[1:07]entrusted with the religion of god and god's proof on earth bear

[1:37]witness that you made the effort you strived for god to please

[1:45]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and followed the teachings of his book and

[1:59]followed in the footsteps of rasulullah until god invited you to join

[2:14]him today we are commemorating the martyrdom of a giant who is

[2:39]second only to the prophet of islam muhammad his martyrdom marked a

[2:58]new low in the history of the human race because imam ali

[3:07]is the epitome of virtue he is the embodiment of all the

[3:15]human qualities and today my speech will revolve around a very relevant

[3:29]topic that has many applications in our lives it pertains to the

[3:41]divine approach the way god the almighty deals with us humans it

[3:54]pertains to something we deal with on a daily basis a universal

[4:00]law that governs the universe something that we cannot evade the prophet

[4:12]was one day talking to amir al mu'mineen he said to him

[4:21]you ali i pray to god i ask god to grant me

[4:34]1,000 wishes pertaining to you and allah granted me all the wishes

[4:46]he answered my prayers for example the prophet asked god to appoint

[4:54]ali to be his successor god agreed he asked god to make

[5:02]ali his partner in his endeavor in god's divine project god accepted

[5:09]and agreed he asked god to make ali the father of his

[5:14]children god agreed he asked god to make ali his standard bearer

[5:23]god agreed he asked god to make ali his brother god agreed

[5:30]because the prophet is a messenger of god he can't act independently

[5:35]of god he's like moses the prophet said the same thing about

[5:47]imam ali and allah agreed to everything that the prophet asked except

[6:03]for one thing he said i asked god to make the people

[6:12]unite behind the ali after my death to submit to his orders

[6:20]to listen to him to follow him after my demise but allah

[6:27]subhanahu wa ta'ala said no and he revealed this verse did the

[6:44]people think that by just claiming to be devotees and faithful servants

[6:54]of god just to claim that they are committed to god's religion

[7:00]and that they submit their will to allah god will be content

[7:07]with their claims while we tested the people in the past the

[7:26]people in the past were subjected to vigorous tests so that allah

[7:33]knows so that it becomes known to everyone who is the truthful

[7:40]one about his iman about his devotion about his commitment and who's

[7:47]lying brothers and sisters sometimes we don't even know that our faith

[7:57]is superficial it's not real it's not deeply rooted in our soul

[8:06]when does it become apparent that our faith is real or false

[8:14]when we are tested when we go through all these ups and

[8:19]downs in life that's when it becomes apparent the reality becomes apparent

[8:28]the hadith says you'll be tried and tested not once twice three

[8:37]times but perhaps even hundreds of times a person who we all

[8:49]thought was a good person when he is tested maybe he passes

[8:55]the first test he passes the second test overcomes the third challenge

[9:00]but at the end his iman is appended then we realized that

[9:06]his iman was superficial he's not even a moomin while people who

[9:14]we thought their iman is not shaky they're not that religious when

[9:20]they were tested we realized that they have proven to be truthful

[9:29]about their faith in iman the day of ashura was like a

[9:35]litmus litmus test for the people during the time of imam al

[9:39]hussain there was a man called shabbat ibn al abai he was

[9:45]supposed to be one of the companions of imam ali and he

[9:48]was one of the people that sent a letter to imam al

[9:51]hussain inviting him to come to kufa because we need you these

[9:58]umayyads are corrupt we don't want yazid to preside over us we

[10:03]want you you abba abdullah and imam al hussein he comes to

[10:10]kufa based on these letters that were sent to him but this

[10:14]guy ended up in the camp of omar ibn saad he was

[10:19]one of the people that participated in the most heinous crime in

[10:23]history in shedding the blood of imam al hussain while a new

[10:30]convert the newly wed wahab who is a christian he comes joins

[10:39]the camp of imam al hussain and it became apparent that his

[10:43]faith is unshakable and that he is truthful about his devotion his

[10:49]commitment to his iman to his faith and now when we go

