[0:16]yeah it's my honor to be with you this night as we
[0:21]have gathered to exchange Islamic ideas and to learn inshallah so the
[0:25]sister is asking how do we view the solar eclipse right and
[0:31]the prayer so in Islamic law Whenever there is a natural disaster
[0:36]like an earthquake or there is a lunar eclipse or a solar
[0:43]eclipse it is mandatory for us to pray what is called is
[0:47]the signs prayer now the reason why we pray that is because
[0:56]the sun and the moon are signs created by God now when
[1:00]you have an eclipse God wants you to remember the system the
[1:04]delicate system that he's created and that the universe is in his
[1:12]hands that the universe is created and organized by God never forget
[1:16]that this beautiful system has a Creator and this system is so
[1:25]precise so precise you know how small Earth is in the solar
[1:28]system you can fill in how many Earths in a sun who
[1:33]knows his science a million you can fit like a million Earths
[1:38]in the sun right and the and the Moon is even smaller
[1:45]than that now imagine the small little Moon orbiting in the Galaxy
[1:50]blocking the view of the sun that's just fascinating Subhan Allah it's
[1:54]a small very very small moon but it can block a sun
[2:00]that's a million times bigger than the earth that's a sign who
[2:02]created that why did God create the sun why did he create
[2:07]the Earth why did he create the moon so when you pray
[2:11]Sal you're resorting to Allah oh Allah you're my Creator I recognize
[2:15]these signs and I have an obligation to worship you and to
[2:18]live a life of fulfillment for your sake this is one reason
[2:22]why we pray the science prayer now it's a two prayer and
[2:28]basically in each There is five r that you do so if
[2:31]you have no clue how to pray it I recommend come on
[2:35]Monday at 2:30 p.m.
[2:35]we're going to pray together over here inshallah for that answer um
[2:45]followup question on that people can still pray at home if they
[2:48]know how to pray absolutely if you know how to pray it
[2:49]you can pray it anywhere let's say you're stuck at work and
[2:54]you have a corner where you normally pray your Salah you can
[2:57]pray in college you can pray at home you can can pray
[3:02]now the timing is pretty much between 2:30 to 3:30 so make
[3:06]sure you pray during this window when the eclipse is ongoing we'll
[3:11]take a question from the brothers yeah understand that some restaurants um
[3:26]they call their chicken Halal even when it's machine it says uh
[3:32]you know slaughtered accordingly to Islamic Sharia law but through a machine
[3:39]so uh my question is how important is it to know if
[3:42]that chicken is uh slaughtered that way versus hand slaughtered and is
[3:46]aam for the sh Muslims when it comes to buying meat anytime
[3:53]that you're buying from a Muslim a Muslim store owner a Muslim
[3:58]company you're not required to investigate how they prepared the meat because
[4:04]Allah subhana wa tala wanted life to be easy for us Allah
[4:11]did not want us to be miserable and to have OCD with
[4:13]what we eat and you go and investigate everything it's difficult for
[4:16]a lot of people to do that so if you go to
[4:20]a Muslim restaurant if you buy from a Muslim company and they
[4:26]tell you it's Halal you're not obligated in Islamic law to invest
[4:32]in you can treat it as Halal if it turns out that
[4:34]it wasn't Halal on the day of judgment you're off the hook
[4:38]you did not commit a sin now if you'd like to investigate
[4:41]sure if that's something that you personally prefer fine you can do
[4:45]that but do you have to you do not now what is
[4:50]the status of chicken that's slaughtered by the machine many many of
[4:53]the Maraj and the scholars they do consider that as Halal and
[5:00]fulfilling the Halal requirements as long as the chicken on that machine
[5:04]is positioned towards the Kaa towards the as long as the one
[5:09]who operates the machine who presses the button is a Muslim because
[5:13]that's another condition of slaughtering that the one slaughtering or administering the
[5:18]slaughtering has to be Muslim and the name of Allah is mentioned
[5:22]so if you have a slaughter house and the chicken are all
[5:26]positioned the front of their body is positioned towards the and the
[5:31]one who operates the machine is a Muslim and while he pushes
[5:35]the button to slaughter them he says the name of Allah that
[5:38]does qualify as Halal according to most Mar so we don't have
[5:43]a problem with machine slaughtering here that would be okay according to
[5:47]the conditions of the that would be fine followup question on that
[5:55]we know that Haram food definitely has an effect on the soul
[5:59]on Dua for example um if someone eats Haram food without knowing
[6:05]you know they go to a restaurant the restaurant own claims that
[6:09]the food is halal and turns out to be Haram in reality
[6:11]is there an effect on the Soul on the Dua of a
[6:16]person if it turns out to be Haram that's a very good
[6:22]question let's say you eat Haram unknowingly if you eat Haram knowingly
[6:26]obviously it's devastating to the soul IM Hussein on the day of
[6:32]Ash you know what he said about those people who came to
[6:35]fight him they knew who he was and what he represents the
[6:40]IM said IM Hussein said these people who are fighting me their
[6:54]stomachs are filled with Haram either Haram me or meaning they live
[7:00]with a Haram income they feed themselves from Haram money as a
[7:05]result of that they allowed the Shan to overpower them and they
[7:09]forgot the remembrance of Allah and that's why they're fighting the Imam
[7:15]of their time so eating Haram food knowingly is very destructive to
[7:19]the soul but what about if you eat Haram not knowingly your
[7:22]brother invites you forar and for whatever reason let's say the food
[7:25]was not Halal is that going to impact your spirituality some scholars
[7:30]believe even your progeny it's going to impact them somehow this is
[7:36]disputed by one group of they say no it does not have
[7:39]an impact on you because you did not commit a sin and
[7:42]Islam tells you you don't have to investigate if a Muslim offers
[7:45]you food you can take that food without the need to investigate
[7:49]therefore there shouldn't be any negative impact on you that's the first
[7:53]group of Scholars but then you have the second group of Scholars
[8:00]their understanding is unfortunately yes it's not going to be destructive like
