[22:00][Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] oh [Music] after attending his bsc
[24:31]in computer science from city university brother sun attained a masters in
[24:35]business systems analysis and then a phd in social business process management
[24:41]having written many publications in this area alongside this he commenced his
[24:49]hosa studies in 2004 and received his masters in islamic studies from
[24:51]the islamic college he's also served as the national chairman for ius
[24:57]the islamic community society amongst many other roles and accomplishments it is
[25:01]our pleasure to host him this evening can i ask you all
[25:07]to please welcome him with aladdin mohammed hello [Music] you don't mind
[25:56]just one minute muhammad [Music] but once again i think after three
[26:59]four years i've had the opportunity to be amongst this blessed gathering
[27:05]and blessed community and i would like to congratulate you all on
[27:11]the auspicious occasion of the birth anniversary of the holy prophet and
[27:17]the sixth alarm and we ask allah on this blessed night to
[27:24]make us amongst the true companions and true followers of the prophet
[27:30]and the sixth amendment reflecting upon the life of the messenger of
[27:39]god there are different characteristics and different dimensions that his personality can
[27:44]be assessed and analyzed however when you look at the quran and
[27:48]when you look at history and when you look at the art
[27:54]you find there is one main characteristic which by far supersedes and
[27:59]is more highlighted than any other characteristics of the prophets of course
[28:06]the prophet can be looked at as a father as a husband
[28:11]as a messenger as a son as a brother as the father
[28:14]of the orphans as a neighbor as the ab than the servant
[28:20]of allah and he had many roles when it's whether it is
[28:23]social whether it's political whether it's spiritual however this one characteristic which
[28:32]outweighs and is highlighted amongst all of his different characteristics is the
[28:38]following in which says [Music] the mercy of the messenger of god
[28:49]is the highlight of his personality of his characteristic and that is
[28:57]why the quran amongst the different characteristics he had wisdom as well
[29:02]he had knowledge as well but the one which is highlighted that
[29:04]i have sent you as what has mercy to the whole of
[29:09]all i mean which i will speak about also we have in
[29:14]the quran that allah says again something else which is accompanied with
[29:24]this is the morality of rasulullah now sometimes it's you and i
[29:30]saying that someone is great but sometimes there's allah subhanahu tahadah saying
[29:34]that this person is great and allah once mentioned something in the
[29:39]quran it's not an exaggeration it is not an inaccurate statement it's
[29:44]not an emotional quality that is attributing no this is what is
[29:51]really meant so what i would like to discuss in this evening
[29:54]is a bit about what we mean by what does it mean
[30:00]that the prophet is a mercy to allah and what is it
[30:04]that you and i can learn from this you know there's one
[30:08]dimension that we speak about are among them so mean saying how
[30:12]great they were but the other important point which is more important
[30:18]is that how you and i can implement and take those on
[30:21]board and make a change in our lives otherwise if i just
[30:25]say okay he's good he's good he's good he's good what about
[30:28]me how am i changing my life so reflecting upon this verse
[30:36]that um what is the meaning of allah mean anything through which
[31:03]knowledge is attained is referred to as allah and in this context
[31:12]we are speaking about the knowledge of allah the mother of allah
[31:17]therefore any creation that through that creation you come to know allah
[31:25]more you gain the mouth of allah that is allah [Music] is
[31:43]known through that we say the whole creation is a sign and
[31:49]through this creation will come to realize who allah is based on
[31:56]our limited capacity based on our limited understanding now this is one
[32:03]interpretation of the mufasa mention the other interpretation is is those creations
[32:12]which have knowledge those creations which have knowledge which essentially includes mankind
[32:20]and gen and the mathematician mankind gen and the media so these
[32:26]are the two different interpretations of one is the whole creation even
[32:34]vegetation even the material realm the other one no it is limited
