[0:28]hussein muhammad can you guys hear me well okay so inshaallah the
[1:21]topic of today is how to prepare for the holy month of
[1:23]shah ramadan as we all know we are coming towards the end
[1:29]of the holy month of and it is known to be the
[1:35]month of rasulullah and the traditions even mentioned that one should fast
[1:40]during this holy month to gain nearness to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[1:44]and out of love for the holy prophet so as we go
[1:53]into this holy month of ramadan one of the most important things
[1:58]that one should do is they should recognize the blessings of allah
[2:01]subhanahu wa ta'ala and the ones he has blessed us with in
[2:06]this holy month so as we're approaching the whole the month of
[2:12]ramadan one huge blessing that allah has blessed this ummah with is
[2:16]the holy prophet himself in the quran allah says bismillah [Music] there
[2:34]has certainly come to you an apostle from among yourselves grievous to
[2:40]him is your distress he has deep concern for you and is
[2:44]most kind and merciful to the faithful this is rasulullah allah subhanahu
[2:50]wa ta'ala is describing the holy prophet and he's saying that he
[2:55]has deep concern for you imagine rasulallah the leader of this ummah
[3:01]he has deep concern for the muslims so if anybody ever goes
[3:06]through a feeling of they feel as if nobody cares for them
[3:10]or as if they're going through some times of despair all you
[3:15]need to do is look at this wonderful ayah where allah he
[3:22]is deeply concerned with that which you struggle with and it'd be
[3:27]a good time to mention that we believe that our amal our
[3:32]actions are presented towards the holy prophet and one of the verses
[3:35]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says that allah says act and do and
[3:44]allah sees all that you do and so does the prophet and
[3:49]so does the believers the verse says and the scholars say that
[3:54]the believers is one of which and the epitome and the manifestation
[3:59]of the believers is imam abdullah so one of the things we
[4:04]want to do while we prepare for this holy month is to
[4:06]recognize the blessings of allah subhanahu ta'alah one of which we said
[4:09]is the walking talk in quran rasulullah another one is the holy
[4:19]quran itself how many of us by show of hands are planning
[4:24]to develop a better connection with the quran in this upcoming month
[4:28]okay masha'allah almost everybody alhamdulillah there's a beautiful hadith and it says
[4:37]that everything has that season of revival where something is brought back
[4:43]to life and that this the season of revival for the for
[4:50]the quran is the month of ramadan this is the month where
[4:53]we take the qurans that we have whether it's on our ipads
[4:58]on our phones the physical quran and we build a connection with
[5:03]the quran it's not only about reciting the holy quran as as
[5:07]one of the verses says bismillah do they not reflect do they
[5:18]not do of the holy quran or is it that on their
[5:20]hearts there are locks invites us in this verse to reflect over
[5:27]the holy quran to take you know the verses that you're reciting
[5:31]and reflect over them don't it doesn't necessarily have to be a
[5:36]goal for us to get as get through the whole quran as
[5:39]fast as possible that's good and there is a lot of merit
[5:42]and reward in it but you want to take a step further
[5:47]you want to reflect over what allah is telling you you want
[5:51]to look if you can look into the exegesis that the scholars
[5:55]have like to have for example these are good tafasir that scholars
[6:02]recommend for one to look into and this will help you build
[6:06]that connection with the holy quran so we've mentioned that as we
[6:12]prepare for the holy month we want to recognize the blessings that
[6:17]we have the first of which we said is rasulullah the second
[6:23]is we said the quran the actual physical quran so as this
[6:29]month was arriving the holy prophet gave his famous sermon there's a
[6:35]sermon if you look into the if you look in our books
[6:37]especially you find a sermon that the prophet used to recite when
[6:43]the holy month was approaching just like it is now insha'allah in
[6:48]a couple of days we'll be entering the beautiful and blessed month
[6:52]of shahar ramadan so in that sermon the holy prophet says some
[7:00]profound statements the very first thing he tells the muslims as he
[7:03]is given the sermon he says to them that the month of
[7:07]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is approaching you so this is the month
[7:13]of allah the prophet is telling them all the months belong to
[7:17]allah but this one is very special to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[7:20]this one is the one where if you want to do any
[7:24]mustahab this is the month you want to aim for to doing
[7:27]recommendations because if you look later on in the sermon it is
[7:31]mentioned that your recitation of one verse is equivalent to you reciting
[7:35]many more verses in other months but allah subhanahu ta'ala is giving