[8:06]if you were to eat Haram knowingly but it still will have
[8:08]an impact and the example that they give is somebody gives you
[8:13]a bottle of water and you you think it's water because it
[8:16]looks like water it turns out to be alcohol or there's a
[8:20]drug in it are you going to get drunk are you going
[8:21]to get drugged of course even though you didn't know okay you
[8:26]didn't commit a sin but it's still going to harm you so
[8:30]some scholars believe if you eat Haram unknowingly it does have some
[8:34]level of harm now what do I do I know you're all
[8:35]worried now based on this second opinion of Scholars what do you
[8:40]do there are ways to compensate for that for instance I recommend
[8:44]every day every week every month whenever you can take out s
[8:49]and give it to the poor and say Ya Allah if I
[8:50]ate any Haram food unknowingly during this month I want you to
[8:56]offset it through this s because whenever you give Sak that creat
[9:00]a good atmosphere for your soul and it does goodness to your
[9:06]soul so say Ya Allah offset it recite a from the Quran
[9:09]and say Ya Allah if there was any bad effect from Haram
[9:12]food I want you to compensate for it because of this any
[9:15]good deed pray for Allah subhana wa tala help out your parents
[9:21]do something good and ask Allah to offset it a lot of
[9:27]scholars believe that will offset it so if you're dealing with that
[9:29]concern there is a way to handle it inshallah all right we'll
[9:32]take a question from the sisters I'll be done with uh nursing
[9:44]school in a couple months inshah and I was wondering if you
[9:47]can give like advice about HAL Haram perspective from that I feel
[9:50]like it's such a broad question but sometimes they make you do
[9:55]things are against a religion what could you do about that yes
[9:59]one of the challenges of working in healthcare whether you're a doctor
[10:03]or you're a nurse is dealing with the opposite gender so if
[10:08]you're a female nurse and you're dealing with males for instance and
[10:13]sometimes it may be required of you to touch the opposite gender
[10:17]there would be direct skin-to-skin contact now we know in Islamic law
[10:22]that's not allowed in Islamic law you cannot touch uh a member
[10:26]of the opposite gender without you know if it's direct skin-to-skin contact
[10:33]that would be a violation of the law of Islam and the
[10:36]laws of hijab so what do you do here number one find
[10:43]acceptable Alternatives go to your manager your boss whoever you're working for
[10:48]whoever is directing your program and very gently and nicely take them
[10:52]a nice gift okay be smart be creative it's effective and tell
[10:55]them look I have a dilemma here and I need your help
[10:58]according to my religious values if you're a lady I can't touch
[11:03]a man direct skin-to skin contact so what alternatives do I have
[11:07]can I wear gloves can I do this can I you know
[11:11]somehow cover my arms so that they don't see it talk to
[11:13]them and I know cases around the country of sisters who went
[11:18]to their boss to their manager to the head of that department
[11:21]whoever it was and they addressed this concern and they did give
[11:25]them viable Alternatives so the first step is to try to figure
[11:31]out Alternatives talk to them brainstorm be effective get in touch with
[11:35]other nurses who've successfully gone through that path and see what you
[11:39]can do so that is the first requirement that you must do
[11:43]let's say that doesn't work you've got the stubborn boss manager no
[11:49]sorry you have to expose your arm in the operating room let's
[11:52]say sometimes that could be the case or you can't wear gloves
[11:56]in certain cases what do you do in that case that's a
[12:01]tough one right you still have to observe Islamic laws in this
[12:07]case so you come up with alternatives on your own if they're
[12:10]not going to give you an alternative you try to come up
[12:16]with your own alternative for instance if sometimes you're able to take
[12:21]only female patients try to do that Advocate see if that's something
[12:25]you can get away with or try to wear some sort of
[12:30]apron or stand in a corner of the room where your back
[12:31]is to them and you're not showing your arm cuz I've been
[12:35]told by some sisters sometimes in certain operating rooms you're wearing the
[12:40]apron and your arm has to be exposed for whatever you know
[12:43]reason right now if that's the case and they're not giving you
[12:47]any alternative try to do it in a way where you're not
[12:51]being seen by males and ask them those male men in the
[12:55]room tell them look respect my Islamic law you know boundaries don't
[12:58]look at my arm in any case there are ways to navigate
[13:01]that now yes if sometimes you're stuck in a situation you absolutely
[13:06]don't have an alternative and it's necessary for you to work in
[13:11]healthcare because at the at the end of the day we need
[13:16]Muslims in healthcare the law of the law of no difficulty May
[13:19]apply according to many scholars and they say in those extreme you
[13:24]know moments then that's fine you know this law is lifted from
[13:30]you so that's how we we navigate that thank you s for
[13:35]that wonderful answer and I think this advice can be applied in
[13:37]different professions in any profession you know I many people ask me
[13:41]about the handshake right I will be pressured to shake hands so
[13:48]what do you do the first step find Alternatives believe me 80
[13:52]90% of the times you can find Alternatives let me give you
[13:56]an example that happened with me a few years ago I was
[13:59]in Canada so they invited me to a church that was across
[14:01]from the Masjid I was speaking at now I knew when I
[14:06]went to the church I'm going to give a speech and then
[14:08]after the speech they're going to stand in line they will want
[14:12]to hug you at the church they'll want to shake hands with
[14:15]you so I'm like this is a dilemma how do what do
[14:19]I do right so I looked at the pastor of the CH
[14:23]of the church before the program I told him Pastor I'm kind
[14:26]of in a situation here he's like what Muhammad what's the problem
[14:29]I told him if women come and they shake hands you know
[14:33]we Muslims you know we observe the laws of hijab and we
[14:37]don't shake hands with women that are not related to us but
[14:39]I don't want to offend anyone here at the church so what
[14:43]do I do he started laughing he's like I'll give you a
