In the seventh lecture of a series about Imam Mahdi, Sayed Ahmed Al-Qazwini explains the concept and purpose of Imamah to assist in clarifying the roles of the Imam during his occultation. Such roles include being a reason for our creation and continuation in existence, and as a refugee for the believers to resort to in calamities and difficult situations. [0:49]respected brothers and sisters what is the purpose of an imam that
[0:58]is an occultation al ghaibah is an important question that may come
[1:04]across the minds of many individuals and that's in the same way
[1:07]that many do not understand why imam al mahdi went into the
[1:14]state of occultation likewise many do not understand what's the benefit of
[1:19]imam al mahdi if he is in a state of occultation do
[1:23]we benefit from imam al mahdi what's his purpose many people ask
[1:27]if imam al mahdi is in the state of ghaybah if he's
[1:30]not around to help us to guide us to lead us for
[1:33]us to ask questions for him then what's the benefits and purpose
[1:37]of imam al mahdi they see him as useless and why do
[1:40]we even consider him as an imam if he is not beneficial
[1:44]to us if he is useless why do we deem him as
[1:46]an imam to begin with now before we can answer this question
[1:50]what's the purpose of imam al mahdi in this raiba the large
[1:53]raiba the major raiba al ghaybat al qubra we have to first
[1:58]understand two concepts if we understand these two concepts this will help
[2:02]us a lot in understanding the answer to this question the first
[2:06]concept that we have to understand is the concept of ghaybah and
[2:10]here i have to re emphasize what i already mentioned we said
[2:14]that many people have misunderstood the concept of ghaybah and because of
[2:18]their wrong understanding of the gaiba they accuse there's misconceptions and there
[2:24]are there's ignorance many people we said they think that when we
[2:27]say imam al mahdi is in the state of gaiba imam al
[2:31]mahdi is completely isolated he's hiding on an island somewhere or in
[2:35]a basement somewhere this is wrong we said because if we did
[2:38]believe in this then of course this would justify the question what's
[2:41]the purpose of this imam if he is on an island all
[2:44]by himself secluded he's isolated from the world in a basement but
[2:48]however we prove this during the last few nights that the ghaybah
[2:52]of the imam does not mean he's isolated the imam lives with
[2:55]us the only thing we mean is that the identity of the
[2:58]imam is concealed that's all we mean we do not recognize him
[3:02]we said many of us may have met him and saw him
[3:04]and saw him and that he goes to hajj every year he
[3:07]has 30 companions he walks in the streets in the market so
[3:10]imam al mahdi lives normally just like us but we do not
[3:13]recognize him so this is the first thing if we understand the
[3:16]concept of gaiba then what then this will help us in understanding
[3:21]what's the purpose of imam al mahdi because just because i cannot
[3:25]recognize the imam does not mean he's useless the imam is not
[3:28]secluded he lives with us just because i can't identify him and
[3:32]recognize him does not mean that the imam is useless and that's
[3:36]why when we come to the holy quran allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[3:39]he shows us through a beautiful story he shows us how an
[3:42]imam or a leader or a prophet can be in the state
[3:47]of gheba but at the same time he can be very beneficial
[3:50]to his community you see the stories of the quran allah subhanahu
[3:54]wa ta'ala doesn't just want to tell us a story bedtime story
[3:58]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala wants us to learn wants us to benefit
[4:01]so that we can relate to other matters that are relevant to
[4:04]us in our time allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in the story that
[4:09]happened between prophet musa and khidr he shows us how a prophet
[4:13]or a wise man that's guided by allah can be in the
[4:17]state of gaiba meaning no one knows him no one knows his
[4:20]identity no one knows how he's helping but at the same time
[4:24]he could be very beneficial for his community how you've all read
[4:27]the story that happened between musa and khidr khidr we said he
[4:32]was either a prophet there's a the area this is the area
[4:35]of this dispute between the ulema and some say no he's not
[4:38]a prophet he was a wise man that was given knowledge by
[4:41]allah subhanahu wa ta'ala the holy quran says the story and our
[4:46]hadith say that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he ordered musa with his
[4:50]disciple yusha ibnu he ordered them to go and meet khivr because
[4:56]he was a wise man and he ordered them to learn from
[4:58]al khivr allah mentions the holy the whole the story in the
[5:02]holy quran allah mentions this they met they met khvar now khvar
[5:13]no one knew who khvar was he was just a normal man
[5:15]and that's why allah says abdul min ibadan he was just a
[5:17]servant of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he was in a state of
[5:20]gaiba meaning identity concealed no one knew that he was a prophet
[5:24]or a wise man that had knowledge and you've all read the
[5:27]story i'll quickly say it what happened when musa said i want
[5:30]to benefit from your knowledge khidr did three things that even musa
[5:34]who's a messenger of allah did not know what khidr was doing
[5:38]did not understand the first thing is what the first thing is
[5:41]that he sunk he put a hole in the boat the boat
[5:44]sank why to save the boat from that oppressive king he wanted
[5:48]to take it and then what and then he saved the two
[5:52]good parents because of their great ungrateful son he killed the ungrateful
