[2:00]Muhammad my dear brothers and sisters Salam alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh continuing with
[2:13]our discussion from last night can we just lower this down but
[2:18]the volume is responsible for the volume please continuing with our discussion
[2:24]from last night we started talking about Surat Maryam in the Holy
[2:29]Quran and we said that at the beginning of the surah there
[2:32]are some letters yeah I am Saud there are about 29 Suez
[2:43]in the Quran that began with these letters and we said that
[2:49]there are many interpretation as to why these letters exist we gave
[2:55]three interpretations one was that there are secrets only allah subhanaw taala
[3:00]knows their true interpretation the second reason was that those who doubt
[3:07]the authenticity of the Quran being the word of allah subhana wa
[3:10]ta'ala allah saying here are the tools there just made up of
[3:12]alphabets come up with a copy like the quran if you can
[3:18]and third it is a way for us to realize and understand
[3:26]the significance of every letter that we speak every letter carries value
[3:32]every word carries value so be careful as to what you say
[3:35]how you say things and that kind of took us to effective
[3:41]means of communication which are the five C's that I presented last
[3:44]night and I wonder if anyone of you remembers any of those
[3:46]five as expected no worries don't don't feel bad i I knew
[3:53]that people would not just remember them because was just a nice
[3:55]lecture from last night and that's about it but moving on to
[4:02]tonight's lecture so allah we move on to the second ayah smell
[4:06]of manure hain Vicco mohammed ii arabic a Buddha who Zachariah so
[4:15]here Allah subhana WA Ta'ala now begins the discussion about Prophet Zechariah
[4:21]salam allahi aleeh Prophet Zachariah Zacharias is not mentioned much in the
[4:27]Quran we don't know his detailed full history unlike for example prophet
[4:32]use of alehissalaam whom we know his history from his childhood all
[4:36]the way up till he became the king of Egypt or for
[4:38]example prophet musa alehissallaam Moses whom we know a lot of events
[4:44]that took place in his life Zechariah alehissalaam we don't know much
[4:49]about what's going on here in his life but there are some
[4:57]glimpses about some aspects of his life he was married to the
[5:02]sister of million salam ala hija maryam the mother of isa salamullah
[5:09]ala whom we will be discussing her later on this whole saga
[5:11]is named after her she's the only woman named in the quran
[5:17]by name malya malya salah so Zechariah was married to her sister
[5:23]mannion is the daughter of a prophet of God by the name
[5:27]of Imran Miriam's mom was a lady by the name of Hanna
[5:37]Hanna interestingly I once spoke at a church and after I finished
[5:42]my discussion I turned to the priest and I said do you
[5:48]by any chance know the name of the mother of Mary and
[5:54]he paused for a few seconds and said no I said in
[5:56]our traditions it's not mentioned in the Quran but in our traditions
[6:01]at the met it is mentioned that her name is Hannah so
[6:03]pause for a few seconds I said you know what I've come
[6:07]across this name as well you're right it is Hannah now that
[6:09]you mentioned it comes to my mind Allah does not mention how
[6:14]by name in the Quran but he does mention her story in
[6:18]surah al-e-imran about her giving birth to Maryam so I'm gone the
[6:26]father of Maryam received a revelation that Allah subhana WA Ta'ala told
[6:32]him of your progeny there is going to be a child we're
[6:36]gonna give you a boy who is going to be a mercy
[6:43]to humanity that's the revelation he receives his wife Hannah becomes pregnant
[6:47]so he tells her well the revelation says Allah is gonna give
[6:51]me a boy who is were going to be a mercy to
[6:55]this world so he and Hannah were expecting a boy but then
[7:07]sometimes through the pregnancy Imran dies and Hanna is now left pregnant
[7:13]with a child whom she thinks is a boy until Hanna delivers
[7:17]and she delivers a girl and hence the ayah in the Quran
[7:26]in surah al-e-imran says toilet rugby o my lord I have delivered
[7:30]a girl they were not expecting a girl she was expecting a
[7:40]boy because of their revelation but then she braided or she made
[7:43]it Oh Hannah prayed she said my lord except this little girl
[7:46]and raised her in a blessed way in a blessed manner so
[7:54]Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala answers the dua of Hanna the scholars of
[8:00]the children of Israel at the time realized this child is not
[8:05]an ordinary child so Maryam alaihe salam was accepted by the children
[8:15]of israel the scholars and each one of them wanted to adopt
[8:19]her to raise her to be the one in charge of raising
[8:22]maryam so they had a competition and amongst them was a korea
[8:31]Ali his he was one of the competitors they threw their pens
[8:35]into the water the competition was whomever's pens or pencils writing instrument
[8:43]rises above the water and does not sink then that is the
[8:46]individual whom Allah will choose to raise Mariam and when they do
