[3:00]life and life karbala life karbala live the bkr Hussain [Music] my
[3:53]dear brothers and sisters we examine tonight arguably one of the most
[3:59]controversial sermons a sermon that many debate constantly as to its authenticity
[4:06]a sermon which is known as the sermon concerning the deficiencies of
[4:11]woman or the shortcomings of woman now this sermon is one which
[4:17]always results in many different opinions and amongst the main questions that
[4:22]are asked in relation to this sermon is say such a thing
[4:28]because when you hear the sermon the sermon says o people sermon
[4:31]79 or 780 depending on which of the editions of natural that
[4:37]you have all people women are deficient in faith deficient in shares
[4:42]and deficient in intelligence as regards their deficiency in faith it is
[4:50]their abstention from prayers and fasting during their menstrual period as regards
[4:57]deficiency in their intelligence it is because the evidence of two women
[5:02]is equal to that of one man as for the deficiency of
[5:07]their shares that is because of their share and inheritance being half
[5:13]of men so beware of the evils of woman be on your
[5:16]God even from those of them who are reportedly good do not
[5:23]obey them even in good things so that they may not attract
[5:29]you to evils now you put this in a society today and
[5:31]you will have the whole world going crazy when they hear such
[5:36]lines because we live in a world where on the one hand
[5:38]all of us see every day the feminist movements virtually everywhere and
[5:43]feminist movements don't emerge from a vacuum the reality is feminist movements
[5:47]emerge in a period where for example truly female rights may not
[5:54]be given sometimes you have certain countries where the rights to vote
[5:57]are not given sometimes you have certain countries where the right to
[6:01]own property is not given sometimes you have certain countries where the
[6:05]right to have education is not given sometimes not countries sometimes countries
[6:11]allow cultures though sometimes I may find a particular culture somewhere in
[6:16]the world that lately says our daughters don't go to school they
[6:19]don't go to college they don't go to university they get married
[6:22]young and their maternal instincts will kick in so sometimes I may
[6:29]live within a country where my culture sometimes could be the issue
[6:33]more than the laws of that country and even if you look
[6:38]at Muslim majority countries where really at a Crossroads in relation to
[6:42]gender roles in the past the gender roles were pretty clear whether
[6:49]we like it we don't want a Muslim uh majority country husband
[6:53]Breadwinner wife mother pregnancy maternal instincts now of course we have sisters
[7:00]who are very well educated who some of them are doctors some
[7:04]are lawyers some are Finance some are Optics some are pharmacists in
[7:09]the past one may argue that if you live for example in
[7:14]Negev or you lived in Kerala you didn't necessarily expect that the
[7:20]gender roles would differ from the classic traditional now you could have
[7:24]families who come from Niger have come from Carabella come from their
[7:28]daughters are all working Monday to Friday nine to five they may
[7:32]be living a very independent lifestyle is there a problem with this
[7:38]islamically or not and who defines the gender roles it's amazing that
[7:43]we talk about gender roles in a world where everyone's focusing on
[7:46]whether there's only two genders that's how confused we've become that now
[7:51]there's he and she and male and female and now we have
[7:55]XI and they and them and so on but I think when
[8:00]you're looking at sermon 80 of the first issue is that clearly
[8:07]emerge are issues concerning understanding the definition of male definition of female
[8:13]what is masculine what is feminine what's the biological differences between the
[8:19]two what are the social differences between the two what are the
[8:25]legal differences between the two until we emerge towards a dynamic where
[8:30]one may even state that this sermon is a major sermon in
[8:37]relation to leadership roles and not just biological differences because if you
[8:46]ask people generally about sermon 80 of the one which I just
[8:50]narrated they'll say this is Imam giving this sermon after the battle
[8:58]of Jamel when they say this the whole idea that they want
[9:03]to focus on is that imam's main points of attack was Aisha
[9:10]as we know Aisha the wife of the Prophet peace be upon
[9:14]him had led an Army against Imam at the Battle of German
[9:20]this is somewhat unprecedented for us to find a battle in Islamic
[9:25]history where a female leads it against the male if I look
[9:32]at for example battles even the other civil wars that you create
[9:39]say safian is Imam this battle being led by a female was
[9:45]something very unusual it being unusual in which sense in the sense
[9:51]that now we have this conundrum where not only do you have
[9:57]what is normally seen as a very male dominated Arabian society then
[10:03]forget now but now people were beginning to look at this situation
[10:09]and wondering what imam's response to a female leading was gonna be
[10:13]hence what happened was that true schools of Scholars emerged and when
