[0:02]Alhamdulillah.
[0:20]for [Music] illuminate your malis and your hearts for the love of
[1:02]respected scholars, brothers and sisters, we discussed the hadith of Imam last
[1:18]night.
[1:17]the hadith where the Imam mentions three very important favors of Allah
[1:28]subhanahu wa ta'ala each one of those is followed by a more
[1:33]important and we mentioned if allahel blesses someone with these three benefactions
[1:42]you really don't need anything else and if Allah subhah denies someone
[1:51]these three benefactions then life becomes very difficult.
[1:56]The im began with the first of those three.
[2:00]The first the im says amongst the of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[2:09]his favors is abundance of wealth and I explained what abundance of
[2:17]wealth means last night it doesn't mean having millions of dollars it
[2:22]just means having enough money for you to live a decent life
[2:29]so that you can provide for your family pay your bills, your
[2:33]rent or mortgage and live a dignified life.
[2:38]This is basically that you don't feel too cornered and pressured because
[2:46]of the expenses that you face.
[2:51]So this was the first that I alam spoke about.
[2:57]But then the im we said he goes on to speak about
[3:04]a second which is greater than he says and greater greater a
[3:21]blessing than abundance of wealth is having good health physical physical and
[3:29]mental health.
[3:30]You can enjoy life, brothers and sisters, to a degree if you
[3:36]don't have an abundance of wealth, but you're healthy.
[3:41]There's many things in life that are free to enjoy.
[3:44]Having a nice conversation, going to a sah that you're enjoying with
[3:55]your friends.
[3:55]This is doesn't require much money or wealth and you can enjoy
[4:01]it just as much as any wealthy person.
[4:04]Seeing some natural parts of the world if you're lucky enough to
[4:09]live next to an ocean.
[4:10]So, this really doesn't apply to us here in Michigan in this
[4:17]area.
[4:16]But let's say you go on a road trip with some friends
[4:20]up north.
[4:22]The scenery that you see is the same scenery that a wealthy
[4:26]person sees.
[4:27]Yes, maybe they'll have a nicer lodge so that they could sleep
[4:30]and spend, but at the end of the day, there's many things
[4:35]that you can enjoy without having to be wealthy.
[4:40]But the opposite isn't true.
[4:44]Meaning if Allah gives you an abundance of wealth but no health,
[4:51]it's very hard to enjoy anything in this dunya.
[4:54]If Allah subhana wa ta'ala gives you all the treasures of the
[5:01]world, but you have this very difficult disease, you're sick, you have
[5:06]to be in the hospital all the time, you have to be
[5:11]taking medication, you're not going to enjoy your wealth.
[5:12]Many times you're not even allowed to eat this, to do this,
[5:17]to go here, to do so many things that we naturally do
[5:21]in life.
[5:22]So, Im Ali says having good health, body, and also mental by
[5:35]the way.
[5:37]So when the im speaks about this also includes our mental health
[5:44]because inshallah tomorrow night I'll get to the third when the Imam
[5:49]mentions the third and that's the greatest we understand that any type
[5:56]of physical or mental health is meant by the second So let's
[6:04]say you have the best physical health and Allah has given you
[6:10]wealth but you don't have the mental health you have anxiety you
[6:14]have depression you have some sort of mental disorder that will deprive
[6:24]you from enjoying anything in the dunya I remember a couple of
[6:29]weeks ago I was watching the Piers Morgan and he was talking
[6:34]to someone.
[6:36]They were discussing something about wealth and how happy it makes you.
[6:41]So the guy that he was interviewing, I forgot who it was,
[6:46]he said something around these lines that many times wealth will come
[6:57]with a cost and the cost of that wealth, especially if it's
[7:01]a lot of wealth, it will come at the cost of mental
[7:06]health.
[7:07]and he started mentioning some examples and then Piers Morgan he agreed
[7:13]with him.
[7:15]He told him that most of the rich and wealthy people that
[7:19]I know are miserable from the inside.
[7:23]Meaning you may not be able to tell that they're miserable.
[7:25]They're laughing.
[7:28]They're smiling for the cameras, but deep down they have depression.
[7:32]They have anxiety.
[7:33]They're not happy.
[7:36]They're not content for one reason or another.
[7:37]So if Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives you wealth and he gives
[7:45]you health, physical health, but there is no mental health.
[7:49]You're not enjoying it because of these different reasons, these different sicknesses
[7:55]that also afflict the human being.
[7:59]then you will not enjoy whatever Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala has given
[8:08]you.
[8:09]I remember a couple of years ago there was a a very
[8:13]famous story of someone who made a game.
[8:16]He created a game for kids.
[8:17]I think it was called, if I'm not mistaken, Minecraft or something
[8:20]like that.
[8:24]and some big company, I think Microsoft, bought it from him for
[8:31]$2 billion.
