[0:01][Music] respected brothers and sisters the topic that is uh designated for

[0:35]tonight is the topic of repentance and since likewise today Friday was

[0:44]the martyrum of our fifth Imam I'll also at the end speak

[0:51]a little about imak now when it comes to the topic of

[0:53]repentance repenting to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala asking him to forgive us

[0:58]of our sins now there's so many many things we can say

[1:03]we can you know write books about this give many lectures about

[1:05]that and I don't I don't have too much time because it's

[1:10]only about half an hour or less and I want to speak

[1:11]about IM Bak as well so I will just go over some

[1:17]brief points inshallah I'd like to share with you a beautiful Hadith

[1:21]about repentance many people they ask Will Allah subhana tala forgive me

[1:25]I've committed so many sins and I have such a dark history

[1:31]when I was younger especially when we grow older we become more

[1:35]wise sometimes we go closer to Allah and we're not very proud

[1:38]of our history so we have these questions will Allah subhana wa

[1:42]tala forgive me if I truly would turn to him and ask

[1:44]him for repentance or not and like I said there's so manyi

[1:48]so many verses so many things that we can mention about this

[1:52]but I I'd like to share this Hadith there's a Hadith from

[1:55]IM Ali where he's narrated defining a true sincere Toba repentance if

[2:03]I Repent in the way that IM aliam says then Allah subhana

[2:05]wa tala guarantees that he will forgive us because Allah says in

[2:11]the Holy Quran he says all you who have disobeyed Allah sinned

[2:19]so much too much do not despair do not be despondent of

[2:25]the mercy of Allah for Allah forgives all of the sins he

[2:28]says Allah will forgive every single sin that you have no matter

[2:36]how much they are but Allah doesn't say in detail how I

[2:40]Repent to him so that the Hadith of the IM explains to

[2:42]us because if I want to repent to Allah I have to

[2:46]be sincere about it and I can't be playing games and it

[2:48]can't be just a word I say and I don't mean it

[2:51]so thei of IMI he [Music] says there are four conditions to

[3:00]your Toba number one he says number one you have to be

[3:06]feel sorry about what you did you have to have you have

[3:08]to have that remorse inside you feel guilty if I'm proud about

[3:13]the sin that I did of course Allah won't forgive me so

[3:16]number one it pertains my heart I have to feel sorry and

[3:21]no one can fake that Allah knows if I truly am sorry

[3:26]if I truly regret what I did I have that remorse and

[3:27]guilt or not so number one the says I have to feel

[3:32]sorry about what I did that's step one step two the IM

[3:38]says number one we said it's the heart number two comes the

[3:44]tongue your mouth Allah wants you to show it express that you're

[3:47]sorry say Ya Allah I'm sorry say it don't just think about

[3:53]it Allah wants you to say it say Allah forgive me I

[3:55]didn't you know I wasn't thinking the right way or or whatever

[4:01]just tell Allah subhah wa tala that you are sorry and don't

[4:03]make excuses don't say oh I was young I didn't no no

[4:09]say Ya Allah I was wrong I was wrong and I want

[4:13]you to forgive my wrong I want you to forgive my sin

[4:15]so be straightforward with Allah tell him tell him that all those

[4:21]sins that I did no matter what they were I feel sorry

[4:22]about that and Ya Allah I ask you to forgive me and

[4:27]one of the best ways to do that is to read the

[4:31]duas ofit so much duas of they teach us how to ask

[4:32]for forgiveness especially if you speak Arabic if you don't read the

[4:40]translation so beautiful there is one from IM called This is the

[4:44]Dua of the those that want to repent so beautifully the Imam

[4:48]teaches us how to speak to Allah how to ask him for

[4:53]forgive forgiveness and for repentance so this is number two number one

[4:57]we said the heart feel sorry number two the tongue say it

[5:02]number three the IM says you have to make a commitment that

[5:08]you will never do that sin again if I did a sin

[5:12]today I say Allah I'm sorry I feel bad bad about it

[5:15]but I know I want to do it tomorrow too that's not

[5:19]a true repentance I'm playing games with Allah so I have to

[5:22]make a true commitment that I will never commit that sin again

[5:27]if I did commit it again it should be a slip it

[5:28]should be a mistake not intentionally or else if it's intentionally that

[5:33]means I'm playing games so this is number three I have to

[5:36]tell yaah Allah when I made that sin I feel bad about

[5:40]it I'm returning to you I'm admitting that I did wrong but

[5:44]now I want to come back to you I want you to

[5:45]forgive me and I promise if you forgive me I will never

[5:49]do that sin again it's difficult to stay away from the Haram

[5:52]it's difficult for me to resist my desires and temptations and the

[5:58]Haram but I will do it for you Ya Allah but I

[5:59]want you to help me ask Allah to help you tell him

[6:03]to give you the Courage the the ability to say no to

[6:09]always stay away from the Haram what displeases Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

[6:16]and make that promise unfortunately you find many of us when the

[6:19]holy days of the year come like the days of Ash or

[6:23]the days of Ramadan the night of power the day ofid we

[6:26]turn to Allah but what happens after that does it make a

[6:31]change in our life no you see him 40 5050 years he

[6:32]attends program Ramadan program but nothing changes why because we're forgetting about

