[6:37]for the beautiful recitation welcome again everyone to the muslim youth connections

[6:41]friday night program i would like to make a couple announcements before

[6:46]we begin first of all everyone please remember to keep your masks

[7:18]brother alaihani for tonight's program about how can i connect with the

[7:29]quran sallah muhammad yes this is okay my foreign brothers and sisters

[9:12]so inshallah the focus of this talk there are a few things

[9:17]on my agenda to get through inshallah time permitting we'll get through

[9:21]all of them uh within one hour but if we go a

[9:25]little bit over then i hope no one makes you know accidents

[9:27]in the parking lot in sha allah so today's focus for the

[9:33]first part will be about assad which is where my recitation brief

[9:37]recitation of one ayah began from and that is in the quran

[9:43]that we have uh in the order that we have surah number

[9:48]38 okay one thing that i should preface this talk with is

[9:52]that i will be asking for a lot of audience participation you

[9:56]guys are going to have to remember stuff you guys are going

[9:58]to have to repeat stuff back to me so which suit are

[10:04]we covering today right and which surah number is that 43 right

[10:10]83 38 mashaallah we have two sisters who are not taking a

[10:16]nap today so we begin with saud and allah starts off with

[10:24]a qasam that this quran i swear by it that it is

[10:28]full of zikr right usually the way how allah will start off

[10:35]a vikar usually is he'll give something called in arabic jawab al-qasam

[10:39]but this is one of those surahs where the jawal question is

[10:44]just missing i'll give you an example of one where the jawable

[10:47]custom is there is the custom the jawable custom is definitely each

[10:57]and every single human being is already drowning in loss okay then

[11:03]there are others like yasin while quran al hakeem al-mursalin where the

[11:09]jawab al-qasam is there because the evidence is that the quran is

[11:16]hakeem that should be enough proof that you are from the mursalien

[11:17]you are from the messengers here though the jawad al-qasam is silent

[11:22]and there's a wisdom for why it's silent swaddler now what is

[11:28]vikr vikr you can translate into english as remembrance remembrance easy enough

[11:39]and the jawab al-qasam itself there are two major interpretations that i

[11:45]like and i'll share both of them with you number one is

[11:50]that this should be enough proof that rasulullah is a true messenger

[11:56]and that this quran is worth remembering that's both of them the

[12:01]quran being full of reminders is allah's evidence against us that you

[12:06]should have been remembering it more you should have been remembering it

[12:10]day to day you should have been remembering it throughout let's say

[12:15]shah ramadan which is quran it's not necessarily the month of fasting

[12:22]in allah's eyes it's the month where you reconnect with the quran

[12:26]ramadan is basically our not independence day our independence month we became

[12:34]an ummah with this book we became who we are today with

[12:39]this monumental book being revealed to mankind and that's why we observe

[12:45]shah ramadan fasting as i mentioned in a previous talk is for

[12:50]discipline right this is to go and control our enoughs but what

[12:55]you should be focusing more and more on is the quran and

[13:02]so at this point in our our discussion i want to point

[13:10]out something that i like to call landmarks what are landmarks we

[13:13]have to understand what a surah even means it doesn't mean a

[13:18]chapter a sur is basically a wall for those of you who

[13:22]saw allah play assassin's creed you guys know about scaling high city

[13:26]walls especially those ancient cities right they have huge fortress type walls

[13:31]that you have to climb over the point of these walls is

[13:35]to keep the city safe this is what a surah is it

[13:38]keeps the subjects intact there's a running theme that's going around them

[13:45]and through this tour of the city you'll find landmarks and of

[13:50]course this is a book so you'll find words that are repeated

[13:53]in this surah one of those landmarks happens to be i'll point

[13:58]them out as much as i can we're not going to go

[14:00]through i mean it's 83 ayaat usually sometimes it takes me a

[14:04]whole entire class or you know a whole hour to go through

[14:08]one or two ayats so we're not going to go through the

[14:11]entire surah assad but i'll skim over it and we're going to

[14:12]try to get as many lessons as we can out of it

[14:15]inshallah one of those landmarks is let me see if you guys

[14:20]are paying attention what is it okay how about you know this

[14:24]time where most of us aren't sleeping one more time what's the

[14:26]first landmark the second one is found in the second ayah what's

[14:34]the second ayah no no no those who are in kufur they

[14:43]are steeped deep in izza and shekau let's take a quick second

[14:49]to understand what those two words mean doesn't have one word unfortunately

[14:53]that i can give you for its english translation we're gonna have

[14:56]to remember two words for this one the first of those words

[14:58]is dignity and the second one is authority let me hear it

[15:05]from you guys now what's the first meaning of isa dignity and

[15:10]the second one is authority so just remember these these are our

[15:15]two landmarks that we'll keep on encountering as we go through the

[15:21]surah okay now the jawab al-qasam if you remember was not given

[15:27]to us but you can kind of see how ayah number two

[15:31]picks up that it should be known rasulullah is evident it's evident

[15:35]that he's a messenger and that this quran is really from god

[15:39]but those who are in kufar they are so arrogant they think

[15:45]of themselves as having so much respect for themselves they think they

[15:48]have so much authority that why would they go and listen to

[15:50]this orphan who listens to an orphan it doesn't make sense means

[15:57]they're in different let's say they're in different ways of how to

[16:02]combat this muhammad problem because this is a makki surah right so

[16:07]the quraysh obviously have a problem with rasulullah sallallahu alaihi now they

