One of the most controversial and highly discussed subjects in Islam is the topic of Hijab (veil). In this series, Sayed Ahmed Al-Qazwini provides a detailed overview of the different aspects and misconceptions surrounding the Hijab. [0:01][Music] over the last two nights we began the discussion about hijab

[0:16]and we said that the topic of hijab is one of the

[0:23]most controversial topics of Islam and there's lots of confusion confusion and

[0:29]misconceptions about it and that's why we stated that it is necessary

[0:33]to explain and discuss this topic from an Islamic point of view

[0:37]so that we are able to clear many of these misconceptions and

[0:43]biases that are held against the concept of hijab and for the

[0:48]last two nights we number one we proved that the hijab is

[0:53]ordained clearly by Allah subhanahu wa taala in the Quran and there

[0:57]is no room to doubt that hijab is not t and that

[1:01]we prove that the hijab is not a part of culture but

[1:05]hijab is ordained by Allah in the Quran and number two we

[1:08]Pro that Islam we said that Islam did not introduce hijab but

[1:15]rather hijab existed before Islam it is one of the teachings of

[1:18]Christianity and one of the teachings of Judaism and today inshallah we

[1:25]shall speak about and go over the third or the fourth point

[1:27]that we raised in the beginning of the lectures that we said

[1:33]that in most non-muslim countries and when you come to the non-muslims

[1:37]and when you come to the West you find that there is

[1:42]a NE very negative view of the hijab and many people many

[1:46]non-muslims and westerners they object to the notion of hijab and what

[1:50]you find is that in this current modern day there is rarely

[1:57]there is rarely a city in which you will not find the

[2:02]a woman that is wearing the hijab across the world and especially

[2:05]in the West in the major cities of the West it is

[2:09]no longer rare to see a woman that is wearing the hijab

[2:11]start from all the way from Australia to new to New Zealand

[2:16]to America from Los Angeles to Vancouver and Canada to Chicago to

[2:21]New York and Miami and and Toronto and Halifax and London and

[2:25]Paris and Rome and Berlin and across all the European country countries

[2:30]and the Western World the concept of is very clear to them

[2:37]in that they see all the time it's not it's not rare

[2:41]to see a and to many of these non-muslims this when they

[2:45]go out in the streets and they see a woman that is

[2:49]wearing the hijab it scares them why because to them the hijab

[2:52]this headscarf that they see represents all that the Modern Woman fought

[2:59]to break against they see that the hijab all our endeavors and

[3:05]all our attempts whatever the Modern Woman tried to break from and

[3:10]Destroy they see that this is represented in the hijab and that's

[3:13]why they will tell you the hijab represents what represents the oppression

[3:17]of Islam towards women that's why they will tell you Islam is

[3:23]a misogynistic religion it's anti-woman it deems women inferior to men and

[3:28]the greatest proof they use against us is the because they see

[3:32]look the hijab is oppression women have to cover up because they're

[3:35]inferior and this is a symbol and sign of woman subservience and

[3:39]subjection to men and this shows that women are nothing but prized

[3:45]possessions of men and thus you find they attack Islam and they

[3:52]attack the notion of hijab and you if you remember a few

[3:55]years ago the president of France then was Nicholas sarosi he went

[4:02]out in the public and he condemned hijab and he said that

[4:08]the hijab and especially the full hijab the bka or the the

[4:11]the veil that covers the face this is not welcomed in France

[4:15]because according to him this is what this goes against the dignity

[4:21]as he said and the liberty of woman so if a woman

[4:23]wears this if she wears this if she wears the if she

[4:28]covers her face and body she is humiliating herself and this is

[4:34]a form of as he said subservience and debasement of woman and

[4:38]thus you find you find this sentiment is predominant in many of

[4:44]the Western countries that they have a very very evil look towards

[4:48]hijab hijab is evil it's oppressive to woman and that's why you

[4:52]find that the hijab is attacked in every way possible for example

[4:56]politically politically the has been banned in numerous countries for example France