[6:39]this we're not making that promise to Allah that I want to

[6:41]change as soon as those holy days finish Ramadan we go right

[6:47]back to our old habits we we learn nothing from these programs

[6:51]and if we do we don't apply them the third point which

[6:56]is one of the most important points is that we make a

[6:58]promise that we're going to make a change in our life I'm

[7:02]not going to ask you for forgiveness and then go right back

[7:05]to what where I was no I there has to be a

[7:08]change in my life I have to make that promise this is

[7:13]number three and finally the Imam says number four the fourth condition

[7:18]if you want Allah to truly forgive you he says you had

[7:23]the so the the sorrow or the the guilt in the heart

[7:29]and then you said it and you made that commitment now Allah

[7:31]wants you to express it and show it through actions how how

[7:36]does one show through his actions that he's sorry let me give

[7:39]an example let's say I take a a hammer and I break

[7:46]someone's car or let's say I don't do it intentionally but I

[7:49]crash into his car but I'm theault and leave an insurance out

[7:53]of this let's say there's no insurance and then I tell him

[7:55]I'm sorry now if I tell him I'm sorry and I'm truly

[8:00]sorry what would that mean I would offer to fix it correct

[8:02]let's say I break something in his house oh I'm sorry and

[8:06]that's it no I should at least offer to fix it correct

[8:08]I'll fix it I'll pay you for it so I have to

[8:13]show through my actions that I'm sorry if I just say I'm

[8:16]sorry I'm not I'm not going to pay for it I'm not

[8:18]really sorry correct so any times with Allah if I have committed

[8:25]a Haram I have wronged Allah or wronged an individual I have

[8:30]to what I have to fix my errors what do I mean

[8:36]let's say I never prayed for a few years now I want

[8:38]to pray I return to Allah I'll I'll stay away from not

[8:44]praying that means I'll always start praying but the prayers that I

[8:47]missed I have to make them up if I make them up

[8:51]Allah says okay this person is sincere I'll forgive him I have

[8:55]to start making it up even if it takes a long time

[8:57]at least start or for example I never went to Hajj I

[9:02]could go to Hajj I had the money I would always make

[9:04]excuses okay I'm sorry go to Hajj now don't just say I'm

[9:09]sorry and not go go to hudge another example I stole someone's

[9:12]money or I took a loan from someone and I never gave

[9:17]it back I have to give people their you know their uh

[9:20]their money back or I have wronged someone in any way I

[9:25]back bited against that person I hurt someone's feelings whatever I have

[9:29]to go and ask that person to forgive me or if I

[9:33]can't I I can't reach that person or it's too difficult and

[9:35]awkward I have to do a good deed for that person even

[9:39]if it's a small 5-second good deed for him for example say

[9:42]Ya Allah I ask you to forgive that person's sins so any

[9:48]errors that we make we have to fix those errors we have

[9:50]to make up for the sins that we made let me share

[9:53]you a story here with you there was a man that lived

[9:59]thousand years ago his name was Bish he lived during the time

[10:03]of our seventh IM IM and he was a follower of but

[10:10]he was he wasn't a practicing Shia he was a wealthy man

[10:17]his house was in Bagdad in Iraq and his house every night

[10:20]he had a party in his house he would bring slaves he

[10:24]would bring women dancers alcohol and you know what so one night

[10:27]IM when he was in Bagdad the Hadith says he was walking

[10:33]on on a street in a street one day and then he

[10:37]comes across the house of this man so the Imam begins to

[10:43]hear laughing and music and you know he's he knows that this

[10:45]there's a party going on here so the Imam is you know

[10:50]he's disappointed so while he's passing he sees a woman comes from

[10:55]the back door and the Imam obviously could tell back then there

[10:59]were slaves he could tell tell this is a slave maybe from

[11:01]what she was wearing or because she was taking the garbage out

[11:05]back then only slaves would do that so anyway so he knew

