[28:57]in for [Music] J [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] I [Music]
[30:49]in in [Music] [Music] all [Music] Muhammad Muhammad alhamdulillah Sal brothers and
[33:08]sisters respected before anything we'd like to send our sincerest condolences to
[33:17]the IM of our time on the martyrdom of his grandmother we'd
[33:29]like to welcome you all to the second night of our English
[33:35]faia program here at the as project as we commemorate the tragedy
[33:40]of tonight we remember the martydom of this great woman a woman
[33:49]who embodied Perfection a woman who showed us the definition of contentment
[33:56]virtue knowledge honesty purity modesty sincerity Justice piety and so much more
[34:05]the daughter of Muhammad and Khadijah the wife of Ali the mother
[34:12]of Hassan Hussein and Z we can go on for days talking
[34:18]about her attributes but perhaps the greatest of them all was that
[34:22]she reached the status of if she is pleased Allah is pleased
[34:25]and if she is angry Allah is angry a woman who gave
[34:32]everything for the sake of Allah a woman that taught us to
[34:35]stand up for the oppressed no matter what and it's precisely because
[34:41]of the lessons we learned from her that those who call out
[34:46]are always persecuted and always attacked because the sons of Fatima don't
[34:53]bow to anyone but Allah because the sons of Fatima rode with
[35:00]their IM and died by his side in kalala because the sons
[35:02]of Fatima did all they could to preserve the religion so that
[35:07]we know the truth today because the sons of Fatima Do not
[35:12]sit idly by and watch as genocide takes place it's narrated from
[35:22]IM that whoever sheds a tear for us whether for blood that
[35:30]was unjustly spiled a right that was taken from us an honor
[35:34]that was violated and then he goes on to say or for
[35:37]one of our Shia Allah the exalted will grant them with it
[35:43]a dwelling in Paradise for eternity and in these difficult times as
[35:51]the illegitimate terrorist state of Israel shows the world its true evil
[35:55]nature we ask our IM how many of your followers have we
[36:01]lost so as we shed tears for our mother Fatima tonight let
[36:07]us also remember her sons and daughters our brothers and sisters as
[36:12]they sacrific themselves their homes their loved ones and everything that they
[36:18]own to stand up to the enemies of God let us not
[36:23]forget these people who have shown us the true meaning of if
[36:28]only we were with you Hussein these people who have earned the
[36:33]right to say that phrase with sincerity in the midst of loss
[36:40]it's easy to lose hope yeah Allah promises us many times in
[36:43]his holy book that Victory will come to those who are on
[36:47]the right path to those who are patient he says oh you
[37:03]who have faith if you help God he will help you and
[37:07]make your feet [Music] Steady As for the faithless their lot will
[37:18]be to fall into ruin and he will make their Works go
[37:24]to waste this is a Divine promise from Allah himself and from
[37:29]this we can see that Victory requires sacrifice and sacrifice requires patience
[37:35]and surely the sons of Ali and Fatima will be Victorious and
[37:42]with that please help me welcome our respected scholar say Hass after
[37:48]aoud muham Muhammad for Rec a for all of our especially the
[38:47]who have given everything for the sake of Islam and for especially
[38:51]the families of the supporters and organizers of this set of lectures
[38:55]and these muham muham [Music] m Muhammad Muhammad brothers and sisters in
[40:33]Islam and let's quickly recap what we introduced and discussed last night
[40:46]we talked about the problem of choice how many of us in
[40:50]this part of the world we've been Afflicted with something called decision
[40:54]paralysis where we have all these choices placed in front of us
[40:58]in all spheres of life and we don't know what the actual
[41:03]right decision is to make on top of that compounding that issue
[41:07]is that there are all these forces at play that try to
[41:12]make that decision easier for us at least that's the way that
[41:15]it's framed to try to make it easier by saying that no
[41:20]there's only two options two choices in every scenario it's either good
[41:25]or bad good or evil right wrong B it and that's it
[41:28]black or white that there is no gray there is no in
[41:32]between and that's how the world and everything and everyone has to
[41:35]be viewed we gave examples about in the political realm it's either
[41:39]Democrat Republican in the religious sphere you're either liberal or conservative and
[41:45]pop culture we see things being divided into again good and evil
[41:49]bad guys Good Guys things like that and when we think about
[41:55]how Society functions how you and I function it's not that simp
[41:58]simple that these forces that are at play don't want us to
[42:03]deeply think and reflect about these problems they don't want us to
[42:05]actually make the right choice which requires a lot more contemplation requires
[42:08]a lot more research a lot more thinking a lot more conversation
[42:12]and discussion and communication they want quick decisions and quick decisions that
[42:18]they have decided for us with this false dichotomy we said that
[42:22]we end up in this decision paralysis and in these problems because
[42:26]of a problem in how we actually make these choices and we
[42:32]said that all stems from a broken identity this identity crisis that
[42:35]many of us are facing here whether we were born and raised
[42:41]whether we immigrated here we're all facing some level of Crisis and
[42:44]we don't know we might think we know but in reality we
[42:46]don't know how to make proper Islamic decisions so I want to
[42:51]expand upon that a little bit more tonight before we go on
[42:54]to our Superman analogy you know we gave this Ayah last night
[43:02]59 19 that do not be like those who forgot about Allah
