[0:00]Iman Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala inahus verse 83 states that hereafter the
[1:08]reward that Allah has promised for believers on the day of judgment
[1:16]that is reserved exclusively for who the hereafter after is exclusively reserved
[1:30]for those who don't seek glory in this world.
[1:39]They don't seek corruption.
[1:44]It is for the pious ones, the righteous ones.
[1:48]Who?
[1:49]Those who don't seek glory and those who don't seek corruption or
[1:53]spread corruption.
[1:56]Illuminate your hearts and minds with a loud salawat.
[2:09]During the past several months, the Epstein files have rocked the world.
[2:16]So many people from around the world have been utterly shocked at
[2:23]some revelations.
[2:24]How is it possible that people in such important positions can commit
[2:34]such heinous crimes?
[2:35]This shocked a lot of people because many of these leaders, political
[2:44]figures, celebrities, they are seen positively by many people in society.
[2:51]They view them favorably.
[2:53]They are heroes to some people.
[2:56]So they were shocked to know that this group of elite people
[3:02]will commit such crimes.
[3:03]But here's what's more shocking.
[3:08]The crime itself that they committed was quite shocking.
[3:11]But more shocking than that was the fact that they were able
[3:17]to get away with their crimes.
[3:20]That's what shocked people.
[3:19]All these years this has been covered up.
[3:24]How did they get away with these crimes?
[3:28]Where is the justice system?
[3:31]I thought we live in countries in which everyone is equal before
[3:36]the law.
[3:36]Anyone who commits a crime, they're equal before the law.
[3:42]Retribution must be served, justice must be served.
[3:46]So, how is it that for all these years, 15, 20, 25
[3:48]years, they got away with their crimes?
[3:52]This shocked the entire world.
[3:55]And this demonstrates to us, brothers and sisters, that today, put the
[4:01]slogans and the rosy claims to the side, there is no true
[4:08]justice system in the world.
[4:09]If you have connections and you have power and you have money,
[4:14]you have access to top lawyers, you're connected with a powerful group
[4:19]of people, you can get away with your crimes.
[4:23]That's a reality.
[4:25]It's a mirage to think that everyone is equal before the law.
[4:33]There's no such thing.
[4:33]If you're famous, if you're a celebrity, if you're rich, you're not
[4:39]equal before the law with the one who is poor, with the
[4:46]one who has no one to defend him.
[4:48]This is a reality.
[4:49]When a crime happens in society, if the criminal is poor, a
[4:58]poor person who's not famous, we're very harsh on them.
[5:00]We don't give them the benefit of the doubt.
[5:03]We don't want a reduced sentence.
[5:06]We see this person as this vile creature who must be eliminated
[5:13]or locked.
[5:13]Some poor person breaks into someone's house, okay, steals or even kills
[5:21]or rapes, right?
[5:22]We want the maximum punishment for this person.
[5:26]But if a celebrity does that, if a famous celebrity breaks into
[5:33]the house and commits the same exact crime, we view it differently,
[5:36]don't we?
[5:38]Okay, yeah, that was bad, but do we need like a very
[5:40]harsh sentence?
[5:41]Do we need 50 years?
[5:42]Maybe 10 years is just fine.
[5:44]Okay, let's do a settlement.
[5:48]Pay $3 million and we'll get you out.
[5:52]We're not harsh with people who are famous, people who are powerful,
[5:55]and people who are rich.
[5:57]That's the mentality of human beings, especially in the modern day.
[6:04]Hence, people in that group, they can get away with their crimes
[6:08]and society will not be as harsh on them like they are
[6:13]with the average citizen.
[6:14]And the proof is look at today with all these disturbing reports
[6:19]from the Epstein files.
[6:21]Yeah, people are complaining why is this happening?
[6:25]We need justice.
[6:26]But they don't really care.
[6:29]But if another group of people had committed such a crime, right?
[6:35]If an illegal immigrant in the US commits an act of murder
[6:41]or rapes, the whole universe will turn against him.