[16:14]don't have one single line of attack and so allah is going

[16:17]to expose them that you can't even figure out how to unite

[16:20]amongst each other to attack this messenger let's see what some of

[16:26]their attacks and insults are and how some of them you can

[16:31]actually be proud of in kabbalah how many people came before them

[16:41]that we just annihilated and by the time that they called out

[16:47]for help please anyone help me anyone at all help me allah

[16:51]goes and says this is not the time for you to be

[16:53]calling out you guys were already on your path to destruction i

[16:58]did a favor by sending a messenger to you you wanted to

[17:02]ridicule him and now you want to go and call out now

[17:06]that the adab is actually here i'm sorry no that's not how

[17:10]it works you had time and they can't understand that someone who's

[17:17]come to warn came from themselves now if you'll allow me i

[17:27]want to take some time to analyze these two words and how

[17:30]they're actually something as an admission of defeat from the kuffar how

[17:36]by calling rasulullah what does sachar mean in english a magician when

[17:44]someone performs magic and you're fooled by it doesn't that mean that

[17:50]you're admitting this isn't something a normal physics phenomenon can encompass this

[17:54]isn't something that normal human beings do by calling rasulullah what tricks

[18:01]is he doing all he's doing is reciting qur'an something is there

[18:06]latent within the language that muslim and kuffar are like are saying

[18:10]wow what is this i'll give you a very short example rasulullah

[18:15]doesn't recite poetry but the arabs of that time do and the

[18:21]biggest poetry competition at the end of the year after you know

[18:25]the the regional finals you could say the big finale would be

[18:30]in front of the kaaba and the lar and the the prize

[18:35]of the one who had the best poetry is you get your

[18:38]poetry on the kaaba everybody gets to read it and usually in

[18:42]these lines of poetry which they have stacks right they have a

[18:47]thesis paper basically of poetry they're cussing people's mothers they're dissing people's

[18:51]tribes they're doing this and that and it's the job of the

[18:55]poets of the other tribe to get revenge by coming up with

[19:00]even more sick lines sometimes the punishment would be you didn't defend

[19:05]our tribe enough death penalty you brought honor and isa to our

[19:10]tribe so you get gold and wives and this and that and

[19:14]so rasulullah doesn't send a thesis paper he doesn't send surat al

[19:20]baqarah he sends the shortest surah and subhanallah all of the the

[19:25]poetry loving the literary loving arabs of the time are there right

[19:27]in front of the kaaba and they add a fourth line to

[19:32]go and compliment this what is rasulullah's messenger into this crowd say

[19:40]says and what's the unanimous response from all of these arabs this

[19:55]can't be the words of a man so their response to hearing

[20:00]such an amazing recital is it's got to be magic yeah fine

[20:05]it's not something natural it's got to be something supernatural they're not

[20:08]ready to make the leap of faith to say it's divine but

[20:11]they're willing to say it's magic and the second of the insult

[20:18]is kaddab kadeb is not which means pattern of repetition a formula

[20:26]of repetition this guy keeps on coming back with the same lie

[20:30]and same lie and same light i'll give you an example imagine

[20:34]someone's out here with his friends or sister with her friends out

[20:38]in the parking lot and someone comes up and says hey you

[20:42]look like you're from lebanon or you look like you're from iraq

[20:46]yeah i am well i am too and you know i'm i'm

[20:50]in such a hard time you know i'm experiencing such hard times

[20:54]i lost my passport i lost my wallet i don't have a

[20:57]car i've been starving for two days could you give me some

[21:01]money you're like okay yeah sure second person comes up five minutes

[21:04]later it says same exact rehearsed lines you look like you're from

[21:10]lebanon or iraq right are you yeah i am oh me too

[21:14]i'm from this city i lost my passport i lost my wallet

[21:18]i lost this and that can you help me you're like i

[21:20]just gave money you know i'm sorry you know right now i

[21:25]can't third person comes are you from lebanon are you from iran

[21:27]yeah i am but let me hold on let me tell you

[21:30]you're from this city aren't you and you lost your passport and

[21:33]your this guy runs away doesn't he because once you find out

[21:36]that the person's a fraud they're not going to keep on coming

[21:39]back to the same audience but rasulullah he won't stop he keeps

[21:44]on coming back to the same audience and so this is captured

[21:47]within the kuffar's insult towards him that you're a kadab you just

[21:50]keep on coming back to the same lie unfortunately they can't realize

[21:55]that if he really was a lie wouldn't he just go and

[22:00]find someone else to to try to dupe some other innocent audience

[22:03]that he will try his his tricks on so these are kind

[22:10]of admissions of defeat almost from the quran so now let's let's

[22:13]go on there are six sections in this surah and i want

[22:20]you to remember these because i'm going to be asking you throughout

[22:22]this lecture inshallah what are these six sections the first section is

[22:32]quraysh what's the first section the second one is nations nations third

[22:42]one is prophets okay i'm scared i don't know how many of

[22:45]you guys are still remembering i want to know how many of

[22:46]you are still with us how many of you are now inshallah

[22:48]entering you know sinoton what i know phase or the coma phase

[22:55]section number one section number two section number three profits okay the