[5:56]son because what he was dangerous for his parents this was number
[6:00]two and number three he built a wall to protect the money
[6:04]of the two orphans who had no one to look after them
[6:07]now the quran says that khidr did these three important things while
[6:12]no one was aware he helped all these people in the community
[6:16]he helped the parents he helped the orphan he helped those poor
[6:20]people that had that boat while they did not even know about
[6:24]it they were not aware even musa was not aware he's a
[6:28]messenger of allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he was not aware of how
[6:31]qidr is what of how qidr is helping the people while he
[6:35]was seeing qidr he was with qidr so allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[6:38]is trying to show us in the story of between prophet musa
[6:41]and khidr what that just because you cannot see the imam or
[6:45]a prophet or a wise man does not mean he's not helping
[6:48]people does not mean the imam has his special secretive ways of
[6:52]helping the people correct if khidr could do it secretly while no
[6:56]one was aware even musa wasn't aware why can't imam al mahdi
[7:00]do the same thing so we see how beautifully allah gives us
[7:06]the story of prophet qidr of prophet musa with khidr in the
[7:09]quran to show us that just because a prophet or imam is
[7:13]in the state of ghaiba does not mean he has no purpose
[7:17]does not mean he is useless so this is number one we
[7:19]have to always concentrate on the notion and concept of ghaiba ghaiba
[7:23]doesn't mean that imam is not with us it only means we
[7:25]can't recognize him this is number one number two the second concept
[7:30]that we have to fully understand is the concept of imam what's
[7:35]the concept of imam because many people say what type of imam
[7:39]is this if he's not here to help us if he's in
[7:42]hiding if he is in ghaiba how is he my imam imam
[7:45]should lead me imam should guide me so what type of imam
[7:48]in this is this now when we come to ahlus sunnah they
[7:53]define the imam if you if you were to ask the ahlus
[7:56]sunnah how do you find define the position of imam they will
[8:00]tell you the position of imam and the imam is the one
[8:05]that rules whoever rules whoever is in charge of the government he
[8:10]is your imam and that's why if you were to ask many
[8:13]of the ahlus sunnah who is the imam of your time do
[8:16]you not narrate the hadith of rasoolallah that says then who's the
[8:24]imam of your time they will tell you the king the prime
[8:27]minister the president the queen whoever whoever is in charge of the
[8:30]government the head of the government whoever is ruling then that person
[8:34]is my imam because their understanding of the position of imam means
[8:38]what means political position means whoever is in charge of the government
[8:43]now when we come to the school of thad of ahlul bayt
[8:45]you find a complete different definition of imam i have to first
[8:48]understand when i say this is my imam what do i mean
[8:51]by imam so that if i say imam is in ghaibah i
[8:54]don't say what type of imam is this is in ghaybah when
[8:57]we come to the school of thad of ahlul bayt we find
[9:00]that the imam is allah subhanahu wa ta'ala's decision to choose allah
[9:06]chooses someone and he will be the imam and the imam has
[9:09]many roles and functions and one of the small roles and functions
[9:14]of the imam is to what is to rule if it's possible
[9:17]if it's not possible he's still the imam the imam has so
[9:21]many other roles it's not just whoever is leading the government that's
[9:25]not the main role of the imam the imam has so many
[9:29]other roles and based on these roles of the imam we can
[9:33]understand the answer to our question tonight what is the purpose of
[9:38]imam al mahdi if he is in the state of ghaibah so
[9:41]we come and we say brother sister first do you understand what
[9:45]the role of the imam is and thus that's why you think
[9:48]that the gaiba is preventing the imam from practicing his role the
[9:52]gaiba is not preventing the imam from practicing his role because imam
[9:56]does not mean to lead the government does not mean the ruler
[10:00]this is just one job of the imam if it was possible
[10:04]so what's the job of the imam what's the purpose of the
[10:06]imam tonight i will mention to you three purposes at least three
[10:11]there may be infinite amounts of purposes imam al mahdi has but
[10:16]i'll purposes imam al mahdi has during but first the first purpose
[10:30]of our imam the twelfth imam in zaman al ghaybat al qubra
[10:34]is that imam al mahdi is what does this word mean what
[10:42]does this sentence mean what this basically means is that imam al
[10:50]mahdi and all the imams of ahlul bayt they are god's intermediaries
[10:55]between his benefactions and his creation what do i mean as sheikh
[11:04]muhammad taqi al isfahani one of our great ulama'i in his book
[11:08]miqi al makaram which is a very beautiful book whoever reads arabic
[11:12]i encourage you to read it it's two volumes about imam al
[11:15]mahdi in his book he says sometimes certain individuals ask me what's
[11:21]the purpose of al mahdi if he's in ghaiba he says this
[11:26]is such a silly question why he says this is such a
[11:31]silly question because i tell that person when your initial creation is
[11:37]in debt to imam al mahdi and the continuation of your creation
[11:41]is in debt to imam al mahdi you come and you ask
[11:44]what's the purpose of al mahdi isn't this rude and silly what
[11:49]does he mean he is speaking about al wasataf al fayd the
[11:53]imam of our time is al wasataf al fayd between us and
