[0:00][Music] in the name of the almighty God the compassionate the merciful
[0:18]welcome dear viewers to another special episode of the new podcast another
[0:24]exciting episode with an exciting guest the one and only a talented
[0:29]Pro ECT in the reciting World especially in the west east London
[0:40]some say London's finest the one and only M Rashid welcome thank
[0:46]you very much for such a kind introduction um just for the
[0:50]viewers he spent about five minutes practicing this but um yeah no
[0:55]it's the honor to be here thank you so much I'm feeling
[0:57]very honored to join you guys in the Netherlands um and and
[1:01]yeah it's been a great trip so far alhamdulillah alhamdulillah what did
[1:04]you notice what's the biggest difference between UK and the Netherlands um
[1:09]obviously your language is is not the greatest U but it gets
[1:12]by it gets by it's not too bad um and I think
[1:16]you guys have an incredible Community an incredible incredible Community not to
[1:21]say that London you don't have a a lovely Community but um
[1:23]yeah you guys have a great Community you're doing great work out
[1:28]here um and it's fantastic it's fantastic alhamdulillah good to get the
[1:33]feedback from the one and only mullah alhamdulillah International reciter so he's
[1:36]been to some places so he knows his things alhamdulillah good to
[1:41]hear from uh your feedback on our community and we hope to
[1:44]prosper as you have prospered Through The Years with your exciting career
[1:48]but let's go back in time M because you have a beautiful
[1:54]background you are from Kenyan Tanzanian descent yeah some always think you're
[1:58]a sheia rever but you're not no I'm not you're both with
[2:01]the in the heart from the beginning and of course we cannot
[2:08]go beyond the fact that you're the son of a one of
[2:14]the best shaks I know shh a Rashid and we go back
[2:19]in time to your childhood and upbringing yeah because you're not a
[2:23]regular kid of course you have a sheh as a father so
[2:27]there are some differences with with the the regular kids so how
[2:31]was your childhood like M um to be honest with you I
[2:36]mean I did have pretty normal upbringing for a long a long
[2:38]time to be honest um I want to say pretty normal I
[2:42]mean by like um you know going to school as usual having
[2:44]friends going out with my friends playing football um I love football
[2:49]and I used to play football like nearly every day um I
[2:51]used to live on a road where it was a dead end
[2:54]and we used to always with a few boys in the road
[2:59]just play football uh broke a few windows but that's we sorted
[3:01]it out um but no alhamdulillah it's um I grew up just
[3:07]normal really um and obviously having she as a as a father
[3:10]it's it's a it's a big responsibility of course um because a
[3:15]lot of people obviously look at you a bit differently um you
[3:20]have to sometimes maintain a certain image um and of course it's
[3:25]it's it's important that obviously I I reflect um the way the
[3:32]she is yes so of course um growing up I had a
[3:33]normal childhood I was I was a bit of a naughty boy
[3:36]but um still pretty much all the same to be honest alhamdulillah
[3:39]alhamdulillah and from what age did you feel the pressure or the
[3:45]responsibility from what age did your parents say or your mother would
[3:48]say listen you are the son sh of sh a so when
[3:52]you go to that Gathering when you go to that visitation you
[3:54]have to behave and correct correctly don't act like the other kids
[4:00]yeah to be fair I got that P talk at pretty young
[4:02]age okay um but obviously it was more of like a reminder
[4:05]I think it was always in my mind that you know okay
[4:07]going to places so you was always aware that your father is
[4:11]the sh exactly yeah I was always aware and of course when
[4:15]I go to different events I see for example um for example
[4:17]my dad going to do a lecture um so then obviously I
[4:20]would be sitting there I'd be watching him do his thing and
[4:22]I'm like you know that that's my dad at the end of
[4:25]the day but um yeah it was always instilled with me from
[4:30]a a very young age that um you know my father's a
[4:32]she and I have certain responsibilities um and I think probably probably
[4:36]hit um more in like secondary school I think probably like let's
[4:44]say 9 10 maybe um so that for me would be like
[4:46]15 16 yeah um so around that age is kind of where
[4:50]it more hit more settled that um you know this is this
[4:56]is something that I've got a big responsibility here um so I've
[4:58]got to not change my ways but I have to be a
[5:01]certain way controlled yeah exactly and yeah that's obviously for the outside
[5:06]world and how is inside the house to be with a sheh
[5:10]as a father um it's it's I don't way you're going with
[5:12]this one um no alhamdulillah it was good like you know for
[5:17]example something like madrasa so my dad he run a madrasa Monday
[5:20]Tuesday Wednesday and then Saturday Sunday um but that was just on
[5:24]the outside I always had an internal madressa every day every day
[5:28]I'd sit down and he'd always be see always say to me
[5:31]for example rashed come let's read Quran let me teach you about
[5:35]something um look at this Hadith it could be anything 5 10
[5:38]minutes but I was always in that um environment of learning about
[5:43]Islam and gaining knowledge exactly so it was nice um to be
[5:47]in that experience and and in that environment um and regarding obviously
[5:51]like there's a lot of funny things that would happen at home
[5:56]for example fer um we we wouldn't miss fer at all um
[6:02]my dad one of his uh key uh key uh methods that