[43:13]because the conclusion is what then Allah makes us makes you forget
[43:18]about who you truly are your NS your identity these people end
[43:24]up becoming open transgressors those who Rebel those who end up is
[43:28]doing and making the wrong choices we said that that's a way
[43:32]for us to understand why we end up making incorrect choices now
[43:38]a issue that some of us might face or we might respond
[43:40]and say look I don't have that problem I know who I
[43:45]am I'm a Muslim right I say muham I believe in this
[43:48]I believe in the Quran I believe in the I follow the
[43:51]I have all this stuff so I know what decisions to make
[43:55]this is not a complicated thing for me but then we said
[43:57]if that were the case then we wouldn't have so many disagreements
[44:02]between Muslims or between sh amongst us people who are even following
[44:07]the same M with all these social political Community issues how we
[44:11]raise our families what we're doing there's still a lot of disagreement
[44:16]that means somewhere along the way we're making the wrong choices they
[44:20]can't all be correct there has to be some that are closer
[44:22]to the truth and maybe some of them that seem like they're
[44:27]true that seem like they're right that seem like they're the right
[44:30]and good choice but they're actually detrimental and harmful what happens is
[44:37]in a given situation typically when we're about to do something right
[44:42]we're thinking about a problem we're faced with a situation we have
[44:46]to make a choice right sometimes it's something small like something happens
[44:52]in my life and I have to respond to it right let's
[44:55]say I find out that uh a family member of mine has
[44:59]passed away right I get the news how do I respond to
[45:03]that right there's many different things all these emotions that I'm going
[45:06]to be feeling right and I can respond in a lot of
[45:08]different ways right so kind of Imagine in our minds all the
[45:14]different possibilities right you kind of think it's all subconscious we're not
[45:17]thinking out loud but all these ideas all the feelings everything's coming
[45:21]together like a like a wave crashing together all these words that
[45:24]we have at our disposal and sometimes we have we know deep
[45:29]down on one hand there's the proper way that I should respond
[45:31]to this right whenever there's a m I know how I'm supposed
[45:34]to respond I know that that's what Allah this how he wants
[45:37]me to respond I get it but then there's all these other
[45:39]possibilities and sometimes I end up choosing that instead another example let's
[45:45]say someone angers you right makes you angry pisses you off does
[45:52]something you don't like how do you respond right it's a it's
[45:54]a test right for patience is obviously a way that wants us
[45:59]to respond with forgiveness and Overlook it and you know ignore them
[46:02]when they do something they do some sort of V or whatever
[46:05]but then there's all these other possibilities of how we can respond
[46:08]to that individual right we could say something and say okay yeah
[46:12]sure no problem and let it go or there's a whole bunch
[46:14]of other let's say not so nice types of vocabulary that some
[46:19]people will use in place of that right so we know that
[46:21]Allah's gifted us with all this ability to express ourselves we know
[46:25]that there are great things that we can say in response there
[46:30]are things that are okay not bad not good there are things
[46:32]which are probably not ideal maybe leading towards the bad side and
[46:36]then there are things that are straight up Haram and in that
[46:41]Split Second when we're dealing with somebody like that when we're about
[46:45]to make that decision we're Muslim going into it I'm a Muslim
[46:48]when that thing is happening to me but in that Split Second
[46:52]in that moment when I'm dealing with that when that anger rushes
[46:55]up when that fire starts burning up inside me in that moment
[47:00]what I'm really thinking is Allah I know what you want from
[47:03]me I know what I should be saying and I know what
[47:07]I shouldn't say I know how you want me to respond how
[47:11]your I know how they responded I know how their responded I
[47:16]know how the would respond I know how the sh would respond
[47:19]I know all of that but right now sorry Allah I got
[47:24]to forget you because these are my emotions my feelings I'm going
[47:28]to express myself the way that I want I'm going to choose
[47:31]me over you right now that's what it means to say in
[47:35]that moment yes I said Allah sure you're the only one and
[47:40]I believe in you I submit to you sure but for a
[47:43]second Allah I need you out of the picture because I want
[47:45]to do what I want right now the choice that I'm making
[47:49]even though I know sure I claimed Allah I'm going to follow
[47:52]you and submit to you but right now I'd rather do what
[47:55]I want I'd rather do what makes me feel good that's what
[47:58]a true identity crisis actually ends up leading towards is that in
[48:02]one hand we have an identity system we claim we do we
[48:06]have a belief system but then we quickly just switch to another
[48:08]side let me give another example you can send anybody here or
[48:21]you don't have to raise your hand if you are one uh
[48:25]maybe you know somebody who's a vegan right somebody doesn't eat meat
[48:29]or has any animal byproducts things like that right so imagine you
[48:34]let's say meet your colleague your friend whoever it is right who
[48:39]claims to be a vegan you meet them for lunch somewhere right
[48:44]and obviously you have aldah a lot of options around here let's
[48:46]say you go somewhere let's say you're the one who invites them
[48:49]so you go somewhere where you know that okay there's going to
[48:53]be some vegan options for them right some I don't know some
[48:55]Bean something or some salads or whatever is they can figure it
