[0:18]respected brothers and sisters first and foremost i bid you the islamic
[0:21]greeting of may the peace and blessings of the almighty god be
[0:29]upon you all i stand before you tonight honored and privileged to
[0:34]share the next let's say half an hour insha'allah to talk about
[0:39]our tenth imam this imam was truly oppressed in his lifetime as
[0:51]he witnessed six different rulers of the abbasid the rulers were al
[0:58]muhtassim al wathuk al mutawakil al mun taser al musta'in and al
[1:04]muhtaz from these six names alone you can imagine the level of
[1:09]political instability that the imam was facing in addition to that even
[1:14]after the martyrdom of imam alhadi he was still oppressed by those
[1:20]who claimed to be his followers his lovers yet they little yet
[1:25]little do they know about his biography about his teachings about his
[1:30]sayings brothers and sisters one of the most important days of the
[1:34]year that we celebrate and is considered a holy day here in
[1:38]canada is remembrance day why because in remembrance day it's a day
[1:43]in which we retain our canadian values and honor the sacrifices of
[1:48]those who gave everything for the protection and prosperity of the land
[1:53]we are honored to call our home canada likewise we have to
[1:59]at least treat the birth and martyrdom occasions of our imams and
[2:04]islamic personalities as their members day to revive our islamic values to
[2:10]ponder think reflect about these impeccable personalities these torches of guidance these
[2:17]oceans of knowledge in sha'allah tonight before i continue my discussion i'll
[2:23]give you an overview of what we're gonna discuss first and foremost
[2:26]i will talk about the birth and the childhood of imam al
[2:30]hadi alaihi salaam once i discuss that then i'll move on to
[2:34]discuss on why he moved from medina where he was born to
[2:38]salmara then i'll shed some light on the cruelty of the main
[2:43]tyrant during the life of the imam is al muhtassim i'll explain
[2:48]to you how he was so cruel and filled with hatred to
[2:52]the i will then discuss two brief stories in which we can
[2:56]learn and derive many meaningful lessons and values then i'll conclude by
[3:02]showing you an example of the pain and the sacrifice that the
[3:08]imam and his followers had to go through to give us these
[3:12]valuable traditions and narrations and what's our responsibility today to deal with
[3:18]them but before i continue i'll ask ask you all to enlighten
[3:22]our gathering with allah muhammad according to historians was born either in
[3:36]the year 02/2012 after hijra or 02/2014 his father as we all
[3:41]know is al imam muhammad ibn ali ibn al jawad the mother
[3:45]of imam alhadi alaihi salam was called sumana al makaribiyyah so sumana
[3:50]was a moroccan she was from african descent in that alone is
[3:54]our first lesson allah subhanahu wa ta'ala surat al hijarat verse 13
[3:59]he says o people we have created you for male and female
[4:13]and we have made you into tribes and nations for you to
[4:16]know one another the most honorable of you in the eyes of
[4:20]allah is he or the one who is the most pious and
[4:23]god fearing the wanted to fight the notion that supremacy is based
[4:29]on race is based on ethnicity is based on skin color and
[4:34]one way in doing so is by marrying from different nations and
[4:38]different tribes they proved they showcased they manifested this verse that the
[4:43]main parameter is piety and piety alone now when imam al jawad
[4:48]was poisoned and martyred imam al hadi was either six to eight
[4:54]years old now imagine you have this young boy who is now
[4:57]he is the imam of his time many people wouldn't accept this
[5:03]till this very day how can a young kid be the leader
[5:06]of a nation luckily for us we have the book of guidance
[5:10]the holy quran if we reflect back in surat miriam verse 12
[5:14]what does allah says say he says and then what oh yeah
[5:25]take hold of that book with might and we gave him judgment
[5:30]we gave him wisdom we gave him prophethood while yet a child
[5:34]so in the holy quran allah tells us can a kid can
[5:38]a boy be a leader of a nation yes other examples prophet
[5:41]and prophet isa jesus peace be upon him now regardless of that
[5:48]the ruler of the time was al mu'tasim al mu'tasim had a
[5:52]plot what did he say he said imam al hadi is young
[5:55]he's six or eight years old so why don't i isolate him
[5:59]from other people bring him a teacher that teacher his responsibility is
[6:05]to plan my agenda in his mind and take away absorb all
[6:09]the love and the path of the ehlebait from his mind so
[6:13]what did the al mu'tasim do he appointed a scholar by the
[6:18]name of al janaydi this al janaydi was known to be a