[6:03]he used to use for example is sometimes you might open the
[6:07]door um during F time after doing aan already in the corridor
[6:10]cuz that was his he loved to do that um he'd open
[6:13]the door um and he'd get like some water and just kind
[6:17]of just sprinkle it on me just just sprinkle it slowly you
[6:19]can wake up slowly it's fine um but yeah so that that
[6:24]was those are a few things but I've heard many crazy stories
[6:26]from other people so um yeah but that was like something small
[6:29]alhamdulillah beautiful beautiful so say was just sprinkling water on you yeah
[6:33]yeah just sprinkling all the love watering the seeds beautiful and um
[6:41]yeah when you say I had a madasa in house uh you
[6:43]would Tau a lot of course you will you gain knowledge but
[6:47]you were also pushed towards the direction of also becoming a shikh
[6:51]or like a speaker or lecturer or doing something Forma from a
[6:55]young age as well yeah so I always I always say for
[6:59]example whenever I I I do like a podcast or whatever I
[7:03]always have to thank my mom as well my mom was a
[7:04]massive inspiration and and she um in a lot of places was
[7:11]always a big influence as well cuz she loved the the she
[7:16]loved that service She always told us that you know whatever you
[7:18]like for example if we'd go to a place for example she'd
[7:20]always sometimes tell us go a bit early help out do something
[7:24]um but give back you know so um yeah from a young
[7:28]age we were always taught that you know you you serve um
[7:32]you give kma and whatnot but from a young age I think
[7:40]um maybe around 9 10 um through the madrasa cuz we used
[7:42]to do yearly uh mids so it's it's a thing in my
[7:46]culture that we do basically whenas Allah's birth comes you do like
[7:49]a big mid there's like drums there's nid there's good food um
[7:56]poems whatever it might be um so we have that every year
[7:58]and one year one of my teachers his name isak um and
[8:02]I've been with him literally since I was young he basically kind
[8:06]of spotted that I had like a bit of a talent to
[8:08]recite um and I think when he spoted that that's when he
[8:14]then told my mom and my dad um and then kind of
[8:17]it just it just kind of blossomed into what it is now
[8:19]to be honest beautiful beautiful so yeah remember like for example with
[8:22]that event um we learned a Nashid together and then I actually
[8:27]then led a bunch of kids as well in the Nashid yeah
[8:29]uh um and then yeah the rest is history alhamdulillah where we
[8:33]are now alhamdulillah and another aspect which I find always interesting and
[8:37]I salute your father for that and I compliment him because I
[8:40]remember the first time I invited sh and when we were in
[8:42]contact he said is it okay for me to bring my son
[8:45]with me I said yes of course I said yes because that's
[8:49]a regular thing I do when I'm invited somewhere I bring my
[8:52]son with me and I ask if he can recite as well
[8:56]so I know you from the age of 14 13 and I
[8:59]even had the honor to wake you up for once but I
[9:01]didn't use the sprinkling one Techni I just he just came and
[9:05]just started saying right and then he just gave up but yeah
[9:08]no no he he loved them to always always try and promote
[9:11]me and and whenever we'd go anywhere he'd always just asked can
[9:14]you read Quran for example for 5 minutes something like that something
[9:19]small or um but alhamd that really helped cuz not only did
[9:22]I get to for example to network with people and get to
[9:26]know different people um it built a lot of confidence in me
[9:28]cuz there that you see now is not the rash I was
[9:33]10 years ago definitely I was a very shy very timid young
[9:35]guy but and he loved to drink juice a lot oh shout
[9:42]out to say Al yeah so beautiful so and you said from
[9:47]then on it blossomed yeah but bring us give us more insight
[9:52]into the process yeah of how did it Blossom you start from
[9:54]the age of 91 uh you came to notice that you have
[9:59]a good voice your parents knew through to through your aad and
[10:04]so from then on the journey started your father influenced you and
[10:08]uh persuade to help you in that path by bringing you with
[10:11]him to the majales to recite and from then on how did
[10:15]it did you have a teacher who taught you how to use
[10:19]your voice better and uh yeah tell us more about that yeah
[10:23]so um um that's basically how it started and then aak who
[10:27]then kind of became my teacher um so like every week for
[10:31]example maybe twice or three times a week we'd have a little
[10:33]session outside of madrasa um and that would be purely just Quran
[10:37]so I my journey started with Quran for those that don't know
[10:41]started with Quran um and I'd have lessons with him and he
[10:43]would just teach me and and and and take me to certain
[10:48]events here and there and then with my dad as all same
[10:52]thing it just continued then slowly got into like nids um and
[10:55]then muharam came a few years later and I remember um in
[11:01]my local Community Center um they want the shift of English started
[11:04]to be a lot more present so they wanted for example someone
[11:07]to read the English NOA yeah so then they're like rashed could
[11:12]you do that so then that's then how I started them reading
[11:14]lmas um but yeah just basically over time I just I was
[11:18]continuing to practice with him and going to different places um and
[11:22]then just basically just getting to know different people and then slowly
[11:26]slowly the invite started here and there but it still wasn't what
[11:29]it is now it was still like I was known as kind
