[1:20]the greatest fears of the human being is the fear of death

[1:23]the day that we finally depart and leave this world and not

[1:29]only not only are we afraid of death but we're also afraid

[1:34]of dead people imagine you are walking in a busy crowded street

[1:39]it's filled with hundreds of people is there anything frightening about this

[1:45]no it's a peaceful scenario now imagine that suddenly everyone drops dead

[1:52]and all the sudden you're walking besides death dead corpse dead corpses

[1:57]and dead human beings now all the sudden this scene turns into

[2:03]a scene of a horror movie it's so frightening and scary even

[2:08]though few moments before these human beings when they were alive there

[2:14]was nothing scary or frightening about them but only because they died

[2:18]now I fear them and this is very ironic about the human

[2:22]being that he does not fear usually living human beings but once

[2:31]that peaceful living human being dies and now he cannot harm him

[2:33]when he was alive he could have harmed me but now that

[2:37]he's dead and absolutely there's no way he can harm me harm

[2:39]me because there's no life in him now I begin to fear

[2:43]Him there's nothing to fear this is because of our severe and

[2:47]extra fear of death that we fear that people and that's why

[2:50]we usually don't like to hear about death about our death about

[2:54]how we will leave this world one day and die we don't

[2:55]want we don't want to hear about that and usually many people

[3:00]you find they don't want to write their will why because there

[3:02]will means they will die it reminds them of their death they

[3:05]don't wanna you don't want to write that until you know they're

[3:10]older in their life and in Islam writing the will has the

[3:13]adverse opposite effect and that if you write your will the hadith

[3:19]says this will prolong your life so well to us is what

[3:21]I'll die but in the hadith is Allah will prolong your life

[3:26]so death will come later and likewise we usually don't find it

[3:29]very amusing to visit what to visit graveyards we don't like to

[3:36]visit graveyard why because this also reminds us of death and that's

[3:38]why what you notice in this country is that their graveyards are

[3:42]like parks correct grass beautiful trees go to the graveyards in the

[3:46]Middle East there's very frightening you could you could you know you

[3:51]could shoot a horror movie over there but here they're like beautiful

[3:54]parks why because they don't want to be reminded about the next

[3:56]life it's all about the dunya this beautiful park this life enjoy

[4:01]so on and so forth but however this fear that we have

[4:04]about death that we see it as so negative and we try

[4:11]to always run away from it when you come to Islam Islam

[4:14]tells us that this is a positive fear if I fear death

[4:18]this is a good thing because I can benefit from this death

[4:21]and that's why you find it is highly recommended that we always

[4:29]remind ourselves of death the imams used to always remind themselves and

[4:33]their companions about death that one day we will die they used

[4:36]to say stories about the next life and how we will be

[4:40]placed in our grave and how one day we will leave this

[4:41]world and will move on to the next world they should always

[4:46]tell the companions that and that's why it is recommended that if

[4:49]you attend the lecture the speaker from time to time he should

[4:51]remind you that this is not the only world you will live

[4:55]in this is only one part of it there is a next

[4:58]life so we should always remind ourselves about and that's why also

[5:32]is a positive fear how there are two ways in which we

[5:37]can benefit from this fear we don't like this fear we don't

[5:41]like to remember death but remembering death is good why two reasons

[5:44]the first way in which we benefit from this fear of death

[5:50]and remembering death helps us is that this fear helps us in

[5:54]building the next life you see there to clarify this we have

[6:00]to post some questions why is it that we go to school

[6:02]why do we go to university why do we go to colleges

[6:07]for minority maybe they just love learning but for the majority to

[6:09]be honest it's not because of they love learning chemistry and biology

