[0:06][Music] [Music] [Music] Z say [Applause] the seventh night of Mam and
[0:50]this night is usually dedicated to abas the son of and while
[0:58]there may be many queries regarding him and regarding his actions inala
[1:05]or in most of us know and understand that Alam was one
[1:09]of the few people in Al Hussein's Caravan to ever reach water
[1:13]after it was prevented from them so the umad when Al Hussein
[1:20]and also his family went to carala As Told yesterday and the
[1:24]day before they surrounded them from all flanks of course there is
[1:32]wiggle room there are several people to come to umbala after Hussein
[1:36]set camp and several people to leave Al Hussein actually sent uh
[1:42]several messages to Medina and other places and he had to send
[1:46]them on Horseback so there was a tight grip but that grip
[1:53]would be lenient if the one exiting or entering is someone that
[1:57]is not really important or not a very wellknown and ous and
[2:00]strong um let's say military man or someone that would actually uh
[2:09]bring in water or something of the sort so by the seventh
[2:12]night of muharam all water was cut out and Imam Hussein and
[2:17]also his family members weren't able to get any it is reported
[2:21]that this was a huge catastrophe because of the scolding heat the
[2:24]unforgiving heat of the Sahara over there and also they were nous
[2:30]in numbers I mean especially when it comes to women and children
[2:33]they brought all that they could and this was actually a very
[2:40]very strong message to the enemies that we are not here to
[2:44]wage war otherwise then who would take his ladies for war so
[2:46]they knew that war will fall upon them but this is a
[2:51]clear message that Al Hussein would not go out and fight uh
[2:53]intentionally and you know wanting to let's say face the um umay
[3:00]Dynasty and and start them with war even when the 10th of
[3:03]muharam came some of his companions said to Al Hussein give us
[3:07]permission so that we may go to the heavens so he said
[3:13]or which translates into I hate to start these people with war
[3:20]and if Al IM Hussein actually did go intentionally um without any
[3:28]woman and uh to go and and St the reason would be
[3:30]to fight then his death would be in vain and we wouldn't
[3:37]benefit what we benefit today from carala and that is a story
[3:40]for another time but returning back to Al Abbas there are many
[3:45]questions and queries regarding him some of them are very very pressing
[3:49]and important such as isn't it suicide that Abul Abbas didn't drink
[3:53]from the water and he returned back if he drunk from the
[3:57]water then he may have been let's say nourished enough to fight
[4:01]even some more so what was the reason behind that there are
[4:06]actually several reasons behind this but we need first to bear in
[4:08]mind that not only is Al Abbas a son of a maum
[4:13]and infallible but also his brother was a maum and an infallible
[4:19]and Alum would never would never be quiet if he saw something
[4:22]that was very let's say wrong or exaggerated or something out of
[4:26]context but IM Hussein said nothing regarding this from Abbas rather he
[4:32]actually was giving him Merit and giving him credit for what he
[4:37]had done so now what are the reasons the first and the
[4:39]foremost and most important maybe reason is that Al Abbas already knew
[4:48]exactly when he is going to be killed and that was foretold
[4:53]by his father and also um by his mother-in-law F and also
[4:59]by his grandfather the prophet Muhammad s and this passed down to
[5:03]Z and also andus and you could see actually in the story
[5:09]of carala that when Abbas is leaving for the final time he
[5:14]is telling them that I know that this is going to be
[5:16]the final time that I bid you farewell and so they cried
[5:21]severely the ladies around him the ladies of Hashim and he spent
[5:24]a lot of time with Zam consoling her and telling her that
[5:30]now is the time and when he was going to leave Al
[5:36]IM Hussein they actually shared a very very very special moment that
[5:39]is transcending through history till till this day showing us how true
[5:45]brothership should be so now if you know that you're going to
[5:47]die anyways you may say why wouldn't I have a sip of
[5:51]water so at least I'll die comfortably here comes the actual uh
[5:57]consolidation part with Al Hussein because he knows that Al Hussein is
[6:06]to be dead thirsty as the prophet sallallah alai said in several
[6:10]occasions uh and in one of the occasions he was actually talking
[6:15]not one several also but in this specific one he was talking
[6:19]to fatah and he was telling her that he is going to
[6:24]be murdered and martyred while he is thirsty and he would fight
[6:29]thirsty In the Heat of the desert so if he knew that
[6:34]his brother will die uncom uncomfortably then he is not able to
[6:37]even fathom the idea of drinking some water remember when abas fell
[6:43]to the ground and then Hussein offered to take him to the
[6:47]camps and Al Hussein kept putting the head of Abbas on his
[6:53]lap but Abbas would pull himself even though he is severely wounded
[6:57]and exhausted to the to the least that we could say that
[7:03]he was exhausted and exhausted is such an understatement to the state
[7:06]that he was in the narration say that his head was wide
[7:08]open because of the strike that was upon his head and actually
[7:16]uh would throw himself on the sand a lot of the sand
[7:21]the scorching sand will not only burn the underside of the head
[7:23]but will also enter into the wound and cause him more pain
[7:27]and Agony but he did that several times until IM Hussein asked
[7:30]him why are you doing this he said because I know that
[7:35]there will come a time in which no one will put your