[10:54]to karbala when we visit the martyrs in the shrine of imam

[10:59]al hussain what do we say to the likes of wahab we

[11:03]say you're amongst the people that god loves you all know that

[11:19]the shaitan is from the jain population right why is it that

[11:28]he was kicked out of the divine dominion when he refused to

[11:34]prostrate before adam when god's command was intended for the angels you

[11:49]know why even though he wasn't an angel because he was raised

[11:56]with the angels even the angels thought that he was an angel

[12:01]his worship and ibadah surpassed that of the angels he prostrated for

[12:08]god one sajdah that took six thousand years but he had to

[12:17]be tested even the shaitan didn't know that there was something buried

[12:23]deep down in his soul that would sabotage his faith that would

[12:29]negate his iman allah subhanahu wa ta'ala told them to do sujood

[12:36]to adam he said how can i do sujood to something that

[12:41]is inferior to me i'm created from fire he's created from clay

[12:46]and fire is better than clay let's assume that fire is better

[12:50]than clay don't you believe in god the shaitan believed in god

[12:56]the shaitan witnessed things that we didn't witness he witnessed the creation

[13:01]of adam he witnessed the appointment of all the prophets he was

[13:06]there he was with the angels so he knows a great deal

[13:10]about god he knows that god is ordering him to prostrate before

[13:15]adam but he had arrogance in his heart i can't prostrate before

[13:21]adam even if god is commanding me to do so the hadith

[13:27]says that all the people in the inferno they have arrogance in

[13:33]their hearts and sometimes this arrogance is what destroys our faith we

[13:40]know that imam saddiq said that but i desire something else and

[13:49]i follow my desire when i follow my desire on the expense

[13:54]of my religion i am following someone other than god and his

[14:00]authorities that's when the shaytan realized that he's a rebellion that he's

[14:08]not a true believer his iman was superficial his iman was artificial

[14:15]it wasn't real example you all heard of qarun allah criticizes qarun

[14:27]in the quran you know who qarun was do you even know

[14:33]who qarun was qarun was prophet moses cousin that's number one number

[14:43]two he was supposed to get married to musa's sister kaltham who

[14:51]played an instrumental role in saving musa her story is mentioned in

[14:56]the quran quran was supposed to get married to kaltham and he

[15:02]was a senior figure in the israelites and the israelites went through

[15:09]a lot after the exodus and after prophet moses established the government

[15:17]everyone thought that he's a mummim he's an adviser to musa he

[15:22]even thought that but the reality reality was something else when all

[15:29]of a sudden allah revealed to moses that people need to pay

[15:34]tax they need to pay zakat alms this was his test tests

[15:41]vary from one person to another there's a hadith that says there

[15:51]are people that when they become rich they go astray you don't

[15:57]see them attending in any of these religious programs that's that's it

[16:03]they're rich but when they become poor see them coming to the

[16:09]center you see them they are closer to allah when they are

[16:16]poor when they don't have money or when they are sick but

[16:21]there are people to the contrary when they are poor they nag

[16:26]all the time why is it that all the rich people even

[16:29]though they don't have faith in god allah gives them rizq while

[16:36]i pray i fast i am religious god doesn't give me anything

[16:40]and his poverty destroys his iman so this was his test musa

[16:55]said that you have to pay zakat it was difficult for him

[17:03]he worked hard he labored day and night to accumulate his money

[17:08]and now he has to give it to musa that's when he

[17:16]said to the israelites that musa he's presiding over us he's become

[17:22]our leader and now he wants our money this was a fitnah

[17:28]this was an imtan now one might say that he could have

[17:33]just abstained from paying zakat and become a fassiq he's not following

[17:37]this ruling from god but no this leads him because it's a

[17:43]fitnah to renouncing his faith he said musa wants everything from us

[17:51]that's when he made an accusation and he talked to a woman

[17:55]to stand up in the middle of the the the majdahs that

[17:59]they had and accused musa of wrongdoing accused musa of committing adultery