[5:03]in France in 2004 they came out and legislated a law that

[5:08]says a woman is not allowed to wear the in public so

[5:13]if a woman covers her face with this piece of cloth this

[5:18]is now all of a sudden a crime and she will be

[5:19]what she will be she will be considered as a criminal and

[5:24]there will be a penalty to pay she'll have to pay a

[5:25]fine and you find that shortly after another European country followed and

[5:30]that was Belgium they also banned theab in public and you you

[5:37]see France didn't stop there France went further by Banning not just

[5:41]the nikab even the hijab the head scarf was banned in all

[5:45]public schools public universities and government institutions so if there was a

[5:51]girl that wanted to go to public schools in fronts or public

[5:57]universities or wants to work for the government if there's a public

[6:01]Institution meaning it's funded by the government any agency or institution that

[6:04]is funded by the government you're not allowed to wear the hijab

[6:09]in that institution and you find that what's even worse you see

[6:14]France is a non-muslim country it's a non-muslim secular country but's even

[6:18]what's even worse is the Muslim countries that place bad on hijab

[6:24]and this is what's up upsetting and disturbing France is a secular

[6:28]Nation it's a non-muslim country what's upsetting and disturbing is when a

[6:31]Muslim country does that and that's why you find there are two

[6:36]Muslim countries that placed a ban on the hijab the hijab the

[6:38]head scarf one is Tunisia and the other is turkey and that's

[6:44]why you find if you read the news over the last 30

[6:46]years from time to time the cops the police they would launch

[6:51]crackdowns on the people they would go in the streets and they

[6:53]would take off the hijabs of these Muslim and they're the police

[6:57]are Muslim but they would take off the hijabs of these women

[7:00]it's illegal and likewise just like France in turkey and in Tunisia

[7:04]for many years a girl could not wear a hijab if you

[7:08]wanted to go to school public school public university or work for

[7:12]the government so if you want to be a politician work for

[7:15]the government be in the parliament being any form of government any

[7:19]involvement of government you have to take off the hijab do you

[7:21]see how do you see the animosity that they had against the

[7:23]hijab and you find only recently the past few years in turkey

[7:29]and Tunisia the these laws were a little Lucid but what you

[7:34]find is what politically the hijab is attacked socially the hijab is

[7:39]attacked in the west you find that many Muslim women that wear

[7:42]the hijab in the west are discriminated against and that you find

[7:46]for example you'll find tens of cases where Muslim girls wearing the

[7:54]hijab would go and they would apply for a job for an

[7:56]for a job and they would be denied and they would be

[8:00]denied the right to work for that company just because she was

[8:04]wearing the hijab she's qualified she has all the necessary prerequisites and

[8:09]she's perfectly qualified the only problem is what is that hes scarp

[8:13]on your on your head so they were they were denied the

[8:16]right to work for companies because they wore the hijab and just

[8:20]recently seven or eight years ago before I get to that 7

[8:25]or8 years ago there was a Muslim girl by the name of

[8:30]Samantha e uh Samantha e e or or Ela or something like

[8:32]that Samantha Ela and you find this Muslim girl this Muslim young

[8:39]woman she went to a famous American Apparel uh company that sell

[8:43]clothes by the name of abber cromi I'm sure you've heard of

[8:47]it and maybe you have some other stories here she went and

[8:50]she applied for a job in ABY and the person that interviewed

[8:53]her he has to see if she's qualified check check check everything

[8:58]was good she was perfect but at the end he looks at

[9:00]her he sees she's wearing the head scarf so he tells her

[9:03]I'm sorry because you're wearing the head scarf you're denied what does

[9:06]she do this is obviously religious discrimination this is this is not

[9:10]allowed in America so she goes and she files a lawsuit against

[9:13]that company and she wins but then a judge he overturns it

[9:18]and he says no the company was had the right to do

[9:22]that because the company has a certain certain looks that they want

[9:26]to preserve and your hijab is against their looks so what did

[9:28]she do she finally took it up to the Supreme Court and

[9:32]a few weeks ago if you remember it was all over the

[9:35]news the Supreme Court finally took the side of the hijabi girl

[9:37]and they decided that it's unconstitutional for a company to deny any

[9:42]girl the hijab the the job just because she's wearing this is

[9:48]religious discrimination and that's why they said she could work for the

[9:50]company this is one incident another incident of discrimination against women that

