[1:16]imam sadiq when he was training his companions and his students actually
[1:32]some scholars have dedicated their time to actually recording down the names
[1:38]of the students of imam musaddiq alaihi musalam alaihi salam and and
[1:44]they recorded down the names of 4,000 individual their names are written
[1:51]down one of the ulama or the scholars may allah bless his
[1:57]soul he started writing the encyclopedia of imam asadaq saddiq alaihis alaihi
[2:01]musalam salam and then he died may allah bless his soul he
[2:04]died his sons continued and they managed to dedicate some volumes for
[2:13]the names of the of the students of imam asadaq and they
[2:17]wrote down their names and those are considered as trustworthy so individuals
[2:23]who actually not just narrate the hadith and you discredit them these
[2:27]are the trustworthy individuals who can trust their hadith from imam musaddah
[2:32]alaihis salam which is a huge number but imam alaihis salam didn't
[2:38]just teach he was building before i stated that the madhab of
[2:49]ahlul baytiy alaihi musalam some writers say that this is the madhab
[2:55]of jafar ibn muhammad al saddiq which is established by jafar ibn
[2:59]muhammad al saddiq again we wanna clarify that the madhab is not
[3:05]established by jafar ibn muhammad al saddiq the madhab is established by
[3:12]rasulullah is the one who established the madhab he is the one
[3:17]who laid the foundation of the madhab imam al saddiq alaihi wa
[3:21]salam all he did is he completed the and perfected the building
[3:27]of rasulullah sallallahu alaihi wa'alehi he had an opportunity where he could
[3:33]perfect it you know sometimes when you build a building if you
[3:36]leave it standing for too long you have to do some maintenance
[3:40]so imam al saddiq alaihis salam had that opportunity to do the
[3:43]maintenance work he had that opportunity so in the process he started
[3:49]transforming that knowledge to the people to the public but when he
[3:56]was transforming this he was not just teaching knowledge to them and
[4:00]just giving building scholars no he was building individuals and so one
[4:07]of the hadith that is mentioned by many lecturers and scholars that
[4:17]many of you have heard is the hadith of imam al saddaf
[4:20]that states be a source of pride for us and do not
[4:34]be a source of embarrassment for us so that when people look
[4:41]at you they say this is how jafar ibn muhammad disciplined his
[4:47]shia or his companions now we wanna spend some time on this
[4:54]hadith a little bit we hear it a lot but let's look
[4:57]a little bit into the meaning of this hadith what does it
[5:00]really entail before i get into the meaning of this hadith i
[5:07]just wanna mention an introduction and that is there is a hadith
[5:12]of rasulullah that says ali and i are the parents of this
[5:21]nation are the fathers of this nation sorry ali and i are
[5:26]the fathers of this nation now one of the duties of a
[5:31]father is to care for his children to take care of their
[5:39]children of his children make sure to guide them what is right
[5:44]and what is wrong that is a duty of the father for
[5:48]example if you read the the charter of rights by imam al
[5:54]sajjad he says one of the rights of the son or the
[5:59]child over his father the child also has rights one of them
[6:04]for example is that he names him a good name that is
[6:08]a right so a caring father has to even think of this
[6:13]the name should be a good name starts from that that point
[6:17]even before he's born or when he is born the name that
[6:21]is given to him that is important you know my father says
[6:26]that you know we're talking about fifty years ago or so in
[6:30]baghdad there was a juice maker somebody who used to sell juices
[6:34]and he says this had the best juice in in the city
[6:37]of baghdad you know we're talking about many many years ago and
[6:41]it said masherubat al hajj zubala which is the juices of haji
[6:49]zubala which means garbage haji garbage and that his name was zubala
[6:54]now of all the names the parents chose this name for whatever
[6:58]reason i don't know maybe the father had lots of children and
[7:01]finally is having one more is like you know this is anyways
[7:06]so sometimes you have unfortunately these mentalities and even here you know
[7:11]why go far why go fifty years ago even here you have
[7:15]children who are born and instead of naming them mahmud ahmed ali
[7:19]we have so many imams mashaallah and so many titles of the
[7:22]imams alihamu salaam the best of the names is the one that
[7:28]starts with the abd of so and so abdullah abdul hamid abdul
[7:32]med and so and so the names of the prophet the names
[7:37]of ahlul bayt it's mustahab you find people naming some strange names
