[2:15]debated play be Nepali inaudible Horomia mean I'm bad my dear brothers
[2:21]and sisters assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakato Allah subhana WA Ta'ala
[2:26]and the Quran says potahto Rahman Pulido bahador rahman a and method
[2:31]of LOL a small Hosanna so the qawalli ravine and the month
[2:37]of Ramadan is oftentimes called the month of mercy shirahama but in
[2:43]order to understand the nature of the mercy of the month I
[2:49]think we need to first and foremost understand the nature of a
[2:53]law's mercy so the mercy of the month of Ramadan is really
[2:59]a function of a law's mercy and if we want to understand
[3:01]the laws mercy we need to first and foremost understand the mercy
[3:04]of the Prophet because the Prophet puts really a human face to
[3:10]the magnitude of Allah's mercy that's why Allah subhana WA Ta'ala says
[3:14]in the Quran waa ma arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil al-amin solo subhana
[3:19]WA Ta'ala calls the Prophet dorama meaning a mercy as translated in
[3:24]english but I think this verse often times you know many of
[3:28]us have heard of it many of us have heard this verse
[3:33]recited but I think few of us have actually taken the time
[3:35]to understand the implications of this verse is we understand the implications
[3:40]of this verse the nature of the prophets mercy I think you
[3:43]get a better understanding of the nature of the mercy of allah
[3:46]subhanho wa taala when you understand the nature of allah's mercy then
[3:50]you can get a better appreciation of the magnitude of the month
[3:55]that were you know undertaking right now so tonight's discussion will be
[3:59]divided into two parts actually three parts in the first part we'll
[4:04]talk about we'll try to you know get a better understanding of
[4:07]this ayah when ma arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil alamin to get a
[4:12]better in-depth understanding of what does allah mean when he calls the
[4:15]prophet a mercy to all of creation so that's the first part
[4:22]in the second part we're going to look at the the outcome
[4:25]of the prophets mercy on humanity and creation and then in the
[4:30]third part we'll talk about the nature of the prophets mercy versus
[4:33]the nature of allah subhana wa ta'ala as mercy and some lessons
[4:37]that we can take away during the month of Ramadhan but before
[4:40]we continue please give me a lot so Toa so this is
[4:48]really interesting it's an selected MBA ayah 107 Allah says wa ma
[4:56]arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil an amine is an interesting I offer I
[5:00]think two fundamental reasons the first reason is you'll notice that when
[5:04]allah subhana wa ta'ala called the prophet a mercy or a rama
[5:09]he doesn't define or confine the prophet's mercy to a specific period
[5:13]of time says wa ma arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil al-amin meaning we
[5:17]sent you as a mercy to all of creation so there is
[5:22]no time component to the prophets mercy so even though the Prophet
[5:25]lived for 63 years this ayah is telling us that the nature
[5:32]of the prophets mercy extends well beyond those 63 years well beyond
[5:37]the prophets existence so that's the first interesting component of this ayah
[5:40]how can an individual's mercy how can an individual's characteristics extend beyond
[5:47]their own lifetime you know many of us when we die that's
[5:52]it people will forget about us and our existence on earth but
[5:55]here allah subhanho wa taala saying something fundamentally counterintuitive to our existence
[6:02]which is that the prophet who lived over 1400 years ago his
[6:05]mercy was not confined to a specific period of time but rather
[6:08]extends throughout creation so how can this be the second interesting thing
[6:14]about this ayah is allah subhana wa ta'ala does not limit the
[6:21]prophets mercy to a specific group of people so allah subhana wa
[6:24]ta'ala very explicitly says lil alamin waa ma arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil
[6:30]al-amin notice Allah doesn't say little Arab even though the Prophet his
[6:35]message was initially specific for the Arabs of the Arabian Peninsula he
[6:41]doesn't say wha ma arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil ajam which means the
[6:47]non Arabs he doesn't say wa ma arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil arab
[6:51]villages meaning the Arabs and the non Arabs but he says wa
[6:54]ma arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil al-amin so there's the interesting thing about