[7:41]you this opportunity in this month so the prophet says that this
[7:44]is a month that is attributed to allah and has arrived with
[7:48]blessings it's arrived with the blessings with forgiveness with mercy this is
[7:53]all a bundle that is coming to us in this beautiful month
[7:56]of shah ramadan its days are the best of days its nights
[8:01]are the best of nights and this is one of my favorite
[8:08]parts you are invited to be a guest of allah subhanahu ta'ala
[8:13]imagine allah subhanahu wa ta'ala you get that invitation um you get
[8:16]it in your mail and it's signed and allah subhanahu ta'ala is
[8:22]inviting you to a certain place and he's telling you that this
[8:26]month you're going to be my guest how would that make you
[8:30]feel how comforting is it that allah recognizes somebody like me or
[8:37]you and invites them to a banquet and he and he has
[8:40]as one of my teachers used to say he has put up
[8:44]he has put so many options in front of you so one
[8:47]of my teachers used to beautifully um talk about shahid ramallah and
[8:52]he used to say this and i i always clicked with me
[8:56]it was beautiful when we go to somebody's house right now after
[9:00]kova things changed but before kovit when you go to somebody's house
[9:03]do you go empty-handed or do you take something with you when
[9:07]you used to be invited for like a thought you take something
[9:09]with you right the etiquette proper etiquette dictates that you take something
[9:15]with you when you go to somebody's house so you take for
[9:18]example sweets with you you go to the house of this individual
[9:20]that has invited you you sit you observe the etiquettes of a
[9:24]guest you don't you don't walk around the house you start wandering
[9:27]around the house right if you want to use the restroom for
[9:30]example you ask for permission and you don't do anything that might
[9:36]bring about anger to the host right you don't go like for
[9:41]example you don't sit and you put your feet up on the
[9:42]table that's not this these are proper etiquettes that we know you
[9:47]don't do at someone else's house so my teacher used to tell
[9:54]us that in this month we are coming towards allah subhanahu wa
[9:58]ta'ala and he has invited us he has told you come you're
[10:00]my guest today in sha allah but what have we taken with
[10:04]us have we taken with us sweets no we're not taking swedes
[10:08]because it's not a physical invitation right what we take with us
[10:16]is we bring towards this month the mistakes and the sins that
[10:21]we have committed and allah subhanahu ta'ala just like a host does
[10:24]when he invites his guest when you walk into the month of
[10:29]ramadan it's as if allah subhanahu wa it's taking those sins from
[10:32]you and he's saying here let me take these from you just
[10:34]like a host would do you know when you take the sweets
[10:36]from the guest let me take this for you and allah subhanahu
[10:41]wa allah wants to forgive your sins in this holy month and
[10:44]he's told you that these days are the best of days these
[10:48]nights are the best of nights these uh these minutes are the
[10:53]best of minutes and then he has told you that i put
[10:57]in front of you multiple things one of which is your breathing
[11:03]is considered what i test in this month your breath is considered
[11:09]a taste your sleep is considered a worship right and so some
[11:14]people love that that's like the only thing they take from the
[11:19]sermon is that part right they stay up until uh it's hard
[11:22]time playing uh xbox and playstation and then they wake up out
[11:28]of thought time and they tell you it's worship um it is
[11:31]worship but allah subhanahu wa ta'ala but the potential you have is
[11:33]much greater so and this is this is really what islam wants
[11:37]from us it wants us to reach our maximum potential so allah
[11:43]subhanahu ta'ala has offered to reward you for your breath for your
[11:48]sleep um your duas in this month are answered allah subhanahu ta
[11:52]allah says allah subhanahu wa says ask from me in this month
[11:57]i will answer you just ask from me in this month allah
[12:02]subhanahu wa ta'ala said that i have made you among the people
[12:06]of honor all my guests that are coming into this month and
[12:11]unfortunately the prophet says unfortunate is the one who is deprived from
[12:17]the mercy of allah in this blessed month the one who does
[12:21]not receive any blessings of allah ta'ala in this month he's the
[12:25]unfortunate one he's the one who is truly lost because he was
[12:29]not or she was not able to take advantage of these blessings
[12:34]that allah has put forth in this holy month and then and
[12:49]then the prophet says as he continues the sermon he says remember
[12:56]the thirst of the day of judgment while you're fasting remember the
[13:01]thirst of the day of judgment and the hunger of the day
[13:05]of judgment so if somebody was like to close their eyes and
[13:09]imagine the scene on the day of judgement how many of us
[13:14]are going to be looking for our friends on the day of