[10:21]I say true schools I mean two schools of Maharaja emerged one
[10:26]school of Maharaja said this is authentic this is Imam I didn't
[10:33]talk about Aisha another school said how could it be authentic that
[10:38]no way Imam would contradict the world view of the Quran when
[10:44]I therefore see two schools I cannot give my own opinion on
[10:50]this topic there is a school by the way that said it's
[10:52]better that we don't give our opinion some people said well what's
[10:59]the issue with us for example denying the sermon now the sermon
[11:05]is where it's in is not the Quran the Quran I cannot
[11:13]see an eye of the Quran and say I want to deny
[11:16]this Ayah because I don't like the Ayah I'm denying it because
[11:19]we know for certain that the Quran is the word of Allah
[11:22]that has never been open to question we still have manuscripts that
[11:28]go back we have an oral transmission that was impeccable until today
[11:32]you could see people leading Salah or for example recite the Quran
[11:36]and the holy month of Ramadan or outside where they can literally
[11:38]from one generation to another already transmit the Quran but after the
[11:44]Quran if I'm willing to question a book like al-khafi and I
[11:48]know that father may be seen in the eyes of some as
[11:54]an equivalent to sahihil bukhari in the Sunni world if I'm willing
[11:59]to say for example as some Scholars have said that not everything
[12:03]there within al-khafi is authentic and one only has to look at
[12:09]Allah is analysis of this area then why can I not question
[12:15]that what could be a natural balaka is also open to debate
[12:19]yes if you put the likes of IBN abil Hadid and let's
[12:28]say who by the way has no issue Muhammad Abdul on this
[12:35]particular sermon says this we've seen this experience from women for many
[12:38]years so the sermon is not wrong you just have to see
[12:41]history of people's interactions with females and you'll see that you go
[12:45]always be careful that that's his opinion but there's a Sunni scholarship
[12:51]these are amongst the main Scholars who have given full analysis of
[12:59]a Sunni worldview would be one that has a problem with natural
[13:04]for example the sermon like when they see Imam attacking what took
[13:08]place after the prophet died with the three the Sunni may look
[13:13]at that and say that's the question that I will put on
[13:15]the authenticity of natural because they do not believe that Imam would
[13:21]say such things about the but when it comes to a Shiite
[13:25]when a Shiite is looking at you'll find that for some Shia
[13:31]of course as soon as they hear they sing Everything or 100
[13:34]authentic and we know that our ulama have had question marks on
[13:39]some of the things as to whether they are attributed to Imam
[13:44]Ali or whether parts of these sermons have been found related to
[13:47]Imam Ali but not the whole sermon so for me if I
[13:53]could question a sermon in alcafi and al-khafi is serious number one
[14:01]of the cultural at the very least then why can I question
[14:07]a sermon I don't have so surely it should be open to
[14:14]questioning but then again what Paradigm am I questioning from am I
[14:22]questioning from the Paradigm that I live in London in 2023 and
[14:26]therefore when I look at some of these issues because of the
[14:32]Paradigm that I see around me today that means I look back
[14:34]at what said a thousand years ago and I want to apply
[14:38]the Paradigm today to what said and therefore if I see something
[14:41]which is said which is a little bit harsh or maybe generalization
[14:45]towards women then automatically because of the world I live in today
[14:52]I will say no way am I accepting this that could be
[14:55]one reason why someone might reject this because then the world that
[14:57]we live in today there are leadership roles that may have been
[15:01]taken by women there are certain countries and the world one may
[15:07]argue Pakistan one may argue Bangladesh which I'll normally we've seen as
[15:11]third world countries which have been led by females this country the
[15:14]United Kingdom has been led by female a couple of females and
[15:21]so when I see this I'm trying to contrast the idea of
[15:27]females obeying females females As Leaders versus today but then again I
[15:32]might have to contrast something else what is it the difference between
[15:37]today having a female prime minister and female president is that she's
[15:42]not standing up to um chosen by Allah they are not standing
[15:49]up to someone Allah has chosen in this sermon the school of
[15:58]Maharaja who believe it's authentic is referring to leadership when leadership stands
[16:08]against that's when you need to reassess your role your biological and
[16:15]social makeup if it's not standing Against the Machine it might be
[16:19]a completely different story but if standing against the masum that's where
[16:23]an issue may arise so in this summary of an introduction do
[16:28]you realize how many complications we have in looking at this because
[16:32]one school will want to come out and say no way Imam
[16:34]would say these things another will say but hold on is what
[16:41]he's saying contradictory to the Quran really or not please let's try