[7:00]this ayah is in addition to the profits or mercy being expensive
[7:04]not limited to a specific time it's not limited to a specific
[7:07]group of people so the question that we want to answer here
[7:13]tonight is is this possible how is the profits mercy you know
[7:16]not defined by time or by space can such a thing occur
[7:24]and really address this question of how the profits mercy can be
[7:28]so expansive how the profits Lama can be so expansive we need
[7:31]to re-examine the profits life and the and the impact that it's
[7:37]that it's had on people that's it allowed the mercy to continue
[7:40]well beyond his existence so we'll talk about that but first please
[7:44]give me a lot sort of life so dad so how can
[7:54]a individual's characteristics extend beyond their life well the prophet has a
[7:59]beautiful hadith that I think many of us should should know and
[8:03]take the heart the Prophet says the Amata ignore Adam in kappa
[8:09]am Allah who elemental ah've sadaqa jariya our Elmen UEFA OB al
[8:15]walid on salah han yet allah when an individual dies all of
[8:19]their actions come to an end except for three things sadaqa jariya
[8:26]continuous charity our Elmen UEFA alba which means beneficial knowledge al what
[8:32]I don't sod ahead Allah which means a righteous child that makes
[8:36]the so if you ever want to examine the legacy of an
[8:41]individual the Prophet is saying that the only thing that an individual
[8:45]leaves when they pass away when they leave this life can be
[8:52]really defined in these three categories continuous charity beneficial knowledge and a
[8:57]righteous child so let's look at the prophet's life within this own
[9:00]context let's examine the prophet's life in an account with respect to
[9:09]his own words so the first category that the Prophet talks about
[9:12]is this concept of sadaqa jariya it's a very interesting concept in
[9:16]in Islam so many of you are familiar with the concept of
[9:22]sadaqa can anyone tell me what a sadhaka is and I think
[9:24]everyone you know children and adults probably has an understanding of sadaqa
[9:28]does anyone know can't get anyone translate the word sadaqa for me
[9:37]in English charity right so oftentimes when we think of charity we
[9:41]think of a one-time act one-time act of giving so for example
[9:45]at every message that I've ever been to they'll have a box
[9:50]that says charity and the expectation is that you pull out three
[9:53]or five or ten or twenty dollars and you put it in
[9:57]the donation box this is the concept of charity as we know
[10:00]it but there's another concept of charity that the Prophet here is
[10:04]talking about and that's the concept of continuous charity so a one-time
[10:08]act of charity you'll receive the benefit for the act when you
[10:11]make the Act so for example let's say you see a homeless
[10:17]person on the streets you buy him a sandwich or you give
[10:19]him a few dollars you will receive the benefit of that act
[10:24]of charity so long is that a poor person benefits from it
[10:27]but as soon as they've eaten the food or as soon as
[10:31]they as they've spent the money the benefit for your act will
[10:35]will disappear a continuous act of charity is something different in that
[10:40]long after you've made the donation people continue to benefit from it
[10:44]so how can that happen one time the Prophet when he was
[10:49]in Medina the following verse is revealed to the people the early
[10:53]Muslims bismillah ar-rahman ar-rahim lent an aloe vera hot atoms vehicle mimma
[10:58]to head born waa Martin pupil min shay'in' tiene la Xavier Eileen
[11:05]you shall never attain righteousness or you shall never be you know
[11:10]a scene highly in the eyes of God until you sacrifice out
[11:13]of that which you love Lenten Alberta hot doctrine people Minmatar head
[11:18]born one Martin people min shay'in' Fennell a hobby alum and whatever
[11:24]you donate allah subhanho wa taala is all knowledgeable all-wise so when
[11:29]this ayah was revealed to the early Muslims you know many of
[11:32]them started to ask out a suit of law what does this
[11:35]ayah mean so the Prophet tells them that in the eyes of
[11:37]Allah subhana WA Ta'ala you attain a degree of righteousness in relation
[11:43]to the amount of sacrifice that you give forth towards Allah subhana
[11:47]WA Ta'ala so if you sacrifice out of the things which you
[11:49]love for the sake of Allah you'll get degrees of reward in
[11:55]relation to the to the amount of sacrifice so one of the
[11:57]prophets early companions was a man named Abdul Allah Ansari said ya