[7:43]i don't know where they come from in the dream they see
[7:45]them or whatever anyways so this is the beginning a caring father
[7:51]starts like taking care of these things and ahlul baytta alaihi musalam
[7:58]were also these caring parents caring fathers of the nation of the
[8:03]ummah and so a father wants his children to be in the
[8:09]perfect state they teach them what is right and what is wrong
[8:14]do this and don't do that not only in matters for example
[8:19]of religion no you find them going further for example a father
[8:23]would teach his sons or his daughters his children don't eat for
[8:28]example junk food eat healthy food it's good for you a caring
[8:34]father would do this you find our imam is doing the same
[8:38]imam al saddiq alaihis salam for example imam al saddiq there is
[8:44]a book written called medicine of imam al saddiq where he describes
[8:52]many things the benefits of several fruits for example what benefits they
[8:57]have in one hadith in that book he states do not take
[9:06]medicine if your body can withstand the pain if the pain is
[9:13]very minor that your body can withstand it don't take medication for
[9:18]it he says bear with it until it goes away if not
[9:24]then yes go ahead now fourteen hundred years later we have doctors
[9:31]and medical individuals who say yes every medication today take a look
[9:37]at every medication you go by they'll tell you the pharmacist will
[9:41]come and say you know there are some what side effects there
[9:45]are some side effects to this medication yeah and if it's if
[9:51]you can avoid it yes better better to avoid it but if
[9:56]you can't you need to take it now of course the saying
[10:00]doesn't go very well with pharmaceutical industry know they they don't like
[10:03]this hadith but nonetheless it comes with some side effects so if
[10:09]it's better to stay away from it away from it imam as
[10:12]salaf said it fourteen hundred years ago medication yes if it's necessary
[10:17]take it but if you can don't take it avoid it there
[10:21]will be side effects so a caring father a caring individual that's
[10:27]how he looks after the children and that's how imam our imams
[10:32]were including imam osada when he comes to this hadith he says
[10:42]be a source of pride for us and do not be a
[10:47]source of shame and embarrassment a father sometimes when his son does
[10:54]something wrong his son for example a child goes takes a rock
[11:00]and throws it at the neighbor's windows and breaks it so the
[11:05]parent will come knock at the door and say know your son
[11:09]just broke my window the father will say i'm very sorry about
[11:14]that now why is the father apologizing he didn't do anything the
[11:20]son did it's not his fault it's not the father's fault but
[11:26]the father takes the pain he says you know what i was
[11:30]the one that should have disciplined my son better this embarrassment is
[11:36]reflected on me and hence the father will say i apologize you
[11:42]know sometimes the father will say you know what khalas he broke
[11:44]it he's a child go and it'll give you a punch in
[11:46]the face probably too and some parts of the world mashaallah that's
[11:49]what they do as well so but a caring father a caring
[11:55]individual somebody who's responsible that's what we do he'll apologize know repair
[11:59]whatever it is and ahlul bayt alaihi musalam say the same thing
[12:03]they say you know what you people are like our children we
[12:08]want you to be a source of our pride not a source
[12:11]of our embarrassment so this hadith from one angle it shows us
[12:19]how caring are with their nation with their shia with their followers
[12:27]the second point is it shows us that ahlul baytia alaihi musalam
[12:33]were not just responsible for teaching us fiqh and usool and the
[12:38]aqam of religion no they were responsible for raising individuals who can
[12:45]establish a successful society individuals who are perfect they expected somebody who
[12:53]is in the state of perfection one day imam al saddiq alaihis
[13:00]salam was walking with one of his companions this companion had a
[13:10]servant the servant went missing he looked he found his servant is
[13:16]gone he's missing so he kept looking for him and then the
[13:21]servant came back after a little while this companion of imam got
[13:28]upset that how can you go without telling me you just disappear
[13:33]in the middle of nowhere he called him a bad name reflecting
[13:40]his mother the servant's mother he used a bad language imam al
[13:47]saddiq alaihis salam it is said that he became so angry he
[13:52]told this man he said i thought you had some taqwa you