[16:47]and do the step by step and see where we get let's
[16:48]look at it again we're saying Battle of German the school of
[16:55]Maharaja who believes this is authentic so you may have a couple
[17:00]in on and you have a couple in najaf who believe it's
[17:02]not authentic now in com those who believe it's authentic they want
[17:07]us to refer to the sermon and think properly about whether what's
[17:10]being said is really in contradiction to the Quran no no all
[17:16]people women are deficient in faith deficient in shares and deficient in
[17:22]intelligence as regards their deficiency in their faith it is their abstention
[17:29]from prayers and fasting during their menstrual period in Islamic law is
[17:37]there an obligatory abstention for the female when she's in her menstrual
[17:42]period from Salah and so on yes that's not something put aside
[17:50]this sermon put aside the sermon a female will recognize that quranically
[17:54]speaking biologically speaking for even Quran aside biologically speaking there is a
[18:04]law for her because of her biology that she has to stay
[18:09]away from fasting and prayer what are the results of that law
[18:14]what effects do they have on one's emotion at that moment on
[18:21]one's temperament at that moment now a person could turn around of
[18:26]course and say that there are ladies even though they're in their
[18:32]monthly cycle there are ladies who may do more thicker of Allah
[18:35]not in the wajabbar than some of the men in the house
[18:39]but the reality is the men don't have a monthly cycle but
[18:41]the female does notice here that if a person turns around and
[18:46]says I don't believe these are the words of Imam but these
[18:50]are the laws of the Quran so if I look in the
[18:51]Quran for example let's say in those of you who have the
[18:56]Quran up at home the Quran I go to Surat al-baqarah when
[19:00]I go to Surah al-baqarah I see for example somewhere like there's
[19:03]a series of verses from like verse 200 and let's say 22
[19:07]onwards and you'll see very blatantly and they ask you why yes
[19:14]they ask you about menstruation they're asking the prophet he replies what
[19:20]it is harm so keep away from your wives during menstruation in
[19:26]terms of physical intimacy and do not approach them until they are
[19:33]pure and when they have purified themselves then come to them from
[19:37]where Allah has ordained for you indeed Allah loves those who are
[19:42]constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves so I'm seeing that
[19:47]this first issue that Imam has raised is that there's definitely a
[19:56]number of days let's say at the beginning of the month there's
[19:59]definitely a number of days in which we're gonna realize that the
[20:03]female cannot pray and cannot fast the male is praying and fasting
[20:12]in that period but the female is not allowed to go down
[20:14]and watch up Salah and the female is not allowed to fasten
[20:18]the holy mother of Ramadan when the whole world is fasting that
[20:21]is Allah's creation of the female those who say that this sermon
[20:27]is authentic are saying what's contradictory here with the Quran is highlighting
[20:34]the makeup of the female he is trying to show that as
[20:40]much as Aisha is the wife of rasulullah there remains in the
[20:45]Quran a number of areas that can in one way or the
[20:51]other be applied to her irrespective if you're gonna take her as
[20:56]your leader have you forgotten that even Salah and Psalm she cannot
[21:00]do irrespective of her being the wife of rasulullah irrespective of her
[21:08]position she will be in a state where she cannot go into
[21:11]worship and an Imam massum male leader can we know that the
[21:22]laws of menstruation apply to the extent you have to repeat your
[21:25]fasts but you don't have to repeat your prayers the laws of
[21:30]menstruation dictate that cannot be done if she isn't her monthly cycle
[21:37]the laws of menstruation dictate that there is a number of menstrual
[21:41]cycles that may take place or have to take place or have
[21:46]to finish until a person's idea is complete see how many laws
[21:50]are built on that area therefore if Imam according to that school
[21:56]that says there's nothing wrong with the sermon Imam saying that women
[22:01]are deficient in faith because Imam according to that particular group is
[22:07]saying that in that few days of the month can you really
[22:10]tell me that that lady can go down and do Salah like
[22:14]the men are doing at that time you all admit that in
[22:19]shahad Ramadan there is a time in which that lady and that's
[22:21]why we shouldn't judge if I see a lady in the holy
[22:24]month of Ramadan eating I shouldn't say oh my God look at
[22:27]her she's eating she may easily be in her monthly cycle at
[22:30]that particular period so Imam when he says women are deficient in
[22:38]what in faith because of what because the abstention of prayers or
[22:42]the abstention from present fasting during their menstrual period Imam is not
[22:46]saying something that a Muslim can say is contradictory to the Quran
[22:50]in the sense of the fact that the Quran says that there
[22:54]is a period of abstention from prayer and from fasting not in