[11:33]of I would say like your local reciter you know you know
[11:37]your local reciter in a Masid where you can rely on um
[11:38]to give and did it feel as a obligation to do did
[11:42]you feel the pressure to do it because your environment wanted you
[11:45]to do it or did you enjoy no I enjoyed it a
[11:48]lot yeah yeah I enjoyed it a lot to me it was
[11:49]like Al cuz I enjoyed reciting um so it was a thing
[11:53]where it's like alhamdulillah I got a new opportunity new environment why
[11:57]not let's go um cuz I was always looking ahead I was
[12:01]like you know let's let's let's just see where the journey takes
[12:04]me um but you saw it as a hobby right exactly yeah
[12:06]yeah so that's kind of how I saw it but I never
[12:10]thought like oh I'm going to I I'm going to reach a
[12:14]point where I'm going to for example start making tracks and start
[12:16]traveling and this and that I was just still that young boy
[12:19]that was thinking that you know I'm just enjoying reciting I want
[12:22]to be a football player but I broke my ankles pulled my
[12:24]hamstring and it was it was all gone but um yes I
[12:28]was just I was just enjoying what it was but then I
[12:32]think it really really started during co co obviously everyone went online
[12:35]um and everyone was trying to do something different yes um online
[12:39]M exactly yeah and that's kind of when I started for example
[12:44]my Instagram uh in Co I started in my Instagram in Co
[12:46]um and then just started get invited to different uh live shows
[12:50]for example here and there um and then alhamdulillah as soon as
[12:53]we left Co that's then when I for example started getting invited
[12:56]properly to different places my face started becoming onst and I started
[13:02]traveling to different country alhamdulillah beautiful beautiful M we will go back
[13:07]to the reciting B but first another important aspect I find especially
[13:11]in the west uh in the Western Hemisphere the Western countries um
[13:15]the sh identity yeah from uh Our Generations it's we are in
[13:21]the minority we always will be and we always were and um
[13:24]were you taught from a young age that you a Shia Muslim
[13:29]or was Muslim and then over the years when you became older
[13:32]you came to notice there is differences in praying how you pray
[13:37]how your friends at school pray or your neighborhood uh that it
[13:40]came to light that you are a Shia Muslim and different from
[13:43]the majority of Muslims yeah so um for me I obviously growing
[13:49]up in the environment I did I was always in that that
[13:51]environment of that you know you're a Shia this is your identity
[13:56]this is how we pray um this is why we do certain
[13:58]things um but on the flip side I went to a school
[14:02]that predominantly had a lot of sunnis lot of wahhabis and for
[14:06]example I I always wanted to go to Sal J on a
[14:07]Friday for example so that's where my problem started because as soon
[14:13]as I'd go I'd pray with my hands down people are then
[14:15]looking at me um then after for example it finishes why you
[14:20]doing this why you doing that starting debating exactly and this is
[14:23]from like very young this is like for example like year eight
[14:24]year nine maybe this has started um so then it became a
[14:30]thing where then I had to then go out uh and then
[14:33]ask my dad I started ask my dad questions so I'm like
[14:34]to my dad yeah for example today this guy came and said
[14:38]this to me said for example like you know the standard for
[14:40]example oh Ali is your last prophet for example stuff like that
[14:45]for example don't believe in the Quran exactly yeah yeah so me
[14:47]I'm just like I'm going back to my dad I'm like this
[14:49]is what he said and then he would sit me down and
[14:52]then he'd tell me no no um there's a lot of misconceptions
[14:53]for example um and then he would educate me basically so from
[14:59]a young age while I grew up in that environment I still
[15:02]had to obviously find um a lot of the truth if you
[15:08]were to call it um and learn for myself because yeah for
[15:10]example like I know now a lot of people they think for
[15:15]example listening to the lecture is enough yeah it's really not not
[15:17]it's really not you need to actually physically go out and study
[15:19]and learn um and that's what's going to help you so that's
[15:24]kind of what I then started to do um alhamdulillah it helped
[15:26]me alhamdulillah it's much easier with a sh in the house I'm
[15:30]not going to lie it's true you have your own Google search
[15:35]in house search box in house alhamdulillah and at what age came
[15:39]like the confidence and the pride that you have that you have
[15:44]Shia Islam that you are a Shia Muslim at what age did
[15:46]you embrace the Shia identity yeah I think probably GCS is so
[15:52]like yeah around that 16 17 Mark where like I I um
[15:54]I was praying with a Tor praying with my hands down and
[15:58]obviously in a school where everyone pray different to you this is
[16:01]very important exactly cuz I have a lot of friends for example
[16:06]who were sh who were finding it like a bit hard and
[16:08]they were like scared to exactly it's a scary thing like let's
[16:13]be honest you're young and a bunch of every a bunch of
[16:15]people are doing things differently to you it's a bit scary um
[16:17]but yeah probably around 16 17 is where I was like yeah
[16:21]you know I don't care anymore I'm not really going to like
[16:23]hide anything not that I did but it was like I was
[16:29]scared to have that conversation but I think probably yeah around 16
[16:33]17 um that's when I just went full force and I was
[16:37]just like yeah you know what I don't care yeah let's go
