[0:14]so um foreign foreign one of the most important functions of religion

[1:33]is to give us an honorable life when we worship allah when

[1:40]we follow the laws and the orders of god we are respecting

[1:46]ourselves we are giving ourself the soul its haqq we are giving

[1:55]allah his rights his haqq and we are respecting society we are

[2:01]respecting others we're living at peace with ourselves with our lord and

[2:05]with others this is why you see that there are many social

[2:09]laws in islam the laws of salat rahim connection with the family

[2:15]the respect of the neighbors the laws of interaction the laws of

[2:18]eating and drinking and amongst the laws are the laws of the

[2:27]clothing the hijab and the way we dress and the way we

[2:30]act in public and the way we speak and interact with people

[2:34]because allah wa ta'ala has honored and dignified the human being allah

[2:40]has given us the religion and the laws to live by allah

[2:45]says and we have dignified and given honor to the children of

[2:54]adam one of the means that allah has dignified the human being

[2:58]is by making the human being different from animals today you see

[3:05]one of animals they don't wear anything they have their own fur

[3:09]they don't cover up whereas the human being allah subhanahu wa ta'ala

[3:14]has given the human being one means of honoring the human being

[3:18]and that's the clothing allah says of adam we have bestowed upon

[3:38]you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment so it's

[3:44]a covering and it's a form of beautification and the clothing of

[3:50]righteousness and the garment of piety that is best that is from

[3:57]the signs of allah perhaps they will remember so we see that

[4:02]the quran discusses two types of clothing one is the physical garment

[4:10]that's the physical garment and in addition to that there is the

[4:18]non-physical and that is the garment of piety the garment of righteousness

[4:22]which is a form of hijab as well and it applies to

[4:26]hijab as well now my dear brothers and sisters the subject of

[4:33]hijab is one of the more controversial subjects for islam and for

[4:40]muslims especially in a predominantly non-muslim country many muslims they feel the

[4:46]pressure of the hijab and the hijab is highlighted whereas in a

[4:50]predominantly muslim country you find that if someone's wearing or not wearing

[4:53]the person who's wearing hijab does not stand out whereas in a

[4:58]non-muslim country the one who is observing hijab usually they stand out

[5:02]and that makes it difficult for them today we see one of

[5:06]the points of attack on islam and misconceptions raised against islam and

[5:12]the quran is the hijab itself some say that the hijab is

[5:18]a means that will that will take away the opportunities from woman

[5:24]and it's a form of misogyny and oppression against women this is

[5:31]one side and another point of struggle is within the muslims themselves

[5:34]within the muslim families you find that the subject of hijab is

[5:41]one that causes struggles within within families between a father and daughter

[5:46]husband and wife between parents and their children where it causes some

[5:55]friction today there are some who struggle with hijab who struggles with

[5:59]hijab is it only women that struggle with hijab no men and

[6:05]women struggle with hijab we falsely assume that hijab is something that

[6:09]only applies to women whereas hijab applies to men and women today

[6:14]many men break the laws of hijab how when they don't lower

[6:18]their gaze when they don't protect their modesty when they look at

[6:22]everyone and everything that passes by the addiction to pornography the addiction

[6:28]to looking at women who are unlawful to look at in a

[6:33]in a seductive way that is breaking the laws of hijab it's

[6:37]unfortunate that many people don't talk about that they only focus on

[6:42]a lady when she is not wearing the head cover and she's

[6:46]not wearing the actual hijab some people only pay attention to that

[6:50]today one of the points of struggle with regards to the hijab

[6:53]is where the sisters they feel the low self-esteem they feel the

[6:58]pressure is only on them from the non-muslim community they're looking at

[7:02]her she is being highlighted and within the muslim community who most

[7:06]of them do not understand what hijab is many men sometimes a

[7:11]wife or a mother or a daughter her father or her husband

[7:14]or her brothers they are breaking the laws of hijab every day

[7:18]and then they look down upon her oh you have one hair

[7:21]showing here and there now yes hair is not supposed to show

[7:24]from an islamic perspective this is the quran and this is not

[7:29]only something that islam teaches you will find that previous religions before

