[0:00]you [Music] en la sala allah mohammad omar ali muhammad sallallahu taala
[0:39]fajita became a little Hawk Allah subhana WA Ta'ala States in the
[0:43]holy quran and what he says is the truth in the chapter
[0:47]of al baqara chapter 2 verse 185 shahru ramadana alladhi unzila fihi
[0:52]Lepore an woodenly nasi baba in a team in and hooda well
[0:55]for gone a loss of one of the other states in this
[0:59]verse of the holy quran in the first part of the verse
[1:03]he says the month of ramadan is the month in which allah
[1:05]revealed the holy quran as a guidance to people and as clarification
[1:09]and direction and as a separator between truth and falsehood famine shahida
[1:18]minkumu sh-shahra falyasumhu' who have witnessed the month then they must fast
[1:25]that month son of allahu al azim a man Nabila assalamu alaykum
[1:29]warahmatullahi wabarakatuh first and foremost I would like to congratulate my dear
[1:36]brothers and sisters around the world on this great occasion of the
[1:39]coming of the month of Ramadan I asked that a loss of
[1:43]Hanukkah Allah accepts your deeds that allah subhanaw taala makes you successful
[1:46]in reaching your goals in this month and that allah subhanaw taala
[1:50]bestows his mercy on us o my and removes all sickness and
[1:53]all ill health from everybody around the world insha'Allah I would actually
[1:58]also like to congratulate all of humanity and the mean most specifically
[2:02]as well as the Muslims and Allah mommyhood just an ally ally
[2:08]on the coming of the holy month for surely he sees us
[2:11]as we gather even online giving lectures and in this in our
[2:18]state of in which we feel closeness to him more than we
[2:21]ever have before so today I wanted to talk about goal setting
[2:27]and goal setting is probably something that many of us have been
[2:30]thinking about especially going through the difficulties that we've been going through
[2:33]recently what goals have I set for myself did I ever set
[2:39]goals for myself and if I did did I reach those goals
[2:41]am i exactly where I want to be in life or am
[2:45]I just thinking to myself in these days you know there's so
[2:49]much that I could have done that I should have done that
[2:51]I haven't done now in order to understand goal-setting it's important for
[2:55]us to look at it from three perspectives we'll look at it
[3:00]from a logical perspective then we'll look at it from an academic
[3:04]perspective and finally we'll look at it from an Islamic perspective and
[3:07]specifically as it pertains to the month of Ramadan insha'Allah the focus
[3:11]will be there so let's look at it from the logical perspective
[3:14]first now we know for a fact that we go through our
[3:21]lives in school in college at work setting goals for ourselves and
[3:25]we know that those who don't set goals for themselves while they're
[3:28]in school or college or or at work they tend to falter
[3:35]they tend not to be people who are dependable right we don't
[3:39]consider someone for example who at school doesn't plan for his assignments
[3:43]and and as a result ends up handing them late or ends
[3:49]up doing them last minute for example as a result of procrastination
[3:52]because they didn't have their goals in mind they didn't set a
[3:55]schedule for them to study and prepare to do their homework to
[4:02]prepare for their exams and or to actually prepare for their projects
[4:06]at work so what ends up happening is someone like this doesn't
[4:09]end up being very successful in their lives and this translates meaning
[4:14]that as we go through life as we get older and older
[4:18]the level of success and the goals that we want to achieve
[4:23]tend to err on the side of lack of achievement right and
[4:26]mediocrity and so we find then such people they tend to look
[4:32]up towards those who achieve their goals and do it well as
[4:35]those who have been successful in life and therefore goals are tied
[4:43]to success now whether your success is materialistic or your sexist your
[4:46]success is spiritual at the end of the road you have to
[4:52]set goals for yourself now we understand then that logically we do
[4:55]have to do that the issue is that logically where do we
[4:59]start right now always the first place to start is to look
[5:02]within ourselves to contemplate and understand where we fit in to this
[5:10]world and we know that since the creator of something is not
[5:12]limited by his creations then the creator of all of limitation must
[5:18]be unlimited and that he is the creator the creator of all
[5:24]things and his most important characteristic is that he is the unlimited
[5:28]and this is the reference point that we must start from always
[5:31]all things in our lives we must start from this reference point
[5:37]why because this is what's going to make us understand where we
[5:40]fit in this life once I understand that that my Creator is
[5:44]unlimited and that means therefore that he is all perfect because a
[5:49]flaw and a deficiency is a limitation that I understand that I
[5:52]have purpose in this life because he is all purposeful he has
[5:55]to be all purposeful I understand that he is all-wise and therefore
[6:01]everything that comes from him is out of his wisdom including the
[6:03]challenges that I go through in life and I understand as well
[6:06]that he is all just because he is all perfect and therefore
[6:10]everything that I go through from natural disasters to to other difficulties
[6:15]and challenges and that are either by my own doing or by
[6:17]somebody else's doing that these are challenges that are only going to
[6:22]help me become stronger and a better person and therefore I understand
[6:28]that everything in this life has a purpose is has a justice
[6:31]behind it and that is out of a lost wisdom and that
[6:36]I know that even though I might not realize the supreme justice
[6:39]and the wisdom that because he is all knowledgeable then means that
[6:44]there is a reason behind everything that I don't necessarily always understand
[6:50]once I understand this now I say okay let me see them
[6:55]how it is that he operates this creator of mine does he
