[0:58]the tawfiq to seize this opportunity Insha'Allah this evening will be continuing
[1:05]his series on the topic of fortifying our families the topic for
[1:12]tonight will be the benefits of trial and tribulation can I ask
[1:16]you all to join me in welcoming with the loudest recitation of
[1:21]three Muhammad [Music] foreign foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music]
[3:29][Music] [Music] foreign [Music] Muhammad [Music] respected Elders brothers and sisters the
[4:19]theme of this lecture series was fortifying our families and we spoke
[4:23]about a number of issues from gender roles to what it means
[4:31]to be a high value man what it means to be a
[4:32]high value woman and the different external and internal challenges that the
[4:41]family unit faces now among the things that we experience as families
[4:47]is trial and tribulation families sometimes experience members that go through severe
[5:01]illnesses sometimes we lose loved ones sometimes we have family members who
[5:07]are affected by natural disasters and therefore tonight I wanted to speak
[5:10]a little bit about the benefits of trials and tribulations but before
[5:19]we do that I think it would be beneficial to take a
[5:25]step back and reflect on the purpose of life itself before we
[5:33]can understand why is it that Allah created us in a world
[5:40]where we all inevitably suffer because many people often ask you know
[5:45]it becomes really a crisis of faith for some people on the
[5:52]one hand we are told that Allah is immensely merciful he introduces
[6:03]himself to his servants as we always reminded of the mercy of
[6:11]Allah but the problem is that for many people the world doesn't
[6:21]feel like a place that reflects that Mercy in fact when you
[6:25]look at what transpires in the world today the world actually feels
[6:29]like a very dark and cruel place and many people when they
[6:36]reflect on The Human Condition even people of faith as they see
[6:43]these trials and tribulations unfold in their lives and when they look
[6:48]at the atrocities that occur around the world there are many people
[6:51]that actually end up leaving Faith itself they say that I don't
[6:57]believe that there exists a merciful Lord because I look around and
[7:00]I don't see Mercy I just see Bloodshed corruption I see evil
[7:07]I see suffering so how do we reconcile the existence of a
[7:16]merciful creator with the misery that many human beings experience no I
[7:22]don't want to speak about establishing the existence of God I want
[7:27]to assume that God exists if you want to explore the various
[7:32]proofs of the existence of God you can look at the ontological
[7:34]argument you can look at the teleological argument the cosmological argument that's
[7:40]for another discussion but assuming that you are a person who acknowledges
[7:45]a Supreme Being the question that arises is if God is needless
[7:55]why did he create us what's the point of our existence now
[8:00]interestingly when you look at the Quran the Quran offers three responses
[8:06]to this question and at first glance the answers seem to be
[8:12]contradictory they don't seem to really go together so on one level
[8:18]you look at the Quran and you look at Surat al-mulk verse
[8:21]number two Allah says that Allah created death and he created life
[8:34]so that he may test you to see who is the best
[8:42]indeeds according to this verse created us to test us and that's
[8:48]usually the answer that people of Faith give that God created us
[8:55]to test us but God Allah knows he already knows what we
[9:02]are going to be so why doesn't he just put us in
[9:07]our respectively why does he just put us in Paradise if he
[9:09]already knows what the outcome is going to be why do we
[9:12]have to go through Dunya if he's so merciful and loving why
[9:16]didn't he create us in Jannah why can't we just open up
[9:23]our eyes and find ourselves in that Blissful environment known as Jannah
[9:27]so we'll get to all of this so number one first Ayah
[9:33]tells us number two tells us we were created to be tried
[9:40]and tested that's number one the second answer that the Quran gives
[9:44]is 56.
[9:49]Surah 51 verse 56 and this is also another answer that we
[9:55]often give Allah liabudon and I did not create Jinn and man
[10:09]except that they worship me now does Allah need our worship he
[10:14]doesn't need our worship he's needless in fact if you look at
[10:20]the Quran when when Musa Salaam tries to educate many Israel about
[10:26]the nature of the Divine what does he say Ibrahim Ayah number
[10:31]eight Musa says to his people ah foreign of Israel if you
[10:46]reject God and everyone on Earth rejects him God is self-sufficient and
[10:52]worthy of all praise it doesn't affect him so the Quran says
[10:58]you were created to be tested but Allah already knows what the
[11:02]outcome of this test is going to be Allah says that I
[11:07]created you to worship me but he doesn't need our worship the
[11:12]third Ayah is what 1 19.