[7:33]islam they also talked about hijab anytime you look at the picture

[7:38]of mary the mother of jesus you see she's wearing she's dressed

[7:41]modestly she has a head covering on the jews the christians other

[7:47]religions they practice hijab but there is a form of double standard

[7:49]where all of the attention is paid on the ladies and some

[7:53]of the men they are the first to break the hijab so

[7:58]this creates a self-confidence issue this creates self-esteem issue with many and

[8:05]especially the woman and today one of the something that's going on

[8:09]that's kind of troubling is that there are some bloggers and influencers

[8:16]who have millions of followers and some of them they made a

[8:26]following through a through their pages of fashionable hijab saying we have

[8:30]a this is a fashion market fashionable hijab and recently in the

[8:35]past few months and years several of those who made business and

[8:42]they built their name through a fashion hijab industry where many were

[8:47]looking up to them many were watching them many were trying to

[8:50]figure out how to be fashionable and be wearing a hijab at

[8:55]the same time some of those account holders who some of them

[9:00]have over 1 million followers suddenly she comes out and she says

[9:03]i decided to take off my hijab now this my dear brothers

[9:08]and sisters this causes low self-esteem this creates an identity crisis with

[9:12]many muslims today there are some muslim women and men who always

[9:20]break who break the laws of hijab but some women they feel

[9:24]that wearing the hijab is very difficult and it has it creates

[9:29]a self-esteem problem creates many problems for them and an identity crisis

[9:37]and these fashion icons they don't make it better they make it

[9:41]worse for many muslims especially when they all of the sudden come

[9:46]out and decide on taking off their hijab and that motivates many

[9:50]to also do the same now my dear brothers and sisters this

[9:55]issue there are several issues to discuss when it comes to understanding

[10:04]hijab and what is the true hijab today many of those who

[10:08]attack the hijab whether non-muslim or within within from the muslims many

[10:12]of them don't understand what hijab is and this my dear brothers

[10:18]and sisters is because many muslims today cannot differentiate where culture is

[10:24]and where religion is today many muslims don't know what what a

[10:29]cultural issue is and what a religious issue is because many muslims

[10:34]have not learned many muslims don't know what islam expects and what

[10:39]culture expects we come and we bring culture with islam and we

[10:43]say this is all either this is all one cultural thing or

[10:45]this is all one religious thing we need to be able to

[10:51]differentiate we need to be able to understand what the purpose of

[10:54]hijab is what the meaning of hijab is and not only hijab

[10:57]with regards to everything when it comes to our faith when you

[11:03]practice hijab you're not practicing it because of this person or that

[11:13]person practice hijab because allah practice hijab because the quran orders it

[11:17]practice hijab because for yourself not for the sake of other people

[11:21]today when when we are when we have muslims who are blindly

[11:27]following bloggers and what these um these people have millions of followers

[11:35]on instagram and twitter and all of these uh accounts if you're

[11:39]following them and you're wearing hijab because there are they are doing

[11:44]it then the moment they take off their hijab the moment they

[11:47]do something wrong you're also going to fall in that wrong whenever

[11:49]you do anything my dear brothers and sisters this is why intention

[11:53]is very important in islam anything you do if you're praying if

[11:57]you're fasting if you're going to hajj if you're giving charity you

[12:01]have to be doing it for allah subhanahu ta'ala if you're going

[12:04]to be following people then one day they might slip the best

[12:10]of people slip sometimes people they make mistakes they do wrong things

[12:14]this is why we should not be following people these uh those

[12:21]these account holders they don't care for the best interest of the

[12:26]people they care for their own best interests they have a brand

[12:31]to build and sometimes these bloggers they don't care about what people

[12:34]are doing what's going to happen they're just influencers and they're getting

