[0:01][music] [music] Alhamdulillah.
[0:44]One of the most powerful sermons we find in is the sermon
[0:52]that was addressed to one of the great companions of Alam or
[0:58]Alcc according to versions and depending on the version of that you
[1:04]may have.
[1:06]This is sermon 193.
[1:10]Am I came up to the im and he said, "Describe to
[1:16]me the pious individuals.
[1:20]Describe it in a way such that I can see them." So
[1:24]he wants a very vivid description.
[1:28]Initially the im he was hesitant.
[1:33]He just gave him a very brief answer but he wasn't content.
[1:37]He asked again.
[1:38]He said no please tell me give me those vivid descriptions of
[1:42]what a mut is.
[1:43]Again the imam for some reason he didn't really want to give
[1:48]him an answer.
[1:49]He just gave him a very short brief answer.
[1:50]Then he kept on insisting.
[1:53]And he said, "No, you are IM and I want you to
[1:59]describe them to me." Finally, the im he accepted.
[2:01]He gave in.
[2:04]The sermon starts first with and sending salawat upon Muhammad and Muhammad.
[2:19]This sermon is so beautiful.
[2:21]Because in just one sermon, probably less than two pages, about maybe
[2:28]a page and a half, if you can really fit in the
[2:30]text, maybe even one page, the imam summarizes what faith is all
[2:38]about in the most eloquent of words, truly being worthy of being
[2:41]in the book peak of eloquence.
[2:44]The Imam starts this he was asked about what it means to
[2:49]be a pious individual.
[2:51]What does the life of a pious brother or sister a pious
[2:57]believing or what does their life revolve around?
[3:01]The imam says the Imam starts first by invoking the name of
[3:20]God and he starts by describing what happened when Allah created us
[3:25]because the the centrality of a believer's life is Allahel.
[3:30]You can't discuss what it means to be a good pious individual
[3:35]without discussing Allahel.
[3:35]Doesn't make sense.
[3:37]At the end of the day, the believer their walk, their breath,
[3:43]their steps is filled with.
[3:46]So then the imam says, The Imam here makes a very profound
[4:02]point.
[4:03]He says, "Allah, when he created me, did he need me?
[4:08]Is that why he created me?" Whenever we do anything, we open
[4:12]a new business.
[4:13]Even something as simple as getting up to go get water.
[4:17]Back in the old days, you would go, you know, dig in
[4:20]the well, carry the bucket.
[4:20]Now, alhamdulillah, just go and get the tap water.
[4:23]And I've heard tap water is safe to consume here, right?
[4:26]So where I come from, we have to always drink bottled water.
[4:29]It's not, you know, safe to consume regular tap water.
[4:32]So alhamdulillah, that really is a privilege.
[4:33]So even when I get up to go drink some water, right?
[4:37]I am in need such that I go and I make this
[4:41]action.
[4:40]All of our actions there's a deficit and we have to go
[4:44]and try to fill that deficit.
[4:46]Whether that's eating, whether that's sleeping.
[4:48]Why do we do all this stuff?
[4:50]We encounter a deficit because we're limited beings.
[4:53]And thus, after a long day of fasting, my stomach is empty.
[4:58]I have to fill it.
[4:58]After a long exhausting day, I have to go sleep.
[5:02]Why does Allah do what he does?
[5:03]Is Allah in need of creation?
[5:05]Is Allah in need of being praised?
[5:10]Is Allah in need of my existence?
[5:12]The imam says, "No." The Imam says Allah he does not need
[5:21]our and Allah knows that his servants his creation they can't harm
[5:24]him and they can't benefit him and I do anything to harm
[5:29]God can I I do anything to benefit allahel the lord of
[5:33]the universe [laughter] what can I do to affect you know the
[5:40]cosmos with our limited beings So it's not that Allah subh he's
[5:49]in need of us or there's a fear from his servant such
[5:51]that he wants to please us.
[5:56]Allah is beyond this and our servitude our our actions the Quran
[6:03]that we recite the prayer that we conduct the Hajj that we
[6:07]go and we spend an enormous amount of resources our time our
[6:10]money to go.