[12:04]Rasul Allah the most beloved thing to me is this piece of
[12:07]land which that at that time was called beer high which means
[12:10]the plantations of height so the Alastor Allah this is the most
[12:15]beloved thing in my existence and I give it to you I
[12:19]donate it for the sake of the Muslim Ummah the Prophet takes
[12:22]this land and builds one of the first messages in Muslim history
[12:29]so the point being that when this individual abdullah lancelot ii donates
[12:34]the piece of land he received the benefits in proportion to the
[12:38]amount of sacrifice that he gave it was his most beloved land
[12:41]so when the Prophet built the Masjid on top of it the
[12:46]amount of reward that Abdullah on Saudi received was equivalent to every
[12:49]time that an individual went and made sellout in that building abdullah
[12:53]Ansari would receive a reward it wasn't a one-time act of charity
[12:57]but rather it was a continuous act of charity sadaqah Jharia which
[13:01]people continue to benefit from now when this ayah was revealed other
[13:08]people became inspired by the prophets example and started donating of their
[13:13]time and effort and other capacities for example Imam Ali Adi has
[13:16]said on what he started to do is he started to donate
[13:20]it of his time and one of the main things I was
[13:22]missing at the time was we know when people were traveling from
[13:27]city to city there were no rest stations so you know how
[13:29]if you're going to like let's say Toledo or if you're going
[13:34]to Chicago you have rest stops along the way where you can
[13:36]fuel up and you know drink water and what-have-you back in the
[13:40]olden days if you're going from Medina to Mecca there were no
[13:45]rest stops so a mom Adi Adi said I've noticed that this
[13:46]was a tremendous need and he started digging wells right outside of
[13:50]the city of Medina this is an area that's known in and
[13:54]outside of Medina is ABI Holly I don't know how many of
[13:59]you have been to Medina or Mecca you'll notice that there is
[14:02]a series of wells that were dug up by Imam Ali as
[14:06]a source of charity for the travelers going from Medina to Mecca
[14:09]and they built a message it on top of it called Masjid
[14:13]is Shahada the point being that everyone was inspired by the prophets
[14:18]example and started donating their time and effort in a strategic way
[14:21]that was that was not just limited to a one-time act of
[14:24]charity but was something that could be beneficial long-term and that's why
[14:28]you'll notice that if you ever go to hajj if allah blesses
[14:32]you with the opportunity to go to hajj one of the places
[14:34]where you wear your alam is measured this treasure nora be our
[14:37]ally so imam ali alehissalaam long after he made this one-time act
[14:43]of charity sadaqah Jharia people still continue to benefit every individual who
[14:49]wears their alam at the abhi ala ali imam ali will receive
[14:53]the sadaqa the benefits of the sadaqa from that well Salawat and
[15:03]it wasn't just Muslims who were inspired by the prophets example there
[15:09]were non-muslims as well one of the most generous non-muslims was this
[15:15]Jewish man named mo hey Doc mahalik was a was a Jew
[15:17]of one of the tribes of the Jewish tribes of Medina so
[15:23]he was a very loyal individual to the Prophet he participated in
[15:27]the Battle of odd you'll remember that the Battle of Mahad is
[15:32]the second battle to occur in the history of Islam so mo
[15:34]hey Rock this non Muslim this Jewish man participated with the Muslims
[15:38]in the Battle of WOD against the non-believers mahalik was a wealthy
[15:45]merchant and during the battle mo Hajduk was injured and killed on
[15:49]the battlefield on the battlefield as he's dying he pledges his wealth
[15:54]and his and his land to the Prophet into the Muslims and
[16:00]the lines of Mo hey Doc became you know taken over for
[16:03]the interests of the Muslim Ummah and the prophet called Makai Rock
[16:08]the most generous of the Jewish people in Medina this is all
[16:11]written by the way in the Sierra of Ibanez Hawk even is
[16:16]Hawk the well-known biographer the point being that the prophets in example
[16:21]of mercy inspired both Muslims and non-muslims to make charity in a
[16:27]very strategic manner so that you have Imam Ali digging these wells
[16:31]that people still continue to benefit from today you have Abdullah Ansari
[16:35]donating his land which eventually became built into a message you have
[16:40]donating his land and wealth and this example continued long after the