[8:30]$2 billion.
[8:32]And this was a guy who lived on like 34,000 a month.
[8:37]Very average life.
[8:38]So he received everything that we dream, right?$2 billion dollars just out
[8:47]of the blue.
[8:46]And he started living the life.
[8:50]He went and he bought this huge huge mansion on the on
[8:53]the ocean and all these expensive cars and a private jet and
[8:56]the whole nine yards.
[8:59]If you remember, this was on the news maybe six, seven, eight
[9:03]years ago, something like that.
[9:06]Three months after living that extravagant life, three months Dear brothers, we
[9:20]do have a kids program.
[9:21]If you can, please take them.
[9:22]Inshallah, they can benefit their three months after he started living the
[9:37]extravagant life, he tweeted.
[9:40]I don't know.
[9:41]Do they say tweeted or did they say exed right now?
[9:43]I'm not sure what I'm supposed to say, but he tweeted back
[9:48]then when it was called Twitter, "I'm bored.
[9:53]I don't know what to do." And everyone was surprised.
[9:57]You're bored?
[9:58]Come on.
[9:58]Got to be serious.
[10:00]You just got $2 billion.
[10:01]And then when he was asked, he's like, "Okay, I bought everything.
[10:08]I did everything that I wanted to do in my wildest dreams.
[10:14]Okay, now what?
[10:12]I'm bored.
[10:14]He didn't have much family members.
[10:15]He didn't have that many friends because he, you know, when you
[10:18]become wealthy overnight, you don't even know who's your real friend anymore.
[10:23]You don't know.
[10:24]Are they just opportunistic people who just want to be your friend
[10:28]because you're wealthy now or are they genuine friends?
[10:32]It's it's hard.
[10:32]So sometimes what happened is with people that they swiftly become wealthy
[10:38]is they start to push away all their friends because they're confused.
[10:44]They don't know who's that genuine friend versus the opportunistic friend.
[10:48]Three months later, he was bored and he got depressed.
[10:54]He had the wealth.
[10:54]It seems like he was healthy physically, but he felt like he
[11:00]has no more purpose in this life.
[11:02]So he says that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala gives you these subsequent
[11:11]each one that is greater than the one before it wealth after
[11:18]that my dear brothers and sisters is something that we all strive
[11:33]drive to achieve and to maintain having a healthy life, leading a
[11:38]healthy lifestyle.
[11:39]But like I mentioned last night, we mentioned this and we ended
[11:46]on it.
[11:45]We realize the hard way many times in life that staying healthy
[11:51]all the time is not possible.
[11:55]And that's because sickness, illness, disease, may Allahel protect you from all
[12:03]of them, is an intrinsic part of life.
[12:07]Allahawel engineered this life to include sickness.
[12:10]You hear about some people who want to end all sickness, all
[12:16]diseases.
[12:16]It's not possible, brothers and sisters.
[12:18]It's like someone who says, "I want to end pain in this
[12:23]duny." The only way to really end pain and sickness is to
[12:27]ask Allah to take away your soul and go to paradise.
[12:29]Why did Allah create and we're trying to create the Jenna here?
[12:34]It doesn't make sense.
[12:37]Allah has designed the best Jenna.
[12:39]Yes, mitigate, help those that are in pain, those that are sick,
[12:43]of course, but to try to eliminate every source of pain and
[12:49]suffering in this world, that's not even possible because this is not
[12:55]why the dunya was created or how it was engineered by Allah
[12:59]subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
[12:59]So sickness is an intrinsic part of life.
[13:02]It's unseparable from life.
[13:06]From the day that we're born until we die, how many times
[13:09]do we get sick?
[13:10]How many times do we get ill?
[13:15]All different kinds of viruses and sicknesses and illnesses and they take
[13:21]a toll on us, brothers and sisters.
[13:22]When when we're sick, even if it's not something serious, it takes
[13:28]a toll on us.
[13:28]I think everyone here, everyone can attest to CO.
[13:34]I don't think anybody here could say that, you know what, I
[13:38]did not get sick.
[13:38]Maybe you never tested, but almost everyone got sick with CO.
[13:43]Some worse, some better.
[13:43]We know how terrible it feels when you're sick.
[13:47]The fever, you can't move, you have no appetite, your entire body
[13:51]is aching, you're bored many times, right?
[13:54]One of the problems of of getting sick sometimes is boredom because
[13:59]you don't go to work, you don't go to school, sometimes you
[14:02]have to go to the hospital and you just get bored.
[14:03]What do I do?
[14:06]So sickness is something that we hate, something that we fear that
[14:09]we try to get rid of.
[14:13]As we said, let's eliminate sickness in life.
[14:15]But as I mentioned last night, my dear brothers and sisters, sometimes
[14:22]Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala's greatest mercy and blessings to us comes in
[14:29]the form of sickness.