[13:17]judgment raise your hand if you're going to be looking for your
[13:18]friends on the day of judgment we have one brother he said
[13:23]he's gonna he's gonna be looking for his friend alhamdulillah i want
[13:25]to be your friend in sha allah the holy quran when it
[13:30]talks about [Music] the day of judgment what does it say it
[13:34]says that the day yamaha that this is the day where the
[13:42]individual will flee they will run away from their own parents their
[13:47]father and mother their siblings and even their significant others this is
[13:53]the day where everyone is worried about themselves you're not worried about
[13:58]anything else all you're worried about is your salvation and how you're
[14:01]going to succeed on the day of judgment so brother inshallah are
[14:06]you going to be looking for your friends that's it so on
[14:13]the day of judgment this is the scene the quran tells us
[14:18]and picture and illustrates for us so you can imagine what somebody
[14:26]might be going through the prophet is saying that that state of
[14:29]hunger and that state of thirst think about think about as you're
[14:34]thirsty and while you're fasting if we want to take it to
[14:42]another level the the prophet did i mentioned this in the sermon
[14:46]but also to remember you know while we're fasting it's it's beautiful
[14:50]to always remember because what he did for this religion was was
[15:01]it's too is is too great to talk about sometimes imam al-hussein
[15:07]gave everything and he sacrificed his own life his family's life for
[15:12]the sake of the religion of islam so to remember the thirst
[15:17]of sayid shahada is something very very honorable to remember how he
[15:23]went and how he suffered on the plains of karbala all for
[15:26]who all for the sake of us essentially because if it wasn't
[15:30]for the decision of imam hussain to go and and revolt against
[15:36]the tyrannical leader of his time he knew that the religion may
[15:39]have been lost and tainted by those who were in power at
[15:45]the time so anyways the prophet says remember the thirst of the
[15:50]day of judgment and then he he says to sponsor the orphans
[15:54]look after the orphans allah subhana wa ta'ala will look after your
[16:00]orphans so one day you never know allah subhanahu wa you might
[16:03]be the one that leaves children behind and they are orphaned just
[16:06]like you want somebody to look after your very own children then
[16:10]look after the children of others the prophet says and then the
[16:15]prophet says to respect our elders in this month dignify your elders
[16:21]don't be disrespectful to them you know sometimes sometimes it's sad because
[16:28]some of the trends that we see in today's world require you
[16:32]to be disrespectful with some of our elders just for the sake
[16:38]of gaining popularity and making some people laugh and so and for
[16:44]some gratification people are willing to do some things that are ill-mannered
[16:49]they're not they're not from the akhlaq of somebody who follows to
[16:53]do it but yeah they do it for the sake of gaining
[16:57]popularity now this is something that we really have to think about
[17:01]in today's age because a lot of things around us that are
[17:07]happening and it really needs like someone to evaluate some of these
[17:11]trends before one would just contribute towards doing them so sponsoring the
[17:17]orphans dignifying the elders the prophet also mentions that the gates of
[17:21]the heavens are open in this month the gates of the heavens
[17:26]are open in this month and so ask allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[17:28]so that you are among those who are going to enter in
[17:34]sha allah paradise with al-imam al-hussein with the holy prophet and this
[17:40]always reminds me of one line in kumail it's one of my
[17:45]favorite lines personally one of the lines he says and you to
[17:58]allah you separate it between me and those whom you love those
[18:04]who are closest to you imagine on the day of judgment allah
[18:09]subhanahu wa ta'ala was to tell us you can't be near imam
[18:12]hussain you can't be near rasulullah because of the actions that you
[18:20]used to do because you wanted to do certain things then step
[18:24]away you're not you're not able to stand next to imam hussain
[18:29]now this is not to make anybody despair and this is another
[18:35]extreme spectrum that we see in today's age and despairing is is
[18:41]a huge it's a huge sin in islam islam has no room
[18:44]for somebody to despair allah says that the ones who have been
[18:48]extravagant on their sins ask allah subhana for repentance allah allah if
[18:54]you study is if you study like islam and the way things
[18:59]work it really seems like allah he just wants you to succeed
[19:01]when you do a good deed he records a stand for you
[19:05]when you do a bad deed it's recorded as one when when
[19:09]you do certain things when you think of doing good allah rewards
[19:13]you and if you go and you read like some of these
[19:16]hadith that we have it seems like allah subhanahu wa he set
[19:19]up the system for you to succeed all you have to do