[22:59]our opinion but in the biological makeup of the female as regards
[23:08]their deficiency in their intelligence it is because the evidence of two
[23:17]women is equal to that of one man longest Ayah in the
[23:19]Quran everyone at home please go to it Surah 2 verse 282
[23:25]of the Quran ayat Den is the longest Ayah of the Quran
[23:28]I'm amazed when you find out people owe each other money and
[23:33]have a punch up and a fight when the longest I in
[23:34]the Quran is about that collection deal and how much loan you
[23:40]have taken from someone writing it down the longest Ayah longest I
[23:43]in the Quran is not Salah longest eye in the Quran is
[23:47]not fasting it's not Hajj it's about deaths loans and taking back
[23:50]money go to Surah 2 verse 282 of the Quran what do
[23:56]you find you find Allah and this Ayah I'm telling you many
[23:58]brothers would not have a punch up with each other many cousins
[24:02]would not fight each other many would not have issues with each
[24:04]other about who owes who money and when you owe me look
[24:09]what the Ayah says the Ayah says oh you who have believed
[24:11]when you contract a debt for a specified term write it down
[24:16]yeah I mean I don't care if you're my mate 200 pounds
[24:20]I've taken from you you've taken from me write it down don't
[24:24]say but he's my boy he's my friend Wallah sometimes your own
[24:28]brother will stab you in the back sometimes your own cousin will
[24:30]say I can't remember any of our deals or you who believe
[24:34]when you contract the dead for a specified term write it down
[24:37]and let's subscribe write it between you and justice let someone be
[24:43]the one who's writing it someone who someone who the Quran says
[24:50]let no scribe refuse to write as Allah has taught him so
[24:54]let him write and let the one who has the obligation dictate
[24:58]what's written and let him fail Allah his law did not leave
[25:01]anything out but if the one who has the obligation is of
[25:06]limited understanding or weak or unable to dictate himself then let his
[25:10]Guardian dictate Injustice and bring to witness to Witnesses from amongst the
[25:16]men divorce can happen in family can happen in community can happen
[25:23]in marriage we normally love to bring two witnesses for talaq and
[25:28]marriage sometimes I need two witnesses before a falak happens in money
[25:31]community and family Quran said bring two witnesses from who from amongst
[25:37]your men but then the Quran said and if there are not
[25:39]true Men available then a man and true woman from Those whom
[25:46]you accept as Witnesses so that if one of the woman is
[25:49]then the other can remind her says they have a deficiency in
[25:58]their intelligence the school that said there is no issue with this
[26:02]authenticity of this they turned around and mentioned an important point they
[26:07]said what's Imam Ali said that contradicts what Allah has said about
[26:11]the female but if you wanted to understand it Fuller deeper Imam
[26:17]is mentioned it in the context of people who have taken a
[26:21]female as their ultimate source while there is a male whose masum
[26:28]forget nail listen it could be a male sinner male father no
[26:32]there's a male whose masum opposite to someone who however religious she
[26:38]looks she still falls under the category that's in difficult cases she
[26:45]may forget or she may find difficulties in reaching a conclusion I
[26:50]ask you all a question I don't care how strong some females
[26:56]are that I know in my life they'll still always ask their
[26:58]best friend when they're about to make a big decision yeah I
[27:01]mean said you but she's the biggest boss she's the biggest manager
[27:04]she's the biggest in the hospital she's the biggest pharmacist when it's
[27:09]a big decision she'll call and ask a friend tense moment call
[27:13]and ask a friend sometimes nervous call and ask a friend now
[27:16]someone will say males do that as well we do but we
[27:20]could also be very rough with our decisions a female Allah created
[27:23]her with certain instincts which are gentle instincts which may be maternal
[27:27]instincts which are emotional these are not negatives but rather they can
[27:36]be negatives if one's emotion overtakes their intelligence or if one finds
[27:43]a pressure situation has made them rash Jamil how many died seventeen
[27:47]thousand seventeen thousand people died in this battle the wife of the
[27:52]Prophet peace be upon's family even men couldn't get through to advising
[27:56]her and when she wanted to listen to advice she looked at
[27:59]herself as the main decision maker the reality of this verse about
[28:05]two witnesses was that in a pressure situation look today is not
[28:08]like the past in the past for example we didn't have ladies
[28:14]who were in Arabia hedge fund managers investment bankers in charge of
[28:18]for example massive law firms in those days even say that would
[28:21]argue that she was middle class or middle upper class yes when
[28:28]it comes to say that she was not the wealthiest but he
[28:33]even said the Khadijah there weren't many like her who you would
[28:38]ask come to be a witness in an issue listen I could
[28:39]be a male you asked me to come and be a witness
[28:42]between two friends of mine I'll be nervous oh I'll be anxious