[16:40]for it guys amazing amazing I think that's also something that adds
[16:44]to the problem and the stigma and the like the view of
[16:46]other Muslims to Shia Muslims because when they go to the prayer
[16:51]halls in the hospitals or in the universities or at work they
[16:54]don't see any Muslims with tbas pray praying you know they only
[17:00]see their own kind praying yeah and that's when they say Shia
[17:03]Muslims are not praying because we never see them M that adds
[17:05]to the problem but I understand to be scared and to be
[17:09]afraid of you know coming and uh people asking different difficult questions
[17:13]because they lack knowledge yeah that's one of the issues so gain
[17:17]knowledge brothers and sisters and how important let's stick to knowledge how
[17:22]important is having and gaining knowledge as a reciter yeah as a
[17:26]reciter as a Islamic reciter and um I mean one one one
[17:32]thing for example is your we have a lot of poets in
[17:37]this in this in this world and Poets are I can feel
[17:40]like is watching me um we have a lot of poets and
[17:46]it's sad to say but some of them aren't as well versed
[17:48]with certain topics or might not know things as much so you
[17:53]might for example have the odd time where something will be written
[17:57]down in a poem yeah and I'm looking at and I'm like
[18:01]I'm pretty sure this is not correct I'm pretty sure this is
[18:03]not correct um and the worst thing obviously you can do is
[18:05]then read that in a and then 100 people are attacking you
[18:10]after what happened um so from that perspective obviously it's important for
[18:13]you to know what you're talking about what you're reciting about why
[18:17]you're reciting things because as a reciter it's very important for you
[18:23]to like for example we're coming up to the month of muharam
[18:25]yes um and we have many different personalities which are going to
[18:28]be spoken about over for the 10 days um and you need
[18:32]to as a reciter even as a speaker to be honest anyone
[18:37]to be honest you need to really um understand what is being
[18:44]said and understand what is being spoken about yeah because do you
[18:48]want it to be for example a thing where oh I'm just
[18:51]going to go to a program for 10 nights and not know
[18:52]what's happening or is it I want to gain something yes you
[18:56]know so that's why for example even now with with for example
[18:58]say n who someone who writes a lot for me shout out
[19:03]to him we try and obviously when it comes to poetry write
[19:07]about different things not the average for example Imam Hussein came this
[19:11]happened his family you know in depth exactly more in depth and
[19:15]things that can teach people yeah so even within the reciting you
[19:20]want to give people some knowledge as well of course yeah yeah
[19:24]that's also a goal this beautiful so how is the life of
[19:29]a mull where 10 years from where you started mashallah you're 22
[19:32]but but you're already quite experienced for for for a young reciter
[19:37]mashallah and she have always helped you in gaining some attention and
[19:42]following mallah amazing performances there as well so how is the life
[19:46]of a mullah a reciter is it the pop star life glitter
[19:50]and glamour give us me more insight really isn't um yeah it's
[19:55]it's no I would to say it's it's obviously the glitz and
[19:58]the glamor cuz um obviously we are for example again like I'm
[20:06]going to use mam as an example it's 10 nights of magalis
[20:09]you have to prepare in advance you have to understand your crowd
[20:13]of where you're going your Melodies you have to understand your Melodies
[20:17]make sure everything is right then when you go to then perform
[20:20]and recite make sure that you're on a good form as well
[20:25]um it's constant um you're constantly being watched if you think about
[20:29]it constantly being watched um and it's very hard because as soon
[20:33]as you slip up people will say something very easy um so
[20:38]it's you have to just obviously constantly just be watching over your
[20:42]own actions constantly trying to innovate and do different things um and
[20:45]not do the same thing over and over again um but yeah
[20:48]people are are very very good critiques they will always say things
[20:53]um but you just have to remember why you're doing things for
[20:55]me for a long time like for example when I was younger
[20:58]when I was starting out I think this is the key difference
[20:59]for me is that while I was enjoying it I was just
[21:04]enjoying reciting and I was like yeah I'm just a reciter and
[21:06]I'm reading but now um I'm looking at why I'm reciting who
[21:12]I'm reciting for what my intention is and all of these things
[21:14]are important because there's been times where sometimes if your intention is
[21:19]is a bit shaky it will show there's times where for example
[21:24]if you have the right intention it will show so that's how
[21:27]how did you notice the show sorry to interrupt you is it
[21:31]in the performance like is it a bad performance when your intention
[21:33]lacked a little bit and is it a good performance when you
[21:36]had the Kal intention from the beginning or other aspects of reciting
[21:41]and preparing yeah that can be that can be one thing um
[21:44]and and for example with preparation for example sometimes if you're thinking
[21:47]yeah I want to be the best and this and that you're
[21:50]going to have a hard time preparing whereas sometimes I've spoken to
[21:55]people where um you get like a block so for example no
[21:57]Melodies are coming to your mind you don't know what kind of
[22:02]poetry you want but with pure intentions IM Hussein carries you he