[11:57]allah now what does that mean this has two meanings the first
[12:02]meaning like a sheikh ahmad taqi says the first meaning is that
[12:07]if it was not for ahlul bayt allah would have never created
[12:11]us to begin with and then you come and say what's the
[12:14]purpose of imam mahdi if it wasn't for imam mahdi you would
[12:17]have never been born to begin with your entire initial existence is
[12:22]due to imam al mahdi now wait a minute where do we
[12:26]get this from many ahadith this is called al wasat al fayyid
[12:30]where do we get this from the most famous hadith is what
[12:33]you've all read it hadith al kisa sometimes we read it for
[12:36]barakah sometimes we have to what we have to read it to
[12:39]understand it we have to ponder upon the meanings what does allah
[12:43]tell ahlul bayt in hadith al kisaa you've all heard hadith al
[12:48]kisaa when prophet muhammad imam ali fatima hassan hussain they went under
[12:52]the kisaa the cloak and then jibrael came allah sent a message
[12:56]with jibrael to the holy prophet what did jibrael say he said
[13:00]allah tells you you muhammad have we not read hadith al kisaa
[13:27]what does allah tell the holy prophet i have not created the
[13:35]world and the skies and the moon and the stars and the
[13:38]sun and all existence but because of my love for muhammadan al
[13:43]muhammad if it wasn't for ahlul bayt allah wouldn't even bother creating
[13:48]me and then i come and i ask what's the purpose of
[13:51]ahlul bayt isn't this rude brother sister if it wasn't for imam
[13:56]al mahdi and the other imams of ahlul bayt you would not
[13:59]have been born allah wouldn't bother have created you he wouldn't have
[14:03]bothered to create you and then you come and ask what's the
[14:07]purpose of imam al mahdi your initial existence is due to imam
[14:12]al mahdi you're in debt to him the fact that you're alive
[14:15]and walking and breathing this is all because of allah's love of
[14:19]imam al mahdi if it wasn't for imam mahdi allah would have
[14:21]never bothered to create me and that's why in one hadith rasulullah
[14:25]he tells ali imam ali he tells him if it wasn't for
[14:41]us allah would not have created adam or hawa or the hell
[14:46]or the fire the hell in heaven he would not have created
[14:49]the world and any human being it was because of allah's love
[14:53]for us that he created every single human being now some may
[14:58]think that these hadith there's many of these hadith not just one
[15:02]or two that these hadith they contradict the quran why because allah
[15:07]what does he say in the quran allah says in the holy
[15:16]quran i did not create human beings and jinn but for them
[15:20]to what worship me the quran says allah created us so that
[15:23]we worship him you say according to these hadith that allah created
[15:28]us because of his love of ahlul bayt there's a contradiction correct
[15:31]no why is there not contradiction because allah in this verse the
[15:36]muftas sireen they have said allah subhanahu wa ta'ala is not saying
[15:40]why he decided to create us he is speaking about our role
[15:45]in this world now that i have decided to create you for
[15:48]whatever reason now your job is to what ibadah so if i
[15:53]were to ask allah created me what's my goal what do i
[15:57]do in this dunya do i just have fun and just relax
[15:59]no allah created you so that you worship him but why did
[16:03]he decide to create you and other human beings for the love
[16:06]of al bayt for the love of ahlul bayt but now that
[16:10]he created you he wants you to do ibadah so there's no
[16:14]contradiction between this verse and between these ahadith so this is number
[16:18]one of the first meaning of al wa sultaf al fayid that
[16:22]our existence our initial existence is due to ahlul bayt and imam
[16:27]al mahdi if it was for imam al mahdi i would not
[16:29]have been living today this is number one number two this is
[16:33]what is shaykh muhammad says he says number two the continuation of
[16:38]your existence it's also in that to imam al mahdi so it's
[16:41]not like allah created me because he loves ahlul bayt and then
[16:44]i tell ahlul bayt okay thank you i no longer need you
[16:46]anymore no every second of my existence that continues i need ahlul
[16:52]bayt every time i breathe it's because of the blessings of ahlul
[16:57]bayt and if it was not for ahlul bayt i could no
[17:01]longer continue living how this has two meanings the first meaning is
[17:07]we have many ahadith that state listen carefully brothers and sisters this
[17:11]is a delicate point we have many ahadith that state if allah
[17:16]were to take out the imam from the world for one second
[17:21]he were to remove the imam of our time he's an gaiba
[17:24]we can't see him we can't recognize him but if allah were
[17:28]to remove him for one second from the dunya the dunya would
[17:31]collapse this whole world as we know it would be destroyed and
[17:35]annihilated and we'd all be killed and this is not a hadith
[17:39]that we the shia now i know some of you may be
[17:41]thinking this is this guy what is he talking about we are
[17:45]making ahlul bayt like allah this is exaggeration correct come to the
[17:50]sunni books they narrate these hadith the book of musnad ahmed we
[17:57]all know ahmed ibn hambal what ahmed ibn hambal he is one
[18:00]of the four imams of the ahlus sunnah there's four schools of
[18:03]thought they have one of them is ahmed ibn hambal in one
[18:06]of his books by the name of sahaba he has a book
[18:10]called fala al sahaba you can find us on the internet today
[18:13]he narrates this hadith from rasulullah he says that rasulullah sallallahu alaihi
[18:18]wa sallam said this he says rasulullah according to ahmad ibn alhambah
