[37:44]tonight foreign [Music] we are honored to be hosting brother aliasgar Kimani
[38:53]for the lecture this evening an optometrist by profession and based in
[38:58]South London brother Alaska has become well known around the country for
[39:01]delivering thought-provoking majalis and we are delighted for him to accept our
[39:05]invitation for this evening so Allah foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music]
[40:43]foreign [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign respected Scholars elders I apologize for
[42:04]my lateness and insha Allah I won't keep you too long we
[42:07]are here to commemorate the shahada anniversary of our holy Imam many
[42:20]individuals have a very close connection to you you find when it
[42:25]comes to the Shia Community we have a very interesting connection with
[42:28]the Holy Imam after your Salat when you do the arat you
[42:30]do this Yara of rasulullah down to Imam al-hasan then you'll do
[42:35]the ziara of Imam and then you will go to Imam so
[42:38]after something happened that our elders hadesiara that was specific to the
[42:42]holy Imam and so you see we have a special connection with
[42:46]the atoli Imam there are a number of reasons suggest for this
[42:49]on the first level you find while all of the other buried
[42:53]next to each other or close by each other we have four
[42:56]imams in we have for example imams in Iraq Imam is different
[43:02]in that he is the only one in tus or mashed and
[43:04]that is why he is sometimes known as the most lonely of
[43:08]the Lonely ones because he's far away from all the other weights
[43:10]and so that's why in aziara we make a special ziara towards
[43:15]him and even in the subcontinent countries and even in this country
[43:18]some people when they're doing the ziara they will turn to face
[43:21]Imam or other and do a specific ziara towards him on a
[43:25]second now if you find some say no historically the she the
[43:28]Muslim Community split quite a few times you find after rasulullah became
[43:40]apparent very quickly and as time went on there were a number
[43:45]of schisms apparent in the Muslim Community this was true of the
[43:47]shiai and the other communities I say the other communities because the
[43:50]names we know today did not come until much later it was
[43:54]only a Shira name that was known very early on but many
[43:56]schisms appeared and after every Imam there were certain schisms appearing certain
[44:01]Stacks flowing out for example after Imam Al qasim you had sorry
[44:04]after Emma had a number of excuses you had for example those
[44:09]who would follow his older son Ismail who today are known as
[44:13]the is and you all know there are branches of the ism
[44:16]leaders etc etc you found there were some who were called fatah
[44:23]they followed a different son of Imam Assad known as and then
[44:27]there were those who would follow Imam al-qadim after Imam Al qasim
[44:30]they were further differentiations in the community you found there were those
[44:34]who were called water fights after Imam al-qadim they stopped walketh you
[44:41]know in the Quran stop the work refers for those who stopped
[44:44]after Imam al-qadim they claimed that after Imam al-qaddam they can't be
[44:48]the Imam because imam's complexion was dark-skinned and this is something for
[44:52]us to fund on as well but you found out those who
[44:55]questioned the Imam of Imam and they would question whether he was
[44:58]truly the Imam and so they would stop after Imam al-qadam and
[45:00]they would claim that the next Imam will come after later it
[45:06]transpired who are trying to pocket money in the meantime and then
[45:10]there were those who followed Imam or Veda those who followed Imam
[45:13]usually would become trovis if not actually like we are today because
[45:19]those who followed Imam or whether would end up normally being upon
[45:22]our path the ulama say that we give a special mention towards
[45:24]Imam because by this is another opinion a H others disagree with
[45:37]this they say no there were other sex that did come out
[45:38]afterwards and they simply say that you know Imam has a special
[45:44]gift from Allah you know today where I work there are many
[45:47]Iranians Iranians that the opposite of us Iranians there are dissidents they
[45:52]hate the regime they you know wish that they could go back
[45:56]to their partying Etc these individuals are speaking to one of them
[45:58]he was working with me and he said I I told them
[46:02]you know I was trying to hint I'm sure I wanted to
[46:06]see what he says and he says oh you know we all
[46:09]love Imam he goes yeah whenever I come go to Iran we
[46:11]go from the airport we go to Imam we send Salam and
[46:14]there we go and we will do what we want I said
[46:17]you know do you do so you're religious he goes no no
[46:21]no but he goes if we pay attention we send salaam from
[46:23]a young age our parents would take us we'd seek blessings from
[46:26]the shrine we'd send salaam to Imam and then we go away
[46:29]you find Imam has this certain connection to humans Beyond just the
[46:32]xiaomi community even the Sunni community in Iran pays special attention to
[46:36]us Imam so this Imam is a truly special Imam and so
[46:40]I wanted to concentrate on one of his attributes now there's one
[46:43]attribute of Imam brother that's really interesting before I go on to
[46:45]this other one you know if I was to say which Imam
[46:49]is known as Muhammad which Imam is known as The Scholar of
[46:53]Al Muhammad most people would say either Imam al-bapar or Imam these
[46:57]are the two imams that established a culture of learning and University
[47:01]of learning oh my God you know it might surprise you how
[47:13]is Imam of the eighth holy Imam of Al Muhammad The Scholar
[47:18]of Al Muhammad Imam Assad but what you found was historically if
[47:22]you go to the books history books you will find Imam was
[47:30]the most open in debating other parties did however when you go
[47:34]to even the history of Imam Assad that you will find there
[47:36]are certain times he is telling some of his companions that there
[47:39]are certain things we don't teach to you openly because the regime
[47:43]is against us but they are giving us some Freedom at this
[47:47]time apparent and so his position was very different he could openly
[47:53]debate those who came to him he could openly show them the
[47:58]truth of Islam and so his position was very different he was
[48:00]in the Limelight quite a lot Imam asada was teaching but he
[48:02]wasn't in the Limelight politically Imam was in the Limelight politically so
[48:06]people delegations who used to come wanted to talk to this individual
[48:11]so when you go to the books of History you find the
[48:13]most debates happen with Imam you find for example there's a debate
[48:15]between an atheist and Imam oh he comes to the Imam and
[48:28]he says explain to me where Allah is and how Allah is
[48:30]how his existence is the Imam answered him very beautifully he said
[48:35]that Allah existed before there was anywhere so you cannot ask where
[48:38]Allah is and Allah existed before there was a concept of how