[19:23]is just follow follow the path of rasulullah and in this in
[19:27]this month it would be an amazing opportunity for us to become
[19:31]closer to the holy prophet how can we become closer to the
[19:37]holy prophet read upon his life read how rasulullah is to deal
[19:41]with certain individuals read with the stances rasulullah used to do like
[19:45]one of my favorite stories um they say a sheikh bhushay utkar
[19:50]one of my favorite stories about the prophet is when he's doing
[19:54]tawaf around the kaaba and there's this nomad that is walking around
[19:59]the kaaba and he starts reciting the noah says ya kareem and
[20:05]so the prophet hears him and he says ya kareem and so
[20:07]the nobe the nomad reiterates ya kareem and he thought the prophet
[20:12]was like mocking him so the prophet says yeah kill him again
[20:15]so this nomad turns to rasulullah and he says to him you
[20:20]know are you mocking me is that what you're trying to do
[20:24]and and then he told him i will complain to you to
[20:27]the prophet and he was a believer in the message of islam
[20:31]so rasulullah you can imagine in that in that position he wasn't
[20:37]he wasn't mocking him but the prophet out of his love for
[20:41]allah subhanahu wa to allah he heard him recite yeah so he's
[20:44]reiterating kind of like sometimes you know when someone says ya allah
[20:48]and then like others say allah so then this nomad he the
[20:53]prophet asks him he tells him so oh nomad do you know
[20:58]who your prophet is he told him no i don't know who
[21:02]my prophet is but i believe in his message because i i
[21:04]heard his message and i have accepted it and so rasulullah tells
[21:09]him o nomad i am the prophet of islam and the guy
[21:14]quickly tried to kiss the hand of rasulullah and rasulallah would refuse
[21:17]and he told him do not treat me the treatment of the
[21:23]kings that is not why i was sent and so then this
[21:26]nomad he asks the prophet he tells him is it true that
[21:30]allah subhanahu ta'ala is going to hold me accountable for every big
[21:34]thing and every small thing that i will commit the prophet they
[21:39]say the narration states that he gets he gets word from jupiter
[21:48]if allah is going to hold me accountable i will hold allah
[21:55]accountable so rasulallah you know he's he's curious now and he's thinking
[21:58]you know how how is how are you this creation of allah
[22:01]going to hold allah accountable so then he tells him that if
[22:06]allah holds me accountable for my stinginess i will hold him accountable
[22:11]for his generosity if he holds me accountable for my sins and
[22:15]my mistakes i will hold him accountable for his forgiveness and his
[22:20]mercy the narration states that the holy prophet began to weep until
[22:27]his beard became wet from his tears and then descends to rasulullah
[22:32]and he tells him he says ya rasulullah tell this nomad that
[22:38]allah subhanahu wa allah will not hold him accountable for your crying
[22:42]was difficult for for the angels to see and tell this nomad
[22:47]will not hold him accountable and he will be your he will
[22:51]be your neighbor in paradise and that that the the holding accountable
[22:58]is very similar we see it in but it's not in the
[23:01]same manner where you hold allah to allah accountable it's it's in
[23:04]the manner that you know if allah was to call me out
[23:07]for my sins on the day of judgment i will ask allah
[23:10]you know where is your mercy oh allah subhanahu wa ta'ala as
[23:13]we say in this is not what we have assumed from your
[23:19]generosity and from your mercy anyways to go back to the sermon
[23:24]of rasulallah after he mentions the the gates uh of heaven are
[23:29]open the he there's also mentioned um i think a lot of
[23:34]people know this that the the shayatin the satan is shackled in
[23:40]this month right that's something we hear a lot that is shackled
[23:45]in this month and allah keeps him away in this month so
[23:50]these are some things um to remember trying to recall i recognize
[23:57]the blessings of allah subhanahu ta'ala the prophet the holy quran and
[24:00]what the prophet brought from the message another point that i wanted
[24:07]to make and this is essential in this month after we recognize
[24:12]these blessings is refinement we have to refine ourselves we have to
[24:19]work towards refining ourselves it's not it's not as simple as just
[24:25]wanting to do something good sometimes because of some of the habits
[24:28]we have built for ourselves some of the things we are used
[24:32]to so i want you guys to do something real quick i
[24:36]want you guys to close your eyes and imagine you're driving down
[24:41]a highway you're driving down the highway the next exit is 20
[24:49]miles away from you so as you're driving at sunset you're listening
[24:55]to quran your favorite or preferred reciter what can possibly go wrong
[25:02]for you as you're driving you realize that you're low on fuel
[25:10]and you have like 15 miles left and you need 20 miles
[25:17]until the next exit how does that make you feel if somebody
