[0:42]oh my muhammad [Music] al-mu'mineen our oppressed imam imam ali bin abiyah
[3:44]oh the discussion regarding the men and women surrounding the prophets and
[4:03]imams is a crucial discussion it's a discussion that gives us an
[4:08]insight to the characteristics of the prophets and imams for you would
[4:15]understand what the prophets and imams were dealing with let it be
[4:18]from the good companions or bad companions from the believing companions or
[4:26]from the hypocrites we see that allah emphasizes a lot about the
[4:33]community around the prophets in the quran he discusses for example the
[4:41]followers of musa the companions of musa isa the disciples of isa
[4:47]ali islam the companions of isa the people of thamud so we
[4:51]see that there's always a discussion regarding the community and the people
[4:57]around the prophets a few reasons for this is because we see
[5:01]that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wants to teach us how we interact
[5:10]with his authorities on earth so the authorities that he has chosen
[5:15]on earth for sometimes we see that the interaction is in a
[5:22]way that you think the person is literally only telling you to
[5:27]return back to allah subhanahu ta'ala telling you to purify your soul
[5:32]and we see that in many cases the communities of the prophets
[5:37]killed their prophets the companions we see some companions also try to
[5:48]assassinate rasulillah sallallahu alaihi ali he wasn't right so we see that
[5:54]it's important for us to discuss these individuals for after studying the
[6:00]biography of the prophets and imams these are the most important individuals
[6:05]to study why first to know if they're trustworthy or not so
[6:12]whatever they're narrating especially from the prophet sallallahu alaihi and the imams
[6:17]to see if whether they are trustworthy or not whether they are
[6:21]liars or not whether they were believers or not were they upon
[6:25]goodness or not and this is something crucial it also allows us
[6:31]to understand at what rank were these individuals were they the ones
[6:36]that loved amir al-mu'mineen was shaya but didn't aid amir mohammadi or
[6:42]were they people that claimed to love rasulullah but did not love
[6:49]rasulullah so these things are important and it's crucial that we investigate
[6:53]these individuals to understand have an in-depth understanding of the people around
[7:00]the prophet but my discussion today will be regarding the companions of
[7:10]amir al-mu'min alaihissalam but not just all of them no there's a
[7:16]specific category of them a specific group and i've realized that not
[7:23]many have discussed them especially in the english-speaking world and these are
[7:28]individuals that sacrifice themselves for us so that the deen of ali
[7:36]muhammad gets to us they were giving themselves for amir al-mu'mineen as
[7:42]if they were shields for amir and muhammad he is famous for
[7:55]his hadith work he also has a book called is famously known
[8:01]as now there is a discussion whether it was him his son
[8:05]his father there's a small discussion among the scholars but it seems
[8:11]that most um scholars go with the opinion that it is so
[8:17]he says when he starts to discuss so it's a book of
[8:21]he's all he does is in the book is he mentions companion
[8:24]of rasulullah then he mentions who they are the ones that have
[8:26]narrated in the hadith corpus the hadith corpus of the shia and
[8:31]then he would go to amir al-muniq but then he puts the
[8:36]cat he puts four categories for the companions of amir al-mu'mini the
[8:41]first he says the sahaba so those who are accompanied amir al-mu'manin
[8:46]it's a general one those who saw amir al-munin were with him
[8:53]accompanied him there could be good they could be bad as we
[8:57]see for example they are of those who rejected the caliphate of
[9:04]abu bakr and we see that later on what happened they went
[9:08]to war against emir so yes by definition by the linguistic understanding
[9:12]of sahaba yes they accompanied them the second the aspia the elect
[9:24]the aspia the third the only ah the guardians four which is
[9:30]the category that we want to discuss today so the elite gods
[9:41]the elite gods of amir al-mu'mineen now the word some depending on
[9:55]how you want to pronounce it but i lean more towards the
[10:00]opinion that it is and we will see why as we are
[10:06]discussing the this category of the companions of emir in s it's
[10:19]a book basically it's like a dictionary if you want to call
[10:22]it that where he basically discusses different words he brings you for
[10:28]example um what the the arabs the arabs of the quraish of
[10:33]mecca poems and things like to prove basically what a specific word
[10:36]means he says it means the elite battalion of the army that
[10:46]is first to attack and ready for death so shurpa is basically
[10:55]the first and elite battalion that is ready to attack the their
[11:01]enemies their opponents it means the five battalions now this is crucial
[11:12]here the five battalions al-khanis so the front of the army the
[11:19]back of the army the right of the army the left of
[11:22]the army and the heart of the army amir used to spread
[11:31]out the elite guards so he used to put some in the
[11:36]front right left back and the heart now scholars have also mentioned