[48:43]so you cannot ask how Allah's existence was said what do you
[48:47]mean this does not sit well with me explain what you mean
[48:51]he says where comes from a concept of time and space there
[48:53]has to be a time and there has to be space before
[48:57]there was any time in space Allah was already existing so you
[48:59]can't ask where he is when he was there beyond that concept
[49:04]of where and the concept of how comes from a concept of
[49:07]limitation and understanding I ask how something is because I can understand
[49:11]its limitations where it came from where it is going to Allah
[49:13]was the one who created all of these house therefore you cannot
[49:18]ask how Allah is he is the creator of how the atheist
[49:21]says oh son of the prophets I don't like this concept Imam
[49:28]says he says how can I worship a God I cannot understand
[49:30]if I can't understand his existence I can't worship Him the Iman
[49:35]replies in the most beautiful way he says the proof of his
[49:37]godship is in the fact you cannot understand him the proof of
[49:41]his godship is in the fact that you cannot understand him for
[49:45]the second you can understand him that means he is no longer
[49:49]good you know Aces today what's their problem their problem most of
[49:51]the time is they can't understand God oh the way we explained
[49:54]God was wrong to them they couldn't understand it they said because
[49:57]I cannot understand it up here I cannot worship it we see
[50:01]the very proof of his godship is that you cannot understand him
[50:04]because the second you understand him what's the difference between you and
[50:07]him he is a limited being like you are a limited being
[50:10]maybe he has more power than you but he still is limited
[50:12]the very proof of his lordship is the fact that he is
[50:17]beyond our understanding and that is why we go into sujood and
[50:18]submit to him we submit wholeheartedly to an to a being who
[50:24]is beyond our understanding this is what Imam Rosa used to teach
[50:28]and you found as well if you go to the history of
[50:31]the Hadith you will find Imam was the one who would explain
[50:33]to us a lot of the biblical teachings find for example somebody
[50:38]will come to Imam Ariza he would quote the Bible to them
[50:40]and one thing he would always make clear to the Christians was
[50:44]that do you recognize your Bible was written 100 and 100 plus
[50:47]years after Jesus it was written by the disciples what's the name
[50:51]of the Gospel Matthew Mark Luke and John you actually see Imam
[50:56]quotes Matthew he gives the Arabic name I think he's Mateo or
[50:59]something but he quotes it Mata Matthew he calls the Bible he
[51:04]calls these gospels but he says don't you recognize these were disciples
[51:07]they wrote it after Jesus what's the difference between your Bible and
[51:11]our hadiths because your your Bible was written after Jesus it could
[51:14]not be a whole economical book it wasn't written down at his
[51:17]time it was written much later and so you find imama Rosa
[51:20]used to explain stuff about the Bible as well the attribute of
[51:23]Imam I wanted to concentrate on today and it's rather fitting that
[51:28]Allah world for me to do this today is the attribute of
[51:31]why he is known as means the one who is satisfied specifically
[51:39]the one who is satisfied with the decree and the destiny of
[51:46]Allah this attribute is a very vital attribute in our lives as
[51:49]well and a vital attribute that was displayed by our holy Imam
[51:56]foreign tranquility is returned back to your lord satisfied with him what
[52:17]is the satisfaction mean it means being satisfied with the decree of
[52:22]Allah being satisfied with whatever Allah has in store for you this
[52:26]is something which if we gain it we will be able to
[52:29]live life of a much more beautiful flavor and you find that
[52:31]this attribute is so important that there is a Hadith of Imam
[52:34]also quoted from Allah my body where they say that Iman has
[52:49]full or Khan full pillars the four pillars of Iman are what
[52:53]number one trusting Allah number two and trusting your Affairs number three
[53:03]submitting to that which Allah wants from us and number four a
[53:11]river being satisfied with the decree of Allah and so we find
[53:14]one of the pillars of Iman you know Iman is different to
[53:21]Islam the famous verse 14 he says the Arabs of the desert
[53:27]say we believe amen now we have Iman you simply say we
[53:40]submit Iman has not yet entered into that heart so which is
[53:43]why are you far from the Hadith means that now you have
[54:06]done the confession and you act upon the confession as well and
[54:10]so somebody with Iman practices the laws of Islam more diligently because
[54:13]he has a higher level of faith in Allah one of the
[54:18]pillars of this Iman is having satisfaction with the decree of Allah
[54:23]and we all know our life is controlled by many different external
[54:28]factors and so it is beneficial to understand what decree is understand
[54:32]the benefit of being satisfied with this decree and how we should
[54:35]interact with this concept so that we can live life in a
[54:38]more peaceful passion peaceful passion if I have your permission please God
[54:46][Music] to understand this concept of river we first have to understand
[54:53]the concept of decree what is decree what is Destiny you know
[54:56]these are Concepts that we throw around a lot in our majalis
[55:00]but we need to understand what is it truly what is decreed
[55:02]and what is not decreed what does it mean when I say
[55:05]that this is the decree of Allah and what different facets does
[55:09]this meet you see on the first level in Islam in Islamic
[55:12]history the concept of Free Will and predestination is probably one of
[55:15]the most questioned things to the Imam and one of the most
[55:19]debated things in Islamic history from the times theological schools are breaking
[55:24]out you had the maturity the more particles you had so many
[55:31]different opinions on Free Will and predestination and so you find us
[55:36]all if you go to the books of history there are letters
[55:41]sent to them asking them about the concept of Free Will and
[55:44]predestination and so you find it is something that grips the human
[55:50]mind am I truly free or do I have the illusion of
[55:52]freedom is things predestined oh did things come just from science or
[55:58]is there any Destiny at all oh are we making this all
[56:02]up and things come from science these questions of gripped human Minds
[56:06]Muslim and non-muslim from pre-eternity hey I'd like to quote you to
[56:10]start this topic of decree I'd like to quote to you from
[56:15]Hadith from the first tradition is narrated to have said decree and
[56:29]Destiny is one of the secrets of Allah it is one of
[56:36]the amulets of Allah it is concealed through the veil of Allah
[56:41]and it is concealed from the minds of the human being decree
[56:46]is one of the secrets of Allah the second Hadith a man
[56:52]comes and he says tell me about predestination tell me about Jabba