[25:19]wants to share that's fine anxiety brother what is that hopeless so
[25:31]should you have been more mindful of this before you went on
[25:38]your journey so very similarly a centum for the responses very similarly
[25:43]we are on a journey in this life we're away faring right
[25:47]because we don't believe islamically that when you die it's the end
[25:52]this is this is a phase that you're going through this world
[25:55]of dunya and then you will be transferred to the next world
[26:02]so imagine you're way faring or you're driving for a lack of
[26:09]a better term and your vehicle is indicating that you are law
[26:14]on something and that something is very essential you need this and
[26:20]a beautiful narration amir al-mu'manin alaihi salam he says to his companions
[26:26]he takes them with him to the graveyard and he tells he
[26:30]begins to speak to the people of the graves and he says
[26:35]to them that as for your houses someone else's own as for
[26:40]your spouses they've moved on as for your wealth it's been distributed
[26:44]amir al-mu'mineen says that this is the news that we have in
[26:50]our world what is the news that you have in your world
[26:52]amir al-mu'min he looks to his companions and he says to them
[26:57]that if allah gave them permission to speak to you they would
[27:01]have told you that the best provision is taqwa that the best
[27:09]thing you can take with you from this world to the next
[27:15]world is taqwa who knows what taqwa is so it's being conscious
[27:25]being wary of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that's what taqwa is says
[27:30]this is the best provision that you can take with you from
[27:33]this world to the next world so to go back to our
[27:35]example you're you're wayfaring you're going towards allah subhanahu wa ta'ala and
[27:41]your level of taqwa is low and you got that that yellow
[27:45]light you know like the low fuel light you got that yellow
[27:51]light and you need to step up your taqwa or else you're
[27:53]not going to make it the destination you have set for yourself
[27:57]i'm pretty sure everybody's destination insha allah is to be among the
[28:00]prophet and the fam and the holy progeny nobody wants to be
[28:05]with anyone else but if you don't practice god consciousness then you
[28:14]might not have enough fuel to reach your destination and shah ramadan
[28:19]is beautiful for this why because if you tie this hadith to
[28:26]the verse that allah says when allah says prescribed upon you is
[28:42]fasting like it was prescribed upon those before you perhaps you may
[28:50]attain god consciousness so fasting one of the things that it helps
[28:53]with other than it disciplines you and in a narration it does
[28:57]mention that you know the one who fast it helps them to
[29:00]empathize with those who are less fortunate it helps with taqwa it
[29:06]helps with god consciousness when you fast and amir al-mu'manin says that
[29:11]this is the best provision you can take with you so as
[29:15]we're moving and we're going towards allah subhana wa we need that
[29:20]fuel we need that taqwa to carry us from here to our
[29:25]desired destination and that is to become god-conscious how can i become
[29:31]more god-conscious in my daily life ramadan is coming this is the
[29:36]perfect time for us to work on ourselves to take for example
[29:40]one bad habit take one bad habit in yourself and promise yourself
[29:45]write it down on a paper promise yourself you want to get
[29:50]rid of this bad habit for example the other day me and
[29:52]one of the younger brothers we were discussing something and we were
[29:56]talking about swearing for example if you think about it if you
[30:02]were to swear which is not permissible in islam if you were
[30:07]to swear once every day how many how many sins are you
[30:12]accumulating in a year 365 and there's this subhanallah this reminds me
[30:20]of one narration where the the prophet calls his companions to gather
[30:25]some wood so that they can start a fire and then some
[30:29]of them and some of them brought like twigs and so they
[30:33]thought like what is this gonna do so i'm gonna do anything
[30:35]small two how are you gonna start a fire with twig so
[30:38]they started to bring twigs and then they got a lot of
[30:44]them eventually when you put a lot of twigs together you're gonna
[30:47]form a good amount of wood and then so they created a
[30:51]fire and the prophet mentions he mentioned this to them that your
[30:54]the sins are in the same way you know belittling a sin
[30:57]is not something in good for us or in our favor because
[31:01]the sins will accumulate and slowly they will become very big so
[31:09]to go back to um the example of swearing for example you
[31:13]take that and you say to yourself i'm going to challenge myself
[31:20]that in this month i'm not going to say any bad word
[31:23]i'm not going to use any profanity i'm not going to if
[31:26]it's not if it's something else that you want to change in
[31:30]your in your life then that's great too write it down and
[31:33]then for example every time you do it you can write it