[11:42]that remember we said this basically they say that it's the ones
[11:49]that have a sign you can say some type of if you
[11:54]want to call it uniform or some type of that will show
[11:57]that you are from an elite type of gods now we will
[12:07]discuss this this sign of the elite gods in time to come
[12:10]inshallah as we are gone with the lecture alibi a companion of
[12:16]imam and imam al-jawad now he is someone that's considered to be
[12:20]trustworthy have praised him and he has a hadith or a reporting
[12:27]he says he says that it's mentioned in he says the commander
[12:33]of the faithful said to his companions pledge your allegiance for your
[12:38]allegiance is for heaven you are not pledging allegiance for gold and
[12:47]silver we ashi are here today we're not here to pledge allegiance
[12:50]to amir al-munin just like the companions of amir among that lived
[12:53]with him that lived in his time we're not here for gold
[12:59]and silver see what the imam says to them verily your prophet
[13:02]has said to his companions pledge your allegiance for your pledges only
[13:09]upon heaven so there's conditions to this pledge that you don't just
[13:14]pledge your allegiance i love amir al-munin we all say that everyone
[13:20]says that now we have to there's conditions for that love true
[13:24]love is obedience in the quran in many cases when it talks
[13:27]about that it's not just love what's the point of loving someone
[13:33]and not being obedient to them and he was from short now
[13:45]this hadith is founded kishi the chain all of the ones that
[13:51]are in the chain of narrators are all trustworthy except the one
[13:56]that is narrating from us himself but i will i will discuss
[14:01]later on as well in sha allah why i'm i am mentioning
[14:06]this report by aspect he says was asked how did delaying the
[14:16]elite guards come about he replies we took an oath to fight
[14:25]till the death and he imam ali guaranteed heaven for us not
[14:32]here to play around the enemies of maula ali knew when amir
[14:38]al-mu'mani said where's my shorter where they knew what was coming it
[14:45]was coming the shadow of death was basically come to because they
[14:50]knew what was coming now even nadeem in his paris ibn nadim
[14:55]is one of the scholars that basically discusses the books of different
[15:00]um you could say scholars but scholars of course going back to
[15:05]the time of rasulullah all the way to him basically in his
[15:09]now this individual it's not proven that he is shia actually i
[15:16]lean more towards the fact that he wasn't shia because we could
[15:19]see in his book um he wasn't if you read it well
[15:23]it shows that he wasn't it could be that he was a
[15:26]tesla that had shiite uh leaning he says in his book al-fakhrist
[15:32]the elect guards the elite guards the companions of the high high
[15:44]rank and the meaning of the elite god shut up for the
[15:46]fella he says then he started then he mentions a report by
[15:51]amir al-mu'min for this fellowship there are conditions verily i have made
[16:02]a condition with you upon heaven and not upon gold and silver
[16:06]now if you realize i've mentioned about three reports now all of
[16:11]them are more or less saying the same thing but different wording
[16:15]this gives us this what this does is it strengthens this concept
[16:22]of how they gave allegiance to imam ali alayhi islam taken majlisi
[16:28]so the father of al-alam al-majjis being the one that authored the
[16:36]famous work the enslavopedia they are the wrong they are the strong
[16:45]who are in the front of the army from them are those
[16:51]who are more than just being the front battalion of the army
[16:55]it is as if they gave allegiance upon not returning from the
[17:01]battlefield unless they are victorious or they are killed and as bach
[17:08]was from among them so the elite guards they wouldn't go into
[17:18]battle oh maybe i can get some war booty no no it
[17:22]was none of that two options and two options only death shahada
[17:29]martyrdom or victory nothing else and that's why amir al-mu'min one of
[17:36]the reasons that he was successful in the battle of javel safin
[17:45]narawan was he had individuals that did not care for anything death
[17:49]or victory two options and two options only it is also mentioned
[17:58]and also now these two scholars i've mentioned to al barclays is
[18:01]one of our classical scholars that basically has a book well what
[18:07]got to us is the abridged version of his book where he
[18:10]talks about the different narrators the companions of the imams stories about
[18:16]them if they are trustworthy or not and so on they both
[18:18]so al baraka mentions that the companions of the commander of the
[18:21]faithful that were from the elite guards were far it was six
[18:28]thousand al-kishi now this shows us that it's a specific category now
[18:43]let us try to understand the characteristics virtues and attributes of these
[18:51]individuals now we don't have a specific report that tells us that
[18:56]s upon a specific attribute or characteristics but what we do have
[19:04]is proofs that basically come together that gives us an idea what
[19:08]these individuals were about now of course i think we would all
[19:13]agree that amir mohammed is not going to let a farsah just