[23:03]last one was a little bit weak third one is profits section

[23:10]number four is paradise you know agenda right anybody want to give

[23:16]me a guess of what section number five is hell yeah section

[23:23]six is pretty cool i'm gonna call it for now say the

[23:30]english word say s-a-y okay so now starting at section number one

[23:35]i wanna hear from everybody section number one section number two three

[23:42]four paradise let's try that again section number four section number five

[23:51]hell section number six say okay good alhamdulillah i think i still

[23:59]have everybody okay section number one quran is they have so much

[24:09]self-respect for themselves they have so much uh you know of a

[24:13]haughty nature that they don't want to bow down and accept how

[24:18]many generations how many nations have i destroyed before them or i've

[24:22]seen the same exact thing over and over again us but by

[24:26]the time that they called out for help that wasn't the time

[24:30]to call out for help but now they're weirded out that someone

[24:33]from amongst themselves is coming to warn them right not that you

[24:37]went and now you come back with warning of the enemy tribe

[24:40]or this or that you claim that the warning is coming to

[24:42]you how weird is this but now within themselves they realize okay

[24:51]yeah he's not really a magician and he's not really a kava

[24:54]so now their real angst comes out towards the prophet allah what

[25:03]has he he's combined all of our gods into one in hijab

[25:09]and now all these elites of quraysh all of these people are

[25:18]all sitting around the prophet along with the muslims along with everybody

[25:22]else and they're all listening but when someone of great respect walks

[25:25]up out of a out of a lecture and just leaves doesn't

[25:30]that kind of inspire everybody else okay okay hey if they're leaving

[25:34]it's time for us to leave too not only that but they

[25:39]say and as they're going an imshu they go and say everybody

[25:42]else come on come on let's go meeting's over nothing to see

[25:47]here and now be patient would you with your gods show some

[25:54]loyalty to your gods right in and then he says this is

[26:01]something that has an agenda clearly behind it we're the elders we

[26:03]can see it you guys will be easily duped come on let's

[26:07]go let's go we haven't heard anything like this from previous people

[26:16]previous generations this is just something made up this is something subhanallah

[26:22]that even up until today muslims have this disease the disease of

[26:27]well if i haven't heard of it before then obviously it automatically

[26:32]must be invalid you're saying no no who are you to come

[26:35]and tell me i'm over here i already know this stuff i

[26:39]don't need you to come and tell me quran i don't need

[26:41]you to come and teach me classes i don't need you to

[26:44]come and tell me hadith i already know and the fact that

[26:48]you're coming up with something new i don't care objectively if it's

[26:52]true or false because i haven't heard it i'm not willing to

[26:57]hear it this is something unfortunately we find even within muslims i've

[27:00]seen it my own with my own i don't know i don't

[27:03]know if i should say seen it with my own two eyes

[27:05]or i heard it with my own two ears that's more appropriate

[27:10]and then allah subhanahu wa says [Music] of all people fine maybe

[27:17]there is a vicar but of all people he comes to him

[27:19]an orphan there's much better qualified people i think there's influential people

[27:25]in politics and economics and i mean this one really him fine

[27:30]he has some respect but like there's other people who already people

[27:34]listen to right and so they're like membani why not us allah

[27:40]says no the actual problem here is bel humphrey these guys are

[27:46]in doubt about whether they should remember me they're not so sure

[27:50]if remembering me is a good idea remembering quran remembering allah a

[27:54]lot of times it exposes to our own selves that we weren't

[27:58]doing the right thing and that can be hurtful towards the ego

[28:01]so they're like i don't really want to remember allah i don't

[28:05]really want to remember quran i don't want to remember rasulullah in

[28:08]his life or the bates life no i would rather just keep

[28:11]on doing what i'm doing and then allah says actually the case

[28:18]is these guys haven't tasted my my torture yet my punishment yet

[28:24]may allah save us oh i'm remembering that vikar was one of

[28:34]the landmarks here one of the names of allah is al-aziz that's

[28:37]also another landmark remember from at the beginning so it's coming up

[28:42]already or no no maybe they have the universe and the earth

[28:50]and everything that's in between them maybe that's why they're like no

[28:52]we already have everything we don't need your guidance whatever this is

[28:56]right let them try to go up into the skies through the

[29:05]through the gateways this is just some army one little insignificant little