[6:42]They'll send their best cops and soldiers and guards and to hunt
[6:50]him down and people won't sleep until he's hunted down.
[6:53]But if it's a celebrity who committed the same crime, it's okay.
[6:57]I can sleep tonight.
[6:58]I'll just complain a little bit.
[7:00]That's the reality.
[7:02]That's the world that we live in.
[7:04]And historically, it has been this way.
[7:07]Historically, look at the Roman civilization, the Greek civilization, any other civilization.
[7:14]powerful people, the elites, they can get away with their crimes.
[7:17]There's not much accountability for them.
[7:21]Knowing that this is the nature of society and the nature of
[7:29]human beings, we find the commander of the faithful shattering this system
[7:37]and bringing a new system that history had never seen like it
[7:43]in the course since the day Allah subhana wa ta'ala created Adam.
[7:48]No one was able to shatter this system and bring accountability like
[7:55]Ali other than the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasall established a system to
[8:02]stop this type of abuse that if you're in a position of
[8:05]power you can't take advantage of that.
[8:07]Don't think you'll get away with your crimes.
[8:11]There is accountability.
[8:12]This is what did and hence you find that was very harsh
[8:20]with his governors.
[8:21]The governors who represented his state, the Imam would constantly monitor them.
[8:28]Min went out of his way to know what they were up
[8:32]to.
[8:33]If you look at his letter to Malik Ashar when the Imam
[8:36]wanted to dispatch him to Egypt to be the governor of Egypt,
[8:42]the imam tells him the people who work under you government workers.
[8:55]The imam says appoint informants and spies over them.
[9:01]See, normally countries, governments, they put spies on who normally.
[9:09]Who's the biggest target of spies?
[9:11]The people, right?
[9:11]The citizens, the people, maybe the opposition, right?
[9:16]People who don't like the government.
[9:18]The government uses most of his resources to monitor them, to spy
[9:22]on them.
[9:23]In the government of Mu, the Imam encouraged assigning informants.
[9:27]We can call them spies and poors.
[9:30]It doesn't matter.
[9:32]The Imam encouraged that.
[9:33]But on who?
[9:35]On the government employees.
[9:37]The Imam had people reporting and monitoring what the governors do.
[9:43]And those people working under the governors.
[9:46]What are they doing?
[9:48]Are they abusing their power or no?
[9:50]Are they taking advantage of their position or no?
[9:52]Are they committing any acts of injustice or no?
[9:57]created a system to know what's happening and he encouraged the public
[10:02]by the way he told the public if there is any governor
[10:06]who's misbehaving come and tell me and the imam would take it
[10:09]seriously he would take action some of his governors the imam actually
[10:14]deposed he removed them from power like al-n jar he was a
[10:22]governor at the time of Imisam in Persia The Imam heard disturbing
[10:30]things about him.
[10:30]He was abusing his power.
[10:31]The Imam sends him a very harsh letter.
[10:35]It's a long letter.
[10:37]It's a beautiful letter.
[10:37]But you know in one line what the Imam tells him, he's
[10:41]giving him his final chance.
[10:42]By the way, I mean gives you a chance to fix things,
[10:46]too.
[10:47]The Imam tells him, "I've been informed that you're abusing power and
[10:50]you're doing the following disturbing things.
[10:52]If it's true, and this is the warning of the imam, if
[10:56]it's true, then know that the strap of your sandal is better
[11:03]than you.
[11:02]In our words today, your shoe is better than you.
[11:07]Look, is at the peak of and mannerism and politeness.
[11:14]M doesn't go around insulting people.
[11:16]But there was one group of people the imam was willing to
[11:22]insult.
[11:22]who people who abuse power.
[11:23]You're working in my government and you abuse power.
[11:28]Oh, I will insult you.
[11:28]You're like your shoe is better than you if you abuse your
[11:30]power.
[11:33]This is what he writes to him in the letter.
[11:36]This guy didn't listen.
[11:40]The next time the imam removed him from power.
[11:42]Yeah.
[11:42]The imam removed aloud from power because he didn't take the warning
[11:50]seriously.
