[0:00]That's what life is about and that we should find a silver
[0:06]lining in all the trials and tribulations that we have to undergo.
[0:10]And of course, nothing is more qualified in a human being than
[0:17]to be patient.
[0:28]give the good news to the patient ones who we've tested and
[0:33]they say that we are from Allah and we return to Allah
[0:36]for Allah is the ultimate origin of all good.
[0:40]He is the absolute good and all good originates from him and
[0:48]everything returns to him.
[0:49]So holistically while this world is filled with injustice and evilness and
[0:53]rejection of good we find that the holistic mechanism of God's system
[0:58]is all from good and will return to good and I think
[1:04]that we should never forget regardless of where we are but regardless
[1:07]of the losses that we have to endure regardless of the hopelessness
[1:14]or helplessness we may feel we must never lose hope.
[1:21][Music] Allah is oft forgiving.
[1:28]Don't lose hope.
[1:28]Never lose hope.
[1:30]You were not created in vain.
[1:32]You know the believer, the deeply rooted individual who thinks as the
[1:37]Quran explains They think the deeply rooted individuals think constantly.
[1:50]Why am I here?
[1:52]Why am I aging?
[1:54]Why is that everything I acquire so temporal?
[1:58]My children, my wealth, my health, everything is temporary.
[2:04]There's no way we can secure it.
[2:06]There's nothing you and I can do to secure anything in this
[2:09]world except our good deeds.
[2:12]You know Quran says Allahh says your wealth and your family are
[2:27]the beauty of this world.
[2:28]They're beautiful.
[2:30]They're essential.
[2:30]They're beautiful.
[2:35]But they're earthly.
[2:38]They're temporary.
[2:38]on the heart.
[2:40]What remains are your good deeds.
[2:43]So it's a blessing to have this auspicious occasion where we are
[2:48]celebrating the birth of one of the greatest human beings that walked
[2:55]this earth.
[2:55]And she was a woman, an intrepid woman, a woman filled with
[3:01]wisdom, strength, a mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister.
[3:08]She represented every aspect of womanhood and she reached the apex of
[3:23]role models as a woman who became one of those skyions of
[3:29]justice and strength.
[3:30]A woman who was indomitable, who refused to bow to the injustices
[3:36]of the world.
[3:36]vocal, patient, wise, none other than of course Samu [Applause] and in
[3:53]remembering her and today's title as you know we chose it as
[3:58]the Muslim identity given the fact that the geopolitics of the world
[4:04]today where Islamophobes are becoming more bold old and they're being empowered.
[4:10]People like Bannon who was a nobody yesterday, just a loudmouth running
[4:14]a small little website and a talk show host suddenly becomes the
[4:18]most powerful man where the president doesn't make a move without listening
[4:21]to what he has to say and he's sitting in the oval
[4:26]office dictating the outcome of the foreign policy as well as domestic
[4:29]policy.
[4:30]And it's an interesting reality that we have to wake up to
[4:36]that one does not have to go through those channels to reach
[4:38]power.
[4:39]One simply has to be vocal enough and to be recognized by
[4:47]an individual who has power to empower and to enable which may
[4:52]cause massive destruction.
[4:53]You know um I mean history is very obam for example interesting
[5:04]person was condemned by the prophet you know he was condemned by
[5:08]the holy prophet he and his father were exiled were actually told
[5:13]to leave the christings of the Muslim world and told to get
[5:19]out because they were known to be troublemakers.
[5:22]So bin hakam was known to be a troublemaker.
[5:26]He was a nobody but he was related to the third shifman
[5:30]bin.
[5:31]So man brings him in as an adviser.
[5:35]Think about this you know and nobody suddenly becomes somebody who becomes
[5:43]a khalifa.
[5:43]Yeah just think about it.
[5:47]I mean if you just do the analysis of an individual who
[5:50]actually caused the destruction of he was the architect behind man getting
[5:56]killed.
[5:57]Okay.
[5:58]Marbin Hakam was the architect behind the destruction of bin A and
[6:03]he was the architect partially in Kabal and he's the one who
[6:09]killed the son of Yazid because son of Yazid as you know
[6:12]Muawi II was a lover of B and he refused to take
[6:18]the position of Khalifa because he considered it illegitimate.
[6:22]Soak poisons him and he becomes the khalifa.
[6:28]Let's take a lesson from history that nobody pe people can become
[6:34]somebody very powerful like and cause massive destructions in society and it
[6:41]can be so devastating that we will we will be scratching our
[6:43]heads in the future saying how did this happen?
[6:46]How did we get struck with such a big baseball bat and
[6:50]we didn't see it coming?
[6:51]It's because we're not diligent.
[6:54]We are lethargic community.
[6:57]We're busy in petty politics.
[7:00]We're busy in faultf finding and gossiping.
[7:07]And the prudent enemies are are wise enough to figure out our
[7:11]weak spots and then they attack us.
[7:13]And so in commemorate in celebration of Zam a woman who stood
[7:22]firm who teaches us how to identify ourselves as Muslims, how to
[7:27]live as proactive individuals should not be taken in vain.
[7:32]The event of Kbalai is not a historical event like Disney that
[7:35]reenacts it every year.
[7:38][Music] No, their actions in Kabala.
[7:44]Imm Hussein Alisam and his family and his companions are the template
[7:51]but can you get another microphone please?
[7:55]This guy is going to die.
[8:05]So Unfortunately, we as Muslims, particularly we followers of B and I
[8:16]I address the whole Muslim audience.
[8:32]You want the Okay, this is Can you increase the volume of
[8:57]this, please?