[32:41]to the human beings to their angels and to the child whatever
[32:44]the case may be the scope of this is great that many
[32:49]of us sometimes we think or at least the way it's portrayed
[32:54]is that we think the messenger of god is only for us
[32:57]it's only for the muslims it's only for the shia but no
[33:00]this is not the statement there is nowhere that the message of
[33:07]the prophet the responsibility of the prophet the mercy and the knowledge
[33:11]and the giving and the compassion and the love of the prophet
[33:16]is limited to any sect to any religion to any denomination it
[33:21]is a universal one that anyone and everyone is the recipient of
[33:31]the guidance the knowledge the mercy of the holy prophet muhammad and
[33:41]when we speak about the mercy of the messenger of god in
[33:47]reality that is a glimpse of the mercy of allah because the
[33:55]quran mentions that whatever the holy prophet embodies and manifests whether in
[34:04]actions whether in speech is what is why my underlying power so
[34:09]all of the different characteristics and the sabbath and the attributes of
[34:14]the messenger of god is given and inspired by god himself therefore
[34:18]if this is the mercy of the prophet now this is just
[34:27]a manifestation of how allah subhanahu ta'ala showers his mercy now this
[34:38]is a brief summary of what we mean by now opening up
[34:48]the concept of rahma and mercy who do you need to be
[34:54]merciful to who was the prophet merciful to how are we how
[34:56]are we supposed to be mercy of course this is a big
[35:00]topic but i'll mention three main categories and give some examples of
[35:05]those and hopefully we can take these and take a glimpse and
[35:08]a fragrance of this attribute of the prophet and try to implement
[35:12]it now there are three different dimensions that you and i and
[35:18]the holy prophet was and we should be merciful the first area
[35:26]is we need to have mercy upon ourselves number two the second
[35:34]category is that we need to show mercy towards the rest of
[35:42]the creation the rest of the creation so what i mean by
[35:49]creation is the environment what i mean by creation is the animals
[35:54]number two and number three we need to show mercy on the
[36:00]rest of humanity right so mercy upon ourselves number one number two
[36:05]mercy for the rest of humanity and number three mercy among the
[36:11]rest of creation which includes non-humans this is the extent and the
[36:19]scope of what we mean by the mercy of rasulullah and the
[36:23]mercy of allah now before we go through these three different categories
[36:29]there is one important point also to realize that of two types
[36:47]there's a big difference between these two more compassionate and merciful maybe
[36:52]the subtlety when you translate it is not highlighted much but in
[36:58]arabic when you're explaining rahman and there is a big difference is
[37:03]that general type of mercy of god which applies and includes the
[37:11]whole of creation everyone and everything not just everyone everyone and everything
[37:17]the whole creation whether you accept him as god or not whether
[37:22]you're muslim or not whether you have religion or not doesn't make
[37:27]a difference so it covers everyone animals vegetation the environment everything benefits
[37:36]from the general type of mercy right the one who doesn't even
[37:42]believe in god is consuming the mercy of god consuming the sustenance
[37:46]of god the animal the sheep and here the horses and different
[37:50]cows we got here on the way i found so many different
[37:53]um in the fields and i was making my daughter a bit
[37:58]engaged with everything you have in this beautiful sceneries all being the
[38:02]recipient of the mercy of god how are they surviving how are
[38:06]they breathing the organs how everything is working perfectly even in the
[38:12]animal kingdom this is what is general rahman the second type of
[38:22]mercy of god is the second type of mercy is that there
[38:32]are individuals who respond who accept who recognize the general mercy of
[38:40]god right and then they move towards him and god gives them
[38:45]even more so it's a special type of mercy the first one
[38:52]you say you're lacking that your mercy which encompasses that it covers
[39:01]every single thing right first second is that specific type of difference
[39:08]i teach at university university you have 300 people at the beginning
[39:15]the first few years and then second year third year masters you
[39:18]know 300 becomes 50.