[48:57]out there's options there right when you're there if you're a meat
[49:02]eater okay I'll pick something and I'll let them you know they
[49:04]have their other options I'm looking out for them so you get
[49:06]there waiter comes takes your order and if you're smart maybe you
[49:11]go f Minon medium rare if I was there that's what I
[49:12]would do right you make your order and then your friend your
[49:17]supposed vegan friend says you know what that sounds good I'll take
[49:20]that too now what would be your immediate reaction like hold on
[49:23]a sec I thought you were a vegan like oh well you
[49:26]know I'm actually a spiritual vegan vegan right that's the that's the
[49:27]way I am spiritual vegan what is that it's like you know
[49:32]I believe in the values of being a vegan I don't want
[49:35]to harm animals but you know I'm still working on practicing it
[49:37]like what in the world is that how are you actually a
[49:38]vegan then that person is having kind of an identity crisis it's
[49:43]the way that you and I are we claim Islam Muslim all
[49:48]these fancy little titles sh all of this but when situations arise
[49:53]when we have to make a decision we're like you know what
[49:56]I'll be a spiritual mus Muslim right now Allah will forgive me
[49:58]a little bit later and right now I'll put that practice aside
[50:01]I'll do what I want and I'll work on the rest a
[50:04]little bit later that's what happens when we have these identities to
[50:08]crisis that's what happens is in that moment when we have those
[50:11]trials we have those that fork in the road because we are
[50:16]not actually solidified in our identity we end up making the wrong
[50:19]choice so what we want to try to do in I mean
[50:22]we only have tonight and then tomorrow night if Allah gives us
[50:25]is to try to figure out where we actually went wrong because
[50:30]you might say you know you might say h like I don't
[50:31]get it I don't think I have this problem right I don't
[50:39]forget Allah I I pray I fast I observe modesty I remember
[50:41]Allah I say alhamdulillah I say all those Allah words I say
[50:45]all that stuff so I'm remembering him not forgetting him like this
[50:49]Ayah doesn't apply to me I know people it applies to I
[50:50]know how bad they are and that's not me so sometimes we
[50:55]don't want to apply to ourselves but if we think were a
[50:59]bit more honest with ourselves actually when we're coming to all these
[51:03]sociopolitical issues right like we talked about last night right with the
[51:06]rainbow Rangers and all of that with we're talking about abortion when
[51:09]we're talking about political issues when we're making those decisions am I
[51:14]actually doing something am I making a decision based on an Islamic
[51:17]Identity or am I grabbing from something else I'm saying you know
[51:22]what right now if you're asking me what is the best financial
[51:25]or economic decision to make in my life right now am I
[51:28]doing so withan and in mind according to the rulings of the
[51:33]or am I saying well according to kyian economics actually this is
[51:37]the best decision right now the way the market is going this
[51:40]is actually what's good are we grabbing some other ISM that exists
[51:44]right all these you know these isms that are out there capitalism
[51:48]consumerism socialism communism feminism individualism you know the list goes on we
[51:55]might say Muslim but at the end of the day we reach
[51:58]into that bag of all these other isms and we grab on
[52:02]to one of those instead and then yeah we T we attach
[52:04]the word Islam at the end of it right yeah I believe
[52:09]in a democratic Islam or a capitalistic Islam or socialistic Islam communis
[52:14]whatever it is we take Islam we put it secondary because really
[52:17]we're making Islam a second part of our identity not the first
[52:20]part that's what happens when we have a crisis something else comes
[52:25]along something else that we have been inculcated with with or trained
[52:28]with something else has happened that has pushed us away and made
[52:32]Islam secondary and some other ISM some other ideology has end up
[52:35]coming first that's why some people when they say that they're an
[52:37]American Muslim they phrase it like that for a reason I'm not
[52:41]saying everybody does it like this it's because when certain ideas come
[52:45]about when they're asked about let's say freedom of speech they won't
[52:48]talk about freedom of speech according to the Quran and we'll talk
[52:50]about freedom of speech according to the founding fathers like what does
[52:56]their views have to do with you and I what do their
[52:58]idea of yes you can draw inappropriate cartoons about religious figures that's
[53:02]what their freedom of speech means that's not what our freedom of
[53:05]speech means we don't have the right to insult other people even
[53:09]Idol worshippers as the Quran says we don't have the right of
[53:11]doing sub of people who are worshiping idols and they're Idols why
[53:14]Allah says in the Quran clearly if you insult them they're going
[53:17]to insult Allah back that's the way it works so don't go
[53:21]insulting them but this Society yes you can be a comedian make
[53:24]fun of anybody do whatever it's all part of the you know
[53:27]freedom idea so a lot of people they're going to grab on
[53:29]latch on to that rather than the actual Islamic concept I'm just
[53:34]talking about freedom of speech you can talk about press you can
[53:37]talk about uh the rights in a society internet filtering there's so
[53:41]many different things there's either a perspective trying to consider Islam or
[53:47]we can end up grabbing somebody else's ideology and saying you know
[53:50]Islam will secondary it's just an accessory to what I actually believe
[53:54]what we want to try to do is figure out for ourselves
[53:57]is Islam coming first is Allah first or is he actually second