[9:00]Thank you.
[9:05]Without feedback.
[9:05]Thank you.
[9:07]So the family of B and as we know is a template
[9:13]in my opinion.
[9:12]You know I by Allah's grace I travel a lot.
[9:16]I meet all kinds of people around the world.
[9:19]I'm blessed to to discuss and have discussions with some very learned
[9:24]scholars of different religions.
[9:27]And I'm of the belief clearly now with my travels and my
[9:34]exposure to the world that Allah is incredibly merciful and that he
[9:40]has created a world of people who are holistically good and every
[9:46]religion, every temple I walk into, every church I walk into, I
[9:49]see good people.
[9:51]The intent is the same.
[9:52]I know I reflect this and what is my audience when I
[9:56]speak to my audience?
[9:56]What kind of people do I address?
[9:59]What kind of people am I seeing in the other parts of
[10:00]the world?
[10:01]And I see similarity.
[10:03]We're very similar.
[10:04]We're very similar.
[10:07]And we have been enjoying as a human race to love and
[10:11]to cause unity within ourselves and to see the commonalities within ourselves
[10:17]in order to represent Allah properly.
[10:19]I find that the basic principle of divisiveness where we find faults
[10:29]in each other and we we hate each other and we train
[10:31]each other to hate the other it leads to negative aura which
[10:35]leads to destruction.
[10:37]It's a very simple formula.
[10:39]It's in fact it sounds mind-numbingly simple but it is the driving
[10:44]force of the problems in the world and I think if we
[10:50]don't address it properly we will be party to that destruction within
[10:54]our communities when you listen to people talk we we talk a
[10:58]lot of hate in between our sentences we somehow feel that it's
[11:04]us versus them and if I do not protect my boundaries and
[11:06]my territory then I'm really I I don't have an identity.
[11:10]I have an identity crisis.
[11:12]And the only way to maintain my identity is to also condemn
[11:17]the other and to promote myself.
[11:19]And I would argue that identity is extremely important and that it
[11:24]should be promoted but not at the cost of condemnation of the
[11:30]other.
[11:31]Rather, the proper identity should be to promote the holistic identity of
[11:37]humanity with minimal condemnation.
[11:39]But we can't do it.
[11:42]And the reason we cannot do that is because for us to
[11:44]reduce the level of condemnation, our wisdom and knowledge base has to
[11:49]increase because the unknown is something we fear the most.
[11:55]And when we don't know something, we don't like it.
[12:00]And when we don't like it, we condemn it.
[12:02]Even though it may be good for us, but because we don't
[12:07]know it, then we don't like it.
[12:08]And when we don't like it, we condemn it.
[12:12]And when we condemn it knowingly or unknowingly, what we end up
[12:15]doing is we end up causing more destruction than construction.
[12:17]And that's the problem of society.
[12:19]If you go to the Christian Zionist groups, the ultrarightwing xenophobe, Islamophobes,
[12:25]you go to other schools of thought within our Muslim community that
[12:29]are condemning within our school, we're condemning other schools of thought.
[12:34]If you look at all of us, we we don't know the
[12:35]other side.
[12:36]And when we asked them, hey, do you know that they believe
[12:40]it now?
[12:38]No, no, they're no good.
[12:41]I've had people come to my door, knock on the door, you
[12:42]know, from other religions and say, you know, we want you to
[12:45]read our book.
[12:45]I said, great, I'll read your book.
[12:47]How about you read mine?
[12:48]No, no, no, no, no.
[12:52]Not good.
[12:52]We've been told, don't read this book.
[12:53]Very bad.
[12:54]I said, you've come to change me, but you don't want to
[12:57]read mine.
[12:58]You know, you want to be a doctor.
[12:59]You want to cure me?
[12:59]I think you should know my disease first, don't you think?
[13:02]Before you can cure me.
[13:03]I mean, that's what doctors study, right?
[13:04]They don't study, they don't just study healthy bodies, they study unhealthy
[13:08]bodies.
[13:08]So I'm unhealthy to you.
[13:09]Come study me.
[13:11]No, no, no.
[13:10]We can't do that.
[13:12]See that ignorance is the most dangerous thing.
[13:15]And the prophet is said the most destructive thing in the world
[13:19]is ignorance.
[13:20]You know that had they say if you think education is expensive,
[13:25]try ignorance.
[13:25]It's extremely destructive and expensive.
[13:28]And we as a society when we are busy within the scale
[13:33]of time indulging in mundane matters within the scale of time that's
[13:38]eating away finite time of our lives we end up having very
[13:40]little to have accomplished within the scale of time that God has
[13:46]given us because we're busy doing something else.
[13:47]It's like allocation of time.
[13:49]It's like when you're driving the car, you shouldn't be texting, right?
[13:53]Because the human mind can only allocate so much resource to something
[13:56]and then it has to allocate the rest of the resource somewhere
[14:00]else which means that you have less attention somewhere else which is
[14:02]what causes accidents on the road.
[14:07]Well, the same principle is about life that if I constantly allocate
[14:11]myself with mundane issues and running, you know, with the hype of
[14:17]the world that's created within the facade of the entertainment world, then
[14:21]I have no time to indulge in knowledge and and exposure and
[14:25]reflection and cogitation and meditation.
[14:27]I don't have that time.
[14:31]And when I don't have that time, then my net worth upon
[14:33]my death is minimal.
[14:36]And God forbid within that process I would have been very destructive
[14:40]because my ignorance would have led me to condemn the other.