[6:59]set goals we notice that everything in this world is intricately intricately
[7:03]designed everything even from the natural disasters that occur in different areas
[7:08]of the world whether it's an earthquakes at the fault lines he's
[7:11]already pre-planned the fault lines on this earth so that they would
[7:16]be the place where pressure would be relieved when the Earth's core
[7:19]starts to rumble and the tectonic plates start to move and the
[7:22]volcano start to erupt and the earthquakes occur and the tsunamis occur
[7:25]in turn you see everything then in this world from the Sun
[7:31]rising to its setting from the movement of the planets around their
[7:34]orbits is pre-planned by Allah to operate in a specific way whether
[7:39]it's the seed that is planted in the earth how it sprouts
[7:42]and why it sprouts it means the water from the clouds the
[7:46]clouds need the water from the lakes and from the oceans and
[7:49]from the rivers and from the Seas in order for it to
[7:51]evaporate to create the clouds and they need the wind to move
[7:56]them across onto the earth and the land masses and for the
[7:59]clouds to collide as a result of the movement of the wind
[8:03]and for the rain to fall for the lightning to strike for
[8:06]the nitrogen to fertilize the earth and for that seed then to
[8:10]grow and flourish and come out with leaves pointing towards this creator
[8:14]almost in thanks to a lost panel Tata and so then I
[8:22]realized that I to take this and be that I must plan
[8:27]my life with my Creator and this entire life in this entire
[8:31]universe once I understand is logically then then I say ok well
[8:34]proving that Allah is the unlimited creator means then that I have
[8:37]purpose in life and therefore everything that I do has to be
[8:41]in dedication to showing gratitude to him so the most ultimate goal
[8:44]that I must have is that every goal that I want to
[8:49]achieve has to be as a show of gratitude to him and
[8:54]in appreciation time that's the ultimate goal we means then I went
[8:59]from understanding fundamentally where I come from why I'm here who created
[9:03]me and that my ultimate purpose and my end goal in life
[9:08]is to please him so that I can receive an ultimate reward
[9:10]just like if I go into a tournament but whether it's basketball
[9:13]or football or or an individual sport such as tennis for example
[9:18]or golf that at the end of the road I want that
[9:19]trophy so I'm going to go through whatever training I need to
[9:25]do in order for me to be able to reach that goal
[9:27]that I want to reach which means that first and foremost I
[9:31]have to sit back and I have to contemplate where am I
[9:36]in life what have I achieved what tools do I have what
[9:38]can I use now in order to be able to show my
[9:42]appreciation and my thankfulness and my gratitude to Allah and how can
[9:46]I dedicate every single faculty that I have to him I know
[9:50]first and foremost that if I look at his characteristics from his
[9:54]patience and his tolerance and his kindness and his benevolence to all
[9:57]of his creations I know first and foremost that these must be
[10:00]goals that are going to help me achieve my ultimate goal of
[10:06]gratitude Tim I understand that emulating him and how he treats everything
[10:11]with perfection that I too must work towards treating everything with perfection
[10:15]so just like he gives everyone and everything worth then I must
[10:19]give everything in everyone worth because he's given it worth just like
[10:23]he's given everything time that I must afford everything my time also
[10:29]but of course very wisely and only if it meets that goal
[10:32]of showing Allah my appreciation that I don't waste my time the
[10:35]time that he has afforded all of creation because time is at
[10:40]the end of the road limited and therefore I must split that
[10:42]time in phases so that I can achieve these goals so I
[10:47]would place a time for giving charity I would place a time
[10:49]for seeing my parents and connecting with them I would place some
[10:52]time for spending time with my good friends choosing the friends based
[10:57]on that moral compass that Allah has given me only those who
[11:00]seek to progress who seek to appreciate Allah who have dedicated themselves
[11:05]to Allah are the types of friends that I must keep and
[11:08]therefore they're more likely to help me maintain the goal that I
[11:13]need to maintain and that is to get the closeness to Allah
[11:16]that I need now they become my training partners as a result
[11:19]and I also realize that once I do that what happens is
[11:24]that I need to write all of these goals down so that
[11:31]I solidified them so once I realize them I need to now
[11:33]write them down to solidify them I need to put together the
[11:38]workforce that's going to help me achieve these goals from setting every
[11:42]single moment of my day what I'm going to do in that
[11:44]date whether it's relaxation time or contemplation time or spending time with
[11:48]family like we said or spending time with friends like we said
[11:53]work time as well right and then once I've set those on
[11:56]paper they become set in stone they become part of my routine
[12:03]and part of my routine has to be my worship for allah
[12:06]subhanaw taala um which means that i need to make sure that
[12:11]the hours that I spend are very very meticulously spent how a
[12:15]and how I realized that I need to spend my time logically
[12:20]speaking but B also in realizing what he has commanded me to
[12:24]do and that is where I have to look at the message
[12:27]to see what he has ordained for me and decreed for me
[12:32]to do in order for me to say oh I have fulfilled
[12:33]what you have asked me to do because just as we know
[12:38]that our parents set tasks for us that our Creator also must
[12:41]set tasks for us and that those tasks are in the message
[12:47]that he sends me those tasks are relayed to me just as
[12:50]my parents guide me and tell me how to be a good
[12:54]person that those tasks from Allah are relayed to me through the
[12:57]message that is explained to me through the messenger himself and those