[31:36]down write down that you did it on this one time at
[31:41]this time at this day and then find a way to make
[31:45]yourself and hold yourself accountable this inshallah will help us with gaining
[31:51]god consciousness because essentially god consciousness is what is just to constantly
[31:58]remember allah subhanahu wa ta'ala it's not it's not something easy and
[32:02]we're not saying you know to that you're going to reach it
[32:06]and you're going to be 24 7 remembering allah subhana wa that's
[32:08]difficult and we know that's that's not that's not very practical for
[32:14]many people so but the best you can do is to surround
[32:18]yourself with somebody who does that at least if you have a
[32:22]problem then look around you see your friends see if they're willing
[32:24]to do the same thing because your friends they have a big
[32:28]influence on you and if you ask parents you know sometimes sometimes
[32:33]i work with parents in the community and they tell me about
[32:38]like their teenage children one of the biggest things that the parents
[32:42]struggle with is they can't get to their children but who can
[32:45]the friends can right the friends can get to their children easily
[32:50]whatever the trend is they follow whatever their friends are doing they
[32:58]follow so let's look around us in this month of ramadan and
[33:01]see who are those around us if we can help them and
[33:05]ask them to join us so that we become better than bismillah
[33:09]that's beautiful you'd be refining yourself you'd be refining your friends but
[33:14]sometimes you have to be cautious and you have to be wary
[33:19]that some people might not be ready that's not to say they're
[33:21]evil individuals or that they're doomed no just that at this at
[33:25]the point of the at the in their point in their life
[33:29]right now they're not ready for this they're not willing to accept
[33:33]you can't make somebody accept you can only grow the seeds this
[33:47]growing the seeds that reminds me of a story one time when
[33:54]i was at wayne state university i was eating at this restaurant
[34:03]and there was a couple guys there sitting on the table of
[34:05]their own and one of them did actually i think um i
[34:09]think three of them or at least i don't know maybe one
[34:14]of them they did something that was out of line that was
[34:16]not proper and was not appropriate so i was standing there and
[34:21]the line was long so like i was right next to their
[34:22]table so i thought to myself you know should i tell them
[34:28]anything um should i do um as islam tells us i was
[34:34]hesitant to be honest and i was a little anxious because it's
[34:38]like you know this can go either way either they'll jump me
[34:41]or or they might be accepting so then i said you know
[34:47]what what don't i just try and give it give it a
[34:49]shot and i sat with these brothers and i told them you
[34:54]know i didn't mean to listen to your conversation but i'm like
[34:56]standing right there i'm like literally right next to your table and
[35:00]i heard one two three and i don't think that you guys
[35:05]it's proper to say what you guys said now two of them
[35:09]i remember were accepting and they realized that they did wrong um
[35:14]one of them was like offended and he kept trying like to
[35:20]justify his actions and his friends would like be sitting next to
[35:25]him they would like nudge him and they would tell him like
[35:26]you know just give it up it's not worth it bro so
[35:31]eventually you know we ended the conversation i got up and i
[35:37]went about my day i kid you guys not and this is
[35:40]not like this is not anything like special um but a year
[35:45]and a half later literally i think it was around that time
[35:49]a year and a half later this this is this is to
[35:52]show you know how you can sometimes you just need to grow
[35:54]the seeds in somebody and they're not ready at that time but
[35:59]they might be a year and a half later one of them
[36:01]comes up to me at the mosque at the ica and he
[36:05]i walk outside between maghrib and aisha prayer i remember my lip
[36:13]was bleeding and so i wanted to go wash i remember it
[36:15]vividly as i step out of the doors like between the main
[36:19]doors and the bathroom doors in the hallway he comes to me
[36:22]and he's walking and he greets me brother i'm like and he
[36:27]says to me i just want to he says to me do
[36:31]you remember you don't remember me do you and i'm looking at
[36:33]his face and i i really didn't remember him at the time
[36:35]because it's been a while and i didn't even know him personally
[36:39]to remember him anyways he tells me i was one of those
[36:44]guys that was sitting on that table at the x place and
[36:47]he told me i just wanted to say thank you and literally
[36:51]he just walked away and i just stood there like astonished and
[36:57]fascinated and then i looked inside and i swear this guy was
[37:00]praying a prayer that was so sincere like i was jealous of
[37:07]him he looked like he was so calm he was so he
[37:08]was feeling the sense of tranquility serenity as he was praying and