[18:32]not the shia ahmad ibn alhambah the leader of the ahlus sunnah
[18:36]school of thoughts he says rasulullah said that the stars they are
[18:40]protection for whom for the people that live in the skies whom
[18:45]who lives in the skies maybe for example the angels the stars
[18:49]serve as protection for them meaning if the stars go will be
[18:53]destroyed that's why rasulullah says if the stars were to be taken
[19:00]away if they were gone then the people of the ahlusaba of
[19:04]the skies they could no longer continue living and then rasulullah says
[19:08]this and then he says in the same way that the stars
[19:21]they are protection for the people of the skies of mine they
[19:26]are protection for the inhabitants of earth if are taken away the
[19:32]people of the dunya they will all die none of them can
[19:36]live so is this the shia they're narrating or this is ahmad
[19:40]ibn hambal from rasulullah so now do we understand the position of
[19:44]imam al mahdi if allah were to take imam al mahdi out
[19:47]none of us can continue living this is from their sources when
[19:51]we come to our books we have many hadith about it i'll
[19:54]read you two hadiths one hadith from imam al baqir he says
[19:58]in one hadith he says one hadith he says he says if
[20:10]the imam were to be taken out of the dunya removed from
[20:13]the dunya in one hadith one hour in one hadith one second
[20:17]one second remove the imam imam al mahdi from the dunya what
[20:20]happens he says what will happen he says everyone will be destroyed
[20:29]what will happen to the dunya it will begin to shake and
[20:32]collapse just like in the middle of the ocean you see the
[20:36]high waves how do they keep coming left and right this is
[20:39]what will happen to the land this is what will happen to
[20:41]the earth it will completely shake and everyone will be killed this
[20:45]is the first hadith of imam al baqar the second hadith is
[20:48]of imam al mahdi himself one of the companions of the imams
[20:53]by the name of ishaqab i yaqub he sends a letter to
[20:57]imam al mahdi in zaman al ghaybat al sukhwa he asked the
[21:00]imam what's the purpose what's your purpose if you are in the
[21:04]state of gaiba we can't access you we can't reach you so
[21:08]what's your purpose he asked the imam directly the imam he writes
[21:12]back in the taqiyah he tells him what a beautiful hadith and
[21:35]then he says look at the beautiful hadith of imam al mahdi
[21:46]what does he say he says this he says in the same
[21:51]way that on a cloudy day you can't see the sun correct
[21:56]he gives this beautiful example analogy he says on a cloudy day
[22:00]can you see the sun no but does that mean the sun
[22:04]is not there does that mean the sun is not benefiting the
[22:08]world of course not just because you cannot see the sun doesn't
[22:14]mean the sun is not doing what it has to do just
[22:17]because i can't see the sun because of the clouds doesn't mean
[22:20]the sun is useless the sun as we've read in science and
[22:24]probably when you read this in elementary the sun is vital for
[22:28]our life if the sun turns off one day we all die
[22:31]we'll be too cold to live it'll affect the oxygen the ocean
[22:34]everything plants we can't live without the sun correct it's vital for
[22:38]our life imam al mahdi says me in my ghaybah i am
[22:42]just like the sun behind the clouds you can't see me you
[22:46]can't see the sun but the sun is vital for you even
[22:49]on a cloudy day i am vital for your existence even if
[22:53]i am in the gaiba that means without me life cannot continue
[22:57]even if you can't see me it doesn't matter if you see
[23:00]me or not and that's why many ahadith we have from the
[23:04]imams from rasulullah as well rasulullah was asked one day after he
[23:08]spoke of al mahdi he was asked by one of the sahaba
[23:11]then what's the purpose of al mahdi if he's in ghaibah rasoolallah
[23:14]he gave the same analogy he said al mahdi in his ghaibah
[23:18]is like the sun behind the clouds just because you cannot see
[23:21]the sun does not mean the sun is useless just because you
[23:25]cannot see al mahdi does not mean al mahdi is useless the
[23:28]sun is vital for your life on a cloudy day and al
[23:31]mahdi is vital for life when you cannot see him in the
[23:34]raibah this is the first meaning of al wasat hafal fayd meaning
[23:39]continuation we cannot continue to live without imam al mahdi the second
[23:44]meaning what's the second meaning the second meaning of the second meaning
[23:50]of we cannot continue to live without the existence of imam al
[23:54]mahdi is this the hadith of il baiy tell us that if
[23:59]it was not for imam al mahdi allah would punish us in
[24:02]this dunya for our sins go and read the quran how many
[24:06]tribes did allah punish them in the dunya because of their sins
[24:08]and disbelief noor didn't allah wipe out the people of nuh with
[24:12]the flood because they disbelieved lut didn't allah destroy them the people
[24:17]of prophet lut of prophet for example sha'ib prophet salih you have
[24:22]for example the people of prophet musa didn't allah destroy firaun and
[24:29]his people and so on and so forth we have so many
[24:31]messengers of allah when his people would disbelieve allah wouldn't wait till
[24:36]the day of judgment he would destroy them in this dunya what
[24:40]happened all of a sudden now how come allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[24:43]became so tolerant the people of rasulullah our prophet they disbelieve they
[24:50]tried to kill him they did this and that there's no adab
[24:53]there's no punishment right now it's been fourteen hundred years so much
[24:57]corruption today in the world so much oppression so much killing so