[11:49]With imam, you don't mess with the abuse of power.
[11:54]This is a red line.
[11:57]I'll now share with you a more interesting example which is the
[12:03]point of our discussion tonight.
[12:03]And this shows you the vision of and the solution that he
[12:11]had.
[12:10]And today the world needs this solution from Alam.
[12:15]So these crimes that the Epstein files are revealing are not committed
[12:23]again.
[12:21]The Imam had a really good governor in Basra.
[12:25]His name was Ib or Khanifman was a companion of the prophet
[12:32]sallallahu alaihi.
[12:34]He came from the Ansar of Medina.
[12:37]He participated in the battle of he was high ranking.
[12:41]He was known to be a good righteous companion.
[12:46]So he's serving as the governor of Im Ali Alisam in Basra.
[12:52]Basra in southern Iraq was a very strategic city even until today.
[12:56]It's an important economic hub and port.
[13:00]He does something that ticks off sends him a warning.
[13:08]The Imam sends him a letter.
[13:10]He basically tells him, "It has come to my attention that a
[13:16]group of rich people invited you to a banquet, to a dinner,
[13:22]and you attended that dinner, and no poor people were invited." The
[13:29]Imam rebuked him.
[13:32]He criticized him and he warned him.
[13:36]This is unacceptable.
[13:35]You as my governor to go to an exclusive gathering where elite
[13:44]people attend and other people are not allowed to attend.
[13:47]I don't accept that for you.
[13:53]And learn from your imam.
[13:55]I, your Imm.
[13:55]I have access to more riches than you, more power than you.
[14:01]I'm satisfied only with my two pieces of garment and with my
[14:05]loaf of bread.
[14:05]You think I can't find access to gold and honey and all
[14:11]these luxury items?
[14:13]Of course, I can.
[14:13]But I'm not an animal who follows his desires.
[14:16]Help me out.
[14:17]You can't be 100% like me.
[14:19]Help me out.
[14:20]So we see the Imam Alisam giving him a warning because he
[14:26]did something harmless in our eyes, right?
[14:29]Okay, you have a governor.
[14:29]He was invited by some rich people.
[14:31]He had dinner with them.
[14:32]What did he do haram?
[14:35]The food was halal.
[14:35]It's not like they served haram meat.
[14:37]They didn't drink.
[14:40]They didn't bring uh dancers and singers to the session.
[14:43]From the outside it looks perfectly halal but it was unacceptable to
[14:50]why the question is why what can we learn from Im Ali's
[14:56]position on this particular issue was teaching him and teaching us today
[15:03]the world needs this lesson from the Imam teaches you that when
[15:08]you're in a position of power and you surround yourself with elite
[15:13]people, you give them direct access to influence you and lobby you.
[15:20]Over time, they will put pressure on you.
[15:25]They will attract you.
[15:26]They will lure you.
[15:29]They will tempt you.
[15:29]And then you start advocating for their interests.
[15:33]And you forget about the poor people.
[15:35]You forget about the average citizen.
[15:37]And then you start committing crimes.
[15:39]That's how it starts.
[15:42]Look, people in power, they don't become criminals overnight.
[15:46]Those Epstein criminals, they didn't become criminals overnight.
[15:52]It takes time.
[15:52]The Imam is telling Khan, "Look, this is the bait.
[15:59]Today, they invited you to a nice banquet dinner.
[16:01]Okay, it's halal.
[16:03]There's no haram food being served there." But you think it's going
[16:07]to stop there.
[16:09]Once these elite rich people, powerful people will get comfortable with you,
[16:14]that's when they start to buy you and bribe you and influence
[16:18]you.
[16:17]So the imam is telling him, you can't get too close to
[16:21]them.
[16:22]You have to put a distance.
[16:22]You you can see them, but with other people.
[16:26]If they invite you to a dinner and there are poor people
[16:31]attending that dinner, fine.
[16:30]I'm okay with that.
[16:33]But if it's an exclusive gathering, that is destructive.
[16:36]You cannot attend an exclusive gathering.