[11:19]in verse 118 Allah says basically that I could have made you
[11:25]all one nation I could have guided all of you I could
[11:28]have all I could have made you United upon the straight path
[11:31]but of course some people they go astray and then what does
[11:37]Allah say in Ayah number 119 is foreign that he created us
[11:53]out of his Mercy so there are three answers here to be
[12:01]tested to worship Allah and for us to experience his Mercy now
[12:07]how do you tie this all together the answer is one of
[12:16]them is the ultimate purpose and the other two is the means
[12:23]through which you achieve that purpose the primary answer is what Allah
[12:31]created you purely out of his Mercy because he could and he
[12:35]wanted you to benefit from him to experience existence to Experience Unlimited
[12:43]Grace and love he created you so he can show your mercy
[12:52]now when you look at this Ayah the way in which see
[12:56]we have to understand something about Allah's Mercy Allah's Mercy is of
[13:02]different levels we have a Hadith from the prophet salallahu alaihi when
[13:13]we speak about the mercy of God the prophet sallallahu alaihi and
[13:19]Hadith that's attributed to him he says Allah has 100 parts of
[13:24]his there are 100 parts of God's mercy again this is an
[13:27]example the prophet is giving just to demonstrate what we experience compared
[13:33]to his actual Mercy the prophet says with God is 100 parts
[13:42]of Mercy and he sent down one part of the 100.
[13:48]one percent to this earth and through that one percent you see
[13:57]the love and the compassion and the affection among human beings the
[14:04]the love that a mother has for her child all of the
[14:07]blessings that we experience in this life is one part of 100
[14:12]parts of God's mercy and the prophet says and the 99 are
[14:17]deferred for the hereafter now this means what the mercy of Allah
[14:27]that high level of Mercy is something that we have to qualify
[14:36]for see the mercy that we experience here is that General free
[14:41]Mercy but Jenna represents the special mercy of Allah and that Mercy
[14:50]is something that has to be earned it's something that you have
[14:56]to qualify for I'll give you a very simple example imagine you're
[15:01]walking down the street and let's say that you are a very
[15:05]kind merciful person and you come across a young person who's homeless
[15:12]he's recovering from drug addiction he's homeless and you think to yourself
[15:20]that I want to show Mercy to this person this homeless man
[15:25]now would it be merciful of you to say you know what
[15:29]I'm going to give him the highest paying salary drop highest paying
[15:35]salary I'm going to get him the best job I'm going to
[15:39]show him so much Mercy that I'm actually going to make him
[15:44]the medical director of the biggest Hospital in the city or I'm
[15:49]going to make him the CEO of the biggest tech company in
[15:55]the world I want to give him maximum salary possible I ask
[16:01]you is that wise is that wise if you make this guy
[16:06]who doesn't have any education who's homeless who has nothing no training
[16:13]and you put him as the head the director of a hospital
[16:18]what would happen people will die in the hospital they'll lose their
[16:21]lives why because he's not qualified to be in that position he's
[16:28]not qualified to receive that salary so if you want to show
[16:33]this individual mercy and if you want him to get to that
[16:35]level what do you do he has to go through education he
[16:38]has to be trained he has to be mentored he has to
[16:43]go to school he has to endure some hardship and to be
[16:46]able to qualify for that high paying position Jenna is analogous to
[16:57]that Jannah represents the highest level of Divine Mercy if Allah takes
[17:02]us to Jannah as we are we will ruin Jannah we will
[17:11]pollute Jannah because Jannah is the place of purity we will contaminate
[17:19]Paradise so what does Allah do because yes Allah is merciful but
[17:23]Allah is also wise if I'm sitting on the member now and
[17:27]let's say someone enters the medulus and let's say this person none
[17:32]of you know who it is a stranger an unknown individual enters
[17:36]this Gathering imagine a person enters and I stop my medulus and
[17:42]I come down and I say salaam to this individual and I
[17:46]kiss their hand and I kiss their forehead and I show them
[17:51]so much respect and I say please come and sit here you're
[17:54]going to be wondering what who's this guy who's that man why
[17:59]did the Sheikh show him so much reverence and respect what has
[18:03]he done if you come to me and you say why did
[18:06]you show him so much honor and respect and reverence if I
[18:12]say to you no reason would you say that I'm Wiser I'm
[18:17]foolish what is it you're just showing all this respect for nothing
[18:21]Allah if he puts you and I in Jannah arbitrarily it would
[18:32]negate his wisdom meaning Allah created a system where he wants you