[8:51]the competition it is Zechariah alehissalaam who wins the competition and therefore
[8:59]Allah subhana WA Ta'ala assigns him the upbringing of Maryam alaihe salam
[9:07]he raised her in the house of worship and this was a
[9:11]first among the children of israel women were not allowed to reside
[9:14]at the house of worship only men but they realized this child
[9:22]is not an ordinary woman she's not an owner a lady she's
[9:26]Mariam lon so they gave her a chamber in the place of
[9:31]worship and Zecharia alayhis-salam had the key to that chamber he was
[9:37]the only one who had access to Maryam Salam allahi aleeh huh
[9:43]he started taking care of her one day he comes to visit
[9:52]her he unlocks the chamber and he sees that she's got food
[9:56]he asks her Maryam where did you get this from I'm the
[10:05]only one with the key to your chamber who brings you this
[10:09]food so she replies call it human and Allah it is from
[10:15]allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala allah says Kilometre Array has a Korean Arab what
[10:21]are the end aha Gaspar Holly Amalia more analogy ha de every
[10:25]time the Korea would go visit her in her place of worship
[10:30]while she's praying he finds food Marianne where do you get this
[10:35]food from she replies it is from allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala he gives
[10:40]to whomever he wills Zecharia who was also a prophet of allah
[10:46]subhanahu wata'ala sadhus and he was moved by it the Curia was
[10:57]an older man and he was married to Maria alehissalaam sister who
[11:03]was an older lady as well and she did not have children
[11:13]she could not have children he became old and Miriam sister became
[11:19]old but when he saw that Allah subhana WA Ta'ala is giving
[11:28]Maria alaihe salam this is done just so that you guys wake
[11:30]up you know those who are falling asleep is just that whatever
[11:36]the shock is there you know so please bear bear with us
[11:38]you know it helps me maintain you guys awake that's basically the
[11:42]whole idea behind this so when he saw that a loss of
[11:51]Hanna WA Ta'ala gives Maria food has access to Maryam alaihe salam
[11:56]it is said sometimes that the fruits of the summer time she
[12:02]would have them in winter and the fruit of winter she would
[12:06]have in the summer so when he saw that it says in
[12:13]surah al-e-imran Hoonah Anika De Aza Korea Arabic that's when Zechariah turned
[12:17]to his Lord with the door with a prayer he turned to
[12:21]Allah so Hannah Terada with a prayer he was an old man
[12:29]his wife was an older lady she did not have children so
[12:36]what do you think he asked for a child exactly he wants
[12:41]a child even though he's old his wife is old according to
[12:49]the typical standards it's impossible for her to become a mother but
[12:54]when he saw that a loss of Hana who wa'ta'ala is capable
[13:00]of doing whatever he wills just like he's giving food to Miriam
[13:04]when she's alone in her chamber a loss of Hana wata'ala is
[13:11]capable of giving him a child as well and that's what suet
[13:14]Miriam begins with Vic Perotti Rebecca a Buddha who is a Korea
[13:25]and mentioned the mercy of your Lord that was bestowed upon his
[13:31]servant for his slave Abdul Zakariya Zachariah so Allah subhana WA Ta'ala
[13:39]bestowed a mercy upon the Prophet Zachariah whom Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala
[13:46]describes in the Quran as his slave his servant that is the
[13:57]highest status of submission one can achieve when one becomes Abdullah the
[14:07]servant of Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala Allah subhana WA Ta'ala describes our
[14:15]prophets again let's bear witness yes just bear with us here charlotta
[14:19]fix it before the end of the month of Ramadan I shall
[14:27]others sometimes they're busy a lot less than Allah subhana WA Ta'ala
[14:32]describes our Prophet peace be upon him and his divine family in
[14:36]Surat Annisa so bahan and leve ezra reality he Leyland min al-masjid
[14:41]al-haram e ll Masjid al-aqsa glorified be he the one who took
[14:48]on an IED journey his servant from the sacred house to the
[14:59]faraway house also we read in our salat when we pray in
[15:02]that asha hood what do we say in that asha hood of
[15:06]our salat i hope you guys prayed don't you know shall lie
[15:10]honey now you know why we're having these shocks you know there's
[15:16]some that you guys wake up a little bit and respond with
[15:17]me and answer me that's that's all reason what do we say
[15:20]that the show hood la ilaha illallah wahdahu la sharika lah and
[15:26]then what wash hadu ana muhammadan abduhu abduhu wa rasuluh servant of
[15:35]allah subhanahu wata'ala that is the highest status of honor a person
[15:41]can achieve from allah subhanho wa taala to be a slave of
[15:48]allah here brothers and sisters i just want to make a quick
[15:52]comment in this day and age people talk about freedom people talk
[15:58]about empowerment freedom is a very good term in itself and it's
[16:10]an important aspect many people leave their home countries traveling to other