[6:12]and all of that the reason why most of us get an

[6:18]education is because we have a certain fear we fear if we

[6:20]don't get an education we won't get a degree so don't get

[6:24]a degree so what if you don't get a degree you have

[6:28]another fear if I don't get a degree I won't get a

[6:29]good job correct if you don't get a good job you won't

[6:33]make a good living if you don't make a good living you

[6:37]won't be able to provide for yourself and your family you'll live

[6:40]a life of poverty so going back to square one why do

[6:44]is go to school to begin with because I fear one day

[6:47]I'll be poor I won't be able to provide for my family

[6:51]so you see what this fear does to me it pushes me

[6:56]to go and learn to study for my exams to what to

[6:57]go and get a good job to go every day from 8am

[7:01]to 4pm for example and work and work and require because I

[7:05]love my most people know because if I don't I fear I

[7:07]will not be able to provide for my family so this is

[7:12]a positive fear like why do many people get the flu shot

[7:17]why is it that when you see someone sick you try to

[7:19]avoid him why because you have fear that you might become sick

[7:28]harmful things from happening to you this fear is positive it's a

[7:31]good fear it's not bad or else without the sphere we would

[7:36]not live a normal life imagine if we had absolutely no fear

[7:38]would be like children put fire in front of children what will

[8:00]so we have to have this fear this is positive fear this

[8:05]is the fear that pushes us to take precautionary measures so we

[8:15]the next life Allah brought us to this life this life is

[8:18]a short temporary life our role in this world in this in

[8:24]enjoy it no we can enjoy it but that's not our job

[8:28]our job is to build the next life Allah brought you here

[8:32]so that you take your time and the resources that you have

[8:35]to build your next life because your next life after you die

[8:41]this is your true life this one is so short 6070 years

[8:43]you think that's long in front of eternity and even these 70

[8:46]years are not guaranteed how many people die young so this life

[8:49]is worthless we use it to build that eternal life that never

[8:52]finishes and that's why the Holy Quran tells us about someone when

[8:57]he dies what is it what does he say with regret yeah

[9:05]placed in the grave we say I wish I would have done

[9:08]more for my life Allah calls the next life life this is

[9:12]not even life is too short to be called life my true

[9:14]life will only begin after I die so that's why I have

[9:27]the materialistic world and we end up building this world and we

[9:31]neglect the next life why are you building this world this is

[9:37]which never finishes we forget about it we neglect it we don't

[9:42]build it so this is where this fear of death comes when

[9:46]I constantly remind myself of death what does this do to me

[9:49]it always keeps me on track don't get carried away with this

[9:52]dunya this materialistic world this is so short and temporary it's all

[9:59]an illusion it's a mirage focus on your true goal building the

[10:02]next slide when I constantly remind myself of death and I will

[10:04]die one day and I'll be placed in my grave and move

[10:08]to a new life this will push me to do what wait

[10:11]a minute if I have a new life I should build it

[10:13]if I'm moving to a new city I try to prepare when

[10:15]I go there correct so this will push me to do what

[10:19]to build my next life how do I build my next life

[10:22]I do good deeds wait a minute if this world will end

[10:24]one day and I'll go to a next life and my currency

[10:26]in that next life is my goodies let me do some good

[10:30]deeds so do you see how the fear of death pushes me

[10:32]to do good deeds and that's why you find the more you

[10:38]are prepared for the next life the less the fear of death

[10:41]will be you see certain people that they have done so many

[10:45]good deeds their fear of death will be less than me who

[10:47]I have nothing for my I have done nothing for my next

[10:50]life so the more you're prepared just like an exam if you're

[10:52]fully prepared for an exam you're not anxious you're not afraid but

[10:55]if you've done absolutely no no studying no preparations you're gonna fear