[18:38]just to do something to give him an excuse so he can
[18:43]honor you in that way so when you look at these ions
[18:48]when Allah says you were I created you to test you to
[18:56]enter Jannah you have to develop Heavenly qualities if you want to
[19:01]go to heaven you have to develop Heavenly qualities Heavenly qualities are
[19:05]like what patience love forgiveness courage how are you supposed to develop
[19:16]courage if you never experience fear Allah he puts us through difficulties
[19:22]in this life so we can develop those heavenly qualities and so
[19:30]we can be compatible with that environment worship also does that you
[19:39]can achieve those Noble qualities those heavenly qualities through ibada you stand
[19:44]before God you worship Allah and you develop the Heavenly quality of
[19:48]humility humbleness but some people they don't develop humbleness through ibadan Allah
[19:56]has to break their ego through trial and tribulation there are some
[20:03]people inculcates it develops those heavenly qualities but Allah knows us he
[20:11]knows that we need the combination of ibada and Bala to develop
[20:18]we need both of those qualities we need both of those Avenues
[20:23]and hence Allah says what he says I created you to test
[20:31]you and I created you to worship and God tests us through
[20:34]trials and tribulations and he tests us through Nema all of these
[20:40]things is for what purpose so we can taste that infinite mercy
[20:47]of Allah this is what life is all about everything that we
[20:52]are enduring is designed for us to enter into that world and
[20:59]qualify for the mercy of God now some people exit this world
[21:01]and they're still not qualified for Jannah their souls are still not
[21:06]mature their souls are still not elevated so what happens they have
[21:10]to endure some difficulties in the grave they have to endure some
[21:14]difficulties in barzak and if you're still not purified you have to
[21:19]endure some difficulties and there are some people who still are not
[21:22]purified they have to go to jahannam for a period until they
[21:27]are released and there are people who are so wicked and evil
[21:30]that they refuse to purify themselves they refuse they're stubborn they don't
[21:37]want to purify themselves and this is he says there's only one
[21:44]group that will remain in Hell forever the majority of humanity eventually
[21:49]they will be cleansed of their vices of their evil traits but
[21:57]there's one group the only one who will stay in jahannam is
[22:06]the one who refuses to purify himself and enter Jannah so does
[22:11]Allah put people in jahannam or is it because they are stubborn
[22:16]and they don't want to undergo purification now with that said when
[22:22]you have this understanding you realize that everything that Allah creates is
[22:32]perfect the Dunya is perfect for the purpose that it is meant
[22:36]to serve the Dunya is designed to develop us to allow us
[22:44]to mature to struggle to purify ourselves and Jannah is also the
[22:52]perfect place but it's perfect for the purpose it serves and that
[22:56]is to reward the efforts of his servants it's all Perfection the
[23:03]Dunya is perfect and Jannah is perfect and everything that Allah creates
[23:09]is perfect because it serves the purpose that he intended now with
[23:16]that said why does Allah what are some of the benefits of
[23:23]the trials and tribulations that we Face I'll list a few of
[23:28]them based on what we find in the Quran and in the
[23:30]Hadith of Muhammad the first benefit of trial and tribulation and especially
[23:47]this applies to when we are dealing with natural disasters the first
[23:55]benefit that is that trials and tribulations they demonstrate the glory and
[24:00]the power of Allah you know the the ground that we walk
[24:09]on we take it for granted that it's stable and sometimes we
[24:14]forget that the ground is only stable because of his permission and
[24:19]therefore when the ground shakes when there's an earthquake it reminds us
[24:24]that indeed he is the all-powerful when the mountains move when there's
[24:34]a hurricane whether when there's a tsunami it's a reminder that no
[24:39]the United States of America is not a superpower Allah is the
[24:43]superpower sometimes we forget that so Allah through trial and tribulation he
[24:52]allows us to know him and sometimes we know him when we
[25:00]are also struck with those calamities it humbles us we recognize the
[25:04]power of Allah the pagans who arrogantly arrogantly rejected the message of
[25:18]the Prophet Allah says Allah says if we wish we would make
[25:26]the Earth swallow all of them Allah says if if I willed
[25:34]I can make the sky collapse upon them foreign in this there
[25:45]is a sign for every servant who seeks nearness to his creator
[25:52]you understand that there is a higher power yes there are natural
[25:56]laws that govern the universe but there is a power above those