[16:40]This will allow them to influence you.
[16:43]You will get comfortable with them.
[16:46]They will become comfortable with you.
[16:47]And that's exactly what happened with Epstein.
[16:50]Why did so many of these powerful, famous people fall into his
[16:57]trap?
[16:58]Why?
[16:57]Because he was helping them form connections.
[17:00]He made them feel special.
[17:03]I once read about some of his tactics like what did he
[17:07]entice them with?
[17:09]Some of them were already rich, right?
[17:10]You don't need more money even though the human being is never
[17:13]satisfied with whatever money he has.
[17:15]But what what's his trick?
[17:16]How did he pull them?
[17:19]He made them feel exclusive.
[17:20]He told them, "You are the most special people on earth and
[17:23]this is an exclusive group, right?
[17:28]and I'll give you my private jet.
[17:34]We'll go to this private island.
[17:35]It's only us.
[17:34]And look, this feeds the ego.
[17:39]The ego thrives in such an environment when you're told that this
[17:43]is exclusive to you.
[17:44]You're special.
[17:46]You're the privileged group.
[17:47]The ego loves that.
[17:49]And so he was able to convince them that he is making
[17:54]them part of an elite exclusive group.
[17:56]And this is something they pursued.
[17:58]This is something that they wanted.
[18:01]And then once you allow your ego to become this big, you
[18:07]start following your temptations and your temptations lead you to crimes.
[18:12]And then because every one of them is doing the crime, they
[18:15]felt, you know what, I'm not going to get exposed because if
[18:19]he wants to expose me, I'll expose him.
[18:21]We're all guilty of the same crime.
[18:24]That's what's end up happening.
[18:27]The Imam is protecting this ummah.
[18:30]He's protecting the citizens.
[18:32]He's protecting justice by sending a letter of warning to you're getting
[18:36]too close to that powerful people.
[18:38]That group of people, you're getting too close to them.
[18:42]This is not allowed.
[18:42]I, as your imam, I don't allow that.
[18:44]He sent him a warning.
[18:46]And look, as a governor, if you don't listen to the warning
[18:48]of Im Ali, the next letter is out.
[18:50]You're out of here.
[18:53]I don't tolerate this.
[18:53]This is how controlled his governors to the best of his ability.
[18:59]You make a violation, I give you a warning.
[19:03]Second chance, third chance, you're out.
[19:04]So this is how the Imam raised them.
[19:07]And this is a very beautiful lesson for us today.
[19:11]My dear brothers and sisters, today the world needs this lesson from
[19:16]now.
[19:17]I know you know most of us were not governors.
[19:22]We're not political leaders.
[19:23]We're not in that high place of power.
[19:27]But all of you, you have your own sphere of influence.
[19:33]As a father, as a mother, you have authority in your home.
[19:38]As a husband, you have some authority in your home.
[19:43]If you have a business, your employees, they're at the mercy of
[19:47]your authority.
[19:46]Every one of us has a sphere of authority.
[19:49]If you're a lawyer, you've got clients, doctor who has patients, you
[19:54]all have a sphere of authority.
[19:57]What can we learn from Imam Ali Alisam in this particular letter
[20:04]to his governor to apply to our life?
[20:07]Number one, the Imam teaches you surround yourself with the right people.
[20:10]See, what was Im Ali's problem with what he did?
[20:15]The Imam's problem was you're surrounding yourself with the wrong people.
[20:19]You're attending this banquet, this dinner with the rich people.
[20:24]Eventually, they're going to become your friends and then they're going to
[20:27]influence you.
[20:27]You're going to think like them.
[20:31]You're going to act like them.
[20:32]Be careful who you surround yourself with.
[20:35]Today, ask yourself, who are my friends in society?
[20:40]Who do I spend time with?
[20:43]Are these people people whom I trust?
[20:49]Would I pray behind them on the day of judgment?
[20:54]Would I want to be resurrected with them or no?
[20:55]Ask yourself this question.
[20:57]Do you want to know if your friends are good friends or
[21:04]not?