[28:44]that one of my friends is not going to be happy with
[28:47]me today because I've testified and I'm telling you there have been
[28:49]so many cases I've been involved in when two people fighting over
[28:53]money you give that opinion forward I don't think that's what I
[28:55]talk with you anymore so how about Allah saying for the female
[29:00]in the Quran bring a second witness so it may help this
[29:03]person's situation it's not a negative rather it is speaking according to
[29:09]the natural makeup of that particular creation of Allah therefore when Imam
[29:16]is saying here as regards deficiency in their intelligence it is because
[29:22]the evidence of two women is equal to that of one man
[29:27]Imam saying firstly you people have all gone behind this lady have
[29:32]you forgotten the Quran if you want to compare ibadat between me
[29:36]and her I'm not the one who has days off from prayer
[29:40]and fasting and nor am I the one affected by a biological
[29:46]situation look if we have to come to a conclusion you come
[29:48]to a conclusion that they say Men Are from Mars and women
[29:51]are from Venus and you have books like this and you have
[29:53]people saying that I'm you know there was these things they they
[29:58]have initials for you know MPS or PMS when the lady is
[30:01]for example in her monthly cycle and she feels a major difficulty
[30:05]um even a temperament change even reaching a level where she could
[30:11]be very frustrated and angry on areas which she's not normally angry
[30:15]now imagine if you could get angry over areas you're not normally
[30:17]angry what happens if you decide that the man who's become the
[30:19]fourth Khalifa someone who you've hated for the last 35 years of
[30:26]your existence and now he's become Khalifa what exactly will happen in
[30:29]your head what you gonna do you imagine that if the man
[30:34]who's become Khalifa is someone you despise as she despised him from
[30:37]the days of rasulullah because you know some people say the whole
[30:42]incident of the if and what happened with Surah to Noor and
[30:47]Aisha being accused of adultery and people saying that Imam told the
[30:50]prophet to divorce and they say that okay no problem although I
[30:53]reject the story but no problem let's say the story is true
[30:55]if the story is true that shows from the time of the
[30:59]if until the time of German let's say 30 years how much
[31:03]if you have hate for someone now you imagine if for example
[31:05]at that particular period your temperament has changed you're full of Venom
[31:08]you're full of anger you want to take it out you are
[31:13]ready to get all the men in town to be alongside you
[31:17]fighting the opposition not caring if the opposition is the Battle of
[31:22]Jamal being very open because imagine they wanted to kill whoever was
[31:26]in front of them what they did in Basra on the way
[31:31]to the battle what they did with Usman the governor Brothers two
[31:41]of the most loyal companions what they did and the others and
[31:48]upon the orders of Aisha and others that was one of the
[31:56]worst moments but who was their leader who was the leader riding
[31:59]the camel the camel was the symbol of that movement and the
[32:03]symbol of the battle of German Imam and those who believe that
[32:10]this sermon is authentic hold on a minute you guys have forgotten
[32:14]you guys have forgotten my Imam you guys have forgotten you guys
[32:22]have forgotten you guys have forgotten you guys have forgotten um forget
[32:28]all of that this has come down to basic makeup biologically between
[32:34]us and the female here is someone who in her worship there
[32:39]are days she does not worship I am the one who never
[32:40]misses a second of worship and here is someone who even as
[32:45]a witness there could be a question mark about her testimonies can
[32:48]there be a question mark over my testimony this is those who
[32:51]purport that the sermon is authentic then he says as for their
[32:57]deficiency or the deficiency of their shares that is because of their
[33:00]share and inheritance being half of their men can any Muslim deny
[33:03]this that the share of inheritance of the female is half of
[33:07]the men of course there are certain situations I must make clear
[33:10]of course the difference between fathers mothers wives children and the laws
[33:14]of inheritance can differ of course but let's say I go to
[33:18]a Surah like Surah 4 verse number 11 on the Quran is
[33:20]what Imam Ali saying contradicts you to the Quran Surah 4 verse
[33:23]number 11 Allah says Allah instructs you concerning your children for the
[33:29]male what is equal to the share of two females now for
[33:33]the male what is equal to the share of two females if
[33:36]some who believe that the sermon is not authentic because he says
[33:44]that it contradicts the worldview of the Quran now those of the
[33:48]Maharaja who said that the sermon is authentic they said hold on
[33:50]a minute the Quran is the one who says that the share
[33:54]of the female is half of the male so why is there
[33:59]an issue with what Imam Islam says to Imam Ali those who
[34:01]believe this sermon is authentic is saying what he's saying that look
[34:08]we know very well that part of the nature of the female