[29:13]army that is destined to be completely taken out and completely annihilated

[29:19]just like the the others that they're a party of which ones

[29:22]are they a party of so this concludes section one what's section

[29:28]two i heard absolutely nobody masha allah what's section two nations and

[29:43]the people of noor and the people of god with the moon

[29:48]are you remembering any of these names you guys say that we've

[29:53]never heard of anything like this before how can you say that

[29:56]you have you never heard of these people these legendary destructions you've

[29:59]never heard of them before in kullun illa the only thing they

[30:04]all have in common is they denied the messenger that came to

[30:09]them then my my retribution became justified i'm sorry but that's the

[30:13]end of the line for anybody and you're going down that same

[30:15]path allah is saying these guys are basically being quoted the previous

[30:33]nations and why are the previous nations being quoted does it make

[30:35]sense why allah moved from quraish to previous nations in a linear

[30:39]fashion yes not as sufficient yes it makes sense because you're going

[30:43]down the same path right the next section is what what's section

[30:48]three prophet you just be patient with what they're saying and remember

[31:03]my servant you just remember dawud allah could have brought up any

[31:10]prophet why dawood why dawood da'wud let's see who remembers the word

[31:15]what does the word mean in english two words first word is

[31:20]dignity and the second word is authority mashaallah thank you not every

[31:28]prophet was given dignity and those who were given dignity not necessarily

[31:32]they had authority dawud is one of those special prophets where he

[31:38]has kingdom so he has both combined so almost in between the

[31:43]lines allah is saying because i'm giving you dawud as an example

[31:48]understand that right now yes you are in mecca one days very

[31:52]soon you will also have power this is one of the lessons

[31:58]that rasulullah takes away from it inna saharan we're not going to

[32:07]go through that we're going to start speeding up the the the

[32:09]sur assad part of this lecture next we have surah in we

[32:15]have his son who is his son sulaiman after sulaiman who do

[32:21]we have who's mentioned right after suleiman in this quran who knows

[32:28]what's special about ayub how was he tried sickness right he had

[32:36]a lot of sickness i want you to understand why are these

[32:40]three prophets being focused on over here other prophets will come you

[32:44]know ibrahim is but their names are basically just mentioned why these

[32:50]three in particular you have to understand rasulullah is being told quraysh

[32:57]is not going to listen they're going down the path of previous

[33:01]nations isn't rasulullah going to feel a little bit sad like what's

[33:03]the point of working with these people then they're not going to

[33:06]listen they're they've basically already made up their minds so now rasulullah

[33:12]says here let me give you some consolation go remember other prophets

[33:14]from the previous nations dawud was a king a lot of power

[33:21]sulaiman he was a king not even just a lot of power

[33:25]we gave him the wind we gave him shayatin that were under

[33:29]his command right and those shayatin that didn't want to cooperate we

[33:34]went and locked them up in chains lots and lots of power

[33:38]compared to a prophet over here a youb that doesn't even have

[33:41]the power over his own body he's not given any power over

[33:46]his body look at the contrast rasulullah is being told doesn't matter

[33:49]what situation i put a prophet in all of them are coming

[33:55]back to me what's rasulullah supposed to say you will find your

[33:57]strength in coming back to me to allah subhanallah so then after

[34:05]section number four what section number i'm sorry that's section number three

[34:09]prophets what's section number four i have such bad memory paradise so

[34:15]allah says i'm remembering because allah said that this is something i'm

[34:20]supposed to be watching out for in this surah it's called a

[34:24]landmark basically allah is giving us a beautiful description of paradise that

[34:41]for the queen they will eventually go to paradise they will be

[34:45]able to call for any kinds of drinks that they want any

[34:47]kind of fakiha bakaha is a fruit that by definition you bite

[34:51]into it and you smile right not like a prune more like

[34:55]a mango well certain types of mangoes i don't think i want

[35:02]to go into this one because then the sisters will have a

[35:05]lot of tough questions for me this is what has been promised

[35:12]for yom kisab in and with us is even more don't worry

[35:19]this isn't all there is there's so much more this is basically

[35:21]just the the stuff the hors d'oeuvres basically to start you off

[35:26]hey welcome to the lobby of the hotel welcome to the lobby

[35:30]of paradise that's everything that the quran has mentioned about paradise that's

[35:35]just the starting stuff right and as for the for the people

[35:42]who keep on transgressing every bound they have such a horrible end

[35:46]jahannam i didn't mention it but obviously what section have we now

[35:53]moved into hell which is section number five masha'allah i have a

[35:58]very good audience today what a horrible horrible cradle why cradle you

[36:05]know when a mom goes and puts her baby in a swaddle

[36:10]like this she's basically you know putting him or her in a

[36:15]very strong hole so that the baby doesn't slip that's what's being

[36:20]described that hell does it suffocates and it completely just in wraps

[36:25]around the criminal who's in there all right this is a really

[36:39]interesting unique place in the quran where allah describes hell where one

