[0:10]Allah.
[0:28]A shadow.
[1:06]for fellow.
[1:25]Allahbar Allahbar illu.
[2:29]May Allah subh reward you all for coming in this very uh
[2:35]I don't want to say awful weather Challenging weather.
[2:55]I seek refuge in Allah, the all hearing, the all knowing, from
[3:00]the accursed Satan.
[3:00]In the name of Allah, the most merciful, the most compassionate.
[3:07]All praise is due to Allah.
[3:08]The first before creation and life, and the last after the annihilation
[3:12]of all things.
[3:13]He is the all- knowing who does not forget those who do
[3:18]remember him, does not diminish the war the reward of those who
[3:21]thank him, does not disappoint those who call upon him, and does
[3:27]not sever the hope of those who place their trust in him.
[3:30]I bear witness that there is no deity but God alone without
[3:35]a partner.
[3:35]And I bear witness that Muhammad sallallah.aii wasallam is his servant and
[3:42]his messenger.
[3:41]He sent him with guidance and truth, the religion of truth to
[3:48]make it prevail over all things.
[3:48]Oh Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and
[3:55]bless the Muhammad and the family of Muhammad and have mercy on
[3:57]Muhammad and the family of Muhammad in the best way.
[4:00]You have sent blessings, bestowed blessings and shown mercy upon Abraham and
[4:05]the family of Abraham.
[4:05]Indeed, you are praiseworthy, glorious, and you do what you will.
[4:10]Servants of Allah, I advise you and myself to be mindful of
[4:14]Allah the Almighty, to follow his commands and to avoid his prohibitions.
[4:22]In about 12 days around January 1st, we're going to be witnessing
[4:29]the beginning of the three sacred months starting with Rajab, the month
[4:34]of Rajab.
[4:35]Following that will be the month of Shaaban and then we will
[4:40]have the blessed and sacred month of Ramadan.
[4:42]These three months are very sacred and very important in the Islamic
[4:51]calendar.
[4:48]Not because they mark a worldly event, but because they have a
[4:55]lot of spiritual significance.
[4:56]And it is important for all the believers who care about their
[5:03]spirituality, who care about their afterworldly life and their worldly life to
[5:08]focus on these three months throughout the year.
[5:11]So the whole of the year that you have the nine months
[5:16]should be a preparation for these three months.
[5:19]Basically the month of Ramadan should be the culmination of your spiritual
[5:25]journey throughout the year.
[5:25]Everything you gain, you train yourself is so that you can excel
[5:33]and succeed in the month of Ramadan.
[5:34]Throughout the year, usually we don't have a lot of rigorous spiritual
[5:40]programs.
[5:41]We don't focus on ourselves.
[5:42]But suddenly when the month of Ramadan comes, we put all our
[5:48]energy and efforts to suddenly become spiritual individuals.
[5:51]So we neglect ourselves throughout the year.
[5:55]So that when Ramadan comes, we try to re-energize ourselves and to
[5:58]benefit from it as much as we can, which is not a
[6:02]bad thing.
[6:00]Allah subhanaa tala invited everybody in the month of Ramadan to come
[6:05]and take advantage of it.
[6:06]Whether you're a sinner, you're a good individual, you're a very spiritual
[6:10]individual, whatever you are.
[6:10]All of us are the guests of Allah subhana tala.
[6:15]That's from God's side.
[6:16]The other side is from our side.
[6:19]How much do I prepare myself for this month?
[6:22]How much do I take advantage of that month and that feast
[6:28]that Allah subhana t has prepared for myself?
[6:30]If I haven't taken care of myself throughout the year and suddenly
[6:33]I was invited to someone's house to a big event or a
[6:36]big feast, I have cholesterol issues, I have some other diseases and
[6:42]illnesses in my body.
[6:43]When I go to the feast, I can't enjoy everything that's on
[6:47]the table.
[6:48]I can't eat this.
[6:48]I can't eat that.
[6:50]I can't benefit from this.
[6:51]There's activities over there.
