[6:48]share a brief story in a small village there once lived a
[6:51]Muslim man and his Christian neighbor despite their different Fates they shared
[6:56]a deep bond of friendship one day the Muslim man fell very
[7:02]ill and was unable to leave his home to his surprise every
[7:05]evening his Christian neighbor would bring him food check on his well-being
[7:08]and sit with him for company when the Muslim man recovered he
[7:12]asked his neighbor what made you care for me so much the
[7:18]Christian neighbor smiled and said isn't this what faith teaches us to
[7:21]love and care for one another regardless of our differences this simple
[7:27]yet profound story reminds us that kindness compassion and unity transcend religious
[7:32]boundaries it is not only it is not our differences that Define
[7:38]us but rather the values that we share the values of love
[7:41]respect and service to one another this gathering tonight embodies that very
[7:47]Spirit we may come from different backgrounds different traditions and different walks
[7:52]of life but we share a common purpose to build bridges of
[7:56]understanding and cooperation our communities Thrive When We Stand Together especially in
[8:04]times when the world needs more compassion and solidarity we also deeply
[8:10]appreciate the fact that you have taken the time to witness our
[8:13]evening prayer this is an important moment of reflection and devotion for
[8:17]us and it is heartening to share it with you just as
[8:23]prayer strengthen our connection to God moments like these strengthen our connection
[8:28]to one another I hope that tonight's Gathering has deepened our bonds
[8:33]and strengthened our shared commitment to society built on respect and friendship
[8:38]let us continue these conversations Beyond tonight ensure ensuring that the spirit
[8:42]of unity we experience here remains a Guiding Light in our daily
[8:47]lives I would now like to welcome Bishop Philip Egan from the
[8:53]Roman Catholic Church to the podium to share a few words kindly
[8:56]welcome him with a recitation and a blessing to the holy prophet
[8:59]and his holy Prat muhammedi [Music] Muhammad uh dear friends thank you
[9:21]so much for the wonderful welcome uh this evening and the delicious
[9:27]meal that we've had I believe it was a bit Milder uh
[9:30]especially for us this evening thoroughly enjoyed it thank you I thank
[9:35]Shake P abast to and all of you for your invitation for
[9:41]your warm welcome and for the joy of visiting your beautiful almadi
[9:49]Center I am the Catholic bishop of Portsmouth um our dasis of
[9:58]Portsmouth um covers quite a large area uh we go across the
[10:04]South Coast as far as Bournemouth um and north to south Oxford
[10:10]there are about 200,000 Catholics in the this area we have 140
[10:23]churches and 70 schools so tonight though on behalf of all Christians
[10:28]especially the Catholic Christians to this region I just want to offer
[10:34]you our sincerest friendship our greetings and our prayers and I thank
[10:40]you for inviting me to this ifar event I pray you'll have
[10:48]a blessed Ramadan full of wisdom patience Joy countless blessings Ramadan Mubarak
[10:58]Ramadan Karim at the moment uh Christians too are fasting and this
[11:05]for us is the season of Lent it's 40 days leading up
[11:14]to Easter the word lent comes from the anglosaxon word linkon when
[11:22]the days lengthen that is spring time lent is meant to be
[11:28]a spiritual Springtime where we ask God to renew us to forgive
[11:36]our sins and to correct our faults and by tradition Christians undertake
[11:43]three Works in Lent fasting self-denial prayer and acts of Charity there
[11:51]are two days in Lent of complete fasting but usually by fasting
[11:58]we mean denying ourselves something that we really like in our life
[12:09]it might be cakes or a glass of wine or uh meat
[12:13]or watching the television or whatever it might be that's the kind
[12:20]of usual fasting during this time and you choose what you wish
[12:26]to deny yourself yourself this season of L uh the 40 days
[12:31]it comes from the 40 days that Jesus Christ spent in the
[12:38]desert and during that time the Bible records Christ was subjected to
[12:46]Temptations from the devil from Satan he rejected The Temptations but this
[12:56]is why for Christians lent is a time of spiritual battle when