[6:12]Allah is not in need of any of this.
[6:14]This, my dear brothers and sisters, is our way of elevating our
[6:24]soul.
[6:22]We understand that we are humans, physical beings, but we have a
[6:27]metaphysical side.
[6:29]Yes, here according to the rules of this duny, you go, you
[6:32]get an education, you take care of your health.
[6:34]That's how you prosper materially.
[6:37]But the works differently.
[6:41]If you want your soul to be pure, to be cleansed, to
[6:46]have that, if you've seen people, they're so calm.
[6:49]Whatever trials that fall upon them as still as a rock.
[6:54]How do I be like that?
[6:55]Through.
[6:57]Because the more I get closer to to my Lord, to the
[7:05]one that created me, endowed me with everything that I have, the
[7:08]more my soul is cleansed.
[7:12]That's why all of our according to Islamic law needs, needs intention.
[7:18]Prayer, any that you do, any action, it needs intention.
[7:23]What's our intention?
[7:25]Seeking closeness to God.
[7:28]Because when you get closer to God, you get closer to that
[7:32]divine essence, yourself is purified.
[7:35]That's why the imam starts by discussing this.
[7:39]Then the Imam says, and we don't have time to discuss the
[7:45]entire we'll just discuss some short excerpts.
[7:48]Then the im says one difference between just a regular Muslim and
[7:59]someone that is a is that if you want to be a
[8:06]good Muslim, you have to engage in the obligations.
[8:07]And we know what our obligations are.
[8:12]We have fasting during Ramadan.
[8:14]We have salah.
[8:15]We have sometimes mandated.
[8:20]We have we have our obligations to our parents, to our spouses,
[8:27]to our kids.
[8:27]We all know this.
[8:29]What separates these individuals from a is this is you know this
[8:37]is pocket change for a for someone that is pious.
[8:38]Obviously, they've taken down and they've gone care of the obligations.
[8:45]What they're busy refining is the virtues abstaining from vices, greed, cowardice
[9:04]and trying to develop good qualities, good that is one difference between
[9:13]a and just a regular Muslim.
[9:14]So they're on a different plane of thinking.
[9:16]Their attitude is not you know did I miss the salah today?
[9:21]Did I wake up for but a is thinking how can I
[9:23]increase my in prayer that humility that concentration a doesn't just think
[9:31]you know let me just do the bare minimum for my community.
[9:35]A says how can I make a lasting impact on my community?
[9:40]How can I make every single person in this community be a
[9:47]better person because of my interactions with them?
[9:51]So the they concern themselves with virtues, generosity, magnanimity, strength, veil.
[10:02]This is the realm of their concerns.
[10:05]They're beyond that phase where we're still struggling to wake up for
[10:11]our fasting is that purely physical fasting.
[10:13]All I do is just not eat, not drink.
[10:16]But a mut understands that my fasting is not just not eating,
[10:22]not drinking.
[10:20]There's fasting of the eyes.
[10:23]There's fasting of the tongue, fasting of the heart, not letting the
[10:28]sanctuary of Allah, which is the heart, be occupied by anything else.
[10:31]love of this dunya, love of the football games, whatever is going
[10:34]on.
[10:34]Some people love drama, that's their god.
[10:38]Wherever there's drama, you'll find them at the epicenter is not concerned
[10:46]with all this.
[10:49]They have higher aims and higher goals.
[10:52]Then the im says whenever they speak some people the moment they
[11:04]you can see their lips forming letters.
[11:06]You already know what's going to come out of their mouth.
[11:07]They're either going to get angry, they're going to show some discrimination,
[11:10]they're going to start gossiping.
[11:12]Allah, what comes out of this mouth this time?
[11:16]And that's why it's caged.
[11:21]They strive that all their actions are in line with they only
[11:26]ever speak the truth.
[11:26]They don't speak because it serves their personal ego.
[11:32]They don't speak because of whether that's racism, whether that's special preference
[11:39]to people that I like.
[11:39]And I will speak for someone that's on my team, but I
[11:46]won't speak for someone that's not on my team.