[12:38]paid to influence you they're getting paid to tell you that this

[12:42]is how you should live your life this is how you should

[12:45]dress this is what you should do and this goes against the

[12:47]whole purpose of hijab because the whole purpose of hijab is to

[12:50]tell everyone strangers not of course your husband and those who are

[12:55]the family members and the close ones it's to tell the outsiders

[13:00]i don't want you to define how i look i will define

[13:03]how i look this is what the purpose of hijab is it's

[13:05]liberating yourself from the eyes of other people whereas if a muslim

[13:12]young man or woman is blindly following a blogger in social media

[13:18]then that means you're just following exactly what they're doing so what's

[13:23]the difference with the one who is showing skin by looking at

[13:26]what other other people other bloggers are doing and the difference with

[13:30]the one who's not showing but also following now of course this

[13:33]is a lot better if you're if you're modest however we should

[13:36]not be doing it because we're following other people because when you

[13:41]follow other people other people will slip what's the whole story of

[13:47]imam hussain a man who was claiming to be the khalifa of

[13:50]rasulullah he ended up committing the worst crime in history by killing

[13:54]imam and hussain al-salam if i want to just look at the

[13:57]position oh he's the khalifa then whatever he does is correct then

[14:01]no foundation and no religion will remain this is why i'm he

[14:06]has a very beautiful statement and this happened in the battle of

[14:13]jamal the man was sitting was next to amir and he saw

[14:14]on the other side was aisha and hafsah and zubair so he

[14:18]tells him what's going on there are muslims and we're muslims who

[14:22]who should i follow minion tells him you don't recognize right and

[14:40]wrong from people you're supposed to recognize right and wrong independently of

[14:46]people whether people followed it you will take it if people did

[14:49]not follow it then you will follow it and who cares about

[14:51]what other people did today many muslims they have low self-esteem and

[14:57]not only muslims many of the youth many people we're following people

[15:02]but then what guarantees me that the people are going to be

[15:07]perfect this is why we only have the masome the 14 infallibles

[15:10]and the prophets other than that we should not be following people

[15:14]we should follow our intellect and what allah has given us the

[15:18]the dignity and the quran and the honor that allah has given

[15:24]us so instead of follow following for the peer pressure of others

[15:28]whether it's a hijabi or non-hijabi or a bad friend telling you

[15:32]to take off your hijab a bad friend telling you do this

[15:37]look at this follow yourself follow your dignity and the honor that

[15:42]allah has given you and this is one of the main purposes

[15:49]of hijab furthermore my dear brothers and sisters when it comes to

[15:53]islam we need to know why we're doing something we need to

[15:57]educate ourselves on the purpose and the reason behind the things that

[16:02]we do there are some women some muslim women they say i'm

[16:07]wearing hijab because my father and my mother they made me wear

[16:09]hijab but i don't really know what the purpose is behind it

[16:13]i don't understand it here i don't blame you i blame your

[16:18]father and your mother that they did not teach you the hijab

[16:22]we should not just impose on our children or on peop members

[16:28]of society certain things without explaining to them and using reason and

[16:34]logic explaining to them why we do certain things and what's the

[16:37]purpose behind it and why we have to please allah subhanahu ta'ala

[16:40]and that pleasing allah subhanahu ta'ala is the most important thing everyone