[54:02]on the list all right Superman okay now what does this have
[54:15]to do with Superman let's explain so first question some trivia what
[54:21]is Superman's true identity what's his name you say it out loud
[54:29]you guys participate you guys you do that stuff here or no
[54:31]car can okay is that right or wrong that's right it's wrong
[54:39]that is not his identity no no no no what's his true
[54:41]identity come on there's no do you see fans here no huh
[54:47]no C that's his actual identity uhuh see in that mistake which
[54:51]is a good mistake you had to make that mistake otherwise El
[54:53]lecture would have been ruined so I'm glad you did that now
[54:57]so why would you say that well obviously it's because there's again
[55:01]I don't want to have to go through the whole Tere of
[55:05]Superman and everything but there's this Alien named C his planet is
[55:08]dying his parents put him in a spaceship and send him off
[55:12]he crash lands on Earth and he's found by human parents Jonathan
[55:15]and Martha Kent and he's raised here he's given the human name
[55:18]Clark Kent and raised in Smallville right so most people even him
[55:24]how does he identify initially he ident identifying as Clark Kent right
[55:28]that's how he's identifying that's who he thinks he is okay now
[55:33]when did Superman I don't know how how much trivia I should
[55:36]do you already you guys failed mostly so I don't know how
[55:38]much I can ask here but okay when did he start to
[55:42]learn about his powers right was it when he was like a
[55:44]baby when he was like middle school high school or was it
[55:48]when he was an adult you guys know and for those who
[55:51]are true fans I know that there are different universes and different
[55:54]iterations in the comics I'm going for the most popular version right
[55:57]now yeah even if you want to go by the the the
[56:01]movie universe that's okay too or the Animated Series that's fine so
[56:03]most say that it was like middle school high school right where
[56:06]he starts to learn about his powers starts to realize that he's
[56:11]got super strength super speed he can fly all the powers that
[56:14]he has right so does he immediately say oh my god I've
[56:19]got all these Powers I'm going to go and fight bad guys
[56:21]is that what happened no that's not what happened what does he
[56:26]do he freaks out he fre freaks out he runs back to
[56:28]his parents and says I don't like this I don't want to
[56:31]be like this right why am I so strange why am I
[56:33]abnormal how come I'm not like anybody else I don't want this
[56:38]and I don't want to be like this right okay now keep
[56:40]those points in mind now let's try to connect it to this
[56:46]idea of identity and choices when you and I if I were
[56:50]to ask you who you are where you're from where am I
[56:52]from right and I've been asked that since I got here multiple
[56:56]times right people ask me are where am I from how should
[56:58]I respond should I say Florida or Orlando because that's where I
[57:03]literally flew from like that's where I've been staying for the past
[57:06]four and a half five years is that the right answer no
[57:08]because I was born and raised in New Jersey should I give
[57:11]that answer well what about where your parents are from all right
[57:14]my parents are from Pakistan technically should I give that answer well
[57:17]no because technically my dad was born in India before there's a
[57:22]partition of Indian Pakistan so am I Indian my M dad would
[57:23]kill me if I said we're Indian CU after the partition nobody
[57:26]like to claim that right when they went to Pakistan said no
[57:29]no no we're Pakistani now we're not Indian anymore like okay sorry
[57:31]that uh so do I say that no I don't say that
[57:35]should I say hij because I'm say is that the right answer
[57:40]do I say Africa because everybody's got the same par like what
[57:43]do we do where should I answer from is that the answer
[57:47]you guys would give would you give some City over here would
[57:50]you say Dearborn would you say the US would you say Lebanon
[57:52]Iraq something like that would you give your village name what answer
[57:58]would you give if we're talking about who we truly are where
[58:01]we really came from where did we actually come from come on
[58:06]this easy Sunday school answer where did we come from came from
[58:11]Allah it's that simple I know it sounds like a very like
[58:14]it's an obvious Point yeah of course we came from Allah but
[58:18]that's a big difference in the same way where people will just
[58:22]like Clark Superman will identify himself initially as Clark if we don't
[58:27]know where we truly come from we won't know how to act
[58:31]while we're here that's the first problem when it comes to an
[58:34]identity crisis let me explain a bit more if you can send
[58:42]you know how we can prove to some degree that Allah knows
[58:48]that we will constantly forget where we truly come from Allah knows
[58:52]that we are going to forget our actual origin that we when
[58:55]people ask us or deep down if I'm thinking about it when
[59:00]I make a decision I'm not going to do it based on
[59:05]oh I'm I'm from Allah I'm a Muslim no most of us
[59:07]will forget that and end up making a decision as an American
[59:12]or as from Pakistani or Lebanese or Iraqi or Iranian whatever we
[59:17]end up making some decision based on that Allah knows that so
[59:20]constantly we were giving reminders over and over and over again toe
[59:26]remind us where we came from and that reminder happens whenever we
[59:30]see somebody going and get sent back off to where they came
[59:32]from whenever somebody passes away what do we remind ourselves every single
[59:39]time the minute we hear that news what do we all say
[59:45]we remind ourselves and everybody else around us when we sent off
[59:52]that back to where they belong back to where they came from