[36:42]nation one army will be thrown in on top of another on

[36:47]top of another on top of another right and we actually get

[36:50]to hear some of their trash talk trash talk yes you heard

[36:56]me correctly one of them will go and say um there's no

[37:01]room there for them there's no they're not welcome over here why

[37:04]because there's no room hell is basically suffocated all room is already

[37:09]occupied and obviously why is it bad for more people to be

[37:14]thrown in why do they care this is where other places in

[37:17]the quran help us out right fear that hellfire have taqwa of

[37:30]that hellfire try to protect yourself allah is saying almost sarcastically from

[37:33]that hellfire whose fuel is men and hijara stones one really interesting

[37:40]interpretation of what those hijata are are the idols that people use

[37:44]to worship those will now become torture devices to further make their

[37:48]torment horrible may allah save us all from that but now they're

[37:52]saying allah says they must be burned in hell the people who

[38:01]are newly coming in they're like you know what there's no room

[38:04]for you excuse me make way right now you guys came here

[38:11]before us you guys were here before us right so whoever was

[38:19]here already before us please multiply their this is their trash talk

[38:26]ya allah they were here before us make their adab even worse

[38:29]right this is how they're trash talking each other but then they

[38:33]realize something's wrong something's off about hell something's there's a little quirk

[38:38]that they just noticed now that they finally got done with their

[38:40]trash talking what is that where are those men who we used

[38:51]to think were the most evil of men who did they think

[38:55]were the most evil of men prophets and messengers imams where are

[39:01]they well where do you think they are jannah interestingly enough in

[39:08]the previous surah what's the previous surah just the number is enough

[39:12]what soda number is this 38 so that one is 37.

[39:17]in surah number 37 we see a similar conversation where the people

[39:21]of jannah are talking and they're like hey i have a friend

[39:24]or i had a friend back in dunya but he's not here

[39:28]he's missing where is he and where do you think he is

[39:32]he's in jahannam and so a window is opened up is opened

[39:35]up by the angels right and he gets to see firsthand oh

[39:41]my god he's right over there when that window is closed the

[39:44]description that he gives of jannah go and read for yourself tonight

[39:47]inshaallah it's as if he's encountering jannah all over again for the

[39:51]first time that's how traumatic hell is for someone who lives in

[39:55]jannah he's like wait really we're not going to be we're not

[39:57]going to be tortured in here right and we're not going to

[40:02]die we're we're fine over here in jannah right wow that's that's

[40:06]amazing that by itself this person who's being quoted in sort of

[40:09]saffat that by itself is fosu-navi that is a huge victory by

[40:14]itself that i got saved from that right so now that section

[40:21]number which section is that i think it's section number one we

[40:24]just finished right five okay good then we have what's this uh

[40:32]section number six called say and allah subhanahu wa ta'ala says to

[40:37]end off that section this is really how the discussions of the

[40:44]people of hellfire will be going why do you think i call

[40:48]this say because there's a lot of qual in this section tell

[40:57]them i'm just a warner and there really is only one god

[41:07]is one of those landmarks he's the master of the universe and

[41:13]the earth and everything in between and yes he is full of

[41:21]authority he is full of dignity but if you are scared in

[41:25]this surah he is also al-khafar he is ready to accept your

[41:30]repentance he is ready to accept you back it's not as if

[41:33]your your test is done you still have time tell them that

[41:40]this is a really monumental news that i'm telling you very very

[41:44]monumental i want you to tell me which landmark is this there's

[41:50]only two so hopefully 50 50 chance you get it right you

[41:56]guys are ignoring it which remind which which uh i gave it

[42:02]away which landmark is this vikar reminder because when vikkar has been

[42:08]mentioned so many times in the surah when you ignore it that

[42:13]itself invokes that remembering landmark you guys didn't remember you guys just

[42:20]ignored anto i had no idea what the elites what they were

[42:28]fighting about okay all that's been revealed to me is that i

[42:34]am a clarifying warner that's all i'm just doing my job you

[42:40]guys want to listen fine so now everything's going well so far

[42:45]right section one makes sense section two makes sense section three makes

[42:48]sense section four makes sense section five makes sense section six so

[42:51]far it's all cool but then we have if it's when your

[42:58]lord said when your master said i'm going to be creating a

[43:01]skin-based creature right when i go and shape him and i blow

[43:11]my rooh into him then go and make sujud before him oh

[43:19]hold on hold on i thought section 6 was all say this

[43:23]is let's go and make a separate section for this i have

[43:28]an idea we'll call this the prophet adam section and now it'll

[43:33]be seven sections good i disagree i disagree we already had a

[43:39]section for prophets what section was that oh that was a tough

[43:43]question and two people got it right section three was already profits

[43:48]why isn't that there why it's a good question isn't it it

[43:52]should be there were you one of those high ones those ones

[44:08]that are around the arch those 14 that my command didn't apply

[45:28]three i left i don't ask ya rasulullah you go and tell

[45:34]them i'm not asking for any payment for you guys i'm not

[45:37]asking for a reward one of those landmarks this is a reminder

[45:46]to every nation white black young old chinese indian whatever it's a

[45:52]reminder you've been put on notice all of you but soon all

[45:58]of you will come to find out anyway and that's the end

[46:02]of suraswat one more time i know you guys are tired of

[46:06]it one more time how many sections in this surah six section

[46:11]number one quraysh section number two section number three profits section number