[6:51]For example, I can't move my body.
[6:53]I can't because I haven't been taking care of myself.
[6:57]So Allah subhana t puts the feast out there.
[7:00]He says look this is the table.
[7:02]Take anything you want from it.
[7:03]The limitation comes from ourselves.
[7:06]If throughout the year I have not focused on strengthening my spirit
[7:11]spirituality.
[7:12]If I am unable to connect with my own soul inside.
[7:17]If I'm too busy with my mind, I'm unable to settle in
[7:23]quietness because I've been distracted throughout the whole year and I've been
[7:27]doing things that have a negative effect on my internal being and
[7:30]internal state.
[7:31]When the month of Ramadan comes, I can't benefit from it the
[7:35]way that I should be benefiting.
[7:36]I can't take from it much.
[7:38]Whereas if I took care of myself and I began practicing and
[7:43]training myself throughout the year on doing spiritual programs, focusing on fixing
[7:49]my internal state, when the month of Ramadan comes, the benefit that
[7:54]I get from it is going to be immense, way more than
[7:59]the benefit would uh uh I would get if I had not
[8:00]taken care of myself throughout the year.
[8:02]So we have to change our mentality first.
[8:05]And I'm going to focus in the second sermon on what we
[8:09]can do to take advantage of this month now that it's being
[8:12]uh uh approaching us.
[8:15]Right before doing that in this first sermon, I won't take much
[8:18]of your time, but I want to give a few hadith just
[8:22]about the greatness of the month of Rajab and the month of
[8:25]Shabbat.
[8:26]Because before you go into anything, you have to conceptualize it.
[8:30]You have to imagine it.
[8:32]You have to have a correct idea of it.
[8:35]Right?
[8:36]before you go to event an event there's a lot of money
[8:37]and time and energy put into advertising right it might be a
[8:43]small event but when the advertising is so good it makes you
[8:46]conceptualize it so that you can prepare yourself to go there right
[8:48]so you need to know what raj is you need to know
[8:51]what shaban is you have to imagine it you have to conceptualize
[8:53]it before the month comes so that you know how to revere
[8:59]it and how to be uh using your correct conduct in that
[9:01]month imagine you want to go to someone's house someone a very
[9:06]important figure like let's say a king or uh some notable scholar
[9:10]and your parents they tell you I'm going to take you to
[9:14]this place but know that this person is a very important individual
[9:16]you have to dress properly you can't play around you have to
[9:19]behave don't speak when it's not your turn and so on and
[9:23]so forth right a lot of important events before you go there's
[9:26]a certain etiquette that you have to maintain when you go to
[9:31]that event but you need to know that this is an important
[9:32]event for you to know how to behave in that event.
[9:36]Right?
[9:37]So before comes, it's very important for us to read the hadiths
[9:40]that talk to us about this month.
[9:42]What is this month?
[9:42]Why is it important?
[9:45]How important is it?
[9:45]I'll be sharing a few hadith about that and then we'll move
[9:51]on to what we can do during this month.
[10:03]There's a hadith from the prophet sallallahu alaihi wasallam where he says
[10:07]indeed Rajab is the great month of Allah.
[10:12]No month rivals it in sanctity and virtue.
[10:16]Fighting the disbelievers in it is forbidden.
[10:20]It's so sacred that even fighting in it has been forbidden.
[10:25]He says behold Rajab is the month of Allah.
[10:28]Shaan is my month and Ramadan is the month of my community.
[10:34]So who is this month connected to?
[10:38]It's connected to Allah subhanaa.
[10:40]This is God's month, the month of Rajab.
[10:42]Whoever fasts one day in Rajab becomes deserving of the greatest pleasure
[10:49]of Allah.
[10:48]Allah's wrath is kept far from him and one of the gates
[10:54]of the fire is closed to him.
[10:55]One day of fasting keeps the wrath of Allah subhana wa ta'ala
[10:58]away from you.