[16:47]death of the Prophet so for example does anyone know the story
[16:50]of the very first University actually before we get into that does
[16:54]anyone know what the oldest university is in the world any guesses
[16:58]Oxford okay any other guesses yes Harvard okay well so Oxford and
[17:09]Harvard you're off by about 200 years Oxford and Harvard you're off
[17:12]by about a thousand years so the first University was actually founded
[17:17]in 859 of the Common Era by a Muslim lady named Fatima
[17:24]and family who was she founded this University in Fez Morocco this
[17:31]is according to the United Nations you know a Society for culture
[17:35]and and what have UNESCO they've designated this as being the oldest
[17:38]university so the story of optimind Fetty is very interesting she was
[17:43]a wealth she was the daughter of a wealthy merchant who was
[17:47]living at the time in Morocco her father passes away and he
[17:51]gives her some inheritance so fakhla and fili takes her inheritance money
[17:55]and she dedicates it to the founding of a school and to
[18:01]the founding of a library and a message it in the city
[18:03]of Fez Morocco this College would go on to be named Jonathan
[18:10]Leila Wayne so it's called al-qaida Wayne University this is a very
[18:15]interesting University because so what the point being the thought my family
[18:18]took her money and she dedicated it to this continuous act of
[18:21]charity sadaqah Jharia she was inspired by the example of the Prophet
[18:29]to found a charitable institution that would benefit individuals within the community
[18:34]long after her death it wasn't just a one-time act of money
[18:38]but rather was a strategic donation that would benefit the Muslim community
[18:43]is a very interesting University actually one of the most famous alumni
[18:47]or one of the most famous students of jamaat al qaeda wayne
[18:51]was a catholic pope sylvester ii studied at this university that was
[18:57]founded by a muslim woman in the year 859 now think about
[19:02]that often times when they talk about Muslim women being oppressed we
[19:05]say to them it was a Muslim woman who was actually a
[19:11]founder of one of the oldest universities in the Muslim world and
[19:13]there's actually much more to be discussed here there's a wonderful book
[19:17]written by a man named George Makdissi called the rise of colleges
[19:21]where he talks about the history of the Islamic colleges their eyes
[19:26]and how they influenced the subsequent founding of Oxford University Cambridge in
[19:31]at many of the at Western universities the point being that when
[19:35]the Prophet says LaMotta Eve knew Adam and Papa amela ho element
[19:39]that sadaqa jariya so the Lamb of the Prophet first and foremost
[19:45]inspired individuals to become more merciful in terms of their communities and
[19:50]inspired them to make these strategic acts of charity that people still
[19:55]longed to benefit from people were inspired by the prophetic act of
[20:00]mercy and they and they created institutions that would enable the mercy
[20:04]of the Prophet to extend long after his death but it doesn't
[20:08]just stop at the concept of sladac acharya because in the hadith
[20:12]that I mentioned da Matta F new Adam kappa ameno xi ADAT
[20:18]sadaqa jariya al Mamoon tefa obey the second thing that the Prophet
[20:22]left behind that has been a tremendous source of mercy for Humanity
[20:26]is beneficial knowledge and this beneficial knowledge is really most represented by
[20:32]the operon as all of you know we're in the month of
[20:38]Ramadan Allah subhana WA Ta'ala says shahru ramadana alladhi unzila fihi quran
[20:42]hood and inácio bayonet in minal Hudur well fork on so it's
[20:46]the month of Ramadan within which the Quran was revealed as a
[20:50]guidance for the people who tenderness ouabain 18 min al Hoda well
[20:58]for Khan and as a clear example that enables mankind to essentially
[21:03]understand the guidance so the point being that book allah subhana wa
[21:09]ta'ala refers to it as a guidance to all of humanity and
[21:11]not just as a guidance to the arabs or a guidance to
[21:17]you know the muslims but rather hood and in us now this
[21:22]is an interesting idea here we'll get into how the Quran was
[21:25]the guidance to humanity but first please give me a lots a
[21:32]lot so I am Muhammad Quran is really a unique among world
[21:35]books in that it's the only book that we know of that
[21:41]is maintained the same shape form and style since the time of
[21:44]its revelation meaning if you look at the book of the al-quran