[14:30]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's gift to believers comes disguised as sickness.
[14:41]And there are so many traditions from Allah and from theatam that
[14:47]try to give us a different perspective on sickness and illness.
[14:54]In one hadith, the prophet sallallah.aihi wasallam says when we're sick, all
[15:14]we do is what?
[15:15]We do dua to Allah.
[15:18]Ya Allah, cure me and cure me and cure me.
[15:21]We say it so many times that maybe because of how much
[15:24]we annoy Allah, he's going to say, "I'm gonna cure you just
[15:29]so you stop annoying me." So we just want Allah subhana t
[15:36]to c quickly cure us.
[15:35]Allah says, "As for the believer," and all of you here are
[15:38]believers.
[15:40]He says, "If the believer only knew the benefits of being sick
[15:49]and how great that condition is for him, and we'll explain how."
[15:54]Then they would never ask Allah to cure them.
[15:58]They would see that the pain and the struggle and the suffering
[16:01]is worth it.
[16:03]Because we human beings, we have high tolerance when it comes to
[16:08]suffering and pain.
[16:08]It's just your psychological attitude.
[16:11]It's your attitude.
[16:14]If if you think that it's worth it, then you'll easily cope
[16:19]with it.
[16:21]But if you don't understand why it's happening, you don't know what's
[16:25]the benefit, then you become so impatient.
[16:28]The greatest evidence to this is look at how much trouble we
[16:35]go through in life and we're completely okay with it.
[16:40]We are happy with that trouble.
[16:43]For example, this is mostly not only but mostly with guys.
[16:50]Sometimes I'll I want to say I'll go to the gym but
[16:55]I'll be lying.
[16:56]So I watch on, you know, on YouTube people in the gym
[16:59]and how hard they work.
[17:03]When I see two hours of just lifting weights, of running and
[17:09]then the the sweat, I don't know how many gallons of sweat.
[17:14]And they're having fun.
[17:17]They're listening to some music.
[17:17]After those two hours, they come out even happier than they were
[17:24]before.
[17:22]While in reality that was a torture session.
[17:27]It was a torture session.
[17:30]What's so nice?
[17:29]What's so cool about that?
[17:33]It's not fun.
[17:32]But why do our youth Why do so many people love going
[17:38]to the gym?
[17:38]Why?
[17:40]It's not comfortable.
[17:43]It's the most miserable place to be.
[17:45]just carrying weight, carrying weight, carry and bringing pressure and and and
[17:51]pain on your body.
[17:54]But why do we enjoy it?
[17:55]You know why?
[17:57]When they start seeing those biceps, when they start seeing those muscles,
[18:02]they're like, "It's worth it." So, what makes them patient?
[18:09]Not only patient, what makes them enjoy the pain?
[18:11]Enjoy.
[18:12]Yes.
[18:13]Enjoy the pain.
[18:14]the results, the reward.
[18:17]So we human beings are very patient.
[18:21]Sometimes you ask a brother to wait five minutes, they can't wait
[18:26]five minutes.
[18:28]They want to scream, they want to leave, they want to explode
[18:33]because they have to wait in line or they have to wait
[18:37]for an appointment or something.
[18:38]But he was just at the gym two hours and he was
[18:42]so patient there.
[18:43]It's because this weights, they don't understand what's the point of it.
[18:51]They're impatient.
[18:51]And not just with going to the gym.
[18:57]So many things in life, brothers and sisters, sometimes also once again,
[19:00]you'll see on the on the internet, some ladies, right, that go
[19:08]to the salon, like there's a wedding.
[19:11]They'll spend three or four hours under the mercy of some other
[19:15]lady of poking them and putting all this makeup and doing their
[19:19]hair.
[19:19]Honestly, it's a torture session.
[19:23]Three, four hours.
[19:24]Don't move.
[19:25]Don't do this.
[19:27]But why are they so happy?
[19:28]Not just happy they're paying, I hear sometimes three, four, $500 for
[19:32]that torture session.
[19:36]Why?
[19:34]Because once they look at the mirror after they're done, they'll be
[19:40]happy.
[19:41]They'll be content.
[19:44]It was worth it.
[19:44]How are they so patient there?
[19:45]But then with some smaller things, salah takes too long.
[19:52]The lecture if we exceeded five minutes, oh, the lecture took too
[19:56]long.
[19:57]You were last week you were sitting four hours doing your nails
[20:00]and your hair and your makeup and all that and you were
[20:05]okay with that and you were paying $500 for that $300.
[20:07]What happened to you?
[20:09]Where did all that patience go?
[20:13]When we don't value something, brothers and sisters, and we don't understand
[20:17]what we're getting out of it, we become so impatient.
[20:21]One minute becomes like one hour.
[20:23]And the opposite is the same.
