[0:42]foreign me foreign foreign there's no question that the year 2020 has

[2:27]been a difficult year a year of tests a year of trials

[2:34]where we were quarantined in our homes and we are still dealing

[2:42]with this coveted 19 which has impacted our lives it shut down

[2:51]the mosques it shut down masjid al-haram the prophet's mosque the shrines

[2:58]of the albeit and even cancelled the hajj everyone was impacted in

[3:08]one way or another by a small virus a virus that is

[3:15]not seen by the naked eye some people ask what is the

[3:24]philosophy of these tests why does allah subhanahu wa ta'ala test us

[3:28]in such a way why does god create evil why is there

[3:33]evil in the world is it god that is allowing this to

[3:38]happen is it god that's causing this if it's not god that's

[3:44]causing it then why is god allowing it if allah subhanahu wa

[3:48]ta'ala is the all-powerful why doesn't allah subhanahu ta'ala stop the evil

[3:54]in the world this is an issue that often arises when people

[4:00]go through struggles people begin to question why does allah subhanahu wa

[4:07]ta'ala allow bad things to happen to good people this is a

[4:11]question that muslims deal with jews deal with christians deal with people

[4:16]from all faiths they try to answer this question to find a

[4:22]solution because god as we know is the merciful lord so then

[4:27]why is there suffering in the world why is there evil in

[4:32]the world this is a question that we must answer this is

[4:35]an issue that must be examined because we must be able to

[4:39]defend our faith and we must be able to defend our values

[4:43]and what we stand for if i believe in a merciful lord

[4:49]then i should be able to answer this question then i should

[4:52]be able to have an answer for those who raise misconceptions against

[4:56]religion and against faith this problem of evil this is one of

[5:02]the arguments that those who do not believe in god use against

[5:05]those who believe in god the problem of evil debate why is

[5:12]it that god creates evil if god did not create the evil

[5:16]why doesn't god stop the evil that's going on in the world

[5:19]so what is the answer to this question my dear brothers and

[5:22]sisters the first point is that we have to acknowledge and understand

[5:32]that evil is not a creation of god evil is the absence

[5:37]of good and the mercy of allah encompasses everything so allah subhanahu

[5:55]wa ta'ala did not create the evil evil is the absence of

[6:02]good wherever the mercy of allah has rejected wherever the mercy of

[6:06]allah and the plan of god is stopped then you will find

[6:10]that there will be problems that will arise there will be problems

[6:14]that will occur but allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is the all-merciful allah

[6:20]subhanahu wa ta'ala is the all-compassionate allah does not create evil in

[6:29]fact we believe that the purpose of creation one of the major

[6:37]purposes of creation is for the sake of mercy allah subhanahu wa

[6:42]ta'ala created us to be merciful with us allah says in the

[6:48]quran one of the major reasons for the creation is for the

[6:57]sake of mercy so that people witness and testify the mercy of

[7:02]allah subhanahu wa if god is the all-merciful people need to feel

[7:07]that mercy people need to see that mercy people need to experience

[7:11]that mercy so how will people experience that mercy through the creation

[7:14]once allah creates people so that they feel and experience the mercy

[7:20]of god allah subhanahu ta'ala is the all-merciful and allah does not

[7:28]create evil but because of the mercy of allah allah subhanahu ta'ala

[7:32]has created a system allah is the omnipotent allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

[7:38]is the all-knowing the all-powerful and due to his mercy allah created

[7:45]a system and everything you see from the minutes from the small

[7:51]dna from the small virus that cannot be seen by the naked

[7:58]eye there's a system to that there's an order to the grand

[8:02]cosmos system and universe and the solar system there is an order

[8:07]and this my dear brothers and sisters this is one of the

[8:09]major proofs for allah if someone tells you i need proof that

[8:15]god exists i need proof that god created me you tell him

[8:20]look at yourself look at the smallest organism look at the smallest

[8:25]dna in your body you see that there's order there's precision there's

[8:31]calculation from the smallest creation to the largest of creation there's an