[13:56]had some piety and that's why i'm walking with you but apparently
[14:02]you don't really respect the meaning of piety and taqwa the piety
[14:05]has not really gone into your heart or is not stemming from
[14:09]your heart it is just on your limbs it's not coming from
[14:14]the heart because if it is coming from the heart you would
[14:17]not have said the word like this how can you use such
[14:22]a language against his mother started becoming defensive he said you have
[14:29]not rasulullah but he his mother is not a muslim even she's
[14:34]not a muslim she's from you know different part of the world
[14:37]they're not muslims and their their wedding and their marriage is not
[14:42]accepted that wedding so everything is wrong he said don't you know
[14:48]that every nation has its own form of nikah every religion has
[14:55]its own form of nikah of marriage and islam approves of these
[14:59]marriages when the mushriqeen of mecca became muslims the prophet didn't bring
[15:08]everybody back and especially the women tell them come come i have
[15:12]some good news for you we're gonna have a second wedding for
[15:14]you here celebration the marriage was approved the marriage was approved and
[15:24]even in jahiliyah people used to get married they had a form
[15:27]of a marriage and there were those who would not get married
[15:30]and they were known they were known in jahiliyah those who would
[15:34]not and even in jahiliyah in quraysh this was considered a bad
[15:38]act and hence there were some women who were known as honest
[15:43]honorable ladies like khadija salamu allahi alaik khadija was known for her
[15:47]noblety and honesty and greatness and there were some people women whose
[15:54]names were not mentioned because it's sensitive sometimes but they were known
[16:00]for being who they were so this was known he said don't
[16:06]you know that every nation every religion every society has a form
[16:12]of marriage and islam approves of it what right is given to
[16:17]you to use such language so from today onwards you will not
[16:23]walk with me anymore finish khalas go and the narrator says i
[16:30]never saw this man with imam osadaq again imam osadaq used to
[16:37]discipline his companions discipline them make sure that they grow up grow
[16:43]up not physically grow up spiritually to become leaders in the society
[16:48]to become citizens of the society now if we ask ourselves brothers
[16:53]and sisters a question now this companion of the imam used one
[16:56]foul language and the imam told him go away now if we
[17:01]are with imam al saddiq you know would he still stay with
[17:05]us or he would you know many years ago he says get
[17:08]out of my face you know sometimes when we read these hadith
[17:14]and we hear these stories they really make us stop and reflect
[17:17]a little bit as opposed to just hearing them you know these
[17:23]are all lessons for us when imam talks in such language harsh
[17:30]language with a person who he always was walking with the imam
[17:35]it means imam has certain criteria for people who associate with him
[17:42]and we have to ask ourselves do we have these criteria do
[17:46]we qualify one day abu hamza thumali may allah bless him abu
[18:00]hamza he says i came to baqiyah for and i was riding
[18:08]my donkey on the baqiyah inside the baqiyah he said then i
[18:13]had a messenger come to me and he says you abah hamza
[18:17]ajib mawlaq oh abah hamza go and attend to your master he's
[18:24]calling you so abu hamza said i headed towards imam saddiq alaihi
[18:30]salam i went to his house he says i came to him
[18:35]i said imam saddiq alaihi salam also told him come you abba
[18:44]hamza i feel comfortable when i see you you abuhamzah now it
[19:01]is no wonder that allah blessed abuhamzah in learning dua abuhamzah by
[19:07]imam al sajad alaihi salam if it's a person if he is
[19:10]a man whom imam al saddiq tells him i feel comfortable when
[19:14]i see you so that is the criteria it makes us really
[19:22]want to learn more about abu hamzath umali know what was this
[19:25]man like that it made him achieve a status so high that
[19:30]imam al saddiq would tell him that i feel comfortable when i
[19:33]see you you so but we see that imam asadaq is trying
[19:41]to raise a group of individuals who not just know fiqh and
[19:47]usool and religion but rather they are citizens of a society they
[19:53]are builders of a society they are individuals who are complete and
[19:58]then there is a reason for this there is a reason he
[20:03]says so when people look at you they say jafar ibn muhammad
[20:10]knew how to discipline his companions so when people look at the
[20:16]followers of ahlul bayt they say yes these people are the shia
[20:20]of jafar ibn muhammad these are the shia if that is their