[14:46]trick he said before they extend their arm when you put your
[14:52]hand on your chest or heart like we normally do he like
[14:54]Muhammad they don't get it they don't know what that means so
[14:58]what you need to do is show show them this signal of
[15:01]respect so before they extend their arm just do this they'll get
[15:07]it I'm like let's try let's see what happens alhamdulillah that day
[15:12]passed with full success no one extended their arm because I was
[15:17]standing there okay maybe it's a little bit awkward for me to
[15:21]do that but hey I had to do that so come up
[15:21]with Alternatives many times if you're a doctor in your office you
[15:28]know U warmly welcome your patient care a tray of bwa Dr
[15:31]Ali just make your hand busy with something that way you don't
[15:34]have to shake hands so what's what's an alternative that you would
[15:39]do Haj ramzi same same thing you know just carry something in
[15:41]your arm be welcoming so that you don't think you're rude use
[15:48]the trick It's very effective Dr Ali if you if you you
[15:53]know hand out bwa at your clinic I'll be the first one
[15:54]to come inshallah now doctors giving bakwas I don't know if that
[16:00]kind of ironic right but it's fine we'll take baklawa from you
[16:04]what's your alternative Ryan okay that that's a creative way out of
[16:34]respect for my wife blame can work in fact one of my
[16:46]uncles actually tried that once he was he was he was uh
[16:52]traveling and then these girls had like a project I don't know
[16:54]for what reason they had to give the most number of hugs
[16:59]mashallah what a nice project so they approached him and he realized
[17:01]what the project is like but what is he going to tell
[17:04]them he's like wait wait wait a minute they kind of got
[17:05]offended in the beginning he's like I promised my wife on this
[17:10]trip I'm not touching any other lady so I have to stick
[17:12]like wow you're such an amazing husband so just come up with
[17:20]creative ways and and by the way the last resort if nothing
[17:22]worked you can always resort to the sneeze sneeze on your hand
[17:28]nobody wants to shake your hand at that point now the law
[17:31]of I know sometimes you'll be stuck in a situation where your
[17:35]brain stops functioning you're very embarrassed you don't know what to do
[17:37]and you feel like there's a mountain is going to collapse on
[17:41]you it's very difficult if it reaches that point and honestly you
[17:44]just don't know how to get out of it it's very embarrassing
[17:47]for you you don't know what to do there are many Mar
[17:49]and Scholars who have said the law of applies here if it's
[17:57]just too much for you to handle in in that specific moment
[18:01]the law is lifted and you know what I'm going to say
[18:05]I don't need to say it I don't want a tick tock
[18:06]meme going out there to say say go shake hands right but
[18:11]it would be okay in those rare circumstances but honestly if you
[18:15]come up with Alternatives it it does work even sitting on a
[18:19]table where drinks are served sometimes you as a business as a
[18:21]businessman you know with your clients with your co-workers you'll have to
[18:27]do that but if you come up with Alternatives you can avoid
[18:33]that for that we'll transition to the second category of questions and
[18:40]if you have other questions say inshah will be available tomorrow um
[18:44]and you promise that you won't leave until every answer is every
[18:48]question is answered tomorrow did I make such a promise I don't
[18:54]know I'm asking I think fasting has affected meib all right I
[18:57]plan on getting home before f and and for for the most
[19:15]part it works yeah alhamdulillah all right so the second category is
[19:21]theological question so if anyone has any theological questions now is the
[19:26]time thank you it's my honor there are many verses in the
[19:42]Quran that state about the shaan what he had planned to do
[19:44]to mankind because of his Obed Disobedience to God when he ordered
[19:47]him to uh do suud to Adam hypothetically speaking what would happen
[19:56]had the shaitan did the do the suud to and thank you
[20:03]that's a very valid question imagine Shan would not have acted arrogantly
[20:09]and he would have behaved and he would have did the sujud
[20:12]to Adam what would have happened to humanity after that would we
[20:15]be living in heaven no trial and we would not go through
[20:22]this Earthly trial see it was the plan of Allah from day
[20:27]one to try the human human being and to put the human
[20:33]being on Earth before the whole story of Adam and the andan
[20:36]refusing to do suud when Allah intended to create Adam meaning when
[20:44]he told the angels that he will create Adam what did Allah
[20:51][Music] say from day one it was the plan of Allah to
[21:04]put aifa on Earth so the whole goal behind creating Adam was
[21:07]to put him on Earth and try him and try his progeny
[21:10]the idea was not to put him in heaven heaven was just
[21:16]a temporary stage in his life to get him more prepared to
[21:19]go to Earth we already know that how because Allah is stating
[21:26]it in the Quran so if based on this brother if H
[21:31]if uh Shan had done the sujud we still would be tried
[21:34]in a different way Allah would have found another way to try
[21:39]you for instance you have the evil nefs the evil nefs encourages
[21:41]you to sin you still have that as a trial Allah would
[21:46]have created let's say another outcome for you to be tried because
[21:50]the idea is we have to be tried now how we are
[21:55]tried there are many possibilities and depending on how we use our
[21:59]free will Allah subhanahu wa taala will try us according to that
[22:02]so even if that would not have happened Allah would have still
[22:04]tried us in a different way because the idea is to try
[22:08]you to give you the opportunity to elevate your spirituality and to
[22:12]earn Heaven that's the goal from day one that's how we would
[22:18]briefly address that question so it's not because Shan deviated and he
[22:22]refused to prostrate that we all got stuck no we're stuck in
[22:28]the trial anyway but the reason why we ended up with this
[22:30]particular trial is because of the events that happened in the past
[22:35]had they not happened Allah would have tried us in a different
[22:37]way does that make sense thank you for that wonderful answer s
[22:43]uh we'll take a question from the sisters yeah that's a very
[22:59]very valid question I know a lot of children are in school
