[2:46]importantly and most importantly we bring you karbala Life Health life karbala
[2:52]live the bkr Hussain [Music] Allah and welcome back to our discussion
[3:42]concerning where today we try to gain some insights onto Imam Ali
[3:51]I mean world view concerning government the state and politics without doubt
[3:57]three topics that have affected the lives of every human being be
[4:01]you Muslim or non-muslim and a shout out to all of our
[4:06]non-muslim viewers who have messaged in who have been intrigued by some
[4:09]of the discussions we've had and in some cases had not even
[4:13]been welcome to the world of Imam when it comes to his
[4:16]thinking on a variety of topics on the one hand yesterday we
[4:20]saw Imam the Theologian talking about God but today we look at
[4:26]Imam when it comes to political philosophy and how we can achieve
[4:30]a society where the rights of the ruled are observed by the
[4:38]ruler because we've had some absolutely crazy governments in the history of
[4:43]mankind I'm sure you'll all agree with me as an eye alone
[4:45]when I think about my own life on this Earth I can
[4:48]think of a few leaders who've been on this Earth where all
[4:51]you associate with them is death killing Mass Graves torture imprisonment ultimately
[4:58]all of us as human beings we want to live under a
[5:04]government where our rights are observed by those who are in power
[5:07]and you find that throughout human history there have been different thinkers
[5:12]who have tried to reach a conclusion as to what will bring
[5:18]the ideal state the state that will observe each and every one
[5:22]of our rights I don't know how many of you probably have
[5:25]come across your parents or your grandparents when they say they lived
[5:29]in a country where they took all their rights away or they
[5:31]lived in a country where they were oppressed when we hear such
[5:35]lines these lines don't just affect the Muslim Community these are lines
[5:40]which affect every human being in the world at one point someone
[5:43]had to live under Hitler someone had to live under Stalin someone
[5:47]had to live on the Mao someone had to live under for
[5:52]example Mussolini someone had to live under Saddam all of these different
[5:56]rulers all had their own political ideology the ideology was an ideology
[6:03]that they believed will bring about the best government here I've probably
[6:08]given examples of rulers who we don't have good memories of and
[6:13]indeed you found that when you lived under a ruler where you
[6:19]found that there was a lack of observance of Rights different thinkers
[6:23]emerged in the wake of such rulers why because if my experience
[6:28]with a particular ruler has been a negative experience then I begin
[6:33]to rethink how I can build a more positive government for the
[6:39]future Generations reality is when it comes to political thoughts within Islam
[6:43]and outside of Islam Imam does not necessarily come as number one
[6:50]when you're looking at the books of literature that are written on
[6:56]political philosophy whether it's within Islam or outside of Islam and that's
[6:59]why when I'm doing this series of lectures it's because I want
[7:03]us to remind the world Islam should be at the Forefront of
[7:10]all these discussions if you ask a Muslim today who are the
[7:14]greatest Minds when it comes to political Theory or political thought they'll
[7:18]mention to you people like El mawardi for example they'll mention to
[7:24]you Eben rushed for example avaros they'll mention to you for example
[7:28]amongst the others such as farabi they'll mention to you for example
[7:33]they'll mention to you Eben Tamia these are the names that most
[7:39]people will mention when it comes to Islamic political thought how do
[7:44]I as a Muslim build an ideal State how do I build
[7:49]a government that will observe the rights of everybody within that particular
[7:52]government how will I make sure that that I as a leader
[7:58]if I'm gonna lead the Muslim Community I'm going to be somebody
[8:02]who recognized the needs of my people the voices of my people
[8:09]in the Islamic political tradition Imam is not the one that's mentioned
[8:13]straight away what you always says you might say for example you
[8:16]might say for example but nobody mentions if you go to the
[8:26]non-muslim world they haven't got a clue about Imam Ali's worldview when
[8:29]it comes to politics I ask all of you who are watching
[8:33]how many of your non-muslim friends if you discuss politics government and
[8:36]states with them how many of them would say to you he's
[8:39]an amazing thinker even in the uni is where we studied if
[8:45]you studied at Uni politics or government there are certain universities in
[8:48]the UK and the US they have amazing departments on political Theory
[8:53]and government London School of economics in the UK ethics University in
[8:57]the UK in the U.S you have for example a number of
[9:00]universities that are known for their politics departments how many of them
[9:03]study Imam if they study thinkers when it comes to politics it's
[9:09]not this man if they study I'll tell you who they study
[9:13]I vote with me three books which are arguably amongst the most
[9:17]famous books which non-muslims study when it comes to government and establishing
[9:22]a state that's gonna bring a social contract between the people where
[9:28]the ruler and the ruled both of them their rights are being
[9:31]observed who I bought with me here you've got Jean-Jacques Rousseau and
[9:37]I hope my friend Akil is proud of my pronunciation jean-jack Russo
[9:40]what do we have of the social contract and other political writings
[9:44]penguin Classics published a book about Rousseau Rousseau is one of the
[9:49]most famous thinkers when it comes to political theory if you go
[9:51]to the syllabus of any college or uni when you're studying politics
[9:55]you don't say Imam Ali's name you see Rousseau over there also
[9:58]you have many of you would have heard of Machiavelli I think
[10:01]he was more famously associated with a certain rapper but Machiavelli when
[10:07]you come to him you have the prince again another famous political
[10:12]text here is one of my favorite ones and from a famous