[6:21]hater of the al al bayt so al janaydi and al imam
[6:25]al hadi spent some time alone after a period of time the
[6:30]companions of al janaidi once saw him so they told him hello
[6:33]janaidi what happened with that young boy to which their shocking surprise
[6:38]al janaidi said with anger do not call him a boy by
[6:42]allah he is i swear that by allah not only does this
[6:48]young boy memorize the quran from its start till its end but
[6:52]he knows the revelation and the interpretation of every single verse in
[6:56]it and i swear by allah that every time people think i
[7:00]am teaching him with my interaction i am the one who who
[7:04]is learning and it's mind boggling how this kid while facing and
[7:08]being surrounded by four walls in medina because his father father imam
[7:13]al jawad was summoned was called to baghdad so even before six
[7:17]years old imam al jawad was separated from al hadi so it
[7:21]was shocking and believe it or not al juhnadi transformed from being
[7:25]a hater to a follower of the ahlul bayt through the blessing
[7:29]of interacting with al imam al hadi alaihi salaam brothers and sisters
[7:33]this is no surprise why because if you reflect and look back
[7:36]at the saying of the grandfather of imam al hadi prophet muhammad
[7:40]when he says when he puts in one scale the holy quran
[7:45]and the ahlul bayt then the ahlul bayt are the manifestation of
[7:49]the quran they are the walking quran they are the quran in
[7:52]action so it was no surprise that imam al hadi knew the
[7:54]quran inside out now let us move on to the departure of
[8:00]imam al hadi to samarah now as i said imam al hadi
[8:04]was born in medina so he grew up until the age of
[8:07]about 20 to 22 he was in medina he was teaching in
[8:11]the mosque of the holy prophet peace be upon him it was
[8:14]no surprise that imam al hadi was surrounded by lovers was surrounded
[8:19]by followers who would come from everywhere to have the honor the
[8:23]privilege of listening to the wisdom and gaining access to the knowledge
[8:27]of imam al now things changed when in the time of al
[8:32]mutawakil during mutawakil's time there was the governor of medina this governor
[8:38]what did he do he started sending fabricated lies letters to al
[8:44]mutawakil they're obviously out of truth what did he say in these
[8:48]letters he told mutawakil listen mutawakil if you wanna keep control of
[8:52]makkah and medina you have to take imam al hadi out of
[8:55]there because imam al hadi has so much popularity and he is
[9:00]preparing for an uprising for a revolution imam al hadi also sent
[9:05]a letter to al mutawakil explaining to him that this was a
[9:09]lie and it was the complete opposite this governor was injust and
[9:13]he was inflicting the people with injustice with evil mutawakil as any
[9:19]tyrant when it's threatened with his throne he will take anything he
[9:24]will do any action to protect it so he used his brain
[9:28]he said okay he sent 300 soldiers from his base in samarah
[9:33]all the way to medina led by a man named yahayabni harthema
[9:38]and he gave him a letter that letter was wrapped with kindness
[9:42]was wrapped with love but deep within it was nothing but evil
[9:46]and deception in that letter al mutawakil told imam al hadi oh
[9:51]imam this isn't just governor i isolated him but i miss you
[9:56]i yearn to meet you please join me and come live by
[10:00]my side in samarra and that is why imam al hadi was
[10:04]summoned or was called to samarra now i ask you when a
[10:08]ruler when a king invites a guest over you would expect an
[10:14]official ceremony you would expect celebrations in the streets you would expect
[10:18]the guest to be welcomed in the guest house in the palace
[10:21]guess what happened not only was imam al hadhi alaihi salam welcomed
[10:25]at night so no one can see him he was left for
[10:30]three nights or three full days where in a place called khan
[10:33]al salih this place pretty much was a place for the abandoned
[10:38]for the homeless for those who had no place to go it
[10:42]was dirty and this cruel ruler thought that by doing so he
[10:46]arrogantly can't belittle the imam he doesn't know that allah made a
[10:52]promise to remove all impurity from the and perfect them with extensive
[10:58]purification was that it no samarra at that time was the military
[11:10]base of the abbasids it was filled with soldiers imagine after this
[11:14]imam al hadi was put into house imprisonment for most of his
[11:18]life was that it no in that house imprisonment imprisonment he was
[11:23]put under surveillance extreme monitoring every single move he does he was
[11:27]monitored his house was broken into on multiple occasions just for the
[11:33]sake of bothering the imam so in all of this the imam