[13:02]we try to overcome in our lives sin and bad habits it's
[13:11]a time to grow in Holiness and so it involves an element
[13:15]of suffering so please pray for us during this time of Lent
[13:20]as we will pray for you during Ramadan four years ago this
[13:28]month Pope Francis visited Iraq and traveled to the city of Naf
[13:35]to spend time with the grand Ayatollah Sayed Ali Al husseini alyani
[13:43]and like Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict before him Pope
[13:52]Francis wanted to stress the importance of friendship respect and dialogue between
[13:57]religious community is for the good of all in his time as
[14:06]Pope Pope Francis has often spoken about the care of the poor
[14:10]and the care of the earth our common home modern Lifestyles he
[14:18]says can damage the environment they can bring disorder to our families
[14:24]and to human relations and those who pay the price are always
[14:31]the world's poorest yet both Muslims and Christians believe that the Earth
[14:40]is Holy it belongs to God it's his creation and so we
[14:44]must treat it with respect so let's pray that the ecological crisis
[14:53]that humanity is facing will call everyone in the world to a
[14:59]profound interior conversion to a change of lifestyle and to A Renewed
[15:03]care for our common home and for the poor one last thought
[15:10]our country uh Britain is a highly secular society yet you and
[15:21]I Muslims and Christians we are people of religion of faith and
[15:26]spirituality we believe in God and we believe that every human being
[15:34]is called to serve God to worship God and to find in
[15:38]God our ultimate happiness it's a tragedy that many people in society
[15:44]today do not know God or they are indifferent to him and
[15:51]this loss of Faith leads to confusion because the loss of religion
[15:57]undermines ethics and it thwarts human flourishing and human fulfillment our task
[16:08]I would say as Muslims and as Christians is to witness to
[16:13]religion so that people can find their way to happiness and to
[16:21]the one true God because without a faith without a religion to
[16:25]defend without a struggle for the truth there's little to live for
[16:28]for and this is why I'd like to ask you again to
[16:34]pray for us Christians as we pray for you and let's work
[16:41]more closely together to play our part in building a better Society
[16:46]so once again thank you um for your kind and warm welcome
[16:53]uh it's been wonderful to be here thank you for giving me
[16:57]this privilege and honor of saying these few words and thank you
[17:05]for your love of God please pray for me and for all
[17:07]of us in our community Ramadan Mubarak thank you Bishop for those
[17:28]uh beautiful words of wisdom May the Almighty bless you for all
[17:32]your Noble work that you carry out in his blessed name amen
[17:35]um just a quick one so yesterday uh before we broke fast
[17:39]uh at the center we had um some of our volunteers had
[17:42]organized something we call the bring a friend day it's an annual
[17:46]event that we usually hold here um it's mainly for the schoolgoing
[17:49]children who get an opportunity to invite a friend from school a
[17:53]non-muslim friend and their family to come over to the center um
[17:57]they get a tour of the center and there's lots of fun
[18:01]activities for the kids art and craft um and lots of yummy
[18:03]food when we broke fast together it was a beautiful beautiful um
[18:09]um uh evening the children had made a little video of little
[18:12]there's little Snippets of all the children um talking about why they
[18:15]love the Holy Quran obviously in this holy month of Ramadan the
[18:19]Holy Quran is um is is a special book throughout the year
[18:21]but it gets an extra attention during this month um we're going
[18:26]to play the video it's a short one I hope you enjoy
[18:27]it it's been made by all the children um yep so let's
[18:31]enjoy the video I think we'll just dim the lights and give
[18:33]the technical team about a few seconds to set everything up thank
[18:38][Music] you the Quran is important to me because it tells us
[18:48]about the past present and future which helps me prepare for what
[18:51]is going to happen next the Quran is important to me because
[18:56]it gives me spiritual guidance and a clear path to understanding how