[21:49]that was compiled by Imam Ali during the time of the Prophet
[21:52]so the very same book that we have in our hands today
[21:57]no other book in human history can lay claim to such a
[21:59]a fact you know even in modern times you'll notice if you
[22:03]go to your school's your textbooks often come in many multiple editions
[22:07]so the first edition second edition third edition with regard to the
[22:13]Quran there's only one edition and this Edition is maintain consistency across
[22:18]whether you're in was Becca Stan or China or India or Dearborn
[22:23]or Boston or South America or Antarctica now the consistency of the
[22:31]message of the Quran has actually acted as an inspiration for many
[22:35]people I'll give you one example one firm example and then we
[22:38]can go into the rest of the discussion there's a recent book
[22:43]by a a scholar in King's College in London called the Enlightenment
[22:47]or on the Enlightenment Quran it's written by a man named Xia
[22:51]Delmar Sophie and in this book what jihad in Marathi examines is
[22:54]you want he asked the question you know Europe was in a
[22:59]period of dark ages the Dark Ages is when Europe had no
[23:04]clue about science no clue about arts they were really living in
[23:08]an age of superstition so as yaadon mother sophie was asking what
[23:12]caused europe to go out of the Dark Ages and into the
[23:16]age of the Enlightenment the Enlightenment is when you have these new
[23:20]ideas evolving about Sian's about literature about art about you know other
[23:25]aspects so what he was able to do as he traced the
[23:30]rise of the enlightenment with the translation of the quran into the
[23:34]european languages so he says that the enlightenment was really triggered not
[23:39]by you know some super event but the event was the translation
[23:43]of the quran into the european languages because when the Europeans like
[23:48]Voltaire and Rousseau and and Napoleon among others started reading the English
[23:54]translation of the Quran they became inspired by the words of the
[23:57]Quran and it caused them to think more critically you know there
[24:02]are numerous verses in the Quran that challenge mankind to think critically
[24:06]about their situation allah subhanho wa taala and surah al-araf for example
[24:14]says what otaku male celica be here in assam our boss LOL
[24:16]fada cool uluka can a new missoula do not follow that with
[24:21]which you have no knowledge where in the summer your hearing well
[24:24]boss Allah and you're seeing one for a Deku LULAC economist Allah
[24:30]you'll be held accountable for for these things that you do so
[24:33]the Europeans when they read verses like this it caused them to
[24:35]think more critically and to enable them to come out of superstition
[24:41]that's why Allah subhana WA Ta'ala says that when Zellner Hadar karana
[24:46]Allah jebel in Loretto who Hashimoto soda and Mahesh Attila had we
[24:50]revealed the Quran on a mountain you would see the mountain shaking
[24:53]Hashimoto soda and Mahesh Attila shaking in reverence to the Quran the
[24:59]power of the Quran cannot be underestimated it's really a unique book
[25:03]in terms of the of the of its compilation and just to
[25:09]give you one more you know idea of the uniqueness of the
[25:11]Quran many of you know that of the New Testament the New
[25:17]Testament obviously being the newest book of the Bible there is a
[25:23]Christian scholar named Bart Ehrman eh our ma n who's written a
[25:26]book called lost Christianity's and he's a scholar in a Duke University
[25:32]so what Bart Ehrman wanted to do as you wanted to calculate
[25:38]the number of differences between the current versions of the the New
[25:43]Testament meaning you wanted to see how many versions of the Bible
[25:45]are there out there today and what he came up with as
[25:51]he says that there are nearly 5400 different copies of all or
[25:55]part of the New Testament think about that there are five thousand
[26:02]four hundred different versions of the Bible meaning fundamentally different in their
[26:05]content and in their scope so then Bart Ehrman wanted to go
[26:10]on and say well you know how many differences are there between
[26:13]these different versions you know maybe there's just some small differences in
[26:17]terms of wording he goes on to say that we find that
[26:22]no two of these copies agree in all of their wording meaning
[26:25]none of these copies really sort of matches each other and he
[26:28]says nobody knows for certain how often they changed them because no