[8:35]order and this is what is referred to as the teleological argument

[8:41]to prove that god is the creator we see that there's a

[8:45]system there's order today you came here you saw that the chairs

[8:49]are all stacked the chairs are all set up in order you

[8:52]know that someone came before you and set up these chairs why

[8:58]is it when we see the universe and the sun and the

[9:00]moon and the solar system and the creation as small it is

[9:04]or as big as it gets there's an order in it why

[9:09]is it that people say that this happened by chance allah is

[9:12]the creator and allah when he creates allah creates a system in

[9:20]everything now when that system is broken when there's a gap in

[9:25]the system then you will find problems will occur if a car

[9:29]has a system and someone comes and breaks that system someone comes

[9:33]and cuts the wires in a car what will happen to the

[9:38]car the car will collapse the car will not work anymore similarly

[9:42]when we play with the system that allah has in place for

[9:49]us then there will be crisis there will be problems there will

[9:54]be evil today most of the evil most of the wrong that

[9:58]we see in the world it's not caused by allah subhanahu wa

[10:01]ta'ala it's caused by people playing with the order of god allah

[10:09]has created things in one particular way but people they come and

[10:12]they change around in the system they play with the system of

[10:16]god and then if something bad happens they come and they say

[10:19]why did god allow this to happen allah has lost there are

[10:23]laws of nature there's the law of gravity if i go on

[10:27]a building and i jump from the building i'm going to break

[10:29]my leg i'm going to kill myself if i broke my leg

[10:33]do i have the right to say why did god allow me

[10:37]to break my leg no because there's an order there's a system

[10:41]there's a law in nature and if i go against that of

[10:46]course i'm going to hurt myself similarly with the virus with the

[10:50]pandemic with every problem that we see going on in the world

[10:55]the majority of the problems are caused by people allah says that

[11:02]people they bring the punishment and the evil upon themselves allah talks

[11:07]about the villages and the nations and groups of people who were

[11:12]punished prior to islam allah talks about the villages the people of

[11:17]saleh and hud and thamud what happened to these people they were

[11:21]punished but why were they punished allah the punishment came upon them

[11:34]based on their own actions the punishment was a consequence of their

[11:40]own actions today when the experts tell you to wear a mask

[11:43]when the experts are telling you to practice social distancing when the

[11:47]experts are telling you to be very careful if someone is not

[11:52]careful they're going to hurt themselves and they could hurt other people

[11:58]and then we can't come and say why did god allow this

[12:00]to happen there's a system even the small virus it spreads in

[12:04]its own way and the experts are saying you have to be

[12:08]very careful so so a lot of the trials a lot of

[12:13]the tests they're as a result of our own actions we are

[12:18]causing a lot of the evil that's going on in the world

[12:20]and there's a hadith it says that a lot of the people

[12:24]many people they die not because of the natural way allah subhanahu

[12:29]wa ta'ala has caused for them but because of a way that

[12:35]they expedite death upon themselves a lot of us we expedite death

[12:38]we live in an unhealthy way we do things we drink we

[12:42]smoke we do things that are un healthy for us and then

[12:47]it ends up harming us and it ends up killing us so

[12:51]this is the first answer my dear brothers and sisters a lot

[12:55]of the evil a lot of the wrong that we perceive to

[12:57]be wrong is not caused by god but rather it's caused by

[13:04]us and our own actions second we need to understand that allah

[13:10]subhanahu wa ta'ala created us for a purpose we mentioned the first

[13:15]purpose was to be merciful with us there is a second purpose

[13:19]that is mentioned in the quran and that is that every single

[13:26]person must be tested how is allah subhanahu ta'ala supposed to distinguish

[13:30]between the good and the bad between the one that goes to

[13:34]heaven and between the one that goes to the hellfire how is

[13:38]allah supposed to reward and punish people allah rewards and punishes people

[13:44]based on their own actions based on the results of the tests

[13:49]that they take in this life so allah subhanahu wa ta'ala created

[13:54]us in this life so that he tests us allah says in

[14:00]the quran god created death and life to test you to see

[14:17]who of you is the best of action who has the best

[14:20]of action the best of deeds allah tests us this is out

[14:25]of the justice of god it would not be fair for allah

[14:31]allah tests every single person every single individual is being tested and