[11:00]that you're gonna be anxious this is how we are with death

[11:02]and that's why there's a beautiful story that's mentioned by one of

[11:05]the Imams he mentions a beautiful anecdote he says that there was

[11:11]a one a man one day on a ship that ship was

[11:13]wrecked it sankt everyone died except him he managed to stay hanging

[11:21]on a wooden plank until the waves they washed him and moved

[11:25]him towards an island the shore of an island when he entered

[11:30]the island he saw that there's absolutely nothing here nobody here except

[11:34]bones skulls dead bodies that's all he could find so when he

[11:40]saw that he that this was his end there's nothing here who

[11:42]will save me here but all the said in a while after

[11:46]he sees a ship coming the ship comes comes comes close he

[11:48]sees people he tells them please help me they tell him help

[11:52]you of course we will help you because you are our King

[12:04]put him on the ship they take him to the mainland once

[13:08]their shops homes people move there he begins to what he begins

[13:12]to grow crops so that there is food he builds a beautiful

[13:16]city on that deserted island when the time finishes three years is

[13:19]up they come and tell him now we have to take you

[13:23]back he says ok I'm ready to tell him wait a minute

[13:24]you're not sad no I'm not sad they tell him all the

[13:28]people before you when it was time to go they would cry

[13:30]and beg please don't take me why aren't you doing that he

[13:35]says I'm I'm different I have prepared for my life on that

[13:37]island they take him to the island and he lives a normal

[13:42]beautiful life the Imam says that this story this is a parable

[13:45]this is the parable of the alkyl that island is like your

[13:52]next slide and the city the main line is like this life

[13:54]many people when they are taken to the next life it's like

[13:59]a deserted area you've done nothing to build it and how do

[14:02]you build your next life you build it with good deeds you

[14:06]built it with salah with charity helping other people being kind with

[14:10]other people you do it you build it by worshipping allah subhanahu

[14:14]wa'ta'ala and having good at lap and morals in the society if

[14:20]I have not offered any of that for my asset of course

[14:23]I will fear going to that on that day so panel are

[14:27]we human beings we always like to plan ahead the only time

[14:29]we fail in planning ahead is for our next life if I

[14:33]have a trip a vacation one week let's say I'm going to

[14:38]Hawaii what do i do I said I read which are the

[14:38]good hotels I booked a hotel I make sure nobody is going

[14:42]to go on a vacation without you know booking a hotel you

[14:44]might go there and all the hotels are booked you'll have to

[14:48]sleep on the street so we booked a hotel it's just one

[14:50]week and then I rent a car I go on the website

[14:53]which is the best deal I rent a car and then I

[14:57]download that tripadvisor app I see the attractions where do I go

[15:00]at 10am a 7am I'll have breakfast here and then i will

[15:04]go to this place and then i will swim and then we

[15:05]plan out everything from A to Z correct we know what clothes

[15:10]to take we know what we have to do so on and

[15:13]so forth it's just one week we plan everything we know what

[15:16]the weather is we know what to expect but when it comes

[15:18]to the biggest travel the biggest trip of our life which is

[15:22]the trip from this world to the next world recluse we don't

[15:24]even take the time to see what's going to happen in the

[15:28]grave the first day the second day what are the stages okay

[15:32]what happens after that do I just stay in my grave for

[15:34]a million years well Allah try me what will Allah ask me

[15:37]about in my grave so many people don't even bother to educate

[15:40]themselves about that why do I believe that Carlos I'm just gonna

[15:44]die and disappear when I'm place in the grave of course now

[15:49]we believe in the hereafter in the next slide so why do

[15:52]I not educate myself about what's going to happen there Allah will

[15:54]ask me certain questions do I know what those questions are do

[15:57]I have the answers am I fully prepared or not and that's

[16:01]why there was a man who had three friends the first friend

[16:07]he used to spend the most of his time with he used

[16:11]to spend eight to ten hours a day with this friend of

[16:16]his was his best buddy and this man he had a very

[16:21]big trial and he needed all the support that he could get

[16:26]so obviously who does he go to his best buddy his best

[16:29]friend he goes to his best friend he tells him I have

[16:33]a trial two big trial next week and I need you to

[16:35]help me and he's expecting that he will help him because his

[16:39]best friend but unfortunately that friend betrayed them he tells me not

[17:27]I'll bring posters and banners and I will you know bring people

[17:30]to you know make up procession for you will you know cheer

[17:37]for your name and I'll then escort you to the to the

[17:39]door of the court but I will not place one finger in

[19:16]their jobs from meeting to meeting from interview to interview from conference