[26:33]one yet has been able to count all of the differences between
[26:37]the surviving manuscripts meaning people have tried to count the differences between
[26:42]the 5400 different versions of the Bible that are out there and
[26:45]they haven't been able to come up with the number of differences
[26:47]between them some put the estimate around 200 thousand others at around
[26:52]three hundred thousand perhaps it's simplest to express this figure in comparative
[26:57]terms there are more differences among our among our Bibles then there
[27:04]are words in the New Testament so think about that if the
[27:07]Bible contains three hundred thousand words there are more than 300 thousand
[27:12]differences between the different versions now going back to the Quran the
[27:16]reason that Allah subhana WA Ta'ala says shahru ramadana alladhi unzila fihi
[27:21]quran hood and inácio Bayon Ataman and hotel for con the reason
[27:27]this Quran has served as a guidance for humanity is because it's
[27:30]the only book that we know of that has remained in its
[27:36]original form from the time of its revelation up until the time
[27:39]today no other book can lay claim to such a fact so
[27:46]know what so done so the Rama of the Prophet was the
[27:49]fact that he was a honest transmitter of the Quran based on
[27:56]the revelation and more importantly he was the living upright version of
[28:01]the Quran so the Quran is the theoretical book of life the
[28:03]Prophet in his manners and in his behaviors is really the walking
[28:07]practical version of the Quran so so far we've talked about the
[28:14]contribution of the prophet's life within two components we said that when
[28:18]allah subhanho wa taala says wa ma arsalnaka illa rahmatan lil al-amin
[28:21]that we've only sent you as a mercy for humanity the mercy
[28:27]of the Prophet has really been sort of a you know dependent
[28:31]on the prophets inspiration for Humanity in the first part he inspired
[28:36]many of his followers to make the strategic acts of charity like
[28:40]Sadiq Acharya in the second part the prophets example and the revelation
[28:45]that the Prophet carried inspired individuals to think you know about the
[28:50]creation of Allah - it inspired the entire enlightenment of Europe and
[28:57]an inspired mankind to think the third category of the prophets mercy
[29:02]relates to the Prophet it relates to what I do in sada
[29:05]and yet Allah we'll get into that but first please give me
[29:08]a lot slower so the third thing that an individual leaves behind
[29:16]when they die is a righteous child meaning if you've raised good
[29:20]children the children are a reflection of your legacy if your children
[29:25]are people that just cause trouble in the land that cause you
[29:31]know hardship for people your legacy will be by extension tainted so
[29:35]that's why the Prophet says sladac Acharya oh and when you entebbe
[29:39]Alba he'll what I do nod ahead Ola so the third component
[29:44]that the Prophet has left behind is righteous children and this concept
[29:49]really was beautifully articulated in the following instance one time a group
[29:55]of people came to the Prophet they said yada sutala you know
[29:58]you've done so much for us you've guided us you've enlightened us
[30:03]what how can we ever repay you you want some money you
[30:05]want some position so the Prophet didn't know how to answer and
[30:10]this is when the following ayat became revealed from Allah subhana WA
[30:14]Ta'ala Allah subhana WA Ta'ala tells the Prophet to tell the people
[30:17]couldn't hear I was telling the Prophet oil say to them on
[30:21]la allakum a lay our Anil Elmo edit FL CORBA say I
[30:27]ask free of you no payment no compensation except for the love
[30:32]of the closest kin except for the love of the Android bait
[30:37]now when this ayah was revealed many of the people started to
[30:41]ask ya Rasul Allah men howl 11 at Nevada home Levina wijaya
[30:45]Elena MOA detta home who are these people that you've obligated us
[30:51]to love and he says Allie waffle Tamela Abner Huma and he
[30:55]said Ali and Palma and her sons and this by the way
[31:00]is narrated in the book of tafseer tafseer Kabir event bobbery one
[31:04]of the leading Sunni scholars and also by in the book of
[31:10]tafseer Ravel's amok shadi now it's it's an interesting idea think about
[31:13]it the prophet has done this tremendous benefit for Humanity and he
[31:17]asks for nothing except for the love of his close of kin
[31:23]allah subhanho wa taala goes on to say when mazda cumin edge
[31:27]run waha welcome whatever gift I've asked of myself is really for