[10:14]British author and you have it in front of you over here
[10:20]Leviathan by Thomas Hobbs these are thinkers who emerge with a political
[10:26]worldview in the wake of the French Revolution or in the wake
[10:30]of the British Civil Wars someone like Hobbs for example his whole
[10:37]world of politics begins to change when he sees the British Wars
[10:40]the British Civil Wars he then begins to talk about politics he
[10:43]begins to talk about the nature of man and the need for
[10:49]a social contract and his ideas are very interesting that look we
[10:52]all need a leader and we need a political system that there's
[10:58]no doubt because if a human was left for example in an
[11:01]island imagine you were born in an island with other human beings
[11:06]in your natural state it would just be chaos if there's no
[11:09]order and there's no rule and there's no government imagine now they
[11:12]throw us on an island there's no government no police no ruler
[11:16]no judge no law what would we do to each other no
[11:18]one would observe each other's rights so he felt that there needed
[11:23]to be a social contract that is observed between the members of
[11:28]society now remember when Hobbs and Rousseau are talking they're talking thousand
[11:33]years after Imam but they're more famous in the world today when
[11:38]it comes to political Theory then Imam why because we neglected and
[11:42]we neglected the treasures of Imam Ali when it comes to politics
[11:47]you know Imam Ali has whole life his whole life revolves around
[11:50]politics his whole life and that's why even sometimes when people say
[11:54]to me you know the imams they were not political no no
[11:58]the imams were very political if politics was to establish the rights
[12:02]of the people then the Imam loved politics if politics was to
[12:07]establish justice which I will come to talk about very soon in
[12:10]these lectures Imam Ali and his Justice then politics is the best
[12:15]thing the problem is sometimes when you think of the word politics
[12:20]you always think nasty conniving deceit greed uh Liars isn't that true
[12:24]whenever you hear a sias you always say I'm telling you anyone
[12:26]who's in politics is a liar anyone who's in politics is a
[12:32]hypocrite Imam his whole life was in the world of politics was
[12:36]in the world of government firstly with who firstly seeing rasulullah that
[12:41]the holy prophet Muhammad enter politics or did he stay away from
[12:45]politics of course he entered Politics the prophet had no issue entering
[12:48]Politics the prophet was involved in constitutions like how we have today
[12:53]the American Constitution or we have the French Constitution the prophet had
[12:57]a constitution in Medina he saw politics there he saw politics of
[13:07]the religion of Islam after the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him
[13:12]had passed away he saw politicians all gathering around him of all
[13:17]different shapes and sizes different aspirations and different intentions he himself became
[13:22]Khalifa now I ask you someone who doesn't like politics why has
[13:25]he become Khalifa unless he has Politics as something important for him
[13:33]establishment of government as something important for him because you know what
[13:37]began to happen in the last few hundred years people began to
[13:40]state that only atheism or only something without religion can bring happiness
[13:49]to society why because the people trusted the Christian clergy in medieval
[13:55]Europe and they saw hypocrisy from the clergy the clergy was saying
[13:59]around saying we are those chosen by God and because we are
[14:04]God's representative on the earth whatever we do you cannot question in
[14:07]other words you know what it became we are the rulers you
[14:11]are a bunch of animals why do you think French Revolution and
[14:15]other revolutions took place and all these revolutions by the way that
[14:18]have taken place we are feeling the effects of them today because
[14:23]people could no longer trust that a man of God could be
[14:28]a man who will establish justice on the earth people forgot it
[14:32]people did they didn't trust it when Hobbes for example talks about
[14:35]the social contract what's he doing he's saying that these mawlanas and
[14:39]these Priests of Christianity these people I can't trust them they are
[14:44]claiming God has chosen them they play with the religion and the
[14:50]people's feelings as they want he said therefore that we have to
[14:54]rethink the model should the church be subject to the Civil Authority
[14:58]or should the Civic Authority be subject to the church notice now
[15:03]when we live in our Western countries what do we see we
[15:09]see the church is no longer at the helm today a person
[15:11]can even sell a church and convert it into flats and a
[15:15]person can even come to the church and change their opinions on
[15:18]things which Christianity says today they say it's okay 100 years ago
[15:20]they were saying it's wrong the church didn't recover from the fact
[15:28]that when religion was that the helm the people saw the religion
[15:32]by the people who represented this is a natural thing in human
[15:36]beings we our love of religion is about the people who represent
[15:42]the religion I ask you if someone now you meet him he
[15:44]represents the religion but you find him to be very rude would
[15:49]you love the religion no Your Love of the religion comes from
[15:51]where comes from seeing that the people of the religion are those
[15:55]who are establishing your rights are those who are observing your rights
[15:58]are those who are honoring the weak honoring the poor honoring the
[16:02]destitutes not those who are sitting with their friends circle at a
[16:09]certain level whose intentions are just us to destroy anyone who differs
[16:12]with them is just to overpower anyone who differs with them is
[16:15]to destroy the coffers of the state therefore when you come to
[16:18]Imam in reality is an exploration of how Imam Ali lived within
[16:28]the political climate of early Islam early Islam is not as rosy
[16:33]as it seems sometimes people paint early Islam as masha'allah everyone is
[16:36]very religious and in early Islam people did not have the wrong