[16:21]countries seeking freedom but question freedom empowerment what's the definition of freedom
[16:28]and empowerment how do you find freedom by not by not being
[16:47]under someone yes power free well by doing by not obeying by
[16:54]not obeying someone interesting not obeying someone the power of free will
[17:00]by not being under someone that's freedom correct these are the definitions
[17:04]that you guys gave me just now by being able to do
[17:13]whatever you want would you accept that definition you're accepted thank you
[17:19]dudes Alcala say all right so these are some definitions of freedom
[17:26]that we kind of discuss here question would you consider the United
[17:34]States as a free country a democracy well nevermind you electing that
[17:43]last residence here please just prior to this last couple years ago
[17:47]did you consider the United States a democracy yeah well hamdulillah that's
[17:53]good you know being a Canadian now our prime minister is actually
[17:57]a not a happy camper with your president these days you know
[18:01]read the news and to find out why so nonetheless it's a
[18:12]democracy people are free do you have the right to do whatever
[18:16]you want in the United States I don't we have freedom of
[18:27]expression in the United States don't we correct most democracies do so
[18:32]freedoms freedom of speech most democracies do so okay freedom of speech
[18:38]can I stand on a flying plane by the exit door and
[18:47]say a law walkabout plane is in the middle of the air
[18:51]and I'm by the exit door and a law like what honestly
[18:59]seriously what do you think is gonna happen assuming I stay alive
[19:05]for the next five minutes I'm Amy tackled by security but wait
[19:13]a minute then hold on a second what about my freedom of
[19:19]speech don't I have freedom of speech the people will say excuse
[19:26]me the authorities will say you do have a freedom of speech
[19:32]but you threatened you became a threat to some people you cause
[19:36]some disruption on the plate and that's not free you're not free
[19:40]to do that you're free as long as you don't harm others
[19:44]or put others in danger but I'll say well I did not
[19:47]harm anyone I did not endanger anyone all I just said is
[19:52]Allah I quote but they're like sorry that is not acceptable okay
[20:00]so do I really have freedom of speech not quite it's limited
[20:04]freedom of speech I don't have an absolute freedom of speech these
[20:09]buildings that you guys are coming in right now before they issue
[20:15]an occupancy permit they have to know how many people will be
[20:18]occupying this place does it meet all the standards of safety of
[20:24]fire etcetera etcetera etcetera inspectors will come take a look at it
[20:27]and only when they give you the check sign then you can
[20:29]allow you're allowed to have the occupancy if they don't give you
[20:35]that check you're not allowed to come in you see but wait
[20:38]a minute I'm free to choose wherever I go let's sorry yes
[20:41]but it's for your own safety unless this building meets all the
[20:44]safety codes and the standards of safety you're not allowed in but
[20:50]it's my choice let's say for example I own this building it's
[20:53]my building so you're not even allowed in your own building unless
[20:56]it meets your the standards of safety so do really oh I
[21:03]really have all the absolute freedom no I don't it's not an
[21:06]absolute freedom driving on the streets and I just love the way
[21:13]some Americans drive on the streets mashallah it's a 50-mile zone and
[21:24]they're driving at 100 the police stops them excuse me what are
[21:27]you doing I'm practicing my freedom sir freedom of expression I would
[21:33]like to express myself in driving 100 miles an hour in a
[21:38]50 mile zone it's like well alright son here is your ticket
[21:42]and practice your freedom before the judge good luck you know isn't
[21:49]that what's gonna happen you don't have the freedom to drive any
[21:53]way you want it's based on the law so there is no
[21:59]such thing as absolute freedom there has to be laws there has
[22:03]to be order and therefore you have employment laws as an employee
[22:08]or employer you're not allowed to pay your employees whatever you want
[22:12]there are standards you have to provide certain standards so there are
[22:21]employment laws ownership laws occupancy laws driving law and so on and
[22:32]so forth we need to have laws why are those laws important
[22:37]the law makers will tell you they are important because they will
[22:40]keep law and order don't keep order plus they're for your own
[22:44]safety and for the safety of others that's why we've made these
[22:49]laws ok so then why is it that people have problem with
[22:51]Lana Claus this land comes with loss so that you can have
[22:59]order in your life but subhanAllah when it comes to the laws
[23:04]of Islam the laws of Allah we put them aside we say
[23:06]no no no no I want to do things my way I
[23:10]don't want to obey anyone I want to be able to do
[23:16]whatever I want not to listen to anybody isn't that the definition
[23:21]of freedom that we just gave ya so is that really freedom