[23:01]and part of your curriculum is to attend a music class or
[23:06]go to a concert part of the school and yesterday we talked
[23:11]about singing and music being Haram many types of it being Haram
[23:13]so how do you deal with that the first question to ask
[23:18]AMU is the type of music that is going to be played
[23:19]there at the concert do you have an idea of what they're
[23:24]going to play if it's a Halal type of music as many
[23:26]scholars have said if the music is not a type of music
[23:34]that's suitable to entertainment Gatherings if it's not that type of music
[23:38]you know the and the dancing and the inappropriate type then it's
[23:44]fine many scholars have said the classical call music is halal and
[23:47]so if it's that type of music there is no issue according
[23:50]to many of these but if you suspect or you know that
[23:54]no there is going to be Haram music involved there's going to
[23:59]be a type of music you know the one for entertainment type
[24:02]of music in that case you have to excuse yourself so have
[24:07]Mom and Dad contact the school your teacher and tell them that
[24:11]for religious values our children cannot participate in this particular concert and
[24:16]so we ask you to excuse them sometimes they will ask you
[24:20]for a letter give us a letter that your religion says that
[24:24]well here at the mid we're we're happy to issue you that
[24:27]letter we can write that letter for you to excuse you so
[24:31]do your best am to excuse yourself from that class from that
[24:34]concert if Haram music is being played in it does that make
[24:40]sense okay may Allah bless you all right uh yes where is
[24:52]the mic yeah um my question was about kir so I'm in
[24:59]my junior year of college and I I feel like I have
[25:02]a decision I need to make but I'm not sure if the
[25:06]the decision I need to make is because I need to do
[25:08]a or because I'm scared to make it so can I have
[25:12]some guidance on that when it comes to the number one Scholars
[25:17]advise take a when you're stuck hesitant you've done your research you've
[25:23]consulted you've gone through all of that at the end of the
[25:27]day Allah has given you the intellect use your your intellect to
[25:29]make good decisions I know some people they never make a decision
[25:33]in their life anything and the craziest example of that is once
[25:44]someone contacted me and he told me say I'm hesitant whether to
[25:47]take a on this issue can you take a whether I should
[25:54]take a on this Ya Allah can you imagine Habi that's OCD
[25:58]if you're at that level but what what is this that's too
[26:05]much Allah wants you have but make sure you do the appropriate
[26:10]research you consult and many times you'll be confident with a path
[26:15]let's say you're just stuck you're honestly stuck you consulted you looked
[26:19]at the pros you looked at the cons and you don't know
[26:23]of this is good you're really stuck at that point would be
[26:29]um you know apprpriate here so just because you're scared I would
[26:33]not really recommend rushing into a um unless there is a legitimate
[26:36]reason why you're scared like you looked at the pros you looked
[26:38]at the cons you consulted and still there there are valid reasons
[26:46]why you're concerned in that case yes AK can be appropriate but
[26:49]but rushing into AK just because you feel scared that's not something
[26:53]many scholars would recommend does that answer the question s did you
[26:59]take that eventually or no oh I'm not taking suchas because I'm
[27:03]afraid next time he'll call me a triple is going to be
[27:06]involved he's going to ask you to take a whether to take
[27:10]a for him or not all right we skip the sister over
[27:13]here yeah oh and I just remember s once a brother told
[27:20]me I took a it's so it turned out let's say bad
[27:26]he wants a whether to stick to that first that's another nice
[27:32]one yes some people are creative Salam I'm sorry if this question
[27:39]is kind of confusing but uh in Surah bakar verse 36 through
[27:42]37 it talks about Adam and the mistake that he makes and
[27:48]that he relented to God and God forgave him I once heard
[27:51]a lecture where the Sheikh was saying that the prophets couldn't make
[27:54]mistakes so I was confused in this verse about how God was
[27:58]forgiving him because I thought they couldn't make mistakes and they couldn't
[28:01]make sins and if that's incorrect how does it also tie back
[28:09]to Muslims not believing in original sin that's a very good question
[28:16]let's break this briefly into the following points what Adam did by
[28:22]approaching that tree was it a sin or not Scholars have three
[28:25]understandings of what happened the first opinion which some Shia scholars believe
[28:31]in it and mainstream Sunni Scholars also believe in that is that
[28:36]Adam committed a sin the Quran is very clear that Adam committed
[28:39]a sin and he deviated in that moment but then he repented
[28:46]and Allah subhana tala accepted his repentance so it was a sin
[28:50]and why did he he did not do the sin out of
[28:56]any bad intention the reason why Shan deceived him is because Shan
[29:03]took an oath that approaching the tree is good for you and
[29:08]it will get you in heaven for eternity the Quran States this
[29:16]is from he took an oath that I'm giving you my honest
[29:23]advice now because Adam was so pure and innocent he never thought
[29:27]that anybody could actually take a an a false oath in God
[29:30]that never crossed his mind because that was the first time in
[29:37]history that a false oath had been taken by shatan so when
[29:40]he saw the oath of Shan he forgot the advice of God
[29:45]nessia he forgot it's not it wasn't deliberate that's the first opinion
[29:48]of Scholars it was a sin and Allah forgave him the second
[29:53]opinion of Scholars mainly amongst the sh it wasn't to sin but
[29:58]it was basically Allah gave him advice Adam you have to go
[30:03]to Earth anyway you're not staying here because Allah told the angels
[30:06]as we just said Allah informed them not that was the goal
[30:16]from day one Allah told him look I prefer that you stay
[30:19]here in heaven over here you don't get hungry you don't get
[30:24]thirsty everything's available for you but once you go to Earth it's
[30:27]going to be tough so I love you I want you to
[30:30]stay here longer but hey if you want to expedite your test
[30:32]and go and suffer on Earth that's your problem that's not my