[16:42]intentions and everyone wanted to observe the rights of each other the
[16:46]reality is that early Islam was full of rivalries full of political
[16:50]factions but the test for Imam was it about your ego in
[16:57]politics or was it about the message of Allah being observed in
[17:01]politics that was a major test I remember one scholar said that
[17:05]when people attacked Saddam Hussein when he was in power one famous
[17:09]scholar said I don't know you guys are attacking him when you
[17:14]come into power you might be like Haruna Rashid meaning that entering
[17:27]politics is a test of your near intention is a test of
[17:33]your taqwa your consciousness of God and your observance of the rights
[17:38]of God Imam we see Imam Ali Prophet Imam Ali with the
[17:44]caliphs Imam Imam alien Imam Ali khawaj these are all moments where
[17:51]the whole concept of Imam Ali in the world of politics in
[17:56]the world of government and in the world of state is revealed
[17:59]and that's why if you out there can all write a PhD
[18:03]Imam Ali and his conception of politics government and states I would
[18:08]be very proud because when I see Hobbes and I see Rousseau
[18:11]and I see people right on for example lipsius and I see
[18:16]people write about other famous political thinkers why do I not see
[18:20]Imam Ali and the phds on his political thoughts and by the
[18:24]way today I'm not gonna even detach Iman Ali's letter to Malik
[18:29]I'm not going to touch that imagine normally when someone talks about
[18:33]Imam Ali is the famous letter I'm not going to touch it
[18:37]I'm going to show you Imam Ali's psychology of politics psychology of
[18:43]government psychology of States within natural balaka and there are some people
[18:47]especially even now within the Iraqi community in the Pakistani Community who
[18:51]are watching this many of us have seen the governments of both
[18:54]those countries and we've seen so many issues emerge Pakistan we watch
[18:59]now with Imran Khan and we watch with what the groups within
[19:02]politics are coming out and saying in Iraq we see that recently
[19:07]I think two couple of billion dollars were nearly swindled out of
[19:10]the country when I see these two countries you know the sad
[19:12]thing for me is that these countries are made up of lovers
[19:17]of Imam and yet let's see where Imam Ali is and let's
[19:21]see where we are today because any of you who want to
[19:26]enter politics let's try and gain from some of the lessons first
[19:29]lesson I always look at first in my understanding of Imam is
[19:35]the means does not justify the ends what do I mean you
[19:39]know as soon as the prophet peace be upon his family died
[19:41]was not in Medina Abu sufyan was out of Medina straight away
[19:47]heard that the prophet peace be upon his family died he said
[19:52]so who's become the leader they said to him that Abu Bakr
[19:56]has become the first caliph Abu sofian went to Abbas he went
[20:02]to him and he said to him listen let's go to Ali
[20:08]clearly this should be his leadership let's go to him and we'll
[20:11]say to him that we'll send you the most soldiers we'll give
[20:16]you whatever you want and will make you become Khalifa at this
[20:19]moment is the first test when a person enters politics do I
[20:26]side with anyone to get the job done or do I make
[20:28]sure that those I side with are people of clean reputations because
[20:34]imagine in front of him what does he have is right in
[20:36]front of him the leadership is in front of him Abu sufyan
[20:40]is saying to him and Abu sufyan when he's saying I can
[20:41]get you that many uh there's double edge here on the one
[20:46]hand Abu sufyan can get that many on the other hand also
[20:50]wants to cause disruption Imam Ali if he was chasing political power
[20:56]all of us listen all of us one day one way or
[20:57]the other we want to be a prime minister we want to
[21:01]be a president remember Imam Ali was already for us Imam wasn't
[21:05]he from the day of radhe is already Iman sir on a
[21:08]spiritual level he's already my leader but political Head of the State
[21:11]something had taken place which resulted offers a chance for Imam Ali
[21:22]to have political power there in front of him what does Imam
[21:25]Ali show us firstly the means doesn't justify the ends I've seen
[21:28]some Muslims for example in their newsagents they'll sell alcohol and there
[21:32]is a nice box of Charity as you're about to pay so
[21:36]you're like what's going on it's a brother the money comes to
[21:39]me I give to charity the means doesn't justify the ends he
[21:45]in this text Machiavelli in the book for him being a politician
[21:49]is not about being Mr Nice Guy politician you've got to be
[21:54]a bit Stuart You Gotta Be You Gotta Have a bit of
[21:55]movement left to right and Center a bit of black and white
[22:01]no no not at all is sermon number five oh people he
[22:05]addresses the people stay clear through the waves of Mischief by boats
[22:13]of Deliverance turn away from the path of dissension and put off
[22:17]the crowns of Pride prosperous is one who Rises with wings when
[22:22]he has power or else he remains peaceful and others enjoy ease
[22:27]the aspiration for the caliphate is like turbid water or like a
[22:34]morsel that would suffocate the person who swallows it one who plucks
[22:38]fruits before ripening is like one who cultivated in another's field yeah
[22:44]the idea do you ever hear anyone describing leadership and the ability
[22:50]to have power but realizing not the right time not the right
[22:55]way not the right place the way he describes it was he
[23:01]saying aspiration for this Khalifa is like a morsel that would suffocate
[23:05]the person who would swallow it one who plucks fruits before ripening
[23:09]is like the one who cultivated in another's field I can easily
[23:13]come and take this power for myself the man has offered it
[23:18]to me but I won't use him to get into power he
[23:20]fought my Prophet you think I'm gonna trust him with khalafa this
[23:25]is not the man that I'll use sometimes in politics what's your
[23:27]ideal thing Bob I don't care who you are you've killed people
[23:31]you haven't killed people come let's work together no Imam Ali shows