[19:16]come in like that and be from his elite guards especially after
[19:20]we will see what their role was in society and so on
[19:27]now one of the the first attributes that we see in the
[19:31]art in the hadith and the books of history is their bravery
[19:36]and the fear of the opposition so their enemies were always in
[19:42]fear of them that they knew when this battalion came it's more
[19:50]or less game over it's mentioned in the book of uh sheikh
[19:56]mufid in his book kitab jamal and also his other book which
[20:01]is a book on the biography of the twelve imams kitab arshad
[20:04]they are both two both books have been translated i really recommend
[20:10]that everyone buys it um of course not everything in there is
[20:13]accepted or authentic but nevertheless it gives you a good understanding into
[20:19]the sierra the biography of the imams alayhim assalam and of course
[20:22]the battle of german he says the imam when he got to
[20:29]basra this is so the battle of jamal happened in basilan when
[20:32]he got to basila he gave a speech so the battle hasn't
[20:37]started yet actually we see from amir menin some reports indicate he
[20:44]waited for three days three days before he went to war because
[20:49]he was sending even abbas other companions telling them go back let's
[20:54]not fight why are we fighting don't do this but they didn't
[21:00]listen because they're hatred for amir al-mu'manin just could not stop them
[21:05]so he says when he got to basra before the battle of
[21:08]german he says servants of allah arise against these people exposing your
[21:15]breasts to battle against them they have failed to honor their allegiance
[21:21]their pledge of allegiance to me they have expelled ibn hanef my
[21:29]governor the governor and we will discuss him in sha allah after
[21:39]torturing and violently punishing him they have killed my companions they have
[21:48]killed righteous men and pursued those who escaped to capture them behind
[21:52]every wall under every hill they brought them and executed them in
[21:58]chains you imagine muslims fighting muslims right they come in they're murdering
[22:08]slaughtering people that were considered even the companions of rasulullah people that
[22:17]are considered that go under shahada tame they say muhammad rasool allah
[22:31]the imam continues what is their purpose may allah fight them indeed
[22:40]they are liars arise against them and be lions against them amir
[22:45]al-muni knows what he brought to the battlefield he knows what they're
[22:52]about to do to the opposing army but even then he was
[22:57]still trying to stop them and it is mentioned that when the
[23:02]battle commenced the first to take the flag the flag bearer was
[23:08]who muhammad bin alhanefia the son of amir al-mu'manin and it is
[23:12]mentioned in some reports that he was scared you know arrows were
[23:17]being shot because amir and munin didn't want to be the first
[23:19]to shoot the arrows so they were shooting shooting one person from
[23:25]the army imam ali died and it is said muhammad bin hanifi
[23:30]it is reported that he said so amir al-mu'min took the flag
[23:37]from me and marched forward he's telling his army go go forward
[23:41]and then he gave it back to muhammad bin al hanefia and
[23:45]said to him go and to said just in that time frame
[23:49]they were able to push back the army of talhah zubair and
[23:55]this is the elite gods the second thing is they were known
[24:04]to be a bad worshipers people that had taqwa there were pious
[24:10]it's not just about you see a lot of people we always
[24:15]focus on the bravery of amir and the bravery on the companions
[24:20]of emir al-mu'muneen that stayed with him and stayed loyal we don't
[24:25]talk about enough the piety the righteousness of amir al-mu'manin his obedience
[24:31]to allah for for me i truly believe the greatest characteristic our
[24:37]attribute to amir al-mu'manin is that he was the most obedient to
[24:42]allah and his messenger the third is their obedience to their leader
[24:50]and intense attachment to him he states when he had finished his
[25:00]speech and his words to the people of basra now this was
[25:05]after the battlefield it's this the the hotbar that we mentioned of
[25:10]amir morin was before this is after when he finished his sermon
[25:15]to the people of basra he mounted his mule and a group
[25:21]of the elite guards and the patrols gathered around him just in
[25:27]case some people try to attack him because the people of basler
[25:32]seem to have some type of enmity towards animosity towards amir al-murmuni
[25:36]it's also mentioned in the books of history that when amir al-mu'min
[25:42]would give his friday his friday sermon the elite guards will be
[25:49]standing around him protecting him being like chills for subhanallah history repeats
[25:59]itself for what happened in karbala when imam al-hussein was praying and
[26:04]his companions were standing like a wall like a shield so that
[26:09]the arrows did not get to abi abdullah hussain the fourth is
[26:16]that they were people that lectured and they were narrators of hadith
[26:23]narrators of hadith and they were lecturers they were individuals we see
[26:27]if we go back to a book called um it's a book
[26:36]that is attributed to one of the classical scholars who died in
[26:41]the year my memory serves me right 286.