[46:20]four five six okay now watch this last time but this one's

[46:27]special what's section number one what's section number six say say to

[46:32]who now that i've given you all of this reminder and i've

[46:38]given you consolation say to who say to quresh and now why

[46:41]is this story of adam over here to remind rasulullah you're my

[46:48]final prophet and this is a fight that goes back all the

[46:53]way back to the time of prophet adam and iblis started this

[46:56]and he made a promise i will go and try to bring

[47:01]all of them except for the infallibles into hell you are my

[47:04]last major weapon and what i'm sending down to you this quran

[47:08]right you are the major final installment of my arguments against iblees

[47:15]so you're not just warning some tribe in the desert called quresh

[47:20]your message extends to all of humanity the guidance and the hidayah

[47:25]of all of humanity now rests in your hands so you really

[47:27]have a big job to do that's why the story of adam

[47:31]and eve is in this say section so say to who quresh

[47:34]as well as everyone else what's section number two nations what's section

[47:43]number five hell is there a relation over there that the previous

[47:47]nations you know all of these people that they will be going

[47:55]somewhere eventually one day and it makes sense section number five there's

[47:57]only two more sections left i'm kind of running out of sections

[48:01]so where do you think the profits will be going that has

[48:03]to match up somewhere so section number three pairs up with section

[48:07]four what's section number four paradise and the prophets go to paradise

[48:13]the entire surah is a mirror right where every section has a

[48:23]corresponding section subhanallah and we're not even going to get into how

[48:26]each one of these sections is a concept concentric circle in and

[48:32]of itself but what i do want to do is i wanted

[48:41]um okay we won't go through something else because i have very

[48:46]little time left but i want to go through actually we'll we'll

[48:52]make brief mention of this the story of suleiman in this surah

[48:55]the story of sulaiman in this surah basically is that you know

[49:02]and and unfortunately both dawood's story and suleiman's story have been misinterpreted

[49:06]and it's it's very hard to understand them number one dahwood story

[49:11]is the the one with the 99 sheep and the one sheep

[49:14]and what happened over there that's for another day with suleiman however

[49:21]you have the so-called story of the missing his asar prayers you

[49:24]probably have heard of this and you know go and bring the

[49:32]sun back that's one interpretation another interpretation points out that there are

[49:38]flaws with this if rasulullah is being given sulaiman of all other

[49:43]prophets him as a reminder and isn't it kind of weird that

[49:46]allah would point out that he forgot his prayers does it make

[49:52]sense of course he remembered his prayers but then what does it

[49:57]mean well he has horses and obviously he's a king swaffinator he

[50:03]has a cavalry of horses and so he goes and tells them

[50:06]mush basically and they run and they run hijab until they basically

[50:14]the way how it's usually translated set behind the horizon tawarat is

[50:20]because it's on the baba tafa it means that there are two

[50:26]competing things so all the horses are competing with each other not

[50:29]the sun going behind the horizon that would have been tawarrat tawarat

[50:33]the horses went behind the horizon then suleiman said bring them back

[50:39]right fatha kamma that doesn't mean that he went and chopped off

[50:42]their legs and he chopped off their necks and he became a

[50:46]butcher it's not exactly the kind of reminder rasulullah needs oh you're

[50:48]sad that quraish won't listen here i'll tell you no no what

[50:54]he does is he goes and does mess this is something that

[50:57]someone who takes care of horses knows they'll go and pet their

[51:02]their legs because that's what's done all the running they'll pack their

[51:04]necks good boy yeah you did a lot of work that's what

[51:07]suleiman is doing why is he doing that he's the king someone

[51:12]else should be doing this yeah but they're swafinate these are like

[51:16]ferrari horses these are porsche level horses these aren't these aren't chevrolet