[14:43]So I believe the Islamic identity that you and I need to
[14:48]have requires parameters with which for us to follow.
[14:49]And if we do not follow that then we will not identify
[14:54]ourselves properly as Muslims.
[14:55]It's like you want to be a doctor you have an identity.
[14:59]You want to call yourself an MD doctor something.
[15:01]There's a protocol.
[15:03]You're going to learn the basic facts of what you're going to
[15:06]promote yourself as when you carry the license.
[15:08]If you're going to train yourself to be a pharmacist, you better
[15:11]know the principles of pharmacy within the the the spectrum of medicine
[15:15]and and and chemicals, etc., etc.
[15:18]And if you don't have that capacity, then do not identify yourself
[15:22]as somebody who is authorized to fill a prescription.
[15:27]Don't you agree with that?
[15:28]Isn't that wonderful that thank God there are institutions that regulate that?
[15:33]Isn't that wonderful that you can't just step up to the plane
[15:38]and say I want to be a doctor today or I want
[15:40]to be a pharmacist tomorrow.
[15:41]You can't do that.
[15:41]You have to go through protocols.
[15:43]Unfortunately, within the reality of Islam, as much as there are protocols
[15:47]which are self delegated, self-relegated, we do not conform to that because
[15:53]we don't think it's essential.
[15:54]We feel that taking a shortcut around this deal, hopefully God will
[15:58]be pleased with me on judgment day because I'm so busy with
[16:03]the mundane, but then I know the holistic image of God being
[16:05]so merciful and forgiving and inshallah on judgment day, you know, he'll
[16:09]turn a blind eye and send me to earth.
[16:12]It doesn't work that way.
[16:15]No human being ever dares to say, "Yeah, that's how it works."
[16:17]You know, the law of probability, you know, enough permutations, hopefully you'll
[16:21]get it.
[16:21]No, it doesn't work that way.
[16:25]just doesn't work that way.
[16:25]So, we all agree that we have a time scale.
[16:28]And I'll give you a simple other example.
[16:30]Those of us who become parents, like I'm a parent, those of
[16:36]us who are parents, when a child is born, you have to
[16:39]chart out a calendar.
[16:41]There's just no way to to maintain the trajectory of this child
[16:47]outside of calendar.
[16:49]You need to know dates.
[16:50]When my child is this day, when they're at this age, when
[16:54]they start to battle, when they start to crawl, when they start
[16:56]to walk, when they start to run, when they go to school,
[16:58]when they're going to graduate, you know, early graduation, late graduation, what
[17:04]university going to it's time scale, you know, a child who's 16,
[17:08]17, they're already planning the university life.
[17:10]It's just no other way.
[17:11]Now, you could be 20, 30 and plan university life, but the
[17:16]general movement of life is within those parameters and it's expected.
[17:19]And by the time you're in your 30s, you better be set
[17:21]in in your pathway of your career.
[17:24]And in your 50s, you're starting to talk about retirement.
[17:28]And guess what?
[17:30]You lose your job in your late 50s.
[17:33]It's very difficult to get hired because companies see you as a
[17:35]liability because you have a lot of experience, but you're expensive and
[17:38]you're a liability because you're going to retire soon.
[17:42]Don't you agree?
[17:42]So, it's harder to get a job.
[17:45]So, you better be established by your 50s and 60s, otherwise you're
[17:48]going to have a problem.
[17:49]Unless you're self-employed and you're quite wealthy and you know enterprising otherwise
[17:56]it's difficult.
[17:55]Why is this set?
[17:58]Why does the human race sets such parameters?
[18:01]Allah says by time man is at a loss.
[18:11]You know this is an ayah that's negative in its first verse.
[18:16]Any verse in the Quran that starts with a negation followed by
[18:19]exception is an important verse to remember because it leaves no arguments
[18:24]because it cancels all possibilities and says this is the only possibility.
[18:30]When you say it's not except this means you've canceled everything except
[18:36]what's within the exception.
[18:36]When there's an except those who believe here the belief system is
[18:47]in the realization of the good of existence in the realization that
[18:52]somebody has created me in the realization that I have a goal
[18:58]in the realization that I wasn't created in vain in the realization
[19:02]that I have an objective in life and I need to fulfill
[19:05]objective and that there's a time scale by which I need to
[19:10]fulfill it and if I did not do it within this range
[19:14]of time I may be one among the I may be one
[19:18]of those who is a loser because I will lose out within
[19:19]the scale of time and time is a vector that's one direction
[19:25]you can't take it back once it's happened it's sealed in the
[19:28]annals of history and you and I can do nothing about it
[19:32]except change it in the future hopefully to mitigate it if it
[19:35]was not true but otherwise there's nothing you and I can do
[19:39]think about it there's no such thing as negative time and Allah
[19:45]has set this pathway in motion at birth without our considerations Has
[20:07]man not considered they were not worthy of being mentioned at the
[20:12]time?
[20:10]But we created them.
[20:13]Allah says and we made them out of a clock and we
[20:17]created them to test them and we gave them faculties of hearing
[20:20]and sight so that they're able to fulfill their objectives and we
[20:24]guided them to the path whether they're grateful or ungrateful.
[20:27]This is a blessing of God.
[20:29]So Allah says within the spectrum of time Allah says I decide
[20:32]when I place you within this scale of history and you will
[20:36]come as a bleep on the radar and you will disappear.
[20:40]And if you are a great person you may remain on the
[20:42]radar longer but at the end of the day when the day
[20:46]of judgment comes all of this will be rolled up like a
[20:50]scroll and you will be brought in front of your Lord to
[20:51]be questioned.
