In the fifth lecture of our series about Intercession (Shafa'ah), Sayed Mohammed Baqer Al-Qazwini discusses whether the concept of intercession and God's mercy in general encourages us to sin and disobey him or not. Within the discussion, we learn that being considered a follower of the Ahlulbayt (a.s.) isn't a title granted but earned, requiring a set of qualities to be possessed. [2:10]multiple dimensions involved in the discussion of shafa'ah and intercession we have

[2:18]examined that intercession shafa is deeply rooted in the holy quran and

[2:22]also in the sunnah of the holy prophet sallallahu alayhi wa ala

[2:27]and in the traditions of the imams of a debate peace be

[2:31]upon them we examined 11 intercessors the prophets the angels the holy

[2:37]quran the martyrs the scholars believers even infants babies miscarried fetuses Allah

[2:45]subhana WA Ta'ala has authorized a number of intercessors to save us

[2:51]and to help us in this life and on the day of

[2:57]judgment we also examined eight conditions to be eligible for the shafa'ah

[3:03]and the intercession intercession definitely therefore gives us hope as le monde

[6:05]and how they can disqualify us from shafa'a because they will lead

[6:10]us to reject the signs of god and to mark the signs

[6:16]of allah subhana wa ta'ala what is the similarity between shafa'a and

[6:23]Toba repentance those who object and say don't talk about Shabbat chef

[7:31]negative lifestyle if you've committed sins don't lose hope you're not stuck

[7:35]you do have a way out and that's through Toba always remember

[7:50]with conditions there are a number of conditions that must be fulfilled

[8:57]this is the fundamental purpose of shafa'a along with Toba let me

[9:01]explain why Jaffa is so important and why repentance is also very

[9:08]important when you examine the life of many people there are many

[9:11]people who have a negative path that they've taken it's very difficult

[9:21]for them to change that path why because when you are in

[9:25]a negative path you know it's a bad path you know you

[9:30]have to change but changing requires a lot of effort because you

[9:33]have to go back and start all over again and you start

[9:38]from scratch many people are not willing to do that let me

[9:41]give you an example let's say a young man a young woman

[9:44]they blew away their high school and college years you dropped out

[9:47]of high school you didn't go to college you didn't take your

[9:50]education seriously and you just took a different turn now you're thirty

[9:55]thirty-five years old and you regret it why did I do that

[10:00]why did I not take my education seriously why did I not

[10:04]get a diploma why did I not get a college degree you

[10:07]know what you did was wrong and you feel bad about it

[10:12]however it's very difficult for you to change course now why because

[10:16]you have to go and start all over again you have to

[10:21]go and take those tests those annoying tests to get your equivalent

[10:24]of you know what's equivalent to a diploma and then you have

[10:28]to go to college and sit with 18 year old college students

[10:33]and you're 35 not everybody is willing to do that it's very

[10:36]difficult to go back and start over all again so that's why

[10:41]many people once they are in a negative path what do they

[10:43]do they continue on that path not because they think it's good

[10:49]for them they know it's bad but it's too difficult to change

[10:53]now when I've been on this path for 10 15 years it's

[10:57]very difficult for me change now the purpose of Toba and shafa'a

[11:04]the purpose of repentance is to tell you look if you're willing

[11:12]right now to repent and to change right now allah subhanaw taala

[11:16]willfully accept you you don't have to go and start all over

[11:19]again in fact not only will Allah subhana WA Ta'ala forgive your

[11:28]sins Allah will transform your sins into good deeds Allah okay you've

[11:33]met dude Allah who say you are to him has a nod

[11:38]to the Quran States those who truly repent you don't have to

[11:40]start over you don't have to start from scratch here's the hope

[11:45]in repentance all those bad deeds that you did Allah will transform

[11:50]them into Hassan and on the day of judgement you see mountains

[11:53]of good deeds oh Allah what are these good deeds I never

[11:57]did them Allah I will tell you remember all those sins you

[12:00]did because you truly repented and you changed I have transformed those

[12:06]sins into good deeds that's the time of Allah subhana WA Ta'ala

[12:11]Toba gives you hope to change see go Toba and repentance does

[12:19]not encourage you to stay sinful Tobi's has come and repent even

[12:23]your sins will become too into good deeds Allah will accept you

[12:28]it's an encouragement towba is calling on you every day change leave

[12:32]that life Allah is there waiting for you you know there is

[12:39]a shocking hadith that states allah subhanahu wa ta'ala becomes more happy

[12:46]with the Toba of his sinful servant than childless parents who have

[12:53]been given a child when they're sterile and they cannot have children

[12:57]can you imagine childless parents 20 years they've been sterile they can't