[20:24]When you value something, when you understand what this will buy you,
[20:30]what this will get you, you become so tolerant, you become so
[20:36]patient, you become like prophet Aub as we'll speak about inshallah because
[20:41]you understand that it's worth it.
[20:42]So with that brothers and sisters if we understand the benefits of
[20:50]sickness, illness and disease, we will be much more patient, tolerant and
[20:58]appreciative of even the times when Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tries us
[21:04]with sickness.
[21:04]So inshallah I'll discuss this tonight and tomorrow.
[21:14]So let's analyze the different types of sicknesses that Allah subhana t
[21:20]may afflict us with.
[21:21]Scholars state that there are two types of sicknesses or two reasons
[21:28]why we get sick.
[21:30]The first is a selfinflicted sick sickness.
[21:35]Sometimes we get sick and this is many times because of our
[21:40]own actions.
[21:42]It's our fault.
[21:43]We feel angry with Allah subhana wa tala and we complain when
[21:49]it's all my fault.
[21:48]Allah has nothing to do with it.
[21:52]When we did not engage in healthy behavior, I don't exercise.
[21:57]I'm not active.
[22:00]I smoke.
[22:02]Correct?
[22:03]And most importantly, when my diet is not healthy, I eat whatever
[22:07]I find on the shelves, then I get sick.
[22:12]I'm surprised.
[22:13]Ya Allah, why am I sick?
[22:15]Are you mad at me?
[22:18]No, Habibi, I'm not mad at you.
[22:20]You're just going to Walmart and Target and all these stores too
[22:26]too often.
[22:26]You're buying too many things that you don't need.
[22:29]So many of the sicknesses, brothers and sisters, it's because of our
[22:35]food.
[22:35]I read once in a report that up to 20% 20% of
[22:40]today's deaths, people that die is because of poor diet.
[22:47]Meaning that they it's not that they did not have food like
[22:49]the people of GZA.
[22:51]There's people that die because of malnutrition, not enough diet.
[22:53]And there's people that die because they're eating the wrong foods.
[22:56]And this happens in the wealthy countries.
[23:00]20% of deaths because we don't eat the right foods.
[23:05]We eat too much or we're not eating the healthy foods.
[23:09]And most of the sicknesses today, the diseases, you can trace them
[23:13]back to what you ate.
[23:16]And the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam mentions this in one hadith.
[23:20]He says, he says your stomach is the house of sickness.
[23:28]Meaning it's a sickness producing machine.
[23:31]You put food into it, it gives you sickness.
[23:35]if you're not giving yourself the right food.
[23:37]And it's becoming worse and worse every year, brothers and sisters, because
[23:43]we are deviating from the original natural foods that Allah subhana wa
[23:47]ta'ala has created.
[23:46]The natural foods that Allah has created, if you eat them in
[23:50]moderation, they're all good for us.
[23:56]And that's why Allah says in the Holy Quran, eat and drink
[24:00]from the of Allah, but do not what?
[24:03]Do not overdo it.
[24:05]Do not overeat.
[24:07]When you overeat, this is when the problems start.
[24:10]The problems start when we overeat.
[24:14]And when we start eating processed foods, unnatural foods, refined foods, foods
[24:17]that only Allah knows what chemical process they have went through in
[24:25]the labs and then we eat them.
[24:29]We get sick.
[24:28]Or else the natural foods of Allah subhana wa tala, they're all
[24:33]good.
[24:32]There's a hadith I believe from ima where he says dieting there's
[24:37]all these sorts of diets what to eat how much to eat
[24:42]calories carbs so on so forth the im says dieting is not
[24:44]about not eating you can eat it's not even limiting the types
[24:51]of food that you should eat it's about what it's about restricting
[24:56]not eating too much now today you might say well there's a
[25:01]lot of unhealthy foods yeah because those aren aren't natural.
[25:04]But if you eat the natural foods that Allah, as we call
[25:09]them, the organic foods today that Allah has created in moderation, you
[25:13]will not need to stay away from anything.
[25:16]Why do I have to stay away from red meat?
[25:19]Why do I have to stay away from carbs?
[25:21]Why do I?
[25:22]It's because I did something wrong in the beginning.
[25:23]I messed up the system.
[25:26]I ate too much in the beginning or I was having the
[25:29]wrong combinations of the nutrients and now I can no longer my
[25:32]stomach can no longer tolerate for example carbs or else who said
[25:38]carbs are bad even sugar the natural sugar not the ones that
[25:40]they sell in the stores that I don't even know how they
[25:43]make even that one brothers and sisters it's healthy for you there's
[25:46]nothing wrong in it as long as it's in moderation but when
[25:49]sugar is placed in everything even probably in the water that we
[25:54]drink that's why now we're afraid of sugar and it has such
[25:58]a bad reputation.
[25:58]So anyway, most of the sicknesses that we see, it's our fault.
[26:08]They are caused by us by poor diet, by smoking, and some
[26:13]other bad habits.