[30:34]problem so it's like the doctor gives you advice you don't take
[30:39]the advice you kind of suffer it's not technically a sin because
[30:42]Allah did not issue an executive command to him he gave him
[30:46]advice and Adam did not take the advice so it's not a
[30:51]sin but he just didn't make the best decision that's the second
[30:54]opinion of the third opinion suggested by some Shia Scholars is that
[31:03]this was all a play a show so Humanity learns that Shan
[31:08]is your enemy Adam knew everything he knew Shan was his enemy
[31:17]he knew that God created him to go to Earth and by
[31:19]the way when Adam was in heaven what was the only way
[31:23]to go down to earth what was the only way by approaching
[31:31]the tree so wait a minute now there's like a dilemma here
[31:37]Allah says I want a Khalifa on Earth but the msk the
[31:39]only way for him to go to Earth is to sin so
[31:42]some Scholars say wait wait if you look at it from the
[31:47]surface something doesn't add up over here which means they've concluded Adam
[31:52]did not sin and even Adam did not do something wrong he
[31:56]knew the plan of God he just went with the plan of
[32:00]God and these expressions in the Quran they're Ma they're metaphoric Expressions
[32:05]just to show us look Shan does it mean well this is
[32:10]also a third opinion suggested by Scholars that that that's how we
[32:14]understand what happened but the original sin that Humanity inherited the original
[32:19]sin that's not something we believe in Islam assuming Adam sinned let's
[32:23]say for the sake of argument we assume Adam Sinn okay he's
[32:26]only accountable for that why would his progeny be born sinful such
[32:32]that God has to S send Jesus to die on the cross
[32:36]to expiate for our sin we do not find that compatible with
[32:38]the justice of Allah our problem with modern Christianity is the following
[32:42]that let's say Adam created did the sin why is Humanity paying
[32:48]the price why are you born sinful if your great-grandfather did something
[32:52]and I come and say you're sinful you're guilty is that just
[32:56]the Quran rejects this philosophy what you're not accountable for what others
[33:02]do you're accountable for what you yourself do so we don't accept
[33:08]the original sin in Islam in fact the prophet sallallah Al States
[33:14]every person in Islam is born innocent pure and believes in the
[33:21]actual existence of Allah subhana wa tala so every newborn is innocent
[33:24]we do not believe in the original sin in any way or
[33:26]shape that's assuming it was even a sin as I said there
[33:31]are two other scholarly perspectives on it for that beautiful answer um
[33:40]we'll move on to the third category um as we already passed
[33:42]uh the halfway mark of our program and inshallah we'll get to
[33:46]your questions if we if we're not able to get to them
[33:50]today we'll get to them tomorrow inshallah um so the third category
[33:54]is are social questions uh social issues social issues family issues you
[34:00]know in society Community issues marriage relationships whatever it may be we
[34:06]have a question that's written um that was given to me um
[34:09]someone is asking about sometimes you know parents and and their children
[34:17]have you know disputes or disagreements um and in this case it's
[34:21]it's a matter of a dispute over marriage um how do they
[34:26]how does one balance that with you know the with with the
[34:29]you know Obstacle of falling into um or you know objecting to
[34:32]to the parents how how does one balance that that's a very
[34:38]common case that we get in the community you want to marry
[34:41]someone your parents don't like that person they're opposed to this marriage
[34:44]so what do you do let's briefly examine the following points from
[34:50]an Islamic perspective and a practical perspective first of all parents need
[34:54]to know that they cannot force their children to marry someone the
[34:59]choice is yours at the end of the day you have to
[35:03]be consenting I know some moms some dads they force especially their
[35:07]daughter to marry someone you can't force your daughter to marry someone
[35:10]sure you can encourage her you can be creative you can what
[35:15]you can advise her give her advice do your best be creative
[35:18]that's all within your domain but to force them that's not something
[35:23]that you are allowed to do in the religion of Islam that's
[35:28]number one number two you as the child the son or daughter
[35:30]you have a dilemma here on the one hand you don't want
[35:35]to upset your parents and in fact in some cases you know
[35:37]it would be Haram to go against the advice of your parents
[35:42]and hurt them in some cases I'm not saying in all cases
[35:44]on the other hand you know that this person is good for
[35:49]you you've done your research you really think there's compatibility or let's
[35:53]say the spouse your mom or dad are suggesting you you you
[35:56]have no interest in that that spouse that's it there's just no
[36:01]attraction there's no interest whatsoever so your concern is either I'm going
[36:04]to hurt my parents if I marry the one that I want
[36:07]or if I want to please them I'm going to end up
[36:10]with someone I don't love I don't like and that could fail
[36:11]my marriage what do you do in this case here are the
[36:16]steps I recommend brothers and sisters number one hear out your parents
[36:20]your parents have experience mom has experience dad has experience sometimes parents
[36:25]see what you don't see if they have a concern don't just
[36:28]dismiss it now sometimes parents may not give good advice I acknowledge
[36:32]that but sometimes they do and many times they do so the
[36:39]first step is genuinely sincerely hear them out if your mom or
[36:42]dad have a problem with this potential spouse ask them baba mama
[36:47]lay it out for me I want to hear you and I
[36:48]respect your opinion what is the issue here they may have a
[36:53]legitimate concern they may not but they may do but as a
[36:55]first step hear them out sincerely and genuinely that's number one number
[37:02]two let's say you heard them out you're you're not convinced let's
[37:06]say they're just being stubborn or this guy is not from your
[37:09]from your village and that's why they're opposed to it whatever they
[37:11]don't have a legitimate concern against this person and you really want
[37:18]to marry this person here what do you do my recommendation is
[37:22]if you are willing to let go and find someone else if
