[0:01][Music] foreign [Music] the human being is a creature that is confined
[0:30]and limited to this worldly existence this world of physics this world
[0:35]of matter but just because he is limited in this world it
[0:38]does not mean that other world worlds do not exist just because
[0:43]we are here doesn't mean there's nothing Beyond Where We Are it
[0:48]just simply means that our capabilities are limited there is the world
[0:55]of the Unseen that we may know we may not have the
[0:58]ability to view right now but that does not negate its existence
[1:04]you see brothers and sisters when a baby is formed in the
[1:08]womb of its mother the womb becomes the entire existence of that
[1:13]baby the world in the baby's perspective is just that womb and
[1:17]it's only through birth that that baby is introduced to this very
[1:20]world that we live in likewise this world that we are in
[1:24]there's a veil that protects it that covers it From Another Dimension
[1:33]another world just like that womb acted like a veil a barrier
[1:37]that protects the baby from this world that world is referred to
[1:42]as a glimpse in the Holy Quran Allah 64.
[1:47]what does he says this world that we live in it's a
[2:02]world of play of amusement but the Hereafter is indeed the real
[2:06]life if people if only people knew this barrier between us and
[2:13]that Unseen World is also referred to at a glimpse in the
[2:17]Holy Quran most of us who are not going to be able
[2:18]to know or see the Unseen World maybe those who have a
[2:24]high stage of piety might but the average human being is not
[2:26]able to do so until their demised until their death Allah also
[2:32]in Surat refers to that he says Allah says you were told
[2:45]totally heedless you were unmindful of this but now that we have
[2:49]lifted that Veil and your vision your vision is sharp you're able
[2:52]to see thoroughly once we die we see that afterlife the Unseen
[2:57]World that we do not know the question is right now how
[3:03]can we comprehend this unseen world we live in this physical world
[3:06]how can I comprehend this Unseen World that I cannot see with
[3:08]my own eyes that I cannot feel the means the bridge that
[3:14]brings these two worlds together that connects them is what is faith
[3:20]is Iman is belief that is the bridge through which we can
[3:23]connect this world with the Unseen World and Allah gifted us the
[3:30]nucleus the core for us to be able to make that connection
[3:34]he refers to this as fitra Instinct it is also known as
[3:41]an innate nature in English it's very hard to explain but it's
[3:45]like the innate nature it's something that you're gifted with in birth
[3:48]look at this verse and place your your the face here the
[4:01]face means the face of your heart place the face of your
[4:05]heart upright uplifted towards Allah and adhere to the true nature on
[4:15]which Allah has inspired and created human beings in another verse Allah
[4:20]says and that soul that Allah has created and he inspired it
[4:30]to that which is good and that which is evil so that
[4:37]very first seed of faith of knowledge is instinct is that Allah
[4:41]has placed into each and every one of us that is the
[4:46]first level of faith of belief of Iman is there another level
[4:48]of course how can I get to the other level and what
[4:53]is it the other level is that which transforms Instinct into intellect
[4:58]it trans forms you're able to gather information through pondering through researching
[5:04]through Reading and that allows you to develop a sense of understanding
[5:11]through which you can enhance your Faith or or your belief in
[5:15]order to do so you need to look at knowledge how can
[5:19]we get knowledge well Allah said prophets Messengers also through previous human
[5:24]experiences we are able to gather this information and enhance our sense
[5:28]of belief Allah also refers to that in the Holy Quran Allah
[5:43]those who Ponder upon God when they're standing when they're sitting on
[5:49]their on their sides and they look at the skies and the
[5:50]heavens and they say oh Allah glory be to you please allow
[5:55]us to prevent us from the Hellfire pondering here is the key
[6:02]through this pondering through this knowledge that seed that Allah gave you
[6:08]you're able to establish its roots and its branches now you have
[6:13]a solid foundation your Iman like we said moved from an instinct
[6:17]to intellect from innate nature to knowledge now the question is is
[6:22]that it is that the final stage for us to just have
[6:27]knowledge and Faith the answer is no that's not the final stage
[6:29]what is the final stage what's the Pinnacle what's the last stage