[21:02]See if you can make this dua.
[21:06]Ya Allah, on the day of judgment, resurrect me with my friends
[21:11]such that I have the same fate as their fate.
[21:14]Will you accept that?
[21:16]If you can make this dua confidently, alhamdulillah, they're good friends.
[21:21]If you're like, "No, I don't want to have their fate because
[21:24]I know that, you know, their mentality, their behavior, there's something about
[21:28]that that's very disturbing," then you're associating with the wrong friends.
[21:32]You have to associate with people who remind you of Allah subhana
[21:39]wa ta'ala.
[21:39]People whom you feel safe with spiritually.
[21:41]People who remind you what to do good.
[21:46]You leave their gathering and you feel more positive about your religion.
[21:49]You feel more positive about your education.
[21:52]You feel more positive about your spirituality.
[21:54]These are good people.
[21:56]Not people whom you have fun with and it's cool to hang
[22:01]around with them.
[22:02]There are some people you spend time with them it's nice it's
[22:06]fun you kill time and you have a good laugh and you
[22:08]have a good time but you leave that gathering spirit spir spiritually
[22:13]you're depleted you feel further away from Allah subhana wa ta'ala you
[22:18]feel further away from your parents that's another sign do you want
[22:23]to know you have good friends or not after spending two hours
[22:25]with them do you feel more compassionate to mom and dad you
[22:27]want to go and help them and serve them or no, you
[22:32]feel more distanced from mom and dad.
[22:34]If you feel more distanced, you're associating with the wrong friends.
[22:39]If you feel closer to your parents, more compassionate towards your parents,
[22:44]then you're associating with the right friends.
[22:46]So the imam is not just teaching a governor by the name
[22:52]of K who he should surround himself with.
[22:55]This is a lesson for me.
[22:56]It's a lesson for you, for all of us.
[22:59]Who are you surrounding yourself with?
[23:01]That's the first lesson.
[23:04]The second lesson, those people that you surround yourself with, there must
[23:09]be diversity among them.
[23:10]Make sure they're not all part of your same group.
[23:15]See, the Imam had a problem with Kane becoming too close to
[23:23]a group of rich people.
[23:25]Why?
[23:25]Even if let's say these rich people are not evil people, let's
[23:30]say they're generally good people, the IM still doesn't want him to
[23:35]associate with them too much.
[23:36]Why?
[23:37]Because when you spend most of your time with one group of
[23:40]people, you lose touch from reality.
[23:45]You no longer know what's happening to other types of people in
[23:51]your society.
[23:50]So you can't relate to other people.
[23:55]You won't have empathy for other people.
[23:58]If I spend my time always with the rich people, I can't
[24:01]feel what the poor people are going through.
[24:04]I can't relate to them.
[24:05]If I'm spending my time all the time at school with the
[24:10]cool guys, the cool people, I can't feel what the not cool
[24:13]people feel.
[24:15]Those poor students who are not popular, they're not cool, right?
[24:21]I can't relate to them.
[24:21]students who get bullied, I can't relate to them.
[24:25]So, you have a skewed understanding of life.
[24:28]You see the world from one lens and you have no clue
[24:31]what's happening out there in society.
[24:33]You get disconnected from life from society.
[24:36]You really don't know what's happening.
[24:39]If I associate with a group of people who all of them
[24:45]for instance come from one ethnicity, that's fine.
[24:49]Your people spend time with them.
[24:51]But if I don't have any friends from other ethnicities, right, my
[24:56]mindset will be very narrow.
[24:59]My mentality will be narrow.
[25:01]I'll see things only from the perspective of my own people.
[25:03]I can't relate to other communities.
[25:05]I can't create bridges with other communities.
[25:08]The Imam wants you to have friends from all walks of life.
[25:14]And hence, look at his companions.
[25:15]Look at the companions of Mi.
[25:19]You have the likes of Ma.
[25:21]Who's Mamm?
[25:22]Who's Mamm?
[25:23]What was he when the Imam worked on him and raised him?