[23:34]that hold on a minute you don't just go with anybody so
[23:37]that the ends is justified by their means no you have to
[23:43]maintain a principle about yourself moves on in sermon 33 there is
[23:50]this interesting discussion that Imam Ali has when IBN Abbas is setting
[23:55]off they're setting up for the Battle of Jamal and Imam Ali
[23:59]has just received leadership he has just received the caliphate when he's
[24:04]received the caliphate this is when this is 25 years after this
[24:09]incident I tell you if I was waiting for leadership for 25
[24:11]years I I honestly cannot wait for the day that I get
[24:16]that leadership when he receives the leadership he gives you a description
[24:20]that when you enter politics don't be someone who falls too hard
[24:24]for it chasing it relax you should have the purest intention when
[24:31]you're going for political power look what happens says what he says
[24:37]out to war with the people of Basra he came towards an
[24:43]audience he was stitching his shoe and if I was in politics
[24:49]you think I'm gonna Stitch my shoe well I'll get a thousand
[24:51]people to stitch my shoe I'll make sure that I take my
[24:55]shoe to the best store in Knightsbridge or the best store in
[24:58]Mayfair or the best store in Fifth Avenue and I'm head I'm
[25:02]the leader of the government leader of the state there are people
[25:06]when they are leaders of the state 26 cars behind them 31
[25:10]cars in front of them guys one guy he's got that many
[25:16]cars in front of him Imam Ali is now leader of the
[25:20]state 25 years he has seen politics government the state he comes
[25:25]and he has this moment where he's stitching his shoe I just
[25:28]wanted to picture the scene by the way which Muslim leader in
[25:32]the world do you know would Stitch his own shoe alive today
[25:38]which Muslim a Muslim leader which human leader on Earth in the
[25:46]world today would Stitch his own shoe sitting down and he's stitching
[25:50]his own shoe when Abbas says I saw that he was stitching
[25:54]his shoe then said to me what's the price of the shoe
[26:01]I said it has no value now he then said by Allah
[26:06]it should have been more dear to me than ruling over you
[26:12]the shoe is more dear to me than ruling over you but
[26:17]for the fact that I may establish right and ward off what
[26:24]is wrong the beauty when I become Prime Minister called every member
[26:31]of my family everyone come home if I became leader even if
[26:35]I become mayor of the city that I live in I'll have
[26:38]a party the whole week looks he says what's the value of
[26:43]this shoe that I'm stitching stitching a shoe means that the shoes
[26:46]virtually ragged I mean Abba says has no value it says you
[26:51]know what this is more dead to me than leading over all
[26:56]of you I don't chase this because I want to be the
[26:59]powerful man I do it for one intention only and that should
[27:05]be the intention of every ruler which is what whether you're atheist
[27:10]or monotheist listen we've had leaders who are not uh Muslim but
[27:13]they're just human beings wouldn't you agree there are leaders who are
[27:16]not Muslim but they tried their hardest even now some of us
[27:21]live in Western countries can we deny those of us who live
[27:25]for example in Sweden those who live in parts of the UK
[27:27]those who live in parts of Canada those who live in parts
[27:32]of America can we deny that we have been given certain rights
[27:35]that maybe in Muslim countries we have not been given can we
[27:39]deny that there is a system of establishing rights and warding off
[27:43]the wrongs what does he say he makes it clear by saying
[27:47]that this leadership is not something that I'm gagging for that I
[27:51]have to become your leader and I have to rule away no
[27:54]no no no for me there is one reason that this should
[27:58]ever be in your mind not that I get all your contracts
[28:01]not that I get gas contracts not that I get University contracts
[28:07]or government contracts it's so that when I see someone who is
[28:11]Muslim I make sure that that person is looked after and when
[28:14]I see someone who is oppressed I make sure that person is
[28:19]someone whose voice we hear so then the Imam moves on in
[28:21]sermon number 40.
[28:23]what does he go on to say he he goes on to
[28:27]make it clear what should be the reason when it comes to
[28:30]rulership in where look how intertwined his world is with government and
[28:37]politics had said something they that rulership only belongs to Allah not
[28:42]to humans subhanallah Medieval Europe what did we say the kings were
[28:46]saying Allah has chosen me yes rulership is only the was saying
[28:54]what rulership belongs to Allah this sermon is the one where the
[28:57]famous line you must have heard it in your families wherever you've
[29:00]been killing this is the sermon this sermon sermon number 40 of
[29:10]natural it is a truthful sentence the sentence is right but what
[29:15]they mean is wrong what were they saying they were saying that
[29:21]you Ali after the battle of safine they had turned around they
[29:24]said you shouldn't be the ruler the ruler is only Allah not
[29:26]you not Imam Ali replied yes it's for Allah there's no doubt
[29:34]there's an easy way to answer the the point and that is
[29:37]by saying if the Hokum is only for Allah then why are
[29:39]there mawlana's who do divorces if the hukum is only for Allah
[29:44]why do we have Scholars who do divorces who's given the Hokum
[29:47]or the authority to that scholar Imam Ali what does he say
[29:53]he says that the sentence is right the sentence is right but
[29:58]what they mean is wrong it is true that the verdict lies
[30:02]with Allah but these people say that the function of governance is
[30:07]only for Allah the fact is there is no escape from men
[30:14]for men from rulers good or bad the faithful persons perform good
[30:18]acts in his rule while the Unfaithful enjoys worldly benefits in rule
[30:24]this is a very interesting line Wallah just look at this line
[30:29]I'll repeat it again There Is No Escape for men from rulers
[30:32]good or bad faithful people they are what perform good acts under