[22:07]carries you and he shows you the way um so it's like
[22:12]if you have a clean intention and of course inshah everyone does
[22:18]um that will be that will show beautiful beautiful so we talked
[22:23]about uh Shia voice yeah what do you say did the Shia
[22:29]voice do for you um she always um did a lot of
[22:35]promo work for me to be honest with you um and uh
[22:36]yeah alhamdulillah so like for example the first season I was a
[22:39]reciter and just off that um I got to the final obviously
[22:45]I didn't make it through but just off that um I started
[22:47]getting invited to many different places that's actually how I got invited
[22:54]to Canada for mam because um I had finished the first season
[22:57]it had just aired Ramadan had finished um and I received a
[22:59]DM from uh one of the brothers in Canada and uh his
[23:04]name is m Mahi he just basically just messed me and now
[23:07]we're still good friends till this day alhamdulillah but he messaged me
[23:09]and he just said look we've seen you on the sh voice
[23:11]we don't have a mull this year um and we're struggling to
[23:16]find one so would you be able to come down to muharam
[23:19]um and and give us 10 nights um and that was literally
[23:25]straight after the first season wow so I alhamd accepted and we
[23:29]went and was a great magist um but yeah like that was
[23:33]just for example a first thing then I had more programs here
[23:36]then second season for example I became a host and then I
[23:39]then started getting more programs hosting hosting uh events um for example
[23:46]like live shows and stuff like that so yeah different alhamdulillah many
[23:50]different opportunities came and it really pushed me um into the community
[23:55]and and many different communities alhamdulillah and as you said on the
[23:58]voice second season you smashed it you always smashing everyone smashed it
[24:02]hosting reciting masallah and um yeah it did a lot for you
[24:11]in terms of gaining more attention gaining more following and reciting has
[24:16]also his you know his scary is a scary thing sometimes you
[24:20]know standing in front of audience how do you deal with the
[24:25]pressure and the stress before a performance yeah as a experienced Reser
[24:28]yeah yeah um till this day to be honest I mean I
[24:33]think now probably I deal with it better so it might be
[24:35]for example rather than being scared I might have nerves that I
[24:40]want to do a good job yeah so it's like sometimes you
[24:41]have pressure within yourself like um you might be stressing out for
[24:45]example but um beforehand I always try to ensure that I know
[24:48]whatever I'm reciting very well um there's been times where sometimes I
[24:53]might not be a bit sure on something like if I'm reading
[24:56]for example a different language um if I'm reading a different Lang
[24:59]Ang be Arabic be U if I'm not sure um I'll stay
[25:03]away from it just purely because I don't want to then mess
[25:05]up in the recitation so always knowing what you're reciting to the
[25:12]best of your ability that's important at the same time of course
[25:16]reciting I like to recite a lot of salawat before I go
[25:20]out into a um and there's many different things as well that
[25:23]many people many different people do some people like to for example
[25:26]relax and not speak to anyone yeah that's one um but yeah
[25:31]those are kind of two of the main things that I do
[25:32]but I think the main thing before anything is to make sure
[25:36]that you've practiced to make sure that you practice and it sounds
[25:39]really cliche but practice does make perfect um and yeah once you've
[25:42]practiced and you know exactly what you're doing then yeah the rest
[25:48]is beautiful beautiful the rest is easy and you're young yourself but
[25:51]you have a lot of experience by now and there are a
[25:56]lot of upcoming young talents young reiters young people who would like
[26:00]to recite and have the potential to recite do you have any
[26:03]tips besides the good tip you gave just yet yeah um to
[26:07]be honest I mean I'm still learning myself but if there's anything
[26:10]that I can say that helped me um for those people that
[26:16]want to obviously recite and uh and become a reciter the first
[26:19]thing you need to obviously do I think is very important to
[26:22]have a teacher have someone that will guide you um step by
[26:28]step because a lot of the time like for example with me
[26:30]with um L for a long time I was kind of just
[26:35]watching different communities or different reciters what works for them what works
[26:40]for different communities and then just working it out like that and
[26:42]it worked for a long time but it comes to a point
[26:46]where you then need to have someone to teach you for example
[26:48]different Melodies um for example something um in if you're going too
[26:56]fast or too slow a lot of people might not know that
[26:58]um some people like for example I remember having a conversation with
[27:01]one guy um and there's a famous lmia that we were talking
[27:06]about and when I recited it yeah um he said to me
[27:10]that you were reading it too slowly uh and he was reading
[27:12]it too fast uh so there was that for example that oh
[27:18]um that confusion but really it's it's it's you need to actually
[27:21]understand how it properly works and you're only going to learn that
[27:24]through speaking to someone who's done it for a long time which
[27:28]is a teacher teacher so find yourself a teacher um be with
[27:33]them uh gain lots and lots and lots of advice and then
[27:39]once you've done that um just go get the experience to be