[56:58]tell me about it tell me about says it is a deep
[57:04]ocean don't drown in it it is a deep ocean do not
[57:09]drown in it the man says it is a difficult path don't
[57:19]trouble yourself with it you think after twice the man would accept
[57:22]it a third time he says it was one of us you
[57:28]know we like to question a lot when he says since you
[57:32]are insisting then know that I'm rain there is no full predestination
[57:41]no has Allah delegated to us free will rather the matter is
[57:44]between the two matters as you all famously know in the famous
[57:46]Hadith foreign [Music] why do I start with these Traditions you know
[57:59]I've been saying we should understand decreed and I tell you the
[58:01]decree is the secret of Allah says don't trouble yourself with it
[58:06]don't drown in this ocean it's the firstly outline that we are
[58:09]going into this topic to understand it so that we can benefit
[58:13]in our lives but we have to understand our limitations in this
[58:16]topic we have to understand our limitations in this topic you know
[58:20]many of the holama they have this this disagreement with philosophy they
[58:24]say stay clear of philosophy what they really mean is what we're
[58:28]going to say here when it comes to predestination there are times
[58:33]in predestination you cannot understand Allah's decree and Destiny but at the
[58:37]end of the day these are the mindsets and the decisions of
[58:42]Allah who we as human beings to understand the mindset of Allah
[58:44]you know this is why I gave that tradition of Imam his
[58:48]godship lies in the fact that he is beyond us he is
[58:49]beyond our understanding when it comes to decree and Destiny all we
[58:53]can understand is what the Quran says and what the Hadith say
[58:57]ology and philosophy what's the difference theology means you start from a
[59:03]basic understanding I've been told that there is no God but Allah
[59:07]now I understand everything with this Foundation that's theology philosophy starts with
[59:14]what philosophy says I have no basic Point let me question everything
[59:17]this is what the Allah must say be careful of in philosophy
[59:23]you can question a predestination to No Limit why did this happen
[59:26]why did Allah do it like this why did Allah create this
[59:30]why did Allah create anything why did he need anything did he
[59:32]need it did he not need it if he didn't need it
[59:36]why did he create it etc etc etc when you get tied
[59:37]up in these questions says don't drown in that ocean I know
[59:43]people who have become atheists because of the question of predestination why
[59:48]because they questioned it too much there is a limit to our
[59:52]understanding here and I start by stressing that because we're going to
[59:54]try to understand this topic to our understanding but we should understand
[59:58]that this is not a topic to necessarily delve into in too
[60:02]much detail it's a topic for one modulus you go home you
[60:05]benefit and you carry on with your life established that let's move
[60:10]on we've understood that the predestination is a difficult topic we're going
[60:15]to delve into it briefly using the Hadith of these but we
[60:17]cannot over delve in it now we move forward we understand this
[60:21]concept of Wheels there is no full free will nor is there
[60:26]full predestination now a simple mindset you know many of the theological
[60:30]schools at the time of immunity says there should be full predestination
[60:35]Allah is powerful over everything Allah is the one who knows Allah
[60:46]is the one who knows even when a leaf falls onto the
[60:50]ground he does not fall except with the knowledge of Allah so
[60:52]how are you telling me that we have any free will rather
[60:57]everything should be predestined as you know we gave many answers as
[60:59]to why we cannot have everything predestined number one if everything is
[61:04]predestined then what's all this concept of Heaven and Hell if everything
[61:07]is predestined then Allah has done everything why is he punishing me
[61:10]for that which he did then why is he rewarding me for
[61:13]that what she did everything is predestined the fact that there is
[61:16]a heaven and a hell means that everything cannot be predestined number
[61:19]two beautifully proven and I know people like stories so we'll give
[61:24]you the Hadith one day he was walking around telling everybody everything
[61:28]is predestined but took a piece of clay and threw it at
[61:33]the head of Abu hanifa to the court the Hakim said what
[61:39]do you have to say a piece of clay at my head
[61:45]I want you to give me a retribution Hakim said did you
[61:51]throw the piece of clay at his head no I didn't how
[61:54]come said then who did it he said Allah did it he
[61:58]Abu hanifa teaches that all everything is predestined by Allah so when
[62:02]I took that clay and I threw it at the head of
[62:05]Abu hanifa it wasn't me it was Allah we know that this
[62:10]is nonsense we know that there has to be a justice system
[62:14]a concept of justice and this in itself is proof that everything
[62:16]cannot be predestined by Allah at the same time there is no
[62:21]tough wheel not tough week doesn't mean Free Will means delegation so
[62:26]the Imam is teaching you free will as a gift from Allah
[62:30]but he has not given you the entirety of this gift delegation
[62:34]Allah has not fully delegated to us the freedom to do anything
[62:40]that we want right and this was something that was pushed by
[62:42]the Tesla at school if I'm not mistaken we cannot be fully
[62:46]free and the imams and they were asked about this they said
[62:48]if we are fully free to do what we want by that
[62:52]you are implying that Allah cannot stop me from doing what I
[62:55]want that is questioning the power of Allah we cannot question Allah's
[63:01]power if Allah wants to stop me in my church today can
[63:04]he of course he can Allah therefore we understand tough with there
[63:10]is no filter with free will is a gift from Allah in
[63:15]fact rather you understand it like this Allah predestined in his system
[63:19]of the universe that there would be partial Free Will for the
[63:25]human being Allah predestined that mankind will have a form of Free
[63:29]Will so that there is a concept of a test an a
[63:32]judgment and so free will is part of the will of Allah
[63:34]Free Will is only there from the permission of Allah now you
[63:40]understand Free Will as an Amana from Allah when you choose what
[63:44]to do in your life that choice is a gift from Allah
[63:47]Allah could have made you all puppets and made you do what
[63:51]he wanted he could have pulled you by strings he could have
[63:52]got angels to be oh over you rather Allah gave you freedom
[63:57]and that freedom is the greatest gift in our lives you know
[64:00]just in Boston since I'm here and since this story has come
[64:05]to my head there's a famous psychologist known as um Auschwitz the
[64:09]Austrian psychologist a psychiatrist he was locked up in the concentration comes
[64:13]by the Nazi Germany he was in the concentration camps locked away
[64:17]away from his wife away from his children away from his mother