[59:54]that we all came from there we all we all came from
[59:58]Allah and in every single moment we're returning to him too we
[60:01]are all slowly taking these breaths going back towards him that's what
[60:04]our origin is that this person that we're about to bury right
[60:06]now that's where they're going back to where they came from back
[60:11]to where we all came from I I should remember that too
[60:14]I shouldn't limit myself to being an Earthling that I'm stuck over
[60:19]here I'm this on this physical body and I have to do
[60:21]everything according to the demands that this world requires no I have
[60:28]an out of body understanding I have a soul I have a
[60:30]spirit I have an immaterial existence that's what's truly mean not this
[60:33]this is just a vehicle this is just a vessel this is
[60:37]just a means to an ends that's it if this becomes the
[60:42]ends then that's a problem if I think that I'm Clark then
[60:45]that is going to be a problem and the reason that Clark
[60:48]has that problem is what there's a few reasons why he has
[60:51]that issue the first one is what he doesn't know his true
[60:55]identity right he doesn't know that he's Kal from another planet with
[60:58]all these Powers why what were what was the first set of
[61:00]variables the first obstacle in his path to actually stop him from
[61:08]becoming Superman who actually messed with his origin and told him something
[61:13]else his parents is the most important thing when it comes to
[61:21]having a strong Identity or having a weak identity if he was
[61:26]raised by his actual parents then his whole life story would have
[61:29]been different right then he would have just been a quote unquote
[61:34]superhero from the beginning but instead he's raised by two humans people
[61:37]who do not understand what he was truly capable of those who
[61:40]were not equipped with raising somebody who has these abilities and powers
[61:43]and knows what to do with them they had no idea so
[61:47]what do they do they end up limiting him completely so when
[61:49]he's scared and he runs back to them they don't tell you
[61:53]know they don't tell him okay go run out and fight bad
[61:56]guys they don't want him to do that say okay we'll take
[61:57]care of you hide it don't let anybody else know right just
[62:01]fit in with everybody else hopefully you can see where I'm going
[62:05]with this when we're talking about the way that we do so
[62:08]I'm speaking to both parents and kids over here let's go to
[62:11]both we're talking about parents what happens in this Society again I'm
[62:18]speaking to parents first we are the first line of defense or
[62:23]we can even say offense the first system to strengthen our kids
[62:26]identities either we make them or we break them that's in our
[62:31]hands this's this famous Hadith that I'm sure you've heard by where
[62:36]he's reported to have said that there is no child born every
[62:43]single child that's born is born on what the now F it's
[62:48]a long discussion about what that actually means but in a nutshell
[62:51]it's this default Divine programming that all of us have been given
[62:55]every single child every single creation has this Divine programming this default
[63:02]system that we all have of this way of connecting and communicating
[63:06]with Allah every single child has that so then what happens it's
[63:15]parents that come and either turn them into Christians or Jews or
[63:19]in this Hadith so the have two different levels of interpretation for
[63:24]this there's one which is an obvious one why aren't why isn't
[63:29]every single human being in the world Muslim well it's obvious if
[63:32]a child is born in a Christian or Jewish or zor asrian
[63:37]house if their parents are scientologists or atheist or whatever they are
[63:40]then they're going to raise their kids like that so very literally
[63:44]those parents are taking away and polluting the fitra of that child
[63:48]they are born Muslim but the children because of those parents are
[63:51]slowly being taken away from them the F doesn't get erase but
[63:56]it gets polluted it gets covered up it getss pushed away slowly
[63:59]by these parents that's the obvious one but then there's another interpretation
[64:03]offer a bit deeper they say this also applies to Muslim parents
[64:07]as well too say it's possible that Muslim parents can instill Christian
[64:14]Jewish and non-muslim values into their children as well let me give
[64:22]you an example you can recite muham I'm going to do a
[64:32]quick little movie for you you can tell me or you can
[64:36]think for yourselves if this seems like a good reenactment of how
[64:39]those of you who are around my age or so how you
[64:42]and I have been raised for those of you who are parents
[64:44]if this seems like the way that you and I parent child
[64:49]is born raise them love and care we give them basic stuff
[64:56]like okay uh teach you about Allah help you understand the Quran
[64:59]and read Quran try to make you understand and connect with the
[65:02]bring you to program sometimes forcibly dragging you by the neck and
[65:06]just sit down and be quiet and listen to the program listen
[65:09]to the lecture no matter how boring it happens to be just
[65:11]listen to them anyway okay and then what happens then they're in
[65:18]school say okay you need to make sure you do well in
[65:20]school you need to get good grades you need to stay home
[65:24]and study and do well okay well why do I have to
[65:28]do all of that well you need to get good grades so
[65:29]you can get into a good college good University okay fine why
[65:33]do I need to get into a good college or a good
[65:35]University well you need to go into a good college and a
[65:40]good University so you can get a good job okay got it
[65:43]why do I need a good job well you need a good
[65:44]job because you need money okay well why do I need money
[65:48]you need money because you got to get married and nobody wants