[11:36]was in the prison of salmara in the prison of his house
[11:40]in the prison of surveillance three prisons i ask you who in
[11:44]the world is able to be productive is able to help humanity
[11:49]is able to leave a legacy under such circumstance but imam al
[11:53]hadi through his mannerism through his piety through his wisdom found ways
[11:58]allah ultimately as he says in surat al anam allah is the
[12:08]most knowing of where he places his message and there's no better
[12:12]place to place the message of allah than with the it is
[12:18]impossible for me to continue my discussion without giving you an example
[12:24]of the cruelty of the main ruler during the time of imam
[12:28]al hadi which is al mutawakil al abbasi this mutawakil was one
[12:33]of the most evil tyrants to ever step foot on this world
[12:37]he hated anything and everything to do with the al bayt and
[12:43]he expressed that both in words and in action during that time
[12:50]the abbasid emperor empire if you want to call it wasn't facing
[12:55]any stability because the turks were severely involved yet despite all this
[13:00]this mutawakil had time to shift his attention to one thing and
[13:04]one thing only you know what that was to stop people from
[13:07]visiting the grave of imam hussein alaihi salam to try and destroy
[13:11]it i've read that some historians say over a dozen times he
[13:16]attempted to demolish the grave of imam hussain through his time he
[13:21]first imposed monetary sanctions you wanna visit imam hussain pay 100 dinars
[13:26]he saw people still coming you know what pay a thousand he
[13:30]saw people still coming you know what i'll cut your hand if
[13:33]you wanna visit imam hussein my goodness people are still visiting you
[13:36]know what you don't have hands i'll cut your feet people are
[13:40]still visiting so what did mutuakil do he said okay i'm gonna
[13:44]try and drown this grave so he ordered instructed for the water
[13:49]of the euphrates nahr al furah to be diverted to the grave
[13:53]of imam hussain guess what happened the water would come would come
[13:57]from the euphrates to the grave of imam hussein but as soon
[14:00]as it reaches the grave it circulates around the grave and it
[14:04]wouldn't pass and cover the grave hence if you hear the phrase
[14:09]al ha'ar al husseini it's derived from this al ha'ar comes from
[14:13]highra puzzlement the water was puzzled the water wasn't doing what water
[14:18]naturally does and it was circulating the grave of imam hussein imagine
[14:24]imam hussain at that time has been dead for over a century
[14:28]yet this tyrant still wants to fight the message of imam hussain
[14:31]why i tell you why listen brothers and sisters every tyrant who
[14:36]stepped foot and tried to fight imam hussein he fought fought him
[14:39]for this main reason despite imam hussein departing this world as a
[14:44]physical body every time someone remembers him every time someone is honored
[14:51]to step foot to the grave the shrine of imam hussain alaihi
[14:54]salaam he hears immortal words echoing from that grave words like we
[15:04]will not allow and accept for humiliation we will never bear oppression
[15:12]any soul that thinks about imam hussain is automatically charged with the
[15:18]willpower to stand against injustice to fight for the truth to oppose
[15:23]oppression and to say no and in that was a challenge to
[15:28]every single tyrant who was cruel and evil and you find throughout
[15:33]history all these tyrants tried to demolish and destroy the grave of
[15:37]mohammed hussain and what happened today 2017 the grave of mohammed hussain
[15:42]is drowned flooded not by water by people millions upon millions coming
[15:47]from all over the world trying to pay their respect and allegiance
[15:50]to imam hussain and where are those tyrants where's their palaces who
[15:54]remembers them who knows where they buried absolutely nothing they want to
[16:07]extinguish the light of allah with their mats but allah will perfect
[16:11]his lights even if the disbelievers dislike it now i will move
[16:16]on to my two stories but before doing so i ask you
[16:20]for a loud muhammad wa'alee muhammad story number one so there was
[16:27]a man a nomad or a wanderer from kufa he came from
[16:32]kufa to samarra to visit imam al hadi at that time imam
[16:37]al hadi wasn't in samarra he was in a nearby village so
[16:41]this man from kufa followed him and found him as he approached
[16:45]him he greeted him and then he said oh imam i am
[16:48]one of your sins most sincere followers but i am in severe
[16:52]debt and there's no one that can help me but you imam
[16:56]at that time obviously he felt sorry for him but that at
[16:59]that specific time imam didn't have the financial means to help him