[25:26]Slave.
[25:28]Brothers and sisters, back then, 14 centuries ago, a slave had zero
[25:37]value.
[25:34]No value to a slave.
[25:38]Im Ali Alisam, he gets close to a slave.
[25:41]That's very big.
[25:43]This was very dramatic, very radical.
[25:45]But the imam wants to surround himself with all types of people.
[25:50]Another companion is Salman.
[25:53]Salman is one of the best friends of Mu.
[25:55]Salman was not an Arab.
[25:58]He came from a different ethnicity.
[26:00]He was Persian.
[26:03]But the Imam wants someone like Salman to be with him.
[26:06]Amar is a pure Meccan.
[26:09]He comes from the city of Mecca, a pure Arab.
[26:14]See three of the best of Imam's companions.
[26:16]One is an Arab, one is a Persian, one is a slave.
[26:21]You see the diversity in the friends of Muam.
[26:25]The Imam is teaching you, you as a M have diversity with
[26:27]the people whom you asso associate with, the people whom you invite,
[26:30]the people whom you spend time with, you stay in touch with
[26:36]have some diversity.
[26:37]This is helpful for you.
[26:40]It broadens your horizon.
[26:40]It gives you more experience and it brings you closer to Allah
[26:44]subhana tala and it makes you more down to earth, makes you
[26:50]more humble.
[26:49]But when I constantly associate with one type of group, especially if
[26:56]that group is a rich group, a powerful group, a dominant group,
[26:59]slowly I feed my ego and I become arrogant.
[27:03]You spend time with arrogant people, you'll become arrogant.
[27:05]That's guaranteed.
[27:07]And remember what Allah tells us in the Holy Quran.
[27:10]Remember the warning of the Quran.
[27:14]You want that, brothers and sisters.
[27:16]There's only one way to get that.
[27:27]Allah says that is for people who don't want glory in this
[27:33]world.
[27:35]They don't want glory.
[27:35]Pursuing fame and power and riches.
[27:37]Yeah.
[27:38]Sometimes Allah some people he gives them glory.
[27:42]He gives them riches.
[27:42]He gives them blessings.
[27:43]But they don't kill themselves to pursue it.
[27:46]It's not their goal.
[27:47]They don't run after the dunya.
[27:50]Allah says the is for people like that.
[27:54]So here very beautifully reminds us whom we should surround ourselves with.
[28:02]Make sure those people around you don't destroy your character, your spirituality,
[28:08]your empathy.
[28:09]Once you get too comfortable with luxury and with rich people, with
[28:16]dominant people, you don't care about the poor people anymore.
[28:19]And brothers and sisters, in our own lifetime, okay, I'm not that
[28:22]old, but in my own lifetime, I witnessed that.
[28:25]And I know some community members here, they've witnessed that.
[28:29]20, 30 years ago, there were people who were very average, right?
[28:37]Average people, they looked very good from the outside, but then they
[28:42]had an opportunity to achieve power and to become ministers, prime ministers.
[28:48]They had access to power.
[28:52]They started associating with only people who were powerful and rich like
[28:58]them.
[28:59]They changed.
[28:58]They changed.
[29:00]Two weeks ago, I was in Toronto.
[29:02]A brother there told me a very disturbing story.
[29:06]He told me say it in in that particular country.
[29:11]I have a friend who was my friend.
[29:15]We grew up together.
[29:17]I used to help him.
[29:20]Then later he becomes a wazir, a minister in that country.
[29:26]He says, "I went to that country.
[29:30]I got an appointment to visit him.
[29:33]I didn't want anything from him." Nothing.
[29:35]I didn't go there with the intention, oh, you're my oldtime friend.
[29:40]Now, I want you to do this for me.
[29:43]Connections.
[29:42]Nothing.
[29:42]Nothing.
[29:43]I just wanted to go sayamu alaykum.
[29:45]I miss you.
[29:47]How have you been?
[29:47]As a longtime friend.
[29:49]He says, I went to his office.
[29:51]His brother was in charge of the office.