[20:53]What did you do within this mercy that God has given you?
[20:59]On that day you will be asked what did you do with
[21:04]this gift?
[21:03]This scale of time Allah starts with the negation.
[21:07]By time mankind is at a loss in not Muslim means humanity
[21:15]the intelligent sentient being is at a loss and Allah has conditions.
[21:25]He says, "Except those who believe." There's a there's a condition.
[21:29]You can't just believe and say, "I believe.
[21:32]I'm a Muslim.
[21:34]I have a big title on my forehead.
[21:38]Muslim, Shia, Sunnah." Titles to Allah mean nothing.
[21:41]In fact, it's a burden.
[21:45]It's a liability if we do not live by its standards.
[21:48]It's like claiming to be a doctor, but you're not.
[21:50]There's a liability there.
[21:52]You may get sued.
[21:53]You may go to jail for claiming to be something you're not.
[21:58]Humanity has same what we call civil code, civil rules are saying
[22:07]that you pretend to be something you're not, then there's a liability
[22:10]there.
[22:11]And when you promote what you believe in, then it's an asset.
[22:16]It's just a simple law of life.
[22:19]So Allah is [Music] saying do good deeds.
[22:28]By the way here you might say 7 and a half billion
[22:31]people we're a minority that believes in Allah we're a minority.
[22:37]So majority is going to go to hell.
[22:40]As I mentioned before in my lecture can you reduce the volume
[22:46]please as of Thank you.
[22:47]Oh, you know we might think Islam means go to have a
[22:58]long beard you know maybe do of the entire Quran you know
[23:02]have the depth which is talks to you this is no it's
[23:06]not I'm being I'm exaggerating here but some of us do think
[23:09]that way you know when you're religious you have to be very
[23:13]pious you have to go to the Himalayas somehow and find your
[23:16]soul someplace you soulsearching.
[23:17]You don't need to soul search on the Himalayas.
[23:21]Trust me, what's in us is bigger than the universe.
[23:24]Forget the Himalayas.
[23:26]It's in here.
[23:31]It's in here.
[23:34]My universe is greater than the universe.
[23:38]I promise you.
[23:37]When you and I see the potential of our own existence, subhan
[23:43]Allah.
[23:44]What is peripheral to us in terms of the outward universe this
[23:48]not within but without is much smaller than what's in here much
[23:53]smaller but we don't find it because we're busy indulging in mundane
[23:59]and we have ignored that which should be focused on and I'm
[24:03]sending a very clear message to myself and to all of us
[24:07]that our identity as Muslims particularly Clearly when we say Muslims not
[24:14]ones who just take a title of Muslims to me a Muslim
[24:20]by definition is one who understands Allah and knows Allah correctly.
[24:28]Sadly many Muslims don't know Allah.
[24:29]Allah is a name.
[24:32]He's a being out there somewhere.
[24:33]I've been told a lot of times about Allah and I do
[24:38]pray to him but I don't know him.
[24:40]And when and if I do know him, it's usually I know
[24:44]him through fear because he's so mighty he's going to throw me
[24:48]in hell and he's going to punish me or I do love
[24:49]him so much that I abuse him by ignoring him.
[24:54]The Allah I'm talking about is the essence of the ultimate good.
[25:00]You and I have that capacity to understand perfection that when we
[25:06]look at something beautiful, our mind somehow can take it to higher
[25:09]scale and say, you know what, this is incredibly beautiful.
[25:11]How do you know it's beautiful?
[25:14]Well, I'm comparing it.
[25:14]I said, you have the capacity to compare that which is not
[25:17]so beautiful to that which is more beautiful.
[25:18]Said yes.
[25:19]I said then you can also compare it to something intensely more
[25:22]beautiful.
[25:23]Right?
[25:24]I can imagine.
[25:26]I can fantasize intense beauty.
[25:27]And of course we have limitations to our fantasies until we experience
[25:30]it.
[25:31]Then we can take it to higher scales which is inshallah what
[25:33]will happen on judgment day after the day of judgment which is
[25:35]paradise.
[25:36]But nonetheless we have the capacity to take things mentally spiritually within
[25:41]our souls to perfection.
[25:43]And sometimes we're overwhelmed by it and we can't handle it because
[25:46]it's just too good.
[25:48]And then we come down to reality is it's impossible.
[25:50]That perfection is impossible.
[25:55]Well, guess what?
[25:55]That exercise the ability with which to understand that existence existential nature
[26:01]of perfection is sufficient evidence for us that you and I should
[26:05]understand Allah through that says Allah is before even before was before
[26:14]and he's after even after was after and he is not good
[26:20]he's beyond good is a relative term that's That's why Allah is
[26:24]absolute but our minds can't capture that and it's okay if we
[26:26]can't capture that.
[26:28]Allah doesn't expect us to capture it, but he expects us to
[26:30]make effort to try to capture it.
[26:35]And that effort should not be an exercise in futility, but it
[26:38]should be an exercise with which to say, "Okay, God, I know
[26:40]you're great.
[26:41]I know you're perfect.
[26:43]I know you're beyond perfect.
[26:44]I know you're intensely good.
[26:47]Thank you.
[26:49]Leave me alone." No.
[26:51]Is to say, "You are intensely beautiful.
[26:54]You made me.
[26:56]I am part of that beauty.
[26:58]How do I connect with you again?
[27:00]And I see nothing but good in you.
[27:04]When it starts to resonate within the fabric of our soul, hopefully
[27:09]we will start to live it.
[27:12]This is what it means.
[27:14]Not where you say I went to Hajj seven times.