[9:56]we the hijab is in Canada a few years ago in Montreal

[10:02]many of you remember there was an 11-year-old girl by the name

[10:06]of asahan mans she was a soccer player she played with a

[10:12]team and she wore the hijab and she played soccer while wearing

[10:14]the hijab and maybe she was the only one on her team

[10:18]that wore the hijab the first match she was allowed to play

[10:21]no problems the second match no problems the third match the referee

[10:24]who Subhan Allah you see the problem I say sometimes Muslims are

[10:27]worse than non-muslims the ref who was a Muslim ironically he comes

[10:32]to this young girl and he tells her you can't worry the

[10:34]hijab and Play Soccer why because this violates the regulations and the

[10:37]laws of soccer because it's not safe you might choke you might

[10:42]choke and thus she was what she was disqualified she was not

[10:45]allowed to play in the third soccer match and this created uproar

[10:49]in the Muslim Community this is religious discrimination and what you find

[10:54]is interesting the other teammates who were non-muslim they stood with her

[10:58]they backed her and they said if she is not allowed to

[10:59]play we will not play and that's why they forfeit it so

[11:02]this is another incident of religious discrimination against a woman a Muslim

[11:06]woman that is wearing hijab and like I said there are many

[11:10]many other tens of cases go on the internet and read about

[11:12]it tens of cases of women that applied for jobs they were

[11:17]denied just because they are wearing the hijab so you find Social

[11:22]discrimination exists in many of these Western countries against a woman that

[11:28]is wearing the hijab and that's why for a Muslim woman to

[11:31]wear the hijab in the west is not easy it's not easy

[11:35]it's a challenge it's difficult with all these evil sentiments and she

[11:38]is looked down upon and she will be denied to many of

[11:40]her rights because of the hijab of course it's a challenge but

[11:45]obviously the Ed of the word will be much more and now

[11:47]the question that comes here is why why all this evil sentiments

[11:54]against the hijab now you find that yes a portion of the

[11:57]people in the west the non-muslims it's because they are ignorant of

[12:01]the philosophy of the hijab and I'll get to this at the

[12:04]end of the lecture but before that you find that many many

[12:09]of these non-muslims and westerners when they attack the hijab and they

[12:13]say it's evil and they say it's oppression you find that the

[12:17]true motive behind many of those accusations is because they have a

[12:21]grudge against Islam they don't have a problem with the hijab they

[12:27]have a problem with the woman that is wearing the hijab they

[12:30]have a problem with the beliefs and the religion of the woman

[12:33]that is wearing the hijab and you find they have a grudge

[12:37]against Islam and one of the most conspicuous symbols of Islam in

[12:43]the world today is the hijab the hijab has become the identity

[12:46]of Muslim so if you want to attack Islam the best way

[12:51]is to attack it through hijab through the headscarf because it's a

[12:54]very very easy target there's women all over the world and in

[12:58]the west that wear the hijab so if I have a grudge

[13:02]and animosity and against Islam the best way is to do is

[13:04]to attack Islam by attacking the hijab now you might say I'm

[13:11]getting emotional and no this is not the true case I'm not

[13:14]getting emotional brothers and sisters this is true that for many of

[13:17]these accusations there are political motives behind it there are evil motives