[20:25]imam then yes definitely they'll have his these individuals a man says
[20:32]one day i lost before when they used to go to hajj
[20:38]even today they have a belt in which they put their money
[20:41]sometimes so before they had the same thing they put take a
[20:44]belt when they go to hajj and they put their money in
[20:47]the belt so this man says went to medina and then i
[20:59]went to sleep in the masjid in the masjid i slept i
[21:03]woke up i started looking for my belt couldn't find it i
[21:11]thought that it was stolen from me somebody stole my belt so
[21:16]i woke up i got up i immediately left the masjid the
[21:21]first person i saw i thought he probably is the one he's
[21:26]the thief so i went that daikatu i told him give me
[21:31]back my belt you stole my money he said he looked at
[21:37]me he said how much money did you have in the belt
[21:41]he said 1,000 dinar he said come with me he took me
[21:48]home he weighed 1,000 dinars for me and he said here take
[21:52]him go he said i took the money i went back home
[22:00]in the house i saw my belt apparently i had forgotten my
[22:04]belt at home i thought i had it on me when i
[22:08]went to the masjid but apparently i didn't have it on me
[22:12]he says so then i came out and i felt so embarrassed
[22:16]i accused this man of robbing me and then he gave me
[22:20]the money so then i went back to his house i knocked
[22:27]at his door i said to him take your money back he
[22:32]said no whatever money we give doesn't come back to us anymore
[22:36]it's yours he said i left and i was shocked i asked
[22:44]people i said who is the owner of this house he said
[22:58]if that is the house of jafar if this is jafar ibn
[23:01]han then there's no surprise this is what he does and imam
[23:07]al saddiq alaihi salam brothers and sisters you know sometimes he's telling
[23:14]us that money is not an issue if somebody if it's an
[23:19]amount that can solve a problem now in this case the amount
[23:23]was not a little amount 1,000 dinars at the time was a
[23:26]lot of money but if a person can avoid a dispute between
[23:35]mumineen this man has come to umrah and he's coming for the
[23:39]ziyarah of rasulullah in medina if a dispute can be stopped by
[23:45]paying some money do so what is the importance and the significance
[23:51]of few $100 if some mumineen can peace be brought between them
[23:58]another hadith we read from my mufablat ibn amr mufablat said i
[24:03]saw two people fighting so i told them what is the matter
[24:08]they said you know this person borrowed 400 dirhams from me and
[24:11]he's not returning it back from me to me he said come
[24:14]home he took 400 dirham and he's paid it to him he
[24:17]said khalil steak 400 you're happy now he said yes sir hamdul
[24:21]i'm happy he said guys are clear now everything is good good
[24:24]but they said yeah muftabal he should pay me the money not
[24:28]you he said this is not my money he said this is
[24:32]money that imam musada gave to me and he told me you
[24:35]mufadwal if you find two of our shia are fighting because of
[24:39]money solve it with this money solve the problem don't let there
[24:46]be a dispute now how many of us unfortunately have that attitude
[24:57]have this akhlaq have this manners if it's an issue that can
[25:01]be solved because of money we as a community should try to
[25:06]help and solve this issue that's what imam al saddiq wants imam
[25:19]al saddiq brothers and sisters want to raise individuals who can really
[25:23]understand the meaning of kindness ihsan so he wanted to raise individuals
[25:30]who are and the ayah that we read today said isn't the
[25:41]reward for kindness but kindness and imam al saddiq alaihis salam told
[25:47]his companion ali ibn salam he says there is an ayah in
[25:51]the quran that is not restricted he said which one he says
[26:00]this ayah he said this ayah applies for the mu'min and for
[26:08]the kafir for somebody who's pious and somebody who is not pious
[26:14]it applies for everybody when a person does act of kindness to
[26:20]you you should return it back with a better act of kindness
[26:24]and you should do an act of kindness to individuals not expecting
[26:29]anything back that is called ihsan when you do something to people
[26:35]not expecting anything back in return that is ihsan a companion was
[26:41]with imam al saddiq one day or one night he said i
[26:46]saw imam al saddiq leaving from his house in the middle of
[26:50]the night and he was carrying something a bag on his back
[26:54]he walked and something fell from the bag so i ran when
[27:00]i ran he saw me i ran to help him collect the
[27:05]things that fell from the bag when i ran he saw me