[27:20]Mashallah.
[27:22]Nice.
[27:23]Haj is great.
[27:27]Do it more.
[27:25]went to Zara over 14 months.
[27:29]I kissed every sarcophagus, every I was there.
[27:34]I touched it with my bare hand.
[27:36]Mashallah.
[27:35]More power to you.
[27:38]Do it again because it's a baraka.
[27:39]Going to visit B, going to visit the graves, going to Hajj.
[27:43]These are great blessings.
[27:47]But sadly, it's surface.
[27:47]It's not reflective.
[27:50]It doesn't have the depth.
[27:51]You know, we went to do it because it's the ritual.
[27:52]I'm supposed to do it like a mechanical robotic thing.
[27:55]You know, there was a book of instructions.
[27:57]I need to do A and I need to do B and
[27:59]then I need to do this and I need to make sure
[28:01]everything's within the protocols otherwise God won't accept my deed and then
[28:05]when I come back I feel so purified and holified and then
[28:11]we go on our merry ways and we're the same as his
[28:16]companions did you go to Haj said yes he said did you
[28:21]change were you capable of seeing life differently did you see the
[28:25]world from a different perspective and the companion said No, the imam
[28:28]says go back there because you haven't figured it out yet.
[28:31]Hajj is not the kind of a ritual simply for us to
[28:34]go and put a seal of approval on our passports.
[28:35]I wish to say I'm a Haj.
[28:37]That's not the impetus of life.
[28:41]In fact, then I would be sitting on the sidelines and say,
[28:43]"Listen, why do I need to go and circumambulate the cabba seven
[28:45]times?
[28:46]Every time I would go around the cabba, I asked Allah, why
[28:51]am I doing this?
[28:50]Oh Allah, I'm saying, "Okay, I I I acknowledge you, my Lord.
[28:56]I see your house here.
[29:00]Subhan Allah.
[28:59]It's brilliant.
[29:01]It's historical.
[29:00]It's the oldest building on [Applause] earth." God said the best house,
[29:14][Music] first it's a blessing.
[29:18]So I'm asking myself, okay, this house is a blessing, but why
[29:21]am I here?
[29:23]Why does my left shoulder have to face this?
[29:25]And why do I have to do it seven times?
[29:27]And then after I've done the seven times, I need to do
[29:29]the two cycles of prayer.
[29:32]What is this?
[29:30]What's all this for?
[29:33]Why is why is like I'm a I'm a I'm a robot.
[29:37]Do it.
[29:38]And if you do it, it's good.
[29:38]I started to think.
[29:39]I started to cry.
[29:40]I said, "Wait a minute.
[29:40]My Lord, you didn't take me away from America to come here
[29:46]on this long journey and told me to dawn a special dress
[29:50]with special conditions only for me to write it in within my
[29:55]annals of history that I went to Haj so that I'm blessed
[29:59]on judgment day that I have, you know, check mark one item
[30:01]on the list of to-dos.
[30:05]Sadly, we're like that.
[30:08]I've done it.
[30:09]I'm pure.
[30:10]I'm saved.
[30:12]But then I think, okay, you know, there's roughly two billion Muslims.
[30:16]If you do the math, roughly three billion, three million people, 3
[30:21]million people come to Hajj every year.
[30:23]Roughly, you can't enter more.
[30:24]3 million is a lot.
[30:27]4 million.
[30:27]Even then there are rules and regulations.
[30:29]You have gateways to come through, you know, you can't just enter
[30:32]Makkah.
[30:33]You know that.
[30:34]You can't just like Z people say no 40 million people went
[30:37]to zah.
[30:38]But it's a different rule when you go to Zara from Hajj.
[30:43]Hajj when you're a Muim there's a different rule.
[30:44]You you can't just walk in and go kiss the Cabba and
[30:48]go around the Cabba.
[30:50]You can't do that.
[30:50]There are rules and regulations with which you need to follow.
[30:52]So it's much more difficult to enter the Cabba.
[30:57]And now you've added this extra burden of these creatures who are
[31:02]running the show there.
[31:09]you know what we call um brown roers of the west who
[31:12]have sold their souls to the west they control the cabba now
[31:17]you got to deal with that problem you can't even practice your
[31:21]faithfully they're monitoring you just scared you terrified of right so it's
[31:26]not easy and when we go there I say okay that's 2
[31:32]million 3 million there's two billion of us in in a 100
[31:35]years we can't cover this a thousand years you can't get it
[31:38]so there's a majority of the Muslim population that will not go
[31:44]to Haj what happens to them you all go to hell God's
[31:46]going to punish them of course not because we know the conditions
[31:49]right in Haj you need to have conditions but so then they're
[31:57]denied that proximity to God so I have wealth I'm endowed I'm
[32:02]blessed is it fair.
[32:03]There's a poor person who is begging every single day who will
[32:09]never see the precincts of the Cabba.
[32:12]Is it fair?
[32:10]So I asked my soul, is it fair that I am so
[32:15]blessed to live in a five-star hotel, threestar hotel, whatever.
[32:18]I can come in a bus, air conditioned, and I can do
[32:22]what I want and get back on a plane and fly away.
[32:25]I'm so blessed.
[32:27]So, will I stand higher on a scale on the day of
[32:32]judgment because I have all these amenities that God has afforded me
[32:36]versus that majority of the population that doesn't have it.
[32:45]Can you can you give me another microphone?
[32:55]Sorry.
[33:00]Say, can you just change the battery?
[33:02]It's very simple.
[33:12][Music] [Applause] I'm going to Can you hear me all of you?