[25:01]much violence why doesn't allah just wipe out the evil ones the
[25:06]imam one of the imams he says in the beautiful hadith when
[25:10]he was asked about this he was asked why must there be
[25:15]an imam all the time why you al bayt say there must
[25:18]be an imam all the time the imam gave this beautiful answer
[25:22]he said because allah subhanahu wa ta'ala allah subhanahu wa ta'ala he
[25:32]has mercy upon us and forgives us because of the presence of
[25:36]the imam or the prophet and then the imam he read this
[25:40]verse where allah says allah tells rasulullah you rasulullah will not punish
[25:50]the people as long as you are amongst them the imam says
[25:53]we inherited this quality as long as one of the imams of
[25:57]ahlul bayt is alive allah will be tolerant because of the love
[26:01]of the imam you see how much we benefit from the imam
[26:05]how much we benefit from the existence of the imam and then
[26:08]we come and say how do i benefit from imam al mahdi
[26:10]how rude is that your existence the continuation of your existence the
[26:16]rahmah allah is all because of imam mehdi or else we don't
[26:20]deserve the rahmah of allah look at how much evil doesn't allah
[26:23]say as long as they do istighfar allah will not punish them
[26:32]most of the world right now do they do istighfar no so
[26:35]why doesn't the punishment come down of allah so much evil everywhere
[26:40]it's because of imam al mahdi we don't realize it because we
[26:44]can't see him but that does not mean the blessings and the
[26:48]barakat of imam al mahdi are not coming and that's why we
[26:51]the school of thoughts of ahlul baydashi'a we believe that every zaman
[26:56]every period there must be an imam so many ahadith the earth
[27:05]cannot be void and absent of an imam why because if you
[27:09]take the imam away life will not continue that's why imam al
[27:13]mahdi is the imam of my time without imam al mahdi life
[27:16]cannot continue so this is what this is the first purpose and
[27:20]this is called what al wasatafil faith meaning the existence and the
[27:25]continuation of my existence is all due to the ahlul bayt alaihi
[27:30]wasallam and imam al mahdi this is purpose number one purpose number
[27:35]two before i mention purpose number two that the imam serves in
[27:46]ghaybat al qubra is that imam al mahdi he is the guardian
[27:53]of our faith of our religion the school of thoughts of ahlul
[27:56]bayt the school of thought of his grandparents who is the guardian
[28:00]of this school of this this madhab it's imam al mahdi and
[28:05]one of the jobs of imam al mahdi in al ghibatul qubra
[28:09]is to preserve the faith is to what is to protect it
[28:14]from what from innovation and from deviating from the truth because sometimes
[28:21]the faith begins people begin to deviate like christians are they practicing
[28:25]christians like they were a thousand years ago no as time goes
[28:28]on what they begin to deviate deviate deviate that's why i always
[28:31]say that christian woman before go back in history they used to
[28:34]wear hijab now they don't wear hijab slowly they begin to what
[28:37]deviate from their religion because they want life to be simpler what
[28:41]prevents us muslims from deviating what prevents us shia from deviating it's
[28:46]been one thousand years salis imam asghari has gone so how can
[28:51]we make sure still following the same madhab the same teachings the
[28:57]same fiqh the same aqa'at of ahlul bayt after one thousand years
[29:03]imam al mahdi this is what he does he preserves the faith
[29:08]from innovation he preserves the faith from what from diverting and deviating
[29:16]how does imam al mahdi do that now first of all he
[29:19]may do it through mysterious ways that we are not aware of
[29:22]but second and most importantly imam al mahdi does that by guiding
[29:26]our ulama our ulama and our malaja imam al mahdi guides them
[29:32]and that's why you find anytime our ulama are not infallible they
[29:37]make mistakes correct one mistake here there after a thousand years you'll
[29:41]have a million mistakes who is the one ensuring he keeps the
[29:45]ulama in check and we don't deviate imam al mahdi he is
[29:48]our guardian he is waliyah amr al muslemeen he is the one
[29:51]that makes sure the true genuine faith and religion of rasulullah is
[29:57]always what is always genuine is always correct and is always he
[30:04]always protects it from these innovations and that's why imam al baqar
[30:08]al imam al baqar he says in one hadith he says he
[30:27]says allah will always put an alim in the world alim meaning
[30:31]the imam what's the job of this alim the alim he has
[30:34]knowledge he has he has what alim he's a scholar he has
[30:38]knowledge the job of the alim is anytime the believers let's say
[30:43]the ulama they begin to deviate because they make mistakes he brings
[30:47]them back on track and imam al mahdi does that by guiding
[30:50]the ulama through religious affairs and through sociopolitical affairs what do i
[30:55]mean let me give you an example of how imam al mahdi
[30:58]guides our ulama and religious affairs i'll tell you two stories story
[31:02]number one it's narrated that a shaykh al mufid he was the
[31:08]first marjah of us the shia he lived in the beginning of
[31:12]ghaybat al qubra so in the ghaybat al qubra the first merger
[31:15]was a sheikh al mufid he came a few years after ghaybat
[31:18]al sughwa he was a merger people would come to him he
[31:23]used to give them fatwa according to his understanding of the hadith
[31:27]it's reported that one day a villager came to a sheikh al
[31:31]mufid and he told a sheikh al mufid i have a question
[31:35]fiqh question i need your help what is it he met with