[29:52]He's like, what are you here for?
[29:55]I'm like, I'm here to see your brother.
[29:57]He's my best.
[29:56]He used to be my best friend years ago.
[29:59]What do you want from him?
[30:01]Nothing.
[30:02]I don't want anything from him.
[30:04]Just salam.
[30:04]He said he kept me waiting for one hour, one full hour.
[30:09]And then he came back and he told me, "My brother is
[30:13]too busy today.
[30:14]He's a bit too busy." I told him, "Busy, one salah, one
[30:21]minute.
[30:20]20, 30 years ago, I spent hours helping him.
[30:24]Now he's too busy.
[30:27]Subhan Allah.
[30:29]In another incident, another brother in Toronto, he told me something similar.
[30:33]He says, "Once I met a person whom, you know, I' I'd
[30:39]done favors to.
[30:37]I told him, do you recognize me?" He's like, "No, I don't
[30:42]even recognize you." I'm like, "I'm fan." He's like, "Sorry, I don't
[30:45]remember who you are." You see what power does?
[30:49]because these people surrounded themselves with the wrong people.
[30:55]Anytime, brothers and sisters, you're in a position of power.
[30:58]And remember when I say power, you don't have to think of
[31:02]a minister.
[31:02]No, you can have power in your own house, in your own
[31:06]company, in your own community.
[31:07]Surround yourself with people from different backgrounds, people from the lower social
[31:14]status.
[31:15]Let some of them be your friend.
[31:17]Have a poor person be one of your best friends.
[31:20]Can we do that?
[31:20]I have a challenge.
[31:21]I have a challenge for myself and for all of you.
[31:25]You know how we have a new year resolution?
[31:28]Our Islamic new year really really is from I'll explain it inshallah
[31:36]on why that is the case.
[31:37]Because on your full new year gets written for you.
[31:42]So in reality the new spiritual year is from I have a
[31:47]challenge a new resolution for myself and for all of you make
[31:51]it your resolution this year that in your circle of friends if
[31:54]there isn't a person who's poor find someone a m a believer
[32:02]who has goodl good spirituality but also is poor make them part
[32:06]of your circle believe me your perspective will will change your empathy
[32:10]will change your spirituality will even increase.
[32:13]Try it.
[32:14]This is what the adamam teach us.
[32:18]So today brothers and sisters we see the world is in a
[32:24]mess.
[32:22]Why?
[32:23]Because these powerful people have surrounded themselves with powerful powerful people like
[32:30]them and they're in an exclusive circle elite circle you can't have
[32:34]access to.
[32:35]When that happens there's no justice, there's no accountability.
[32:38]They get away with their crimes.
[32:41]Al had a solution 14 centuries ago.
[32:45]He was the toughest on his governors.
[32:46]You're in a position of power.
[32:51]Never.
[32:49]I won't let you get away with it.
[32:54]Even though he was very forgiving personally, if personally someone insulted, he'd
[32:57]forgive him.
[32:59]And he raised his companions like that.
[33:02]Even his governors like Malik.
[33:04]Malik altar was a very important companion.
[33:10]He was a commander of Imam Ali's army as well.
[33:12]You've all heard the of the incident when someone comes and insults
[33:19]him.
[33:20]He threatens him and insults him doesn't do anything.
[33:23]He proceeds to the masjid.
[33:26]Some people look at the abuser.
[33:29]They told him, "Do you know who you just abused?
[33:31]This is Maliktar.
[33:33]This is the commander of Imam Ali's army.
[33:36]This guy's powerful.
[33:36]Did you do you know what you just did?
[33:39]He started panicking.
[33:41]He ran after Malikar.
[33:43]He saw him praying in the masjid.
[33:47]He finished his salah.
[33:47]He told him, "Please forgive me.
[33:49]I'm sorry.
[33:50]I didn't know who you are." He tells him, "The only reason
[33:52]why I came to the masjid and I prayed this prayer is
[33:57]for Allah to forgive you." These are the students of Ali Ab.
[34:05]Yes.