[23:24]true freedom in Islam is the absolute submission to Allah Subhanahu WA
[23:31]Ta'ala that's what freedom is a mammal amirul mumineen Salam Allah here
[23:35]Allah says that some people worship Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala looking towards
[23:49]an exchange for his paradise and that's the worship of the business
[23:54]people meaning for example Ya Allah I'm gonna pray you give me
[24:00]a palace in heaven I will fast I want a river in
[24:04]general I will do this so that you can do this for
[24:06]me that's business I do you give me in exchange that's exactly
[24:10]what business is what is business I give you something you give
[24:12]me something in exchange that's exactly what businesses but that's fine Allah
[24:18]subhana WA Ta'ala understands that psychology that's why in the Quran he
[24:21]says hell I do look home a lot easier should i guide
[24:24]you to a good business a business that will save her from
[24:27]the Hellfire so unlost are listening some things to do believing in
[24:31]Allah believing in The Messenger of Allah so on and so forth
[24:33]so Allah understands our mentality and that's fine that's acceptable but that's
[24:37]one level of worshipers then there are those who worship Allah out
[24:41]of the fear of his Hellfire why do you pray or I'm
[24:45]afraid God's gonna punish me if I don't pray why do you
[24:47]fast I'm afraid of God's punishment I don't want to be punished
[24:49]so I'm gonna fast Iman says that's the worship of the slaves
[24:57]sometimes those of you who work for Horrible Bosses the horrible boss
[25:03]will come and tell you to do something you will do it
[25:05]not because you like that boss but you're afraid that he's gonna
[25:07]fire you so that's basically fear that's the reason you're doing this
[25:15]work Imam Ali Ali salam says those who worship Allah in that
[25:18]context which is fine which is no problem but that's a worship
[25:20]of the slaves he says that there are those who worship Allah
[25:24]because they find him worthy of being worshipped that's the worship of
[25:30]the free these are the free people Muslim even appealed Imam Hussain's
[25:37]cousin an ambassador to Kufa who was killed in Kufa as he
[25:42]was fighting against the enemies and he was all alone in Kufa
[25:45]no one with him anymore everyone left him deserted him he was
[25:48]fighting an army of two three four hundred men even more as
[25:55]he fights he says I have taken an oath that I will
[25:58]never die but as a free man I lay to Allah o
[26:02]Allah Allah Allah or obey - I refuse to die but as
[26:07]a free man obey - an acht Allah Allah hora 3 I
[26:12]want to die free he manifested on the Day of Ashura goes
[26:14]to Albania see Daria he as he was dying on the plains
[26:20]of Karbala who has just supported him and he says to him
[26:23]congratulations or ha ha means free you are a free man as
[26:31]your mother has named you free free why would he call him
[26:37]free free from his desires free from following whatever he wanted to
[26:42]do he did whatever Allah wanted that's true freedom so with that
[26:46]definition in mind question brothers and sisters and this is something serious
[26:50]between us and ourselves between us and God - think about it
[26:54]how many of us are actually worshippers or slaves of God how
[27:01]many of us are actually free do I really wear whatever Allah
[27:09]wants me to wear or do I wear whatever I want where
[27:11]do I speak the way Allah would like me to speak or
[27:16]do I speak the way I want to speak do I treat
[27:19]people the way Allah wants me to treat them or do I
[27:21]treat them the way I want to treat them do I have
[27:25]an egotistical character thinking that I am better than everyone else or
[27:29]do I actually have a submissive character thinking that you know what
[27:34]I may be a better than everyone else but it's up to
[27:37]God to choose I am just like anyone else in that context
[27:42]am i humble am I not that's really what we have to
[27:45]think about it they said a man one day went back in
[27:48]the old days when they used to actually sell slaves like many
[27:53]many many years ago a person went to buy a slave so
[27:55]he comes by the slave to the slave market and he finds
[28:01]somebody that he kind of thinks he's good yessum what's your name
[28:05]and the slave says whatever you want to name me it says
[28:08]what do you like to eat whatever you feed me why do
[28:14]you like to sleep wherever you put me to sleep it's like
[28:17]excuse me why don't you answer my questions I'm asking you what
[28:23]is your name and you tell me whatever you name me what
[28:25]do you want to eat whatever you feed me what do you
[28:28]want to sleep come on what do you like to wear Oh
[28:31]whatever you clothe me whatever you give me to wear answer me
[28:35]the slave looks at this man and gives a beautiful reply all
[28:45]our 10:4 lobule Imani he says does a slave really have any
[28:50]wishes suppose I tell you my name is John but you decide
[28:57]to call me for example Ahmed you know what can I tell
[28:59]you no you're the master on the slave you can call me
[29:02]whatever you want suppose I tell you I would like to eat