[11:01]In another hadith, Im Musafam says, "Whoever fasts one day in Rajab
[11:05]will be kept at a distance from the fire equal to a
[11:11]year's journey." If you journey, if you walk from one place for
[11:14]one year, that distance is how far you're going to be kept
[11:20]away from hellfire.
[11:19]If you fast one day and whoever fasts three days of this
[11:25]month, paradise becomes obligatory to this individual.
[11:30]In another hadith, Imam tells us that the prophet sallallah.aii used to
[11:37]say when Rajab used to come, he would tell the people that
[11:41]Rajab is the month of seeking forgiveness for my community.
[11:43]So the theme of Rajab is seeking forgiveness.
[11:47]A lot of the actions that we have that you do in
[11:52]the month are related to doingar seeking forgiveness.
[11:54]In this month is the month of purification.
[11:57]It purifies you.
[11:59]If you want to be someone that has no sins at all,
[12:01]this is the month to take advantage of because the amount of
[12:06]forgiveness that comes in this month does not equal any other month.
[12:08]It's the month of forgiveness for my community.
[12:12]The prophet says so increase in it your seeking of forgiveness for
[12:16]he is all forgiving all merciful Rajab is called als that's one
[12:22]of the names that is given to it because mercy is poured
[12:26]abundantly upon my community in it therefore say frequently I seek forgiveness
[12:34]from Allah and ask him for her repentance so it is a
[12:39]month that's connected to Allah this is God's month.
[12:41]That's enough for us to realize the sanctity and its importance.
[12:46]If you attribute a house to somebody important, you rever that house,
[12:50]right?
[12:51]If you try to buy a house and they say, "Oh, this
[12:52]is this was the house of a certain artist or a certain
[12:58]celebrity, people will give that house so much value and it'll raise
[13:00]in value and people want to buy it and preserve it and
[13:05]want to own it." This month is attributed to Allah subhana wa
[13:07]tala.
[13:08]So when it enters make sure you understand you are entering the
[13:10]month of God.
[13:13]So revere it maintain the sanctity and ask for forgiveness in this
[13:17]month.
[13:28]Muhammadu.
[13:51]I praise God.
[13:53]Yet no speaker can articulate his praise.
[13:57]No reckoner can count his favors, and the most diligent cannot give
[14:01]him his due.
[14:02]Soaring thoughts cannot reach him, and deep minds cannot fathom him.
[14:08]He cannot be described, for he is beyond the limits of the
[14:13]immarated boundaries, existing depictions, tallied times, and protracted lifespans.
[14:17]I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone with
[14:21]no partner.
[14:23]And I bear witness that Muhammad is a servant and his messenger.
[14:26]Oh God, send your blessings upon Muhammad, the seal of the prophets
[14:29]and the master of the messengers.
[14:31]And send your blessings, oh Lord, upon Ali, the commander of the
[14:35]faithful, and upon Fatimat Zahar, the lady of the woman of the
[14:40]worlds, and upon Al Hassan and Al Hussein, the masters of the
[14:43]youth of paradise.
[14:45]Oh Allah, send your blessings upon the imams of the Muslims Hussein
[14:51]Ali Muhammad Mali Musuhammed Ali Ali Muhammad Al Hassni and the awaited
[14:59]ali may Allah hasten his reappearance and ease his emergence.
[15:10]As I was mentioning in the firstbah it's very important for us
[15:17]before entering any place to conceptualize it to understand it to know
[15:21]what we're going into right you read about something before you go
[15:25]into it before you read a book they have on the back
[15:30]cover a synopsis of that book right so just to help you
[15:32]imagine what this is so it's important for you before going into
[15:35]something to understand what it is and once you do that pushes
[15:41]you and motivates you to do that thing.
[15:44]Going back to the first point, if you are going to participate
[15:49]in a big event and usually I give an example like the
[15:53]marathon, right?
[15:54]We're aware of the marathon.
[15:57]Maybe maybe most of us have not part, you know, partaken in
[15:59]a marathon, but at least we can understand what it is.
[16:03]Maybe we've seen it on a movie.