[11:47]And the way they carry themselves, what they dress, they understand.
[11:54]You can dress nice clothing, you know, there's nothing wrong with it,
[11:59]silk dresses, best socks, you know, Apple watch.
[12:02]It doesn't that's okay.
[12:02]The imam is saying it's not haram.
[12:05]But the imam is saying concerns themselves with what's inside, not what's
[12:11]outside.
[12:11]You can have the best stuff on your body, but that's not
[12:15]what's important.
[12:15]That's not what you are going to be held accountable on the
[12:19]it's what's inside that matters.
[12:23]And then the im says some people just from the way they
[12:30]walk and he this guy thinks he's the biggest big shot.
[12:33]He owns the city.
[12:35]When I walk everyone has to show me respect.
[12:39]Look at all my accolades.
[12:42]Look at the wall of my achievements.
[12:44]And if I don't get the proper disrespect that I deserve, man,
[12:50]you know, someone's going to get it today.
[12:54]Their walk, their attitude, the way they carry themselves is humility.
[13:00]I understand this walk, this earth that I walk on, this dunya,
[13:05]maybe not this specific step, not that specific step, but one days
[13:10]one of these steps is going to be my grave.
[13:14]Why act allotty?
[13:13]act so mighty.
[13:15]It's just a few days and it ends.
[13:21]They carry themselves with humility.
[13:22]Then the imam says similar to how we want to have best
[13:36]heart health, mental health, visual health.
[13:39]We get visual checkups.
[13:42]We do heart checkups.
[13:42]We do our regular annual physical checkup.
[13:45]A is doing constant metaphysical checkups.
[13:49]Is what's reflecting in my eyes something proper?
[13:55]Am I controlling my eyes?
[13:58]Is the stuff that I'm listening to, is it something proper for
[14:02]my soul?
[14:03]Is it something that's nourishing my soul?
[14:06]The hadith of the good beneficial information, taking my study seriously, or
[14:10]is it gossip?
[14:11]Is it he said she said some sah during Ramadan?
[14:17]Mashallah.
[14:20]We have to be careful what enters.
[14:24]The same way if you're a lifelong chain smoker, you know, all
[14:27]the smoke that you're inhaling, eventually it's going to get to you.
[14:33]All this metaphysical impurity that you inhale, that you see, that you
[14:38]listen, this burdens the heart.
[14:39]We have to be careful.
[14:42]Then the im says part of being a is that no matter
[14:55]what your circumstances are in life and for many of us we
[14:57]can't really control our circumstances.
[14:57]You know I never chose my parents.
[15:00]Alhamdulillah I have wonderful parents.
[15:01]May Allah bless them.
[15:04]But I didn't choose them.
[15:05]I didn't choose where I was born.
[15:07]I didn't choose who my siblings are.
[15:09]I didn't choose my nationality and my race and my ethnicity.
[15:12]You know, a lot of it was just stuff that, you know,
[15:19]just happened one day.
[15:19]I was just there.
[15:20]I can't always control my circumstances, but what I can control is
[15:26]my reaction.
[15:25]How I react to the universe, that's fully within my control.
[15:31]The imam says, "In difficult times and in prosperous times, in war
[15:35]and in peace, the m does not change.
[15:39]Some people when you know that paycheck when that direct deposit hits
[15:49]mashallah best they're so happy you know they're handing out gifts candy
[15:53]to the kids at the mashallah but then the slightest struggle and
[16:01]they start questioning ya Allah but didn't I donate to these didn't
[16:06]I give didn't I go to during the Allah, why are you
[16:09]doing this to me?
[16:12]They start questioning and then their mood is terrible.
[16:14]The guy, he walks home.
[16:17]He's like a tyrant.
[16:17]He opens the door, everyone runs away.
[16:19]No one wants to even see him.
[16:24]All those inner demons are unleashed.
[16:25]A believer does not behave like this.
[16:28]Regardless of whatever scenario they find themselves in, their principles don't change.
[16:34]I treat people with respect.
[16:37]I'm always on time with my my smile is always on my
[16:47]face.