[25:59]natural laws where did those natural laws come from they are preset
[26:05]and designed by him so the first benefit of trial and tribulation
[26:08]is that it helps us with Allah it allows us to recognize
[26:15]the glory and the might of Allah number two trials and tribulations
[26:18]also allow us to learn humility and humbleness there's a narration that's
[26:27]attributed to the prophet [Music] the prophet he says the prophet he
[26:45]says if there if it were not for three things that happen
[26:49]to the human being nothing would have lowered his head in humility
[26:54]meaning if it wasn't for these three things almost every human being
[27:01]on Earth would be arrogant we would have a whole world of
[27:08]frowns what are those three things the prophet says the prophet says
[27:21]sickness poverty and death these three things they are the reason why
[27:29]the human being is humbled we are humbled through these things if
[27:32]it wasn't for three these three if we never got sick and
[27:35]we were rich and wealthy and we there was no death how
[27:39]many of us would be humble and then the prophet says what
[27:43]and all of these conditions are there and yet the people are
[27:49]still arrogant subhanallah look at the human being the human being endures
[27:54]sickness poverty and death everyone is going to die yet you see
[27:58]there are many people who are arrogant they have this incredible ego
[28:06]so the second benefit of trial and tribulation is that it breaks
[28:13]the ego it humbles the human being number three through trial and
[28:19]tribulation we learn sincerity have you ever been on an airplane when
[28:25]there's severe turbulence believe me even if you're not a religious person
[28:28]the most sincere Dua you're going to make is when you're on
[28:33]that airplane especially when it's intense turbulence in fact Allah he mentions
[28:39]verse 65 he says Allah says and when they get on the
[28:46]ships and there's danger a storm comes and they really feel like
[28:56]their life is on the line now this is the nature of
[28:57]people right there's no such thing as an atheist in these crisis
[29:06]moments the Ayah says in what did it take for this insan
[29:16]to turn to Allah with sincerity it took a took a trial
[29:19]it took danger it took a crisis situation and then what does
[29:26]Allah say look at how unfortunate the human being is Allah says
[29:33]allows them to reach land what happens they attribute their Deliverance oh
[29:46]alhamdulillah we had a good captain or alhamdulillah there was this lifeguard
[29:50]who came and saved us they look at the chain of cause
[29:56]and effect but they don't see the Divine hand behind the cause
[30:00]and effect Allah says they forget about me when they were in
[30:04]the crisis situation they were turning to me when they are rescued
[30:07]they give credit to other than me so trial and tribulation allows
[30:17]us to taste the sweetness of ekhlas Allah makes us go through
[30:22]it just to give us a taste this is what you can
[30:23]have you're capable of connecting with your creator number four trial and
[30:36]tribulation often compels us to re-evaluate Our Lives I've met many people
[30:42]it took a near-death experience a car accident for them to come
[30:50]back to Allah they were living lives of heedlessness hedonistic lives their
[30:55]only concern was the Dunya and then they get into that severe
[31:00]car accident God forbid they develop cancer something happens to them they
[31:05]lose a loved one and then what happens it makes them pause
[31:10]they start to think about the trajectory of their lives and this
[31:14]is where Allah says when a human being is Afflicted with a
[31:26]misfortune he turns to his God and he seeks nearness to him
[31:33]sometimes that hardship if the hardship brought you closer to Allah that
[31:40]hardship was the greatest blessing that Allah gave to you in your
[31:47]life sometimes Allah puts us through these difficulties to wake us up
[31:50]so we can come back to him in fact in another Ayah
[31:54]in Surah verse 21 Allah says sometimes Allah punishes you for your
[32:07]sins here he gives you the Lesser punishment here instead of punishing
[32:15]you in the Hereafter why so that perhaps you may return to
[32:19]him because he wants you to come back and some people they
[32:25]have to go through difficulties to wake up to wake up from
[32:27]their spiritual comatose to wake up from their Slumber number five sometimes
[32:36]afflictions and misfortunes come upon us at the hands of other people
[32:42]right it's not just natural disasters it's not just sickness sometimes the
[32:48]greatest trials and tribulations come to us from the voluntary behavior of
[32:56]people someone hurts you someone abuses you someone insults you someone disrupts
[33:02]your life in some way the fifth benefit of trial and tribulation
[33:09]is that it is an opportunity for you to develop the Divine