[64:22]and you know in the concentration camps they shaved you bold and
[64:24]made you over the same clothes so you're in this depressing Place
[64:27]locked away now Victor it's being this psychiatrist he couldn't help but
[64:31]question what was going on and he said he's written books you
[64:36]couldn't go and read them he's very famous he said then the
[64:38]concentration comes there were two forms of people there was one person
[64:43]who basically had given up on life you know life is finished
[64:45]I just wait to die and he said there were other people
[64:49]that for some reason had hope they were thinking about what to
[64:52]do when they get out of the concentration camps Victorious got confused
[64:55]he said why why are they so different so he went to
[65:01]those people who had hope and he asked them questions he questioned
[65:05]questions on them and he realized that there were a few beliefs
[65:08]that they had that meant that they still had hope number one
[65:12]they had faith in a higher power because they had faith in
[65:16]a higher power even though they were locked away by Nazi Germany
[65:20]completely stripped away from their family members completely isolated in this concentration
[65:26]can't mean to do what they want to do even then because
[65:28]of their faith they still had hope that they might come out
[65:31]and have to live a life again number two he said that
[65:34]they had a feeling of freedom what does this mean he said
[65:39]I asked them they said that they felt free he said how
[65:41]do you feel free you know the Concentration Camp you can't do
[65:44]what you want they're watching you 24 7.
[65:46]they make you do what they want they said we still have
[65:50]the freedom to think and disagree with them that feeling of Freedom
[65:53]gives us hope that one day maybe we will have the freedom
[65:55]to do other things again so the belief in Freedom and Free
[66:00]Will is actually empowering for the human being but this is a
[66:04]responsibility on the human being you're free use that Free Will towards
[66:07]doing the good that Allah wanted you to do don't misuse your
[66:10]free will in doing evil against Allah and so we have the
[66:15]concept of Free Will and it's beautifully explained the balance between predestination
[66:19]and Free Will I think can be beautifully explained by this one
[66:22]so of the scenario there's a scenario of the school exam many
[66:25]of our children here will go to school exams especially as you
[66:30]grow older when you go to an exam do you choose where
[66:32]you take the exam or does the school choose School chooses you're
[66:35]going to take it in this whole you're going to take it
[66:39]in this classroom when you go to the exam do you choose
[66:40]what topic you're going to do in that exam or does is
[66:44]the topic chosen for you it's true when you go into the
[66:47]exam Hall do you choose where you sit or do they choose
[66:49]where you sit in the more you know as you get older
[66:53]the exams become more professional they choose where you said they say
[66:55]you will sit at this table you will sit at this table
[66:59]Etc when you go to do the exam paper do you choose
[67:01]what questions come up or do they choose the questions for you
[67:05]they choose the questions for you when you sat at the exam
[67:07]table you open the test paper do they choose how you answer
[67:12]the questions or do you choose how to answer the questions you
[67:14]choose in the same way life is a test Allah has decreed
[67:20]many factors for us he has decreed when which era will be
[67:22]born in which family we are born into which society we are
[67:26]born into which tests we go through in our life our Free
[67:28]Will is to see how we respond to the tests of life
[67:32]so everything around us the circumstances are predestined rather we have the
[67:38]free will to see how we will answer those tests of Life
[67:42]Now we move a step forward I hope the discussion is not
[67:45]becoming too heavy as we move a step forward do you want
[67:48]to understand free will a bit more predestination a bit more decree
[67:51]a little bit more here there are the beautiful Hadith from Imam
[67:55]al-bakur Allah now it's explaining the same Concepts there is no full
[68:07]predestination or free will it's in between the two but somebody comes
[68:10]to Imam al-batter and asks him to explain it and he explains
[68:12]it differently the Imam says to him put one leg in the
[68:20]air the companion puts one leg in the air the arms is
[68:21]very well put the other leg in the air the man says
[68:25]I can't if I put both legs in the air I'll fall
[68:28]down the yamam says this is the balance between Free Will and
[68:30]predestination some things are in your will some things are decreed by
[68:34]Allah now when you look at this tradition the flavor is different
[68:39]you know before when you think of decree we think Allah has
[68:42]decreed where I was born which era I was born in etc
[68:46]etc etc this Hadith is different this Hadith the predestination or the
[68:51]decree in this Hadith is different the decree in this Hadith is
[68:54]referring to the scientific reality of the world the reason the reason
[69:00]you can't put both legs in the air is why because there
[69:03]is a system on this world called gravity which means that you
[69:05]can't just levitate in air you have to stay firmly on the
[69:07]ground this is what we call scientific decree scientific decree for example
[69:15]biologically we are wired a certain way if for example somebody comes
[69:22]he gets a knife and he cuts my hand is my hand
[69:24]going to bleed yes because Allah has created those on this universe
[69:29]this is biological decree the atheists go a step further they say
[69:35]the psychological decree atheists by the way don't believe in free will
[69:39]they believe what everything is scientific therefore everything is decreed scientifically decreed
[69:45]Mother Nature the Creator for us biologically we're determined because we have
[69:50]chemicals we are chemically you know organized we have neurotransmitters depending on
[69:55]our biology we will act you know this is why they say
[69:59]certain inclinations they're there from birth why do you question a person
[70:02]they say we are biologically predetermined then they say we're psychologically predetermined
[70:07]you know it is a famous studies from Pavlov and BF Skinner
[70:10]Etc where for example you know you get a dog you put
[70:14]food in front of him he pants you get a dog you
[70:16]put food in front of him you then ring a bell I
[70:18]need pants you then get a dog you take the food away
[70:21]and you then ring the bell because of the association between the
[70:24]Bell and the food what does the dog do he pants human
[70:27]beings are the same we're psychologically predetermined we're psychologically wired in fact
[70:32]no he goes a step further BF Skinner he says we're psychologically
[70:35]predetermined and it's complex to understand but that doesn't mean it's wrong
[70:39]from a young age we have a concept of feedback and we
[70:43]are acting on that feedback when we do something and somebody gets