[31:31]your benefit so when the Prophet is asking us to love the
[31:34]anger debate this is really ultimately for our own benefit because whatever
[31:39]they profit asks in terms of payment is really payment for ourselves
[31:42]so this is um in you know a you know deep discussion
[31:48]and that we'll get into that but first please give me a
[31:57]lot so toatt so this ayah is is an interesting ayah allah
[32:00]subhanho wa taala says do Kamala he Agron LMO editor from Cordoba
[32:05]say I ask of you no payment except the love of the
[32:10]close of kin now now the word love moet day is translated
[32:15]as love in English and it's actually an interesting translation you know
[32:21]the word moet does actually something very different from the concept of
[32:26]love the people at the linguist the linguists have done you know
[32:29]Studies on this and they say probably one of the most misunderstood
[32:33]words and the English language is the word love think about it
[32:37]because we use the word love in so many different contexts that
[32:43]oftentimes the meaning of the word loses meaning so for example we
[32:46]say I love you know going to Shatila right so you know
[32:52]it's the month of ramadhan or I love to drink coffee alright
[32:55]so you're using the word love to describe your relationship to a
[33:00]physical object like Shatila or you know coffee but at the same
[33:03]time we use the word love to describe our relationship with our
[33:07]mother I love my mother I love my father I love my
[33:12]spouse so we're using the same word to describe a relationship with
[33:16]the people who gave birth to us as we are describing our
[33:21]relationship to a place that sells us baccala WA alright so this
[33:25]is the problem with the English language is that it oftentimes oversimplify
[33:29]some deep context and deep meaning with regard to the words the
[33:33]word love is one such word in the Arabic language the Arabic
[33:38]language does not have one word for the concept of love but
[33:41]at least two dozen words there's for example mohabbat there's moet death
[33:46]there's garam there's ash there's resin there's many different words that define
[33:52]the concept of love hear the word moet death is actually linked
[33:58]to one of the 99 names of Allah and WA dude and
[34:02]Allah subhana WA Ta'ala is called the ever-loving and the concept of
[34:07]n WA do it is a lot loves us because he knows
[34:12]us I was love is contingent upon knowing us so the point
[34:15]being that here when Allah whose is the word moet death the
[34:19]word mo what does not just simply saying I love the annual
[34:22]Baek because I put you know I D I see this all
[34:26]over Dearborn like you know people putting decal saying yeah or saying
[34:28]on their car right and this is sort of like you know
[34:32]their love of Android bait or you know yeah i lee or
[34:34]you know something like that allah subhana wa tada is very purposely
[34:39]using the word moet death meaning this is a love based on
[34:42]the understanding of the prophet's relationship with his family because when you
[34:47]understand the prophets relationship with his daughter when you understand the prophet's
[34:52]relationship with his grandsons when you understand the prophets relationship with his
[34:55]son-in-law Imam Ali RA is Saddam then you'll truly understand the concept
[35:03]of mercy of Rama if you don't it's look at how the
[35:06]Prophet interacted with his daughter look at how the Prophet interacted with
[35:10]his young grandsons when he would never see them he would kiss
[35:13]them on the cheek he would give them hugs who would give
[35:17]them some sweet candies look at the relationship that the Prophet had
[35:21]with with his with his daughter the point being that the the
[35:25]mercy and the love of the Prophet towards his family is really
[35:31]the highest model of what it means to be merciful and if
[35:34]you want to understand the mercy of Allah you need to first
[35:39]and foremost understand the mercy of the Prophet towards his own family
[35:44]now unfortunately we as Muslims have failed to understand the prophets mercy
[35:48]we know of many incidences in the some community of men beating
[35:54]their spouses of men beating their children we asked are these actual
[35:58]followers of the prophets legacy blessed Oh Kamali a dynamo at the
[36:02]temple Cordoba that I ask of you know nothing except the love
[36:07]of Allah subhana accept the love of my close of kin because
[36:10]the individuals who understand the relationship of the Prophet with his family