[17:04]but did that stop him from helping this man absolutely not look
[17:09]at the beauty the imam told this man he said listen i
[17:12]will help you but you promise me you follow my exact steps
[17:16]the man agreed so imam al hadi gave him a writing in
[17:21]that writing it says that imam al hadi owes this man a
[17:25]big sum of money he gave the man and he told him
[17:28]listen tomorrow you come to samarrah at this time at this place
[17:32]and you ask for my money for your money and insist on
[17:35]me be hard be cruel and ask for that money the man
[17:41]agreed next day at the set time and place and location the
[17:46]man came imam aladdai at that time was surrounded by who by
[17:50]officials from al mutawakil's government so the man asked for his money
[17:56]he was harsh where's my money imam al hadi with all respect
[18:00]with all mannerism he told him listen i am really sorry i
[18:03]don't have the money now just give me three nights or three
[18:05]days and i'll give you the money after the meeting was over
[18:10]mutawakil was told about this incident obviously he felt really embarrassed so
[18:14]he instructed for 30,000 dinars to be given to imam al hadi
[18:19]once the third day was done this man came to imam al
[18:22]hadi imam al hadi didn't even touch the money he gave him
[18:26]all of the money the man was in shock he said oh
[18:30]son of the holy prophet i swear by allah only a third
[18:33]of this was enough for me to pay my debts imam told
[18:35]him no take all of this money pay your debt and spend
[18:39]the rest on your family what's the lesson we learned from this
[18:43]story look at how far the imam went to help another human
[18:49]being at this day and age so many of us are blessed
[18:53]with every single skill set necessary to help another believer help another
[18:59]human being but we out of arrogance out of laziness we close
[19:03]the door to that blessing and say you know what i'm sorry
[19:07]i can't help you forgetting that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala instructs us
[19:13]that one of the ways in which we express thankfulness to him
[19:16]is by helping others imam ali alaihi salam says one of the
[19:22]blessings of allah upon you is when people are in need of
[19:25]you when someone prays to allah for a need and you are
[19:29]the chosen one to help that person you are interceding allah chooses
[19:32]you out of all people to help that person shouldn't you be
[19:36]the one honored shouldn't it be a privilege shouldn't you be competing
[19:39]to helping one another so this story shows us how imam al
[19:43]hadi was instructing us to help one another story number two one
[19:49]of the closest companions of imam al was by the name of
[19:53]abu hashim al jafari this abu hashim also one day wanted to
[19:58]approach the imam he was also going in a severe need neediness
[20:02]of money it was very visible on his face he was sad
[20:05]he was depressed so imam alaihi salam saw saw him and he
[20:09]wanted to comfort him he didn't allow abu hashem to speak imam
[20:15]alaihi salam spoke first what did he say imam alaihi salam said
[20:19]you hashem which of the blessings of the favor of allah upon
[20:27]you abu hashem would you like to thank him for and then
[20:30]he goes on to list some of the blessings of allah he
[20:37]has bestowed upon you faith and through that he prevented you your
[20:42]body from the hellfire and he has blessed you with health to
[20:50]assist you aid you in obedience in worship and he has blessed
[20:58]you with contentment so you refrain from complaining and asking all the
[21:02]time and then he concluded aba hashem i thought i started my
[21:19]my my conversation with you in this manner because i thought that
[21:23]you'd be complaining to me about the one who gave you all
[21:27]of these blessings so i wanted to remind you and then he
[21:30]instructed 100 dinars for him there's an abundance of of of lessons
[21:36]we can learn but i'll share two of them one this companion
[21:42]was a close companion of the imam of a living imam yet
[21:46]still this companion sometimes just like us normal human beings life gets
[21:51]the best out of us especially when we're facing a problem hardship
[21:54]tribulation so when we see a brother when we see a sister
[21:57]going through hardship don't just refrain from talking to them comfort them
[22:02]imam al hadi was manifesting and verily remind for the reminder benefits
[22:08]the believers he was beautifully giving comfort to this man abu hashem
[22:13]through also manifesting another verse if you want to count the blessings
[22:20]of allah will not be able to number them so lesson number
[22:24]two us humans a lot of times or actually all the time
[22:28]we are blessed with so many blessings yet if we have one