[26:46]so early scholar his name is ibrahim this individual his lineage goes
[27:03]back to the uncle of muktara and that's why he's called ibrahim
[27:06]muhammad athaka just as a side note just so you know who
[27:11]this great man is it's mentioned by najashi that ibrahim muhammad sakafi
[27:19]and i'll mention why he's called al-khufi al-isfahani so this individual had
[27:27]a book called and it seems to be a book that discusses
[27:33]the high status of the bait or even it could be said
[27:42]it's a book that exposes the enemies of ali and najashi states
[27:48]listen to this listen to how great this man is it is
[27:51]mentioned that the people of kufa what are telling him not to
[28:02]narrate from this book why they don't want to you know be
[28:09]have any problems and like like i mentioned before history repeats itself
[28:17]how many times do i oh no no don't talk about this
[28:22]no no no don't talk about this someone might get upset well
[28:26]who told you truth is not going to upset people who said
[28:30]that to you who said to you the truth is not going
[28:35]to hurt people and who said and who said you as a
[28:42]human being you are not you don't have the rights to basically
[28:46]say your opinion speak about your theology so the people are cool
[28:51]like no don't narrate from this and of course there were shias
[28:54]in the kuffa but they seems to be you know a bit
[28:58]reduced price she has if you want to call it that don't
[29:01]narrate from this book so it's mentioned that ahmed bin mohammed bin
[29:07]khalid al barca that we discussed earlier he was one of the
[29:13]scholars in com he said to why don't you come to com
[29:15]you know what ibrahim muhammad he says to him where is the
[29:22]furthest place from the shias for this place not geographically furthest place
[29:29]in akida and who is the furthest place from the shia furthest
[29:34]people from the shia the nawazu those that hated amir al-mu'min do
[29:40]you know what city was known to be a city full of
[29:48]nawazum isfahan go look at the books that discuss asvahan or isfahan
[29:55]and you will see that it was filled with navasana do you
[30:00]know what ibrahim bin mohammed he went to isfahan he could have
[30:05]gone to um no no he wanted to go the furthest place
[30:11]from the shias he went to um now sorry to israel and
[30:14]started to narrate from the book kitab for in the city of
[30:21]the nawaz of sallallahu these are our righteous predecessors this is our
[30:32]seller for salah and don't get scared when i say for sale
[30:36]it just means righteous predecessors because i know they're selfies right no
[30:42]selephosia the righteous predecessors these people sacrificed everything for us we have
[30:48]been fed with a silver spoon as a as the saying says
[30:53]they had it hard we have it easy so we see that
[31:00]this individual ibrahim in muhammad he is the one that goes to
[31:06]the furthest place with the furthest akhida from the shiites because the
[31:11]isfahani starts narrate from this book and you know what it seems
[31:17]like he went there alone alone because he stayed in isfahan and
[31:34]i'm sure it won't shock you but the sunnis weaken him as
[31:36]a narrator of hadith anyway what is the role of the elite
[31:45]guards this is a vital point now we know why they was
[31:48]called the elite guards we've tried to discuss to the best of
[31:54]our ability their virtues and characteristics what is their role the first
[32:05]one administrating the legal punishment and the islamic lands now i'm going
[32:11]to narrate to you a hadith it's somewhat lengthy it's a story
[32:16]of amir al-mu'min regarding someone someone's father that basically got killed now
[32:27]it's important that i that this hadith is not in any way
[32:32]a reliable hadith in the sense that it's not an authority upon
[32:40]us when someone says this hadith is not sahih or this hadith
[32:45]is not reliable it just means basically the hadith is not an
[32:51]authority upon us to apply it now sometimes a weak hadith can
[32:56]become an authority something that will strengthen it different kara and different
[33:01]proofs and evidences that will strengthen it so a weak hadith then
[33:06]can become a hajja a weak hadith does not mean fabricated so
[33:12]i'm literally only narrating this report not that to say that this
[33:18]hundred percent occurred and of course we do not also just reject
[33:21]it because you don't just reject weak hadith just like that you
[33:25]just don't apply it this hadith i'm only mentioning as a as
[33:30]a benefit and i'm mentioning it because it's one of the narrations
[33:33]that gives us a bit of detail about the role of the
[33:41]elite guards so everybody narrates from abi jaffar abi jaffar is imam
[34:04]is [Music] enters the masjid and a young man comes and basically
[34:28]is crying and he says tells a group of people to calm
[34:38]him down so imam ali says what makes you weep so he
[34:40]said oh amir al-mu'min he's one of the representatives of imam ali
[34:47]who was one of the judges judged upon me with a judgment
[34:53]i do not know what it is these persons went out with
[34:58]my father being with them in a journey so a group of
[35:03]people went out and this young man's father went with them so
[35:12]they came back and my father did not return so i asked
[35:19]them about him so they said he died you imagine your father
[35:25]goes with a group of men comes back the group of men
[35:30]are there always where's my dad he's not there he died so
[35:34]i asked him about his wealth he had wealth so they said
[35:39]he did not leave any wealth so i proceeded with them to
[35:48]shuraya the judge of amir and so he made them swear oafs
[35:50]so they took her oath you know this were being truthful and
[35:58]i know well oh amira muni that my father went out and
[36:02]with him was a lot of wealth now of course when we
[36:07]say okay he's one of the judges of amir and mu'minim so
[36:13]we continue so i'm here in he said to them return to
[36:19]shuri and the youth was with them so amir al-msharayah said to
[36:24]him sorry oh shuriyah how did you judge between them and the
[36:28]people so he said oh amir al-mu'min this youth claimed against these