[16:48]In one hadith the imam says a believer the smile is on
[16:51]his or her face but they carry their pain inside.
[16:55]They don't always burden everyone else with all their problems.
[16:57]Some people the moment you sit with them you know how was
[17:01]your day?
[17:00]Alhamdulillah, but you know this happened and this happened and my aar
[17:03]wasn't too good, was too salty and this happened and this happened
[17:08]and guy cut me off on the way here and always reacting
[17:12]negatively to everything that comes across us.
[17:15]Either what comes across your way is blessings from Allah and you
[17:18]do shook or it's and you engage with patience and Allah also
[17:25]rewards you.
[17:23]That's the mentality of then the imam says they have so much
[17:40]belief in the they can almost visualize heaven and hell and then
[17:43]the im he says they can literally see the and they can
[17:48]hear the crackle of the fire of hell.
[17:50]Therefore they have no interest in this duny.
[17:53]If it wasn't that Allah had given them a certain expiry day,
[17:56]Allah knows when our time ends here on this dunya.
[18:00]No one else knows.
[18:02]No doctor can tell you.
[18:03]Noim, you know these astronomers who do astrology.
[18:07]No one can tell you when your end time is.
[18:08]Only Allah knows.
[18:10]But these people, if it wasn't for the fact Allah gave them
[18:13]a specific date, they would want to go back right now.
[18:16]They've had enough with this dunya because they can see what's awaiting
[18:19]them.
[18:20]All this we wake up, we pray and then you know half
[18:24]dizzy we go back to sleep.
[18:25]They understand all this leads to this and they can visualize heaven
[18:28]in front of them.
[18:31]They can visualize the heavenly food.
[18:33]You know you can sleep on clouds in heaven.
[18:36]You can do whatever you want.
[18:40]Then the im says him.
[18:49]Why does a believer behave this way?
[18:55]Because a believer Allah has occupied so much of their heart and
[19:01]their mind that everything else is minuscule.
[19:03]When you have the taste of knowing Allah, of getting close to
[19:11]Allah, everything else seems so insignificant.
[19:16]That pleasure of knowing God, of elevating yourself, tasting that divine bliss.
[19:24]Once you taste that, everything else seems so petty.
[19:26]People fight because of pieces of land.
[19:30]You know, there was a a brother I knew.
[19:32]He said, "My uncles," I have six uncles.
[19:34]He said, "They haven't spoken in 12 years." And he says, "It's
[19:39]because of a dispute over inheritance." And he says, "I wish at
[19:43]least it was like land in New York or some big urban
[19:46]city." He said it was back home in one of our Middle
[19:49]Eastern countries.
[19:49]And he said it was in a rural area.
[19:51]There's no roads in that area.
[19:52]There's no street signs.
[19:55]It's just like literally nature.
[19:56]It's not even worth anything.
[19:58]But they suspect that in the future this might appreciate in value.
[20:01]and they fought and six brothers don't speak to each other 12
[20:07]years because of this.
[20:09]If you taste that divine pleasure, this doesn't concern you anymore.
[20:16]Land, stupid stuff like that.
[20:18]Ego, I came into prayer.
[20:21]I usually sit in the first row and then someone sat in
[20:23]my spot.
[20:25]Who cares?
[20:27]my relationship with Allah, you know, my salah won't be degraded if
[20:31]I sit in the second row.
[20:32]But some people, oh, this is my spot.
[20:34]How?
[20:35]Especially if it's someone younger than them.
[20:37]Now, if it's someone older, they'll try to hold their tongue.
[20:39]But if it's someone younger, man, these kids these days, they have
[20:44]no manners.
[20:42]They're always on TikTok.
[20:45]This this, you know, but sometimes before we start criticizing others, we
[20:50]have to look within.
[20:53]Then the im says, A believer enjoys life but their heart always
[21:03]carries an element of sorrow.
[21:05]It's because of all the injustice that they see.
[21:08]Number one, injustice to ourselves.
[21:10]They see people sinning, people enjoying sin that brings them sorrow.