[65:50]to marry a poor person right that's how it works if it's
[65:55]a son you're like no no girl's going to marry some poor
[65:57]guy you have to have enough money to take care of her
[66:01]and if it's a daughter I have daughters we don't want the
[66:04]marrying some broke loser guy as well right like no no nobody
[66:09]like that right so all this is what it's all materialistic the
[66:12]whole time there's no conversation about tawa there's no conversation about the
[66:17]soul of spirituality it's all what here's some here's some materialism here's
[66:21]this DWI version of success that's it nothing else is talked about
[66:25]in the house except for that you have to be successful here
[66:27]you got to do well you got to get out there XYZ
[66:30]you have to get your name out there be whatever right and
[66:32]again I don't obviously know your culture specifically but when I was
[66:36]growing up again it may be similar but it was either either
[66:40]you're a doctor you're an engineer or you're a failure these are
[66:42]the three options that you're given right that's kind of it if
[66:45]you're anything else then you're done in life right you're a disappointment
[66:48]to your parents right no matter how much you end up achieving
[66:50]your parents are always like well yeah you could have done better
[66:52]right what's the point even the uh my my home father my
[66:57]little blesson remember the first time yeah he was present when I
[67:00]was giving a lecture somewhere this was in New Jersey so you
[67:02]know obviously I was nervous right giving a lecture in front of
[67:07]my father and U he was a was a critical type right
[67:08]so he was sitting there his arms folded listening to me like
[67:13]intently and afterwards when I was done uh you know I came
[67:15]and I was like okay dad you know what did you think
[67:18]like was a little long okay thanks Dad sometimes you can't make
[67:24]him proud right nothing you can do but I know no deep
[67:25]down he was was obviously Allah bless him but sometimes that's the
[67:30]way that parents are that's that's the way that we are as
[67:33]parents is the measure of success that we're giving is not according
[67:36]to and success that's mentioned in the Quran not the way that
[67:40]it's described by the it's saying look you want to be successful
[67:45]in this capitalistic Society the only way you do the only way
[67:48]you can be successful is if you add to GDP growth that's
[67:51]it cuz that's what the capitalist system tells you if you're not
[67:54]a cog in this wheel you're useless that's the way it is
[67:58]how many parents are actually willing to tell their children that look
[68:01]you study you do your best right if you want to go
[68:06]to school great if you don't that's okay too if you want
[68:08]to get one of these six figure jobs that's okay if you
[68:12]want to do something hourly that's fine too as long as you
[68:15]get risk that's okay whatever it is you have ta that's good
[68:19]enough right you want to do something very simple some very simple
[68:22]blue collar job whatever it is as long as you have tawa
[68:24]you're doing it in the right way then that's fine with me
[68:27]we'll support you how many parents actually say something like that to
[68:30]their kids or is it the other way around that no if
[68:33]you're not making lots of money you're a failure you're useless you
[68:36]didn't succeed we failed you how where did we go wrong we
[68:39]sacrificed so much we left this to come here and this is
[68:42]the best you can do right that's how it usually is there's
[68:45]no Islamic conversation there there's no Islamic it's pure materialism it's pure
[68:51]D that's all it is so yes we are teaching them about
[68:56]the Quran and but are those values being instilled not at all
[69:00]we imagine that hey if I can just sit them down in
[69:04]a program or send them to an Islamic school magically they're going
[69:06]to turn out like like no it doesn't work like that there
[69:11]has to be specific values that you and I as parents we
[69:14]live in the house we don't just force and tell them Islam
[69:20]we have to live Islam ourselves as parents now I said this
[69:23]about parents I also have to say cuz I don't want the
[69:27]kids to get the wrong idea you know usually when we talk
[69:28]about let's say parenting and what usually happens in most communities so
[69:32]the parents usually come to me either before or after they say
[69:36]say you need to tell the kids to listen to us and
[69:38]respect us okay thank you Uncle thank you Auntie I appreciate that
[69:43]yeah I said I'll do that as long as you let me
[69:45]criticize your new parenting first like what I said if your kids
[69:51]are not respecting you they're not listening or obeying you it's not
[69:55]their fault it's probably your fault sorry to say if they don't
[69:59]have love for the Quan and and they're not living Islam the
[70:02]way you want it's probably something that you did it's probably not
[70:07]them broken that they are like the spawn of of Satan all
[70:09]of a sudden and then oh why did Allah give me this
[70:13]thing no it's probably not like that it's probably somewhere along the
[70:17]way all that system of the that's been given right the 0
[70:22]to 7 7 to 14 14 to 21 that's been mentioned in
[70:23]the r maybe that I didn't really Follow That Right Said to
[70:30]do a certain way well thank you very much I'm not interested
[70:33]in that I'm going to hit my kid when I feel like
[70:35]it I know you say try to you know not yell at
[70:38]our kids and do this but I like to yell at them
[70:41]I'm going to yell I know Alam you said do not be
[70:43]angry with your children don't do don't discipline them while you're angry
[70:47]well guess what I get angry a lot and I'm going to
[70:49]discipline them like that what is that it's an identity crisis we're
[70:51]saying as parents I know that you've given me tedia principles I