[16:05]We've known about it.
[16:05]We've talked about it in school.
[16:09]But a marathon requires a lot of exercise or those competitions.
[16:12]What are they called?
[16:13]The ninja ones.
[16:14]There's the one here in the US where you go and you
[16:16]start going on obstacles and stuff like that to show your endurance,
[16:21]right?
[16:21]How much do you train for that?
[16:23]You train for many months if not a year or more, right?
[16:25]Why?
[16:26]Because once the event comes, you want to be prepared for it.
[16:30]You don't want to be the first one who starts the first
[16:34]challenge and you fail.
[16:35]or in a marathon that's supposed to go for let's say two
[16:39]three hours you fail in the fast the first 10 minutes you
[16:42]think to yourself why I have legs I have a body I
[16:46]ate so I have energy and I should be able to do
[16:51]this right but you start running and you realize like your heart
[16:53]is is beginning to go up up and you feel it's going
[16:57]to come out of your mouth you can't handle anymore right why
[17:00]is that well because you need to train yourself you can't just
[17:05]overnight might become a physical physically fit individual, right?
[17:08]You need to practice, you need to train, you need to exercise.
[17:12]The same thing is true for spirituality.
[17:15]You cannot become a spiritual individual overnight.
[17:20]Yes, maybe if God creates a miracle for you, well, turning into
[17:26]that.
[17:27]Or if you're physically wanting to become fit overnight, maybe you become,
[17:32]you know, like Spider-Man or something.
[17:34]a spider bites you, you're the Hulk or whatever it is.
[17:36]That's almost the only way that you could become that overnight.
[17:39]Otherwise, everything takes the natural course in this world.
[17:44]And Islam is a religion that believes in the natural course of
[17:47]things.
[17:48]Yes, it believes in miracles, too, but it doesn't want people to
[17:52]rely on miracles.
[17:54]Allah wants people to take the natural course of things.
[17:56]And we see this throughout the Islamic discourse.
[17:59]The Quran teaching teaches us this.
[18:01]A hadith from the prophet teach us this.
[18:04]It does not want us to believe in a religion that relies
[18:07]solely upon miracles.
[18:09]Allah wants us to develop naturally.
[18:12]He wants to have a healthy society for human beings.
[18:16]One of those thing that we have to do is to work
[18:18]on our spirituality.
[18:20]So when the month of Ramadan comes, as I was saying, it's
[18:22]the feast that Allah puts with all types of meals up there.
[18:29]Anything you can fathom you can go and you take from.
[18:31]But everybody takes according to their own capacity and what they can
[18:38]handle.
[18:36]How do you determine the capacity?
[18:40]It is determined based on what you do throughout that year.
[18:44]So once Ramadan finishes of LA last year, my goal should be
[18:48]that by the next Ramadan, I'm going to be able to do
[18:52]things that I was not able to do in this past month.
[18:55]You realize your spiritual weakness in that month.
[18:57]Was I able to read proper Quran or no?
[19:00]If I wasn't able, why?
[19:02]When I was reading, was I contemplating or was I just reading?
[19:05]If I wasn't contemplating, maybe I need to work on my contemplation.
[19:09]Maybe I'm a person who doesn't have quietness in my mind, in
[19:14]my soul.
[19:13]When I read, I'm distracted with so many things.
[19:16]I can read the Quran, but I can't contemplate over it.
[19:21]Okay?
[19:19]So, I have to work on my contemplation.
[19:22]I want to get up and pray an extra unit of prayer
[19:25]to thank Allah subhana wa tala and gain the reward of that
[19:29]prayer but I find myself too lazy.
[19:31]I can't do it.
[19:35]I'm always resisting.
[19:32]But I'm so good on you know when it comes to playing
[19:38]a game for example or doing something else working on my car
[19:41]whatever it is I don't find myself resisting.
[19:43]I get up and I easily do that.