[21:17]And they see injustice done to other people.
[21:19]When you look at the news, my dear brothers and sisters, you
[21:21]see all this death, young school girls dying, a genocide being live
[21:26]streamed.
[21:26]How do you enjoy life the same way?
[21:30]No one cares.
[21:30]You know, everyone's just going about their daily life.
[21:34]Now, back then, maybe people had the excuse of, I didn't know,
[21:38]you know, this is thousands of miles away.
[21:39]How could I know?
[21:39]I didn't see.
[21:41]Now, we see with our own eyes.
[21:45]Allah, if some of these scenes that we see, if we really
[21:49]understand the tragedy, you probably couldn't even bring yourself to smile.
[21:57]Then the imam says for them this is a transaction.
[22:13]But what type of transaction?
[22:15]What are they trying to profit?
[22:18]They want they want eternal peace and rest.
[22:21]And they understand all they have to give in return for something
[22:24]so grand, you know, great prizes, great treasures are valuable.
[22:27]You have to spend big bucks to get them.
[22:30]All they understand is you spend a short time here.
[22:34]Don't get too caught up by the distractions.
[22:37]It's okay.
[22:39]Enjoy life, but don't get too caught up.
[22:41]You know, imagine if someone first time she flies on first class,
[22:48]you know, airways that Q suite, you know, mashallah.
[22:50]It's like it's like a room in the sky.
[22:53]Really enjoying it.
[22:55]You know, you're not so tired and all your bones are broken
[22:58]after that long international flight.
[22:59]Now imagine you arrive, the flight attendant comes.
[23:02]He tells that person, "All right, you know, lights up, get up."
[23:04]He says, "You know what?
[23:05]Let me enjoy this a couple more minutes.
[23:08]You know, this was a really nice nice chair.
[23:08]Turns into a a bed and it's so premium.
[23:11]It's so comfortable.
[23:12]And the flight of sense says, "Well, other people are coming into
[23:15]the plane.
[23:16]You have to deboard.
[23:17]You have to deplane.
[23:20]It's okay." The imam isn't saying don't enjoy life.
[23:24]It's okay to enjoy life.
[23:24]Well, don't get too caught up.
[23:28]Understand that before we were born, we did exist.
[23:33]We weren't we were in another form of universe and we are
[23:38]going to somewhere much better.
[23:39]This is just a transitory period.
[23:43]We're just crossing a bridge.
[23:44]If you cross the Ambassador Bridge, you know, Trump is having this
[23:47]whole fight about the Ambassador Bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor, Canada.
[23:51]It's beautiful.
[23:52]You see Detroit, you see Windsor, you're crossing over the river.
[23:56]But do you get out of your car, you set up camp,
[23:59]and you just stay there enjoying the view?
[24:00]It's okay.
[24:01]Enjoy the view while you're crossing.
[24:02]But just remember this is a bridge.
[24:04]The point of bridges is that you cross them.
[24:07]It's okay.
[24:08]You take in the scenery, you can drive slowly, but eventually you
[24:12]have to get to the other side.
[24:14]That's life.
[24:15]Real life according to the Quran starts at the moment of death.
[24:20]This is just that dream that we all have, that collective waking
[24:24]consciousness.
[24:26]But then real life and real blessings of Allah appear before you
[24:30]at the moment of death.
[24:33]Then the imam says, What do those spend their nights doing?
[24:44]Especially on nights of Ramadan where every waking moment at night is
[24:53]in fact your breath is during Ramadan.
[24:56]They spend it recitation of holy Quran.
[25:00]What is this divine message?
[25:01]If Allah created me and he loves me and the reason I
[25:04]serve him and I'm in servitude to him all my is not
[25:08]because he needs it.
[25:10]Nay rather I need it.
[25:11]Then how can I elevate myself even further?
[25:13]How can I get even closer to him?
[25:16]If the goal of purification of self is through nearness to Allah,
[25:22]then how can I get closer to Allah?
[25:26]What is his message to me?
[25:26]I go and I read the Quran and they're on their feet.
[25:28]They're on their toes in dua, in salah, in prayer, in supplication.