[70:56]don't care you take your principles you move aside I'm going to
[70:58]do what I want so even in teria as parents we sometimes
[71:03]lose our identity and do what our parents did to us which
[71:05]our grandparents may have gotten know this word generational trauma it's one
[71:09]of my favorite words favorite generational trauma there is such a thing
[71:13]I believe so but it's been used as an excuse I think
[71:17]for too long we as parents need to stop reorient ourselves and
[71:21]say okay either I parent like and that's where get a Hussein
[71:27]that's how I can raise them I hear all these stories okay
[71:31]if I want these types of children I better raise them that
[71:33]way then but if I act like a mua in the house
[71:37]then I'm going to get a yazid in the house what else
[71:40]do I expect that's what's going to happen so that was the
[71:43]kind or semi kind I guess kind of harsh advice to all
[71:48]of us as parents and reminders for us now the kids I
[71:50]don't want you to get crazy ey there and arrogant say Mom
[71:53]Daddy hope you were listening to that okay kids you need to
[71:58]understand as well too sometimes we have to be a lot more
[72:01]empathetic and sympathetic to our parents as well how often did they
[72:08]actually learn the proper system of T the language that you and
[72:10]I need to hear being born and raised look our parents were
[72:16]not equipped to come over here and deal with this Western culture
[72:19]they have no clue whatsoever what parent that comes from the East
[72:23]is able to help out their child when their child comes back
[72:26]from school and says well guess what one of my friends in
[72:29]class uh at the beginning of class uh she said she was
[72:33]a girl then at the end of school she switched and now
[72:35]identifies as a boy and then uh on the bus she said
[72:39]she identified as a toilet so what is that in Islam what
[72:43]do we do there how was a how was a parent supposed
[72:45]to deal with something like that this weird identity stuff they don't
[72:48]know how to deal with that they're just going to be like
[72:52]you know what are they going to tell you they have no
[72:55]idea how to respond to this so so we have to be
[72:56]a bit more understanding not so judgmental and I was like this
[73:01]when I was younger too I was like oh Mom Dad why
[73:02]didn't you tell me about XYZ nobody told them the the that
[73:08]were coming and speaking in their malalis and lectures they weren't talking
[73:11]about you know the deeper points of Islamic T they weren't teaching
[73:15]them that least in my community is growing up my parents and
[73:19]the grandparents what were they hearing every single M was that's it
[73:23]that's all they heard over and over again which are all good
[73:29]in their place but that's not enough to actually deal with the
[73:32]issues on the ground here so us those kids of that generation
[73:38]whether you call it first or second generation Muslim Americans American Muslims
[73:40]whatever term we use we have to be a bit more understanding
[73:44]a bit more kind to our parents if they don't have the
[73:46]skills if they weren't taught or equipped with these skills we can't
[73:49]really hold them accountable we can't be rude and mean towards them
[73:53]for that we should be a bit more understanding and realize that
[73:56]you know what they're doing the best they can and maybe I
[74:02]should extend an olive branch sometimes too when they are a little
[74:05]bit harsher with me when they're a bit more strict when they
[74:07]don't understand they can't speak my language they don't understand the culture
[74:10]okay so they they can't do it well if they don't have
[74:14]the ability I'm aware of that so I have to put in
[74:18]a bit more effort if they can only go 30% then that
[74:19]other 70% that's my responsibility I'll take the extra step they brought
[74:24]me into this world in the first place they've taken care of
[74:26]the least I can do is do a little bit of to
[74:29]them if I can right okay I'm hitting 35 minutes I want
[74:30]to stop here we'll talk about the next variable tomorrow for you
[74:35]to think about as well so the parents of Superman of Clark
[74:38]that was the first variable which blocked him from Living his true
[74:41]potential which made him disregard and forget his true origin what was
[74:47]the next variable what was the next thing which actually stopped him
[74:51]from reaching his full potential and being who he should have been
[74:55]and understanding his origin think about that and we'll address that variable
[74:59]with tomor thank you s we'd like to remind everyone that tomorrow
[75:50]will be the last day for the youth program for young boys
[75:54]and girls ages 5 to 11 these programs are held during the

[76:40]sisters it takes a lot of time and effort to run a
[76:47]program like this and their tireless work makes that possible in the
[76:50]event of a medical emergency we have a first a team that
[76:53]will take care of you so please allow them to do their
[76:58]work and only they are allowed in the medical room and finally
[77:01]we we kindly ask everyone to keep the hall the restrooms and
[77:05]the parking lot clean mam before the mjus I'd like to ask
[77:17]everyone to close their eyes and embark on a short Journey with
[77:23]me with a short poem titled Ali written by my dear brother
[77:44]who killed Christ touching her broken rib Ali who killed cries touching
[77:59]her broken rhyth the sun sets and is silent there is no
[78:08]one that's patient the sun sets and is silent there is no
[78:12]one that's patient as Hearts break for this moment the one who
[78:23]sees Ali aches named haar by his mother killed 35 at B
[78:29]and raised the Gate of when finding her rib he shakes named
[78:41]Ha by his mother killed 35 at bad and raised the Gate
[78:49]of when finding her rib he shakes he sits curled up and
[78:57]crying the lion of God wailing and every cry is asking how
[79:06]can Fatima's rib break a tragedy he has found a tragedy he