[39:22]now you teach everyone now these massive lecture theaters i know i
[39:27]can see the people who are on whatsapp people on facebook they're
[39:30]people but i don't deprive them of that i'm delivering my lecture
[39:36]i'm going through my slides there are some people who are listening
[39:39]and some people don't listen but my teaching the general type of
[39:43]teaching which i'm offering just give an example so we understand it
[39:48]and more it covers everyone whether the person in the imagine is
[39:52]here that's listening or not doesn't make a difference now the second
[39:56]type of mercy is like what is that after that lecture finishes
[40:00]after that seminar finishes there are some students who convert forward and
[40:07]they start asking questions right they want to dig deeper or after
[40:13]a lecture i like to different places sometimes after they come ask
[40:18]a question can i have your number what other other lessons can
[40:22]i attend right now of course that person will start benefiting more
[40:26]it's a specific type of teaching for example benefit the same way
[40:33]with god he does not discriminate between the creation everyone takes but
[40:40]then of course those who yearn more those who strive more those
[40:44]who cultivate their heart prepare the grounds for receiving more they and
[40:53]if we do not receive more is the problem is from us
[40:57]the problem is from us the sun is shining now if i
[41:02]come in a room and i cover myself and i say i
[41:05]don't get any sun whose problem is this my problem i'm covering
[41:08]myself with a sheet with something and i say where is the
[41:13]sun i'll remove this so we need to ensure that we fix
[41:21]our receivers in any case so we come back to these three
[41:28]different categories of mercy number one we need to have mercy upon
[41:35]ourselves we need to have mercy upon ourselves many of us we
[41:46]don't have mercy upon ourselves we don't look after ourselves now some
[41:52]people physically don't look after as well spiritually some people only physically
[41:57]they look after themselves and spiritually they're left out if you want
[42:01]to have mercy upon your soul you want to have mercy on
[42:05]your body you need to look after it are two dimensions number
[42:11]one physically physically and this is mainly for the younger brothers and
[42:15]sisters because when i was younger i thought this body is going
[42:20]to work non-stop it's not going to start feeling pain it's not
[42:24]going to you know start breaking down for the elders no that's
[42:27]when he gets a bit older and all of the things which
[42:32]was fine you would run around without drink without food you would
[42:34]go and nothing will happen at the beginning but then after a
[42:38]few years you find that this body is not the same anymore
[42:40]you know when you're 20 the strength is something that 30 40.
[42:45]so what is important is that throughout this time you're looking after
[42:50]your body now how your nutritionists are great manager with all the
[42:54]busy lives they have i know many of them the schedule for
[42:59]their exercise is that some day some three times a week some
[43:06]twice a week walking swimming exercise stretches is there this is important
[43:14]because you need this mad cap you need this ride to take
[43:18]you in this 80 70 90 whatever year you're living in this
[43:21]world you need this body to take it but not as an
[43:25]end not as a goal right it's like you know you're on
[43:30]this ride if you're on your horse you're in a car from
[43:34]to get you from london to portsmouth when you get here for
[43:37]example you want to get established you don't need the car but
[43:42]you need to look after your car to get you from a
[43:46]to b not that halfway through you get stuck from the on
[43:50]the way so what is important number one and number two our
[43:56]spiritual well-being which unfortunately many of us neglect and we don't even
[44:03]realize that we're neglected yet we don't even realize so busy mundane
[44:10]day-to-day activities nine to five nine to five nine to five nine
[44:13]to five come home eat sleep nothing life's gone the year went
[44:22]i remember i think here i was three four years ago i
[44:27]remember every minute of it that i stepped into this place that's
[44:31]three four years gone where did it go [Music] your youth goals
[44:50]it's never going to come back no matter what you do and
[44:54]you don't realize that now you realize it when it's gone but
[45:00]look at the white and the gray hair of your fathers of
[45:05]your grandfather they were also young one day like you and of
[45:12]course everyone is young relative to the one who's old everyone is
[45:17]young relative to the one who's older that is why the messenger
[45:23]of god tells about that know the value and the worth of
[45:29]five things before five things number one it says know the value