[19:46]But how come when it comes to prayer I find myself so
[19:50]sluggish and it's so challenging for me to get up and do
[19:52]two raas of prayers which is physically not very demanding time wise
[19:57]doesn't take that much yet we find it so difficult why because
[20:03]spiritually we're dead inside we have a problem if a person is
[20:07]spiritual they will automatically be directed and attracted to prayers more than
[20:12]they would be attracted to other things it becomes a natural inclination
[20:16]Like someone who is very physically fit, they don't find a problem
[20:21]in getting up and doing tasks.
[20:22]In fact, they enjoy getting up and moving their body.
[20:26]Think this is good for me.
[20:27]They understand it.
[20:26]Why?
[20:27]Because they're healthy.
[20:29]A person who is physically unhealthy, any little task you ask them
[20:33]to do, you find it very challenging and very difficult.
[20:35]Same thing with spirituality.
[20:38]If you find this problem in yourself, work on that throughout the
[20:42]year because the month of Ramadan is not supposed to be the
[20:46]month that's building your spirituality from the beginning.
[20:49]It's supposed to be the one where you're already spiritual and you're
[20:53]benefiting from that month.
[20:54]When there's on the night of decree, Allah says or the the
[20:59]prophet tells us to pray a 100 units of prayers.
[21:02]This 100 units should be very easy for you.
[21:05]It shouldn't be the only time in your life that you do
[21:07]extra prayers so that on that night by the time you finish
[21:10]the second one and third one you're just moving up and down
[21:12]and you're thinking to yourself, you know, I I need to finish
[21:14]this.
[21:15]I need to finish this.
[21:17]No, that 100 units of prayer should be very natural and smooth
[21:20]for you.
[21:21]You should be benefiting from it.
[21:22]Every unit is giving you more and more and more spirituality.
[21:25]When you're reading a supplication in the month of Ramadan, you're not
[21:30]thinking when is this dua going to finish.
[21:33]You're thinking, "Wow, this is such a beautiful dua.
[21:36]I can contemplate on the meaning.
[21:37]I can think about this.
[21:38]I can cry.
[21:39]I can attach myself to Allah subhanaa tala.
[21:41]I can get close to him." Why?
[21:43]Because the throughout the year I built a relationship with Allah.
[21:47]I've been speaking to God.
[21:48]I've been communicating with God.
[21:49]God has become my friend in my life.
[21:51]And now in this special month of Ramadan, I am able to
[21:57]deeply connect with him in a very, very close fashion.
[21:59]Not that I'm trying to build that connection that month.
[22:02]Of course, if we haven't done that, we should try to build
[22:04]that connection that month, but I'm saying that we have to prepare
[22:07]ourselves and shaban are very good opportunities.
[22:11]If you've missed the whole year, don't miss these two months.
[22:15]That's why fasting in it is recommended.
[22:18]You want to start fasting in Ramadan the first day, second day,
[22:22]third day are so difficult for you.
[22:24]All your addictions you're stopping your diet you're changing the time of
[22:29]your food is changing you find it very challenging and difficult right
[22:33]so instead of benefiting from the first days of the month which
[22:36]are very important days there are so many things to do on
[22:40]the first night on the first day but we don't do them
[22:42]because we're so tired we're trying just to tolerate the fasting but
[22:46]if you were someone who was fasting throughout the year knowing that
[22:50]the prophet told us this every single month to fast at least
[22:56]three days of those months, specific days.
[22:58]If you're used to that or you've trained yourself in and Shabban
[23:02]to fast at least one day, it broke the old habit of
[23:07]not fasting.
[23:06]It kind of got you into the mood already so that when
[23:10]Ramadan comes, oh, I already fasted last week.
[23:12]I know how it feels.
[23:12]It's not something new.
[23:14]It's not shocking my system.
[23:16]It's not shocking my body.
[23:16]So, take advantage of the month of the month of Shabban.
[23:22]read the about it.
[23:23]We have wonderful books that have been translated.
[23:25]A very important book that every household should have is the keys
[23:32]to heaven or heavens or paradise.