[13:02]that need proof of how we prove the message and his necessity
[13:05]and its legitimacy we need to look at the past lectures that
[13:08]we gave that are recorded and that are available inshallah for you
[13:13]to watch on the NYC web site now now then we've reached
[13:20]then the a very critical point and that is we've realized a
[13:24]foundational e and the core principles that and we have to abide
[13:31]by those are divine principles number one right number two that I
[13:36]need to dedicate everything within me everything that my Creator has afforded
[13:40]me to achieving the ultimate goal of showing appreciation and gratitude and
[13:45]for Allah giving me my existence and for affording me the opportunity
[13:50]to know him and to UM work towards and progress towards perfection
[13:57]and through emulating him as we said and how he treats everyone
[14:03]and then writing down all those things that are that would be
[14:06]considered goals that will help me achieve my ultimate goal right to
[14:09]reach that endzone to win the ultimate trophy of the reward in
[14:14]the hereafter and that is to see how he treats everyone number
[14:17]one and write those down be patient be tolerant be kind be
[14:21]merciful write B be the type of person that treats others as
[14:30]he expects to be treated no actually be the type of person
[14:34]who treats others as a lot treats them paradigm shift their right
[14:41]because we realize that the worth of every individual that every individual
[14:46]is as valuable as he who gave them value and that is
[14:49]a loss of Hamilton and therefore I realized their worth and I
[14:53]realized my work right and then I asked well what it is
[14:55]what is it oh Allah that you have decreed for me so
[14:58]I have to look towards the message and the messenger in order
[15:01]to realize what it is that I should achieve in terms of
[15:06]Islamic laws right in terms of ethics and how his messenger and
[15:08]acted and now from here then we would be ready to move
[15:13]on to the academic perspective and then to the religious perspective so
[15:16]now that I've got my head straight now that I understand rationally
[15:19]where I need to be now that I understand that anything that
[15:22]doesn't fall in line with those goals is out the door I
[15:27]need not partake in it at all so wasting time spending time
[15:32]with friends that aren't going to help me achieve those goals is
[15:37]not is unhealthy for me and won't allow me to reach the
[15:40]ultimate goal exactly like if I am training for example and my
[15:47]new year's resolution is to lose weight and to become a strong
[15:51]athlete I need to maintain a specific goal every specific goal that
[15:56]I set for myself is for that ultimate goal of losing let's
[16:02]say 40 pounds or 50 pounds as an example make sure everybody's
[16:05]thin the end they don't need to lose that much weight to
[16:10]just mean and then everything that I do has to fall in
[16:12]line so monthly I would for example plan well during this month
[16:17]this is my goal I need to lose let's say 5 pounds
[16:19]this next month I need to lose let's say another 5 pounds
[16:24]or 4 pounds let's say a pound a month and then or
[16:25]sorry a pound a week and then I would set what my
[16:29]eating schedule would be whether I'm doing intermittent fasting for example or
[16:33]whether I'll be eating the three times a day or five times
[16:38]a day the portions of my meals how much protein I'm consuming
[16:41]how many how many carbs I'm consuming how much fats I'm consuming
[16:45]and that way I can monitor myself right and so I do
[16:50]the same thing for every single part of my life just as
[16:52]I would do it for my exercise right because this body is
[16:56]entrusted to me by a loss of hanataro so I must take
[17:00]care of it I must utilize it in a manner that will
[17:01]allow me to worship Him optimally right and the same then applies
[17:07]to my mind the amount of time that I spent in for
[17:09]example gaining spirituality so I have to set that goal for myself
[17:15]that if I want to be spiritual that I need to set
[17:17]the time aside to do that monthly weekly and daily set the
[17:22]schedule set the regimen right and then the same thing applies to
[17:26]my work schedule the same thing applies to my family goes now
[17:30]when we move on to the academic perspective what do we find
[17:34]and I'm going to focus on one book this book is called
[17:36]the seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey you might
[17:39]have heard me mention this book before today I wanted to talk
[17:45]about um a very important thing that he actually says in his
[17:49]book and he mentions it really really beautifully um he says that
[17:53]first and foremost remember Stephen Covey if you don't know him Stephen
[17:56]Covey is actually a reverend an actual fact he's a preacher so
[18:02]he actually comes from a background where he understands his connection with
[18:08]with with his Lord he understands at least at the level that
[18:13]he knows that everything has to come from a moral base a
[18:18]moral foundation which is exactly what we logically came to right so
[18:21]what does he say he says first and foremost you have to
[18:23]set your moral compass that way let's say for example you're busy
[18:28]with work you find yourself always busy with work or busy with
[18:30]school you don't have time for your parents you don't have time
[18:33]for your kids you don't have time for your wife you feel
[18:35]guilty every time you spend time with your with your loved ones
[18:38]and you feel guilty every time you spend time working right and
[18:43]so he says through that guilt out the door you need to
[18:46]set your moral compass and your moral compass is what you need
[18:52]to bounce everything off of so if your moral compass dictates that
[18:55]you have family time quality family time then that is what you
[18:58]need to do and you need to make sure that you set
[19:02]time aside for that okay when you have work set time aside
[19:05]for work don't try to do both don't try to don't try