[18:08]this was the story of qaran so we go through lots of

[18:13]ups and downs in life lots of ups and downs some people

[18:18]might be able to pass the test of physical desires it's not

[18:23]a big issue for them they preoccupy themselves with other things but

[18:29]then they grow up get married their relationship becomes turbulent and the

[18:40]test is created by god musa when his nation were tested in

[18:45]one of the stories it's mentioned in the quran he says you

[18:51]created that problem to test their faith these problems are engineered to

[18:58]reveal our reality to see whether or not we're truthful about our

[19:02]iman allah could have made it a smooth sailing when it comes

[19:07]to everything in life but no even if your relationship with your

[19:12]wife with your husband is harmonious you'll face another problem test in

[19:17]another field for example your son is afflicted with a physical disease

[19:23]with a mental disease and this will become a challenge for you

[19:27]or if it's nothing if it has nothing to do with physical

[19:32]sickness your son might go astray your daughter goes astray and this

[19:37]is how allah will test you various tests but these tests are

[19:43]meant to squeeze us to put us under enormous pressure to see

[19:50]how we act to see how we perform in light of these

[19:57]pressures so you could pass the first test but when it comes

[20:01]to money no difficult you fail in that test and it's not

[20:06]just a test that you failed in it's an entrapment this could

[20:10]take away your faith this could take away your iman or maybe

[20:17]you could even pass the test of money then it's about your

[20:21]ego your ego can destroy your iman one of the companions of

[20:30]rasulullah his name is subayr ibn al aawam a cousin of rasulullah

[20:34]and a cousin of emir al mu'mineen he was a distinguished figure

[20:40]in islam he was someone that defended rasulullah for so many years

[20:46]participated in all the battles one of the first people to bring

[20:52]faith in the prophet and he passed major tests allah tested the

[21:01]companions of rasulullah many times one of the biggest test was with

[21:07]respect to emir al mumin following the death of rasulullah he passed

[21:12]that test and when they attacked the house of fatima when they

[21:17]raided the house of emir al mumin he was the only person

[21:20]to unsheathe his sword and wanted to attack the attackers one of

[21:27]very few people and he was one of the one of very

[21:32]few people that fatima tizarah allowed fatima tizarah in her will she

[21:38]mentioned the names of the people that she wanted to take part

[21:42]in her funeral procession one of the few names that were mentioned

[21:46]was the name of zubayr ibn al awan mentioned in the will

[21:49]of fatima to zara and he participated in her funeral procession and

[21:55]he knew where she was buried right but there was something in

[22:00]his heart that didn't surface back then allah needed to test him

[22:07]and test him and test him he was tested during the time

[22:11]of amir al mumin and he rebelled against the same person that

[22:17]he defended he's gone for good one of the representatives of our

[22:29]imams a man by the name of ash al maghani he was

[22:35]a waqeel of three of our imams three of our imams when

[22:58]representatives when he appointed hossein ibn didn't like it hussain ibn al

[23:21]why not me his ego his arrogance resulted in him moving away

[23:32]from the right path and he invented his own religion and he

[23:39]fabricated hadith eventually imam issued a statement against him knows who knows

[23:52]what could happen to us don't be too confident about your faith

[23:57]because these tests are not easy are not easy the jews the

[24:08]israelites they knew based on their scriptures that god will send a

[24:15]new prophet and they knew that this prophet will emerge from the

[24:21]arabian peninsula and they knew that this prophet that will come at

[24:28]the end of times will emerge from the holy city of medina

[24:35]and this is why so many jews migrated to medina even though

[24:40]the city of medina doesn't have any significance it's weather it's terrain