[16:44]else will let you down but god will remain with you so

[16:52]hijab once we begin to understand it we will see that hijab

[16:55]is not for women only hijab is for men and women and

[16:58]allah and surah nur chapter 24 allah first says o o prophet

[17:05]tell the believing men to practice modesty in hijab and lower their

[17:09]gaze and then tell the woman but our cultures tell us that

[17:13]hijab is only for women so we follow our cultures and we

[17:17]leave with the quran says and this is a big issue my

[17:20]dear brothers and sisters if we are sincere followers of the quran

[17:22]then we will know that hijab is equal for men and for

[17:29]women and it's not that the focus is only thrown on women

[17:33]furthermore my dear brothers and sisters hijab is not only the head

[17:38]scarf today some people they have the idea that hijab is the

[17:41]headscarf the headscarf that a lady puts on her head that is

[17:44]the hijab no hijab is the way you dress the way you

[17:51]walk the way you talk your modesty the way you interact with

[17:54]people and this applies with both if a lady should be modest

[17:58]and she should you know no one should look at her body

[18:01]the same goes with men today there are some men that come

[18:05]out in front of everyone shirtless sometimes or dressed in a in

[18:11]a provocative way in a seductive way wearing very tight clothes this

[18:16]is also inappropriate some scholars they say that this could also be

[18:20]haram at times so we have to make sure that we don't

[18:24]have double standards and we only throw the focus and the attention

[18:33]on woman and give men you know a free let them let

[18:36]them have this and there's no question about it no islam says

[18:39]there's laws of modesty and chastity for men and women and the

[18:42]hardest and most difficult hijab for the men is to lower their

[18:48]gaze not look at the haram today there is a problem in

[18:50]many countries there is an addiction problem to pornography to looking at

[18:54]haram that also breaks the laws of hijab so we need to

[18:59]understand the purpose of hijab that the purpose is for the sake

[19:04]of modesty and chastity of the individual the family society the community

[19:08]as a whole this is why allah says when you want to

[19:25]ask a woman who's not mahram meaning she's not your relative she's

[19:28]not your wife she's not your mother she's not your sister she's

[19:31]not related to you and there's no halal legal contract between you

[19:40]and her then you have to practice hijab you have to ask

[19:43]using a barrier let a barrier come between you two in another

[19:51]verse allah says your wives and the believing women to cover themselves

[20:12]throw a jilbab a cover over themselves a loose garment because this

[20:18]is better for their modesty and it's better for society as a

[20:27]whole today there are some that say hijab yes you come and

[20:29]you say hijab is for men and women but the burden is

[20:34]thrown on women why can't a lady reveal her beauty why can't

[20:37]a beauty come out in public and reveal her beauty this is

[20:40]god-given beauty what's wrong with coming and showing something that god created

[20:45]you with first of all my dear brothers and sisters there's nothing

[20:49]wrong with revealing beauty allah has created every single individual beautiful and

[20:56]every single person has the right to be proud of their beauty

[21:01]there's nothing wrong with that however in islam allah says there's a

[21:06]public sphere and a private sphere in the private sphere you can

[21:12]show your beauty you could reveal your beauty and reveal yourself and

[21:18]it's totally lawful and encouraged in some cases there's nothing wrong with

[21:22]that however in the public sphere when lives of others are at

[21:31]stake and society is at stake and there are others that could

[21:38]be potentially hurt or distracted then here we need to apply the

[21:44]law that is safest for everyone common sense dictates this my dear

[21:47]brothers and sisters today in our homes we don't have to wear

[21:52]masks we don't have to practice social distancing in our homes but

[21:54]when we go out to a public place common sense and the

[22:01]law tells us you have to practice social distancing you have to

[22:05]wear the mask why because you could hurt someone else you could

[22:08]cause greater harm to society as a whole and then society will

[22:14]suffer society will collapse families will collapse people could die if you're

[22:17]not wearing a mask if you're not practicing social distancing the same

[22:22]applies my dear brothers and sisters with modesty and the laws of

[22:28]modesty and hijab there are some things that we cannot do in

[22:31]public can you go out walk around naked walk around nude in

[22:35]public no because this will break the fabric of society there are

[22:41]laws every community every group of people they have certain laws that

[22:46]that are made and put in place to protect society as a

[22:51]whole so there are certain things that will destroy the fabric of

[22:58]society like nudity like sexuality like pornography so this is why islam

[23:03]says there's the public and there's the private in private you could

[23:07]do whatever you want as long as it's halal there's nothing wrong

[23:10]with that in public you have to make sure that the well-being

[23:13]of society as a whole is preserved and this is why the

[23:17]laws of modesty and chastity are placed this is why allah says

[23:22]that you have to respect the sanctity of society as a whole

[23:28]and practice modesty and chastity so why is it that women have

[23:32]to for example wear a head covering and men don't this is

[23:35]because although men and women are equal in the eyes of allah

[23:40]subhana ta'ala they're not the same we're not the same with one

[23:43]another each one is different each gender is different so therefore the

[23:49]laws of the genders apply society understands this today you have in

[23:54]the army for example there are laws in society there are laws

[23:58]that are a little bit different based on the circumstances there's nothing