[6:36]in this journey of upliftment of transcension you see brothers and sisters
[6:40]it is one thing for us to know something but it's it's
[6:44]another thing for us to feel it to sense it to live
[6:48]it this is through Iman this is the highest level of Iman
[6:51]to transform the knowledge the intellect to an emotional stage or an
[6:55]emotional state sorry where we where we through our organs our limbs
[7:01]our full body we interact with that faith it becomes a fuel
[7:07]to turn static knowledge into action that's the Pinnacle of faith for
[7:14]example Allah talks about a group of people were either there are
[7:34]amongst those people who when they listen to the to the wahi
[7:38]to the Revelation that is coming upon the holy prophet you see
[7:41]their eyes start flowing with tears see their knowledge transformed into an
[7:46]emotional stage they're living these verses they're not just listening to them
[7:50]they're not static like the chairs they're sitting on no they're living
[7:54]these emotions so it transforms on their faces on their limbs on
[8:00]their bodies that is the level of faith that we need to
[8:04]develop and that's why you hear some of the duas we say
[8:08]for example oh Allah grant us the sweetness of faith or for
[8:16]example the holy prophet would tell Bilal when Bilal he is the
[8:22]person who would recite the Adan before the Salah the prophet says
[8:27]give me Comfort see he has the faith transformed into an emotional
[8:31]state this is what we need to do this is basically One
[8:37]Step seed is grown rooted the branches come out the fruits is
[8:41]that living that emotional state you might say I it might not
[8:51]be necessary at least I have knowledge we all here believe in
[8:55]God correct but if I tell you I believe in God but
[8:58]I don't want to pray I don't want to fast is my
[9:02]Iman complete or no no it's not complete because there is an
[9:08]obligation on me to perform certain rituals certain acts for me to
[9:12]Showcase that belief and demonstrate it into action Faith brothers and sisters
[9:18]is always sweet like honey always was always is but our ability
[9:22]to taste the sweetness depends on us you see when covet hit
[9:28]a lot of us lost our sense of smelling and tasting so
[9:29]in that state if I were to give you honey you'd say
[9:34]it's tasteless I don't smell nothing but does that mean honey itself
[9:37]is not sweet no honey is always sweet but your ability in
[9:43]that stage or in that state was limited you were confined and
[9:46]that's why you couldn't taste the sweetness likewise Faith Iman belief is
[9:52]always sweet but it all depends on our interaction with it feel
[9:56]it and sense it and live it now after establishing this premise
[10:06]and ancho allow me to discuss these following Four Points inshallah as
[10:09]quickly as possible number one what are rituals these are referred to
[10:17]in the Holy Quran what are they what purpose do they serve
[10:20]number two why is the visitation of Imam Hussain considered to be
[10:27]a ritual and more importantly why this emphasis on Hussein yeah specifically
[10:32]we have a lot of imams why Imam Hussain specifically we have
[10:36]this emphasis on visiting him number three let's let's establish an understanding
[10:42]that you know of Imam Hussain is the ritual is there any
[10:47]benefit in US performing the animal polygrimage in urban towards Imam Hussain
[10:51]is there any purpose that we're gaining from this or is it
[10:55]just a show-off to show the media that we are big in
[10:58]numbers is there any purpose number four what is the link between
[11:03]and the Imam of our time and his reappearance I'll try to
[11:10]tackle these points after Allah Muhammad number one what are rituals rituals
[11:16]in Arabic means in English rituals to be close to their exact
[11:22]meaning it means like a sign a landmark it is it is
[11:27]something that is used to give an indication to a bigger thing
[11:32]which is in this case religion when a landmark is set for
[11:37]a purpose this Landmark is intended to be used to define a
[11:40]path towards that purpose so Shahira is like a sign of God
[11:44]Allah refers to that obviously in the Holy Quran and the first
[11:50]thing that comes to mind probably is this act that we perform
[11:56]doing um it's amongst the signs of Allah there's also another verse
[12:01]in the Holy Quran which is more broader Allah says see the
[12:14]connection between performing rituals and increasing the piety of the heart so
[12:20]we see there's a connection between rituals and piety and increasing our
[12:24]faith so this philosophy of a ritual is connected to the introduction
[12:31]we just made it is the transformation of Faith from a mental