[34:11]was also and part of Islamic law was also that the male
[34:16]and the female are the male is obliged to maintain protect take
[34:20]care of the female in the Quran again if a person wants
[34:25]to be very blatant with verses in the Quran go to Surah
[34:28]4 of the Quran verse number 34 so the same Surah if
[34:31]you go to verse number 34 of the Quran what does the
[34:33]Quran say Bismillah that men are in charge of women men are
[34:40]the Protectors of women what men are the maintainers of women what
[34:44]does it mean many give different opinions I know that I read
[34:51]in the first line of Italy what is it Allah what we
[35:04]understand from this Ayah men are the maintainers men are the protectors
[35:09]men are the carers that means the female may be in her
[35:15]General nature or propensity or disposition is towards a male figure protecting
[35:20]a male figure looking after a male figure maintaining now someone might
[35:24]say to me say no but we're in 2023 look I'm only
[35:27]looking at when this sermon originally is done those who believe the
[35:31]sermon is authentic push the idea and say Surah 4 verse 34
[35:37]112 um solo 2 verse 282 they say how many more verses
[35:42]do you need Imam to corroborate to highlight that you are following
[35:47]the army of a woman when you know in the Quran the
[35:49]woman's testimony is half of the man you know the Quran the
[35:54]woman needs to be cared for and maintained and therefore the man
[35:56]is the one who gets more of the inheritance because you have
[35:57]that duty to maintain and to protect the female you know in
[36:02]the Quran that Allah mentions clearly that there is a menstrual cycle
[36:05]a monthly period the temporal mechanism change in this period they're not
[36:09]even obliged to pray it is a burden that they cannot handle
[36:14]in this period with all of this they say that Imam is
[36:17]not contradicting the Quran Imam Ali is not saying the female cannot
[36:21]reach the highest level spiritually she can but there is a certain
[36:29]level which may be affected for example in that menstrual period which
[36:34]the male is not affected by or socially there are certain things
[36:39]where the male has a responsibility that the female doesn't there are
[36:46]certain even employment or jobs or even physical makeup of the mail
[36:50]that differs from the female but what those who propose that this
[36:54]sermon is authentic their main argument is that Imam is referring to
[37:03]the difference between leadership of a female and Leadership of a male
[37:06]not woman in the sense of a female for example never came
[37:13]out and fought say the Fatima never came out and thought that
[37:17]doesn't mean that you couldn't have the greatest ladies in the world
[37:20]who were at home who were maternal who looked after the children
[37:23]who were caregivers let me make something very clear your wife doesn't
[37:26]have to clean for you nor does she have to cook for
[37:29]you that is not a right on males out there where they
[37:33]expect Imam never thought about himself used to sweep the floor at
[37:36]home used to give water uh collect the water at home used
[37:38]to collect firewood at Home Father what does the heart may get
[37:42]the door and she may bake it and grind the weeds used
[37:45]to also help his wife at home never be someone who's like
[37:50]you know what I'm the man because someone might use this sermon
[37:53]and say you see Imam Ali says you guys are all deficient
[38:01]a person can come back and say what a person in our
[38:03]culture might say you know what I'm the man of the house
[38:06]no no Imam here according to those who say this sermon's authentic
[38:10]they say that is showing the comparison between leader and a non-muslim
[38:17]leader and especially a non-massum leader who's a female look we've had
[38:21]some great female leaders even the sort of in the Quran the
[38:26]Queen of Sheba she's a phenomenal leader she's the lady of a
[38:29]great temperament but she sees Suleiman Aisha had reached the level of
[38:35]a stand against Imam she did not view him as someone worthy
[38:41]of being her leader so mola literally said wait hold on biologically
[38:47]in the eyes of Allah whether it's in worship whether it's social
[38:52]or whether it's in financial or leadership or management Society Allah has
[38:57]discussed all of the females with a particular standard but for you
[39:04]to think with that standard you can be a leader against Amazon
[39:08]and cause the deaths of seventeen thousand people that is not something
[39:13]that I will accept that is not something that I will go
[39:17]with therefore that's one school what do they continue beware when when
[39:23]it continues Beware of the evils of woman they say when Iman
[39:25]says Beware of the evil yes if there's a woman who stands
[39:27]against imagine Imam imagine he's alive and there's a lady who wants
[39:33]to fight him then Beware of the evils of that lady be
[39:37]on your God even from those of them who are reportedly good
[39:42]because everybody said she is the wife she is the wife of
[39:46]rasulullah be on your God even from the one like her who
[39:50]is reportedly good and Allah this could apply to all you could