[37:28]you can without breaking down and getting depressed and becoming suicidal okay
[37:33]at the end of the day I prefer that we don't hurt
[37:37]our parents yes it's your right to marry this person at the
[37:40]end of the day no one can force you but honestly it's
[37:43]difficult for me to be happy in my married life if I
[37:48]know my parents are devastated so if it's a strong no from
[37:51]them and they will be upset it's going to create lifelong tension
[37:57]I would not put myself in that situation I'd say no even
[38:00]though I think it's a loss for me I ask Allah to
[38:03]compensate me Ya Allah everything is in your hands I know you'll
[38:06]compensate me inshallah that's my recommendation but let's say you can you
[38:10]really want to marry this person and you simply are not willing
[38:17]to let go then my recommendation to you at this point do
[38:21]your best and be creative to at least soften the position of
[38:26]your parents there's a big difference between a hard hard no and
[38:33]a soft no don't proceed if it's a hard no it's not
[38:37]advisable to devastate your parents my dear brothers and sisters hurting your
[38:43]parents even if they're being illogical okay it's simply not worth it
[38:46]so do your best be creative show them that you love them
[38:51]you care about them and and compensate and one way by the
[38:54]way that you can compensate with your parents if you have to
[38:57]make it a good decision and they're against it but you really
[39:00]believe this is the good decision you have to compensate for their
[39:05]disappointment by doing more to show them appreciation I'll give you an
[39:10]example let's say you're getting a job and you really think this
[39:13]is good for you but your mom is against that job your
[39:15]dad is against that job you want to be an engineer Baba
[39:19]you have to be a doctor and you don't want to be
[39:22]a doctor you don't have the passion to be a doctor go
[39:25]become an engineer that's fine but every single day go to your
[39:32]father to your mother kiss their hand and feet hug them tell
[39:36]them Baba I appreciate you I love you you're my role model
[39:39]in life show them that appreciation in in the trunk of your
[39:45]car put 5050 gifts I literally mean it and every time you
[39:47]walk home go give them a gift now your dad is disappointed
[39:52]you're not becoming a doctor but when he sees every single day
[39:54]you're going out of your way to kiss his hand to respect
[39:58]him to serve him to love him you'll soften him at the
[40:00]end of the day he has a human heart you'll soften him
[40:03]soften him okay he may still not like the fact that you're
[40:06]becoming an engineer but at least you've softened his position that is
[40:11]an obligation on us to do if I know my parents are
[40:13]being hurt because of a decision I've made even though I believe
[40:16]it's the right decision I still have an obligation to please them
[40:21]to soften them even if it means I have to go out
[40:25]of my way call them five times a day bombard them just
[40:27]show them that you love them you care about them believe me
[40:31]it works they'll appreciate it because you're reminding them that you respect
[40:36]them okay you couldn't follow through with that job that they wanted
[40:40]but at least you respect them take their advice on a regular
[40:42]basis now if they give you bad advice fine don't implement it
[40:46]but at least get advice from them that would be my recommendation
[40:50]what answerers ha beautiful um all right we'll take a a question
[40:54]from the brothers um just for that question for the sister ask
[41:06]for the like to avoid the opposite gender like even the medical
[41:11]like there's medical gun they can wear it so in this way
[41:14]their arm is like the medical gloves uh even gown like oh
[41:18]the medical gown you can wear it it's going to be longer
[41:21]sleeve so that's kind of avoid har in question for mu um
[41:25]it's mentioned like especially when you like family gathering with your relatives
[41:29]your cousins from gender how would you deal with it the brother
[41:35]is asking about or or joking as we know joking with the
[41:40]opposite gender is Haram if you're a guy and you are joking
[41:45]with a girl who's not Maham to you that would be Haram
[41:49]a girl joking with a guy that is Haram that is considered
[41:54]a sin how do we navigate that and what is joking now
[41:57]joking really doesn't need any definition in any society Community we know
[42:02]what joking is Right sometimes it's a comment sometimes it's a joke
[42:06]sometimes you know it's uh the way you address something it's a
[42:11]joke that makes the person laugh right that's a joke joking with
[42:15]the opposite gender is Haram first of all why one of the
[42:20]easiest ways to penetrate the heart of someone is through humor and
[42:24]jokes right you break the eyes quickly now sometimes that's good you
[42:28]need to break the ice right but sometimes it gets out of
[42:34]control and I see it instantaneously if a boy and a girl
[42:36]they're joking feelings develop and then that leads to a Haram relationship
[42:40]and then it leads to all sorts of consequences so that's the
[42:46]primary reason why joking is Haram because statistically it it leads to
[42:51]other Haram as much as you try even if your intentions are
[42:53]good a and not is tied in the heart now maybe your
[42:59]intention is good you the guy you're humorous you're joking in the
[43:01]presence of a girl say my intention is good your intention is
[43:06]good but what if she now developed feeling feelings for you you're
[43:10]responsible for that now are you aware of the consequences or no
[43:17]so that's one reason why joking is Haram now let's get to
[43:21]some applications if you're in a public setting like in a gathering
[43:24]okay and there's let's say brothers and sisters in that Gathering and
[43:29]you state the joke not directed at a certain member of the
[43:34]opposite gender it's like in a gathering that's fine that would not
[43:37]qualify as a Haram joke like let's say here we're in this
[43:40]setting and someone makes a joke appropriate joke of course right that
[43:44]would be okay but if privately a man and a woman privately
[43:49]either face to face or on text message if you are joking
[43:52]directly that would be Haram that would be a sin so you
[43:57]need to ask Allah to forgive you from that and you need
[44:02]to avoid it now you can be polite and nice there's a