[27:41]honest that's the best thing I can say go get the experience
[27:45]um and I think now it's really good that a lot of
[27:47]communities are giving the youth that experience in certain ways um like
[27:50]I've seen for example in London a lot of the communities there
[27:54]for example even if it's a poem something a few lines it
[27:57]helps a few lines it helps for example Quran a few minutes
[28:02]here and there it helps promoting the youth that's very important because
[28:05]you don't want to exclude them yes because when they have that
[28:09]love and that drive to want to serve and to be part
[28:12]of your magj you will get them even more abent and not
[28:14]being too hard on them as well as they flop is if
[28:17]they flop or have a bad performance giving them another opportunity will
[28:21]boost their confidence exactly but on on on the contrary of that
[28:24]it's it's really important to actually get that feedback though a lot
[28:26]of people might think that um criticism is not a good thing
[28:31]but it is really important to be honest because that's the only
[28:34]way you can learn definitely yeah so for example for those guys
[28:38]that are at home watching if someone tells you for example oh
[28:40]you should you could do better here and there I promise you
[28:41]they don't hate you um they just obviously want you to do
[28:45]a lot better better yeah they care that's why they exactly yeah
[28:48]and I'm wondering how is the feedback of sh is he a
[28:51]hard one is he a tough one um no it's it's I
[28:56]think back in it was more like um constructive criticism constructive yeah
[29:00]so like um it would be a thing where he for example
[29:05]with Quran Quran he was obviously very strict but obviously you have
[29:07]to be stret with Quran so if I haven't stretched something a
[29:10]little bit too long if I stretched something for example for 4
[29:13]seconds when it's supposed to be 6 seconds for example he will
[29:18]mention there you are a little bit but um it's important it's
[29:20]important at the end of the day because you don't want to
[29:24]recite with mistakes so yeah he he he's good he's good and
[29:26]he gives me the feedback that I need beautiful but yeah alhamdulillah
[29:29]feedback is really important shout out to shout out to in always
[29:33]way and about Quran I've noticed in Iran especially and your journey
[29:38]started as well with the Quran a lot of reciters started with
[29:42]being a a Quran reciter and then when they aged when they
[29:47]became older they became became a Nashid reer a noan and the
[29:55]tawashi groups always uh contains Quran reciters yeah do do you would
[29:59]you get say it's the best way for a reciter to start
[30:03]with the Quran because that's the most difficult and if you have
[30:07]control the Quran if you know the Quran and Rec reciting the
[30:10]Quran you can easily move on transition to a for example noan
[30:16]reciter a reciter yeah um Quran and obviously NOA two very different
[30:25]things so I've seen that Trend happen a lot to be honest
[30:27]um until this day to be honest I'll never understand why but
[30:32]because like for example me even though like I recite a lot
[30:34]of noas and Nashid and stuff I still obviously want to continue
[30:37]Quran um and I always have this conversation with my mom my
[30:40]mom's like Oh you don't read Quran enough now for example I'm
[30:42]like Mom like I'm trying and I I would love to but
[30:46]now people all invite me for no for examp that's the problem
[30:48]um but it's a good base to start yeah it's a good
[30:53]base to start because it teaches you for example all theams um
[30:55]it teaches you Melodies uh pronunciation um and then from that then
[31:01]you have to then Branch out and then learn how to recite
[31:07]so for example with me reading in Arabic yeah Quran was a
[31:10]great help because I understood how to join letters how to recite
[31:15]the letters how to pronounce the letters um and then through that
[31:19]it helped me obviously to to uh to get into for example
[31:26]Arabic and Arabic Nashid Arabic noas and lmas and stuff for example
[31:30]um but yeah I'd say it's it's a good place to start
[31:35]it's a good place to start but um at the same time
[31:37]for me I I um I would always uh put Quran on
[31:41]top asent always put Quran on top that's the book of Allah
[31:45]um and I think a lot of people always for like sometimes
[31:47]people do forget the importance of it um because sometimes you might
[31:53]see in a magice for example someone will give AIA half an
[31:57]hour 40 minutes and then Quran they get a little two three
[31:59]minutes slow at the yeah but I think um while it is
[32:05]a good stepping stone um we shouldn't forget its importance beautiful as
[32:10]you have progressed in your career you have visited different countries different
[32:14]communities as you said you went to Canada you have recited two
[32:18]times now in the Netherlands mashallah we had the honor to have
[32:21]you for the second time this e and you've been you have
[32:27]recited when you went to Zara with Zara groups you have recited
[32:29]in the UK obviously different communities what's the main diff what's the
[32:34]main similarity you see in all communities obviously apart from the religion
[32:38]and the sect and what is the main differences you for example
[32:42]witnessed in Canada and in Iraq and then in the Netherlands yeah
[32:48]um I think it's a hard question cuz I don't know if
[32:52]I can say I can compare but it depends on different communities
[32:54]of where you go to um so like for example when I
[32:58]was in Canada it was in Iraqi Center that I went to
[32:59]and obviously they do a bit differently you have a m which