[36:36]persons that they had gone out in a journey and his father
[36:39]was with them so they returned and his father did not return
[36:43]so he asked him about him so they they said he died
[36:50]so he asked them about the wealth so they said to him
[36:54]he did not leave any wealth call us he did not leave
[37:00]any wealth they took our oath that's it that's the judge of
[37:04]america saying this so so he said so that says i said
[37:08]to the youth is there any evidence with you upon what you
[37:14]are claiming do you have any proof that you are saying that
[37:16]your father left with wealth do you have any proof so he
[37:23]said the young man said no so i made them swear an
[37:25]oath so they took the oath so they made the oath that
[37:30]yeah my your dad did come with us but he had no
[37:36]wealth and he died so amir al-mu'manin said and we get a
[37:44]glimpse of the justice of amir al-mu'manim he says amir says far
[37:50]be it is it like this that you judge for the likes
[37:58]of this condemning his own judge in front of the people amir
[38:03]al-munique doesn't care what relationship you've had it doesn't care how good
[38:09]you've been when it gets to the point that you are making
[38:13]a wrong judgment and meera and me will speak and this is
[38:17]how we should be enjoying to enjoying what's good and forbid what's
[38:26]evil and by the way sometimes in our communities it's the most
[38:32]difficult thing it's difficult to tell your brother oh you shouldn't do
[38:36]this he won't like it when you tell a sister oh don't
[38:41]do this or when you say for example even giving advice to
[38:43]your own father your father won't accept it you're too young you're
[38:47]my child why you accept why should i accept anything from you
[38:50]this is wrong take advice said by allah i shall not be
[39:02]judging regarding them with a judgment what a creature before me has
[39:06]judged except for prophet dawood and then i don't know for me
[39:15]when i imagine this it just uh it lightens my heart look
[39:21]what the emil says oh bring me shut up bring me the
[39:29]elite guards so they come so he called them over so he
[39:36]is allocated for them a specific job role are you saying that
[39:44]i do not know what you have done with the father of
[39:47]this youth that i am ignorant then he separated them so that
[39:52]he says that to the men he separates them and they cover
[39:57]their faces with their own clothing so the emea separates them and
[40:04]then he stands each one to the pillar of the masjid so
[40:12]each one stands one by one face covered just imagine now the
[40:17]elite guards it seems that they are standing with each one basically
[40:22]enforcing that everyone takes their time to be judged and then it
[40:32]says that amir al-maidahlallah bin abi rafi who is known to be
[40:38]the one that writes down the things for amir al-mu'manin he was
[40:43]also known to be the khatib of emir as it's mentioned in
[40:50]arabic so he says bring a scribe and bring ink basically write
[40:54]this down so he said give me so the imam said basically
[41:00]give me a pen and paper so he basically sat in the
[41:06]seat of the judge facing them and he said to them when
[41:11]i exclaimed tech beer so you all exclaim as well so insha
[41:19]allah when i get to the part with the emir does take
[41:21]beer we all do take beer together inshaallah then he called one
[41:27]of them so he made him sit in front of him and
[41:29]uncovered his face look at the idea behind it and look how
[41:35]smart it is and he said to obey the lobby write down
[41:41]his confession and whatever he says then death imam said facing the
[41:50]the man in which day did you all go from your houses
[41:53]and the father of this youth was with you the man said
[41:59]in such and such day jayed so he said in which month
[42:05]he said in such and such month so the imam said in
[42:10]which year he said in such and such year the imam says
[42:13]unto where did you reach in your journey until the father of
[42:16]this youth died to such and such place the imam said that
[42:21]in in whose house did he die i understand what the emir
[42:26]is trying to do the men are separated he brings one by
[42:33]one takes their story if there's a contradiction someone's lied if there
[42:40]is a major contradiction someone's lying and in whose house did he
[42:45]die in such and such house and and in the house of
[42:52]what person who was the owner of this house such and such
[42:56]person son of such and such person what was his illness such
[43:04]and such illness for for how many days was he ill they
[43:07]said how many days and in which day did he die he
[43:12]told him today and who washed him and who shrouded him and
[43:17]who prayed over him and who descended into the grave look at
[43:21]the details of it someone's going to get called out 100 that's
[43:29]why when you see a liar what you need to do is
[43:33]ask for a story who is there is there proof is that
[43:42]do you have proof for what you're saying or not for lion
[43:47]has become something normal in our communities so sometimes you need to
[43:53]catch them out so the imam said had questioned him about the
[43:58]entirety of what he basically intended amir al-mu'manin exclaimed tech beer and
[44:12]the people replied with a tech beer so the remaining ones started
[44:21]accusing so started suspecting basically that the others did not confess did
[44:28]not say the truth and their heads were uncovered one by one
[44:32]and then there were a few of them got taken to prison
[44:36]then the imam called for for the other ones and another one
[44:42]and he made him sit down in front of him and uncovered
[44:45]from his face then all and then he said all of you
[44:51]are thinking that i do not know what you have done he's
[44:55]called them out khalas too many contradictions so the imam amir al-muni
[45:01]so they said oh i'm here in i was not expecting one
[45:05]of a one of one of the group that i have detested
[45:09]his killing so he confessed then he called for after another one
[45:15]and all of them confessed with the killing and he seized their
[45:18]wealth and then returned it to the young man and he ordered
[45:23]for them to be in prison and all of them basically confessed