[7:37]head in their lap so I can't have special treatment that you
[7:43]will never have you are my Superior and I must always be
[7:46]the like of you when it comes to pain and suffering and
[7:50]sharing was huge on the idea of being equal to others to
[7:56]the extent that even when he ruled the Islamic world with all
[7:58]of its riches he used to eat nothing but just a few
[8:05]bites of um oat meal bread that was very dry that the
[8:10]narration would say that he would break it with his feet and
[8:15]then dip it in water to just soft it enough just for
[8:17]it to be barely manageable by the teeth and barely um um
[8:23]something that you could swallow so when they asked him why do
[8:26]you do this to yourself you're now becoming an old man and
[8:30]uh because he he ruled at the end of his Reign and
[8:32]at the end of his age uh peace be upon him and
[8:37]his family so he said to them how can I fathom the
[8:40]idea of me eating food while my neighbor may be hungry while
[8:44]there is someone under the under the shade of the Sun that
[8:50]is Affiliated to my country that is feeling hungry that is feeling
[8:54]thirsty so I must always be with them what did not Clow
[9:01]however is that he is also remembering always carala and if you
[9:06]have the idea of your son passing through such Agony then life
[9:13]would have no meaning so enjoying food and enjoying cold beverages that
[9:17]was something just you know not in Imam Ali's dictionary at all
[9:20]so Imam Ali has taught his children how to deal in such
[9:28]cases and so this was the way that am tributed to his
[9:31]father and also gave consolidation to his brother and sister Zam secondly
[9:39]we always presume that when Abbas went into the water he actually
[9:45]had a chance to just relax and chill in the water and
[9:50]then leave out and this may be predominantly because uh our reciters
[9:55]the eulogists the shs the mulas the says what they all describe
[10:01]in huge detail what happened to Al Abbas per the narration books
[10:05]and so because of the lengthy duration of what they narrate you'd
[10:10]think that he jumped alone into the water he didn't even the
[10:16]enemies followed him through but he and he had barely the chance
[10:20]to just dip uh the piece of uh leather that is called
[10:25]Jude or it's called kba or it's called several other names so
[10:28]just like a bag pipe an emptied back pipe and he would
[10:35]dip it inside and then carry it or if it was very
[10:37]heavy like I assume the one that he was holding because he
[10:43]was going to return to approximately about um 90 people so how
[10:47]how will they all drink if it just held for example one
[10:52]or two or three or couple more gallons so if that was
[10:54]the case then what they would do is they would dip the
[10:59]whole horse in water and keep the sachche open so that when
[11:02]they go inside the movement of the horse will fill in the
[11:06]water and when they are going out the weight of the water
[11:09]will pull itself on a string and it will automatically tie Itself
[11:12]by its own weight and this is the more plausible thing because
[11:17]they had different sizes I mean when we listen to the story
[11:23]of mam um when he actually saw the daughters of sh trying
[11:27]to get water but there were many men so he volunteered and
[11:30]it said in the narration that the big sachche of water that
[11:36]it wasn't a bucket but rather a piece of uh leather that
[11:39]was dropped in the well would actually be carried comfortably by 40
[11:44]men for zero and it was made from oxen skin so it
[11:50]wasn't only one piece of oxen but rather several pieces all sewn
[11:54]together and then tied with heavy rope and even the Rope would
[12:00]go under the underbelly of the sachche so that it would carry
[12:03]the weight with the leather so that the leather is only water
[12:07]proofing it will not bear uh a lot of weight it will
[12:12]bear minimum weight so there were different sizes you can have them
[12:15]as much as you can and this would actually make a lot
[12:21]of sense because alasam not only is returning for hundreds of people
[12:25]but also because he dipped his whole horse into the water so
[12:28]this means that he either or um he he either wanted to
[12:37]very quickly finish the deed or that it the water Sashi was
[12:40]too big for one to fill outside and uh it would take
[12:45]so much time that it would be dangerous and the danger is
[12:47]that he's not able to return the water then not that he
[12:52]is fearful upon his own life he has sold his soul for
[12:54]the pleasure of his creator and maker when he ordered them to
[13:01]take uh their fortifications at carala and wait until all uh the
[13:06]war is uh undone upon them uh plus the people that were
[13:16]following abas knew that even a horse would do just so much
[13:19]benefit inside the water it would be heavy to move and since
[13:23]it's heavy to move then it's easy to hit and it's easy
[13:24]to hit also the Sach of water it's easy to hit Abbas
[13:29]he would be drowning in water and he will be many times
[13:35]heavier than he was when he initially entered so this the this
[13:37]is actually the best time to attack him so they kept actually
[13:40]going into the water after him until he went out of the
[13:46]water just probably just circling through away from them uh because it's
[13:49]a real disadvantage to fight in water so even if you are
[13:53]a brave man you would be a foolish man to fight in
[13:55]water and he is no way foolish and so when Abbas if
[14:01]he's going to enter this quick and get out and he had
[14:03]one Mission and one Mission only he would be focused and he
[14:08]wouldn't actually really have a chance to drink a lot he could
[14:11]drink I mean it's the water's just at his knees level he