[18:59]to live fulfilling and righteous life it also makes me feel connected
[19:02]to Allah by encouraging me to seek his guidance ask for forgiveness
[19:06]and Express gratitude for example Allah subhah wa tala says in verse
[19:14]13 so which of the favors of your Lord will you deny
[19:19]there are so many favors of Allah upon us that we cannot
[19:24]deny I love the Quran cuz when I read it it's like
[19:27]Allah's talking to me calls it's Allah's words the holy prophet has
[19:34]said I leave behind two very important things one is the Quran
[19:38]and the other is my progeny the a bit whoever follows these
[19:42]two will never go astray I love the Quran because I get
[19:48]to connect with Allah and when I recite I feel Overjoyed the
[19:51]Quran is special to me because it guides us to the right
[19:57]path I love the Quran because it has words in it and
[19:59]that keeps me safe I love the Quran because it tells me
[20:05]about so many different stories of the prophets and they're really fun
[20:09]and and I love to enjoy them I love the Quran because
[20:14]it calms me down and helps me unwind at the end of
[20:17]the day I love Quran because it's the word of Allah and
[20:22]it makes me feel calm when I read it the Quran is
[20:26]important to me because it guides me and shows me how to
[20:30]live a spiritual spiritual and meaningful Life as a true must if
[20:33]we Ponder upon the true meaning of each we will find many
[20:39]lessons and Parables to learn from I love the Quran because it
[20:43]um has so much science in it like the water cycle out
[20:51]of space about animals and how a baby forms inside a mother
[20:55]I love to come because it teaches me more of a because
[21:02]it teaches me a story about Prophets okay before we carry on
[21:38]um just a couple of uh housekeeping rules that I was meant
[21:40]to do at the beginning my apologies um there is uh there'll
[21:46]be uh there's no planned fire drills today and in the unlikely
[21:50]event of a real fire uh the fire exit is here to
[21:54]my right and to the front of the ladies Hall um to
[21:58]their right and we've got the main entrance is through the corridor
[22:01]where you've all come through as well um also a another part
[22:04]of housekeeping that we usually do with our guests and again my
[22:07]apologies I didn't mention this at the beginning that um for the
[22:11]uh respect and sanctity of our mosque and our religious centers we
[22:14]usually um avoid um Applause or cap clapping within the center um
[22:21]whenever someone has done something or recited something commendable we usually recite
[22:24]the um salawat which is the blessing onto our holy prophet and
[22:29]his progeny or we would say the word mashallah which is basically
[22:32]um all praise and you know all glory be to Allah as
[22:38]well so inshallah um we now carry on with the rest of
[22:40]the program I would now um like to invite to the podium
[22:45]Bishop uh Jonathan Frost from the church of England ports dicese to
[22:49]share a few words thank you kindly welcome him with a recitation
[22:53]of a Sal asalam shik Fel friends um honored guests uh thank
[23:16]you for the warmth of your welcome this evening as we meet
[23:22]as we meet the world house is on fire Martin Luther King
[23:34]used to speak of the House of the world and the need
[23:41]to learn together to live well within it well we know we
[23:51]know that there are rooms in the world house and people in
[23:54]the world house who have upturned the values we long to live
[24:02]by and so in Ramadan and in Lent Christians and Muslims recall
[24:14]the vision from which they live this is what makes an evening
[24:24]like this so profoundly special friends coming together in different to learn
[24:34]to love to listen to build the bonds of love for nearly
[24:41]30 years and it is such a joy that my friend the
[24:48]dean of Portsmouth is here too that for nearly 30 years there
[24:53]have been conversations between this beautiful community and the community at Port
[25:02]SM Cathedral and between this community and the Anglican dasis of Portsmouth
[25:10]which stretches from Liss and lipok uh down to the aisle of
[25:13]white I want to say that it's not just between Faith communities
[25:22]that we need to keep learning to love to listen to each
[25:27]other but within Faith communities too my dear friend Bishop Phillip is