[45:34]of your youth before you become old know the value of your
[45:38]wealth become you become poor know the value of your life because
[45:41]before you die know the value of your health before you lose
[45:47]it not the value don't let it easily pass by every day
[45:55]when you wake up at the end of the day assess yourselves
[46:02]how was my day what did i spend it in did i
[46:09]do something wrong if i did clear it up near it up
[46:12]did i break someone's heart did i wrong anyone did i upset
[46:17]anyone try to fix it the good that i've done you're grateful
[46:21]you're thankful try to be steadfast on the self very important number
[46:32]two the rest of humanity the rest of humanity you need to
[46:41]be the light the beacon of mercy and love wherever we live
[46:47]the same way that the holy prophet was the prophet people would
[46:52]come through the sultan they would throw rubbish on his head he
[47:02]would come and collect it and give it back and he would
[47:04]say that i don't want you to go through the trouble of
[47:06]collecting these thorns again there was that old lady and every day
[47:11]that prophet would go to the mosque she would come and throw
[47:15]rubbish on the blessed head of the prophet one day she doesn't
[47:17]come he asks about her they say she's become ill he goes
[47:24]and visits her a few dimensions when it comes to neighbors neighbors
[47:37]very important we have a tradition from rasulullah in tradition he says
[47:50][Music] the one who the one who sleeps full and his neighbor
[48:11]is which neighbor what religion any religion or no religion doesn't make
[48:19]a difference job neighbor doesn't matter what they believe what they don't
[48:28]believe in and that is why the rasulallah said that even advised
[48:34]me about neighbors so much that i started to think that they
[48:41]would inherit from us what inheritance was your true family members it
[48:51]doesn't go to random people on the street neighbors are so close
[48:58]that the prophet said that i started do we give this importance
[49:26]to our neighbors how many of our neighbors do we know do
[49:31]we ever go take a box of i don't want to say
[49:35]chocolate because i'm personally on diet i don't like to have these
[49:38]unhealthy stuff but take them i don't know a box of pomegranate
[49:42]grenade or something nice or often offer them to help them with
[49:49]carrying something or introducing myself have an old neighbor if you want
[49:54]to fix your fence i will come and fix it you want
[49:55]to take something inside i'll come and take commentator do we do
[50:01]these things this is the spirit of rasulullah in this tradition which
[50:05]i just read he mentions whoever now in the country whoever disturbs
[50:12]whoever disturbs his neighbor the land is upon him and whoever angers
[50:24]my household now look the one who upsets their neighbor has been
[50:46]put in power with doom whoever angers the ezra that i will
[50:54]debate that's a great statement this is one example the second example
[51:00]when it comes to parents when it comes to parents in another
[51:08]tradition rasulullah mentions says that it is not someone does not look
[51:27]at their parents with mercy and love except that for every glance
[51:35]upon our gifts for you for every look and then even if
[51:56]you look at your parents a hundred times a day because you
[51:59]know you look at them and then you go and you come
[52:02]back and look at them even a hundred times god responded and
[52:07]he said what what another day even if he was to look
[52:14]at their parents 100 000 times this is mercy this is innovation
[52:27]this is spirituality this is growth that your parents you respect them
[52:35]give them mercy you give them love and look at them with
[52:42]love and mercy i know when we're younger we don't realize when
[52:46]you start getting older when you have your own kids you start
[52:50]to realize when what your parents did for you and then when
[52:53]you lose them then you realize what you lost but then it's
[52:59]too late then it's too late so the quicker you realize it
[53:03]and i don't blame people who have not realized it yet but
[53:06]the quicker you realize it the quicker you are able to benefit
[53:13]from this great opportunity because no one's going to be your mind
[53:17]no one's going to give you that no one and that's why
[53:22]wants to give an example of the mercy of god it says
[53:26]that allah is more merciful to you than 70 times more than
[53:30]your mother why because they're probably the most loving creation towards you
[53:36]in this what is the mother the way she carried you the
[53:42]way you were the way she breastfed you the way that everything
[53:45]here sleeping eating drinking getting up getting down resting friends everything revolves
[53:53]around everything and now this child grows comes 18 19 20.