[29:05]kebab every day but you tell me no you're gonna have someone
[29:10]every day can I tell you no call us you're the master
[29:13]on the slave suppose I'd like to tell you that I like
[29:16]to wear Gucci and Calvin Klein but you you know so you're
[29:21]gonna wear banana can I argue with you no I can't you're
[29:25]the master I'm the slave suppose I tell you I'd like to
[29:30]sleep on the most comfortable orthopedic mattress but you tell me sorry
[29:33]you're gonna sleep on this table next to the horses can I
[29:38]tell you no you're the master on the slave a slave has
[29:41]no wishes when this person heared this it came like a shock
[29:48]he sat down and started crying people came to us like what's
[29:51]the matter with you are you okay did this slave say something
[29:56]to you he's like no no the slave actually reminded me of
[29:59]what a terrible slave I am to God what a terrible servant
[30:07]I asked my lord this slave says a slave has no wishes
[30:10]I should be a slave of God but look at me God
[30:14]tells me I want you to pray at this time I'm like
[30:18]yeah whatever I pray whatever I want I want you to dress
[30:20]in a particular way I'll forget it I'll dress whatever I want
[30:24]I want you to speak in a particular manner have a particular
[30:27]character and I'd like forget it I want to do whatever I
[30:35]want what a terrible slave I am that's what Allah subhana WA
[30:40]Ta'ala describes as a true servant of God as one whom submits
[30:45]to allah subhanahu wata'ala zakariya submits to allah and hence allah describes
[30:51]him as Abdi he Zecharia his servant Zakaria so during these remaining
[30:57]days of the month of Ramadan my dear brothers and sisters let
[31:00]us really think about this how can I improve myself as a
[31:07]slave of God and in doing so how can I live free
[31:09]by being a slave of God a servant of God I'll do
[31:15]whatever pleases him even though it may not be in line with
[31:22]whatever I like but if he likes it I will do so
[31:23]Zakaria alehissalaam turns to allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala and makes us draw the
[31:29]comity Rebekah a Buddha who and mention the mercy of your Lord
[31:39]upon his servant Zachariah when he is a Korea called his Lord
[31:43]out loud in privacy apparently Zachariah went a place where no one
[31:48]could hear him maybe for example he came to the message or
[31:52]the place of worship nobody was around but he turned to Allah
[31:55]he asked it made a door made a prayer to allah subhanahu
[32:04]wa'ta'ala many of us have needs many of us require some help
[32:08]so when we are in need we turn to allah subhanahu wata'ala
[32:15]there are several papers that talk about the power of prayers and
[32:26]the well-being of individuals those who pray they have a better mental
[32:32]health and physical health compared to those who do not pray people
[32:36]who associate to go with God or pray to God they feel
[32:43]better and there are many reasons behind this in one paper published
[32:48]back in 2007 by someone called lad la dee dee and in
[32:58]a paper that was published back in 2001 by a scholar by
[33:02]the name of Hill this is from Grove City College in Pennsylvania
[33:09]you know listen to this this is what Hill says you know
[33:13]one of the scholars about prayers he says these latter models emphasized
[33:18]the role of religion as a coping mechanism that works through social
[33:24]resources example fellowship psychological mechanisms worthiness and meaning and belief systems the
[33:36]empirical data not only suggests that religion is an important computer contributor
[33:42]to physical and mental health but also support the models linking social
[33:46]support such as the support religious communities provide with positive health outcomes
[33:51]and in the last sentence of this whole paper he says what
[33:58]is clear is that religiousness and spirituality have become important variables in
[34:03]the investigation of what contributes to people's physical and mental health so
[34:08]people who are associated with religion they have a better mental health
[34:15]and physical health that is a conclusion that they come up with
[34:19]the question is why how come there are many reasons one of
[34:22]them they say is the social aspect when you get together look
[34:26]at you right now how you get together you talk to one
[34:29]another you discuss when you meet one another that social aspect brings
[34:33]comfort to somebody it gives one a sense of belonging I remember
[34:39]a few years ago in Edmonton the city where I come from
[34:42]in the month of ramadhan the last Saturday on the month of
[34:46]Ramadan what we used to do is we used to have an
[34:50]open house where we asked individuals to invite non-muslim friends and we
[34:55]would have the park together and I remember one day I was
[34:58]talking to somebody a guest an older fellow maybe he was in
[35:00]his 60s at the time and I asked him so have you
[35:05]ever been to a place of worship he says actually this is
[35:08]my first time coming to a place of worship Islamic worship no
[35:11]first time being in a mosque and I asked him then what