[34:03]When it comes to personal issues, be the most loving, kind person.
[34:10]But when it comes to abuse of power, zero tolerance.
[34:13]That's howam was able to establish justice.
[34:22]And today, the world needs the justice of brothers and sisters, now
[34:25]I take your heart to the city of Kufa on such a
[34:34]day.
[34:32]According to a report, Imam Hassan and Hussein, peace be upon them,
[34:40]after they finished burying Imam Ali Ali, they're on their way back
[34:49]home from Najaf to Kufa, it's not much of a distance, right?
[34:53]Maybe about 10 kilometers.
[34:58]On their way back, they passed by a man who was crying.
[35:04]Now, Imm Hassan and IM Hussein, they care.
[35:06]If it was me, okay, let this guy cry.
[35:09]It's none of my business.
[35:13]But these are the symbols of empathy and humanity.
[35:14]Imm Hassan stops by this man.
[35:18]He tells him, "Why are you crying?
[35:20]What's the matter?" He tells him, "I am blind." And he had
[35:29]partial paralysis.
[35:29]I can't feed myself.
[35:32]I can't clean myself.
[35:32]I can't do anything.
[35:34]I'm crying because every single day a man would come to me.
[35:42]He would feed me and he would clean me.
[35:47]It's been three days he has not showed up.
[35:53]Three days he didn't show up.
[35:57]So I'm crying.
[35:58]Imam Hassan asks him, "Did you recognize who he was?
[36:04]Who was who is this man?" It's like, "Honestly, I don't know.
[36:07]I don't even know his name." He never introduced himself.
[36:12]You would just come and serve me.
[36:13]I Hassan told him, "I'll tell you who he was.
[36:18]Just give me some descriptions of his qualities." He describes his qualities.
[36:22]He tells him that's our father.
[36:25]Three days ago, he was struck.
[36:29]He fell and just now we buried him and we came back
[36:32]from his burial.
[36:33]The man started to yell and scream.
[36:38]He fainted.
[36:37]He fell unconscious and according to the report he died on the
[36:41]spot when he learned this is he could not take that pain.
[36:52]This is the the ruler.
[36:52]He's so busy he finds the time to go to this blind
[36:59]paralyzed person and to help him with his own hands.
[37:05]How did the dust of the grave consume such act, such an
[37:13]imam, such symbol of mercy?
[37:20]We ask Allah to grant us the we grant we ask Allah
[37:26]you know what what our hope is my great uncle my father's
[37:38]uncle Muhammad Kazwini he was a poet and he composed some of
[37:43]the most beautiful lines of poetry for B about 10 years ago
[37:46]he passed away in in in Iran in Meshad.
[37:50]He struggled with cancer.
[37:53]I remember visiting him in the hospital.
[37:57]This is not long before he died.
[38:01]One of my cousins there at the hospital asked him a question,
[38:05]an interesting question.
[38:04]He told him, "Amu, are you scared of death?" With so much
[38:12]calmness and confidence, he said, "No, I'm not." He told him, "But
[38:17]why?" Like even they should be scared of death.
[38:20]I mean this is death honestly.
[38:21]Like we're scared of it.
[38:22]Yeah, we believe in the the mercy of Allah, but we're scared
[38:27]of death.
[38:29]Why are you not scared of death?
[38:30]You know what he said?
[38:32]He smiled.
[38:33]He said, "I'm not scared of death because at the moment of
[38:36]death, I will see the face of Ali." When I see the
[38:42]face of Ali, what do I what do I have to worry
[38:46]about?
[38:46]I have nothing to worry about.
[38:47]And this is a promise from the prophet Im Ali himself.
[38:49]And the when he dies, he'll see the face of Ali.
[38:58]The imam told Hamdan, one of his companions, this is a promise.
[39:05]You die, you'll see my face.
[39:06]So we ask Allah to show us the face of Ali at
[39:12]the moment of death, inshallah.
[39:12]And we ask Allah to grant us his and raise your hands
[39:21]in dua.
[39:22]These are moments of dua brothers and sisters.