[51:21]or buick type horses okay these are very nice horses and so

[51:27]when allah has given him this he understands with these horses i'm

[51:30]going to defend the muslim lands i'm going to spread the cause

[51:34]of allah i need to go and take care of them right

[51:36]i need to go and show my people that when allah gives

[51:41]you something nice you take care of it if you use your

[51:43]technology to go and you know for for religious purposes then keep

[51:49]it clean don't go and do shady stuff on the side take

[51:52]the lesson from suleiman that's one way of how if you want

[51:56]to connect with the quran keep your lifestyle and keep your your

[52:00]your methods clean don't go in you know mix it up between

[52:06]each other right then you have suleiman well what does this mean

[52:16]was it was it his son that he saw dead was it

[52:19]a vision of himself dead the most you know convincing interpretation i've

[52:26]found is he himself collapsed on his chair i have a chair

[52:29]right here so he basically was like this oh my god it's

[52:32]been a long day i don't know what to do you know

[52:36]there's too much and so he says ya allah forgive me i

[52:39]didn't get to everything today right and then he goes and says

[52:46]and give me now a kingdom it doesn't benefit anybody after me

[52:52]to have this kind of mulk suleiman knows what he's capable of

[52:57]and so he works with that you all know what you're capable

[53:02]of here today you see someone who has the lights on him

[53:04]the camera on him the mic with him or whatever but how

[53:07]many dozens of people are working behind the scenes to make events

[53:10]like this and others a success and maybe they're just thinking oh

[53:15]i'm just a volunteer i'm quieting the baby i'm babysitting or whatever

[53:18]no who knows maybe in front of allah you're worth more than

[53:21]the person on stage maybe the person who's just passing out water

[53:26]in ashura has more reward than the person who made everybody in

[53:30]the audience for about allah cry maybe you need to take pride

[53:37]in what you're doing if you have been given a gift use

[53:39]it to the best of your ability allah if he had said

[53:51]be then the translation that's currently there in many translations i could

[53:56]accept allah doesn't burden someone past their capacity but he didn't put

[54:01]them he says which means allah has not burdened anyone except with

[54:10]their own capacity meaning allah will ask you on the day of

[54:14]judgment you could have gotten a hundred percent on that test i

[54:20]know your capability why did you just settle for 80 or a

[54:24]92 i know you could have done better meaning allah will go

[54:26]and ask each and every single one of us i shaped you

[54:29]and i fashioned you i know what your strengths and weaknesses were

[54:33]why didn't you play your strengths to the max why didn't you

[54:40]do that that's what you call it the burden upon us is

[54:44]how far we can go if you don't want to go and

[54:49]do that then be prepared to answer some pretty tough questions from

[54:53]allah on yamakiyama you know you could have done better you know

[54:55]that you could have stayed away from that sin you know you

[54:57]could have gone and helped that brother or sister who was struggling

[55:00]you know that you could have xyz but you didn't you just

[55:05]went and did 40 that 40 might have been someone else's hundred

[55:07]percent i'm not comparing you to them i'm comparing you to your

[55:14]own potential you failed 40 is a failure by any i mean

[55:16]i don't care if we're in the british system or in the

[55:20]american system especially in god's system failure so that's what i want

[55:24]to impart with you for the story of uh nabi suleiman very

[55:28]few things that i just have left as a review of this

[55:32]so that we all walk away from max with maximum benefit inshallah

[55:36]and then uh we'll conclude the ways that we've covered so far

[55:39]what's the title of this lecture how can i connect with the

[55:44]quran i wanted to show you how to do it i wanted

[55:46]to get you guys involved firsthand and show you the ways how

[55:52]i've done it one of the ways obviously put the time in

[55:55]it's not going to come through osmosis ramadan on the you know

[55:59]when you go and put the quran on your head is not

[56:02]going to come through osmosis this knowledge you have to put the

[56:05]time in okay that's number one number two very easy look for

[56:10]these landmarks look for words that keep on repeating in the surah

[56:14]that's not hard even someone who can who doesn't even know how

[56:18]to read arabic who just knows the shapes of letters they can

[56:22]find these words right number three try to look for sections in

[56:27]the surah and and number one with those sections make a linear

[56:31]coherence how does section one transition to section two how does section

[56:36]two go to three to four to five to six then another

[56:41]level of difficulty try to relate make those circles try to go

[56:47]and see how section six the last section fits with the first

[56:51]section right this way you first hand experience that the quran isn't

[56:57]jumping from one topic to another you don't get confused wait we

[57:01]were in a section of kul why is adam being mentioned no

[57:05]now you know there's a purpose if you want to make sure

[57:11]that the quran doesn't seem jumbled or you know doesn't seem to

[57:14]have a purpose try this try going into sections another one consult

[57:20]a lexicon a dictionary go and try to find out what the

[57:23]arabic words mean brothers and sisters if you are serious about this

[57:26]at one point or another you will have to dabble a little

[57:30]bit into the arabic language it's a quran there's no way around

[57:34]it it's an arabic quran it's not an english translation by yusuf

[57:37]ali or pickthal quran and obviously you could go on further than

[57:49]that learn learn sort of learn that's for later right now maybe

[57:54]just try this ramadan with the landmarks and finally one more way

[57:59]for yourself to go and build a better connection with the quran

[58:03]is ask yourself whose perspective is this being asked from remember how

[58:09]we asked about the about the kuffar how were they viewing it

[58:12]other sections may be asked well what do the jews have to

[58:16]say about this for example right well what's their take on it

[58:21]do we have anything from them do we have anything from the

[58:23]from the tanakh what about the christians we have the new testament

[58:27]we have other writings what can we learn from there always ask

[58:33]what was their perspective in in when they originally received the ions

[58:38]then there are social ways of how to connect with the quran

[58:44]first and foremost the hadith of muhammad why am i putting this

[58:52]over here in this section because even they expect you to come

[58:56]with some homework done you need to know what book you're reading

[58:58]and have read it at least a little bit before you come

[59:01]to them with questions there's a little entry you know i don't

[59:06]know like admissions test before you come in do you even know

[59:08]what you're reading come with intelligent questions and they'll have answers trust