[11:08]she was a slave so he the IM he quickly asked her

[11:19]a question he said to whom does this house belong to she

[11:23]said it belongs to my my master the man that owes me

[11:28]and he said what's his name she said his name is Bishop

[11:34]so the Imam told her is your master a free man or

[11:38]is he a slave so she's like she's confused what is the

[11:40]Im talking she didn't know who the Imam was he owns me

[11:44]he's my master so how could he be a slave a slave

[11:45]can't be a master you're either a slave or a master though

[11:49]so she told him that this house belongs to my master the

[11:51]Imam answer is your master a slave or a free man she

[11:55]told him of course he's a free man she didn't know what

[11:58]the Imam was saying so the IM told her you're right he's

[12:03]a free man because if he was a slave to Allah he

[12:05]would have been ashamed to commit all these sins right in front

[12:10]of Allah he's he's not a slave to Allah subhana T because

[12:12]a slave is obedient to his master we are all servants and

[12:15]slaves of Allah but look at what he's doing when he said

[12:19]that she was shocked you saw this person is not normal he's

[12:21]so holy these were words of wisdom so she quickly ran back

[12:26]and she told her master Bish what she saw Bish he knew

[12:29]this man cannot be except IM he knows the IM he's just

[12:35]not practicing he has the knowledge so he knew no one has

[12:38]the knowledge and the wisdom but the Imam to say such beautiful

[12:41]words so he quickly ran out he saw the imam's far he

[12:47]started to run after him and he told him to wait the

[12:48]Imam just ignored him until he caught up to him he told

[12:51]him why did you say I'm not a why did you tell

[12:54]my slave that I am not a slave of Allah of course

[12:55]I'm a slave of Allah I'm honored to be a slave of

[12:59]Allah every day in Salah do not we say that I bear

[13:06]witness that our Prophet Muhammad s alai is what is a slave

[13:09]and a messenger of Allah we say slave before messenger being a

[13:15]slave of Allah is the most honorable title and position a slave

[13:17]of Allah because he's the only entity worth worthy of of worshiping

[13:22]and being my master so he tells him of course I'm a

[13:25]slave of Allah the IM tells him no you're not you're not

[13:29]act acting like a slave of Allah you're act you're a slave

[13:31]of your desires what your desires want you do your desires say

[13:36]go this way you go this way I want to eat this

[13:40]you eat this your desires are in control your desires are the

[13:42]master it's not Allah Allah is telling you do this and that

[13:44]you ignore that your desires want this and that you follow your

[13:50]desires so how are you a slave of Allah and not of

[13:53]your desires he tells him you are worshiping your desires so when

[13:57]the IM you Subhan Allah such men like the of it just

[14:00]requires two three words 2 three minutes and and that person will

[14:05]transform he'll change this man was so affected and moved he went

[14:09]back and he saw you know the Imam is right all these

[14:13]years I'm committing all these sins and I'm a slave of Allah

[14:16]and I have completely ignored my master how rude is that so

[14:23]he quickly kicked everybody out and they say this man M transformed

[14:29]completely from being you know the man that hosted a party every

[14:32]night in his house and being so disobedient to Allah he transformed

[14:35]from that to being one of the closest Servants of Allah his

[14:43]house turned into a Masjid he want he would be the first

[14:45]one at the Masjid the last one to leave the most holy

[14:49]person he would always be carrying a sub and praising and glorifying

[14:53]Allah always praying so holy just a few words a few lines

[14:56]completely changed it so you see how this man he felt bad

[15:03]about what he had done all his life was a waste and

[15:08]far from Allah few words from the IM he felt that guilt

[15:10]he turned to Allah and he made that transformation he showed it

[15:15]so he did not continue on transgressing and disobeying Allah and he

[15:21]changed his life so if I brothers and sisters want Allah subhana