[33:15]quality of forgiveness we said that to go to Jannah you have
[33:22]to develop Heavenly qualities and one of those heavenly qualities is what
[33:30]forgiveness not to be a person who holds grudges so now Allah
[33:34]puts you in a situation someone hurts you now you can respond
[33:40]to them in a way that will make your soul more compatible
[33:44]with Jannah or you can respond in a way that makes your
[33:49]soul more compatible with Jannah Allah is giving you an opportunity to
[33:52]make a choice this is an opportunity for you to forgive to
[33:59]do something that is going to develop your soul in the right
[34:05]direction and this is where we have a narration from Imam foreign
[34:27]conduct yourself in a Divine Way Allah does he hold the grudge
[34:34]against his servants or does he pardon he forgives once there's no
[34:38]limit to how forgiving he is so you have now Allah is
[34:44]you have an opportunity to be a mirror that reflects that quality
[34:50]of Allah this is number five number six the Dunya and its
[35:00]trials allow us to develop the noble quality of patience patience is
[35:06]also a Divine quality Allah is patient Allah is very patient with
[35:12]us we transgress and we defy him and he still gives us
[35:17]opportunity he's patient with us he says Allah loves the ones who
[35:35]are patients and Allah has a very interesting way that he deals
[35:40]with patient people Allah doesn't treat patient people the way that he
[35:44]treats unpatient inpatient people they have a special status with Allah for
[35:51]example Surah 39 Ayah number 10 Allah says some Scholars say that
[36:02]this Ayah is saying on the day of judgment Allah rewards the
[36:09]people who have patience without them having to go through hisab they
[36:15]come out of their graves and they might experience the preliminary stages
[36:22]of but they get to skip hisab and they go to Jannah
[36:27]patience is such a great and Noble quality that when Menin entered
[36:37]Jannah they greet them what do they say the Malaika said they
[36:42]say Salaam to the inhabitants apparent as they're entering what do they
[36:48]say the summary the quality that summarizes all of these Noble traits
[37:00]is patience your patience and then I'll share with you something that's
[37:08]incredible about how Allah deals with the people who have sub a
[37:12]very special relationship that Allah has with them 96.
[37:20]what is with you o perish but what is for me will
[37:28]last you want anything to endure link it to Allah in some
[37:32]way and then what does the ISA IAH Allah says and I
[37:45]will reward I will surely reward the patient for what they did
[37:52]based on the best of what they did do you know what
[37:55]this Ayah means this Ayah is bewildering Allah is basically saying that
[38:01]on the day of judgment when you come to me and it
[38:03]is time for me to reward you for your Salah you you
[38:07]offered many prayers in this life Allah says for example you offer
[38:14]ten thousand prayers I'm going to choose out of the ten thousand
[38:18]the Salah that had the most the prayer that was the best
[38:25]quality out of the ten thousand and I'm gonna reward the remaining
[38:30]9999 as if they are like the best one of them this
[38:36]is how Allah rewards those who have you see the mercy of
[38:41]Allah is unfathomable for us so trials and tribulations they allow us
[38:45]to develop number seven they remind us of the blessings of God
[38:52]and they instill within us the spirit of gratitude there was a
[39:00]multi-billionaire he was a Greek businessman he had everything multi-billionaire married to
[39:08]a beautiful woman business and he had everything except one Allah took
[39:13]away from him do you know what it is he took away
[39:19]the muscle that allows him to Blink he couldn't blink he did
[39:27]not have the muscle that allows him to Blink it was impaired
[39:30]it was damaged so he used to walk around with eye drops
[39:35]he would always have to lubricate his eyes now how many of
[39:43]us have even thought about the fact that there is a very
[39:48]sophisticated mechanism physiological process that allows us to Blink when do we
[39:54]realize it when we go through a trial and tribulation when your
[40:00]kidney fails and you go for a dialysis that's a trial and
[40:05]tribulation if you recover you realize wow this name that I had
[40:09]sometimes Allah puts us through difficulties so we understand the magnitude of
[40:17]the blessings that are upon us Allah if you were to count
[40:24]even one blessing of God you would not be able to count
[40:30]it you would not be able to Fathom the blessings of Allah
[40:34]number eight and this is the final one and then we'll speak
[40:37]about the tragedies that took place on A Night Like This number
[40:42]eight and finally through difficulties Allah elevates the status of Allah the
[40:54]more you endure because Allah is very generous the more you endure
[41:00]in terms of hardship the more Allah will compensate you and that's