[45:26]to what they done so he is necessitated upon them the wealth
[45:34]and the blood money this shows us that one of the roles
[45:38]of the elite guards of amir al-mu'manin was to administrate the legal
[45:47]punishment in the state another one is that they are at the
[45:50]forefront of the battle when you hear that they're the elite guards
[45:58]you know the battle of jammu didn't take that long palace when
[46:03]when they entered yani it didn't take too long the elite guards
[46:09]know these individuals and inshallah we have to discuss what is the
[46:15]benefit of us knowing these individuals what can we derive from knowing
[46:19]these people the third being ready for death and to gain victory
[46:25]at all costs the elite guards did not care they had two
[46:34]options as i mentioned martyrdom or victory and sometimes as human beings
[46:42]and living in the era that we're living in with mental health
[46:48]being a problem with you know lockdown and so many different things
[46:53]happening in the world people have to stay at home um you
[46:59]know mental health is on is increasing in our communities sometimes having
[47:04]that mentality that raw mentality that for me i care for nothing
[47:10]all i want is in life is to be successful the success
[47:16]for uh the elite guards was bringing victory or martyrdom you imagine
[47:21]having just two options in life just that's it with us we
[47:24]want a lot of options we want money we want car we
[47:28]want houses we want um you know best clothes we want to
[47:32]eat the best everything but if we only had two options we
[47:38]cared only for two things martyrdom and success you imagine how our
[47:43]mentalities will change the fourth one is seeking justice on the streets
[47:49]there is a report and i want you to kind of imagine
[47:55]it it says that the theater menin was walking in the fish
[47:59]market now of course this narration again is a weak narration but
[48:03]it has has defied that because it mentions the elite guards in
[48:07]the fish market basically mira moment walks and he's got his whip
[48:13]with him holding it and the elite guards are around him and
[48:16]he's walking in the market the fish market and he tells the
[48:21]the fish market make sure that no one sells bad fish how
[48:25]many times uh have you went to a fish market and then
[48:27]you know they're a bit out of date so amir mean basically
[48:32]shows us that he he ensured that justice is on the streets
[48:39]in the lands of the muslims and it is also in another
[48:42]report which takes me to the fifth point and the fifth role
[48:46]of the elite guards which is making sure that the laws so
[48:53]the shariah is not broken in the muslim lands that people are
[48:59]obedient to the laws of islam we have reports that indicate also
[49:09]that basically they made arrests on people inside the muslim land the
[49:14]lands that was under the authority of amir al-mu'min alayhi salam which
[49:19]shows us that their role wasn't just to be in the battlefield
[49:23]no their role is to be for example an example for society
[49:31]so not anyone can just be called so the elite gods it's
[49:38]not just anyone no there's a specific group with specific characteristics and
[49:43]virtues and you know i'm sure many of you know what's what's
[49:46]happening in america you know the recently the police officer that killed
[49:53]george floyd i was uh basically um he got a full life
[49:58]sentence a life sentence is a few i think he got two
[50:00]or three my memory says me right and it shows us that
[50:05]basically if the people or the people that are in authority chose
[50:12]sp police officers that had the specific characteristics that amir al-mumin was
[50:19]looking for for the elite guards will be in a very better
[50:25]place i see many of the youth they have lost their for
[50:28]example their um their trust in the police department and this is
[50:34]something important that when we go to the western world and we
[50:40]are talking about amir al-mu'min we show them these things that the
[50:44]religion of islam is origin that is for society it's not just
[50:51]you know salawat or prayer or dua no no there's more to
[50:54]it these are the things that are between you and allah but
[50:58]then there is more you have a role as a muslim as
[51:02]a sheri to be a good citizen for society number six is
[51:08]that they were the ones that protected baitil mal the muslim treasury
[51:17]and i will get into this whole discussion of baital and how
[51:23]he got to know that the elite guards were the ones that
[51:26]basically protected baitil the muslim treasury and in every city major city
[51:34]like in al-basra kofa and so on there would usually be the
[51:40]treasury for the muslims let's discuss some of the names we can't
[51:44]go through all of them because of obviously there's too many but
[51:50]we'll discuss the main ones the first one is it is mentioned
[52:00]in the book of al-baraki and again in it says that the
[52:08]command of the faithful said to abdullah bin yahy on the day
[52:13]of jamal so on the day of the battle of jamal so
[52:22][Music] for you and your father are truly from the elite guards
[52:36]the messenger of allah has told me your name and the name
[52:41]of your father that you are from among the elite gods i
[52:45]swear by allah you was named the elite guards by the tongue
[52:52]of the prophets now this hadith is a weak hadith but look
[53:00]what said he says in his volume 11 page 3 403 when
[53:07]he discusses he says although these reports are disconnected morsel what is
[53:16]apparent is that they are famous among our companions and there is
[53:22]leniency with regards to them so sometimes even if a report this
[53:29]is something important even if it's mursel weak but if it has
[53:40]become famous among the alama the much tahedeen the books of hadith
[53:46]the hadith corpus there will be leniency and this hadith has also
[53:52]been accepted by it also has been mentioned by scholars of the
[53:58]arabic language who's one of the um known to be one of
[54:03]the great scholars of the arabic language that also wrote a book
[54:08]about it's like a dictionary of the arabic language so we see