[14:38]we're all tested in a different way every single person is tested

[14:42]in a different way allah says [Applause] losing the fruits and your

[15:21]crops and then allah says give glad tidings to those who are

[15:27]patient to those who acknowledge that they're living a test every single

[15:34]day in our lives every day you wake up you're being tested

[15:40]by allah is testing you in one way or another don't ever

[15:43]think that you are not being tested because every single one of

[15:50]us is being tested whether you are comfortable or you're not comfortable

[15:54]you're being tested everyone is being tested no one has an excuse

[16:03]from this test but today some of us we think that as

[16:06]long as we're comfortable as long as i have my money and

[16:11]my children and my house and my job i think i'm not

[16:14]being tested the other people are being tested whoever tests positive with

[16:19]this kovid they're being tested but i'm not being tested whoever does

[16:23]not have wealth they're being tested but i'm comfortable i'm not being

[16:26]tested we think that only those who we assume we think they're

[16:32]being tested we think of them as being tested allah is testing

[16:37]them but we're comfortable as long as we're happy allah talks about

[16:44]this in the quran allah says [Applause] are in two categories some

[17:04]people they think that as long as they're comfortable as long as

[17:09]they're happy as long as their life is going smooth they say

[17:12]god honored me god chose me i'm not being tested but then

[17:17]someone who they're going through some difficulty they have some financial difficulties

[17:22]they have some health difficulties they say god is against me god

[17:28]is turning against me and god is humiliating me and god is

[17:33]punishing me the answer allah says in the quran both of you

[17:36]are being tested whether you realize it or not whether you acknowledge

[17:40]it or not everyone is being tested if you have wealth allah

[17:43]is testing you with your wealth if you have health allah is

[17:48]testing you with your health what are you doing with your money

[17:51]in your bank account allah is going to test you with that

[17:54]allah is not only testing the one who does not have money

[17:57]allah is testing the one who has money and in fact the

[18:03]one who has their test is more difficult but a lot of

[18:06]times people don't realize it they think that the test is only

[18:12]for those who don't have one day man comes to the prophets

[18:17]and he tells the prophet i want you to come to my

[18:19]home and eat in my home so rasul he answered he had

[18:28]the habit of answering anyone who invites him rasulullah goes to the

[18:32]man's home and he sees the man he begins to tell rasulallah

[18:38]allah has never tested me i'm comfortable i'm happy i don't have

[18:45]any problems in my life rasool allah right away he got up

[18:49]and he left so the muslims they asked rasulullah why did you

[18:54]leave is falling upon a person but they don't realize it and

[19:06]i don't want to be around a person like that everyone is

[19:10]being tested we have to acknowledge that every day whatever circumstance you're

[19:18]in you're being tested if you have your health allah is testing

[19:20]you are you thankful for that health if you have wealth allah

[19:26]is testing you are you showing gratitude you have to show your

[19:33]thanks by giving by supporting by helping this is the test and

[19:36]the ones who don't have they're being tested the one who has

[19:42]the attitude that every day whatever happens in life we're being tested

[19:47]these are the ones who are the greatest of the worshipers these

[19:51]are the ones who are the greatest abbad of allah and allah

[19:57]says in the quran allah says in the quran the only reason

[20:06]the jinn and the humans were created was that they worship allah

[20:12]subhanahu wa ta'ala you worship when you understand that every day and

[20:16]everything you go through in life that's a test so the quran

[20:20]sums it up there are three purposes of creation and they all

[20:25]go hand in hand and they all go together the first is

[20:27]for the sake of mercy the second is as a test for

[20:32]everyone and the third is ibadah if you worship god you're being

[20:40]tested and you will reach and achieve the mercy of allah subhanahu

[20:43]ta'ala the greater mercy of allah azzawajal now my dear brothers and

[20:48]sisters we mentioned the first point that god does not create the

[20:54]evil it's mainly created by people second life is a test but

[20:59]someone might come and say i did not do anything wrong why

[21:04]is allah subhanahu ta'ala testing me why is allah putting me in

[21:09]a difficulty i did not do anything wrong i'm a believer i'm

[21:13]a mutman i pray i fast i go to hajj i make

[21:17]sure that i fulfill my duties and my obligations the answer my

[21:22]dear brothers and sisters is that the trials they're not always necessarily