[41:05]why when you look at the history of the prophets you see
[41:10]that the prophets actually suffered more than the average people it's not
[41:14]because Allah abandoned them it's not because Allah was punishing them it's
[41:19]because through those tragedies Allah wanted to elevate them I guarantee you
[41:24]even when you look at just ordinary people if you meet someone
[41:31]who is exceptional who is very gifted at something someone who really
[41:35]stands out from the crowd I can guarantee you that they've been
[41:40]through a lot of difficulties because you will never meet a great
[41:48]man who hasn't suffered you will never meet a great woman who
[41:51]had who has not gone through the fire of tribulation it's the
[41:56]only way I often tell youth you know because we live in
[41:59]a time where everybody wants shortcuts get rich quick we just want
[42:04]the easy route I always tell Youth and I tell myself before
[42:07]anybody when it comes to elevating yourself whether it's spiritually or in
[42:15]a worldly way there's no elevator you got to take the stairs
[42:20]you have to take the stairs it's difficult I'll end with this
[42:27]Hadith some people ask Sheikh there's so much suffering why doesn't Allah
[42:39]put it into the suffering it's because you and I see the
[42:46]pixel while Allah sees the picture if you've ever seen a pixel
[42:53]it's very blurry you can't really make it out we are judging
[42:59]Allah and his mercy and his Justice based on this little pixel
[43:03]and that's exactly what the story of Musa is about Musa is
[43:08]losing patience because he's seeing the pixel is operating based on the
[43:17]commands of the one who sees the picture it doesn't make sense
[43:23]to us because we only see through the little window of Dunya
[43:27]when earthquakes happen when tsunamis take place and we see the Carnage
[43:35]we see the Carnage on one side but we don't see the
[43:39]other side of the portal we don't see how they are being
[43:46]received on the other side and this is why Imam he says
[44:02]if a Believer only knew the reward that they will be given
[44:09]for their hardships every man will wish to be cut up into
[44:18]pieces in this life you will wish oh Allah send me back
[44:26]so I can suffer more because it's worth it in fact when
[44:29]the meaning enter into the mercy of God some narrations say they
[44:36]will be asked and these are people who suffered in Dunya did
[44:41]you ever suffer and they'll say no we never suffered because even
[44:48]if you suffer for a hundred years in Dunya the akhara is
[44:54]infinity and if you take any number and you divide it by
[44:57]Infinity what is it so no matter how much you suffer in
[45:06]life because there is eternity on the other side and Allah has
[45:10]given you every possible means to attain Eternal Bliss the suffering that
[45:17]you experience in this life I know it's difficult I'm not trying
[45:20]to minimize people's pain but when you get to the other side
[45:25]it's as though you never suffered we were all born in this
[45:30]life we came out of our mother's wombs and we were crying
[45:32]right it was a very traumatic experience for each and every one
[45:38]of us when we were born does anyone remember that it's as
[45:46]if it never happened so when we enter into the Hereafter the
[45:50]Dunya with all of its trials and tribulations when we look back
[45:56]at it it will simply feel like coming into this world and
[46:01]crying as a baby you know it's only going to hurt for
[46:07]a minute and you're not going to remember it this is Allah
[46:10]this is the mercy of Allah and they had this deep understanding
[46:19]of Allah they knew their creator if you read if you want
[46:25]to know Imam Hussain read that Dua because that Dua will allow
[46:33]you to understand how Hussein sees his Lord it's a relationship of
[46:42]incredible love and this is why Imam and Hussein he wanted one
[46:52]more night the Battle of karbala was supposed to take place on
[46:56]the ninth of Muharram Imam and Hussein in the days leading up
[47:03]there were still negotiations happening there was still hope that maybe we
[47:11]can avoid fighting the battle is inevitable he says go and ask
[47:22]them to delay the battle for one more night why do you
[47:31]want one more night what are you gonna do with one more
[47:33]night in this world he says [Music] so we can worship Allah
[47:47]one last night if you want to be hosseini you have to
[47:56]be among those who establish the prayer you are not husseini if
[48:03]you are disconnected from Allah you're not husseini if you think that
[48:07]Salah is not important Imam says I want just one more night
[48:17]because Allah knows my Lord knows how much I love to worship
[48:24]Him Allah knows how much I love this Salah Allah knows how
[48:36]much I enjoy speaking to him if you were in the camp
[48:42]of Imam and Hussein On A Night Like This the camp of
[48:47]Imam and Hussein sounded like a beehive you could hear the buzzing