[26:13]And then there's the second type of sicknesses that scholars state, no,
[26:17]these aren't really our fault.
[26:21]Many people who get cancer, I mean, what did they do?
[26:23]Some may be smoking leave smoking to the side.
[26:26]But a lot of people that receive that get diagnosed by cancer.
[26:31]They let such a healthy lifestyle.
[26:37]They didn't do anything wrong.
[26:40]Sometimes it is the crime or the mistake of one individual and
[26:43]then a whole population suffers of sickness.
[26:46]So it's not my fault.
[26:48]It's not like I could have prevented it like CO.
[26:51]How did co start?
[26:52]First they said it was bats.
[26:56]Remember came from bats.
[26:56]Then they said it was that weird animal, the pengalin, not penguin,
[27:00]panggalan.
[27:01]And then I I read something about raccoons.
[27:04]And then all these theories started to come out.
[27:09]Then some believed that it was made in a lab.
[27:10]Wherever it came from, the point is most of the people in
[27:14]the world, they had nothing to do with it.
[27:17]It wasn't their fault that this pandemic spread and there was no
[27:20]way to hide or run away from it.
[27:22]Even if you went and lived in a cave in the middle
[27:26]of nowhere, CO followed you and it managed to get you sick.
[27:29]So in those situations, I can't say, well, you know what, it's
[27:35]my fault.
[27:34]No, these incidents, brothers and sisters, are what the scholars call and
[27:43]the ims of They are a test from Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
[27:48]This is the sickness that Allah manufactured and want there to be
[27:54]in the dunya.
[27:56]Not the other sicknesses that are inflicted by us.
[28:00]Not all the heart attacks and the diabetes that you see today.
[28:04]That's all our fault.
[28:07]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wanted some level of sickness in this dunya.
[28:12]But that's only when it's not our fault.
[28:15]A pandemic, you know, they used to have the plague every couple
[28:19]of years.
[28:21]It would spread and it would kill half of the people in
[28:24]the town, 1/4, one/3.
[28:28]And they wouldn't even know how it started.
[28:29]So this brothers and sisters, second type of sickness that we cannot
[28:34]eliminate.
[28:34]We can try our best, we cannot eliminate.
[28:38]This is a test from Allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala.
[28:42]Many individuals when they hear about these types of sicknesses I am
[28:50]diagnosed with cancer and there's no explanation clear explanation or all these
[28:56]other difficult sicknesses and diseases MS and um maybe sometimes even diabetes
[29:01]and it's not my fault.
[29:02]Sometimes it's genetics it just runs in your family.
[29:06]Many people assume right away that this is punishment from Allah subhanahu
[29:11]wa ta'ala.
[29:12]Allah subhana wa ta'ala is angry at me and thus Allah is
[29:19]punishing me and thus we get very disappointed.
[29:22]One of the first questions that come to our mind is what
[29:27]did I do wrong?
[29:27]I believe in Allah.
[29:30]I do the wajabat.
[29:30]I'm a good person.
[29:32]I'm kind.
[29:33]I'm why does Allah subhana t afflict me with cancer?
[29:35]Now what's the problem with that?
[29:37]We see it as a punishment.
[29:41]Well, is it punishment?
[29:42]Sometimes for some people, yes, Allah may punish them through sickness, but
[29:48]the majority of cases and specifically for the believers, it is not
[29:54]punishment.
[29:55]It's exactly the opposite.
[29:56]The prophet says it is from Allah's mercy.
[30:00]That was the hadith that I mentioned.
[30:05]If the believer knew what Allah has in store for him, the
[30:11]benefits of being sick, you would never ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala
[30:19]to cure you.
[30:19]Now, one might say, "What are these benefits?
[30:22]How am I benefiting from sickness?" There are so many benefits, brothers
[30:28]and sisters, that we see very evident in sickness and disease.
[30:35]And I'm speaking mostly morally and spiritually.
[30:39]Number one, one of the benefits of sickness is that for a
[30:43]lot of people, and I'm talking about the difficult sicknesses, not just
[30:47]why I got a flu or a cold or something like that.
[30:51]If I go through a difficult illness, disease and sickness and I
[30:56]make it alive, I don't die, I don't end up dying or
[31:01]it's a terminal sickness that I have to live with.
[31:05]One of the benefits, brothers and sisters, is that most of the
[31:09]time or many times it is very effective at changing human beings
[31:19]for the better.
[31:20]You know how you have these activists, they become advocates for disease
[31:26]patients.
[31:27]Some of them are famous.
[31:28]They travel all across the world speaking about cancer, speaking about diabetes,
[31:35]whatever it may be.
[31:37]They try to spread awareness.
[31:40]They will fund raise for those patients.
[31:42]Almost every single one of them.
[31:44]Why are they doing that?
[31:45]Did they just wake up one day and they felt holy?