[30:37]his rule while the Unfaithful enjoy worldly benefits under it there are
[30:42]people who are faithful they will do good deeds under the rule
[30:47]but those who are for example unfair Unfaithful they can still enjoy
[30:50]the worldly benefits under a leader there are certain people just because
[30:53]he's not religious does not mean he could not enjoy worldly benefits
[30:56]under the rule of a government Imam continues during the rule Allah
[31:02]would carry everything to end through the rule listen to this through
[31:05]the ruler tax is collected enemies are fought roadways are protected and
[31:14]the right of the weak is taken from the strong Till The
[31:18]Virtuous enjoys peace and is allowed protection from the oppression of the
[31:22]wicked Manifesto of government in three lines that's it you don't even
[31:28]need to go further if someone was to ask you describe Imam
[31:31]Ali's Manifesto of governance three lines nothing more what are the three
[31:36]lines again what does he say I will repeat this again through
[31:39]the ruler taxes collected tax not just from the poor why am
[31:44]I only thinking of the poor the rich if you allow them
[31:48]to get away from the tax there's nothing wrong with being rich
[31:50]but when the rich have connections where they don't need to pay
[31:57]what the poor are paying when the rich have loopholes the poor
[32:00]end up paying but the Rich has a loophole the ruler has
[32:07]to collect taxes from who the ruler the taxes collected enemy is
[32:11]fought naturally if there is an enemy that's coming into my country
[32:14]I'm a ruler do I allow the enemies to come and attack
[32:17]me I as the rule I have to make sure that I
[32:18]am the leader of the defense then after that what roadways are
[32:24]protected what's roadways are protected that my sister when she walks on
[32:27]the street she's not going to get harassed in the middle of
[32:29]the night by someone who wants to take her honor a just
[32:33]government I tell you something there are certain muslim-majority countries in the
[32:40]world where I believe that you could be a lady walking there
[32:43]at 2 am or 4 am in the night Muslim majority countries
[32:48]and you will never be harassed or you will have little chance
[32:52]of anyone harassing you example Dubai I'll give you an example there
[32:58]is a city there Dubai everybody would have been the ladies can
[33:02]go out in the middle of the night they're able to go
[33:05]and have a meal they're able to go and see friends you
[33:06]could go and sit in a cafe that same place is a
[33:11]place where you could have the Adan being recited you can have
[33:13]Muslims and non-muslims all working together it's amazing how in this city
[33:20]London there are ladies who after 10 o'clock think a million times
[33:22]about walking in the streets not that I say it's recommended in
[33:27]a city for people just to be out late night and so
[33:30]on but in this city London the height of the first world
[33:36]ladies only walking near Clapham are worried whether they'll get home or
[33:39]no you heard about that lady who was killed and others who
[33:43]were killed Imam says the ruler must ensure that the roadways are
[33:47]protected Qatar is another place Qatar you could go at 2 am
[33:52]there's no chance people went for the World Cup ladies who went
[33:54]for the World Cup they were saying how at peace they felt
[33:58]and how respected they felt Aman Muscat people go there 2 A.M
[34:01]3 A.M they feel their honor is maintained a just government as
[34:08]where the roads are protected where people's honor not I hear everyday
[34:12]countries which are called first world every day three-year-old has been taken
[34:15]four-year-old taken five-year-old taking pedophiles everywhere a road where people are protected
[34:22]and then what does he say and the rights of the weak
[34:27]is taken from the strong that you don't neglect the weak in
[34:31]your country that you ask about the week ask about their voices
[34:34]what happened to them make sure that they're not being oppressed they're
[34:37]not being hurt in any way whatsoever therefore Imam showed that when
[34:42]power was offered in front of me I didn't take it I
[34:45]could have taken it was telling me come let's do our own
[34:50]thing then when power did come to me I turned around and
[34:51]said you know what Wallah is not worth more than my shoe
[34:55]that I'm stitching I promise you best if the main thing for
[34:56]me is I just want to make sure that I establish the
[34:59]rights of the people then on top of that when I do
[35:01]rule it is to make sure you're saying to me how come
[35:05]it's for Allah yes how come is for Allah so the heart
[35:09]came on behalf of God should be somebody who establishes God's rule
[35:12]on the earth and then he has this amazing sermon in sermon
[35:16]215 which in my opinion should be its own book of literature
[35:22]when it comes to the ruler and the rules many times when
[35:27]you hear Imam Ali's name all you think is Baba come and
[35:32]look at the political philosopher that is Imam alien sermon 215 and
[35:38]Wallah it's not the non-muslim's fault it's us Muslim s that we
[35:42]left this man and neglected his words today when a person talks
[35:47]of a social contract between the state and the people listen not
[35:51]to Hobbes has this thing in the middle of battles he stops
[36:03]to give a sermon to remind the people of what's happening in
[36:08]Jamel the whole battle stopped at the Battle of Germany all stopped
[36:11]when a man said where's Ali I want to ask him if
[36:15]God is one he stopped the battle he's not the battle he's
[36:17]like listen that's why I'm here I want to answer this question
[36:19]middle of the battle Safina I asked you a question would you
[36:22]in the middle of battle give a whole about government in the
[36:27]state sermon 215 so now Allah the glorified has by placing me
[36:34]over your Affairs created my rights over you and you too have
[36:37]a right over me like mine over you I have a right
[36:48]over you but you've got a right over me as well it's
[36:51]not just me who's in charge here you have to also say
[36:56]if you have an issue say be open all right it's very
[37:02]vast in description but very narrow narrow in equitability of action it