[19:12]to multitask don't try to multitask multitasking doesn't work scientifically proven fact
[19:18]that multitasking is just the spreading of your attention that's all it
[19:25]is and the studies show that it takes literally 17 minutes to
[19:29]regain your attention so if I for example split my attention between
[19:32]two or three things then every time I split my attention once
[19:39]I literally end up having to spend another 17 minutes until I
[19:42]can regain my attention for the first point that I was working
[19:44]on and as I split my attention more and more you can
[19:48]imagine it takes an even longer time for me to regain my
[19:49]attention so scientifically speaking it doesn't work okay so don't multitask don't
[19:54]feel guilty because you're spending time with your family he says you
[19:58]need to forget about that concept you need to have a paradigm
[20:02]shift he says because you need to set your moral compass and
[20:04]everything has to be based on that ok so that's number one
[20:09]then what does he do he breaks things down into these seven
[20:11]habits he says now that we've established the space then I want
[20:13]you to understand that there are several habits that you have to
[20:17]do one is you have to sharpen your saw two is you
[20:21]have to be proactive three you have to begin with the end
[20:23]in mind for you have to put first things first five you
[20:29]have to think win-win six you have to seek first to understand
[20:32]then to be understood to synergize so what does he mean by
[20:36]each one of these so sharpening the saw means going back to
[20:42]basics just as we figured out logically we need to go back
[20:45]to the drawing board we need to sit and we need to
[20:48]write down what things are going to help us achieve our goals
[20:53]so if I need to spend more time reading and learning then
[20:55]that's what I need to do I'm not going to get that
[21:00]promotion at the end of the road unless I have developed myself
[21:03]right so that I can stand out of the crowd so for
[21:10]example if I want to get a raise at work I might
[21:12]work on getting my bachelor's degree in business if I already have
[21:17]my bachelor's degree then I might work on getting my NBA right
[21:20]and I push myself into a higher tax bracket a higher income
[21:23]bracket by doing so right and if that company doesn't give me
[21:29]the promotion then I can confidently look for other work in order
[21:32]to be able to do that the same applies to other parts
[21:36]of my life so sharpening the saw spiritually also so if I
[21:39]want to for example let's say recite the Holy Quran and be
[21:44]better at reciting the Holy Quran this year then I need to
[21:46]spend more time doing that and I think I need to set
[21:49]time aside and that's what sharpening the saw means also let's say
[21:52]for example my New Year's resolution is to lose weight like we
[21:55]mentioned in our logical perspective then that's what I need to do
[22:00]I need to figure out all the things that need to be
[22:01]in place I need to figure out all the things that sabotage
[22:05]me all of those triggers and I need to make sure that
[22:12]I stay away from those triggers now that I understand this now
[22:15]what I need to do is I need to say okay and
[22:19]what's the next habit that's important for me to look at according
[22:21]to him he says be proactive he says don't sit around and
[22:27]wait for things to happen right recognize that you have to take
[22:31]the initiative to find those things that stand in your way and
[22:35]move away from them avoid them so that they don't sabotage you
[22:42]right don't build yourself up to be a martyr okay be proactive
[22:44]in setting in following the goals that you need to set and
[22:50]those goals also include positive self-talk reminding yourself that these are achievable
[22:54]goals reminding yourself of and why you're doing things and that brings
[22:58]us to the next habit the third habit he mentions is begin
[23:03]with the end in mind why should you begin with the end
[23:06]of mind because just like any good athlete will tell you um
[23:13]whether it's a swimmer like Michael Phelps or it's you know a
[23:17]football team at the end of the road you're looking at getting
[23:24]that trophy it's not just the endzone in your training it's reaching
[23:27]the endzone several times and winning every single time so that at
[23:30]the end of the road at the end of the tournament you
[23:32]have that gold medal or you have that trophy surrounding yourself with
[23:36]the right people in order to do that is going to help
[23:38]you achieve your goals right having people who are like-minded who gives
[23:43]you that positive self-talk is going to help you do that and
[23:47]reminding yourself always that the reason why you're going through what you're
[23:50]going through right now is because of that end goal that whatever
[23:52]struggle you're going through right now is going to end anyway it's
[23:58]a limited world so always remember your end goal a my end
[24:00]goal is to go is to go to genuine right to receive
[24:04]the ultimate reward of eternal happiness and bliss and in order to
[24:08]do that I have to work through the struggles of this life
[24:12]right negotiate through all of these struggles so that I can become
[24:16]stronger and more capable and more deserving of the Almighty saying you
[24:20]know what you've earned it right and the same applies to my
[24:23]work the next habit that he mentions the fourth habit is put
[24:30]first things first always prioritize don't always be in a state of
[24:34]emergency and he mentions this these four quadrants one of the important
[24:38]quadrants that he mentions is that people always tend to live in
[24:45]an urgent important quadrant meaning that we're always on our heels right
[24:49]we're always trying to get things down last minute we need to
[24:52]step out of that once we sharpen our saw once we set
[24:57]what our goals are and we adhere to them right we're setting
[24:59]our strategic plans for our life for our health for our career
[25:06]then all we have to do is follow those steps and if
[25:09]we do that then we won't live in an urgent important quadrant