[24:02]wrong with that in fact that is equality if you want to

[24:07]treat everyone exactly the same then you're going to do injustice to

[24:09]one or the other allah says everyone's equal in the eyes of

[24:14]allah but sometimes each individual must be treated based on their own

[24:20]circumstances each gender there are rules and restrictions upon each gender that

[24:25]are based on their gender for and this is for the greater

[24:30]outcome of society as a whole finally my dear brothers and sisters

[24:35]hijab does not limit the female hijab does not limit the man

[24:41]and does not limit the woman in fact it gives opportunities it

[24:47]sheds light on the personality of the individual rather than the looks

[24:54]today hollywood and the media they focus only on the looks of

[25:00]an individual even if you have a a lady who is who

[25:04]has achieved so much she has done so much society and media

[25:10]and television only focus on her looks what she's wearing what kind

[25:13]of makeup she had on what shirt she was wearing what dress

[25:15]who who designed her this is all they focus on whereas islam

[25:21]says no let's not only look at the outward appearance but let's

[25:26]look at the personality let's look at the identity of the individual

[25:30]because when you're only going to judge someone from the outside you're

[25:33]going to do injustice to them you're not going to give them

[25:36]their true hack and right that they deserve you're going to take

[25:42]away from their highest potential and we see that this happens in

[25:45]the most advanced societies this happens in the united states this happens

[25:49]in europe this happens in many countries where many times unfortunately a

[25:55]woman is respected for her looks a woman is respected for the

[26:00]dress that she was wearing for her hair for the makeup for

[26:02]all of these other things if she was dressed modestly she's not

[26:08]going to be given the proper appreciation whereas islam says no let's

[26:13]let's look at this on the other side let's focus on the

[26:17]what this person has offered what this person has given let's shed

[26:21]light on the individual's personality and let's not look at the outward

[26:26]appearance because appearances come and go one day you're looking very beautiful

[26:29]then slowly you start aging so don't focus on the appearance but

[26:34]rather look at the personality of the individual this is why the

[26:40]quran sheds light on certain ladies in the quran and allah does

[26:45]not mention their body what she was wearing what she was looking

[26:48]allah does not even mention the color of skin because these are

[26:52]all things that we look at today a major problem in the

[26:57]most advanced countries including and first and foremost the united states is

[27:01]the problem of racism why because society has taught us to only

[27:05]focus on the outward appearance we don't focus on the individual's offering

[27:10]and true identity we focus on color we focus on clothing we

[27:16]focus on all of these outward appearances and outward appearances are not

[27:22]true the quran teaches brings us examples of certain women who reach

[27:27]the highest levels why because of their individual contributions because of their

[27:33]sacrifices because of what they offered allah talks about asiyah bint muzahim

[27:40]she was the queen of the time but she rejected pharaoh and

[27:44]she chose allah subhanahu wa ta'ala she says several times in the

[27:57]quran where the angels began to speak to maryam and she was

[28:00]she reached such high levels of iman and faith where she entered

[28:06]into the temple and she was doing sujood and rakuwa with all

[28:09]of those who were doing sujud and the angels would speak to

[28:15]her khadija she sacrificed and gave so much for the sake of

[28:24]the religion of islam fatima who became the greatest of all ladies

[28:31]not because of her looks not because of the clothing she was

[28:33]wearing but because of the charity and because of the akhlaq and

[28:37]because of her knowledge because of her worship because of all of

[28:43]that and my dear brothers and sisters zainab bintuhali we remember zainab

[28:49]the sister of imam hussein and umkulthum these two ladies who sacrificed

[28:57]so much zainab my dear brothers and sisters she carried the legacy

[29:02]and the message of imam al-hussein she is the one who continued

[29:06]and she took the baton from imam al-hussein and she continued the

[29:14]legacy of imam al-hussein it was the patience of zainab it was

[29:18]the iman of zainab it was the worship of zainab the strength

[29:22]of zainab it was the modesty of zainab zainab was able to

[29:27]achieve this high level all while preserving her modesty and her chastity

[29:34]she carried the message of imam al-hussein she protected the imam of

[29:38]her time imam zain al-abidin she protected the children of imam al-hussein