[37:07]does not accrue to any person unless it's a cruise against him
[37:14]also and right does not accrue against a person unless it's also
[37:17]a cruise in his favor by the way this is different level
[37:20]if I said this in Arabic we would have to shut down
[37:22]the TV station because there's no point even talking I'm telling you
[37:24]but it's only because we the Muslims have forgotten the Arabic language
[37:30]that we have to do everything in the second languages is a
[37:35]different ballgame Jah had said above the creation below the Creator this
[37:41]is English but even in English there comes a point where Imam
[37:47]Ali is now I come to the philosophical mind now is we
[37:56]limited Imam Alito swords but anyone can be a warrior but not
[38:01]everyone in the middle of War explains to you what are rights
[38:05]how many times you hear human rights U.N Declaration of Human Rights
[38:08]EU Convention of Human Rights come listen to the world of Rights
[38:11]here if there is any right which is only in favor of
[38:15]a person with no corresponding rights accruing against him it is solely
[38:20]for Allah the glorified and not for his creatures by virtue of
[38:23]his might over his creatures and by virtue of the Justice permeating
[38:28]all his decrees then from his rights he the glorified Allah created
[38:34]certain rights for certain people against others he made them so as
[38:39]to equate one with another some of these rights produce other rights
[38:46]some rights are such that they do not accrue except with others
[38:52]the greatest of these rights that Allah has made obligatory is the
[38:56]right of the ruler over the rules and the right of the
[39:00]ruled over the ruler subhanallah the greatest is the right of the
[39:06]ruler over the rule but the right of the rules over the
[39:10]ruler this is an obligation which Allah has placed on each other
[39:14]he has made it the basis of their Mutual affection and an
[39:19]honor for their religion consequently the rule cannot Prosper unless the rulers
[39:28]are sound while the rulers cannot be sound unless the rules are
[39:36]steadfast if the rules fulfill the rights of the ruler and the
[39:40]ruler fulfills their rights then right attains the position of Honor among
[39:46]them the ways of religion become established signs of Justice become fixed
[39:51]and the sun against current and the Sunnah gains currency look what
[39:55]he says if the right the ruler establishes his rule properly and
[40:02]You observe your rights properly then what will happen religion has now
[40:06]become established religion is not Salah many pray many pray but they
[40:11]trample on your heart this one owes this one money this one
[40:15]owes this one money this one scammed this one this one right
[40:16]away with this one it's not that Islam is about between the
[40:24]people observing each other's rights how many times Hadith where the holy
[40:30]prophet peace be upon Him says a Muslim is what the person
[40:33]who the people feel secure from his tongue that is Islam someone
[40:42]says no no Islam is that I have a nice beard and
[40:45]I have a sipah and I walk around wearing a dishdasher I
[40:48]wish well I wish that was Islam but you know where the
[40:52]problem is the French Revolution and the British they showed us one
[40:56]thing that sometimes looking religious if you do Injustice so the people
[40:59]people run away from religion in this way time will improve the
[41:05]continuance of governments will be expected and the aims of the enemies
[41:10]will be frustrated but if the rule gains sway over the ruler
[41:15]or the ruler oppresses the rules then difference crops up in every
[41:22]word signs of Oppression appear Mischief enters religion and the way of
[41:25]the Sunnah is forsaken you should therefore counsel each other for the
[41:30]Fulfillment of your obligations you see someone trampling on someone else's hack
[41:34]in the state counsel each other talk to each other but why
[41:38]are you oppressing this person we all have opened the state and
[41:42]cooperate with each other however extremely eager a person may be to
[41:45]secure the pleasure of God and however fully strives for it he
[41:50]cannot discharge his obligation for obedience to Allah as it's really true
[41:53]to him and as it and it is an obligatory right of
[41:55]Allah with the people that they should advise each other to the
[41:59]best of their ability and cooperate with each other for the establishment
[42:02]of Truth amongst them no person however greatest position in the matter
[42:09]of Truth and however Advanced his distinction in religion maybe is above
[42:14]cooperation in connection with the obligations Allah has placed on him again
[42:19]no man however small he may be regarded by others and however
[42:26]humble he may appear before people's eyes is too low to cooperate
[42:30]or be afforded cooperation in this manner here Imam Ali is establishing
[42:37]the rights of the ruler but also that you should never forget
[42:40]the rights of the rules someone said but said let me tell
[42:46]you something Ali is politics is ideal no one can be like
[42:50]Imam Ali alaihissalam and had Imam Ali being a bit more shrewd
[42:52]in politics then people would have remembered him more but because his
[42:57]politics was a bit too ideal people remembered who they remembered others
[43:02]more than him because you know in certain Western academic universities they
[43:06]say more awiya is the great politician they say who is the
[43:13]great politician say why said look out and look at Ali are
[43:19]ruled for 20 years and Imam Ali ruled for how long four
[43:26]if Imam Ali is politics was as great as he says it
[43:31]is then how comes ruled more than him some people even say
[43:36]listen Imam Ali is politics because he's an Imam they're the only
[43:40]ones who could be like that and more hour is what real
[43:44]politics is that you want to see a shrewd you should see
[43:46]the meaning of politician should be like wow yeah I met people
[43:50]in Iraq you know what they were saying to me said Iraq
[43:52]for it to be fixed up it needs Saddam Hussein it needs
[44:01]a really you know strong leader I said strong really really he's
[44:13]he's shrewd and uh Saddam and they need this the biggest shame