[70:47]happy with us we get positive feedback so we continue doing it
[70:52]we do something and we feel good we get positive feedback so
[70:55]we continue doing it we do something our parents shouts at us
[70:58]negative feedback we stop doing it we do something people look down
[71:04]upon us our friends stop talking to us you see actually human
[71:09]beings are biologically and psychologically predetermined we have a biological makeup that's
[71:14]impacting us and we have a psychological makeup that's impacting us the
[71:18]complexity is hard but that doesn't mean it's not true according to
[71:23]the atheists they say we are decreed these two there's some truth
[71:25]to them that's why we discipline our children right we're not sure
[71:29]to do something good we say I have a baby so we
[71:31]clap for them you know I'm going to do something bad we
[71:35]tell them no it's bad it's a bad thing to do we
[71:37]psychologically we psychologically help them we try to give them feedback so
[71:41]that they stop doing certain things islamically we still have free will
[71:46]why because above the matter of this body there was a soul
[71:49]that is not determined by these scientific factors therefore on a hot
[71:52]day when you're if it's you know Maghrib is nine o'clock it's
[71:56]a hot day and if dollar time is coming sooner you might
[71:59]say I have you know I'm I'm going to get angry more
[72:04]easily Islam says no you have a soul who control that temper
[72:07]on a hot day when you're angry or when something is pushing
[72:10]at you you will feel like getting angry more easily and then
[72:13]later on you'll say I was hot and I was I was
[72:16]tired I was hungry you know you're not so you're not yourself
[72:19]and you're hungry but Islam says no you have a soul control
[72:22]that inclination control that decree here has a different flavor scientifically there
[72:30]are certain things Allah has created for us in this system we
[72:34]have to interact with the system understand how much free will we
[72:39]have and understand what is decreed for us then we can understand
[72:42]how best to use offering understand this point here and this point
[72:46]affects us in different ways you know some people are born with
[72:49]an illness they're born with an illness no fault of their own
[72:54]they don't choose to have an illness they were born with it
[72:58]here did Allah give that person the illness you know it's a
[73:02]very hard question because if you say yes then all you can
[73:06]say is a test from Allah say wait answer it differently that
[73:10]illness came from a scientific decree a scientific reality you know two
[73:15]dominant genes came together or two recessive genes came together they got
[73:20]this illness so the reason they have this illness is because of
[73:22]the laws of the of the world the laws of science Allah
[73:26]chose which Soul goes into which body so Allah chose this test
[73:31]for that person but Allah doesn't give that person the illness can
[73:34]you see the difference on one level I can say Allah chose
[73:38]you to have autism so he treats your chromosomes he treats you
[73:40]he gave you mutations and said you autism You Down syndrome you
[73:44]this but that doesn't make sense so why does Allah do that
[73:47]rather illnesses are a scientific decree when we understand this now we
[73:53]understand we have to be the full researchers of the scientific decree
[73:56]that is why the students or the pioneers of science or the
[74:01]students foreign they wanted to understand the system of this world how
[74:10]it works so that they can bring things back towards the way
[74:14]Allah wanted them to be cancer why is it caused it's a
[74:17]scientific reason Allah created the laws we misused the laws and created
[74:23]all of these illnesses Allah created the laws we misuse these laws
[74:28]but Allah chooses which Soul goes into which body and so he
[74:31]knows which Soul can take which test like you can live Allah
[74:37]and so after our individuals that you know that are born of
[74:41]such an illnesses this is the way to understand these things understand
[74:44]them from the fact that scientifically something has gone wrong here but
[74:48]Allah knows we are the people that take on this test this
[74:52]gives you hope this gives you strength and power if you're going
[74:54]through a difficult time and you for example you know if a
[74:58]child with an illness is born and a family is difficult for
[75:02]the family what keeps them going that faith that Allah has chosen
[75:05]them for this test and has felt they are worthy of not
[75:10]just taking this test they are worthy of passing this test and
[75:13]helping others pass this test as well and so when we understand
[75:17]decree like this now decree has a completely different flavor now the
[75:21]scientific laws of this universe are part of the decree of Allah
[75:24]we have to work to understand these decrees and we have to
[75:27]work to not just understand these decrees but understand how to try
[75:31]and rectify these things this is what Allah wanted us to do
[75:34]you know we say about the Imam of time God Christian he
[75:49]is going to fill the world with equity and justice when we
[75:55]think of equity and Justice we only think of things like you
[75:58]know Court Lord there's going to be no people murdering Etc this
[76:01]is one aspect in science the Imam is going to teach us
[76:05]where we're going wrong and how to bring it back towards equilibrium
[76:07]how to get rid of illnesses how to cure cancer the amounts
[76:13]of community like this that understands the world and understands how to
[76:17]bring it back towards the law that Allah decreed for it to
[76:20]happen because of our misuse the world is the way it is
[76:22]today 30 40 year olds cancer is on the rise because of
[76:26]the way we are doing it mental health issues are on the
[76:29]rise from a young age why because of something we're doing it's
[76:33]something human beings are doing it's not Allah Allah made the laws
[76:37]we are messing around with these laws so this is the first
[76:40]aspect of decree scientific decree the second aspect of decree as we
[76:47]all know is the decree of Allah deciding the circumstances of our
[76:50]life deciding how much risk we are going to have deciding what
[76:53]sort of tests we're going to go through in life deciding which
[76:56]Community we are born into here being satisfied with the decree of
[77:00]Allah means means what being satisfied with all of these factors number
[77:05]one being satisfied with what area you're born into in which family
[77:09]you're born into you know there are some people that wish they
[77:12]were born into a richer family or some people that wish they
[77:15]were born into a different Community or some people that wish that
[77:18]they were born into a different Society no be thankful you are
[77:22]born into the family you were born into be satisfied rather not
[77:27]thankful River satisfied understand that Allah knows that which was best for
[77:33]you and he choose the best possible circumstances for you in your
[77:36]life there are many people out there they come from a family