[25:13]all the time right we'll recognize that there are things that are
[25:16]unand and are but are important and things that are unimportant what
[25:21]may be urgent and things that are neither urgent nor important if
[25:25]I can live in in the other three quadrants six other than
[25:32]instead of that destructive quadrant where I'm always on my heels then
[25:35]I will have been able to organize my life in a better
[25:36]fashion right so that means then that every single goal that I
[25:41]take has to be prioritized what do I need to do first
[25:43]right I shouldn't skip steps we know for example we see on
[25:49]TV these days about the reopening of America as an example we
[25:52]find that the argument that you know you can't skip steps you
[25:57]have to go through the phases you can't jump from phase one
[25:59]all the way to Phase three otherwise you're going to cause a
[26:01]catastrophe people will die destruction will occur right and the same thing
[26:07]will happen when when we're planning our lives will end up self-destructing
[26:11]by doing something like this never skip steps always follow the plan
[26:14]right and anything that doesn't fall within the lines of the plan
[26:20]we need to get rid of it the next thing is when
[26:21]we're in this life we're not dealing with ourselves alone we're dealing
[26:28]with other people also which means that we always have to think
[26:31]win-win when I recognize the value of other people right then I'm
[26:34]going to say well just as they does I deserve to win
[26:38]just as I deserve the feeling of getting what I want these
[26:41]people also deserve the feeling of getting what they want as well
[26:45]and so what happens I end up focusing on not just getting
[26:48]what I want - being selfish like certain world leaders for example
[26:54]instead I focus on the greater good right that my success is
[26:57]the success of society the next thing that I look at the
[27:04]sixth habit that is mentioned in his book is seek first to
[27:07]understand and then to be understood so again that falls into the
[27:11]idea of valuing others valuing others have been so many academics tell
[27:19]us including Stephen Covey as well as other academics they say that
[27:23]most of us when we listen to people we aren't really listening
[27:26]we're just waiting until we give them an answer listen to say
[27:35]focus on listening exercising listening becomes extremely important for us to do
[27:43]the next thing that I need to do is once I listen
[27:46]to people I need to value their opinion now I know that
[27:48]Allah uses everybody on this earth and therefore I must value their
[27:50]opinion this is basically what he's telling us right value other people's
[27:54]opinions the next thing that I have to do is I need
[27:58]to synergize meaning that I need to learn how to work in
[28:02]a group right I need to be able to work seamlessly and
[28:05]harmoniously within society and within the people around me now that then
[28:08]brings us to the end of the academic view right so far
[28:13]we notice that what we have learned from the academic perspective is
[28:17]extremely similar to what we were able to conclude from the logical
[28:21]perspective now let's see what the Quran and what Ellen may tell
[28:24]us regarding the Islamic perspective now in order to understand the Islamic
[28:29]perspective since we are in the month of ramadhan it's important for
[28:32]us to understand that just as logically we know that our car
[28:39]needs maintenance right every three months you need to take it for
[28:41]an oil lube & filter and we know that our computers we
[28:46]need reformatting we know that our phones if we don't clear them
[28:49]up clear out their memory what ends up happening is they slow
[28:52]down right and they end up slowing down our phone calls they
[28:58]end up causing us all sorts of havoc when we're in the
[28:59]middle of a bit important meetings and so it's important for us
[29:04]to not only give our phones arrest shut them off but we
[29:07]also need to clear them out every now and then correct and
[29:10]we need to do that on a regular basis because if we
[29:14]don't do that what's going to happen we end up slowing down
[29:15]our computer slowing down our mobile phones falling down our lives as
[29:18]a result and so and the month of Ramadan in Islam is
[29:25]that month of reformatting it is that month that allows us to
[29:31]go back to basics it is the month that allows us to
[29:35]realize them what's the value what everything is worth why we do
[29:40]everything how it is we can go back to basics and get
[29:47]a clearer perspective on life now the verse that we started out
[29:50]with Allah Subhan Allah Allah says in the Holy Quran again in
[29:54]chapter 2 verse 185 he says shahru ramadana alladhi unzila fihi pour
[29:58]on o hood and in nacio by unity minute buddha well for
[30:03]Han he says the month of Ramadan is the month in which
[30:05]the holy quran was revealed as a guide to people not just
[30:11]the muslims to people in general were bayonetted minal Hudur and a
[30:16]clarification of that guidance well for fun and what and that it
[30:20]is a separator between truth and falsehood why because if we follow
[30:25]it then we're following the truth what allah subhanaw taala decreed for
[30:30]us in the message as we and came to a clear conclusion
[30:32]of the importance of reaching that important goal and understanding what Allah
[30:36]has decreed for us by asking what he wants so Allah tells
[30:40]us what he wants and expects of us in this month through
[30:42]the Holy Quran as well as through a little bit through the
[30:47]prophet sallallahu alaihi wa sallam and then the Prophet clarifies exactly this
[30:52]guidance for us and it becomes a way for us to know
[30:53]if what we're doing is in line with our ultimate goal of
[31:00]pleasing allah subhanaw taala orphan outer or if it's out of line
[31:03]as allah subhanallah states in the chapter of and in san in
[31:08]verse 3 he says in my shockula in makkah for anonymous sibylla
[31:10]in ma shockula when ma cavora we have guided him to the