[12:33]image to an emotional image now do rituals have a bigger or
[12:39]greater definition yes a lot of Scholars say rituals number one they
[12:42]have to be performed in congregation so you have to do them
[12:48]collectively as a group it's like a repeated routine that you do
[12:50]in a specific time in a specific Place collectively as a group
[12:55]of people for example in the Holy Quran the prophet Ibrahim says
[12:59]is performed individually is this Collective group Collective effort so they say
[13:08]rituals depend on that number two the purpose of a ritual the
[13:13]goal of it is to connect us with the world of the
[13:16]Unseen it's a pathway to the world of dancing some rituals like
[13:19]I said like for example throwing the stones the Pebbles on and
[13:24]the devil or doing tawaf circulating around the Kaaba what resemblance does
[13:32]that make I can say I'm a Serv I'm a servant of
[13:37]God but it is through circulating around the Kaaba that you embody
[13:41]that servitude towards God and show him that I have left everything
[13:45]for you and this is the center of my life and I
[13:50]rotate around your goals and principles of Allah this is a ritual
[13:53]is done collectively so now from this very root and philosophy we
[14:01]derive why visiting Imam Hussain alaihissalam is a ritual it is why
[14:07]and what purpose story does the shaira do it's again to transform
[14:15]our understanding of Hussein from an intellectual understanding to an emotional understanding
[14:19]so just like how we live faith we live Hussein we breathe
[14:22]Hussain we live Hussein that's the goal of these rituals to enhance
[14:28]our bond our emotional attachment to Imam Hussein so we cannot read
[14:31]him as a page in a book or not visit his Shrine
[14:35]as a grave of a body that is just buried but a
[14:39]place where the Angels fight and bless that Dome and that Shrine
[14:44]with their presence it's just it's a it's a sanctuary it's a
[14:48]holy land where the dust and the soil is Holy it's so
[14:52]holy that the holy prophet himself would smell and kiss tell me
[14:56]when did the holy prophet ever do that act other than when
[14:59]he was introduced to the soul of karbala this shows that there
[15:04]is some greatness miraculous greatness to Imam Hussain alaihissalam that miraculous greatness
[15:08]whereby 14th centuries after his martyrdom his remembrance just doesn't just stay
[15:14]as it is status quo but it keeps ascending up and up
[15:18]so it is as if through his death he lived and it
[15:23]is as if through the life of his enemies they have died
[15:25]and diminished and no one remembers them now a the showroom do
[15:39]not say to those who die in the way and the path
[15:43]of Allah that they are dead but they are alive but what's
[15:47]the problem you do not feel their presence you do not sense
[15:53]their presence but if you enhance your knowledge and your faith like
[15:56]I'm saying you are going to be able to sense Imam Hussain
[16:00]so that when you go and visit his shrine you believe truly
[16:05]that he is going to respond to you like we say in
[16:08]the ziara we believe that he is alive we believe that he
[16:13]will interact with us one way or another in the ziara of
[16:20]the middle of Shaban we say I bear witness that you are
[16:29]the light of God you have never been extinguished nor will you
[16:33]ever be what a miraculous nature this Hussein has and the prophet
[16:40]gifted us all here with the gift that he prophesied he anticipated
[16:44]he predicted long before his own death when he says it is
[16:53]in the death of Hussein Hussain what about and the death of
[16:59]Hussain is a source of heat that will never cool down you
[17:05]see that emotional description that the holy prophet gave to a certain
[17:09]group of people who are followers and lovers of Hussein I promise
[17:13]that every one of you has that heat inside them when you
[17:18]see the images and the videos in today at karbala you feel
[17:21]in grief this is my home 364 days in the year but
[17:27]today I feel I'm a stranger here I feel like I'm supposed
[17:29]to be in karbala today I feel like Allah didn't grant me
[17:35]the blessing of being amongst the 20 million the war of Imam
[17:39]Hussein but I feel it and I have a sense of grief
[17:45]and that's why I'm here today and that's why you all are
[17:49]here today so as we say in Arabic now the visitation of
[17:57]Imam Hussain alaihissalam why is there so much emphasis on it why
[18:02]Imam Hussain in particular firstly you all need to understand that this
[18:06]visitation is not a bit I like some people say it's not