[79:14]has found he sheds tears that shake the ground every time they
[79:20]hear a sound the sound of her rib breaking her rib reaches
[79:27]his finger the thought of it is torture he cannot bear to
[79:34]touch her the door he's remembered between the door and the wall
[79:41]the one from Heaven would fall and when for help she would
[79:47]call for Ali she'd be screaming Ali would stand the moon upon
[79:59]Earth would land would stand the moon upon Earth would land he'd
[80:05]raised the gates with his hand but he could not touch her
[80:09]rib he raised the gate with his hand but he could not
[80:18]touch her rib the one who never felt fear is tortured by
[80:25]every tear he wish he wasn't here and was still fighting give
[80:31]Ali any battle any pain any trial give Ali any battle any
[80:41]pain any trial just no rib and no nail and no M's
[80:47]empty crib when he holds her and he cries I see stars
[80:59]fall from the skies the sun sets and doesn't rise because Ali
[81:04]is in pain to her grave he carries her where he walks
[81:14]roses wither above him the skies shatter and the P zah they
[81:20]rain Ali lowers her body but look at this tragedy when her
[81:30]body he bury he feels her rip again please help me welcome
[81:43]brother Hassan B the M recer after all [Music] sh [Music] [Music]
[82:47]together to our beloved say Fatima who travel with our our hearts
[82:55]and our spirits [Music] [Music] [Music] Allah [Music] I shall not forget
[84:22]the day they came and St B her home without change they
[84:35]burn the door upon the daughter of light while she stood behind
[84:48]hidden from and with the name her just [Music] day as she
[85:03]called muhamad behind the door and in her womb was SK without
[85:26]his blood was [Music] spilled yet with all her sorrow and all
[85:40]her pain she firmly stood behind what P the heart of must
[86:07]Soul was the strike they deal upon her what daugh of a
[86:22]prophet pure and divine would face such torment and her [Music] conf
[86:53]together for [Music] was the Exemplar of how a faithful person should
[87:19]be I believe we touched upon this yesterday briefly we'll mention some
[87:25]of a Hadith that give us a very small glimpse into the
[87:33]character of say and truly aah is not understood by most people
[87:44]there is a Divine secrecy around the value of Z and around
[87:55]her role and her magnanimity and how Grand she is this is
[88:03]why when after you know Islam became the norm and it was
[88:13]gaining ground and becoming strong in Mecca and in Medina people approached
[88:18]the prophet many of the nobl men from the Arab wanting to
[88:22]ask for his daughter's hand in marriage and he would often say
[88:29]it's not up to me who it up to you he would
[88:33]say it's up to Allah subhah and he said this decision comes
[88:39]from God and when im Ali proposed many said oh you're you're
[88:50]the prophet and you just established this new Revolution and you brought
[88:55]this faith and Revelation and you're marrying your daughter off to a
[88:59]poor man sure Ali is great nobody would ever dare say otherwise
[89:02]they can't but he's a poor man and would say Ali was
[89:13]chosen for Fatima by Allah and Ali is the greatest and so
[89:21]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala found for the greatest lady the greatest husband
[89:26]and one Hadith says if it wasn't for Ali then no man
[89:36]would have been worthy of being married to because as described he
[89:48]Saidi is the in many had I don't want to give a
[89:53]lecture I just want to give the he describes in one instance
[89:58]for example that IMI with one strike in battle because of his
[90:04]dedication and Devotion to Allah he says the strike of Ali in
[90:09]battle a single strike from IM Ali in battle is equivalent to
[90:13]the Good Deeds of both humans and Jin until the day of
[90:17]judgment and on the other hand we have says is Big she
[90:38]has reached a level of piety and knowledge and awareness and connection
[90:43]with Allah and yeah she's been so dissolved in her spirit in
[90:50]Allah subhanahu wa taala in Divinity that now whatever pleases Allah pleases
[90:57]Fatima and whatever pleases Fatima pleases Allah and whatever upsets Fatima upsets
[91:02]Allah and whatever upsets Allah upsets FAA and her emotions are based
[91:12]on Allah subhanahu waala's will even to that level right the prophet
[91:19]also described her from her kindness and care and love and compassion
[91:23]as AB how she would treat him and care for him after
[91:29]died passed away she treated him the way a mother treats her
[91:34]son that type of love and dedication and compassion she is the
[91:42]mother of Hussein when im aliam was asked how he lived with
[91:51]Fatima look at this Hadith he says I would come and I
[92:07]would be filled with worries but I would look at the face
[92:12]of FAA and all worries and Sorrows would wash away just by
[92:18]looking at and the are many the prophet also said and I
[92:28]mentioned this yesterday after Prophet Muhammad this great lady this great this
[92:37]lady that is blessed with so much Divinity that's held in such
[92:40]high regard by Allah and his messenger they attacked her house because
[92:47]she was standing for the word of Allah and the word of
[92:51]his messenger she was defending the will of IM Ali and by
[92:57]that she was defending Islam they attacked her home and they wounded
[93:02]her and they killed her baby in her womb and some narrations
[93:08]even say that they beat say that she was punched in some
[93:14]instances and she was attacked by a whip allahar all of this
[93:22]because she stood in defense of Truth and the face of in
[93:28]the face of falsehood and satanic schemes this brothers and sisters after
[93:36]was attacked and wounded and injured after she had felt the Deep
[93:49]pain of orphanhood and treason and how this um betrayed her father
[93:53]she would off and go to visit the grave of where she