[21:29]god punishing someone for some time for some people it's a punishment

[21:34]for other people it's a reminder for other people it's a wake-up

[21:38]call for some people it's an opportunity to cleanse themselves for others

[21:44]it's an opportunity to raise their ranks and seek a closer position

[21:50]to allah subhanahu ta'ala he says he says the tests the tests

[22:10]that people go through in life each test it has a different

[22:14]meaning for a different person for some people it's a way that

[22:22]god is disciplining them is giving a person a wake-up call it's

[22:35]a discipline allah does not punish people in this life because the

[22:40]punishment is in the afterlife however these tests these difficulties that we

[22:45]go through in life they are a chance an opportunity for us

[22:50]to fix our lives because sometimes we live as if we are

[22:56]as if we are invincible as if nothing harms us as if

[23:00]we are our life is going perfect nothing could go wrong i

[23:05]have my money i have my children i have my family and

[23:09]oftentimes when we are too comfortable we begin to stray away from

[23:15]allah subhanahu ta'alah so allah subhanahu ta'ala throws small tests towards us

[23:20]so that they keep bringing us back to allah so we gravitate

[23:28]back to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala it's a way that god is

[23:33]disciplining will this person wake up will this person not wake up

[23:36]it's up to them but lucky are those who take a lesson

[23:41]lucky are those who wake up and pay attention to the trials

[23:50]that allah today if you want to achieve a higher degree wouldn't

[24:04]you want to take a test wouldn't you want to apply to

[24:09]take a test some people they go and they pay hundreds of

[24:13]dollars just so that they can be tested because once they're tested

[24:16]then people will be able to appreciate them more so the menin

[24:21]they go through the tests the menin they yearn for the test

[24:28]so that they have a higher position for the prophets it's a

[24:35]way allah raises their ranks those who are so close to god

[24:44]so attached to god they see the test as an honor a

[24:50]way of allah honoring them this is why imam al-hussein was honored

[24:54]with the shahadah imam al-hussein was honored with the martyrdom where he

[25:00]saw that he was chosen by allah to be able to revive

[25:06]the faith this is why the narrations they say that on the

[25:12]day of as imam hussain was getting closer and closer to his

[25:17]shahada they would see his face was was shining and he was

[25:21]having the vikram of allah in his mind because he saw that

[25:28]this test was an honor from allah subhanahu wa ta'ala imam he

[25:36]says that if allah subhanahu wa ta'ala loves allah if allah wants

[25:44]someone to be successful what will allah do with this person if

[25:50]i love someone how will i treat this person when allah loves

[25:55]someone allah he says allah will allow that person to have a

[26:03]minor stumble in their life so that the person falls and has

[26:08]a minor mistake in their life why so that the person wakes

[26:15]up and repents and does and fixes their life and turns closer

[26:21]to allah sometimes when you have a minor issue a minor stumble

[26:27]in your life this is not because allah is punishing you this

[26:31]is allah giving you an opportunity this is allah showing you the

[26:36]way just like a parent or a teacher sometimes if they have

[26:41]a student that they prefer a student that they love that they

[26:46]respect they will give the students a harder question why because they

[26:50]want to make sure that the student is able to deal with

[26:55]this hard question in the presence of the teacher so that once

[26:58]they go out in public they will be able to achieve anything

[27:06]so allah so that the men turns closer to allah subhanahu wa

[27:12]ta'ala one of the companions another hadith says that the test is

[27:18]a form of purification allah purifies people when you see a man

[27:25]going through difficulty sometimes some people they come to me and they

[27:29]say i had my father my mother my grandfather my grandmother they

[27:34]were men they were believers they used to pray salat but the

[27:39]last few months of their lives they went through a very difficult

[27:45]time you see them they get so skinny they lose all their

[27:49]weight they start suffering when someone looks at them they will think

[27:53]that this person allah is punishing this person but in fact if

[27:58]a person is a man allah subhanahu wa ta'ala according to the

[28:04]hadith allah will place the men in a difficulty so that in

[28:07]the afterlife they will be pure the person goes to paradise pure

[28:13]there's no questioning anymore there's no hisab anymore allah will tell the