[31:14]straight path either he is thankful he stays on that path he
[31:20]is steadfast or he is unthankful in disbelieving so that is where
[31:23]then the Quran becomes a foregone it becomes the way for us
[31:27]to know whether we're on the right path the Surat must attain
[31:30]the straight path to success ultimate success in the hereafter or whether
[31:34]we're busy following our way in not I'm setting true goals for
[31:40]us that are going to make us successful in the hereafter Allah
[31:43]Spano Tejada says in the Holy Quran well at Italian how a
[31:48]viola you can say vanilla and do not follow your whim because
[31:51]it's the greatest saboteur following your carnal desires right because what ends
[31:57]up happening is you little you can seven in love it will
[31:59]cause you to veer often deviate from the straight path to pleasing
[32:05]a loss of Hana Hana so Allah clearly reflects and in the
[32:08]holy quran in the holy verses exactly what we came to with
[32:14]our logical conclusion so Han Allah so to understand then how to
[32:18]reformat ourselves how to reset our goals how to set our moral
[32:21]compass we look at what prophet muhammad salallahu alayhi wa sallam told
[32:27]us to do in his speech in welcoming the holy month of
[32:31]ramadan on the last friday of Shaban and subhanAllah this year the
[32:35]last day of the month of Shaban is a Friday so let's
[32:42]see what Ameer al-mumineen salam ala a narrates to us that and
[32:47]prophet muhammad said in this sermon that he delivered to them on
[32:53]the last friday of the month of ramadan the Prophet said I
[32:56]even asked o people in the hope that a Bella Elisha rule
[33:01]ahi be Baraka Kiawah Rock McEwin atmósfera he says the month of
[33:07]Allah so the month of Ramadan is the month of Allah remove
[33:10]on then means that means that it is one of the names
[33:16]of alone we say the month of Ramadan and we say the
[33:19]month of Allah then Ramadan is another name for Allah and therefore
[33:23]we must never say Ramadan alone we must always say the month
[33:28]of Ramadan so that we understand that this month is the month
[33:30]of allah subhanaw taala the Prophet says it is approaching you with
[33:35]Allah blessings and baracan and aroma his mercy well in math fella
[33:43]and his forgiveness so this is a month of blessings and mercy
[33:46]and forgiveness he continues to say shiburin who and the lawyer of
[33:51]the show this month according to Allah is the best of months
[33:54]well a Yamaha a floral a.m.
[33:58]and it's days are the best of days well a re of
[34:01]the Lully Ali and it's night the best of nights what's our
[34:05]motto of law Rashad and it's ours are the best of ours
[34:11]he then says who are under 18 feet allow the official he
[34:15]says this is a month in which you have been invited you
[34:19]have been honored by being invited by Allah subhana WA Ta'ala for
[34:26]he is your host in this month and we know that when
[34:29]we invite people Carnell to our best China we make sure that
[34:35]we cook the best of food that everything that our guests once
[34:40]we make sure that we provide to them we treat them as
[34:42]though we're saying to them we're at your service at your beck
[34:47]and call whatever we need as a sign whatever you need from
[34:49]us we are willing to give you and we'll be happy and
[34:54]joyous to provide for you out of our graciousness right so in
[34:57]this month then if we are guests to a LAN a large
[35:04]doll perfect then imagine imagine we are in the presence of the
[35:08]greatest of hosts he is the one that is saying to us
[35:12]I am at your service tell me what you want I am
[35:17]at your beck and call how amazing is Allah subhana WA Ta'ala
[35:20]to afford us this great opportunity that he himself says to us
[35:24]the Baker Abdi that I am at your service because he is
[35:28]hosting us so he says what you're able to fame and ali
[35:32]karram at Allah of course he says and you have been made
[35:34]as a result of those who have been graced and are in
[35:40]the grace of allah subhanaw taala huwa he says and faster convey
[35:44]to spare so what are these things that we are graced with
[35:49]by Allah how does allah subhanaw taala show us that he is
[35:51]a gracious host he says and faster come via the sphere he
[35:57]says your breath is an exaltation subhanAllah we have a high time
[36:01]during our regular days remembering Allah we choose the football game we
[36:05]choose the UFC match we choose the even the golf game lo
[36:13]and behold golf we choose the golf game we choose we choose
[36:17]the the Formula One races over Salaam / remembrance of Allah Subhan
[36:22]Allah we choose our work / remembrance of Allah we say to
[36:27]our kids just one minute just one minute I'll be I'll be
[36:28]there in a minute to pray start before me right no no
[36:32]just 30 seconds and the basketball game will be over there in
[36:38]over time right we forget Allah we become heedless but in this
[36:41]month Allah says you can't be heedless in this month and fast
[36:46]to convey this fear that your breath is an exaltation you don't
[36:50]ascribe a partner to Allah not a TV not a human being
[36:55]not a whim nothing allah subhanaw taala says he says i've reformatted
[36:59]you automatically even your breath is an exaltation then he says when
[37:03]I will configure a body even your sleep is considered worship why
[37:07]am I looking FEMA McMullen every day throughout the year usually I
[37:13]don't know if my deeds are accepted or not because I don't
[37:15]know if my original intention matches with the deed that I did
[37:20]but in this month allah subhanaw taala says he says now you
[37:35]and I don't know if Allah will accept but in this month
[37:41]Allah says your doha is accepted your Doha will be answered then
[37:47]he starts to tell me how it is that I'm going to
[37:52]be able to achieve my goals in this month he says fellow
[37:57]Rebecca Vinnie Anton saw declare what will open by heaven he says
[38:00]go back to basics I want you to have honest true intentions
[38:08]when you're asking Allah and are and make sure that you purify
[38:12]your hearts so that you have sincerity to him alone and to