[24:47]it's terrible but because in their scripture they knew that the prophet

[24:52]will emerge from that part of the world they migrated there to

[24:56]be the first to embrace him but they thought this prophet will

[25:02]be from amongst the israelites but allah wanted to test them all

[25:08]of a sudden this prophet emerges from amongst the arabs and back

[25:14]then who were the arabs the idol worshippers people that used to

[25:19]bury their own their own daughters one man would marry 400 wives

[25:25]and whenever there is an attack he would kill all his wives

[25:31]they would worship the idol in the morning an idol created from

[25:35]dates when they become hungry at night they would eat their idol

[25:39]they would eat the god that they created these were the arabs

[25:43]now an arab becomes a prophet and we have to follow this

[25:47]arab this was their test and the nation of our prophet was

[25:54]tested the same way the israelites were tested as well they said

[25:59]look we'll accept everyone but ali ibn abi talib and this was

[26:03]their test allah could have could have blessed the prophet with a

[26:09]son his son becomes his successor this would have been a smooth

[26:14]transition but he wanted to test everyone it has to be through

[26:21]and by god allah subhanahu ta'ala does not approve their iman does

[26:34]not approve their faith until they submit to you because islam is

[26:41]about submission if they don't submit to the will of the prophet

[26:49]they're not even mumineen but this is not just a test for

[26:55]the people in the past yes we should take lessons from the

[27:00]past but it will be as difficult but we will be tested

[27:03]as well so the people that rejected ali ibn abi talib they

[27:06]rejected the prophet whoever embraces you has embraced me whoever rejects you

[27:14]have rejected me whoever rebels against you has rebelled against me but

[27:21]then you have the other test of following ali ibn abi tal

[27:26]following in the footsteps of emir al mu'mini we deal with this

[27:31]test on a daily basis when we are faced with a problem

[27:36]whether whether it's a marital problem a social problem a problem on

[27:41]a personal level there's always the list of our desires what we

[27:46]want and there is the other list of what allah subhanahu wa

[27:50]ta'ala wants sometimes they come up to me there is a marital

[27:54]problem i tell them jafar ibn muhammad says this but my desire

[28:00]says something else says something else i don't care what jafar ibn

[28:07]muhammad says when there is a conflict of interest we deal with

[28:12]this issue on a daily basis and allah is testing us he

[28:19]tested the people back then and he is testing us as well

[28:32]the hadith says that on the day of judgment the verse says

[28:36]the scales will be brought the hadith says elaborating on this verse

[28:45]that the scales are not literal scales that will be brought to

[28:49]weigh our amal these scales are the prophets and the imams imam

[28:55]ali will be brought and he will be standing on one side

[28:59]of the scale and we will be brought on the day of

[29:01]judgment to stand on the other side of the scale are you

[29:04]really a follower of ali ibn abi talib well let's weigh your

[29:07]amal against the amal of ali ibn abi talib your prayers against

[29:11]the prayers of ali ibn abi talib your faith your sacrifice your

[29:16]iman your commitment the way you dealt with your wife the way

[29:20]ali dealt with his wife the way ali raised his children the

[29:26]way you raise your children the way ali ibn abi talib gave

[29:30]zakat the way you give zakat all these things will be weighed

[29:34]against the yamal of ali ibn abi talib and for some people

[29:39]their amal will correspond with you can't you can't in theory be

[29:48]a follower of ali but in reality be a follower of muawiyah

[29:52]there was a man from the israelites he thought to himself that

[29:59]musa is not coming so let's have fun let's join pharaoh and

[30:04]his people until musa comes when he comes i'll join musa because

[30:09]i know musa is a prophet of god he's from the israelites

[30:12]this is what he did he was with the with the pharaoh

[30:16]worshiped pharaoh to make some gains and profits when musa came he

[30:21]joined musa why to get the the better of the best of

[30:26]both worlds so then musa with all the israelites they go towards

[30:32]the sea the red sea and allah he performs a miracle he

[30:37]splits the sea they go inside but this man couldn't go inside

[30:42]he tried to go with his horse but he couldn't his horse

[30:45]wouldn't follow him until pharaoh came when faran came the hadith says

[30:51]that it was gabriel that was preventing the horse from joining musa

[30:57]until faran came so he went inside with pharaoh and his cohorts

[31:03]but he drowned with pharaoh because his actions were like the actions

[31:08]of faran you can't follow or the likes of your actions correspond

[31:16]with them while you want to be with ali ibn abi talib

[31:20]on the day of judgment please recite aloud