[25:36]Then the IM says, this is a very beautiful line.
[25:45]And let's just stop here for a minute.
[25:46]The Imam says before they go to sleep at night, they're busy
[25:54]reflecting on that day and offering thanks to Allah, being appreciative and
[25:58]grateful for what they have.
[26:00]Oh Allah, alhamdulillah, today I was fasting.
[26:02]First of all, thank you for the blessing of fasting.
[26:06]Some of us are ill or we have other conditions where we
[26:08]can't fast.
[26:09]We can't engage in this communal ab.
[26:12]But also, thank you for having that already.
[26:15]I didn't have to be concerned today after a long day of
[26:19]fasting.
[26:20]Will I have aar will there be food on the table?
[26:21]Thank you, Ya Allah.
[26:23]Thank you for the blessings of living in a safe area.
[26:28]My kids can go to good schools.
[26:29]I'm not worried that a bomb will come and drop on my
[26:33]school and kill over 100 people.
[26:36]Isn't this a blessing of God?
[26:39]We have to be thankful.
[26:42]So before they go to sleep, they're thankful.
[26:45]And then they wake up and the first thing on their mind
[26:50]is ya Allah thank you for giving me another day and I
[26:55]will dedicate this day to you.
[26:56]Allah could have taken his ama.
[26:59]At the end of the day we're our essence is our soul.
[27:00]This body is an ama.
[27:02]It's a trust from God.
[27:03]Allah could have taken his ama at night.
[27:05]Now a lot of people pass away in their sleep peacefully.
[27:09]But Allah says you know I'll give you one more chance.
[27:13]wake up today and you get do over.
[27:16]How are you going to spend today?
[27:18]How are you going to occupy your time?
[27:21]This is what concerns themselves with.
[27:28]Then the imam says the imam here is teaching us self- discipline.
[27:39]The imam says sometimes in life we have to do stuff that
[27:43]is not easy.
[27:44]We have to kind of force ourselves to wake up in the
[27:46]morning, go to work, develop good study habits, good work habits, good
[27:53]social habits.
[27:55]The imam says if I want to do something I have a
[28:00]goal and our ultimate goal in life is nearness to God and
[28:04]my neph doesn't like that.
[28:05]It doesn't want to do it.
[28:06]How do I discipline my soul?
[28:10]the stuff that it wants to do, I prevent it.
[28:10]If I've been craving a sweet treat, you know, dates are okay.
[28:16]Alhamdulillah, they're mentioned in our hadith.
[28:19]But, you know, a chocolate chip cookie, a piece of brownie, fudge
[28:24]brownie after a long day.
[28:24]But today, myself was wild.
[28:27]You know, my ears weren't very attentive.
[28:31]I wasn't controlling my eyes.
[28:33]My tongue was all over the place.
[28:36]in bad speech then how do I discipline myself I say okay
[28:41]tonight no matcha for you you know no smoothie when you train
[28:51]yourself that if you don't do what the tells you then you
[28:55]will not get what the nefs wants this develops your spiritual discipline
[29:01]if you constantly feed into the nefs even at the cost of
[29:07]Well, that's a big dilemma.
[29:13]Then the Imam says, and he also says, if just this one
[29:25]line we were to follow, forget everything else in this, how much
[29:28]better would our communities be?
[29:31]How much would we avoid?
[29:34]The im says a is someone that they trouble themselves so that
[29:41]others are at ease.
[29:41]They control their ego so that they don't lash out at others.
[29:46]They control their tongue so that others aren't harmed by their gossip.
[29:51]They manage their own expectations so that everyone else isn't always burdened.
[29:55]We mentioned being high maintenance a couple nights ago.
[29:59]So they trouble themselves.
[30:02]They discipline their soul so that alhamdulillah the community is at ease.
[30:06]Whereas you find some people they want to be comfortable at the
[30:10]expense of everybody else.
[30:12]Any issue that happens in my life it's always someone else's problem.
[30:15]I want something to be done and I can easily do it
[30:18]myself.
[30:19]But no, I see that other people are my slaves, my servants.