[31:39]a sheikh al mufid privately nobody knew about this only sheikh al
[31:43]mufid and the villager he told him we have in our village
[31:47]a woman died and she's pregnant there is a child in her
[31:51]stomach the child is still not probably formed well maybe four or
[31:55]five months something like that so here what do we do do
[31:59]we bury the child do we just leave the child and bury
[32:03]the mother or no we cut open the stomach subhanallah you see
[37:29]this alam when it's academic it's a it's a it's a you
[37:34]know basically it's a fiqh issue he goes to imam ali so
[37:37]i went and i told imam ali you ali ibn abi talib
[37:40]please help me you guide me he says i heard a voice
[37:43]from the grave of ali ibn abi talib say go to masjid
[37:47]al kufa and you will find the answer masjid al kufa he
[37:50]says i went to masjid al kufa i see a beautiful man
[37:54]a man that's so holy and i see him so much iman
[37:57]he told me asked me the questions i knew this can't be
[38:01]about imam al mahdi or one of the companions of imam al
[38:04]mahdi he said i asked the questions and he gave me the
[38:07]answers but do not tell anyone so you see how the imam
[38:10]guides the scholars now in certain situations the imam may directly meet
[38:14]the scholar because i mentioned a few nights ago most ulama they
[38:18]say in al ghaybatul qubra it is possible to see the imam
[38:22]but it's very difficult it's very rare only the ulama and the
[38:26]ones that are close to allah will have that honor maybe once
[38:29]or twice in their lives they can see the imam so it's
[38:31]possible so you see in certain times the imam may meet with
[38:35]the alim he may give him direct guidance at times he will
[38:39]do it indirectly like the story of a sheikh al mufid he'll
[38:41]send someone to correct the mistake or the imam may send signs
[38:45]to the alam that what you're doing is right or wrong or
[38:48]at times the imam could could do something as easy as what
[38:52]as whisper something good in the what in the head of the
[38:56]alim do we not believe that the shaitan iblees doesn't the quran
[39:01]say doesn't iblees whisper bad things in our ears does he or
[39:07]not if iblees can whisper bad things in my mind why can't
[39:12]imam al mahdi whisper good things in my mind why so many
[39:16]times maybe the ulama the decision they made or the fatwa they
[39:21]gave it was through the help of imam al mahdi he placed
[39:24]that thought in their mind so this is the guidance of the
[39:27]imam to our ulama in religious affairs you find sometimes in socio
[39:31]political or political affairs the imam may guide us he may guide
[39:35]the ulama how i'll give you one example there's a story of
[39:38]al mujadid al shiraazi mujadid al shiraazi who was a merger lived
[39:42]in the late 1800s he lived in samarah what happened one year
[39:48]in iran the qajar dynasty they were ruling the shah was from
[39:52]the qajar dynasty so the shah of iran he makes a deal
[39:57]with a british company one year a british company come to iran
[40:02]to grow tobacco there's a very famous story many of you may
[40:05]have heard about this to grow tobacco and sell tobacco in iran
[40:09]now during that time it was widely believed by the iranians and
[40:12]by the shia that this is what this is an evil scheme
[40:16]from britain they want to what infiltrate iran infiltrate the shia and
[40:21]they want to colonize iran and they'll you do it through what
[40:25]through coming and selling tobacco in iran so that's why the you
[40:29]know the religious the faithful they were so unhappy with this now
[40:33]al mujadid al shirazi he's al marjeel a'la the grand merger of
[40:37]the shia look at the guidance of the imam one of his
[40:41]students by the name of al fisharaki shaykh al fisharaki he comes
[40:45]to al mujahedd he says you are our marjer we love you
[40:49]we respect you but why are you silent do you not see
[40:52]what the british are doing to iran this is all a plot
[40:55]they want to take over they want to colonize us they want
[40:58]to what occupy us this is all an excuse the tobacco thing
[41:02]why are you silent are you afraid al mujadid the shirazi tells
[41:07]him no i'm not afraid but it's not easy if i say
[41:11]for example if i say something there may be it may backfire
[41:15]if i stay silent it may backfire this is a dilemma i'm
[41:18]still confused i don't know what to do and then it's narrated
[41:23]that the same day al mujadah al shirazi he went to the
[41:26]haram of al askariyayn and he met imam al mahdi in al
[41:30]haram of askariyayn because he asked allah to guide him and imam
[41:34]al mahdi gave him the order to give the fatwa he came
[41:37]out and he wrote the fatwa that everyone probably has heard of
[41:41]even though it's probably a hundred years ago but it's very famous
[41:44]the fatwa of al mujahid the shia'azi he came out and he
[41:47]wrote a fatwa for all the shia that followed him in iran
[41:51]it is haram for you to buy tobacco from this company boycott
[41:56]it and whoever buys or sells from this tobacco it's as if
[41:59]he has waged war against imam al mahdi famous fatwa subhanallah millions
[42:05]of shia and iran they boycotted the tobacco of the british company
[42:10]the british company went broke the shah he saw this is not
[42:13]going anywhere he broke the deal and the british went back to
[42:17]britain see how the imam guides our alama brothers and sisters it
[42:21]may be just one word that he tells our alama and that's
[42:24]why i always say years ago remember the fatwa of the and
[42:27]najaf when isis when they took muslim and then the they issued
[42:33]a fatwa that every shia and iraq they have to what they
[42:37]have to defend they have to go and fight jihad al kifai