[33:04]is like the intro the which is like your main me then
[33:06]you have the NZ at the end or everyone they they give
[33:10]their all um whereas for example in London I've been to a
[33:14]lot of centers where um it's a very fast beat and you
[33:20]have one uh L for example it'll be like 10 15 minutes
[33:25]and that's done for example Canada I was reading for like 40
[33:27]45 minutes for example night um Iraq obviously Iraq is Iraq everyone
[33:33]is um it's great over there it's great over there but I
[33:38]think it's it's more different with the kind of communities that you
[33:41]go to um the different centers that you go to um but
[33:45]yeah everyone has their own different way of of kind of mning
[33:51]and um and showing their love um for the so I think
[33:54]um yeah there's a lot of differences here and there but everyone
[33:59]I think as a Unison is very very similar ahum and where
[34:04]did you enjoy the most oh that's a good question um you're
[34:11]thinking too long bro I got two places I got two places
[34:17]cuz I don't the thing is um from mam yeah Canada was
[34:19]incredible Canada was incredible it was a great great Community um and
[34:25]they were lovely um and they gave their all um for e
[34:30]of course the Netherlands of course the Netherlands um shout out to
[34:39]Association Olympics when when I when s told me I was like
[34:42]what's Olympics you thought medals I had noar B atics but um
[34:48]I really enjoyed um the jamat in Minneapolis Minnesota in the United
[34:53]States yeah they have they a very interesting Community cuz they their
[35:00]lar Community um but they like they will clap they will do
[35:04]everything and they'll go crazy um and that's not common for exactly
[35:06]it's not common but it was a really really good vibe amazing
[35:12]um so yeah probably I'd say those two so far beautiful beautiful
[35:15]may Allah bless the communities and bless you for serving them and
[35:20]there was one question I had in mind but um yeah how
[35:25]do you cope with the attention you get globally now it's difficult
[35:31]obviously gaining attention and attention and compliments and people like cherishing you
[35:39]and applauding you can go both ways yeah it can give you
[35:42]more motivation to do better and to keep that pure intention or
[35:48]it could go yeah a separate different way um yeah I'd say
[35:51]that like you said literally is that sometimes it's it's really good
[35:57]cuz it motivates you you want to do more or someone for
[35:59]example saying well done you did a good job um that can
[36:02]go a long way because then you're thinking you know what can
[36:05]I then do next how can I further develop whereas um obviously
[36:09]you have the flip side where it can play on your intentions
[36:11]and then you might start thinking oh I'm now better than everyone
[36:14]and I'm this and I'm that um and that's way obviously it
[36:18]can get dangerous but I think my mom's always kept me very
[36:21]grounded and obviously made me understand um that you know you're always
[36:27]whatever you're doing you're doing for the um and I remember someone
[36:34]else said this in a podcast as well but it's very very
[36:36]true is that I whoever I am now I'm I would be
[36:42]nothing if it wasn't for IM Hussein if it wasn't for him
[36:48]I wouldn't be anyone um so it's I always have to remember
[36:50]that he is the reason as to why I'm doing what I'm
[36:54]doing um and the is is the reason to why I'm doing
[36:56]what I'm doing and that's why they've given me what I have
[36:59]now and it can go like this wow it can go very
[37:03]very quickly it can go faster than it can so um it's
[37:05]very very important and you have to obviously honor um this this
[37:10]status if you want to say that you've been given by the
[37:13]beautiful and in terms of reciting what do you what do you
[37:21]which season do you love best what love more which season do
[37:23]you love more when it comes to the reciting um yeah is
[37:27]it the morning season season or is it like for example Z
[37:30]and the E season the season of festivities um I think obviously
[37:36]muharam is special in its own ways of course um I probably
[37:39]would always put muharam probably number one number one but yeah the
[37:46]celebration I think is always an interesting one it's like a gam
[37:49]pack of like one week where every Center in the world has
[37:52]programs and you're going to this place and that place and this
[37:57]place um yeah probably um but yeah but yeah overall I think
[38:05]most of the reciters prefer the morning season mam obviously I think
[38:09]most of the reciters will say it's number one yeah yeah I
[38:12]can't I can't put it before yeah but I find it interesting
[38:16]at the same time we'll move into the muharam topic of course
[38:19]because muharam is approaching as well uh but we look forward to
[38:26]a season which is full of like tears Mourning sorrow Bloodshed we
[38:31]lost the most important figure one of the most important figures in
[38:37]the history of Islam say shab the grandson of but we are
[38:41]yearning for m i I always think by myself it it's so
[38:47]special and at the same time weird in some kind of way
[38:51]we are looking forward to a season full of Sorrow mourning and
[38:53]tears how do you experience when you approach muharam how you experience
[38:57]that what what feelings come yeah um it's it's it's it's the
[39:00]thing is it's always very hard because you go from and then
[39:06]you literally have like a week week yes and then you're now
[39:10]crying crying yeah so you go from celebration to crying straight away
[39:13]so for me like specifically this year for example preparing for muharam