[44:21]on Islam is when politics is defined by Terror by corruption and
[44:28]by arrogance instead of by Justice by Honor and by dignity and
[44:33]people came and accused him at his time they said to him
[44:39]he answers them someone came to him and there was a rumor
[44:43]going ground everywhere in the Islamic state is greater than Ali what's
[44:53]Ali what's Ali achieved Imam Ali they said was a man who
[44:59]got fought three times in four years remember someone came to Imam
[45:02]Ali and said how comes with Abu Bakr and hamar when they
[45:06]were in power we didn't see any awards and when you are
[45:09]in power we saw three he said because in their time they
[45:13]had people like me and in my time I have people like
[45:15]you yeah but still the rumor was going around that more aware
[45:21]was a greater politician than Imam Ali how does Imam answer sermon
[45:27]199 because the rumor when it went round Imam said you know
[45:30]what I'm gonna have to answer this because you've not understood what
[45:35]politics is what do you mean you're saying it's greater than me
[45:40]in politics go to sermon 199 my dear brothers and sisters wherever
[45:44]you may be what does he say Imam says sermon 199 by
[45:52]Allah has not more cunning than I am but he deceives and
[45:58]commits evil Deeds had I not been hateful of Deceit I would
[46:03]have been the most cunning of all men you know the Arabs
[46:08]they say he has da he has helped him says the only
[46:19]thing that stops me from making certain decisions where I would have
[46:24]been ruling for 20 and him for four where do I take
[46:29]you back mahalia's dad what did he offer him is a greater
[46:38]politician than Ali and some of our non-muslim viewers might not understand
[46:42]the context of this the context is that ruled for 20 years
[46:48]even the area he ruled was for 40 years Imam Ali ruled
[46:50]for four years people said look more AWI is greater than Ali
[46:55]Imam Ali says listen defend depends how you Define politics in Islam
[46:58]if politics in Islam is backhanders if politics in Islam is stabbing
[47:06]people in hotel rooms or assassinating them to get to power there
[47:09]are Muslims by the way there are famous Muslim leaders who have
[47:13]killed Muslim Scholars just to get into the path of being in
[47:21]power there are Muslim leaders who innocent holama suddenly went missing one
[47:26]day while those Muslim leaders ruled African countries an island goes missing
[47:33]that leader people will say what a politician that colonel was for
[47:37]example what a politician yes but what's politics what's your definition of
[47:42]politics if your definition of politics is that I come and under
[47:44]the table and give you some if you're going to stab my
[47:47]opponent or shoot him when he's driving that's not politics now you're
[47:51]conniving in sermon 199 what does Imam Ali Say by Allah is
[47:57]not more of a politician than I am but he deceives and
[48:02]commits evil Deeds had I not been hateful of Deceit I would
[48:04]have been the best politician of all men but the fact the
[48:10]fact is that every deceit is a sin and every sin is
[48:15]a Disobedience of Allah and every deceitful person will have a banner
[48:19]by which he will be recognized on the day of judgment by
[48:22]Allah I cannot be made forgetful by strategy nor can I be
[48:26]overpowered by hardships easily the Imam could have easily turned around Wallah
[48:32]would have had more years in power than what was doing more
[48:37]hour sends this guy a bribe all of a sudden imam's own
[48:39]cousin goes to the other side more hour comes and sends people
[48:45]to kill some people in this area and even if you know
[48:46]even when he would come to the battlefield against mohawi against all
[48:49]those who fought him he would tell his people they strike the
[48:53]arrow first not us who's only concerned about his own power his
[48:59]own political success will go through anything that means will always justify
[49:04]the ends if I need to spy on someone and to assassinate
[49:09]someone to get them out of my way I need to go
[49:11]and kill them or threaten their family that will send people to
[49:13]come and rape them there are politicians who do this don't they
[49:15]I'll call you I'll say listen you try and campaign in this
[49:19]election I'll come after you and your family what would you do
[49:22]then you know what forget it Imam Ali says when you say
[49:25]mohawi is politics is greater than mine his one he's not worried
[49:29]about the seeds there is no taqwa in his politics therefore when
[49:33]we look at Imam Ali's world you're therefore within the nedge you
[49:36]see that Imam addresses a number of key areas these areas are
[49:42]in reality looking at what looking at the morality that a person
[49:45]has to be involved in when they go into the world of
[49:48]politics and that's why for me you know sometimes people say to
[49:51]me said Ahmad what's your most wonderful moment of Imam Ali in
[49:53]politics or even in his life sometimes they're surprised when I give
[50:00]them the answer always actually they're surprised if I was to ask
[50:04]you what's your favorite moment of Imam Ali's life normally you'll say
[50:06]to me bro hey about what he did someone might say to
[50:10]me bro khanda he was unbelievable someone might say to me his
[50:13]power is bravery others might say to me for example maybe his
[50:17]knowledge some might say this some might say for example he slept
[50:19]on the nights of Hijra on the bed of rasulullah I gave
[50:22]his life away for me the greatness of Imam Ali my favorite
[50:27]moment in his entire life was in the middle of the battle
[50:33]of safin when Imam saw his people saying that we want to
[50:37]listen to what more how we are saying and we want there
[50:42]to be an arbitration between the two parties and Imam Ali turns
[50:46]around and he says you know what if that's what you believe
[50:47]is best then I will not impose my rule over you your
[50:53]Imam you could easily turn around and force them no I will
[50:59]not force my people onto something if they don't believe that I'm
[51:03]the one fit to do it do you know how much you
[51:05]have to deflate your ego how many leaders do you know in