[13:02]have kids suddenly miraculously they're given a child how happy will they

[13:08]be the hadith states allah subhanaw taala is happier with the repent

[13:11]of his sinful servant then parents who get a son like that

[13:18]we'll get a daughter like that this is a god brothers and

[13:21]sisters whom you want to worship and want to obey when you

[13:26]think of the Rama of allah subhanaw taala it shouldn't encourage you

[13:30]to sin when you think of the Rama of allah subhana wa

[13:36]ta'ala it should encourage you to stay obedient to God because you'll

[13:39]tell yourself when I have such a merciful Lord why should i

[13:43]disobey him when he is such a good Lord when he's such

[13:47]a merciful Lord the mercy of God doesn't encourage you to sin

[13:52]it should actually encourage you to stay obedient to Allah next time

[13:56]when you think of the Rama of Allah don't let the Shaitaan

[13:58]play with your head and tell you a lot more sapotes okay

[14:04]do that sin no problem tell yourself when I have such a

[14:07]merciful Lord who even when I sin if I go back to

[14:12]him he'll accept me why should I disobey such a good Lord

[14:14]the Rama of God actually keeps you in check if you just

[14:20]think about it properly if you usually if you use your intellect

[14:22]the mercy of God encourages you to stay obedient to the Almighty

[14:30]God the same philosophy applies to shafa'a the more you turn to

[14:35]Allah the more you stay obedient the more you maximize your chances

[14:38]of receiving shafa'ah and intercession the holy prophet sallallahu alayhi wa in

[14:46]one very beautiful hadith he states our jebel come on Aisha fartin

[14:49]the Prophet says yes I'll intercede on behalf a lot of people

[14:55]but do you want my maximum Jaffa who will get the maximum

[14:59]Jaffa a step oakum hadith on the one who is the most

[15:08]truthful and a comely amana the one who is the most trustworthy

[17:09]be a better human being it does not discourage you from doing

[17:15]the deeds it should not encourage you to sin in fact if

[17:18]anything it should give you more hope that the better I am

[17:23]the more allah subhanaw taala will elevate my status the more allah

[17:30]we move on to a more fundamental point about safar and to

[17:39]give you a very a practical example let's take medicine as an

[17:45]example for those who say it's okay I'll send and then shafa'a

[17:51]will save me now what does medicine do in our lives Allah

[17:53]has placed the power of healing and medicine you take medicine when

[17:57]you're sick it saves you from sicknesses and illnesses and diseases now

[18:03]have you ever found a sane person who tells himself medicine has

[18:09]the power of healing it saves let me make myself sick and

[18:12]then I'll take the medicine to save myself who does that would

[18:17]a sane person do that you take the medicine when you're sick

[18:21]when you fall sick but does anyone go and make himself sick

[18:26]have you seen a sane person he says yes let me go

[18:27]and make myself sick and then I'll take the medicine let me

[18:34]go under the Sun let me get sunburned and then I'll apply

[18:37]some creams or whatever it is to save myself let me go

[18:42]do whatever I want and then you know once I contract that

[18:45]STD I'll try to figure out if there's a solution for me

[18:51]which same person does this medicine is not there for you to

[18:55]make yourself sick and then you count on medicine medicine is there

[18:58]for you when you fall sick what do you happen to be

[19:04]sick you take medicine so that allah subhanho Tata heals you same

[19:28]sins that we commit sometimes we plan on sinning you know some

[19:37]he's going to sin and then when you tell him no it's

[19:39]okay Allah has mercy there's safar this is the worst type of

[19:43]sin the sin that you actually plan for and you're anticipating and

[19:49]you know that you're about to commit but there is a second

[19:53]type of sin that sin is the one that Allah spinosa Ana

[19:56]is willing to forgive you more sometimes brothers and sisters you don't

[20:00]plan on sinning you really don't have the intention of sinning suddenly

[20:06]you find a desire overpowering you whether it's a lustful desire whether

[20:12]it's the desire of anger anything the power of anger sometimes some

[20:16]people you know in the heat of that moment they're very angry

[20:20]they do something that's out of line sometimes you're not planning on

[20:24]sinning but suddenly a desire overtakes you yes over here repentance will

[20:31]save you chef ah I will save you it's like the one

[20:33]who just suddenly falls sick you take the medicine but the one

[20:38]who knows he's going to sin and he's actually planning for it

[20:42]and spending on it and spending effort on it that's like the

[20:46]person who deliberately makes himself sick in hopes of finding the medicine

[20:53]which same person doesn't that no sane person does that and remember

[21:00]sometimes if you deliberately get yourself sick that disease can be so

[21:06]strong you will not find a cure out of it that happens

[21:08]sometimes which leads us to this very important point my dear brothers

[21:16]and sisters yes we do have hope and the mercy of Allah

[21:18]and the Shafaat at the end it may peace be upon them

[21:21]there's a fire of the added bait God willing will save us

[21:23]but remember to remember a fundamental point our sins have an impact

[21:29]sins have a ripple effect have you ever thrown a rock in

[21:35]a body of water you've seen the waves it generates it has

[21:38]a ripple effect our sins have a ripple effect in our lives

[21:44]you impact your society you impact other people but you know what's

[21:48]the most thing that gets impacted by your sin your heart your

[21:52]spiritual heart the first victim of every sin is the spiritual heart

[21:59]the hadith states when you commit once in a dark spot appears

[22:08]on your when you commit a second sin a second spot appears

[22:14]on your heart a third Senay third spot until the human being

[22:19]commit so many sins such that the entire heart becomes black the

[22:58]on sinful behavior how can you guarantee that that faith will remain

[23:02]with you until you die how many people in this world lost

[23:08]their faith before they died or at the moment of death allah

[24:11]removed from power did he apologize to even one family that he