[44:05]difference between joking and being nice let's say you are a real
[44:08]estate agent and you need to be nice to your customers you're
[44:11]a doctor you need to be nice be nice be nice smile
[44:16]say something kind show Humanity but you don't necessarily need to joke
[44:21]right if it's very mild humor such that Society does not regard
[44:24]it as a joke but it regard regards it as just being
[44:29]nice that's acceptable that's fine but if you're actually joking that that
[44:35]would not be okay just be confident compliment oh yes yeah confidently
[44:39]say a compliment that's fine but of course an appropriate compliment yeah
[44:43]like the guy who told the sister you are like the Kaa
[44:50]I can look at you all day long or the brother who
[44:55]told the sister now I know why Allah made hijab waj [Laughter]
[45:00]appropriate Compliments are okay of course he intended to marry her so
[45:07]we'll give him a pass this time all right um we'll take
[45:12]a question from the sisters and then insh we'll go to the
[45:15]well yeah so I'm considered very religious and I grew up very
[45:39]religious but I have friends that are like me but they don't
[45:42]have the same viewpoints as me and when I speak about my
[45:48]religious views like music and dating I often get laughed at and
[45:50]I don't really know how to like properly address that and tell
[45:55]them hey like like I don't I really know how to respond
[45:57]to that so I was wondering how you would uh take that
[46:02]that's a very relevant and important question in our modern society many
[46:08]times for those who are practicing and religious you find yourself in
[46:13]a setting or an environment where your friends or family members see
[46:18]you as being a bit extreme too religious so if you tell
[46:20]them you know dating is Haram this is Haram they'll actually laugh
[46:24]at you they'll mock you they'll make fun of you they won't
[46:27]take you seriously viously they'll tell you I've heard all of that
[46:33]right how do you navigate that number one the first step always
[46:36]be confident with the truth don't let anyone weaken you that's extremely
[46:41]important because that could be your trial that's why has a very
[46:47]profound and beautiful Hadith he States never feel lonely abandoned in the
[46:58]path of truth because very few people are walking in that path
[47:02]every single day wake up with this Hadith so if your friends
[47:08]your environment is making fun of you because you're religious because you're
[47:09]maintaining your religious grounds never be weakened know that by maintaining your
[47:16]grounds first of all you're pleasing Allah subhana wa ta'ala you're building
[47:22]your own and you're getting the and look at the life of
[47:28]all prophets all prophets most Society went against them and very few
[47:32]people actually supported their message and they supported their cause Allah in
[47:37]the Holy Quran praises the minority who are practicing and they're God-fearing
[47:42]so every day feel proud don't be weakened yaah Allah I'm proud
[47:46]that you chose me to observe my religious values and to maintain
[47:53]my religious grounds that's the first step the Second Step whenever you
[47:58]talk to your friends try not to come off as lecturing them
[48:01]cuz that's what they hate that's what they hate you can be
[48:07]very creative with your speech and getting the point across it all
[48:12]depends on how you say it they say once there was a
[48:14]king who saw a dream that I don't know one of his
[48:18]tooth broke or fell so he brought the dream interpreters to tell
[48:21]him what's going on the first one told him the the meaning
[48:26]of that dream according to what I know is all your family
[48:29]are going to die the King was so upset and frustrated like
[48:32]put this guy in jail he just ruined my day crazy King
[48:36]so they brought him another guy to interpret his dream the other
[48:39]guy was slick he didn't want to end up in jail he
[48:43]told him this is a very good dream he told him how
[48:47]I was told it's bad he like no it means Allah is
[48:48]going to give you such a long life you'll outlive all of
[48:55]your family it's the same thing right the first guy just gave
[48:59]it to him there bar and there right you're everybody's you're going
[49:02]to see the death of all your family members the second guy
[49:07]said it nicely it all depends on how you say it if
[49:09]they're mocking something show them humbleness show them Humanity in fact in
[49:14]fact get their advice let's say they're talking about dating okay tell
[49:18]them let's talk about dating I really want to learn from you
[49:20]guys like what's the benefit of dating teach me see say it
[49:24]humbly get them to brainstorm with you and then find a window
[49:27]to explain to them what the negative consequences are and if they're
[49:32]not really willing to listen to Quran and Hadith go do research
[49:38]show them you know statistics from society show them studies from what's
[49:43]happening in society what are the pros and cons of dating go
[49:45]and do research on that and you will find a lot of
[49:49]negative consequences that you can share with them that has nothing to
[49:51]do with religion so if you find the appropriate approach there is
[49:56]a way to manage and then there are times when you just
[49:58]have to remain silent sometimes it's just not the opportunity to say
[50:02]anything just smile in their face pray for them and ask Allah
[50:08]to guide them sometimes you just have to do that so we're
[50:12]seven minutes away from ending our program tonight and inshallah we'll continue
[50:16]the discussion tomorrow so we'll take a couple questions um and we're
[50:20]now in the fourth category which is relating to questions about college
[50:25]you know if someone has you know any issues in college um
[50:30]as you you would like to to answer those questions so yeahum
[50:43]I know that yeah yeah so my my question is in college
[50:47]I um I aspire to be like uh uh medical research and
[50:52]coming up with new medicine but the other uh the other day
[50:54]I heard a lecture talking about how uh illnesses is actually a
[51:00]blessing from Allah and I'm starting to think that there's like is
[51:04]there even a point in going in discovering like new medicine for
[51:06]these illnesses if in the end of the day this is from
[51:10]Allah and this is what Allah wants this is Allah's will you
[51:12]know so uh at I am a college student that's what I'm
[51:16]going into and I feel like any medical field in general has