[29:44]and she goes and stands in front of abedilla in front of

[29:49]yazid and she speaks truth to power it was zainab this is

[29:59]why one of the famous poets arabic poets by the name of

[30:02]saeed raval hindi he has a very important poem he has a

[30:04]poem a very famous poem about may my soul and the soul

[30:23]of my ancestors and fathers be sacrificed for the one who inherited

[30:28]the masaab of her mother but she dealt with them with the

[30:31]patience of her father lam tell her distracted her from taking care

[30:45]of the children and the family of imam al-hussein not losing her

[30:52]brother and her children she calls she cries as if her insides

[31:07]are burning with a charcoal woman these are your women who will

[31:20]take care of them now the women of rasulallah the daughters the

[31:25]granddaughters of rasulallah they have been taken as captives of war in

[31:32]a muslim country where the leader is claiming to be the khalifa

[31:39]of rasulallah they come and they strike her on her shoulder with

[31:52]a whip and shimmer he pushes her while cursing her father amir

[31:57]al-mu'min how strange is it for zainab yesterday it was you hussain

[32:12]who was honoring zainab who was taking care of zainab now beni

[32:20]umayyah is abusing zainab and taking away the right of zainab and

[32:26]hitting her and pushing her around my dear brothers and sisters the

[32:32]11th of muharram was a very sad day just as the 10th

[32:38]of 10th of muharram the 11th of muharram was a very sad

[32:42]day for has just begun imam al-hussein was killed that's when the

[32:52]greater tragedy began for the family and the woman and the children

[32:56]of imam al-hussein he orders for his men who were killed in

[33:03]the battle to be buried but was left unburied the grandson of

[33:12]rasool allah who used to go and sit on the chest of

[33:18]rasulullah now abba abdullah is laying on the ground beheaded his clothes

[33:21]stripped from his body his body trampled by the hooves of the

[33:27]horses and the arrows piercing the body of abba abdullah the sun

[33:34]scorching the body of imam hussain and the companions of imam al-hussein

[33:40]alaihissalam on the 11th of muharram um ordered his companions to get

[33:50]up because they were leaving they were going to leave kerbela and

[33:54]head back to kufa he orders his soldiers to take the woman

[34:00]and the children of imam al-hussein and place them on the camels

[34:06]the soldiers they came to the woman and daughters and children of

[34:12]imam al-hussein trying to touch them and carry them zainab she tells

[34:18]amara bin sad may allah darken your future and your face just

[34:25]in this life and in the afterlife you do not have the

[34:30]right to touch the family and the children of rasulullah we will

[34:35]help ourselves we will help ourselves and we will ride the camel

[34:39]on our own so he ordered his men to back off so

[34:44]zainab alayhi hassalam along with they went and they helped every single

[34:51]team every single orphan every child they would help them get on

[34:57]the camel get on the carriage and they would help them after

[35:01]zainab helped everyone it was only zayn abandoned zainab tells um let

[35:12]me help you get on the camel she tells her jose nab

[35:18]if you help me get on the camel then who will help

[35:25]you oh zana at that moment zainab looked towards the farad she

[35:29]remembered her you were the one who brought me anytime we came

[35:46]down from the camel we would go up you were there to

[35:50]help me you were the younger brother who would take care of

[35:55]his sister where are you it's as if abbas tells her oh

[36:03]zainab i don't have hands to care for you anymore i don't

[36:07]have eyes to be able to see you and watch out for

[36:14]you anymore zainab she managed in some way to get on the

[36:19]camel then the caravan began to move as they began to move

[36:24]they ordered for the caravan to break the hearts of the children

[36:29]and the woman they ordered for the caravan to pass by the

[36:34]bodies of the shahadah they brought them next to the bodies of

[36:39]the each lady each young daughter she saw the body of her

[36:47]brother her father her relative they threw themselves on the bodies [Music]