[25:35]someone I priz so highly we have been on Retreat together we
[25:43]have prayed together we have learned to listen to one another and
[25:51]to Value each other greatly because if the world house is to
[25:58]flourish to be at peace to glorify the one we call Most
[26:05]Holy then people of Faith need to live their faith by loving
[26:15]one another uh by learning to behave well in one room in
[26:19]ways that enable those in another room to flourish I used to
[26:25]think as a when I had three children at home that there
[26:30]were times when it was almost constant turn that down turn that
[26:34]music down or actually I like that music turn that up turn
[26:40]that up learning to live together in a community um I can
[26:43]only speak for the Christian Community we are so different even within
[26:49]ourselves but we have been drawn together by the love of God
[26:56]and I think it's that Same Love that draws us together tonight
[27:04]and I give thanks to God for the gift of this night
[27:07]for the gift of our friendship and for the promise that whether
[27:14]or not the world house is on fire we will continue no
[27:20]we will continue even more vigorously to build friendships that last to
[27:25]speak the truth about each other not halft truths not Christians speaking
[27:31]of their best practice and Muslims worst practice and and Muslims speaking
[27:39]of their best practice and those terrible Christians let's learn to speak
[27:45]well of each other in public that others may discover the love
[27:51]that beckons us all thank you amen thank you uh Bishop for
[28:13]that Enlighten for enlightening the community with your talk it has been
[28:15]a pleasure to have you here once again and to have had
[28:19]the opportunity in listening to you for the final speech of the
[28:22]night please welcome to the podium our resident Alim our resident religious
[28:25]leader she f abas d to kindly welcome him with the res
[28:28]itation of a loud Muhammad Muhammad I commence in the name of
[28:50]almighty God the most beneficient the most merciful I offer peace and
[28:59]greetings upon all Prophets of God his worth servants and especially upon
[29:04]his final messenger Muhammad Sall respected Bishops esteemed Faith leaders honored guests
[29:20]and dear M brothers and sisters I greet you all greetings of
[29:32]peace be upon you all this evening is indeed a special occasion
[29:38]in gathering for ifar together you and I all of us have
[29:43]put into practice the teachings of prophet Jesus and Prophet Muhammad peace
[29:49]be upon them the instruction of sharing a meal I truly hope
[29:56]that following the delicious ifar of our seventh fast in this blessed
[30:02]month of Ramadan you are continuing to have a joyful uplifting and
[30:07]blessed evening at al- Mahi Center most of all I hope that
[30:15]you have enjoyed the hospitality of ifar the dinner the conversations with
[30:20]your neighbors and of course the traditional chai your presence dear friends
[30:28]is deeply valued as it represents not just a gesture of Goodwill
[30:35]but a profound message of unity mutual respect shared responsibility for the
[30:43]world the home Earth we all live in I inde delighted that
[30:51]with the introduction brought in by the esteemed Bishops they have set
[30:55]a foundation for me to be able to continue my talk to
[30:59]today thank you very much for the wonderful groundwork you've done for
[31:04]me thank you God bless this year our fasting Ramadan over bless
[31:09]with the Christian season of Lent a time of reflection prayer and
[31:14]sacrifice this beautiful convergence reminds us that despite our different traditions we
[31:23]share common values discipline self- purification and a commitment to to helping
[31:32]those in need let me share with you a wise saying attributed
[31:35]to our first IM the leader of the faithfuls in a letter
[31:52]of instruction which he wrote to his Governor he tells him people
[31:56]are of two kinds either they are your brothers in faith or
[32:02]they equals in humanity this evening we embody that Spirit of Sisterhood
[32:09]and Brotherhood this Ramadan is an especially difficult one not because of
[32:18]the hours of fasting but because we are witnessing a world in
[32:26]turmoil a broken world we live in a time as the Bishops
[32:34]have told us when humanity is boasting of progress yet Injustice suffering