[38:17]no one else not so that you can beat out your friends
[38:19]in being a better human being in having greater spirituality no be
[38:25]sincere to Allah run your own race connect with Allah on a
[38:32]personal level and ask him he says what should we ask him
[38:34]he says and you Africa calmly as I am that he makes
[38:40]you successful in fasting this month and we know that fasting isn't
[38:43]just one thing that you do it's a composition of things you
[38:50]have to refrain from many things you have to refrain from eating
[38:53]yes you have to refrain from drinking yes you have to refrain
[38:56]from being with your wife during the day yes right but you
[39:02]also have to refrain from saying bad things so you have to
[39:06]have the fasting of the tongue you have to refrain from listening
[39:10]to bad things so you have to have the fasting of the
[39:13]ears you have to make your eyes fast from looking towards firaon
[39:18]and your hands fasting from moving towards touching Hara and your legs
[39:25]fasting from walking towards Haram and your belly fasting from consuming Haram
[39:31]and your privates fasting from doing or expose or exposure to Haram
[39:37]and so therefore liquidity Sheikh in cyan has a lien on job
[39:41]for a success everything has its own state of fasting and the
[39:44]fasting of the body is too fast every single one of his
[39:50]faculties and dedicated to Allah subhanAllah isn't that what we illogically came
[39:55]to in the logical perspective that we should dedicate every single faculty
[40:00]to Allah and this is what the Prophet tells us to do
[40:03]and to ask for in this holy month so that's what he
[40:09]means by ask him to make you successful in fasting this month
[40:13]the next thing he says he says what till our tikki tavi
[40:15]he says and also in reciting his holy book so that is
[40:21]then we have to focus on what we must refrain from and
[40:23]we must focus on gaining knowledge by connecting with the Holy Quran
[40:29]no you say chef now I don't read the Quran in Arabic
[40:31]what should I do I don't understand it even if I do
[40:36]know how to read it well if you don't know how to
[40:37]read the Quran in Arabic then at least listen to it there's
[40:41]barakah in that because imam ja'far saw that salam ala ra says
[40:44]that he who listens to at least one letter of the holy
[40:50]quran receives one husana one reward and we know that al hasan
[40:52]I be Ashley I'm sorry huh and the Holy Quran Allah states
[40:54]therefore that one has an is equivalent to ten and if you
[40:59]know how to recite it an imam ja'far al-sadiq says that with
[41:01]every letter you receive ten has a knot which means that ten
[41:05]times ten is a hundred so you receive a hundred as a
[41:07]knot for every letter of the holy quran that you can recite
[41:11]even if you don't understand it and then of course allah says
[41:14]in the holy quran and allah hey I feel better attend f1
[41:18]the Imam says Prophet Muhammad says by way of amirul mumineen Allah
[41:21]hey geography appear as in lay severe heart add up or that
[41:25]there is no good in reading without understanding and Allah says this
[41:29]animal in Quran he says affiliate at the Beruna for Anna and
[41:32]Allah Ruben at Fatima do they not take the time to understand
[41:36]all the Quran or are there locks on their hearts now you
[41:39]might say well I won't be able to finish the Holy Quran
[41:41]if I focus on this on its meanings but there's no good
[41:45]in just reciting without understanding so if you can't do both then
[41:49]focus on understanding the meanings of the Holy Quran so have that
[41:56]as a goal so if you can't recite well make a goal
[41:58]to recite right if you don't understand what you're reciting then make
[42:04]it to learn and understand what you're reciting by having the Arabic
[42:08]listening to the Arabic or having the Arabic on one side and
[42:11]having the English on the other side spending time with your local
[42:14]scholars to learn from them also as well then listening to the
[42:22]Holy Quran correct that that's the least that you can do then
[42:25]the Prophet says he says for inertia pmn Halima well for an
[42:30]ally if he had a Chevrolet lien he says there's only one
[42:33]person who will be deprived from the mercy of Allah and the
[42:37]forgiveness of Allah in this month and that's the deviant person you
[42:43]see how is it that someone can come out of this month
[42:47]where Allah has purified us completely in this month if we fast
[42:53]that we can come out of this month with any sense at
[42:55]all it becomes impossible if just listening to the holy words of
[43:00]the holy quran when each letter will give us ten hasanat right
[43:03]and we know that al hasanat Temper say you're not that doing
[43:08]good deeds according to the holy quran erases bad deeds and that
[43:14]one Hassanein is equivalent to ten good deeds which means that ten
[43:18]bad deeds will be erased with every good deed that i do
[43:22]so with every letter that I hear from the Holy Quran I'm
[43:24]going to be able to do what to erase ten and bad
[43:28]deeds which means if though if I listen to the whole Quran
[43:31]and the whole Quran has 6,000 verses or over then how can
[43:37]I have a single sin that hasn't been forgiven at the end
[43:41]of this month I can't it's impossible then he says remember he
[43:47]says what kuru visually kumoi pasha comfy in this month remember with
[43:52]your hunger and you were with your thirst yes those who are
[43:56]less fortunate than you but he says remember your state how you
[43:59]will be on the day of judgment he says booth kuru Bijou
[44:05]I come if kuru Bijou I come well how does she come
[44:10]film entailment you are fira and yama niyama t wash a jew
[44:13]i am al qiyamah tear out a shelf on your hunger in
[44:17]your thirst on the day of judgment meaning he's telling you begin
[44:20]with the end in mind remember that what you do now is
[44:26]going to affect you in the hereafter which means that everything from
[44:30]kindness to our neighbors from giving charity to the poor from taking
[44:34]care of the orphans from being kind to our parents and obedient