[37:14]i was like subhanallah you know i really like i'm not trying
[37:19]to be humble or anything i really didn't do anything like that
[37:21]day all i did was i told them i felt like you
[37:25]guys did something wrong but sometimes that's all a person needs the
[37:29]environment doesn't help them somebody comes to them and tells them listen
[37:32]this is not right and we all have a moral compass allah
[37:36]created us with a futura that tells us that this is not
[37:42]right for him all i did was i planted the seed and
[37:43]i think it got him to think and then eventually he changed
[37:48]and he said you know what i think this individual is right
[37:52]and so but subhan allah sometimes the person is not ready that's
[37:59]why if we want to bring others towards islam you know even
[38:02]the quran it tells us to call towards the religion with with
[38:06]wisdom you be wise with how you interact with others and and
[38:10]just give them time sometimes he just needs time and eventually the
[38:15]person will come to the conclusion that what they're doing is wrong
[38:18]but if you want to come to them from a from a
[38:22]place where you're condescending and you want to change them you want
[38:28]to force them to change this does a lot of disservice to
[38:32]that individual specifically because how many people do we know um if
[38:37]you tell them anything about religious events or religious people they run
[38:42]away there's a lot of them they run away and then if
[38:43]you ask them you sit with them and you tell them you
[38:47]know what's the problem why did this happen with you a lot
[38:48]of them will tell you they've had an experience with somebody that
[38:52]wasn't good so we have to be very wise with how we
[38:57]call someone and sometimes it's not with our tongues and this is
[39:01]what that always emphasize right do we don't don't call upon people
[39:07]towards the religion with your tongues rather do it with your actions
[39:11]through your actions let them see what your principles are all about
[39:15]insha allah to go into the final part of the conversation one
[39:21]way the scholars recommend for somebody who wants to gain god consciousness
[39:27]is to discipline the self and this disciplining of the self can
[39:33]be split into five steps the process is five steps the very
[39:37]first step for somebody that wants to gain con god consciousness they
[39:43]have to be aware the very first step they mention is murakaba
[39:47]murakaba means to monitor yourself it's to ask yourself what am i
[39:53]doing with my time did i back by a certain person or
[39:59]not and this is something huge like we we all myself included
[40:01]like we all have to be careful from this because sometimes like
[40:04]you don't think that you're you're doing anything wrong or you just
[40:08]want to mention something to somebody but you might be falling into
[40:13]back but backbiting the person and this act of backbiting is so
[40:17]uh is so disgusting that the quran when allah mentions it what
[40:23]does allah draw the parable with an example who remembers when allah
[40:29]talks about those who back by others it's like doing what it's
[40:35]like eating the flesh of your brothers and allah says you and
[40:42]and i know you hate it it's not something you like and
[40:44]that's why allah subhanahu wa put that example for you so the
[40:49]very first step is murakaba monitoring yourself notice everything that you do
[40:55]just notice everything that you do at the end of the day
[40:59]you know think about what is it that i have done think
[41:01]about um the acts i've done from good and bad doesn't have
[41:07]to be only bad just to be aware the the second step
[41:09]after you realize and you're you monitored yourself the scala is mentioned
[41:17]is to hold yourself accountable the holy prophet is to say hold
[41:26]yourselves accountable before you are held accountable hold yourselves accountable in this
[41:31]world before you are held accountable in the next world imam al-qaeda
[41:36]has a hadith he says he who does not scrutinize their self
[41:41]their nafs every day is not from us this is all inviting
[41:47]you to be more aware of all that that you do the
[41:52]second step we said is muha to hold yourself accountable the third
[41:59]step is is holding yourself accountable and blaming yourself after you commit
[42:08]a certain sin you feel this type of guilt and you say
[42:12]to yourself you know why did i do this in a hadith
[42:17]it is mentioned that when a hypocrite commits a sin to them
[42:20]the sin is like a fly that has come towards them and
[42:25]they're just trying to shoo it away but the mutman the believer
[42:30]when they commit a sin it feels like there's this huge mountain
[42:35]on their chest and i know everybody knows that feeling when you
[42:39]when you've done something wrong especially when you're younger right and your
[42:43]parents tell you don't do something and then you do it and
[42:48]then you feel like that sense of guilt the men the hadith
[42:51]says when they when they sin and disobey allah that's how they