[33:30]Yes.
[33:31]Yes.
[33:31]I'm just going to continue speaking in the microphone.
[33:34]Anyway, my point I'm saying is that Allah subhana ta in has
[33:40]warned us that time is against us and what's under trial is
[33:45]not our accomplishments of and our academics.
[33:48]These are all essential.
[33:49]Don't get me wrong.
[33:52]They're very important.
[33:52]Very important.
[33:53]But I urge us all that when we do indulge, even in
[33:57]prayer, even in Hajj, even in Zarat, let's look inside us and
[34:04]say, "Who am I?
[34:04]Who am I?
[34:06]And what have I what am I doing here?
[34:08]Why am I here?" And Allah will speak to us within our
[34:13]will say your objective no matter how accomplished you are in the
[34:17]world is to be conscious of God's ultimate goodness and to put
[34:22]it in you meaning stop being evil stop negating things stop hating
[34:30]start loving start seeing the fabric of God's creation as a mercy
[34:37]see humanity as a blessing Start living by that ethos and become
[34:43]a proponent of justice and equity in the world and stop backbiting
[34:48]and faultf finding and stop being jealous and stop looking down on
[34:52]others and stop being envious of those who are better than us
[34:55]and say I am within this scale of projections of you know
[35:01]productivity and growth and my approach to my Lord and then on
[35:04]judgment day when I do stand in front of him hopefully I'll
[35:08]be The foremost of the promise, who are they?
[35:14]They consistently thought of nothing but good.
[35:19]This message is very clear.
[35:22]It's not a complicated message.
[35:23]Even a young child like him looking at me understands this.
[35:25]These young boys looking at me.
[35:27]Same thing.
[35:29]Sister saying simple message.
[35:30]You're going to go home and say from now onwards I refuse
[35:34]to be a liar.
[35:34]I refuse to be manipulative.
[35:38]I refuse to be arrogant.
[35:39]I refuse to to cover my faults.
[35:41]I want it exposed.
[35:44]I want to improve.
[35:44]I want to become better.
[35:46]When you have the one who's successful in prayer, the one who
[35:57]approaches God with sincerity, that is what brings real identity.
[36:01]Then when you start to resonate, you become a beacon of light
[36:05]for humanity.
[36:06]And it doesn't matter what religion you belong to.
[36:10]The world will recognize you.
[36:11]The minute you walk into any area, people will recognize you as
[36:16]a different person.
[36:16]Just your resonance will be different.
[36:18]You don't have to tell people, "Excuse me, you know, I'm very
[36:20]pious." You don't have to say anything, nothing.
[36:24]Just you, the way you dress, the way you walk, the way
[36:30]you talk speaks louder than words.
[36:31]So Allah says, Except those who believe and do good.
[36:36]We think do believe means this and this that those are all
[36:39]subcomponents of life.
[36:39]Those are elements that help us towards Allah.
[36:45]The here is these prayers.
[36:49]For example, prayer keeps you away from evil and wrong.
[36:57]It helps you hijab.
[37:02]Our modesty and decency, our kind tongue, kind speech and forgiveness is
[37:07]better than charity followed by injury.
[37:09]God is saying these are the protocols when you recognize my ultimate
[37:14]good.
[37:15]If you know that I am ultimately good, that even if I
[37:17]take your entire family and they're annihilated at the hands of the
[37:20]enemies of God, God says, "Don't lose hope in me." People like
[37:26]Yaser witnessed his mother being stabbed with a spear and witnessed his
[37:30]father being stabbed with a spear.
[37:32]The first martyrs in Islam.
[37:32]Amma was a youth who became a believer in his 30s with
[37:38]the holy prophet.
[37:37]When he accepted Islam, Shayan was whispering in his ears, look you
[37:42]accepted this religion and you lost your parents.
[37:46]Not in that reg normal death, but in a treacherous death where
[37:51]they were taken in the desert and tied on the floor and
[37:54]stabbed and killed and he witnessed it.
[37:57]Which child can dare to witness the extinction of their parents on
[38:02]this earth?
[38:03]It's not normal.
[38:06]You can't go to sleep at night.
[38:08]You must live with a nightmare.
[38:10]Yet Amar in his old age old very old in his 90s
[38:15]they say you know 60 years later 50 years later he was
[38:18]in Raqqa Raka today the base of Dish and ISIS what an
[38:22]irony I was in Raqqa many years back you know where am
[38:25]the battle of Saf took place there and Amma was doing at
[38:30]the age in the '9s and I remember this message it struck
[38:33]me so deep I it doesn't leave me I was with my
[38:39]mother we visited the grave of it was just being built you
[38:41]know the sarcophagus and the was being built it was in raqa
[38:47]and I was on his grave you know doing fath for him
[38:52]and just admiring him and the footprints of our blessed Imam was
[38:56]here he buried him and you know it was just this time
[39:00]stops for that moment and you look around and say I can
[39:04]see the footprints of my imam I can see the footprints of
[39:06]this great mr and When I see me here, I said, "What
[39:12]an honor.
[39:10]I've traveled from America to Damash and driven almost 12 hours to
[39:18]get here." And here I am.
[39:19]I'm blessed and I walk this Euphrates.
[39:21]The footprints of our imams were immar talking to me.
[39:34]Says, "See me, I witnessed my mother's death.
[39:38]I witnessed my father's death.
[39:40]I was tested thoroughly.
[39:40]I reached a very old age.
[39:45]I came to Raqqa in this region to teach these people how
[39:48]to pray in Syria.