[23:34]It's been translated a good translation is by brother Ali who translated
[23:39]the Quran as well.
[23:42]It's fully translated two volumes I believe.
[23:45]all the prayer supplications divided in months, you know, from Rajab, Shabban,
[23:48]Ramadan and so on and so forth.
[23:52]You read it and you benefit from it.
[23:54]Now you open the book and you find okay there's a lot
[23:55]of things over here.
[23:56]What do I do?
[23:58]Do I have to do all of them?
[23:59]Because some people when they look at all these hadith they say
[24:01]this is overwhelming and if you don't do this you feel guilty.
[24:03]I'm missing out on this.
[24:06]So they end up doing so much they break themselves.
[24:08]It's too much.
[24:09]It's like someone who watches all these videos about working out and
[24:12]stuff like that, then goes to the gym and and you know,
[24:14]he doesn't have any practice and then they find themselves they can't
[24:17]do any of this so they lose hope, right?
[24:19]No.
[24:20]Read the hadith and be wary of your spiritual state.
[24:23]Be realistic with yourself.
[24:27]If you're only able to do asking repentance from Allah 70 times
[24:30]a day, like saying 70, only do that because in another hadith
[24:35]the prophet said to do it a thousand times a day.
[24:36]Don't pick the thousand if you know you can't do it.
[24:40]Pick the 70.
[24:42]Because the general rule that the imams have given us when it
[24:44]comes to spiritual things, and this is a rule for everything in
[24:46]life, if you do a little that's consistent, it's better than doing
[24:53]a lot that's inconsistent.
[24:54]Consistency is key and essential to success in life and the afterlife.
[24:59]So you might think it's only 70 but 70 consistent a consistent
[25:05]70 is better than a thousand that's done only once or twice
[25:09]or three times.
[25:09]Consistency is very important.
[25:12]So when you look at the choose okay I'm going to do
[25:17]one invocation maybe I'll do seven times a day.
[25:19]Choose one supplication one prayer one dua.
[25:21]Make it short as well.
[25:23]Say I'm going to read this dua.
[25:25]I'm going to connect myself to it and I'm going to think
[25:27]and contemplate over it.
[25:28]Choose a specific prayer, an a musta prayer, something in addition to
[25:35]your waj.
[25:34]Do two units of prayers every single day.
[25:37]Just add it to your program.
[25:38]Get yourself to do something more than the obligatory.
[25:43]Slowly you'll find yourself building a connection to spirituality and to Allah
[25:49]subhana wa ta'ala.
[25:51]And Allah in one of the hadith that the prophet tells us,
[25:55]Allah tells us that if you get close to Allah one step,
[25:59]this is the meaning of the hadith, Allah will get to you
[26:02]closer a thousand steps.
[26:04]So you move one step, Allah moves a thousand in return.
[26:07]Keep that in mind.
[26:08]You might do a little bit as you move towards Allah subhana
[26:11]t and get close to him, Allah will become closer and closer
[26:14]to you as well.
[26:16]So it's very important for us to make this schedule before the
[26:18]month starts before.
[26:20]Look at what's out there.
[26:22]Make a spiritual program for yourself every single day.
[26:26]This is the bare minimum that I'm going to be doing.
[26:27]Even if it's one act more than what you're doing every single
[26:32]day, that's an improvement.
[26:32]Say you can't do much.
[26:35]You have work.
[26:35]You have a lot of obligations and duties.
[26:36]Just add one thing.
[26:39]That one thing makes your program better than what it used to
[26:42]be in the past.
[26:43]Which means that you're moving forward.
[26:46]You're advancing.
[26:45]You're improving.
[26:48]So inshallah Allahh gives us a ti to be able to make
[26:52]this and shaban and Ramadan the best and shabban and Ramadan we've
[26:55]had in our entire lives and inshallah it becomes a change in
[27:01]our lives a spiritual opening for all of Alhamdulillah.
[27:27]What I show you?
[28:03]ill.
[28:26]>> [clears throat] >> Allahbar.
[28:35]Allahbar.