[19:20]to conference correct our life revolves around our jobs my best friend

[19:24]so Imam Ali says when you're placing your grave you tell your

[19:28]wealth your money I need you to help me this is the

[19:32]most day that I am in need and I spent so much

[19:36]time on you you speak to your mansion to your BMW and

[19:38]Mercedes and all the cars that we accumulate enter the gold that

[19:44]we have and to my perfumes and to my makeup and to

[19:46]my one-thousand-dollar hand Gucci handbag and I speak to my $10,000 Rolex

[19:50]watch I spent so much time and money on you what will

[19:54]you give me today do you know what answer is in an

[19:57]IT SEZ your wealth will tell you i will give you Kevin

[19:59]your shroud the piece of cloth that they you know put on

[20:05]you they tie you up with when you die which is probably

[20:32]help me your family members will tell you after you die you

[21:26]much time with our deeds we neglect the good deeds so we

[21:30]turned to our good deeds we don't expect much because we haven't

[21:32]spent too much time on good deeds and we tell our good

[21:36]deeds will you help me all the sudden you see your good

[21:38]deeds will tell you your Salah your zeca your hedge your kind

[21:43]words with your parents and with your family members and other people

[21:47]in the society any good that you did your good deeds will

[21:49]tell you yes we will come inside the grave for you and

[21:53]we will defend you and we will protect you and we will

[21:58]stay with you tell the day of judgment but then i say

[22:01]i wish i would have done more good deeds for this day

[22:07]I wish I would have done more what did we say Allah

[22:10]says in the holy quran yeah pour lui i late any atom

[22:14]to lehigh aati I'm so regretful I wish I have done more

[22:16]good deeds because now my deed will help me my money won't

[22:20]help me my money will help me in this world for the

[22:23]next world and won't help me just the Kevin that's the only

[22:25]thing you will take no matter how rich you are no matter

[22:28]how rich you are you will not take more than the Kevin

[22:31]there's a beautiful arabic poem that says under limb and Malik at

[22:40]you're Bill Gates or if you're a peasant a homeless peasant in

[22:47]India after they die they're equal they just take their shroud in

[22:50]their coffin in it that's all you can take trust me you

[22:52]can't you won't take your billions in that grave your inherit your

[22:56]you know your inheritors your son's won't let you they want your

[22:59]view they want the money you're dead move on they want your

[23:02]money you can't bury your money with you so that's why my

[23:06]dear brothers and sisters this fear of death that we have drives

[23:08]us to prepare for the next life and that's why we shouldn't

[23:15]postponed we've been given a limited unknown amount of time don't waste

[23:20]it on this world we would spend it on the next life

[23:22]spend at building your next life and you do that by doing

[23:26]good deeds so this is number one the first benefit of this

[23:29]fear is that what it motivates us and drives us to build

[23:36]our next line to do good deeds the second benefit of the

[23:39]fear of death is that it serves as a deterrent from committing

[23:44]sins and oppressing other people it makes sure that we're just that

[23:49]we don't infringe on other people's rights how look in any country

[23:52]here in this country and every country in the world there are

[23:56]laws correct and there is a law enforcement agency like the police

[24:01]and the FBI and the IRS and all those other agencies now

[24:06]out and and usually the citizens of that country they fear breaking

[24:11]the law correct now is this fear good or bad of course

[24:16]it's good because if it was not for the fear of breaking

[24:18]the law most people would not follow the law most people aren't

[24:22]angels now today I'm coming from let's say Dearborn it's a one

[24:28]hour drive the speed limit is 70 if there's no cops to

[24:30]you know what to make sure that I don't speed what's going

[24:34]to prevent me from speeding I I personally would drive 100 miles

[24:37]an hour if there's no cops and its foreign and you know

[24:41]the the highways empty correct so what makes sure that you drive

[24:44]safely you are the seatbelt you don't pass the red light correct

[24:49]you don't pass the stop sign usually it's the fear that you

[24:51]have of the cups it's not because you're a good obedient citizen

[24:54]and you love obeying the law may be one percent of the

[24:59]population are like that 99% they obey because there is what because

[25:01]there's fear because you don't want to get a ticket because you

[25:04]don't want to be prosecuted you don't want to be given a

[25:09]fine you don't want to spend time in jail that's what makes

[25:11]sure that I am a good obedient citizen what prevents me from

[25:16]paying my taxes because I love paying taxes trust me now no

[25:18]one loves paying taxes because you fear the law breaking the law

[25:24]correct the same thing applies to the next life when we have

[25:27]fear of death when I know that one day I will die

[25:30]and be placed in the grave and Allah will hold me accountable

[25:33]for every deed do you know what that will do to me

[25:39]I will think twice before I commit a sin I will think

[25:41]twice before I apress any other individual you see there are so

[25:45]many people they get away with crimes in this world nobody knows

[25:50]about it no one can prove it but with Allah you can

[25:52]never get away with any crime you know allah is watching you

[25:56]24-7 no matter where you are that's why the Holy Quran says

[25:59]not hoo-hoo Sunnah to Alana Alana never sleeps never he never takes

[26:04]a nap he's always watching you when I know God's watching me

[26:08]twenty-four/seven what will I do I'm gonna behave correct I will not

[26:11]oppressed other people I will not for example steal other people's possessions

[26:14]i will be kind and good with other people because he's watching

[26:18]me a few days ago they sent a video there is a

[26:20]camera in on those street cameras I think it's an India or

[26:25]Pakistan or somewhere and there's this motorist he's trying to fix his

[26:29]motorcycle and then a guy comes from behind him he acts like

[26:31]he's just you know wondering there and then he snatches his wallet

[26:35]after he snatches his wallet he sees oh my god there's a

[26:37]camera it caught me so then he throws the wallet back and

[26:41]then he starts going like this to the camera please don't you

[26:43]know prosecute me he starts it starts to beg the camera whoever

[26:46]is looking don't hold me accountable you know I gave the wallet

[26:49]back if that camera was not there you think he'd give the

[26:53]wallet back Allah has cameras on twenty-four/seven do you know what this

[26:57]does to us the sphere of what of being caught it makes

[27:01]us behave allah is watching me right now tomorrow every day there

[27:04]is no way i can run away from a las panel to

[27:07]Allah so this fear of dying and being placed in that grave

[27:09]being held accountable by Allah is a deterrent from New committing Kabam

[27:14]committing oppression committing transgression oppressing other people and being unjust with other

[27:22]people and that's why you find there is a hadith a beautiful

[27:25]heady that says when we die and we are placed in our

[27:30]graves there is an angel that will come and that angel will

[27:33]come and tell you to write every good and bad d that

[27:37]you have done you lived 80 years you've done millions of bad

[27:42]deeds and some good deals so he tells you to write them