[36:15]will understand the notion of mercy what it means to become merciful
[36:18]which leads us to the mercy of Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala you
[36:22]know Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala says it hammam and fell out of
[36:29]your hammock omental sama show mercy towards those who are on earth
[36:33]and the one in the sky in the heavens will show mercy
[36:38]to you meaning Allah Smurfs e is dependent on our own ability
[36:41]to be merciful towards each other if we're unable to be merciful
[36:44]towards each other then there's no hope for the mercy of Allah
[36:50]subhana WA Ta'ala why would Allah show his mercy and kindness and
[36:52]generosity to you if you're not showing your mercy generosity and kindness
[36:57]towards your fellow human and this is the situation of the Muslims
[37:00]today we ask ourselves are the Muslims being merciful to each other
[37:06]well well if we look at Yemen and Saudi a we see
[37:07]absolutely no mercy we look in Syria we see no mercy if
[37:13]we look in our own community here in Dearborn or in in
[37:16]Boston or in Washington look at how the Muslims are treating each
[37:21]other with a lack of mercy and then we wonder about how
[37:24]the laws mercy is isn't being showed on us have we shown
[37:29]mercy towards each other meaning have we shown the generosity that's expected
[37:33]of us towards each other and you know with with respect to
[37:37]expecting the mercy of Allah subhana wa da da and this by
[37:41]the way has very real-life implications you know the Grand Mufti the
[37:48]grand Sheikh of Mecca a man named chef Adil L kill bonny
[37:50]so he was the man who was leading salat Jamaa in Mecca
[37:55]he was the grand mufti of Mecca up until last year and
[37:58]they had an interview with him last year and they asked him
[38:02]you know the thoughts and and I Diaz of Isis you know
[38:06]are they similar to the thoughts of Celle phys 'm or you
[38:08]know the Wahhabi you know a school of thought in us Saudi
[38:13]Arabia he said yes you know Isis and in terms of their
[38:18]beliefs that we share the same beliefs with Isis so the chef
[38:23]I did kill bonny you know the chef of Mecca agreed that
[38:28]the beliefs of Isis were the same as the beliefs of the
[38:31]Saudi Kingdom but he said the only difference is in terms of
[38:36]the way they apply those beliefs so we apply a more refined
[38:39]form of this sub belief now the question becomes why why does
[38:43]Isis and why does the family of Saudi Arabia lack humanity that's
[38:47]because first and foremost they've not understood the relationship of that Ahlul
[38:51]Bayt they have not understood the relationship of the Prophet towards his
[38:55]own children towards his own wife towards his own spouse if you
[38:58]don't understand that relationship of LACMA there is no hope for you
[39:03]with regard to the relationship of the Rama velocity' Noah Tata and
[39:07]this month but this brings us to the month of Ramadan because
[39:09]the month of Ramadan is the month of mercy Imam Ali alehissalaam
[39:14]said if Allah wanted to punish the Muslims he would not have
[39:20]given them the month of Ramadan and surat al-ikhlas Surat Allah had
[39:25]meaning this is the opportunity to make up for whatever indiscretions or
[39:30]for whatever mistakes we've made in the past year this is the
[39:33]month of Rama and if we want the month of Allah to
[39:37]be merciful if we want allah subhanho wa taala to be merciful
[39:41]to us first and foremost we need to change ourselves to be
[39:44]merciful towards each other so let's take the month of Ramadan as
[39:47]an opportunity to think what kind of legacy are we leaving behind
[39:53]are we leaving behind the legacy like Fatima and fairly are we
[39:57]leaving behind the legacy like Imam Ali are we leaving behind the
[40:00]legacy like mahalik the best of the Jews who inspire who enabled
[40:04]people to become merciful to each other or are we leaving a
[40:10]legacy that's similar to the one that's being talked about by Shahada
[40:13]and killed Bonnie of the grand Masjid where were harsh and that
[40:17]you know harmful to each other so I asked allah subhanho wa
[40:21]taala to enable us to benefit from this month of mercy shadow
[40:23]rama and we ask Allah subhana WA Ta'ala to enable us to
[40:27]be merciful towards each other so that we can be merciful so
[40:31]that we can gain the mercy of Allah subhana WA Ta'ala robbing
[40:33]an attraction anissina apana Robin oh Allah today knows Frank a Muhammad
[40:38]Ali diamond cabina rub iñárritu homonym adapt our catalana de Wawa Berlin