[35:16]do you think you know what's your experience like he says I
[35:19]used to always wonder how do you guys fast so many hours
[35:25]in the month of Ramadan 18 hours 20 hours of fast I
[35:29]was always wondering how do you guys do it but now that
[35:32]I've come here to sit down with you guys and observe you
[35:36]how at the time of a fog you guys sit all together
[35:37]you break your fast together you discuss with one another that social
[35:46]interaction makes complete sense that how is it that you guys can
[35:49]cope with these 30 days of fast these social interactions are so
[35:52]good so important this is according to this sixty plus individual who
[35:57]works as an ark attacked by the way that was his job
[36:02]so it was interesting from an outside perspective about the social aspect
[36:04]another reason people say that religion brings happiness religion brings comfort is
[36:09]the power of prayer when people actually pray to God knowing that
[36:16]there is that deity who is going to answer their prayers here
[36:21]Zachariah alehissalaam the Prophet turns to allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala asking him for
[36:30]a very big favor why is dua sometimes delayed why is the
[36:40]sometimes not answered immediately are there certain doors we can recite to
[36:46]facilitate the acceptance of our prayers what did Prophet Zachariah alehissalaam pray
[36:54]for come back tomorrow and insha'Allah we will answer some of those
[36:58]questions as we discuss there are and the power of the art
[37:07]and the prayer of Zachariah alehissalaam right now we can use the
[37:11]power of the art and raising our hands and asking Allah Subhanahu
[37:16]WA Ta'ala to accept from us insha allah audhu billahi min as
[37:22]shaytan al rajim bismillah al rahman al rahim mo e da da

[39:25]in rahim allah mania a suet al mubarak Adel follow yeah few
[39:46]minutes for questions does anyone here have any question preferably about the
[39:52]lecture but there are some things outside the lecture that were also
[39:56]good so the question is in today's society that we have a
[40:04]lot of temptations so because of social media that internet and so
[40:08]on and so forth so would God be more merciful when he
[40:12]deals with us and is there a way where we can avoid
[40:19]some of these temptations maybe there's some divine intervention right here my
[40:23]sister you know about some some revelation about this has been amazing
[40:28]you know this is like wonderful experience I've had this year of
[40:33]this these couple nights I understand throughout history there has always been
[40:38]temptations you read historical I mean read the Quran Allah subhana WA
[40:45]Ta'ala gives numerous examples and I'll just bring an example of the
[40:50]wife of the Pharaoh those of you who are not familiar with
[40:54]the Quranic revelation of about the wife of the Pharaoh this was
[40:59]a very noble lady a great lady a virtuous lady who believed
[41:01]in the message of musa alayhis salaam and she lived in the
[41:04]house of the pharaoh she lived with him so she lived in
[41:09]that contaminated environment of the pharaoh she's surrounded by the Pharaohs guards
[41:15]the forest environments the Pharaohs etc etc yet that individual who is
[41:19]living in that environment turned out to be so virtuous the hadith
[41:23]says of the prophets of Allah ie well come Wilhemina literally Cathy
[41:28]a woman in this ayah Allah many men have achieved the status
[41:31]of perfection prophets successors of prophets Imams etcetera etc however of the
[41:38]women four of them achieved that great status one of them is
[41:41]the wife of that Pharaoh I see a witness aha so how
[41:46]did she this lady who lived in that polluted environment contaminated environment
[41:53]which was morally corrupt come out to become such a virtuous pious
[41:57]lady so these examples of Quran give to us not just so
[42:04]that we read about them and say masha'Allah that's wonderful but rather
[42:08]these are stories she was an individual who like the rest of
[42:13]us she was a queen so she had all that she wants
[42:20]at her disposal yet she chose to reject it all and believe
[42:23]in the message of moosa' to the point where some traditions say
[42:29]that the Pharaoh then tortured her and even killed her when you
[42:33]take a look at that example okay I understand she did not
[42:37]have social media she didn't have the internet and all that stuff
[42:41]of today but yet she lived in the palace with the corruption
[42:44]so we are living today in a place where corruption is easily
[42:51]accessible and social media being one of them the Internet is another
[42:56]way you're driving on the street and there's a big billboard that
[42:59]may have an inappropriate message a message on the bus you turn
[43:04]on to check your email something pops up right there and so
[43:08]on so forth so all these bombardments of messages with God be
[43:14]more merciful God is always merciful let's just be you know clear
[43:21]about this Allah has always been merciful his mercy does not decrease
[43:26]or increase you know he is the absolute mercy it is us
[43:29]however how we act and through our actions that we sometimes deprive