[30:21]No, I see this kid, hey, you get up, pass me the
[30:23]salt, get me a bottle of water.
[30:24]It's okay to help your fellow brothers and sisters in faith, but
[30:29]it's an attitude.
[30:31]Treat other people like full human beings with needs and emotions and
[30:37]sense of integrity and respect.
[30:41]Some people other people's autonomy and sovereignty and respect is none of
[30:46]their concern.
[30:47]But they trouble themselves.
[30:49]They develop their own self-discipline so that everyone else is at ease.
[30:54]You know this person will never harm you.
[30:57]Even if you make a mistake with them, they won't go spread
[31:02]your mistake to everyone else immediately.
[31:04]You know, going on WhatsApp and then getting that forwarded many times
[31:10]message and is always careful and that's why you're always comfortable with
[31:15]them.
[31:13]You know they'll keep your secrets.
[31:16]You won't tell them something, confide in them thinking that you could
[31:20]trust them and then find out on Facebook the next day know
[31:23]600 likes and even the mayor has commented they trouble themselves so
[31:31]that others are if we can only just take this my dear
[31:33]brothers and sisters let's just take this as a lesson then the
[31:39]imam says these are big traits you know are up to the
[31:48]task.
[31:48]Someone has wronged you, you forgive them.
[31:50]Some of us were so petty, both parties are in the wrong,
[31:56]but they don't want to compromise and forgive the other.
[31:59]The imam says, he goes a step further.
[32:02]They were 100% in the right.
[32:05]They were oppressed and yet they still forgive.
[32:06]Can we be the bigger person?
[32:09]Can we have that heart in us to say that at the
[32:12]end of the day, we're all humans.
[32:14]We all make mistakes.
[32:14]And if I see a sincere intention on your part to make
[32:19]it up to seek repentance, then I'll forgive you.
[32:21]Can we have that mindset?
[32:31]One of the most beautiful aspects of Kb is that when the
[32:40]Imam and his encampment were on the banks of the Euphrates, they
[32:43]allowed the enemy camp of Iben Zad to come drink water.
[32:49]And the IM knowing what was to happen, what was to come,
[32:54]he did this.
[32:56]Because the Imam is beyond saying, well, if you deprive me of
[32:58]something, if you hurt me, I'm going to respond in kind.
[33:01]That's not the of the even if someone didn't treat me with
[33:08]the best treatment, I will always try to treat them well.
[33:10]Not because they deserve it.
[33:12]It's not about them.
[33:13]It's because I want myself to be a type of person that
[33:17]always treats others with the best of treatment.
[33:21]Because aren't we all servants of Allah?
[33:24]Are we good servants sometimes?
[33:26]But Allah always extends his mercy to us.
[33:30]Are many many many abundant sins myself at the forefront.
[33:35]It does not prevent Allah from having mercy on us from granting
[33:38]us today's from grant granting us so many blessings.
[33:44]And then I'll conclude with this.
[33:48]The imam says Some people because they have a personal problem with
[33:57]someone and maybe they're even in the wrong.
[34:00]This person is evil.
[34:03]This person has no this person, you know, it's they start maybe
[34:06]even questioning if this is a Husini person, if this person attends
[34:08]the mosque, what their nia is, what their sincerity is because they
[34:12]have a personal problem.
[34:15]They make it everyone else's problem.
[34:17]But someone if this person is my friend, my brother, my sister,
[34:20]my relative, you know, my homie, this person, no m can never
[34:24]do no wrong.
[34:24]If they got into a fight with someone, definitely he's in the
[34:29]right.
[34:30]I was visiting someone and they were a very respectable family, but
[34:34]the wife, you know, it was the father, the mother, and the
[34:36]kids said some very unusual things.
[34:39]She said, and I guess it's good that she was showing appreciation
[34:44]for her husband, but she said something that was a bit striking.
[34:46]She said, you know, I trust him so much.
[34:48]I have so much respect for him.
[34:50]Whatever he says, I'll accept.
[34:51]Okay, I guess nothing wrong so far.