[44:37]from taking care of the elderly that all of these things are
[44:44]going to help us on that final day when we receive our
[44:48]trophy on the day of judgment on the day of accounting so
[44:52]that we are not poor on that day so that we become
[44:55]rich on that day the next thing that he says he says
[45:00]what has hugged up our leftover items so now he's the Prophet
[45:02]is giving me my goals so far he's told me ask allah
[45:08]subhanaw taala after you you asked with pure intentions and honest intentions
[45:13]purify your heart make sure that you're sincere ask for success and
[45:17]fasting so make sure that you do Doha ask for success and
[45:23]fasting the month and a success in reciting the Holy Quran and
[45:26]understanding it and then understand that you have to be in the
[45:29]right mindset and the right frame of mind think of the end
[45:33]so when you're starting your fasting think of the end in mind
[45:36]right the hereafter that everything you do now is resetting everything to
[45:41]your innate closeness and affinity to Allah subhana WA Ta'ala and then
[45:46]what I want you to do he says he says I want
[45:50]you to give charity so goal number for them is give charity
[45:54]says what a sucked up o allah o allah o masakinakum' then
[45:57]he says number five what guru Kiba Rock'em give charity to your
[46:01]to your impoverished right to your poor and then dignify your elderly
[46:08]no that's number five number six he says have mercy on your
[46:11]youth what Hamas a coracle then he says what Sidorov hamakom connect
[46:16]with you near of kin and then he says and cast your
[46:19]gaze well another alayhi assalam so here notice what I've done I've
[46:23]dedicated my heart and my soul to a loss of Chanukah odda
[46:27]right I've used my my hands to give to the poor right
[46:34]I've used my tongue to UM dignify my elderly and the young
[46:43]and I've connected through using my feet to go towards my family
[46:47]members or my hands to calling them or my fingers to messaging
[46:55]them or my tongue to vmm right and then my eyesight he
[46:59]says he says so Wasilla or hamakom then he says guard your
[47:05]tongues if follow else in attack on that's number eight and then
[47:09]he says cast your gaze well the one mile ahead another layer
[47:13]of silica don't look towards Haram then he says do not listen
[47:20]to her on things Malaya Hill is the malleus Markham notice he
[47:24]couldn't leash a in Siam everything here is fasting all of the
[47:27]faculties then he says what the Hannah no other item in nacio
[47:32]to Hannah and other items and then give to the orphans show
[47:35]them kindness so that one day if you have orphans others will
[47:42]show them kindness so connect with a lying Social Care Foundation as
[47:46]an example give to those who are most in need there are
[47:49]many orphans in Iraq in Lebanon and Afghanistan in Pakistan locally who
[47:54]need your help connect with the organizations that will allow you to
[47:58]do so and then he says repent from your sins goal number
[48:04]12 what to WHO illa llah him in the know become so
[48:08]asking for repentance and then he says what far away the idea
[48:13]come back to ha if he Alcott Ursula he says raise your
[48:17]hands to him in Doha during the times of Salah saw it
[48:21]when he tells us to Doha he says specifically focus on your
[48:25]door during prayer why we might ask he says he says for
[48:30]in Naha of a lot of sad for it is the best
[48:33]of hours during the day so even though it's hours are in
[48:35]the best of hours the month of Ramadan and it's Diggy's but
[48:40]there are even more special hours the time of prayer is the
[48:44]time for drama why because Allah looks upon us with mercy he
[48:47]says younger Allah Azza WA JAL generally fear harbor rockmetteller about it
[48:52]Yug Ibrahim even a joke and if they have a whispered prayer
[48:58]and they plead with him then he will answer them will you
[49:02]let be him even a doe and he says to them I
[49:06]am at your service at your beck and call all you have
[49:11]to do is call upon me he says well you are to
[49:14]him is a say I do just like a good guest and
[49:15]a good host if a guest asks for something the host provides
[49:21]it right away he says where your play him it has a
[49:23]look and he will give them if they ask him where stage
[49:27]will happen either da the ho and he will answer them if
[49:30]they ask then he then I'm going to say well how do
[49:34]I break out of my rod the Prophet says he says I
[49:39]even asked in the unphysical meruna don't be armed alikum he says
[49:42]look you have been taken hostage you have been sabotaged by your
[49:49]sins get out of your own way he says focus on what
[49:54]Allah wants the way you're going to get back on track is
[49:59]you have to throw that heavy weight of sins off your shoulders
[50:00]he says a Johannes andthe and force akamaru nuttin be automatic on
[50:06]he says break free of the chains of your sins the fukube
[50:10]is deferred for fuku harvest fre calm he said you can break
[50:15]free out of the chains of sin by asking for forgiveness for
[50:19]fukui break break free of your sins by stefarr of the prophet
[50:24]says he says and your packs are heavy with the whole concealed
[50:30]atonement house alikum because of your sins he says so lighten that
[50:33]load how we say he says falafel for I didn't have only
[50:38]so Judy come so in this month one of our goals is
[50:40]to make sure that we prolong our prostration to Allah to have
[50:45]a longer salud just like if we were to carry a weight
[50:46]on our shoulders and we were to prostrate and the weight would
[50:51]fall right off then that is such a beautiful metaphor that the
[50:53]Prophet is giving us that's what we must do pretty straight to
[50:56]Allah and thanks in gratitude for the opportunity he's afforded us in
[51:01]this month for him to absolve us of all of our sins
[51:03]and that he says and know that Allah has promised and Allah
[51:08]Oxana be Rossetti and labelled Musolino Sajid een know that Allah has
[51:13]made a promise to you that he will not torture he will