[18:11]an innovation that was introduced a century or two ago visitation towards
[18:15]the grave of Imam Hussain started very shortly after his martyrdom in
[18:21]fact today in the arbain our narration state that I'm sorry the
[18:28]holy prophets companion what's the first visitor towards the the grave of
[18:33]Imam Hussain and he has very touching words and we also believe
[18:36]that the camp of Imam Hussein led by zainab and Imam also
[18:42]came back on the 40th Day but furthermore there's also a very
[18:45]interesting narration I found by Imam who was talking to one of
[18:53]his companions asking about certain scenes that he heard about in karbala
[18:57]listen to this conversation says he's asking His companion it has come
[19:08]to my attention that people visit Imam Hussain from the districts of
[19:15]kufa and people from elsewhere and there are women that lament for
[19:22]him and amongst them are those totally Stoli storytellers who are narrating
[19:30]yakos or a reader who is reading or Elementor who is Mourning
[19:41]he's asking His companion I've heard that these are some of the
[19:44]scenes did you see them what does the companion says may I
[19:52]be ransomed for you yes I have witnessed these scenes in Imam
[19:59]sadak's time what does Imam say for that alhamdulillah glory be to
[20:07]God who has created certain people who would flow to us foreign
[20:15]and those who praise us and sympathize with us and made our
[20:25]enemy slander and object to them tell me these words don't they
[20:33]just feel like Imam is with us today so is the visitation
[20:37]something was born today or was centuries and centuries ago ever since
[20:41]the martyrdom of Imam Hussain now despite this historic tradition again if
[20:46]you look at you look at our Traditions you'll notice that there's
[20:51]so much emphasis on the visitation of Imam Hussain it's unreal it's
[20:54]like we are favoriting Imam Hussain there's over 20 different times during
[20:58]the year where we are encouraged to do ziara towards Imam Hussain
[21:02][Music] we're asked to visit Imam Hussain and sometimes we link the
[21:14]reward to that visitation as if we're performing why now there is
[21:21]many reasons towards this of course the core reason is the source
[21:26]of the Revival of the ummah and he was the source of
[21:35]the Reformation of the religion Reformation not revolution revolution is a is
[21:40]a political regime you just want to change the regime and that's
[21:45]it is changing the community from the ground up destroying the current
[21:49]foundation and building a new one for the entire community that is
[21:53]Islam so that's what Imam Hussain did and the prophet said which
[21:58]we can understand Hussain is from the holy prophet because the prophet
[22:03]is his grandfather what does that mean what does that mean the
[22:07]prophet is from Hussein there's many different meanings but one of them
[22:13]is that the the continuation of the message of the holy prophet
[22:16]was not possible without the sacrifice of Imam Hussain because brothers and
[22:22]sisters in that very short time after the martyrdom of Imam Ali
[22:25]the umaids played so much politics that people were surprised that Imam
[22:33]Ali would even pray they were so into corruption into seeking higher
[22:41]positions that they were there was no room for love or attention
[22:44]to the family of the holy prophet there was so much corruption
[22:47]when we are visiting Imam Hussain today we are just signifying a
[22:50]symbolic participation in the Battle of karbala we're walking in the very
[22:57]steps of the Holy Imam in his fight and his journey fighting
[23:01]truth against falsehood we're just doing a symbolic participation in that some
[23:09]people participated with their blood some people with their voice some people
[23:13]with their money but some people with just their mere walk that's
[23:15]why some of the narrations say if you visit Imam Hussain on
[23:18]the day of Ashura it's as if you were amongst those who
[23:21]fought with him and in doing that walk or that visitation you
[23:27]are passing the torch of Hussein from one generation to another and
[23:31]that's what kept her saying a living reality today because there was
[23:35]so much persecution so the sheer out of the little bit the
[23:39]lovers of their faced from the time of his martyrdom if it
[23:44]wasn't for the constant visitation of the shrine of Imam Hussain or
[23:47]the grave back then the remembrance of Imam Hassan would have diminished
[23:52]the omeyads were playing a propaganda they're saying Hussein caused disunity in
[23:59]the ummah because of Hussein he revolted against the caliph innocent people
[24:03]died they're trying to change the narrative so what did the helmet