[34:54]Then she said, if he even claimed I'm a prophet, I would
[35:02]accept.
[35:03]Okay, maybe take a break right there.
[35:04]you know, excessive love.
[35:07]I guess it could be a problem sometimes, too.
[35:10]Then she said something else, too.
[35:12]She said, "I have two sons." She said, "One of them is
[35:15]such an angel." And I can clearly tell who's, you know, the
[35:17]spoiled favorite one.
[35:19]She said, and I literally quote what she said.
[35:23]She said, "If I saw the second son do something wrong, I'll
[35:25]blame the first one." So, you know, it's your fault, not your
[35:28]brother's fault, not the favorite one.
[35:32]This is not an acceptable attitude to have.
[35:37]Some of us, we go above and beyond in love for people
[35:42]who sometimes need an attitude adjustment or need a lifestyle check.
[35:49]This is not appropriate.
[35:51]Yes, of course, it's good to love your family, to love your
[35:58]friends, but is also a part of our faith.
[36:01]You have to advise them.
[36:01]Part of being a good friend is when you see your friend
[36:04]in the wrong, you go and you advise them.
[36:07]You tell them, "Hey." You know, this is an area where you
[36:10]messed up.
[36:10]Sometimes we don't want to be in that awkward situation.
[36:13]We avoid it.
[36:15]But that's not being a true friend.
[36:16]A true friend comes to you to your face and tells you,
[36:18]"Look, I'm your friend.
[36:19]And it's because I'm your friend.
[36:21]I'm telling you this.
[36:22]You can't do this anymore.
[36:22]You have to change.
[36:25]And just because I have personal problems with someone doesn't mean I
[36:28]should go and generalize.
[36:31]Yeah, this person is not a good person.
[36:32]We have a problem at oh man this guy you know even
[36:37]has an issue.
[36:40]No the we would see them giving credit even to their enemies.
[36:45]They would give credit when credit is due.
[36:47]They wouldn't deprive someone of credit just because they have an issue
[36:51]with that person.
[36:53]So these are various descriptions of the as mentioned in the sermon.
[37:00]Then when the imam concluded the narrator says I saw him collapse.
[37:07]The companions went to go check out him.
[37:09]He passed away.
[37:12]Why did he pass away?
[37:16]He couldn't, you know, really bear the weight of what the imam
[37:19]said.
[37:19]He was a true servant.
[37:22]He really wanted to be but the imam gave him so many
[37:25]descriptions it was just too much on him.
[37:27]He passed away.
[37:29]I remember once when I was younger I was in I was
[37:31]studying this with the teacher and there were other students in the
[37:34]class.
[37:35]So after we finished the and it took a while to discuss
[37:37]all the various aspects.
[37:38]I asked the teacher well you know you just said the entire
[37:43]why why why did nothing happen to me?
[37:45]So he said, and he was very humble, mashallah.
[37:47]He said, "It's one thing to hear it from me.
[37:52]It's another when tells it to you, it's one thing to hear
[37:58]it from someone who tries to do their best, but you know,
[38:00]we're still sinners.
[38:02]We make mistakes and it's a difference when you hear from the
[38:07]leader of the believers." So that's the difference.
[38:10]And that's in fact why the im in the beginning, he didn't
[38:12]want to say this.
[38:14]He kept on resisting because he knew Ham had certain potential but
[38:18]he didn't want to exceed it but because he insisted again and
[38:21]again and again the imam told him may Allah subhana ta grant
[38:32]us the of not only being amongst the being amongst im people
[38:36]who other are also inspired by.
[38:38]May Allah subhana ta guide us to proper virtues.
[38:41]May Allah subhana ta abstain from us from engaging in vices and
[38:45]negative qualities, negative traits, negative habits.
[38:49]Inshallah, this blessed month of Ramadan will be a month of spiritual
[38:53]growth, of spiritual evolution, of progress in our character, in our iman,
[38:59]in our and our knowledge.
[39:00]May Allahh bless us all, protect us all, protect and fellow believers
[39:07]all across the globe wherever they may be.
[39:09]I want to be a Muhammad.