[13:20]behind it and they have no problem with the hijab they don't

[13:25]see the hijab oppressive but the true problem is with Islam they

[13:27]want to attack Islam and Destroy Islam so they do it through

[13:32]this is not emotional talk and I will give you proof to

[13:35]show that and I'll be honest with you I'll be frank with

[13:40]you that this is a big problem that exists the bias that

[13:43]many non-muslims have against Islam they take it out against the girls

[13:47]so I'll bring you three pieces of proof and evidence that shows

[13:53]you that what I'm saying is true that most of the reasons

[13:55]most of the motives behind the people that say hijab is oppressive

[13:59]hijab is bad hijab is evil hijab is this hijab is that

[14:03]is that these people the true motive is to destroy Islam their

[14:07]problem is with Islam their problem isn't with the hijab and that's

[14:11]why and that's why I always say brothers and sisters with the

[14:14]wahhabis the same thing applies you see the wahabis when they kill

[14:20]the followers of why they tell you because the are they worship

[14:23]the graves they worship they worship human beings and that's why we

[14:27]kill them and that's why I always say that this is nonsense

[14:32]this isn't true the wahabis don't have a problem with doing Zara

[14:35]of the graves the wahabis don't have a problem with worshiping even

[14:39]if we worship the graves they have no problem with worshiping the

[14:43]graves they have no problem with worshiping Idols they have no problem

[14:46]with any of that do you know what their problem is their

[14:48]problem is with that person that is laying in the grave their

[14:53]problem is with your imams he doesn't want you to do Zara

[14:58]of your imams he doesn't care if you worship an idol worship

[15:00]whoever you want just don't go near the imams so his problem

[15:04]is not with doing Z of the graves it's more of a

[15:06]problem with the person in the grave he wants to bring down

[15:12]he wants to bring down imass IM Hussein so what does he

[15:14]say you guys worship it's not that or else if that was

[15:20]the true case how come you see never never a wahhabi they

[15:26]never attack the other Muslims non Muslims that do of the graves

[15:30]go to irq you see abif has a shrine and the sunnis

[15:35]they go and they do Z another that they have gilani he

[15:38]has a shrine they go and they do Zar go to for

[15:42]example certain countries in a certain country I don't know which country

[15:45]it is exactly but bukari the famous Sunni scholar bukari he has

[15:49]a huge Shrine and the sunnis they worship did you ever hear

[15:53]in your life aabi attacking them or saying this is sh or

[15:55]saying this is did you hear a wahhabi ever trying to kill

[16:01]an Idol worshipper in China in Japan in Thailand why is it

[16:03]only the so their problem isn't with Idol worshiping the problem isn't

[16:10]with doing Z their problem is with they hate us they kill

[16:14]us because we love and these are all excuses that they use

[16:19]worship the graves worship these are all excuses if they truly had

[16:25]a problem why do why don't they try to destroy the shrine

[16:30]of for example bukari or they never even attack it they know

[16:35]there's a shrine they never attack it so this proves that what

[16:39]they're playing with they're playing games and they are not true and

[16:42]sincere about their motives so the same thing applies with the hijab

[16:45]they don't have a problem with the hijab they have a problem

[16:49]with a person that's wearing the hijab with Muslims with Islam and

[16:52]that's why they attack Islam through the hijab and like I said

[16:55]three proofs proof number one that they don't have a problem with

[16:59]the hijab it's more they have a problem with Islam is that

[17:02]these accusations that you hear that hijab is evil hijab is oppression

[17:06]towards women how come is how come is it that we only

[17:13]hear these accusations we only began hearing them 20 30 or maximum

[17:18]50 60 years ago before the 20th century you never heard a

[17:25]trace of any atheist of any Christian of any Jew of any

[17:28]non-muslim that ever attack the concept of hij this is all new

[17:34]and yeah you might say maybe because they loved Islam No go

[17:38]read history you will find that hundreds of books have been written

[17:42]by Christians and non-muslims attacking Islam and trying to disprove Islam you