[59:15]me and secondly consult scholars consult people who do know the book

[59:20]right go and ask people who do know what what's what's the

[59:26]shame in that there are people who are a little bit more

[59:28]advanced than us in the quran and unfortunately in that hadith of

[59:35]we've done very good alhamdulillah with sticking to the we haven't done

[59:41]such a good job with sticking to the kitab allah if there's

[59:45]questions our scholars are also qualified they can go and answer many

[59:51]of these questions if you have questions hey this nahu this grammar

[59:55]point over here it doesn't make sense help me they'll help it's

[59:59]not hard and finally i want to give some recommendations and then

[60:02]inshallah we'll conclude recommendations become very inquisitive about the quran without that

[60:11]inquisitive and humble attitude towards the quran a lot of people a

[60:17]lot of orientalists they've gone down a path of asking questions but

[60:21]that those questions ridicule the quran why would allah use this why

[60:26]would he say this that comes with arrogance you want to ask

[60:29]what's the wisdom behind this why i want to understand why allah

[60:34]put this prophet here why he used that word over there right

[60:40]because as we said this is how the people who are villains

[60:45]in the quran this is how they act we don't want to

[60:47]go and act like them we want to uh put those traits

[60:53]of obudia if within us like imam salak says another recommendation is

[60:57]use vivid imagination as you're reading the quran vividly like a movie

[61:02]imagine these things happening in front of you and i'll give examples

[61:07]of these and then we'll be done and the final recommendation be

[61:10]slow with each surah with each passage with each ayah before you

[61:16]start going fast okay meaning don't go and you know in in

[61:22]this ramadan study only one surah 1 don't go through the entire

[61:27]quran go through the entire quran to go and see what does

[61:29]what where are these landmarks and what does allah have to say

[61:33]elsewhere in the quran about them what are the themes in this

[61:37]surah and how else does allah talk about them right go and

[61:41]you know see where these stories of these prophets are talked about

[61:46]and built on in other surahs that's how we should be maybe

[61:49]as a one recommendation approaching the quran this shah ramadan another recommendation

[61:56]study with friends study with your family group study isn't that what

[62:01]christians do what jews do with their bible with their tanakh they'll

[62:05]read it and then they'll go and ask each other what did

[62:08]you find in the last week what did you do it's kind

[62:09]of like book club but you have to make it fun if

[62:13]you're not doing it with friends then who are you going to

[62:13]do it with you're going to do it with like your enemies

[62:16]or no develop some friends and then ask them to make sure

[62:21]you're also committed like a gym buddy right make sure you're committed

[62:26]and they're committed to a surah some examples of using vivid imagination

[62:31]right you would have seen the sun and now you have to

[62:36]actually imagine this the parting of the sea imagine yourself walking through

[62:39]it oh my god each one of them is a very tall

[62:45]wall the flood of noor where each wave you know uh mojin

[62:51]karjibal each wave was mountains piled on top of mountains in height

[62:55]each one wave was mountains upon mountains that's crazy yeah now any

[63:03]ayah can become an ayah of sujud you're like wow what a

[63:08]miracle of allah you you remember what allah is trying to tell

[63:12]you then there are subtle treasures that if you just go too

[63:17]fast you'll miss very very subtle treasures for example right why over

[63:29]here why is behe after over here for example i'm not going

[63:33]to answer any of these questions i'm just giving you food for

[63:34]thought another one why is insane before jin sometimes why is jin

[63:39]before insane other times what's the purpose for someone who doesn't understand

[64:06]arabic these are tough to answer for those of you who do

[64:11]know arabic it's very easy another one with nabisa in another place

[64:21]three nights over there three days over here the difference between sort

[64:26]of maryam and sultan 309 years it doesn't i'll leave that for

[64:35]you guys to go and try to figure it out by yourself

[64:39]and i'll also be here inshallah for some questions later so any

[64:41]of these if you want or other questions i'll try otherwise we

[64:45]have much better qualified people over here so inshallah may allah go

[64:51]and enrich our ramadan this year with a much more rich comprehension

[64:53]of the quran may he bring us closer to the quran through

[64:56]muhammad and inshallah there are more advanced levels of course that i

[65:02]didn't even get to touch on and i mean just as an

[65:06]example in my class i have a class also by the way

[65:08]called discourses of the divine ever since i think september of 2019

[65:11]we've just been going through surat al-baqarah i have now 16 ayahs

[65:15]left so it's been two years okay when you go through aya

[65:18]by aya it takes a lot of time right so for those

[65:21]of you it doesn't have to be this class find some class

[65:25]maybe to go and go through a guided reading of the quran

[65:28]right inshallah so inshallah i hope you all enjoyed your nap i'm