[28:17]person you will you were already questioned and you were purified and

[28:22]you were filtered in this dunya therefore we don't need to filter

[28:25]you in one of the companions of imam sadaq he comes to

[28:33]the imam and he tells the imam he begins to complain of

[28:39]his health to the imam he tells him i'm sick i'm suffering

[28:42]i'm exhausted dude he tells him he tells him if allah subhana

[28:51]if the mutman he tells him if the mutman knows the position

[28:56]that they have for every moment of difficulty that they faced in

[29:01]this dunya they will wish that they will they were cut by

[29:11]the scissors in this life they see the reward of the difficulties

[29:15]that they went through in this life they will they will wish

[29:19]on the in the afterlife on the day of judgment they will

[29:25]wish that their test was much more severe a hadith on the

[29:29]day of judgment when they see the reward of one night one

[29:34]sleepless night with a fever someone has a fever they're suffering that

[29:39]person is going through adab they're suffering in this life they might

[29:44]say why does this have to happen to me but the hadith

[29:48]says that in the on the day of judgment when the man

[29:51]the believer we're not talking about the non-believer when the men sees

[29:55]the reward that allah gave them because of that one night of

[30:00]having a fever they will wish that their whole life they had

[30:05]a fever allah allah has the most compassionate allah is the most

[30:10]merciful allah will not allow a person to go through a difficulty

[30:14]in this life without rewarding without compensating this person however what will

[30:23]happen to the sinner what happens to those who are away from

[30:26]allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala the exact opposite in fact the men allah the

[30:35]imam imam he says that the men allah promises and gifts the

[30:44]men with tests when when you want to give a gift to

[30:47]someone what do you come and give you go and you buy

[30:50]some chocolate you go and you buy some roses allah when he

[30:53]loves a mutmen what does allah do to the men allah will

[30:58]give the men more tests why because that test is an opportunity

[31:02]to get closer to allah however the sinner what happens to the

[31:08]sinner the hadith says when a person sins and sins and sins

[31:17]so much that this person is so far away from allah what

[31:22]will allah do allah will give a namma to this person allah

[31:26]will throw the dunya at this person allah will give this person

[31:29]so much wealth allah will give this person power and authority why

[31:35]because this person they have lost their opportunity they have lost the

[31:44]chance to get closer to allah so therefore allah will give them

[31:47]in this dunya because they will not have anything in the akhirah

[31:50]they will not have the akhirah and therefore what they have in

[31:55]this dunya will bring them away from allah it will bring them

[31:59]further and further away from allah subhanahu ta'ala and then the imam

[32:04]recited this verse allah says in the quran the non-believers allah will

[32:14]allow them to continue slipping further away from god because they rejected

[32:19]the mercy they rejected the signs of god they rejected the truth

[32:24]so allah will throw the dunya at them here's the dunya that

[32:27]you wanted you could either use this dunya to get closer to

[32:31]god and back to god or this dunya will take you away

[32:37]and away and further away from god this concept is understood those

[32:43]who murdered imam al-hussein those who killed imam and hussain they came

[32:48]and they changed this concept around they came and they said that

[32:55]as long as as long as we have the power as long

[32:59]as we were able to kill imam al-hussein then that means god

[33:01]chose us then that means god loved loves us and god favored

[33:08]us so what did they do they came and they blamed their

[33:12]crimes and their evil on allah and typically you find those who

[33:16]do not believe this is what they do when they do something

[33:20]when something good happens to them they take the credit for it

[33:24]but when something bad happens and they cause that bad what do

[33:29]they do they come and they say god caused us he was

[33:34]the governor of kufa and they bring the woman and the children

[33:39]the family of imam al-hussein they bring them captive to the court

[33:44]of abedilla say the zainab was in the chains imam zain al-abidin

[33:48]the woman and the children and the head of imam al-hussein is

[33:55]in front of them he looks at zainab and he tells her

[33:59]alhamdulillah all is due to god for he killed you and humiliated

[34:10]you so she tells him only the kafir and the munnathak will

[34:16]be humiliated and it's not us o son of marjana what do

[34:26]you say about what god did to your brother hussain imam hussain

[34:30]has just been killed and he says what do you say about

[34:34]what god did to your brother imam hussain what does she say

[34:40]here here's where we understand who zainab was what kind of a

[34:46]person zainab was zainab was no ordinary lady imam al-hussein he purposefully