[48:54]of the recitation of the Quran you can hear the buzzing The
[48:58]Whispers of Sada you go into the tent of Habib you go
[49:04]on the 10th of Muslim now you go into the tenth of
[49:09]Ali but he's reading Quran you go into the tent of Abbas
[49:12]he's in sujood this is this is the camp of Imam and
[49:16]Hussein but there's one person on a night like this who is
[49:27]worried who feels a bit anxious have you tested these men who
[49:39]are with you you know what happened to our father you know
[49:45]what happened to our brother al-muchitaba I am afraid that maybe they
[49:52]will abandon you are you sure about these men have you tested
[49:56]them According to some reports he says to her yeah these are
[50:15]my companions from a world that was even before this world these
[50:20]men were destined to be with me rasulullah zainab don't worry about
[50:30]these men rasulullah told me about the devotion of these men who
[50:33]are with me these are special people who are with me but
[50:37]do you want to see their firmness do you want your heart
[50:42]to be at ease just like ibrahimota do you want to see
[50:54]how steadfast they are do you want to see how loyal they
[50:59]are to me Jose NAB she says I would like to see
[51:03]that Imam Al Hussain stood in the middle of his camp and
[51:07]he called out yes my companions come to me where are my
[51:18]cousins where are my relatives all of them they come out when
[51:22]they hear the call of Imam Abdullah they all gather around Imam
[51:30]and Hussain Ali late at night he points at the army of
[51:43]um an ocean of flickering lights Imam he says to them this
[51:49]Army the thousands upon thousands that you see on the other side
[51:52]they only want one man if they get him they have no
[51:58]business with the rest they only want me so I am giving
[52:02]you all an opportunity now it's dark he says Imam says to
[52:15]one of his companions you see those two Hills just go and
[52:21]Escape run away go back to your family I give you permission
[52:25]to leave you can go and when Imam Hussain gave them that
[52:30]offer to leave one by one they stood up Muslim just says
[52:41]if I am killed and they burn my body and they bring
[52:48]me back to life and I'm burned and if they do this
[52:54]to me 70 times I will not leave you but it's only
[53:01]one death it's just one death another companion says my master if
[53:15]I ever leave I ask Allah to allow the beasts of the
[53:22]desert to eat me alive another says you want us to leave
[53:28]so we can live what value does life have after you were
[53:37]with you until the end Imam and Hussein he looks at all
[53:47]of them and he says if this is what you want to
[53:54]do if you want to stay with me the Imam says to
[53:58]them lift your heads up and look up at the sky the
[54:03]narration says he says the Imam unveiled he says look up at
[54:15]the sky and look at the places that are reserved for you
[54:21]in Paradise we're in this together now on the day of Ashura
[54:29]Imam Hussein saw 18 members of his family killed other than his
[54:42]companions 18 members of his family were killed you cannot find any
[54:47]of them anyone like them on the face of the Earth you
[54:51]think is replaceable you think is a replaceable person you think al-qasim
[54:58]can be replaced the most noble of the noble were slaughtered in
[55:02]front of Imam and Hussein okay after all of them were martyred
[55:10]including al-abas including al-qasim now Imam Hussain was really alone recognizes that
[55:22]now it's the time of Wada the time has come to fare
[55:29]well everybody but before he goes into the battlefield he goes to
[55:39]attempt and this is the tent of Imam sajjad his son who
[55:42]was Ill he could not participate in the battle Imam was so
[55:48]sick on the 10th of Muharram that he was going in and
[55:53]out of consciousness Imam sajad was not aware of what was transpiring
[56:00]on the battlefield Imam and Hussein he enters the tents and he
[56:07]sees that Imam zaidil abedin his son is awake he's conscious The
[56:14]Exchange greetings Imam sajjad he says in oh my father what have
[56:27]you accomplished today against these hypocrites who have come to you Imam
[56:31]Hussein he says these people shaytan has taken over their hearts my
[56:41]words are falling upon deaf ears Abbas Imam was unconscious when Abbas
[56:57]was killed he says what happened to my uncle Abbas Imam and
[57:05]Hussein he says your uncle Abbas was killed and his hands were
[57:16]severed by the bank of the Euphrates the narration says that when
[57:27]Imam sajjad heard that Abbas was martyred he fainted he regains consciousness
[57:34]and then he asks his father where is my where is my
[57:46]brother where is where is Habib where is everybody Imam and Hussein
[57:54]he says my dear son there is no one left except me
[57:59]and you there is no one left Imam he looks at his
[58:10]aunt zainab he says o my aunt zainab Allah oh my aunt