[77:40]which is struggling sometimes they'll see people who are mobile season them
[77:43]you know their family themselves are struggling their friends have big houses
[77:46]their friends you know Drive big cars well they came from a
[77:51]family or a livelihood which was less hey they start to struggle
[77:54]they start to say you know why couldn't I be born into
[77:56]a rich family or why can't I get rich as well be
[78:00]satisfied with the decree of Allah when you're satisfied with the decree
[78:07]of Allah on the first level it is you have to be
[78:10]satisfied the decree of Allah because when you're not it gives rise
[78:14]to moral degradation for example we find in the mama about being
[78:28]satisfied with the decree of Allah he says do not test me
[78:41]with that which you have given to other people and do not
[78:47]test other people without which you have given to me foreign because
[78:53]then I would start to have jealousy of other individuals and then
[78:59]I would start to hate your decrees and your decisions two moral
[79:03]diseases that come out of not being satisfied with the decree of
[79:08]Allah when you're not satisfied with the amount of risk you have
[79:10]in your life or you're not satisfied with the circumstances Allah has
[79:13]given to you in your life the two things that gives rise
[79:16]to is number one jealousy and as you know jealousy Burns that
[79:20]the faith of a Believer like fire burns would according to the
[79:23]famous Hadith a jealous individual cannot live in peace he cannot sleep
[79:27]in peace he cannot interact with people in peace he is always
[79:32]edgy because he always seems to want other what other people have
[79:34]when you're satisfied with that which you have um when he says
[79:39]this is the greatest this is the greatest wealth because then you
[79:42]can live in peace but on the second level the Imam says
[79:45]when you're not satisfied with the decree of Allah what you are
[79:47]actually doing is you're not just angry at your situation you're angry
[79:51]or you're you're hating Allah who chose for you this this situation
[79:56]who you transfer you the circumstance Allah when you are not happy
[80:02]with your circumstances this shows a weakness in your belief in Allah
[80:05]we go back to the thoughts one of the arkhan of Iman
[80:11]is if you do not have Riddler in your circumstances in life
[80:14]it's not that you're not happy with your life you're not happy
[80:20]with Allah there's an issue with your connection with Allah this is
[80:24]a huge moral problem something that will stop you from progressing in
[80:26]life and progressing towards Jannah insha Allah and so we have to
[80:32]be satisfied with our lot in life satisfied with the circumstances we
[80:35]come through that's the first level second level certain circumstances causes to
[80:40]become very agitated and annoyed for example you're on a journey and
[80:46]you break down on the military all of you have gone through
[80:48]it before you break down on the military there's an accident in
[80:50]front of you and the traffic is not moving you're stuck for
[80:52]three four or five hours you can't get to where you want
[80:55]at this time in life this is a test Allah has decreed
[80:59]for you the circumstance did you have control over it no no
[81:04]when you recognize this there's two ways to respond to this situation
[81:08]one is to be angry at the situation and get agitated complain
[81:12]why is this happening to me why is this happening what can
[81:16]I do I can't get to my destination this etc etc the
[81:21]other way is to respond in what way with a smile I
[81:24]can't control the situation let's make the best out of this situation
[81:27]let's see maybe Allah was saving me from something which was worse
[81:33]for me you know sometimes you have an act there's an accident
[81:35]on the motorway and you're broken for three four hours and you
[81:38]get agitated and angry and you think why couldn't I get home
[81:41]in time if you go home in time something bad would have
[81:43]happened to you sometimes Allah protects you in those ways but on
[81:46]the second level maybe Allah wanted to teach you a certain lesson
[81:50]with those circumstances sometimes Allah put you in certain situations to teach
[81:55]you a valuable life lesson and had you not gone through that
[81:58]circumstance you would have never understood that lesson in life sometimes you'll
[82:02]think back to times in life mistakes that you've made or not
[82:05]mistakes that you mean things that happen that stop you from being
[82:09]able to progress you are about to get permission and a company
[82:12]and something happened and stopped you in your tracks why you're Allah
[82:18]I did everything right I did I tried hard etc etc Allah
[82:23]wanted to teach you a life lesson you could never have learned
[82:28]otherwise and so when it comes to the circumstances in your life
[82:32]because Allah's decree you know they say there's two concepts you can
[82:37]have sabbah or you can have a river saber means to persevere
[82:43]I think I give a lecture hey many some time ago about
[82:45]sabbar and perseverance not patience but perseverance you can persevere but persevering
[82:51]means to persevere while you find it very difficult means for example
[82:56]you have an accident on the motor but you're broken down your
[82:58]baby's crying and you're thinking what to do and you start to
[83:03]become agitated but rather than lashing out getting angry getting annoyed you
[83:06]swallow it and you start to do something that's supper persevering fighting
[83:10]that's all river is that same situation but you face it with
[83:14]a smile on your face same situation saying circumstance same difficulty but
[83:21]rather than persevering and fighting the self the self is satisfied out
[83:24]of my control must be Allah's lesson let's see what life has
[83:28]to teach us today you know to explain this let me bring
[83:35]you to let me just come out of them suffer let me
[83:38]bring you back towards Allah mama two situations and teaches us this
[83:53]concept of being satisfied at the decree of Allah the first one
[83:56]without going into muscle Imam Al Hussain is standing on the Hopkins
[84:01]and he's holding his six-month-old baby let's take you with the context
[84:08]of this lecture he's had a whole day it's a hot day
[84:10]he's on the desert sons of karbala he's 57 years old so
[84:13]he's not young he's going back and forth multiple times carrying dead
[84:17]bodies and he's holding his six-month-old baby who is completely thirsty biologically
[84:23]biologically where should this individual's mind be look at him and how
[84:27]he's able to control himself where should his mind be if you
[84:32]take the atheist Paradigm of psychological and biological decree Imam Al Hussain
[84:36]has a body at that time is probably Dead Tired psychologically at
[84:40]that time is probably completely weakened they shoot a three-pronged arrow into
[84:45]the neck of that baby but yet when he goes back what
[84:50]does he say he walks back and forth seven times saying he