[39:16]um while I've had a lot of events of Celebration and whatnot
[39:20]um I've had to obviously and many reciters and speakers have had
[39:25]to prepare a very long time ago yeah um some Maybe started
[39:28]a year ago some 6 months whatever it might be um you're
[39:30]preparing a long time ago so I think in the back of
[39:33]your head it's always like mam is coming and muharam is important
[39:35]and you have to obviously be ready for it um but it's
[39:42]a weird one because you are for example might be receiving poetry
[39:47]and you're then editing the Poetry but then tomorrow you have a
[39:50]a Milad um so it's it's I think it's about balancing balancing
[39:55]it out and kind of trying to uh trying to to find
[39:57]that that that in between in between and as the holy month
[40:04]of muharam is approaching and we all our heart yearned towards carala
[40:09]towards IM Hussein gaining closeness to IM Hussein delving into the story
[40:14]of carala again and grasping lessons out of it um now as
[40:17]a reciter you approach muharam differently of course than I do because
[40:21]you prepare uh you read you recite poems but what is your
[40:28]goal this muharam and do you have a goal yearly for muharam
[40:31]when muharam approaches do you have this year muharam I want to
[40:36]go gain this or that that's a good question very good question
[40:40]um I think probably how I look at it is just um
[40:48]for the service to be accepted that's kind of how I was
[40:54]look at I try to always um keep my intention clean and
[40:56]just understand that why I'm doing what I'm doing and for that
[41:02]reason I have to always always always um make sure that I'm
[41:04]I'm I have a clean intention um and through doing that obviously
[41:08]um you get a lot of blessings that for example come through
[41:13]to you some days might be very harder than others um but
[41:16]as a whole in terms of as a goal um I'd say
[41:22]just yeah just just just trying to do the best that I
[41:28]can every year uh um and if for example there's something that
[41:30]I haven't done as good try to improve it um I think
[41:34]for me it's always about constantly developing myself um as a reciter
[41:38]so for example if there's things that I haven't done in in
[41:41]the year before or things I might have not done properly um
[41:45]I have to fix them so I think yeah probably looking at
[41:48]looking into how I can further develop myself um and just ensuring
[41:54]that everything goes smoothly as and do you have any specific projects
[41:58]this holy month of muharam coming up tracks maybe um currently working
[42:04]on two yeah working on two mallah about IM Hussein beautiful looking
[42:08]forward to it m Rashid was a pleasure but first before we
[42:12]finish this beautiful podcast which enlightened me and mulah Rashid has a
[42:15]special gift brothers and sisters he always can make you smile even
[42:20]when you cry you lost your dog or your cat he can
[42:21]make you smile I told I said cat because he's a cat
[42:29]lover Chico but but we have the new podcast and the new
[42:33]in the new podcast and new Association stands for and I want
[42:42]to finish this podcast on that note as well we have a
[42:46]Imam Hussein of our time yeah in your opinion in your humble
[42:49]opinion mulah what is IM Zan to you and what should we
[42:58]do to um seek closeness to him to and to hasten his
[43:03]reappearance what is our responsibility yeah um that's a deep question ending
[43:08]on a deep note ending on a deep note um to me
[43:14]I think IMI um it's like salvation uh because obviously we you
[43:22]go through a lot of tests and trials in your life yet
[43:25]you always need to remember that there's um there's someone you know
[43:28]you have a little bit more to go and um inshallah everything
[43:33]will be okay and for me um I think I kind of
[43:35]just look at it as I've been given a task to do
[43:38]I've been given something um from the and I have to kind
[43:44]of Honor that um so for me it's just trying to be
[43:45]better as a person every day trying to work on myself um
[43:50]and just trying to be in the best states for when the
[43:56]Imam returns um and I was uh um I was watching something
[43:58]very recently and the guy he said he said um a lot
[44:02]of us for example on our phones we we might be scared
[44:06]to give our phones to to any person for example be a
[44:08]friend be your mom your dad you know that's always that's a
[44:14]tough one sometimes but um giving your phone to for example if
[44:19]if the mom comes back and he says you know let's let's
[44:24]for example let's see people's phones for example it has to be
[44:28]the cleanest that it can be and that's kind of how I
[44:31]look at in terms of how you should be within your heart
[44:35]how pure you should be as a person um and yeah it's
[44:36]just a constant reminder to just do better do better because when
[44:40]the Imam comes back you want to be part of the 313
[44:41]you don't want to be left behind so every day is a
[44:46]constant reminder you got to work better work harder do better um
[44:49]and yeah inshallah um it will be accepted so yeah I think
[44:56]for everyone just um continue continue doing the best that you can
[45:00]do um and inshallah beautiful that was truly the cherry on the
[45:09]ice cake of this episode and M rash told me cherry on
[45:13]the ice cake is not the right for us British we just
[45:15]say cherry on top cherry on top he's been saying cherry on
[45:18]the ice cake I don't know what the ice cake is I
[45:22]made it up I love ice cakes M it has been a
[45:22]pleasure may Allah subhana T bless you abundantly would love to have
[45:26]you over soon again be our honor inshah dear viewers thank you