[15:24]T's grace and mercy I want him to forgive me and I

[15:29]have to follow these steps show the sorrow say it make that

[15:31]commitment and if I have wronged anyone or wronged Allah have errors

[15:38]I have to try my best to fix it and as we

[15:42]know one of the best one of the best days or one

[15:44]of the best places where Allah subhana T forgives our sins is

[15:50]where is in Hajj these are the Hajj days Hajj will begin

[15:54]on um Sunday and Allah subh theth speaks so much about the

[16:02]day of which is the nth day of Sunday and how Allah

[16:07]subhana will forgive everyone of their sins whoever goes and attends that

[16:12]place called Arafat in Mecca outside of Mecca Allah forgives that person

[16:17]of all his sins but however the day of is not just

[16:23]for the the day of is a holy day for everyone and

[16:25]I was reading a Hadith from one of the imams he was

[16:29]asked about the day of he said the day of is a

[16:33]holiday for us it's a day of Celebration he calls it and

[16:36]then he tells the narrator he tells them this is a day

[16:40]of Dua do Dua on the day of even if you're not

[16:45]in you're here do Dua just like the correct no matter where

[16:50]we are we take some hours to prostrate to worship Allah day

[16:54]of is it's not as great as but it's very holy very

[17:00]great so on a day like Sunday we should take the opportunity

[17:03]there are some there's a beautiful Dua of IM there's a few

[17:09]prayers there's a few things that are mentioned in the books of

[17:13]like but most importantly ask Allah to forgive you because Allah is

[17:21]more inclined to forgive you he's more lenient on such days so

[17:24]ask Allah subhana T to clear your history make that commitment and

[17:28]and start a new page with the almighty Allah subhanahu wa taala

[17:34]and remember brothers and sisters the Hadith of the Prophet says if

[17:43]you want Allah subhanahu waala to forgive you then be forgiving with

[17:49]other human beings you know there are certain people they have so

[17:54]much hope in Allah that Allah will forgive them of their sins

[17:58]but but they themselves are so strict with other human beings they

[18:03]will not forgive other people if someone wrongs me I won't forgive

[18:06]them I won't forget I won't forgive I'll hold a grudge throughout

[18:09]my life my entire life if I want to be like that

[18:14]hold everyone accountable for anything wrong they did against me then how

[18:17]do I expect Allah to forgive me you want Allah to forgive

[18:22]you you forgive other people it's a you know it's a mutual

[18:25]way it's both ways you forgive others Allah forgives you and that's

[18:29]why one Hadith says that Allah subhanahu wa taala the Hadith says

[18:35]if someone does you wrong and he comes and he asks you

[18:41]for forgiveness he says I'm sorry but you do not accept and

[18:44]he's a sincere person he's not just saying it then the Hadith

[18:47]says you will not attain my sha the prophet says my sha

[18:53]my intercession will not be given to those people that do not

[18:55]forgive so if I want is extra sha is is is a

[19:01]form of forgiveness from Allah given through the holy prophets and the

[19:03]IMs if you want Allah's forgiveness then forgive other people and that's

[19:10]why you see the imams of are imams they would always they

[19:13]were always so forgiving every IM look at how much wrong was

[19:19]done against them they would always respond with what with good they

[19:24]would always respond against evil with good and likewise imak am which

[19:29]I mentioned today was his the day of his martydom he was

[19:34]also full of Mercy full of forgiveness one day a man a

[19:41]Christian man the Hadith says he sees imak walking and he wants

[19:44]to insult the IM what does he say he comes and he

[19:46]tells him the name of the IM the title of the IM

[19:55]is taken from the root word y means the one that sheds

[20:02]something so why was he called Al the one who sheds or

[20:06]Cuts he was named this by the prophet because he was the

[20:09]one that began to spread the teachings of B so the prophet

[20:15]called him because he's the one that basically shed through knowledge it's