[27:09]qalan naufali his name was naufali he said yes i am yabna
[27:13]rasulullah he said help me gather this this bread some of the
[27:17]bread fell so he said collected the bread we put it back
[27:21]in the bag then i went with with the imam i saw
[27:24]him going by a group of people who were sleeping he said
[27:28]without waking them up he would take these breads and he would
[27:32]put it on their clothes without waking them up one loaf two
[27:37]loaves three loaves until he finished everybody and then he went back
[27:41]i told him ibn gosulillah those individuals are of your shia he
[27:51]said no he said if they were of my shia i would
[27:54]not give them this much i would only give them a little
[27:56]bit of salt and that will be enough for them he said
[28:02]but these are not of mashi'a so we're giving them more this
[28:06]is the way he deals with people who don't follow him that's
[28:11]the act of kindness that is the definition of ihsan and imam
[28:16]is teaching this this is what you should do with people this
[28:20]is how you should deal with people with this attitude even though
[28:25]they don't believe in me even though they're against me another hadith
[28:29]in alam and bihar alam and majdi's nayyat some people even used
[28:32]to talk bad about the imam they used to talk bad one
[28:35]of the individuals he used to use bad language against the imam
[28:40]imam what would he do he would give the money to somebody
[28:43]else he says go give him the money as if you are
[28:46]giving it to him don't tell him this is from me tell
[28:50]him you're giving it to him and so this man he says
[28:53]would go give the money to this man to this individual and
[28:56]he would tell me you are being kind to me while jafar
[28:58]ibn muhammad doesn't even care about me and he says i would
[29:03]feel very upset you know want to tell him this money actually
[29:05]comes from jafar ibn muhammad but the imam told me instructed me
[29:09]don't tell her so then i would keep quiet and he would
[29:13]continue giving me the money to go and give to this man
[29:16]this is the act of kindness and that's what imam asadaq wants
[29:21]of us brothers and sisters we come to his majalis inshaallah we
[29:25]celebrate his birthday we celebrate his his time the times of ahlul
[29:30]bayt aliyam salam the celebrations of ahlul bayt we commemorate their musaiba
[29:36]but at the end of the day brothers and sisters what we
[29:39]have to really ask ourselves is this simple question an honest question
[29:44]are we a source of pride for the imam or are we
[29:50]a source of embarrassment to the imam what are our actions like
[29:55]what are our attitudes like just now we saw a glimpse of
[30:00]some of the examples of how imam asadaq alaihis salam disciplines his
[30:04]people he doesn't want them to use foul language if they do
[30:08]he will take them go away from me he wants them to
[30:13]be kind he they give without expecting anything back even to people
[30:18]who don't agree with them even to people who actually talk bad
[30:22]about them he wants them to be individuals who are perfect in
[30:29]the society so when people look at them they say these are
[30:34]the followers of jafar ibn muhammad and then this will intrigue another
[30:38]question when the individual sees this is mashaallah such a humble man
[30:44]a mumin he's got good manners why he'll be intrigued so he'll
[30:49]come and ask why do you do this if you say well
[30:54]because imam al saddiq told me to do this he taught me
[30:58]to do this my religion taught me then they'll ask what is
[31:02]your religion who is imam al saddiq and that's what we want
[31:08]i'll conclude with this one day one of the lecturers may allah
[31:13]bless his soul he died he said i was in hajj doing
[31:17]wudu so a person came to me this is many years ago
[31:21]when water was scarce water was not commonly available especially when you
[31:26]go to arafat water was very scarce back in those days he
[31:31]said was doing wudu a person came to me he said saw
[31:33]that the way you do wudu is different what kind of wudu
[31:37]is this you don't wash your feet he said this is the
[31:42]wudu of madhab of ahlul baytia alaihi musalam he said this man
[31:52]stopped he said what is that madhab he said imam jafar saddiq
[31:57]he said yes yes yes i heard of abu jafar al mansur
[32:01]i heard of him yes he said no no abu jafar al
[32:05]mansur is the one who killed imam asaddiq not that man we're
[32:09]talking about jafar al ibn muhammad al asadaq i started explaining to
[32:12]him who imam asadaq was he said the man then told me
[32:18]i've never heard this before and then he told me you people
[32:24]have such great individuals and you don't tell us who they are