[24:09]do if you notice Imam they've instilled certain Reflections in our ziaras
[24:16]that sometimes we ask why are we even mentioning it why do
[24:20]we say in this do we not know that Imam Hassan established
[24:27]religion or established prayer and he enjoined good and avoided evil why
[24:34]do we say do we not know the lineage of Imam Hussain
[24:44]but it's the Elevate fighting that propaganda reminding people this these principles
[24:51]that you think exist today they're because of that very man that
[24:55]you think is an enemy it was a constant reminder about the
[24:59]imams to make sure your connection with Hussein stays intact and firm
[25:06]some tyrants in the Abbasid and umayya Dynasty didn't stop there not
[25:12]just the intellectual persecution there was also physical if you want to
[25:17]visit Hussain like mutawakil times we've got to cut one of your
[25:22]limbs your arm or your feet Imagine One visitation equals one of
[25:25]your arms or feet why he's just a dead body in a
[25:32]grave why are you scared what harm does it make for someone
[25:35]to visit a grave it's because that grave was not just any
[25:40]grave it was a beacon where people would be charged up uplifted
[25:43]it's a compass where every Tyrant feels that there's going to be
[25:49]a revolution against their tyranny and oppression that's why they were fighting
[25:53]it and again that's why the imams also were insisting in reminding
[25:58]people no matter what they were instilled and motivate people to go
[26:06]by reminding them of these rewards so that this connection and chain
[26:09]towards Hussain doesn't die and this is how that love reached us
[26:15]today or else it's a miracle that we're here remembering Hussain believe
[26:18]me the amount of Bloodshed and people that died in that path
[26:22]in that journey is countless but it's their Miracle why Allah Hussein
[26:31]is a as a source of flight of guidance towards God no
[26:37]matter what anybody tries to do to extinguish that they will fail
[26:44]now is there a need for an animal pilgrimage walking does it
[26:52]serve any purpose we accept we are going to visit Imam Hussain
[26:55]by why arba in is there any benefit that we can gain
[27:00]from doing so obviously there are many benefits but I took so
[27:03]long so I'm going to be brief and I will try to
[27:06]highlight some of them one of them is as we mentioned briefly
[27:09]it is highlighting the Injustice and the oppression that the salaam has
[27:16]faced and there's it's one thing for for you to stand alone
[27:19]and scream you're only going to be heard so far but when
[27:25]you collectively group when you collectively go as a group of 20
[27:29]million people even if you're silent your voice will be heard it'll
[27:33]be sensed it'll be felt so it's a Revival of the principles
[27:39]that Imam Hussain has fought for number two there is a great
[27:43]social implication and benefit from participating in Albany you see arbain is
[27:48]the platform whereby people as we see in the videos these days
[27:51]from different nationalities and backgrounds and all parts of the world gather
[27:54]together under the love and banner of Imam Hassan sharing their conditions
[27:59]it also gives us all a sense of proudness a sense of
[28:08]belongingness that we cannot feel elsewhere can you imagine walking alone in
[28:12]the street or walking with 20 million people sharing the same beliefs
[28:17]and values so we need to spiritually charge up sometimes we feel
[28:21]lonely especially in the west going there seeing the bigger picture gives
[28:24]us a lot of Hope number three an ethical dimension I personally
[28:30]believe that the the Walk of arbain is a small imaginary glimpse
[28:35]of into what life could be in the presence of the Imam
[28:42]of our time how because like Abu zainab said the the transactions
[28:47]in our materialistic world are all flipped usually people want to get
[28:53]they want to do the least and get the most there it's
[28:56]the opposite people want to give the most and get the least
[28:59]you see the kid here you you might beg him to come
[29:03]to the center there the kid begges you to just come and
[29:07]sit in his house and drink from his water it's just different
[29:09]and the currency there like uncle said is nothing but the love
[29:16]of Hussein that's just the currency you hold it you're free to
[29:19]go you can go empty pocket and Imam amongst the signs of
[29:26]his time some narration state that the Believers would put their hands
[29:29]into each other's pockets and they would take and it would be
[29:31]okay that's how much trust and confidence and love they have amongst