[84:54]is unbelievable unbelievable his six-month-old baby just been killed in his arms
[85:05]but yet he was able to say I am satisfied with the
[85:10]decree of Allah you know in another narration he says it is
[85:15]reported he said at this time Allah [Music] that which makes this
[85:22]easier for me is to know that Allah is what you know
[85:25]in our trials our hard times if we know that Allah is
[85:28]watching we say Allah why me yeah Allah why did you do
[85:33]this to me says the fact that Allah is watching gives this
[85:36]gives me strength at this time because if Allah is watching I
[85:40]know that there must be some what is happening here the second
[85:46]instance Imam Al Hussain is leaving Makkah early to go towards kufa
[85:50]he on the way he meets the famous poet named farazda who
[85:52]is taking his elderly mother towards Hajj it means for us they
[85:59]have a conversation he says oh foreign is why he says their
[86:07]hearts are with you or their swords are against you even that
[86:10]that line could have a whole electron at their hearts are with
[86:15]you but their swords are against you the Imam says very well
[86:18]he's about to proceed on his journey and for us that says
[86:20]only Imam I fear for you on this journey don't go on
[86:24]this journey don't go to kufa go somewhere else the Imam says
[86:29]Allah has made his will and his decree clay Allah made over
[86:35]thousands of people right let us say Imam Al Hussain and kuffa
[86:38]at that time what does he have to do you know if
[86:41]you have two thousand letters from one place you have to answer
[86:43]the call you can't say no I'm going towards kufa if the
[86:51]decree of Allah is not in our favor no sorry if the
[86:57]decree of Allah is in our favor we will thank Allah if
[87:01]the decree of Allah is not in our favor meaning we go
[87:06]to kufa and they turn against me then as for the one
[87:11]who is has a sincerely and he does good that he never
[87:13]loses anything in the eyes of Allah in circumstances in life which
[87:19]are difficult you know sometimes we fear you know losing something we
[87:24]fear that something bad is going to happen as long as we
[87:28]are trying our best and our intentions are sincere we are never
[87:31]going to use anything in our life the decree of Allah might
[87:36]go against you things might seem difficult for you you know sometimes
[87:38]in your families you'll have troubles and trials and situations and you'll
[87:42]be wondering how to get out of those situations you'll be trying
[87:45]your best you'll get out of one trial another trial will come
[87:48]you'll sort one mess out another mess will appear it'll be like
[87:52]what do I do teaches you all you have to do is
[87:57]do that which is right in the eyes of Allah and then
[87:58]as for this person he will never lose anything in the eyes
[88:02]of Allah you know sometimes in these situations in life these difficult
[88:05]situations we cave in let's say for example unemployed one year two
[88:10]years three years things are difficult a job interview comes there's alcohol
[88:17]on the table teaches us never sit at a tableware alcohol is
[88:22]served hence it is Haram are these sorts of situations sometimes we
[88:26]we cave in we're like I'll come to this interview it's all
[88:31]promising but there's alcohol at the table what do I do the
[88:34]Imam says follow what Allah wants you to do even if it
[88:38]is against your favor in the eyes of Allah you've lost nothing
[88:42]in the eyes of Allah you've lost nothing trust me even if
[88:47]you lose that job another better job will come after it all
[88:50]you have to do is do that which was best in the
[88:53]eyes of Allah you know at this time you go for that
[88:56]interview you've been employed for unemployed for a long time you go
[88:57]to the interview you see on that table and you recognize they're
[88:59]bringing alcohol to the table in your mind there's so many things
[89:03]going through your head I have a job for so long this
[89:06]one seems promising they want to give me the job but there's
[89:08]Haram at the table there's Haram at the table Yuma in your
[89:11]mind saying why I finally got a job that looked promising and
[89:16]this person brought alcohol to the table why couldn't you make that
[89:20]person drink later these are Allah signs to you this is why
[89:25]Allah puts you in these situations to test how much belief in
[89:27]Japan do you have in Allah when you're going through the difficulties
[89:33]of life these random situations in life remember to have a real
[89:37]law of Allah and if you want to do ah there is
[89:40]no better Dua than the end section I am foreign at the
[90:01]end of this there's one paragraph you know like the the conclusion
[90:05]and the Imam says this and it's such a beautiful secrets the
[90:09]Imam says oh Allah give to me Iman that completely encapsulates my
[90:17]heart and a true and certain to the extent until I recognize
[90:33]that nothing touches me except that which you had would and make
[90:40]me satisfied with the Lord you have given to me in my
[90:46]life oh the one who is the most merciful Optimus all the
[90:52]circumstances that I don't have control over in my life everything that
[90:55]comes to me you know I say you know decree is that
[90:59]which you don't have control over you know just quickly sometimes in
[91:02]your life you'll have circumstances that are very unfavorable but you close
[91:06]them you've lied once then to hide that lie you've lied again
[91:11]and to hide Allah you've had you replied again and you're stuck
[91:13]in the circle of lying and you think why well that's your
[91:15]fault that's not the decree is still there because Allah decreed if
[91:19]you're going to do that you're going to suffer but that's not
[91:21]Allah decreeing something for you decree is when you had no control
[91:26]over it and it came to you and in that situation you
[91:30]have to use your free will to answer that situation in the
[91:32]best way possible which is why Imam Al Hussain statement is so
[91:35]beautiful as for the one who has a sincere and does good
[91:39]deeds in the eyes of Allah he will never lose anything no
[91:42]matter how unfavorable life becomes and so when we understand this concept
[91:46]of the decree of Allah and being satisfied with Allah's decree when
[91:52]you are able to do this the Imam say you will never
[91:54]have grief in your life you will never have children in your
[91:56]life you will never have worry in your life for anxiety as
[91:59]in you'll get the the standard anxiety of a human being you
[92:03]know the anxiety that Spurs you into action that's good but you
[92:06]won't get anxious in a way that holds you back or you
[92:10]won't have grief in a way that affects your mental well-being because
[92:12]you have that yet in the decree of Allah that satisfaction with
[92:18]the decree of Allah and that allows you to keep going even
[92:20]in the most difficult of circumstances foreign because he was very lonely
[92:31]in his life you know especially when Imam many people know I
[92:36]hope you know he Imam al-jawad was born after many years in
[92:40]his life was born when he was about 40 or 50.