[31:48]They felt nice and compassionate towards those sick individuals.
[31:55]Almost every single one of them becomes an advocate because they themselves
[32:04]had to go through that pain and suffering.
[32:05]Now that they can feel it, now that they can feel what
[32:12]that individual feels from the suffering, they become empathetic.
[32:17]They become appreciative.
[32:17]If they want to help these individuals so many of the of
[32:23]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that are taken for granted we are reminded
[32:29]of them and we appreciate and value them once we are sitting
[32:32]in the hospital.
[32:34]That's why these individuals after they come out they come out a
[32:38]changed person.
[32:39]The small things in life that you and I take for granted
[32:41]and we never think about.
[32:42]Spend a week in the hospital and you'll start to value them
[32:48]so much.
[32:49]the basic things in life that you never even think about just
[32:52]going out and having coffee with friends if your disease and your
[32:55]sickness does not allow you from doing that.
[33:00]I remember once I went to one of the states here in
[33:04]the US and there was a brother who they shared a story
[33:11]with me who had cancer.
[33:11]He had a rare form of blood cancer leukemia.
[33:16]And uh they would tell me to do dua for him all
[33:20]the time.
[33:21]I remember.
[33:22]So I didn't meet him until the end.
[33:25]I was there for about 10 days.
[33:26]And towards the end of my trip, I went and met him.
[33:31]Before I met him, I saw his pictures.
[33:35]So when I went and met him, I was, you know, I
[33:38]had an image in my head.
[33:42]But the person I saw was very, very different, way skinnier.
[33:46]half the size.
[33:48]His face was so pale.
[33:52]He had absolutely no hair.
[33:53]A son, a complete different person.
[33:55]And it's as if he had aged like 10, 15 years.
[33:59]And probably it was 6 months apart from the image from the
[34:01]picture that I saw.
[34:03]And when I saw him in his house, I saw him with
[34:09]his father.
[34:11]I sat down and he started to explain to me how it
[34:14]started.
[34:14]how he was diagnosed.
[34:17]He said it was the month of Ramadan one year like now.
[34:19]We went and played basketball with some friends.
[34:22]He says, "All of a sudden, I got this very, very, very
[34:27]bad back pain.
[34:28]It was so bad that they had to take me to the
[34:32]emergency room.
[34:34]The doctors without doing much tests, they just assumed it was just
[34:37]some spasm or something normal.
[34:39]They just gave me painkillers, rest, and they let me go.
[34:44]They discharged me.
[34:44]He's like the next day once again playing basketball it's even worse
[34:51]I collapse they take me again now the doctors are worried so
[34:54]they do some tests the doctor he comes to me and he
[34:56]asked me he was I think about maybe in his close to
[35:02]30 years old he asked me what are you doing right now
[35:08]in life he said I told him I just finished my pharmacy
[35:10]school and I'm working on opening u my my own pharmacy and
[35:16]I'm very excited and and all this and that and I just
[35:20]got married last year.
[35:20]So, alhamdulillah the beginning of his of his beautiful years.
[35:26]He's like, "The doctor told me, sorry, brother.
[35:28]Sorry, sir, but you're going to have to leave your career, possibly
[35:34]even leave your family because you're in for a very difficult journey."
[35:37]And this is when he broke the news.
[35:40]He told me you have not only cancer but you have the
[35:44]the rarest type of cancer which is not really treatable and you
[35:49]have to prepare yourself for a neverending the guy was very pessimistic
[35:55]the doctor a neverending episode and journey of constant back and forth
[36:01]to the hospital he's like my life shattered right in front of
[36:06]me I was completely destroyed I was in denial as he says
[36:12]you know denial is a river you know they say in in
[36:14]Egypt right that's the level of denial that you that you get
[36:21]into so he says alhamdulillah when I went home now he says
[36:25]alhamdulillah my mother and father were with me and they're like we
[36:28]will be with you every single step I went next week for
[36:34]the first session of chemotherapy and they were with me the whole
[36:41]time and it was painful and every session was more painful than
[36:44]the other.
[36:45]He said I started to gain weight in the beginning because of
[36:48]some medication and then I started to lose weight, lose the hair.
[36:53]I did not even want to wake up in the morning.
[36:54]I couldn't leave my bed.
[36:58]I hated my life.
[36:58]I hated everything.
[36:59]Imagine you wake up and the only thing that's on your schedule
[37:04]is chemotherapy.
[37:04]It's a terrible life.
[37:06]Brothers and sisters, ask Allahel to protect you from that.
[37:08]But at the same time, look at the other side, the bright
[37:12]side.
[37:13]He's like, I went maybe after 10 or whatever sessions I was
[37:20]in the hospital waiting to get my treatment.
[37:23]I see another older lady.
[37:26]Now my mother and father are with me.
[37:28]And this lady, older lady is also getting treated chemo.