[39:52]And he sees the army of Imam Ali coming and he says
[39:55]that's my master.
[39:55]And he spills the water of the wudoo.
[39:57]He says I will go praying with my master.
[39:59]And he goes up there and he and imagine you know when
[40:04]you're 50 60 it's hard to carry a sword 90 carry a
[40:09]sword armor sit on a horse you know how how much dexterity
[40:13]you need to have to do that here's a man with resolution
[40:17]and vision and he's teaching me he says you are living in
[40:20]comfort I'm thinking in my cell in my soul you came in
[40:26]a car it's air condition you drove here I rode horses I
[40:29]rode camels.
[40:33]I walked and I maintained the identity of Islam and I rose
[40:37]and I never lost my faith despite all these trials and tribulations
[40:41]and I watched it with my eyes the injustices of the world
[40:46]that my messenger left that by the time he's leaving the injustices
[40:49]have started to be so prevalent such that mayhem and chaos is
[40:53]going to rain all the way to Kbar.
[40:55]But I haven't lost my faith.
[40:59]I am this identity that I'm going to go and become martyr
[41:02]now is the ultimate resolution on this earth.
[41:06]These people are now maybe I'll never reach that.
[41:09]I cried.
[41:08]I said I want to be in your footstep.
[41:10]Oh, I want to be in your footstep because you're a companion.
[41:14]But the companion says to me, start looking at the depth of
[41:19]God's mercy because you will not have that vision to maintain a
[41:22]steady pathway towards God unless you understand the mission of life.
[41:26]Otherwise, you will be derailed.
[41:27]Shayan will fool you.
[41:29]He will throw money at you.
[41:30]He will throw power at you.
[41:31]He will give you publicity.
[41:32]He'll give you everything and he will fool you and then you
[41:38]will lose.
[41:39]The way Shaitan lost.
[41:40]Shaitan was raised to high status until he lost it because he
[41:43]became arrogant thinking, "Oh, I'm some superstar." That's a problem.
[41:49]So our identity, brothers and sisters, is to be firm today in
[41:54]light of what's happening.
[41:54]Allah is telling us in the Quran [Music] Here the root word
[42:04]is to bequeath to leave behind to leave a legacy.
[42:11]You know when you die you leave a will.
[42:15]It's very powerful.
[42:17]Whenever a attorney or a judge reads a will is something special
[42:21]because the dead is talking.
[42:25]It's very important.
[42:26]Pay attention.
[42:26]Whenever you listen to a will, pay attention.
[42:29]Wow.
[42:30]This is I hereby this person is no longer here.
[42:35]But they're talking.
[42:36]They've left a legacy behind.
[42:39]It's wonderful.
[42:43]Quran says, truth, justice.
[42:45]Live by those standards.
[42:47]No money should be raining.
[42:49]No power, no publicity.
[42:54]Don't ever sell your soul tol or to the satanic what is
[43:02]in it pure sense teach long-term vision to our generations don't talk
[43:07]about just be patient it's okay no no talk to them about
[43:12]the future you know many of our youth and wives come to
[43:14]me said but how do I be good how can I be
[43:17]good I said think of tomorrow yesterday came to me she said
[43:21]you Oh, what's wrong if I high-five a boy?
[43:24]You know, he's a friend of mine.
[43:26]Just a boy, you know, boy, just a friend, you know, today
[43:30]boyfriend, you know what's wrong with you?
[43:36]So, I said to her, I said, "How about when you have
[43:38]your child tomorrow, your daughter is asking her and then this boy
[43:44]you're high-fiving could be the perpetrator that caused to take your shame
[43:49]away from you.
[43:48]Is that okay?" And by the way for you once he does
[43:52]you can't undo it.
[43:54]So I ask you which is better prevention or cure.
[43:56]She looked at me she said prevention.
[43:58]I said this is Islam.
[44:02]All these rules are not to be prohibited and to protect us
[44:05]because prevention is better than cure.
[44:06]So take it within that grain of salt.
[44:08]She said I understand what you mean by that.
[44:11]I said the problem we have is our next generation is not
[44:13]taught to think of the future.
[44:15]When you don't think of the future you think of today.
[44:19]You lose patience.
[44:19]Children who don't think of the future lose patience.
[44:23]And the best future is the future to meet Allah.
[44:26]Because the minute you see that real future, everything else is just
[44:33]passing over the cloud.
[44:33]You act in it, you're active, but you're patient.
[44:36]This is what Quran said.
[44:40]Allah says just be be patient, be patient.
[44:43]No, you're proactive and you are constantly moving, but you're patient by
[44:49]holding your tongue knowing that the law of God is such that
[44:52]good will come back.
[44:54]Good may be taken away from us today.
[44:57]Trump is pontificated in his throne on his throne.
[44:58]Let him bush came.
[45:02]He pontificated.
[45:03]He thought he was a genius and he thought God spoke to
[45:08]him and Allah probably sent him to Iraq and got rid of
[45:10]Saddam.
[45:11]Alhamdulillah and something different happened.
[45:14]Today the Middle East is run by the very nemesis of this
[45:21]country.
[45:22]You know the irony and the very institutions then fight for justice
[45:25]within the regions where they're being occupied.
[45:27]They're called terrorists.
[45:29]But today they're an indomitable force and they're getting more powerful and
[45:35]they're reaching the inner depths of nations and saying we are the
[45:39]we are of and the the world that wants to control and
[45:44]rule and shred the world because the corportocracies the ones who are
[45:48]billion billionaires who want to amass more wealth and we the general
[45:52]population need to be their slave in a feudal system.