[54:14]that there is some type of leniency when it comes to these
[54:18]ahadif another person and i'm sure many of you have heard the
[54:22]name of this individual abdullah al-ansari said he says from the companions
[54:30]of the prophet and from the elect the asvayah companions of the
[54:35]commander of the faithful and he was from the elite gods now
[54:43]he mentions a few pages after that he says i say so
[54:49]he starts to mention many of these reports about java and abdullah
[54:53]ansari he says from these reports even though they may be weak
[55:01]except that the status of jabba is known and clear and there
[55:04]is no need for them for him that although these narrations that
[55:12]are talking and praising abdullah ansari we see that because they have
[55:19]become so famous so known so clear that ulama have accepted it
[55:25]so sometimes it's not just about is one of this report weak
[55:28]is the chain weak no we have to gather we have to
[55:32]have a holistic viewpoint and gather things together amar bin yasser i'm
[55:41]sure you've all heard of him one of the men that truly
[55:48]stayed loyal to amir al-mu'manin although it's mentioned in the reports that
[55:53]when amir al-munin and ansar came to amiramun they said we know
[55:57]you are the success of rasulullah this is after the death of
[56:04]rasulullah they said we know oh amir al-muni that you are the
[56:09]khalifah many of them answered what shall we do what shall we
[56:16]do commander of the faithful you know he says to them come
[56:20]to me tomorrow at noon shaved your heads be ready we're going
[56:24]to war we're taking over so the people of satifa there was
[56:31]going to be war free turned up it says that amar came
[56:42]late but nevertheless he is someone of great status a tustari who's
[56:48]one of the diligent scholars of rajal he says as mentioned regarding
[56:54]him so amar he is from the elite guards and from the
[56:57]twelve that rejected the caliphate of abu bakr and from those who
[57:02]stayed upon the path of the prophet who did not make any
[57:10]changes we the shia of muhammad ali do not put the sahaba
[57:14]of rasulullah all in the same category and we do not also
[57:18]say that all of them are just and we do not also
[57:22]say that all of them are hypocrites except three or all of
[57:26]them apostate except three that's not true we have the believer within
[57:32]the believer we have those that are in a higher rank salman
[57:39]abu dharr abu then you got the ones that are lower than
[57:45]him you have the second category the hypocrites the liars the the
[57:56]third is the unknown meaning we don't know anything about them the
[58:01]companions of rasulullah was more than by the reading of some more
[58:07]than a hundred thousand so it shows us that we did not
[58:13]get all of the information regarding the companions of rasulullah we just
[58:18]know that some of the shias that say only three stayed upon
[58:23]islam and the rest all apostated that's wrong that's not true we
[58:27]discussed this in muharram and we also do not go with the
[58:32]opinion that all of them are just that's also not true and
[58:41]incorrect now from hadith in the book of al-kishi from imam assad
[58:47]listen to this [Music] could never tolerate that allah the almighty the
[59:11]majestic be disobeyed he would never accept it this is the attributes
[59:19]and characteristics of the sahaba of amir and mohammadi this is the
[59:26]virtues merits this is what a true share should be like if
[59:29]you're walking on the street and you see your brother is going
[59:33]to places he's not supposed to do or doing something he's not
[59:36]supposed to do don't just make a judgment straight away because that's
[59:41]also wrong we see that happen a lot where it's always known
[59:44]that the people that are religious or trying to be practicing are
[59:51]usually judgmental we don't want that don't be judgmental but at the
[59:57]same time we need to understand that we should never accept or
[60:03]allow allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to be disobeyed would never tolerate it
[60:11]another companion from the he's one of the companions of rasulullah listen
[60:23]to this volume 12 page 117 he says from the companions of
[60:36]the command of the faithful as mentioned by the sheikh and his
[60:39]rajal sheikh torsi one of our classical scholars so he continues redeemed
[60:45]him from the elite gods of the commander of the faithful he
[60:52]is also from the twelve and it's famous among our hadith corpus
[60:58]that there were 12 companions that were harsh in rejecting the caliphate
[61:04]of abu bakr ibn abi they did not accept they actually made
[61:08]speeches against him these twelve and he is from them uthman he
[61:17]is also from the one and this is how we know that
[61:20]they are one of their roles was to what to protect the
[61:22]muslim treasury baital mal it's mentioned in the books of tariq that
[61:28]when asha and zubair entered basra when they entered basra they took
[61:39]over bait in man as in hold on i thought they're muslim
[61:41]so why are you taking bait and mild what was the need
[61:45]to rob take the money do you know what they did to
[61:49]her but her name he was the governor of basra at the
[61:56]time and he was there to protect baitil he was an old
[62:01]man do you know what they did to him they tortured him
[62:06]they tortured him they tortured him and he had a big gray
[62:12]beard and it's mentioned in some reports some historical reports that they
[62:16]picked it all out you imagine they picked it all out but
[62:20]the only reason that did not kill him do you know why
[62:24]because he was in medina he had a big family it is
[62:28]mentioned that they got scared they said let him go he went
[62:33]to amir al-munin broken telling him that what happened to him this
[62:39]is uthman my brothers and sisters we we've got a huge problem
[62:45]how do we not know these individuals how do we not know
[62:51]these names we would have not known who amir al-mu'manin would be
[62:54]we would not know who imam ali is we wouldn't know who
[62:59]ali muhammad are if it wasn't for the sacrifice of these individuals
[63:04]uthman tells amir al-mu'manin he says when he comes back to him