[92:44]it was his only son and he you know some people questioned
[92:46]Imam al-jawad's mother as well because of how dark complexion he was
[92:50]you know Imam obviously was already dark because his mother and grandmother
[92:53]were both from North Africa and his son was even darker and
[92:57]people questioned him because of how dark he was imagine at the
[93:00]age of 40 or 50 you have your first son then all
[93:04]of a sudden Moon makes you apparent and takes you parades you
[93:06]from City to City you know it kind of shows off this
[93:10]is my error apparent imama Rosa was taken from Medina towards Iraq
[93:13]towards Iran taken towards you know loneliness loneliness is not when there's
[93:22]no one around you loneliness is a state of mind when you
[93:25]have no one you know around you was lonely for this reason
[93:29]he was surrounded by a moon and his people he was traveling
[93:33]with them day and night being taken with them everywhere in lands
[93:37]where there was no one of his family members about this situation
[93:46]did he become agitated about his situation never did he become upset
[93:51]about his situation and that is why he was known as until
[93:57]the time came when Moon realized that imam's influence on the people
[94:03]was too strong and it was not something he could use to
[94:06]his favor and now he started to plot on how to to
[94:08]get rid of this issue in his life and the narration say
[94:13]in in Tools in mashed Moon decided that he needed to get
[94:19]rid of Imam and so he told his people to bring him
[94:21]some pomegranates and some grapes and he injected poison into these grapes
[94:25]the next morning he would go to Imam and he would say
[94:29]I have never tasted grapes better than these grapes please try one
[94:35]Imam says I'm sure there are nice grapes in your garden as
[94:38]well my moon says no no these grapes are the best of
[94:42]grapes you have to taste these grapes according to the narrations Imam
[94:45]he reluctantly takes one of these grapes he puts it into his
[94:48]mouth and immediately he feels a weakness from here and he says
[94:53]what you have decided to do is now going to come to
[94:55]fruition the narration say that night itself Imam oroza goes home and
[95:00]he is with a companion named he says he has done what
[95:05]he has done and now my situation is as you see abhi
[95:10]assault says oh Imam why are you so pale why do you
[95:11]look so weak why is it that you are struggling to stand
[95:15]and why is it that you cannot stand up Imam says my
[95:18]moon has given me the poison The Grapes now I can feel
[95:24]the poison ripping at the organs of my body I am becoming
[95:26]extremely weak the narrations say Imam was in this situation for one
[95:32]entire night where he was moving from side to side feeding the
[95:34]effects of poison onto his body until the narration say he passes
[95:38]away the next day the narration same Moon hid the body of
[95:43]Imam for an entire day he did not allow people to know
[95:45]what had happened because he feared how people would respond to the
[95:49]fact that this has happened and he may have done something so
[95:52]he hides the death for one night and one day until the
[95:56]family come and they all and they find that he is dead
[96:00]and his body is lying in the courtyard of his house not
[96:02]even on the bed of his house and the coach out of
[96:06]our land he is his body lied but oh imama River while
[96:10]you were a lonely Stranger in tools while your body lied without
[96:13]caffeine and without being buried for one day I ask you to
[96:17]come towards you are a stranger in the land of twos come
[96:20]and see Imam Allah Hussain as a stranger in the land of
[96:26]karbala where he stands there and he calls out Allah is there
[96:35]anyone to help us is there anyone to support us whether your
[96:42]body light day without a Russell and a coffin for one day
[96:44]but Imam Allah hussain's body lied on the plains of karabala for
[96:47]three days and how did it Imam had a very soft spot
[96:52]for Imam Hussain he would say if you are going to cry
[96:58]over anything then cry over my grandfather Hussein for surely he was
[97:01]slaughtered in a way worse than animals how was he saluted worse
[97:04]than animals Generations one day was going past a butcher he would
[97:11]say oh butcher when you're about to salute this animal can I
[97:13]ask you some questions he says he says before slaughtering this animal
[97:18]did you give it some water he says your grandfather taught us
[97:23]as a Sunnah that before we Slaughter an animal we should feed
[97:25]it some water he looks towards karbala and says oh my father
[97:31]they saluted you while you were thirsty he said can I ask
[97:34]you another question are you slaughtering this this this this animal in
[97:37]front of its family members the butcher said no you have no
[97:40]rasulullah your grandfather taught us never to butcher an animal in front
[97:46]of its family members because those other animals will find it difficult
[97:49]he looks towards karabala and he says oh my father they salute
[97:52]you in front well in front of your family members was saying
[97:55]was looking on he then says oh butcher can I ask you

[98:07]a sharp knife your grandfather taught us it makes the death easier
[98:10]upon the animal he looks towards karabala and says oh my father