[45:53]It's not working.
[45:55]I swear today we're living in a different world.
[45:59]We're not in the dark ages of Europe.
[45:59]Alhamdulillah, we have media, we have power, we have knowledge, we have
[46:04]dean.
[46:03]And this great religion, Islam, will continue to grow.
[46:07]But not at the force with guns.
[46:09]No, as a force with the ultimate flag, which is to promote
[46:14]good.
[46:13]This is what Zavam was.
[46:16]To me, she represents to me as a woman, as a wise
[46:18]woman, an intrepid woman, a woman who saw the carnage of her
[46:23]family.
[46:24]She didn't lose faith.
[46:25]And then when she went in front of Yazid and she says,
[46:29]"I see nothing but beauty and mercy." She's sending me a message.
[46:34]She's 14 centuries later or 14 million years later.
[46:38]When you are trying under these trials and tribulations, nowhere near what
[46:43]I have, but even if it encroaches this, don't forget this sentence.
[46:49]I see nothing but beauty and mercy.
[46:51]See the silver lining.
[46:54]live by it and Allah says for sure you will not be
[46:56]on the this to me is the true identity of Islam now
[47:00]when we talk about the politics of how we're going to go
[47:02]forward and about all this ban Muslim ban and also all of
[47:07]this remember as bad as the Bush the Bush administration was as
[47:10]bad as the Trump administration all the other administrations have their hands
[47:13]in blood to some degree let's not just point a finger at
[47:18]them I'm of the belief that we as a Muslim society have
[47:23]a lot to be blamed for.
[47:25]Our ignorance, our recklessness, our disunityity, our constant bickering within ourselves to
[47:33]cause disunityity within our communities is the very objective the enemy wants
[47:37]from us.
[47:39]And we are aiding within this institution.
[47:39]We can point a finger at this establishment group and say, "Well,
[47:43]they're bad.
[47:45]They're Islamophobes." They are because they're ignorant.
[47:52]They're afraid of us.
[47:53]They don't know us.
[47:54]It's an irony when you ask them, "What is Islam?
[47:55]What is the Quran?" They haven't read it.
[47:57]Ask them, "What does Islam?" They don't know.
[48:01]That's why they're ignorant.
[48:01]But let's not be like them.
[48:03]Sunni Shia, examine and see brotherhood.
[48:06]See the commonality.
[48:10]We are 95% plus common, 98% similar.
[48:14]We're common.
[48:16]Let's not listen to anybody bashing.
[48:18]We will bash anybody who is out there killing people indiscriminately and
[48:23]beheading people and causing mayhem.
[48:26]We say we reject that.
[48:26]But other than that, let's not give ear to disunityity within our
[48:31]community.
[48:32]You follow which one?
[48:34]Which center do you go to?
[48:35]Who's your who is your imam?
[48:36]Oh, you go to that one over there.
[48:37]Ah, he's bad.
[48:39]This one.
[48:41]Oh, this one's better.
[48:42]I'm loyalist.
[48:43]You know, I'm a loyalist.
[48:44]I'm a tribalist.
[48:46]I'm a nationalist.
[48:47]Is that what Allah commanded us on this earth to do?
[48:50]To walk around say, you know, I only support this group, not
[48:52]that group.
[48:53]Really?
[48:54]On what grounds?
[48:56]Who authorized you?
[48:55]And even if you do, do you condemn the other side?
[48:59]For if you do, then you're no different than the enemy.
[49:00]There's a difference in how we approach our communities.
[49:04]Let's be vigilant.
[49:05]Very important.
[49:08]Muslims, Christians, Jews, atheists, talk to them.
[49:10]See within the fabric of God's system that we are all within
[49:15]his mercy.
[49:14]And if there's an atheist out there, they're not necessarily bad.
[49:19]They're misinformed.
[49:18]And if you and I are so blessed to be informed, then
[49:24]let's inform them in the way Allah says.
[49:29]Invite them to the way of your Lord with kind exhortation and
[49:35]with good argumentation, not ad homonyms and condemnations and you're going to
[49:39]hell.
[49:38]You're Catholic.
[49:39]None of that stuff.
[49:41]and say, "No, we're the same and we're all within the mercy
[49:46]of God and we're all praying to be in his grace and
[49:48]we're all going to pray with each other to be in the
[49:52]highest stations of paradise." If we have that attitude, think about it,
[49:56]common sense, most of our problems on this earth will go away.
[49:59]We won't have borders.
[50:01]We won't have such bans.
[50:02]We won't have such criminal activities.
[50:04]Poor people traveling on the plane, arriving exhausted, they're not given entry.
[50:11]This outcome is due to ignorance.
[50:13]It's due to people who have an axe to grind.
[50:16]The way we're going to solve it is we're going to retaliate
[50:18]by kindness.
[50:20]As I imatic says, when an enemy is har is harm, I
[50:22]mean is harsh to you, punish them with kindness.
[50:26]May Allah give us the faith inshallah and to give us the
[50:31]strength to be within the protocols of the holy prophets the particularly
[50:37]in today's celebration to be within her pathway never to give up
[50:43]to be the flag bearer of justice and equity and in my
[50:49]opinion that is the true identity of Islam and Allah guarantees it
[50:51]in the Quran that you will be successful if you do the
[50:54]following four believe Do good, promote justice and promote patience.
[51:14]My respected sisters and brothers in Islam, may Allah bless you for
[51:21]joining us tonight and for gracing us on this programs and the
[51:23]NYC for doing a wonderful job that he usually does.
[51:28]Uh let's give them [Music]