[43:37]ourselves from his mercy it's not that his mercy has decreased it's
[43:43]just that I've created a layer that blocks and that's my choice
[43:47]otherwise his mercy Allah says was not cool - a has encompassed
[43:51]everything okay so Allah has mercy is always there and if it
[43:56]weren't for God's mercy you would not even be here tonight it's
[43:59]God's mercy that brought you here tonight but you put in the
[44:01]effort you put in the choice you decided that I'm gonna come
[44:05]to the Jose Nia to the mosque and listen to this individual
[44:07]is gonna be telling me about my freedoms that's your choice but
[44:15]Allah sent that mercy upon you so then how do we deal
[44:17]with these temptations well if you feel that social media is going
[44:27]to indeed create a lot of harm in your life well maybe
[44:31]it's time to consider do you really want to have social media
[44:35]in your life or do you want to limit social media in
[44:37]your life do you want to control social media in your life
[44:44]how many in here have Facebook come on it's like instigate there
[44:51]don't worry I'll get there how many here have snapchat you have
[44:57]snapchat Masha Allah may Allah bless you brother how many here have
[45:01]Instagram you have them all Twitter I have Twitter myself you know
[45:11]I raise my hand okay right so they these are great tools
[45:15]but you have to realize that these tools come with a price
[45:21]these tools are great tools if you you know how to use
[45:24]them wisely they could be detrimental I mean the latest news and
[45:27]I'm not sure how familiar are you guys with the news I
[45:30]don't know if like you guys Americans do you even read the
[45:33]news are you like aware of what's happening in the world be
[45:35]right I'm not sure if that happens but in Canada we actually
[45:37]read the news we're aware what's going on in the world around
[45:43]us besides like our country and the states there is something now
[45:47]an uproar about Facebook when it comes to persuasion into elections so
[45:54]what happens is this I was reading about this with something called
[45:59]artificial intelligence or analytics so when you serve the internet everything is
[46:07]being registered what websites do you go to what things do you
[46:12]search when you want to buy something on Amazon what are you
[46:14]buying on Amazon that's all being registered there's actually a big register
[46:18]in the back that's registering everything so then what happens is this
[46:23]suppose I'm a person who is like a security freak I really
[46:27]care about security you know security to me is a maximum I
[46:30]search the internet about security topics I read about security etc etcetera
[46:33]so suppose here I am checking my facebook account and I do
[46:38]not have a Facebook account but I'm just hypothetically speaking I'm taking
[46:41]my Facebook account and an advertisement comes for a mobile phone that
[46:45]has just been released to the market this advertisement what aspect of
[46:50]the mobile phone do you think it will mark it to me
[46:56]security it will say this phone is very secured it has very
[47:02]secure you know high security functions etc etc it will be just
[47:05]an innocent advert but it is tailored made for whatever my preferences
[47:09]are if I'm a person who doesn't care about security rather I
[47:13]look about the cosmetics that same advertisement is going to show up
[47:19]over the phone but guess what what do you think what aspect
[47:21]of it is gonna show cosmetics cuz I like for cosmetics and
[47:24]so on so forth so what's happening the power of the internet
[47:30]right now it's so powerful and it can tailor make the advertisement
[47:34]that suits each and every individual person so therefore when I read
[47:41]this phone and I read the advertisement subconsciously I will be intrigued
[47:47]by this advertisement and towards this phone because it's really speaking my
[47:53]language or whether its cosmetics whether it's security whatever it's apps etc
[47:58]etc etc so now imagine an election has taken place and the
[48:02]things I'm looking for let's say in and then you elect I
[48:08]want someone who will create jobs so guess what a message will
[48:12]be tailor-made that this candidate is going to be better at creating
[48:16]jobs than this candidate so subconsciously where is my mind gonna go
[48:20]if I am worried about security national security well this candidate is
[48:27]better at national security than this candidate so right there and that's
[48:31]what has been now there is a big problem with Facebook globally
[48:33]where the European Union has summoned Michael Zucker you know Zuckerberg they've
[48:38]asked them to come over there because they are worried about the
[48:42]way things are happening with elections they are swaying elections because now
[48:47]the days when you can just make one advertisement that's one-size-fits-all now
[48:53]it's actually each and every person gets his own individual marketing techniques
[48:58]now that's only we're talking about politics and advertisements but sometimes it
[49:03]could be something very serious I mean think about something as simple