[17:47]will never find any of those Christians ever said attacked Islam through

[17:52]hij they never ever said this go back to early Christian books

[17:56]500 years ago 200 years ago a th000 years ago every small

[18:00]detail of Islam they would attack it this is bad this is

[18:05]evil this is wrong but they never attacked hijab why all of

[18:08]a sudden 30 years ago all of a sudden hijab became evil

[18:12]for a thousand years it was good no one attacked it 30

[18:14]40 50 years ago all of a sudden it becomes degrading to

[18:18]woman and it becomes oppression and it becomes evil what happens so

[18:22]this shows you that if they truly had a problem with hijab

[18:24]this would reflect in their early teachings and like I said yesterday

[18:30]if they truly were against hijab they would attack the Bible they

[18:33]would attack the what the TM they would attack Christians and Jews

[18:36]as well because they also have the hijab in their books and

[18:41]I said the only difference between Islam Muslims and Christians and Jews

[18:45]that Muslims state adherent to their hijab most of them the Christians

[18:47]and Jews they don't follow their teachings or else in their teachings

[18:50]I proved yesterday there is the concept of hijab so if you

[18:55]believe hijab is evil why don't you attack Christianity why don't you

[18:59]attack Jesus why don't you attack Moses why is it only Islam

[19:02]so this shows you that they have no problem with with the

[19:08]hijab itself but their problem is with what is Islam it's not

[19:12]with hijab that's number one number two if a non-muslim especially a

[19:16]Christian tells you that the hijab is evil there's a very very

[19:19]strong and beautiful answer you can answer them with what do you

[19:24]tell them you ask them three questions question number one you tell

[19:27]them have you heard of something called nuns they will tell you

[19:32]yes what are nuns they will tell you nuns are certain women

[19:35]devout practicing Christian woman that are called nuns question number two ask

[19:41]them have you noticed what nuns were they will tell you yes

[19:46]they cover their entire body except the face and the hands which

[19:49]is basically what the hijab so that's question number two question number

[19:54]three have you ever heard anyone attack nuns for wearing hijab have

[20:00]you in your life I have never have you ever heard anyone

[20:04]say that nons are degrading themselves by wearing the hijab have you

[20:09]ever heard of anyone that accuses the hijab of the nuns as

[20:12]oppression and this is a sign of inferiority never in fact Christians

[20:17]when it comes to n they have such a positive look of

[20:22]their hijab their hijab is a sign of modesty Chastity it's a

[20:25]sign of their Devotion to Jesus to Mary and it's a sign

[20:30]that they are practicing and good people that's why they were nuns

[20:32]they're very holy in their eyes but when they see this poor

[20:37]Muslim woman where they hijab she's evil she's backwards she's this do

[20:40]you see the double standard do you see the double standard do

[20:43]you see the hypocrisy that's why I tell you their problem is

[20:48]not with hijab it's with the woman that's wearing the hijab it's

[20:51]with Islam and Muslims if they had a problem with hijab they

[20:55]would attack nuns and they would say nuns this is depress this

[20:58]is oppression this is degrad this is this and this is that

[21:01]but you will never hear that it's always directed the attacks are

[21:05]always directed towards Islam and towards Muslims just like the wahabis they