[22:32]tiny hardship we shift our attention from all of these blessings and
[22:36]look at that small hardship as if we have not been blessed
[22:40]with anything on top of that even if something we want so
[22:44]badly is not fulfilled allah tells us there might be goodness in
[22:48]it perhaps you hate a thing and it's good for you don't
[22:54]we read in dua al iftita that beautiful dua that we recite
[22:57]in ramadan but when your response is delayed oh allah i out
[23:11]of my ignorance would blame you although perhaps in that delay of
[23:15]my need there might be goodness in me so this is also
[23:20]another story that we can learn to be thankful to allah for
[23:23]all his blessings before i give you my closing remarks i want
[23:27]to showcase to you in action how much sacrifice the companions and
[23:35]the imams had to go through so these sayings these traditions these
[23:40]hadiths these legacies are packed in books that we don't even care
[23:44]about number one one of the companions of imam was called the
[23:48]yaqub ibn ishaqaw ibn sikhid he was an expert in linguistics in
[23:53]arabic grammar in poetry asked for this expert to be the teacher
[24:00]of his two sons out of arrogance he had the audacity to
[24:07]ask ibn sakit once he told him ibn sakit who is better
[24:11]hassan and hussein the grandsons of of the holy prophet or my
[24:15]two sons imagine ibn sikhit gave him a beautiful response that history
[24:22]remembers until this very day but he paid a very big price
[24:25]for it he told him who are your sons to be compared
[24:30]with the of the holy prophet hassan al hussein with the masters
[24:37]of the youth of paradise ambar the servant of imam ali is
[24:41]better than your sons and you on top now imagine when you
[24:46]say this word to a tyrant expect nothing but punishment and he
[24:49]was punished his tongue was cut after this and that's how he
[24:53]died our imam yamal hadi do you know that almost every single
[24:58]week if not every single night at night usually his house was
[25:03]broken into they would instill fabricated lies that he is gonna prepare
[25:08]for revolution he has money and almost every single night when you
[25:13]were trying to get some peace his house is broken into once
[25:17]a man by the name of saeed he was sent by mutawakil
[25:21]he came at night midnight he took a ladder climbed the roof
[25:25]of imam then he was struck by the darkness of the night
[25:28]he didn't know where to go it was so dark he heard
[25:31]someone saying oh saeed wait wait imam al hadi imam al hadi
[25:36]told him wait don't move until i get you a candle so
[25:39]he can see your way imagine someone's breaking into your house but
[25:44]this is the manners of the imams that's where they're unique they
[25:47]broke into his house what did they see imam as always facing
[25:51]the qabla nothing between him and the ground but sand and pebbles
[25:55]what's on his side his weapons what are his weapons the quran
[25:58]and dua'as that's all what he had in this world and they
[26:03]say even on a weekly basis he was asked to be reported
[26:07]to a mituakil so imam was when he's walking in the streets
[26:11]of the market he would be looking down you know why because
[26:14]he's afraid he'll make eye contact with the people and the the
[26:17]guards would think that he knows them and they're his followers and
[26:20]they would be they would be punished imagine all of these sacrifices
[26:25]all of these struggles to pass on these torches of guidance these
[26:31]books these narrations these sayings that are left for no one to
[26:34]care about brothers and sisters today when when we say our message
[26:39]our legacy our traditions the followers of the halbei these mess the
[26:43]this message is covered with blood with sweat with sacrifice it is
[26:47]it's not a joke and allah blessed us in this day and
[26:50]age and especially in this side of the world with the ultimate
[26:54]freedom in our electronic gadget we can change the reality that we
[27:00]live in we can fight injustice we can fight for the truth
[27:05]imam al hania wants us today to not just read but manifest
[27:11]live these traditions in our actions bring goodness to ourselves our family
[27:16]our community this is what he wants us to do let's spend
[27:20]some time to honor their legacies just like we do in ibn
[27:24]s' day to honor the sacrifice of soldiers let's honor the sacrifices
[27:27]of the true heroes of our religion at least remember them in
[27:31]action i conclude by few words from which was narrated by imam
[27:40]which i advise all of you to read it's beautiful it explains
[27:44]the role and the position of imams i sincerely thank you all
[28:12]for listening it was my pleasure and privilege and until next time
[28:16]muhammad