[49:06]as changing your marital status I mean if you do that what
[49:11]happens subhanallah amazing stuff doesn't it that's something you guys have noticed
[49:14]about some of these media and social media so realize that this
[49:22]social media sometimes it is not the safest it's it's great great
[49:25]tools but you have to understand how do I deal with them
[49:29]you have to realize that there could be very dangerous tools as
[49:32]well so if I feel that this is gonna cause me some
[49:36]problems then I better then start you know blocking some of this
[49:44]information to the best of my knowledge and my abilities it's okay
[49:48]to live without Facebook it's alright to live without Instagram it's not
[49:54]like you're gonna be living in a cave as long as you
[49:58]know how to manage these tools if you know how to manage
[50:00]them you're fine but if you feel that they're gonna take you
[50:02]more and more away from Allah subhana Allah that's when you really
[50:05]have to start considering do I continue on with these tools or
[50:11]not and the same thing about these tools with fashion about for
[50:14]example the way that you want to think and the way you
[50:18]address and the way you behave and the way you act and
[50:19]and an and ant research shows that continuous pay attention to this
[50:29]because quite interesting communication theorists suggest that continuous exposure to a specific
[50:35]message makes one believe that it is reality so the more that
[50:43]you are bombarded with a specific message that fashion is this way
[50:46]that you have to dress in a particular way that's fashionable you
[50:50]open the internet social media you draw everywhere you're bombarded with this
[50:56]message Allah so I'm gonna subconsciously accept it that in order for
[50:59]me to be fashionable that's how I'm gonna dressing when in fact
[51:04]Quran tells us no if you really want to be in fashion
[51:08]be in line with what Allah says that you have to address
[51:11]and so on so forth so that's really what the world we're
[51:15]living in right now when it comes to all the stuff the
[51:21]first 10 seconds are the most important you are on Instagram on
[51:27]snapchat and something pops up something which is inappropriate your instinct will
[51:34]be like oh this is cool let me see what this is
[51:39]but it's the first 10 seconds where you have to tell yourself
[51:41]no this is not right I shouldn't be doing this and if
[51:47]you can withstand that first 10 seconds that's it you can close
[51:52]that window and you should be able to overcome it you know
[51:55]people who do treadmill anyone here does treadmill runs on the treadmill
[52:00]you know mashallah great you know I'm not one of those people
[52:02]I just don't have the patience for a treadmill I think it's
[52:04]very boring but that's my personal opinion I'd rather run in the
[52:11]wild like you know we actually see real life you know deer
[52:14]and like you know bears and things like this but but treadmill
[52:21]psychologists say it is the first 10 minutes that are the most
[52:26]crucial on a treadmill if you can go over the first red
[52:28]10 minutes you should be good it's usually the first 10 minutes
[52:33]we're like oh I'm tired when is this over you know this
[52:35]is like so boring you know you keep running running running I'm
[52:38]like oh my gosh I've just run like you know two minutes
[52:40]oh gosh that's when you quit that most people quit within the
[52:46]first ten minutes okay once you pass that ten minutes mark then
[52:49]psychologically you start accepting it more and more and it's easier for
[52:51]you to continue on it's the first ten minutes that are the
[52:56]most boring so I know someone who says that's wonderful when I
[52:58]told him this he started actually running for only ten minutes on
[53:01]the treadmill I was like brother this was not the idea there's
[53:03]like mmm that's it ten minutes and then I'm turning it off
[53:09]that's enough exercise for me but anyways it's all about that psychology
[53:13]so if you can learn to resist this temptation for the first
[53:16]ten minutes or ten seconds then you're all good you're all fine
[53:23]so if you feel that all the social media is causing problems
[53:26]then maybe it's time to actually consider all the social media if
[53:30]you feel that you can have the willpower to withhold your temptation
[53:36]for 10 seconds then you should be able to overcome these temptations
[53:40]within the next little while and the third my advice I would
[53:45]have to some of you guys remember what environment are we associating
[53:54]ourselves with if a person listens to the music and I'm talking
[53:58]about how our music surfing the internet watching television cable television I
[54:02]mean I don't know if anyone is interested here to share with
[54:05]me but anyone here watches cable television some of the shows series
[54:12]the general series martial law there's so many of them I don't
[54:14]even know last count Netflix and all that stuff here people watch
[54:19]Netflix and all the series how many how many people watch Netflix
[54:26]watch the series on Netflix okay all right