[39:53]have a lady in our community today who may be very religious
[39:58]but she may be a backbiter gossiper hater she may be somebody
[40:01]my way or the highway if you don't come to Myasthenia you're
[40:06]not one of us if you don't come to my mosque you're
[40:07]not one of us then that person purportedly is good but be
[40:10]on your God from them do not obey them even in good
[40:12]things so they may not attract you to evil therefore those who
[40:18]propose this particular line they said what's wrong what's the issue unless
[40:22]you have an issue with the Quran because the Quran is the
[40:25]one who said when a lady is in a menstrual cycle she
[40:27]is not in a stage of Purity the Quran is the same
[40:31]book that said a lady is witnessing is half of that of
[40:34]the man the Quran is the one don't say authentic the Quran
[40:39]itself is saying that men are the maintainers of woman and that
[40:42]men have to look after woman and hence the inheritance of the
[40:44]woman is half of the man so they say when you say
[40:49]I have a problem with this sermon would you say the same
[40:55]about those Ayers of the Quran oh no now that's one side
[40:58]the other side which we said amongst them they said our problem
[41:04]with this sermon comes from a number of angles said the first
[41:09]angle it comes from if Imam Ali Allah why does he make
[41:13]it General because if you all go to sermon I think 13
[41:16]of natural when Imam Ali wants to talk about her he's very
[41:22]open in sermon 13 of natural Imam blatantly says when he is
[41:28]referring to her he says you are the army of a woman
[41:30]and in the command of a quadrupt quadruped for Camel yep when
[41:37]it grumbled you responded and when it was wounded you fled away
[41:42]your character is low and your pledge is broken your faith is
[41:45]hypocrisy look how mola is very clear that I don't like those
[41:50]who are fighting me at the Battle of German your water is
[41:52]brackish he who stays with you is Laden with sins and he
[41:57]who forsakes you secures Allah's Mercy when Imam Ali therefore those who
[42:03]say this sermon they don't believe it they say Imam Ali clearly
[42:06]said o Army of a woman in this one he says oh
[42:12]people beware women are all a Woman They say here is true
[42:17]General secondly they say what's the deficiency what's the problem of the
[42:23]deficiency in a female if she has a menstrual cycle or she's
[42:27]second Witness or she for example is the one who collects half
[42:32]of the inheritance what's that deficiency they say Allah says male and
[42:36]female can reach the highest spiritual goals together and so if Allah
[42:42]has many eyes like the eye on Surah 33 verse number 35
[42:45]of the Quran Allah makes it clear in relation to both male
[42:50]and female and many of you have read this Ayah before Allah
[42:55]what does he says Allah didn't say I cannot put the two
[43:18]of you together because you are on your period you are not
[43:20]so that's their second argument their third argument that they posit is
[43:25]that they say Imam is too General and that means if it's
[43:30]only about to say but you're giving reasons that apply to all
[43:36]women our fourth argument they give is that this particular sermon where
[43:41]is it narrated sometimes a natural you'll see that you may be
[43:48]referred to other sources so if there's a sermon in natural and
[43:52]it's been narrated in another book they'll normally write you can find
[43:57]it here here they say look al-kuleni narrates the question is narrate
[44:05]the whole of this the answer is seemingly narrates a part of
[44:15]the not the beginning so look the beginning which says oh people
[44:19]woman are deficient in faith deficient and shares deficient intelligence as regards
[44:24]the divisions in their faith it is their abstention from present fast
[44:26]and two-dimensional periods as regards the issues in the intelligence because the
[44:30]evidence of two women is equal to that of one man as
[44:32]for the vicious of their shares that is because of their share
[44:35]and inheritance being half of men they say he doesn't narrate all
[44:38]of this yes the last part of it says be on your
[44:43]God even from those who are reportedly good um do not obey
[44:47]them even in good things so that they may not trust you
[44:51]they say that part has narrated it's interesting that when you look
[44:55]at the sermon and certain copies of natural underneath it says also
[44:58]in El kafi of Korea but does it say part of it
[45:03]it says just in El kafi which would make you think oh
[45:07]my God if this is an El kafi then I must take
[45:13]it because remember what we said is not a book that has
[45:17]sought to collect a Hadith on the basis of their authenticity a
[45:20]rigidness in understanding their origin and their authenticity and their reliability like
[45:27]maybe a work like a colonies because it is looking for what
[45:40]is the most eloquent what is the most eloquent of the sermons
[45:45]of Imam so they say that when you look at this sometimes
[45:49]someone might um say that this is um a work that you
[45:54]could find in alcafi I go to oh they say in the
[45:57]Amali you might find it again we don't see the whole sermon
[46:00]there we may even see the sermon in Sunni literature but when