[63:09]after he's been tortured you know what he says he says oh
[63:13]amir you put me as governor and i have failed you put
[63:17]me there as an old man with a bed and now i've
[63:21]come back to you bedless by the way the way they took
[63:31]over something you've seen of me it's quite similar actually to what
[63:35]you how isis took over mosul there's some similarities takeover kill murder
[63:44]slaughter also another companion is also mentioned in in his the different
[64:04]narrators it's over twenty volumes he says about ahmed bin hamkel i
[64:12]say what has been mentioned from the reports even if they are
[64:18]weak chains you've seen me mention these points by say the a
[64:24]few times this is to show you that yes we shouldn't be
[64:29]just narrating weak narrations just like that and it's very unfortunate that
[64:34]many of the lecturers and those that are given on the pulpits
[64:42]they're narrating to you stuff from la from nosari books from books
[64:47]that did not come from in an authentic way or narrations that
[64:51]did not come to us in an authentic manner or do not
[64:55]tell you that this is a weak narration but i'm mentioning for
[65:00]this reason and that reason so he says even if they are
[65:07]weak chains except that they are except that there are many many
[65:12]chains mustafi he says which basically means it came through many different
[65:17]chains upon which the greatness of amriben clearly shown without leaving any
[65:24]room for doubt and to add to this is the testimony of
[65:28]al-barclan listen to this and he was from the elite guards and
[65:35]that is sufficient for him or enough so when you say that
[65:41]it is from [Music] when you know that this person's from the
[65:46]elite gods you know this person was upon goodness this person is
[65:51]to be trusted in sha allah we've run out of time so
[65:59]i'll just go through some of the important names so inshallah maybe
[66:04]you can go back to read the power read about them muhammad
[66:08]bin abbey becker who is known to give allegiance to amir al-mu'min
[66:18]upon dissociating himself from his father imagine that you're giving allegiance to
[66:24]a man and i know this man is amir al-mu'min but you
[66:29]give allegiance to this man upon dissociating yourself from your own father
[66:34]look at the virtues and merits and yes it's a virtue and
[66:40]a merit to dissociate yourself from the enemies of ali muhammad s
[66:55]i want you all inshaallah together for us to take our hearts
[67:03]to najef al-ashraf i want us all to take our hearts to
[67:12]najaf together a man that was oppressed not only by his enemies
[67:28]but by his followers and we still have not made we have
[67:36]not given him any justice to this day but it is on
[67:41]these nights my brothers and sisters that amir al-mu'manin was struck lying
[67:47]in bed waiting for his time to come for him to return
[67:54]back to his lord i will narrate to you this narration that's
[67:59]found in the book of al-mufib [Music] now this report again did
[68:05]not come to us through authentic chain but there is proofs to
[68:11]to state that it gives it some strength because we find that
[68:18]it was famously known that one of the individuals that narrated the
[68:24]will the wasayyah who said he said when ibn muljim hit the
[68:44]fatal blow to emir we passed by him in the morning myself
[68:54]and al-harith and swade even and other friends we stopped at the
[69:03]door and just as we heard the weeping we wept also you
[69:15]to return to your homes so all except myself departed again there
[69:27]was intense wailing from the inside of the house benny harsham is
[69:30]crying zainab are crying they're about to become orphans so he says
[69:45]they were crying and he said i also started to weep hassan
[69:50]comes to him and he said did i not ask you to
[69:57]leave he said by allah o son of the prophet my heart
[70:00]does not allow me to go and my feet refuse to carry
[70:09]me till i see amir al-mu'mineen on what a day it will
[70:13]be insha'allah when we get to be gifted and honored to see
[70:19]the face of amir al-mu'mineen so he imam al-hasan paused went inside
[70:28]and came out often he said enter he's like as i entered
[70:35]i saw amir al-mu'min sitting with support imagine i said the victor
[70:44]of all the battles of islam in the time of rasulullah needs
[70:50]support he says he was sitting with a sitting down with support
[70:59]i saw amir al-mu'min with a yellow headband because the strike of
[71:07]ibn muljim went quite deep he said his his blood was drained
[71:15]and his face was pale i could not make make out the
[71:19]difference between the yellow band the yellow material around his head and
[71:27]his face so i fell over him and kissed him and kept
[71:31]on crying he said do not cry o for it is my
[71:37]way to paradise so i said to him may i be your
[71:43]ransom i know full well that you are proceeding to paradise i
[71:52]we because you are i we because i will terribly miss you
[71:59]my ib your ransom please narrate to me a tradition which you
[72:04]heard from the prophet sallallahu alaihi for i fear that i might
[72:10]never have the chance to hear that from you is always talking
[72:17]about rasulullah it's always narrating the hadith of rasulallah my brothers and
[72:24]sisters we have an imam that is waiting for us wherever imam
[72:33]that is waiting for us to take responsibility i spoke about the
[72:45]elite cards today because we haven't let the bar be too low
[72:50]the bar needs to be high i don't want to just be
[72:57]that guy on the side of the imam or the guy that
[72:59]sees the imam or the guy that supports him with my heart
[73:03]i want my soul my heart my body my tongue everything to
[73:07]support the imam of my time so may allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[73:14]make us from the elite guards of imam and mahdi and i
[73:20]pray insha allah to allah that you all found insha'allah the lecture
[73:27]beneficial and i ask you all to make the art for me
[73:28]i'm in need of your da'a insha allah let us try to
[73:38]return back to ali muhammad let us submit to ali muhammad and
[73:43]let us purify inshallah [Music] foreign you