[42:40]remember the fatwa who knows i say maybe imam al mahdi sent
[42:44]a sign to the marajah maybe he met them only allah knows
[42:47]but the point is keep in mind that imam al mahdi is
[42:50]there imam al mahdi has his eyes opened and imam al mahdi
[42:54]does take care of the school of thoughts and he does take
[42:57]care of the shia so this is the second purpose of the
[42:59]imam he preserves the faith and the shia by guiding the ulama
[43:05]and finally purpose number three is that the imam serves as a
[43:09]resort as a refuge for the shia to resort to how many
[43:14]times when we are distressed we don't know where to go to
[43:18]when we are being persecuted by the dalameen when we have a
[43:21]very difficult situation we have a sick person and the doctors say
[43:25]there is nowhere to go to how many stories have you heard
[43:29]those individuals go to imam al mahdi because he is what the
[43:32]door to allah do we not read in dua'an he is the
[43:39]door to allah how many times we go and we beg imam
[43:43]al mahdi we do to imam al mahdi and then imam al
[43:46]mahdi helps us you think imam al mahdi has forgotten us you
[43:50]think imam al mahdi has neglected us you think imam al mahdi
[43:54]has abandoned us if al khidr al khidr he was looking out
[43:59]for his people he saves a boat here he saves the life
[44:02]of these parents here and he saves the money of these orphans
[44:05]there if al khidr was able to do that why can't imam
[44:08]al mahdi do that for us how many times you unexpectedly see
[44:12]for example a stranger comes and helps you and he looks so
[44:16]holy how do you know imam al mahdi was not behind this
[44:20]how do you know imam al mahdi did not send this man
[44:22]do we not come across these situations you think imam al mahdi
[44:26]doesn't help us he helps us but we're not aware of it
[44:28]just like musa wasn't aware of the qudr just like the people
[44:31]of the time of qudr were not aware of his good actions
[44:34]imam al mahdi does help us and that's why in the letter
[44:37]that imam al mahdi sent to a sheikh al mufid beautiful letter
[44:41]i urge all of you to read it what does he tell
[44:43]him he tells him tell my shia that i have not forgotten
[44:50]them he tells him imam al mahdi tells sheikh al mufi tell
[45:06]the shia don't think that i don't know about you don't think
[45:10]that i have abandoned you no i know everything and if it
[45:15]was not for my efforts and my help wallahi yushia i would
[45:20]have been destroyed from many years ago look the shia of ahlul
[45:25]bayt for over a thousand years everyone is our enemies every government
[45:28]is our enemies the abbasid they kill shia the othmanis they kill
[45:32]shia every government right now looks to odia all these countries kill
[45:35]shia kill shia da'ish kill shia our books were destroyed our marajah
[45:39]were killed how is it that today you have three to 500,000,000
[45:44]shia around the world how everyone is our enemy the west is
[45:48]our enemy you guys are iran we're not your friends the sunni
[45:51]world is our enemy israel is our enemy who's our friend yet
[45:55]we're allah we're as alive as ever three to 500,000,000 shia all
[46:00]across the world don't you think imam al mahdi has a hand
[46:05]in this iran shia iraq bahrain shia the eastern promise in saudi
[46:09]arabia there's shia india there's shia go to lebanon shia in canada
[46:15]shia america did the shia spread when there's so much enemies against
[46:20]us and we're the minority you don't think imam al mahdi has
[46:24]a hand in this imam al mahdi says if it wasn't for
[46:26]my dua and my efforts we don't know what he does exactly
[46:30]but if it wasn't for his efforts he says you would have
[46:36]been what perished many years ago and that's why imam al mahdi
[46:40]is there for us just because i can't see him it doesn't
[46:43]mean imam al mahdi is not there to help me allah says
[46:46]about the angels in the quran allah says that i have entrusted
[46:56]certain angels to protect you to protect you from harm can we
[47:00]see the angels no but does that does that mean the angels
[47:03]are not protecting us no imam al mahdi is there and he
[47:07]protects us and he helps every single one of us but we're
[47:09]not aware of how he helps us just like the story of
[47:12]khidr i go back to the story of khidr keep the story
[47:14]of khidr in your mind you will understand the purpose of the
[47:17]imam and i will end with the story about eight hundred years
[47:21]ago this is a very famous beautiful story that happened in bahrain
[47:26]there was a governor in bahrain that was nasabi he was against
[47:31]the shia and his prime minister he was even more nasabi subhanallah
[47:36]just like now the king of bahrain is a nasabi and his
[47:39]prime minister's uncle they say he's worse than him so the prime
[47:43]minister he hated the shia and bahrain is always shia he hated
[47:47]the shia wanted to get rid of the shia so one day
[47:49]he comes up with a scheme an evil agenda plot what does
[47:52]he do he comes to the king the governor one day and
[47:56]he brings a pomegranate ramana he brings a pomegranate to the governor
[48:02]and he tells him look this is a miracle of allah what
[48:06]is it the king the governor he sees written on the pomegranate
[48:11]these words and then abu bakr omar uthman ali khalafa but how
[48:20]was it written not with pencil it was molded with the skin
[48:25]of the with the peel the skin of the of the pomegranate
[48:29]so it looks so natural as if allah grew it in that
[48:32]way it was molded in that way so he brings the what
[48:36]the pomegranate he says look allah has showed us a sign that
[48:40]the shia are wrong and we are right and that's why i
[48:43]say bring the shia i tell them to believe if they don't