[42:57]feel they feel like this huge boulder is sitting on their chest
[43:00]or this mountain so the first step we said is to monitor
[43:02]yourself it's called murakaba the second step is about holding yourself accountable
[43:07]the third step is it's also like holding yourself accountable but but
[43:13]a little bit further the fourth step is the men the scholars
[43:18]mentioned is called muharraba is to literally like to fight off this
[43:24]triggers that you have so to be vigilant be vigilant as to
[43:28]not fall into the same sin once again so if you know
[43:32]your sin is triggered by certain things now you have to work
[43:36]on those things right you you can't just focus on the sin
[43:41]and not worry about the triggers because then as time passes by
[43:45]if the same triggers occur you might fall into the same sin
[43:49]again if your triggers are friends that lead you towards something bad
[43:53]then you're either gonna have to change them or change them in
[43:59]the sense it works both ways either you change them in terms
[44:03]of the way they act or you change them you get rid
[44:05]of them in the sense that you don't befriend them and that
[44:09]that doesn't have to be done in a negative way but very
[44:11]respectfully you know you can tell the person and if they truly
[44:15]care for you they would understand if they truly cared for you
[44:19]they would understand you tell them that listen you know these things
[44:22]that are happening um i'm just trying to work on myself this
[44:25]is the month of allah subhanahu ta'ala i'm a guest and allah
[44:28]subhanahu ta'ala's banquet i'm trying to be a good guest i'm not
[44:31]trying to be one of those rude guests so i need to
[44:34]just like step away for a little that's fine the prophet says
[44:40]that the best type of struggle is the one against the self
[44:44]and if you notice the biggest challenge that we face is islamically
[44:48]is not external it's internal the greatest struggle islamically is the nafs
[44:56]and the narration it mentions like in the time of the prophet
[45:00]after they came back from a battle the prophet told them welcome
[45:04]to those who have accomplished the minor struggle minor and so they
[45:11]all like some of them were surprised like we almost lost our
[45:14]lives in that battle as a minor and the prophet told them
[45:17]because the greatest enemy that you face is that yourself and that's
[45:22]an enemy you're not fighting for a couple hours like in the
[45:26]battle you're fighting from day one until that last breath you take
[45:29]that so that nafs of yours is gonna always try to take
[45:33]you towards that which allah doesn't want you to go towards enough
[45:37]this step was the muharraba the final step is to just to
[45:44]become consistent with these actions you stayed away from a certain action
[45:48]become consistent where you don't relapse you don't fall back into the
[45:53]same sin once again you don't fall you don't fall back into
[45:56]that act once again so these are uh the five-step process that
[46:01]insha allah will be able to aid us um as we try
[46:06]to gain god-consciousness in the month of allah subhanahu ta'ala the holy
[46:11]month of ramadan we ask allah wa ta'ala to allow us to
[46:16]be among those who benefit from the holy month of ramadan those
[46:22]who understand the the magnitude of this holy month those who are
[46:27]able to connect with the holy quran because as the quran is
[46:30]literally as it is mentioned that it is the rope from the
[46:35]divine to us on earth allah subhanahu wa allah has created this
[46:39]as a way for us to remain connected and you probably heard
[46:44]this before it might be a little cliche but imagine allah was
[46:48]to send you an email if allah was going to send you
[46:53]an email how quickly would you respond to that email very quickly
[46:56]allah has given us this quran he says in it call on
[47:03]me call upon allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in these times the prophet
[47:06]mentions in the sermon that the best times to call upon god
[47:08]is after our daily prayers so these are all these are all
[47:14]opportunities that are put in front of us you're breathing we said
[47:18]it's tasbih your sleep is worship look at how allah subhanahu ta'ala
[47:22]has given you so many different avenues to to gain the reward
[47:27]and so essentially you are able to be among those who are
[47:32]successful on the days of judgment insha allah i don't want to
[47:35]take too much of your time we ask allah subhanahu ta allah
[47:37]to allow us to be among those who are with muhammad and
[47:42]muhammad we gift the reward of this lecture and the recitation of
[47:46]the holy quran to one of our dear brothers who has been
[47:50]recently diagnosed with an illness we ask allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to
[47:55]cure him and we give him the reward of this we ask
[47:58]allah subhanahu ta allah to preserve our respected scholars we ask allah
[48:03]to cure all the ill we ask allah to allow us to
[48:08]be among those who hasten the reappearance of imam al-mahdi to allah