[20:19]like knowledge was untouched he opened knowledge and began to spread it

[20:22]so imagine you have knowledge contained in one place he shed it

[20:24]and spread it so he he was called Al the one who

[20:29]shed and spread so this man is insulting them what is he

[20:31]telling he tells them are you means a cow he's basically you

[20:36]know making fun of him changing it to so imagine someone comes

[20:41]and you have a name and there's you know there's a similar

[20:43]name which is you know disrespectful and someone calls you by that

[20:47]name what would you do some people would start a fight you

[20:51]go punch that person whatever look at how calm how forgiving he

[20:55]tells him no that I'm not Bak I'm Bak you see so

[21:00]easily so nicely the Imam acts in a serious way he knows

[21:04]he's insulting him but he corrects it he tells him no I'm

[21:08]not B I'm the Man continues he saw the IM forgave him

[21:13]he didn't say anything but he continued he told him is it

[21:16]true your mother and then he speaks against his mother so do

[21:20]you know what the IM does here can you imagine someone comes

[21:23]and he insults your mother what would we do this is when

[21:25]we're tested this is when we have to show forgiveness the IM

[21:30]tells him you know what if you're right if what you're saying

[21:33]is right about my mother then I ask Allah to forgive her

[21:36]but if what you're saying against my mother is wrong and you're

[21:39]lying and slandering her then I ask Allah to forgive you do

[21:45]you know how much how effective this man was he thought to

[21:52]himself how patient how tolerant how merciful is this man no matter

[21:55]what I do to him I can't get him to you know

[21:59]get angry and start a fight he's so calm he's so peaceful

[22:01]he's so tolerant and forgiving this is how the IMs of and

[22:06]there are similar stories with many of our imams how they would

[22:10]come and they would insult them the Imam would would you know

[22:14]respond with beautiful words he would offer to help that person who's

[22:17]insulting him can you imagine if we all followed this method in

[22:21]our lives how much peace would there be in this world what

[22:26]a beautiful image would we give to Islam and specifically to the

[22:29]school of thought of anytime someone insults me I respond with nice

[22:33]words this these are the teachings of and this is IM and

[22:41]the rest of the IMs of brothers and sisters our time has

[22:46]finished once again I'd like to remind you of a few points

[22:52]uh number one like I mentioned Sunday the day of do not

[22:57]waste that day it's a you know it's a weekend and we

[22:58]most of us no school or work so at least do some

[23:02]read the Dua of IM Hussein it's mentioned in type it on

[23:07]Google you you'll get it in Arabic and English and and whatever

[23:09]language you want or go on YouTube and you can hear it

[23:13]and ask Allah for forgiveness do some good deeds read Quran Dua

[23:18]VI that's number one number two Monday will be the day of

[23:24]um and there is a Salat there's a like the day of

[23:31]it's it's not it's recommended but um I encourage all of you

[23:34]to pray now of course if someone follow that will be Sunday

[23:39]morning as for someone that follows any other it'll be Monday and

[23:43]i' would also like to remind you of next week next week

[23:51]will will be and inah I'll be speaking at that uh program

[23:54]I think it will be in vintage B correct which is right

[23:58]next door here next Friday night and I believe you'll have you

[24:00]have to buy a ticket if you want to attend it's a

[24:04]special program brothers and sisters I'm going to mention this is the

[24:09]most important holiday Muslims have if I were to ask you what's

[24:12]the most important holiday you have we would probably say they have

[24:15]right wrong the imams numerous occasions they would always say the greatest

[24:22]for you is not unfortunately we do not reflect that were so

[24:29]happy because no more fasting you find have the hall is filled

[24:32]or you don't find all the centers commemorating or are not that

[24:37]happy we have to show that this is the number one holiday

[24:40]for us it's the day when IMI was appointed as our imif

[24:45]in the story of that I'll mention in next week so I

[24:50]encourage you number one attend number two even if you don't attend

[24:53]or if you attend treat that day as a huge holiday I

[24:58]mean show it however you spend your holidays show that this is

[25:02]the greatest holiday out of the year for me