[21:09]have no problem with worshiping the graves with doing Zar we don't

[21:11]worship The Grapes but even if we worship they have no problem

[21:15]with that worship the idols they don't care their problem is with

[21:18]the persons that you're visiting and that's why brothers and sisters try

[21:23]this I challenge anyone of you take a z book go to

[21:27]the city of Medina stand right in front of the grave of

[21:29]and no one will lay his finger on you you see those

[21:35]around the grave of as soon as you say get away they

[21:42]kick you out try what with a loud voice show them that

[21:53]front of the grave of every couple of seconds he kicks me

[21:56]out I have to go and stand somewhere else that off that

[21:58]person that works all of a sudden I see a man with

[22:04]a very long very long uh beard and a very short so

[22:06]obviously he's Wabi and he is reading Z what is this guy

[22:12]reading who's he visiting so I look it's in Arabic I see

[22:14]it says I saw this with my eyes it says I salute

[22:26]you Salam unto you the two khas of the two Vice jants

[22:31]of so I I spoke to him he didn't speak Arabic he

[22:33]was probably from India or Pakistan so I asked him who are

[22:38]you speaking to so he flipped the page I see W he

[22:45]did his Z no one touched it no one told him anything

[22:50]they have a problem with Z huh no W they don't they

[22:52]have a problem with the person that you're doing Zar to IM

[23:00]but do Z to one of the companions to one of the

[23:03]sah that's perfectly fine so you see Subhan Allah here in the

[23:08]west the same thing applies that when it comes to hijab they

[23:10]have no problem with hijab and that's why none is fine and

[23:14]none is Exempted and none is excluded she can wear the hijab

[23:17]and she will be looked as a holy person but when a

[23:21]Muslim does it she's looked down upon so this is number two

[23:23]and number three why I say there are evil motives Behind these

[23:29]accusations is that people like sarosi sarosi and the likes of sarosi

[23:33]that when they say that the hijab is degrading to woman you

[23:39]ask them you ask a person like sarosi and the likes of

[23:42]sarosi when a woman decides to go out in the public and

[23:47]cover himself because she believes this is modest you say this is

[23:50]degrading but when a woman goes out fully naked in the street

[23:55]this is not degrading it's not if a woman wants to go

[24:00]out fully naked in the street is this degrading is this band

[24:04]in France you see France is filled with new beaches let a

[24:07]woman go out in any Street in France wearing a bikini will

[24:11]anyone touch her will anyone tell her this is degrading you're letting

[24:14]all men look at you as a sexual object will anyone tell

[24:20]that to a woman in France no why because to them being

[24:23]naked is what is freedom is Liberty to them Freedom equals being

[24:27]naked that's all and wearing clothes this is what this is oppression

[24:33]this is backwards this is all the other words that they accuse

[24:39]Islam of so do you see the double standard here again do

[24:41]you see how ironic that if a woman wants to cover her

[24:45]body this is what this is oppression this is degrading humiliating but

[24:49]if she wants to come out naked that's fine at least if

[24:52]we want to be fair we have to ask for all woman

[24:56][Music] we have to ask all women to be moderate don't wear

[25:06]the full hijab and don't come out naked be modest wear some

[25:13]clothes but no this is degrading if a woman wants to wear

[25:15]clothes it's degrading but if she wants to take off clothes it's

[25:16]not degrading and go out in the public in front of the

[25:20]eyes of men that's perfectly fine that's perf do you see the

[25:23]double standard so you see the problem is what the problem is

[25:28]with Islam the problem isn't with the fact that I wear the

[25:31]hijab I'm wearing the hijab and thus it's bad their problem is

[25:33]not with that brothers and sisters and that's why and that's why

[25:39]if any non-muslim one day tells you that the hijab is backwards

[25:43]the hijab is backwards then there is a very beautiful answer that

[25:47]you can give them if a non-muslim comes to you that the

[25:52]hijab is backwards this is from a thousand years ago now the

[25:54]world has become what modern and the world is moving towards fashion

[25:59]and whatever this is backwards so how do you answer one of

[26:03]the most beautiful answers brothers and sisters was given by a yey

[26:06]woman a yeny woman that wears hijab in 2011 many of you

[26:13]know this a yeny woman she won the Nobel Peace Prize and

[26:19]her name was and she wore the hijab so when they presented

[26:24]her this award journalists came to interview her and some of the

[26:27]jour J ists they you know what they criticize her they said

[26:33]you know what such a person of High Caliber you're so in

[26:36]you're so intelligent you're so educated you won the Peace Prize this

[26:39]doesn't match with your hijab sorry when I imagine Nobel Peace Prize

[26:45]I imagine what be I imagine you know seeing skin flush this

[26:47]is how they see it so how does that you know it's

[26:51]not appropriate for you it doesn't match it's not proportional hijab is

[26:55]for the backwards Muslims the uneducated Muslims she gave the most beautiful

[26:59]answer and I'll read you her answer do you know what she

[27:03]said she said man listen carefully it's such a beautiful answer she

[27:07]said man in the early times was almost naked go back to

[27:13]3,000 years ago people the stone ages they were almost naked they

[27:16]just covered the private parts and that's why likewise now if you

[27:19]go to villages in Africa that are you know that are uncivilized

[27:22]they're almost naked so she's trying to tell them that when men

[27:29]and human being were uncivilized they used to be naked okay man

[27:33]in the early times was almost naked and as his intellect evolved

[27:41]he started wearing clothes as time evolved people began to wear more

[27:44]and more clothes you don't see people wearing like the stone ages

[27:47]anymore that's why till now when you go to the uncivilized villages

[27:49]in Africa and some other countries they don't wear clothes once they

[27:53]become civilized and come to the city they wear clothes so is

[27:57]it wearing clothes that's backwards Wards or taking off clothes that's backwards

[28:02]which one taking off clothes not wearing clothes and then she says

[28:06]what I am today what I am today and what I'm wearing

[28:11]today represents the highest level of thought and civilization that man has

[28:15]achieved and it's not regress don't tell me I'm going backwards the

[28:19]more human beings progress the more they Advance the more clothes they

[28:23]put on so don't tell me that because I'm wearing the hijab

[28:27]this is regressive and going backwards you're the one that's coming out