[37:30]And she starts to talk to me and my mother and she's
[37:36]smiling and laughing in such high spirits.
[37:38]And I start to talk to her and I'm not really in
[37:42]the mood.
[37:42]I realize this lady is all alone.
[37:47]She lives like 40 minutes away.
[37:49]She has to take the bus to get here every single time.
[37:52]And it's not one bus.
[37:54]She has to change the bus like two or three times.
[37:56]And I have my parents driving me like a king every single
[38:00]time.
[38:01]Nobody calls to check on her.
[38:03]Nobody asks about her.
[38:06]Yet she's in such high spirits.
[38:07]He says, "I couldn't believe how she was able to keep and
[38:13]maintain that type of attitude and personality.
[38:16]Look at the look at life in that way." And he's like,
[38:22]"When I left, I was so inspired to become like that lady
[38:29]that every single time I would wake up, my excitement and joy
[38:34]was to go to the hospital from that day on so that
[38:39]I can spend time with her and learn from her." He says,
[38:42]"I learned so much.
[38:44]I learned how to be an empathetic person, a compassionate person.
[38:47]I learned patience from her.
[38:49]I learned how to appreciate everything in life just by being with
[38:55]her a couple of times.
[38:55]He got cured, alhamdulillah.
[39:00]And just like I said, he's also working with advocates and and
[39:03]uh cancer research and whatnot.
[39:05]So he says the greatest blessing in my life was that cancer.
[39:08]Yes, it was torture.
[39:11]It was pain.
[39:12]It was difficult.
[39:11]It was very very difficult even on my mental health.
[39:16]But he's like I'm a completely new person.
[39:18]The old me and the new me nothing alike.
[39:23]Sometimes brothers and sisters it takes some very difficult things in life
[39:31]for the best for the best versions of ourselves to appear.
[39:34]And Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tries the easy way but it just
[39:43]doesn't work until a sickness forces me to become that compassionate kind
[39:49]humble individual.
[39:50]Now there's a hadith from where he says in the he said
[40:02]imagine a world where there was no pain and no suffering and
[40:07]no sickness.
[40:11]What would prevent him from committing sins?
[40:14]And the point that the Imam makes is there are so many
[40:23]people that are drowning in a life of sin far away from
[40:26]Allah subhana wa ta'ala and the only thing that was able to
[40:32]save them was an illness was a sickness was a disease because
[40:37]sicknesses brothers and sisters they humble us the strong mighty human being
[40:45]loud human being.
[40:46]He loses all his power, loses his voice, loses his strength and
[40:54]he is humbled.
[40:54]He becomes literally down to earth and it teaches them a lesson.
[41:00]We start to change.
[41:02]And I've heard many brothers, many individuals who've told me how their
[41:06]sickness may not have been very severe, how it completely changed them.
[41:11]There was a brother who said once I had a very bad
[41:12]habit, haram habit.
[41:15]I couldn't stop until once I got diagnosed with a very bad
[41:19]disease.
[41:20]He said that disease was my was my wakeup call.
[41:25]It completely transformed me.
[41:26]I never missed a salah ever again.
[41:30]I would never backbite.
[41:33]I would never listen to music.
[41:34]I would never do this and that.
[41:36]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wants to rescue me from that life of
[41:39]sin.
[41:40]He sees me as miserable.
[41:43]But everything he does just doesn't work.
[41:47]I don't listen.
[41:45]We read in dua.
[41:48]He asks me, he calls me, "But I'm busy.
[41:51]I'm not listening." Okay.
[41:54]Allah says, "You know what?
[41:56]Let me send him some gifts.
[41:58]Gifts that we see as real gifts, money, wealth, let me send
[42:01]him family, kids.
[42:03]What do we end up doing?
[42:04]Send even more." Allah subhana wa ta'ala sometimes he sees that the
[42:11]only way that he can bring me to him is through that
[42:12]sickness through that virus through that disease.
[42:16]So is it because he loves me?
[42:18]Is that punishment?
[42:19]He is it because he hates me?
[42:20]No.
[42:21]He loves me.
[42:22]He wants me to turn to him but he just can't grab
[42:26]my attention unless it happens the hard way.
[42:31]Then the imam says, Some of us, brothers and sisters, we would
[42:50]never turn to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[42:52]If it wasn't for pain, if it wasn't for our bad days
[42:56]because when we're having our good days and we're busy, we don't
[42:59]even have time to think about Allah subhana wa ta'ala and thank
[43:01]him.
[43:02]When do we get some time?
[43:06]when I have to take a sick day, a sick week, a
[43:08]sick month, and I'm bored and I don't know what to do.
[43:13]This is finally when I have some time to think about Allah
[43:16]subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[43:19]So, this is one of the benefits, brothers and sisters, of sickness
[43:25]in general.