[32:39]and conflict are at an alltime high on the international level we
[32:50]see geopolitical tensions tearing Nations apart recall the word the war of
[32:57]wordss in the White House we see entire families forcibly displaced from
[33:03]their homelands and we see the innocent women and children facing the
[33:09]horrors of war bombs and bloodshed and what is more tragic is
[33:14]that these genocidal massacres unfold before our own eyes in real time
[33:21]yet much of the world remains silent on the national scene in
[33:29]our country country we witness Rising islamophobia especially over the past year
[33:34]the widening gap between the rich and the poor and an economic
[33:40]crisis that is living families struggling to afford basic necessities we live
[33:47]in an age of misinformation where truth is Twisted where news fake
[33:54]news spreads faster than facts and where morality is questioned where life
[34:02]is devalued whether in debates on abortion euthanasia or assisted dying bills
[34:07]the fundamental question we must ask where is our humanity and the
[34:14]answers come from what my dear friend Bishop Philip Philip Ean said
[34:19]and what Bishop Jonathan said is When Faith is brought out of
[34:28]our space this step terribly sorry state of the world is not
[34:31]just an accident of History it is the direct consequence of hearts
[34:35]that have become blind to truth and devoid of a sense of
[34:40]humanity when the heart is darkened it loses its ability to disting
[34:47]to distinguish between the right and wrong therefore it is no surprise
[34:53]that moral Decay is setting in or moral Decay has already set
[34:57]in oppression is flourishing when the conscience has been numed and mercy
[35:02]is feding when the souls are neglected but for Muslims Ramadan is
[35:11]not just about fasting it is a month of divine guidance and
[35:15]a month to revive our hearts and restore our moral compass it
[35:21]is the month we celebrate The Descent of the noble Quran Shah
[35:27]Ramadan almighty God tells us the month of Ramadan is that in
[35:36]which was revealed the Quran a guidance for Humanity and a clear
[35:40]proof of guidance and Criterion between the right and wrong the Quran
[35:49]is not just a book of rituals it is a Divine Light
[35:56]a Timeless guide a solution for human suffering it awakens sleeping Hearts
[36:03]restores Justice and rekindles the sense of humanity the world so desperately
[36:07]needs it calls upon us to uphold truth against oppression and be
[36:16]voices of Mercy in a world drowning of Cruelty dear friends your
[36:23]presence here tonight is so important in a world where hatred Division
[36:31]and Prejudice are rising your attendance at this Gathering sends a powerful
[36:36]message a message that Faith should not divide but unite that faith
[36:46]is not a cause for conflict but a force for healing our
[36:52]communities look for guidance they see you and I as friends of
[37:00]different faiths how we interact How We Stand Together how we build
[37:07]Bridges instead of Walls by gathering here today by breaking bread together
[37:14]by engaging in meaningful meaningful dialogue we show that faith is the
[37:21]solution not the problem as Neighbors in humanity it is our moral
[37:29]obligation to guide one another towards a better world a world where
[37:35]we see each other not as the other but as the fellow
[37:39]human being a world where you and I are not afraid to
[37:47]stand for truth even when it is inconvenient a world where Justice
[37:53]is not selective but Universal a word a world where human lives
[38:01]are valued tonight as we sit together dear friends let this Gathering
[38:09]remind us that no matter how broken the world may be there
[38:16]is still hope because where there is divine guidance where there is
[38:24]unity of the human being where there is Faith there is always
[38:29]a way forward and it is a most precious possession which you
[38:37]and I have and that is the possession of Hope the possession
[38:42]of prayers and the Poss of Faith like you all have assured
[38:50]me and my community of remembering us in your prayers we too
[38:55]have special prayers and will continue remembering you as our friends and
[39:01]as our neighbors that may we continue remembering and treasuring our faith
[39:08]and being his friends as we mention about prayers let us also