[46:07]I go to you know for example or I go for example
[46:12]to other works I think the test killer as well has it
[46:16]when you go to those Sunni works or to other works you'll
[46:21]see that it doesn't say this is from Imam Ali alaihissalam so
[46:26]therefore where's it from if those Works have not given us the
[46:31]first part of the sermon from Imam Ali so where is it
[46:33]from has it come maybe from another companion of rasulullah another of
[46:39]the scholars who denied the authenticity of the sermon his opinion was
[46:42]Imam Ali in other parts of his life praises the uncle and
[46:47]the intelligence of woman why here would he attack what we really
[46:50]see happening with all of this is number one I don't think
[46:56]we're ever gonna please everybody with the answer there is definitely going
[46:59]to be a group will be like this is an attack on
[47:02]females who have become so arrogant against the Imam of their time
[47:09]that the Imam has reminded the people don't forget one thing the
[47:14]Quran has said these these could affect that lady who you people
[47:18]are all behind because they were literally besotted by her you know
[47:21]in the Battle of Jamal um the camel was literally the standard
[47:27]that everyone had to uh defend were a group of people who
[47:35]were defending around the camel Muhammad went towards them to attack them
[47:39]couldn't get through he came back to imam's side when he came
[47:41]back as he was coming back Imam al-hasan took the spear from
[47:45]him with the spear Imam al-hasan went right through the whole tribe
[47:49]got to the camel him and Malik al-ashtar ended up stabbing that
[47:53]Camel bringing the camel down until Aisha fell into the labs of
[47:56]Muhammad when Abu Bakr who was her brother in the army of
[47:59]Imam the only man who could hold her but what's clear is
[48:05]that that Army was besotted by a lady who as much as
[48:10]she was revealed of course many people ask us Shia why don't
[48:13]you Revere Aisha the way the Sunni Community does and our main
[48:16]premise is that firstly a wife of a prophet is not always
[48:21]somebody who's the greatest we see Lord and Noah's wives in the
[48:24]Quran but that secondly as well if she fights a little bait
[48:29]whether it's Imam is however then for us our premise is that
[48:31]anyone who fights a little bait fights rasulullah fights Allah at the
[48:36]end of the day the Battle of German even if someone tells
[48:39]me with 2020 Vision hindsight that later on people say this is
[48:42]the opinion of those who want to look out from the angle
[48:46]and their own angle that Imam Ali forgave her but how could
[48:48]someone lead thousands towards death which mother wants to see her children
[48:59]dead and so one side are adamant that these points are in
[49:02]a way a stab against those who have taken the female in
[49:08]her position as virtually a social Khalifa Leader by reminding that since
[49:12]when did God's prophets when were they ever female and why were
[49:17]they never female uh it's almost never female nor Ibrahim Musa the
[49:21]holy prophet if there was ever an argument that was made say
[49:27]that some tried to say because she received a sort of Revelation
[49:29]and she spoke to Angels therefore she may be a nabia for
[49:33]example but at most in a way a person turned around and
[49:37]said then why should this lady become a leader all of a
[49:40]sudden when Allah had always not put a female's the leader whereas
[49:44]the other side say hold on why should I believe that everything
[49:48]attributed to Imam Ali in here is Imam Ali maybe that wasn't
[49:53]Imam Ali's words and that's among some Scholars who people straight away
[49:57]will say I bet you that person's a feminist if they believe
[49:59]that at the end of the day that scholar has his research
[50:03]other Scholars have their research as well but there's an important point
[50:07]to realize here and that is when we come to Identity in
[50:12]Islam gender is not the main criteria the main criteria is taqwa
[50:18]let's not forget in this world of fighting over feminist literature gender
[50:23]literature gender literary criticism authenticity understanding the idea of different feminine feminine
[50:32]archetypes and different feminist academics throughout history and whether the patriarch or
[50:37]The Matriarch is in charge of what's Happening we need to remember
[50:40]one thing today people are defining each other by race some by
[50:48]sexual preference some by gender we in Islam and Allah the best
[50:51]amongst you in the eyes of Allah is the one with the
[50:56]most taqwa nobody could elaborate on taqwa like Imam and anyone who
[51:01]fights him is fighting taqwa is fighting Iman it's fighting it's fighting
[51:07]therefore both sides have their arguments ultimately there will be a day
[51:16]insha Allah we find out whether these were the words all they
[51:19]want but all we can do is try and look at the
[51:24]different angles that approach such an issue and what could be the
[51:29]reasons that Imam Ali may have been so damning in his opinion
[51:31]was it for a particular person or was it an attribution thank
[51:36]you all for listening and on this day as you know is
[51:38]the day that we have released our documentary on said and it's