[48:45]believe kill them all the governor he fell for it he says
[48:49]good idea he calls the ulama of the shia he tells them
[48:53]look look at this pomegranate allah has sent aside allah has telling
[48:56]you shia you're wrong he has the name of omar abu bakr
[48:58]azma they are the khulafa so i give you four options number
[49:02]one become sunni abandon shia and nothing will happen or number two
[49:07]you have to pay the jizya and live just like the christians
[49:10]and the jews you're no longer muslims or number three you have
[49:13]to give an answer a refutation to this another explanation to this
[49:17]pomegranate or number four if you want to stay shia then i
[49:22]will kill all the men and take your woman and children ask
[49:27]what are slaves the shia they said where did this come from
[49:31]what do we do now so they held an emergency meeting the
[49:34]shia of bahrain what do we do we're all gonna get killed
[49:37]how can we we know this is what a game we know
[49:39]this is a plot a scheme but how can we prove that
[49:42]so they hold an emergency meeting all the alama attend what do
[49:45]we do they decide that they have absolutely no resort but imam
[49:50]al mahdi they say let us ask imam al mahdi isn't he
[49:53]the imam of our time let imam al mahdi solve this problem
[49:57]for us so they choose the 10 of the best bahrainis they're
[50:02]the most noble and pious ones and then out of those 10
[50:05]they choose the best three so the most pious three they're always
[50:08]salah never sin holy masjid dua quran these three they decide the
[50:16]king told them the governor i give you three days and you
[50:19]have to choose they say each night we send one of these
[50:22]three he goes to the desert from the beginning of the night
[50:25]tell fajr he does dua and to imam al mahdi so that
[50:29]the imam would help us the first one goes comes back nothing
[50:33]second one goes comes back nothing the third one a man by
[50:37]the name of a sheikh mohammed ibn aisa demistani very well known
[50:41]and he has a grave a shrine that the bahrainis visit in
[50:44]bahrain he went he started to cry your shia will be killed
[50:51]please help us please come to our rescue he says all of
[50:54]a sudden it was close to fajr a man came from behind
[50:57]and he held my hand and he knew my name he told
[50:59]me you muhammad ibn 'ai said the mustani are you in this
[51:04]dire and desperate condition what do you need he told that man
[51:08]he told him i cannot tell you i can only tell my
[51:11]imam i can only speak to my imam he told him i
[51:14]am your imam tell me what you need sheikh muhammad told him
[51:17]if you truly are imam sahib al asri wa zaman then you
[51:21]know why i'm here i don't need to tell you you know
[51:24]the imam tells him yes i know why you're here it's because
[51:27]of the plot the scheme of the prime minister i know exactly
[51:30]what's happening he says what do we do we're gonna get killed
[51:32]imam al mahdi tells him i have the answer he tells him
[51:35]this evil prime minister he had made a container out of a
[51:39]container he had made a mold and he had carved out of
[51:43]clay and he had he had carved in it to those letters
[51:46]those words of amr abu bakr and then he took this container
[51:49]this mold he placed it around a small pomegranate as the pomegranate
[51:54]grew it was what it was written and carved in it and
[51:57]it got molded in it those words so it was it's easy
[52:00]it's easy anyone can do it so he says okay but how
[52:03]do we sheikh mohammed says how do we expose him imam al
[52:06]mahdi says that go to the governor tomorrow tell him i will
[52:10]answer you this is not a miracle is all a joke but
[52:13]you have to come to the house of the prime minister take
[52:16]the governor with you enter the house go in this certain room
[52:21]make sure that the prime minister doesn't enter before you because he
[52:24]will hide that container make sure you go before him the prime
[52:28]minister will insist to not enter insist to enter once you enter
[52:33]you will find a hole in the wall there is a white
[52:35]bag open the white bag you will find what you will find
[52:38]that mold go take the mold you will see subhanallah the pomegranate
[52:42]fits perfectly it was the work of this mold he says okay
[52:46]he goes to the governor he says let's to go the house
[52:47]of prime minister i'll answer you there they go there let's go
[52:50]in the room the prime minister says no no let's not go
[52:52]there you guys are wasting time you guys are changing the subject
[52:55]he insists the governor says let's go what's the heart he goes
[52:58]he takes out the mold he shows him look it's a scheme
[53:02]it's a plot of this evil man and he put this and
[53:05]then imam al mahdi said i will give you something to tell
[53:08]the governor to show that we are truthful tell him as a
[53:12]sign that we met imam al mahdi once you open this pomegranate
[53:17]you will find ash in it there is no pomegranate there's no
[53:19]seeds it's filled with ash so they went they saw this the
[53:24]governor he saw yeah there's a mold and then they told him
[53:27]open it you'll see ash he saw it was filled with ash
[53:30]there was no fruit inside this is when history says that the
[53:34]governor of bahrain he killed the prime minister he what he forgave
[53:39]all the shia and he also changed his to the school of
[53:43]thoughts of ahlul bayt this is one example this is one example
[53:50]of how imam al mahdi rescues us and how imam al mahdi
[53:53]helps the shia i ask allah to bless us it's almost time
[53:56]for adhan so i'll quickly finish to bless us accept our and
[54:00]to forgive us and to help us in following in the footsteps
[54:04]of