[58:16]zainab bring me my sword and my staff they say to him
[58:22]what are you going to do with why do you want your
[58:27]staff and your sword he says as for the staff I need
[58:35]it so it can help me stand and as for the sword
[58:40]I want my sword so I can fight alongside the grandson of
[58:43]rasulullah foreign because there's no goodness in this life after him keep
[58:56]him in the tent because if this one goes into the battlefield
[59:01]and is killed the progeny of Muhammad will be eradicated he calls
[59:09]upon all of the women and the children and he says to
[59:14]them that the Imam after me is the one that you have
[59:21]to obey after me is Imam obey him he is an Imam
[59:26]whose obedience is obligatory until he says to them this is the
[59:45]final farewell they Embrace Imam Hussain I can't imagine how do you
[59:53]farewell is getting ready to go into the battlefield he feels a
[60:03]small hand pulling on his Abaya sees that it is daughter she
[60:16]says to him is oh my father have you surrendered to death
[60:27]he says to her yes how can I not surrender to death
[60:38]when I have no supporter or helper the narrations say that as
[60:44]Imam Al Hussain is preparing to enter the battlefield the women they
[60:52]come to him and they say to him before you go we
[61:00]just have one last request for you we just want to ask
[61:04]you for one thing we don't want to burden you with anything
[61:06]beyond this they say come and farewell farewell your infant son she
[61:25]says all of the women are gathering around Imam and Hussein they
[61:31]say that this is unconscious now [Music] this is dying of thirst
[61:41]so before you go and fight get some water for him Imam
[61:47]Al Hussain he looks at the lips of this baby and the
[61:51]baby's lips were cracked Imam and Hussein he takes his son and
[62:03]because the Sun was shining and the Rays of the sun were
[62:09]intense he covered him he goes onto the battlefield he puts down
[62:20]his armor his swords to signal that he's not entering to fight
[62:24]he has a request from the enemies he raises the baby he
[62:32]raises the baby in his hands so that everyone can see and
[62:39]Imam Hussain he calls out to them imagine Imam Hussain is begging
[62:46]them now he says foreign if you believe he says to them
[62:59]if you believe that the men have committed a crime if you
[63:03]believe the adults are guilty what is the crime of this baby
[63:09]if you're afraid that I'm gonna take water I will put him
[63:14]on the sand just take him and give him water as Imam
[63:18]Al Hussain alaihissalam is pleading with them imagine this is the grandson
[63:23]of rasulullah begging Muslims begging their um for water not for himself
[63:31]for an unconscious baby some of the enemies they say to um
[63:40]let's give the baby water how is this baby going to hurt
[63:44]us why are we depriving this baby from water others would say
[63:47]no let him die with his father there is commotion there's dispute
[63:54]there's arguing back and forth in the army of Allah the narration
[64:02]say that um he looks at [Music] he says put an end
[64:34]to all of this arguing he takes out not any type of
[64:47]Arrow he takes out a three-pronged arrow this Arrow was designed to
[64:55]kill Warriors like Abbas this era was designed to kill Warriors like
[65:04]Ali unit the narrations saying that he takes out this three-pronged Arrow
[65:15]he points it at Imam Al who said he says to um
[65:26]where should I shoot the arrow he says do you see the
[65:35]Little Neck of the baby as Imam Al Hussain is holding up
[65:49]his son there is a gust of wind that blows the abbay
[65:53]of Imam [Music] that exposes the narration say The Poets they say
[66:05]that when shot the arrow and the arrow hits the neck of
[66:12]Aileen the Instinct the Instinct of the baby was to immediately hug
[66:19]its father a poet says that when the blood gushed from the
[66:31]neck of Ali yone there was a little bit of the blood
[66:38]that sprinkled on the lips the baby thought the blood was water
[66:49]when the arrow headed [Music] [Music] was slaughtered he fluttered like a
[67:10]little bird that was big slaughtered Salaam he Scoops up the blood
[67:22]from the neck of his infants he throws it up into the
[67:33]sky I swear by Allah that not a single drop of that
[67:39]blood came back to the Earth say what does he saying he
[67:43]says [Music] what makes this moment easier for me to Bear is
[67:53]that Allah is watching Allah is a witness to this he comes
[68:00]back to the camp he comes back to the women and the
[68:04]children the first one to come to Imam she says did you
[68:14]get water for him before before his mother Bob came she takes
[68:34]her to the side she says to the mother of there are
[68:41]many mothers who lost their children today I lost my sons and
[68:52]Muhammad other mothers lost their sons and you also lost your son
[69:02]but those were soldiers my baby was on its own yeah Hussein
[69:18]sorry