[34:52]brought zainab with him because she was the only one who could

[34:55]carry the legacy and the message of imam al-hussein in that weak

[35:01]moment all i saw was beauty i did not see anything other

[35:21]than beauty what's more beautiful than a group of people who are

[35:27]willing to sacrifice their life everything that they have for the sake

[35:32]of what they believe in is there anything more beautiful than that

[35:36]and then she tells him oh son of marjana you are going

[35:41]to be held accountable and you are going to have to stand

[35:46]on the day of judgment this is zainab she tells him you're

[35:57]going to be held responsible for what you have done but you

[36:05]see bani umayya they tried to blame their crimes on allah in

[36:16]the same session he asks what's your name they tell him ali

[36:22]he tells him hussain i am hussein ali the son of hussein

[36:26]so away he says didn't allah kill ali ibn al-hussein referring to

[36:38]ali akbar the brother of imam zain al-abidin who was killed by

[36:53]the people so then away he says god killed your brother ali

[36:59]then imam zayn al-abidin he says he replies with the verse in

[37:04]the quran yes it is god that ultimately takes the life but

[37:11]the one who causes the murder is not allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

[37:17]this was one and then they take the family and the woman

[37:21]all the way to damascus and there zainab she recites the verse

[37:27]in the quran those who have oppressed let them not think let

[37:52]them not assume that allah is favoring them and choosing them in

[37:57]this life it's not good for you this wealth and this power

[38:06]that we have given you in allah is giving them this power

[38:14]and this authority so that they fall further and further away from

[38:19]allah because they rejected the truth now we deal with tests we

[38:27]deal with challenges in our lives every day however there's no test

[38:35]as difficult as what imam al-hussein alaihissalam went through the test of

[38:40]imam al-hussein was the most difficult a person can endure that is

[38:50]the greatest and the clearest the trial that imam al-hussein went through

[38:58]imam al-hussein because of the stance he took he had to be

[39:04]separated from his loved ones he had to be separated from the

[39:10]city of rasulallah in the month of rajab in the year 60

[39:16]after hijrah news came to imam al-hussein that muawiyah who had ruled

[39:23]the muslims for over 40 years muawiyah died and he has appointed

[39:29]his son yazidi to be the khalifa of rasulallah and yazid he

[39:37]sends a letter to madina to his governor in madina al-waleed he

[39:42]tells him take the bay'ah from hussain and if he does not

[39:49]give you the bay'ah then kill him so the governor of madinah

[39:55]he summons imam al-hussein alaihissalam imam al-hussein he gathers his family the

[40:00]men of beni hashem he tells them i'm going into the palace

[40:04]you stand outside the door if you hear me yell if you

[40:09]hear me call for help then you have to come and help

[40:14]me and rescue me so he goes in he goes in and

[40:20]he sees marwan abner and the governor and the governor begins to

[40:25]read the letter announcing that muawiyah has died and now yazid is

[40:31]the khalifa of rasulallah and asking and ordering imam al-hussein to give

[40:36]bay'ah he tells them right now it's night time what are you

[40:47]going to do with my isn't an allegiance supposed to be something

[40:51]that's done in public what is the value of a bay ah

[40:58]that is in private he was trying to buy time then they

[41:00]corner him and they tell him you have to give the bay

[41:06]a now or else you will be killed then imam and hussain

[41:08]he took that difficult stance he took that position and he says

[41:22]a man like me does not give bay'ah to a man like

[41:27]yazid who breaks all the laws of allah who's an alcoholic who

[41:31]is away from allah he stormed out of the he left the

[41:40]palace but now imam al-hussein realizes that there's nowhere for him to

[41:45]go where is he supposed to go he knows that his days

[41:48]and his moments and his hours are numbered even within the city

[41:54]of rasulallah the city that he grew up in the city that

[41:59]he was born in where he used to go and visit the

[42:02]grave of rasulallah every day now imam al-hussein the city will not

[42:13]welcome him anymore he goes to the grave of rasulallah and he

[42:18]begins to speak to rasulullah he begins to say ya rasul allah

[42:23]i am hussain your grandson and you know what has happened to

[42:28]me ya rasulallah and then he begins to speak to rasulullah he

[42:33]begins to say that there's nowhere for me to go this dunya

[43:09]is all closing in on me where should i go ya rasulullah