[51:18]that same issue where anything that happens to a human being is
[51:24]from the will of Allah so is there a point in going
[51:26]into to that and researching and you know discovering about that that's
[51:31]a very valid question if bless if an illness or sickness is
[51:36]a blessing from Allah because it's a trial from Allah then why
[51:40]bother see a doctor get medication or even go into the medical
[51:43]field right in fact why would we say why why would I
[51:52]say that if it's a blessing from Allah T that's a very
[51:55]valid question there is no doubt that diseases are blessings first of
[52:01]all they remind you you're not staying here forever Allah did not
[52:07]create you for this world diseases are a reminder secondly diseases humble
[52:12]us there are many arrogant people who became humble through diseases number
[52:17]three sometimes diseases they remind you of your relationship with Allah and
[52:23]because of the disease you discover your lord I remember once a
[52:28]sister may Allah bless her soul she struggled with cancer for like
[52:32]a decade initially she broke down when she found out that she
[52:34]had cancer but then later she said yaah Allah I thank you
[52:39]for this trial as bad as it is I thank you because
[52:43]before cancer I did not know who you are now I know
[52:44]who you are same with disabilities like parents who've told me say
[52:50]you know it was unfortunate to have a disabled child but after
[52:52]caring for the disabled child I actually discovered Allah subhana tala I
[52:57]became more compassionate father or mother I appreciated the blessings of life
[53:01]more so there's definitely all these blessings and that's not to State
[53:05]the reward that you get for going through an illness like the
[53:08]Hadith that states if you know the reward on the day of
[53:13]judgment when you see the reward of sleeping one night with fever
[53:17]and you know fever is not the end of the world there's
[53:21]many worse illnesses that you can experience on the day of judgment
[53:25]you would wish that you were sick your whole life when you
[53:29]see the reward that Allah gave you for sleeping one night with
[53:33]fever because Allah compensates th those who suffer having said that it
[53:39]doesn't mean that you don't try to find a cure in the
[53:43]religion of Islam Allah has recommended us to relieve the suffering of
[53:46]humanity one of the best Deeds you can do is to relieve
[53:51]the suffering of humanity so it's a trial from Allah but Allah
[53:53]wants you to bring relief to the people because when you search
[53:59]for a cure and you bring relief to people that strengthens your
[54:03]human bonds and it actually strengthens your Humanity because it reminds you
[54:09]you're all one family have each other's back help one another it
[54:12]increases your faith it makes the world a better place so Allah
[54:17]wants you to search for a cure and if you do arrive
[54:18]at a cure and you help others that's one of the best
[54:23]acts of worship that you can do so yes disease is a
[54:24]trial it can be a blessing for from Allah but it doesn't
[54:28]mean that we go and spread disease out there in society right
[54:31]y if it's a blessing let me go and make people sick
[54:35]no Allah expects expects me to relieve the suffering of people so
[54:38]the trial comes from him but your role is to relieve the
[54:43]suffering of people that's the best way that you can worship Allah
[54:46]thank you s for that wonderful answer um one last question and
[54:52]we'll take it from the sisters and inshallah we'll end the program
[54:54]once again if the S didn't wasn't ble to get to your
[54:57]question don't worry um he'll get to it tomorrow inshallah and we
[55:02]have to respect the Sage's time because he does have a few
[55:06]uh appointments um yeah um sorry I had a question regarding Fitness
[55:14]with in like mixed settings if you're in college and like you
[55:19]don't have any other place to work out and it has to
[55:20]be with men and women or like if you want to run
[55:24]outside or like ride a bike is that must or is it
[55:27]Mak or like permissible or what's the stance on that so if
[55:30]you're in a college setting and you want to work out and
[55:35]the place that you're working at whether it's a gym or outside
[55:37]in a park you are in the presence of the opposite gender
[55:43]are you allowed to work out or no first of all it
[55:45]depends on your attire if you're wearing loose clothes that do not
[55:53]reveal the shape of your body which is almost non-existent in our
[55:56]gyms these days in America but if that's the case you're wearing
[55:59]loose fitting clothes that's not revealing the shape of your body technically
[56:05]it's permissible you're not violating the law of hijab you're in full
[56:08]hijab and you're wearing clothes that are not showing the shape of
[56:14]the body now why do I stress that because when you're working
[56:16]out you will be in positions that will show the shape of
[56:19]your body and so if there are men out there who are
[56:23]potentially seeing that that would not be permissible so if you can
[56:26]find like a corner you know for sure no one's going to
[56:31]see you that's fine or if you're wearing extra loose clothes such
[56:34]that you're confident the shape of the body is not going to
[56:39]show that's fine that would be okay so as long as you
[56:41]verify all of that it would be okay but I don't know
[56:45]if a lot of people are actually going to observe that if
[56:49]you don't think that's practical it would not be okay you know
[56:51]just try to find a private setting to work out either in
[56:54]your apartment or just get together with with you know some other
[56:59]sisters and see if you can rent a place sure maybe it'll
[57:01]cost you more but Allah appreciates that writing a bike the same
[57:06]thing riding a bike in public for a girl is not Haram
[57:08]if she's in full hijab if she's not revealing the shape of
[57:13]her body the shape of the legs that would be okay so
[57:16]if you're wearing pants that are very loose such that the shape
[57:21]of the legs are not being revealed that would be okay if
[57:24]not then yeah it would violate the the laws of hijab thank
[57:29]you s um all right thank you all for joining us today

[57:45]our time and recite Dua everyone everyone together oh Allah forgive us

[58:37]pray for your brothers and sisters and the women and the children

[58:42]them inallah we'll see you tomorrow night in our Q&A session and