[51:09]the in the in the world sit in the seats of power
[51:10]once I said the favorite Ayah of any leader is because they
[51:16]love the cursive how many leaders do you know in the Muslim
[51:18]World they will not get off their chairs even if their people
[51:23]do not want them in power so Baba I'm not moving I'm
[51:25]staying on this chair you are not removing Habibi but the people
[51:31]don't want you anymore in power the people are sick and tired
[51:33]of you there are certain Western countries that people hate the leaders
[51:36]but the lead is not moving but those countries they decorated it
[51:41]with democracy a declaration which has its own Flaws by the way
[51:45]we discuss on another night but Imam when his people in the
[51:47]middle of safety and he said you know what arbitration no problem
[51:49]arbitration if it has to come down to you people saying that
[51:55]you don't believe that I'm for to rule you then let the
[51:56]soul continue we'll choose from our side when he chose my little
[52:01]Esther from his side they chose who asked the people on his
[52:04]side said we don't want the other side we don't want Malik
[52:07]he said very well choose someone else where'd you find that man
[52:10]you talk about democracy and the rights of the people to be
[52:14]heard which man who's in power when his own Army says we
[52:16]don't want you we'll say okay you know what I'm gonna step
[52:20]down Wallah no leader would do that they see the treasures of
[52:23]this Dunya Imam Ali had waited 25 years if you waited 25
[52:28]years position and then the people in that company said you we
[52:30]don't want you anymore would you turn around and say okay I'll
[52:32]go would you say no I'm gonna fight for no Imam when
[52:37]he talks about this a lot and that's why my Dearborn sisters
[52:40]to conclude there are certain Hadith we've only looked at sermons for
[52:47]the majority of these lectures I'm gonna just take you through a
[52:49]couple of a Hadith at the end of by the way these
[52:51]are Hadith they are the best statements sayings you can have by
[52:56]any human being at the end of natural there are certain Hadith
[53:00]of Imam and some of these relate to the world of politics
[53:04]and Wallah sometimes I wish our Muslim politicians would apply some of
[53:08]these ahadis the first one what is it when you gain power
[53:14]over your adversary pardon him by way of thanks for being able
[53:18]to overpower him oh my Lord Almighty what a level when you
[53:24]gain power over someone pardon him by way of thanks for being
[53:27]able to overpower him if I overpowered someone Allah I'll make fun
[53:34]of them all day Imam Ali says when you gain power over
[53:37]your adversary pardon him by way of thanks for being able to
[53:44]overpower him number one number two Hadi that was Hadith every Mischief
[53:49]manga cannot always be reproved when you have a Mischief manga in
[53:55]your government who's not listening to you don't always mention the guy
[53:58]leave him there comes a point when you're talking to deaf ears
[54:00]Hadith number three Hadith 23.
[54:05]he whose Deeds are called him a back position cannot be given
[54:10]a front position because of his family lineage if your Deeds means
[54:15]you're at the back don't put him in power because his surname
[54:18]is big put the person who deserves to be in power because
[54:23]of our we put certain people in power and politics who shouldn't
[54:28]be sitting there Imam Ali says the one who's at the back
[54:30]don't let him sit at the front because of his lineage welcome
[54:34]to the wonderful world of Imam on politics States and government join
[54:39]me tomorrow as we continue with the discussion of natural [Music] [Music]

[58:42]which is a show featuring a rotating panel of female presenters discussing
[58:46]a range of topics for my female perspective verses of Love aims
[58:50]to be the post-modulous medulus it tries to bring the community together
[58:57]to continue engaging with the massage I've had the honor of working
[59:01]and directing and producing documentaries for the Imam Hussain TV 3 channel
[59:06]so the Late Night show is essentially it's a talk show I
[59:08]had guests all the way from self-development experts media experts sales directors
[59:13]my show live in London it needs no introduction with world-renowned scholar
[59:18]Dr Syed amarnakshwani sometimes it's difficult for us to do the research
[59:21]it takes us sometimes a week two weeks to find answers for
[59:24]certain questions sometimes the questions don't even get answered and we have
[59:26]to roll them all into next week but I guess this is
[59:29]a problem that is actually you know a good headache and worth
[59:30]having one of the main difficulties which we come across is getting
[59:34]female participants to participate on the show after the show when we
[59:39]get the emails coming through from the woman in our society in
[59:43]our community and it really shows us that women relate more to
[59:46]a female speaker among some of the difficulties I'd say is the
[59:49]late nights with a pretty hectic schedule for all the reciters who
[59:53]have probably come from one or two Majoris beforehand sometimes you just
[59:57]have this magical moment where the reciter says a line that connects
[60:00]and lets you release all of that emotion which helps you connect
[60:04]with about Abdullah and therefore Allah I filmed these documentaries during Colvin
[60:10]that always stays with me because I think that was a difficulty
[60:12]that I thought I will face yet I think Imam and Hussain
[60:17]Salaam opened so many doors and made everything so easy for me
[60:20]how much can we laugh and joke on an Islamic Channel especially
[60:22]when the channel is associated but the best part of the show
[60:27]is actually it's the fun part of it so that's that's the
[60:28]games the best thing about this show you can actually speak and
[60:32]discuss and actually voice their opinions and questions to Dr Sayed amanakshwani
[60:38]we've come so far yet still have so much more to achieve
[60:40]support us so that we can support your children in bringing them
[60:44]more knowledge and content because the amount of saying TV is your
[60:50]gateway to Carabella Bismillah