[29:34]each other and we don't see that throughout the year but only
[29:38]in the Walk of so it's a live demonstration of the principles
[29:41]that Imam Hussain fought for from from Sacrifice from Love from dedication
[29:48]from mannerism we see that there and again the last part is
[29:57]the ideological dimension our kids now struggle to have an identity they
[30:01]struggle to have a personality to look up to or find where
[30:06]they fit so when you when you take your kids there you
[30:08]pass on that love of Hussein the emotional attachment from one generation
[30:15]to another you're passing that torch you're participating in that chain of
[30:24]sacrifice that preserved the name of Hussain so this blessed walk is
[30:28]a reminder about the miraculous reformation and revolution of Imam Hussein that
[30:35]surpassed both the bounds of space and time and that's why his
[30:43]message never died his light was never dimmed and his remembrance was
[30:47]never diminished back to my first point about our intrinsic nature in
[30:53]our fetra ask the majority of humans today they all believe one
[30:58]way or another that there is a savior that's going to come
[31:01]at the end of time to promote Justice and equality and Reformation
[31:05]the name might be different but the principle exists this is in
[31:11]our this is in our nature the question is now our connection
[31:19]and faith and bond with the Imam is it an intellectual one
[31:22]or is it an emotional one where we feel the presence of
[31:28]our Imam in these days do we feel his presence does he
[31:30]cross our mind not even a day a week or a month
[31:34]do we even feel like he exists we know that he exists
[31:36]intellectually based on our knowledge we know hundred percent he exists but
[31:42]do we have an emotional attachment do we live the Imam of
[31:45]our time what do we say in the dot benefit you're never
[31:53]separated from us you're always with us but do we feel it
[31:56]don't ask yourself where is the Imam of my time because he
[32:02]is always here the question is where am I and how far
[32:07]I am from him do you feel his loneliness in these days
[32:10]what is the Imam of our time doing these days he's mentioned
[32:15]it his connection his attachment his grandfather because he started a joining
[32:30]of reformation and it was paused but it's a gradual reformation and
[32:33]Imam will come is to continue that same message so when we
[32:41]visit Imam Hussain it's like a second where we renew our Allegiance
[32:45]to Imam Hussain through Imam al-mandi we go there we renew our
[32:53]Allegiance even through our ziara what do we say foreign foreign with
[33:10]you and I follow whatever you follow what do we also say
[33:23]s Hussein the symbol the slogan that Mohammed is saying thar here
[33:35]is not a personal Vengeance because Imam Hussain doesn't represent a family
[33:40]it's Vengeance for the truth for the principles of the holy prophet
[33:42]and we need to be part of that movement part of that
[33:45]Vengeance and that's why we always renew the allegiance with Imam when
[33:51]we visit Imam Hussein so I ask Allah to mix among amongst
[33:55]those who feel and sense Imam Hussain feel and sense the presence
[34:00]of the Imam of our time so that we might be amongst
[34:02]those that I will share this last Hadith that is referenced or
[34:09]related to a saying by Imam who describes those who will be
[34:18]the companions of Imam in our era today what does Imam say
[34:24]in uh the people of the time of the occultation are the
[34:34]best of all people why foreign God gave them in terms of
[34:48]intellect understanding and knowledge of they had so much knowledge that this
[34:53]occultation means nothing it's as if they always see the Imam amongst
[34:58]them they always feel his presence it says if the Imam is
[35:03]not even in occultation they're as if though they are like those
[35:08]who were giving their souls and fighting beforehand the holy prophet peace
[35:15]be upon him they are truly the sincere followers that Advocate to
[35:30]him in public and private may Allah make us amongst those people
[35:37]may inshallah we continue serving the path of Hussain in our emotions
[35:46]in our actions in our intellect and Instinct so when we go
[35:49]to the day of judgment and we Face his mother said we
[35:54]don't come embarrassed more than what we're already embarrassed with our sins
[35:59]we can say oh mother we try to give our best to
[36:03]serve your son Hussein and the message of Hussain so please grant
[36:07]us your intercession and allow us to be amongst those who are
[36:09]able to visit Hussain in this Dunya and in the Unseen World
[36:16]in the foreign [Music]