[54:00]as he goes to university finishes graduates he has his job he
[54:06]has his call [Music] now that is this fair that someone who's
[54:34]done so much for you has given so much to you just
[54:42]abandon them and neglect them it's one of the greatest libraries it's
[54:58]a great matcher he was in najaf at the beginning then he
[55:03]moved home 16 years he used to be the first person who
[55:07]would visit that late night freezing weather warned whether he would come
[55:12]outside the doors until they opened the door this person says that
[55:23]one day my mother my father was sleeping my mother asked me
[55:28]to go and call your father that the food is ready he
[55:31]goes and he finds that his father is sleeping he says okay
[55:36]i don't want to wake him up what he does he puts
[55:42]his cheeks and his face under the foot of his father that
[55:49]maybe very subtly he wakes him up without calling him without shaking
[55:55]him so i just you know his feet a bit realizes that
[55:57]someone's you know touching him he wakes up and at that moment
[56:02]he prays for his son he prays for him and that's paraphrasing
[56:09]he says that whatever i have reached in this world i've opened
[56:12]up a lot of the books over everything shall you go read
[56:18]about it that it is all because of that of my father
[56:22]because of that small subtle action that i didn't want to wake
[56:28]him up so this was point number two and point number three
[56:38]and these are just examples i'm giving my time is limited i'll
[56:41]move on to point number three which is about having mercy upon
[56:45]the rest of the creation primarily [Music] animals environment animals environment you
[56:58]know how much and how many rewards we have about perspective did
[57:07]you know that amongst the amongst those groups which are wajaba nafaka
[57:12]that you need to give them for example your wife you need
[57:16]to give that or you need to provide for that right is
[57:18]when you have a pet at home you can't get the peta
[57:21]home and not feed them you can't it is mentioned that some
[57:27]of them swing when they would go on a trip and they
[57:29]would come back before they would feed themselves they would feed their
[57:34]pets first it's a responsibility it's an obligation a donkey or a
[57:54]camera or something and they will put luggage on them so do
[58:00]not over burden them more than what they can take and your
[58:16]friends on a horse do not sit on that ride that you
[58:23]have and speak to each other unbounce speak why are you putting
[58:30]extra burden upon this animal it's beautiful isn't it and many many
[58:39]many other traditions as well and i'll read a few more traditions
[58:42]about the environment you know we have there are a few books
[58:47]islam and environments one just about the right of the environment upon
[58:56]us you know i look at this beautiful center outside every time
[59:00]i come it's like a paradise outside the greenery it's amazing and
[59:06]this is how it should be this is how it should be
[59:10]in one tradition we have and you probably haven't heard this tradition
[59:17]before if you plant a tree you plant something to plant something
[59:37]that from the fruits of this from whatever it gives either an
[59:45]animal or a bird or a human being benefits from and can
[59:49]eat from allah gives you and charity until the day of judgment
[59:57]planting something [Music] that because of this plant this tree that is
[60:18]fruit allah will give you reward as much as how much is
[60:23]given and another tradition there are a few things that after you
[60:25]die will stay for you one of them is what is kids
[60:29]that you're brought up one of them is one of them is
[60:31]that if you have planted a tree if you have planted a
[60:36]plant there's so much recommendation so important about the environment and of
[60:43]course about looking after them when you give them water or how
[60:46]you should not scratch them or lean against them this is all
[60:54]nurse so the summary of what we discussed was that amongst all
[61:00]of the different characteristics the messenger of god outweighs everything else the
[61:07]mercy of the prophet the mercy can be of two types general
[61:12]type of mercy specific type of mercy general does not discriminate showers
[61:16]upon everyone and everything specific or for those who are the recipient
[61:20]of the general one move forward they benefit more mercy on three
[61:24]different dimensions number one have mercy upon yourself look after your body
[61:28]and soul number two mercy upon the rest of humanity whether they're
[61:34]your parents whether they're your neighbors whether they're people in your community
[61:38]whether they are hereby your work number two and number three mercy
[61:45]upon the rest of the creation even the animal even the pet
[61:50]that you see outside even the dogs this is not how it
[61:58]should be the juror's potential rulings are there but as a creation
[62:01]of god you have other responsibilities as well we asked the true
[62:11]individuals who are able to represent this beautiful religion and shower our
[62:16]mercy upon everyone and everything inshallah um for accepting our invitation and
[63:24]gracing us for a fantastic lecture this evening we pray that allah
[63:27]gives you the document to continue to expand our knowledge and to
[63:31]continue to share it with our communities worldwide inshallah as a token