[43:23]It's sometimes Allah's way to tell you, I'm waiting for you.
[43:29]Turn to me.
[43:28]You're too busy in life.
[43:31]There's nothing else I can do but to afflict you with this
[43:33]sickness so that you turn to me.
[43:35]But this is much better for you.
[43:38]If Allah didn't love me, he would just leave me in my
[43:42]in my sleep in the but it's because he loves me.
[43:48]He does that to me.
[43:49]Another benefit of sickness, brothers and sisters, is that with sickness comes
[43:59]forgiveness.
[43:58]Every time we become sick in this world, in this life, Allah
[44:04]subhanahu wa ta'ala erases some of our sins.
[44:08]There's a hadith from he says he says the hours that you
[44:28]endure pain either because of an injury, either because of a sickness
[44:32]or what not.
[44:36]They have a benefit.
[44:39]That pain has a benefit.
[44:39]What is it?
[44:41]It eliminates and erases those hours that you spent sinning.
[44:46]Every single time that we become sick, it clears one month, two
[44:56]months, three months, whatever of your sins.
[44:59]Don't you realize some sicknesses are reoccurring?
[45:02]They have seasons.
[45:04]Why is that?
[45:06]It's not just a coincidence.
[45:08]It's because we human beings always need an opportunity and something to
[45:17]purify us, something to remove our sins.
[45:20]So Allah subhana wa ta'ala is like, you know what, every year
[45:24]there's the cold season.
[45:24]That's a good time for me to purify my or else he's
[45:31]not going to repent.
[45:30]And even if he repents, his sins are much faster than the
[45:37]pace that he can repent.
[45:39]How many times do we repent to Allahhana?
[45:41]We know repentance is easy and you just have but do we
[45:46]do that?
[45:45]Take away.
[45:46]How many times during the year do we really sit down, think
[45:51]about our sins, shed a tear, and cry?
[45:53]Takes you 10 minutes.
[45:53]But how many times do we do that?
[45:55]We're lucky if we do that five times a year.
[45:58]Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows that we're not going to do it
[46:00]much.
[46:01]We're too busy.
[46:03]So he's like, you know what?
[46:04]Sickness here, an injury there, and that will keep you clean, fresh.
[46:10]The prophet says he says some people the prophet says that their
[46:25]sickness will eventually eliminate all their sins.
[46:29]They'll become sinless pure because of how much they got sick.
[46:35]These people are the ones that on the day of judgment will
[46:41]be envied.
[46:39]Envied.
[46:40]Yes.
[46:40]Now in the dunya we feel bad for that person who we
[46:46]call him disabled who has this terminal illness.
[46:47]But on the day of judgments that person will be envied because
[46:51]we will see it was worth it.
[46:53]Remember how I said we human beings if we realize what we're
[46:55]getting from the pain then we become much more patient and excited.
[47:02]We realize that it was worth it.
[47:04]I don't know why I went and I got the flu shot.
[47:05]I was such an idiot.
[47:08]Allah was sending the flu for free and I went and I
[47:09]blocked it and now I have all these sins to pay for
[47:13]it.
[47:14]I'm not saying don't get the flu shot.
[47:15]No.
[47:16]Try your best to stay healthy.
[47:17]Go to the doctors.
[47:21]But realize that when you do get sick, there's a purpose behind
[47:24]that.
[47:25]That it's not an accident.
[47:26]It's not because Allah subhana wa ta doesn't love me.
[47:30]It's not because I did something wrong.
[47:33]In fact, I'm doing everything right.
[47:34]If you don't get sick, this is when you have to question.
[47:37]Does Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala not want my sins to be forgiven?
[47:43]That's why he has given me such good health.
[47:47]This is how used to see sickness, pain, and suffering of the
[47:53]dunya.
[47:54]Change your perspective brothers and sisters.
[47:56]It will be so much easier for you to cope with.
[47:58]Tomorrow, inshallah, I will continue and speak about some more benefits of
[48:03]sickness.
[48:04]And one of the most beautiful of those benefits is what we
[48:09]titled the lecture, but we'll get to it tomorrow inshallah.
[48:12]The sick days that Allah gives you.
[48:15]What do we mean by that?
[48:16]How are they unlimited?
[48:18]Inshallah, we will go over that tomorrow night.
[48:21]We ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala to bless us to accept our
[48:26]to grant us the best to grant us whatever he deems appropriate
[48:32]whether it is sickness whether it is a health of course we
[48:37]all prefer health but if Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala sees that it
[48:43]is better for us to go through some trials and tribulations through
[48:47]sickness then we fully and wholeheartedly accept and embrace whatever Whatever comes
[48:52]from Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala may Allahel accept your fasting all your
[48:58]hasten the reappearance of our and let us end by reciting fat
[49:04]for all the believers that have passed away after a loud salawat
[49:07]for Muhammad and al Muhammad Mad.