[14:15]could just take just a sip or something but how much will
[14:18]a sip do if you've been just draining your hydration for three
[14:21]full days and um let me tell you this alas reached water
[14:28]four times so it was only after the seventh that he was
[14:34]not successful in returning it for several different reasons each in its
[14:39]own case one time for example he did actually go in and
[14:42]took the water back but because the orphans were were so um
[14:48]you know keen on drinking water when he put this sachche on
[14:50]the ground so that each would have his sip they just gathered
[14:56]and flocked and then the the Rope was undone and it opened
[14:59]and Spilled and the narrations also say that the children keep kept
[15:03]taking the remainder of the Sach and sucking on it or putting
[15:07]it on their chests and their backs and their heads only to
[15:10]cool off and if several kids would be doing that at the
[15:15]same time then it would make sense for the S to be
[15:17]small it had to be something big it had to be something
[15:20]that was Hefty in weight also and also there are other reasons
[15:26]for this which is that Al abas Alam when he went into
[15:32]the fight the final fight before he was going to be martyred
[15:38]when he did that the people that were actually trying to attack
[15:45]him were in between palm trees so present day Euphrates you could
[15:49]see that the water is growing to its right I mean the
[15:53]the palm trees and Greener is growing to to its right and
[15:55]its left probably just like 100 meters or so because it's so
[16:00]hot and and the sand is not really fit to carry any
[16:02]other than palm trees because they can secure themselves well in the
[16:09]very windy desert and they could tolerate the dips and changes in
[16:12]temperature at night and day so when he was exiting actually and
[16:18]this was the reason why his hands were cut peace be upon
[16:22]him and may God inshallah uh accept us as people that love
[16:27]Abbas so when he is going out he had to maneuver several
[16:33]palm trees to the right and to the left and to be
[16:39]quick moving so any second that is spared in the water even
[16:42]if no one is the water in the water with him no
[16:46]one's sharing it he would actually have to go super fast so
[16:52]that when he is leaving no one could get in his way
[16:53]and hide behind the palm tree but they did and they prepared
[16:56]themselves and don't think that it was only two people that cut
[17:01]Al abbas's hand they had like the the full army they were
[17:03]so afraid from Abbas and what they saw from his might that
[17:08]they were hiding behind trees here and there it just happened per
[17:11]chance and uh per uh and actually per our belief per destiny
[17:17]that his killer would be behind let's say palm tree X and
[17:20]palm tree y so drinking water and just losing focus will mean
[17:27]that you would we wouldn't be able to see the people that
[17:29]are hiding behind the palm trees so I'd imagine actually that even
[17:34]when he was jumping into the water he is looking backwards not
[17:38]forwards the horse is going to fill the water on its own
[17:42]as I explained earlier the sachche would be just wide open and
[17:45]then it would be submerged and then it will be automatically tied
[17:49]when he goes out so that that would be just an easy
[17:52]feat so looking backwards is actually his best chance so even lowering
[18:01]the eyesight slightly just to have a sip of water that would
[18:05]be would mean emminent danger and could cause him not returning the
[18:09]water back and what is the most important thing for abam it
[18:14]is to return the water for all the orphans and all the
[18:16]ladies that are awaiting him so that he would be able to
[18:22]serve them and give them the water that he has promised now
[18:25]we enter another question why would Abbas promis something that he is
[18:31]not able to deliver answer here is very simple and straightforward really
[18:34]because he did say that I promise you I'll I'll be getting
[18:37]it if Allah spares my hands and His Hands weren't spared uh
[18:43]a second thing is that abam had a generalistic promise also to
[18:48]protect the ladies and provide for them as much as possible so
[18:52]that may have been even from Al Medina and it continues to
[18:58]be valid until his martyrdom until at least he lost his hands
[19:02]per Generations because that was the condition that even gave his daughter
[19:08]Zab when he was dying and he was giving them their will
[19:11]and he was entrusting Al Abbas trusting her in Al abbas's hands
[19:17]so he said that I UST you oh Abbas upon my daughter
[19:23]um and the condition is if your hands are still intact so
[19:25]this was actually a sign that was always on zab's mind she
[19:30]was always looking at abbas's hand and kissing them also and wishing
[19:34]and not wishing but rather praying from Allah subhah wa tala to
[19:37]keep them safe so the full family will be kept safe and
[19:39]Hussein will be also kept in safety because Al Hussein was martyred
[19:46]only after the martyrdom of Al Abbas and all of his other
[19:51]family members so that is the thing that it was a conditioned
[19:54]promise another thing is even when it comes to a full-fledged Islamic
[20:00]promise like someone saying W and he's vowing on Allah's name that
[20:07]he will do such a thing for example in Juris Prudence we
[20:11]have that um and it's unanimous actually not only by sh but
[20:15]also by sunnis that when a person performs a vow and a
[20:19]promise with the name of Allah and then it becomes impossible for
[20:22]him then directly he is Unchained and this vow uh falls apart
[20:28]and is invalid so it doesn't work anymore he doesn't have to
[20:32]do what he has promised so even if he promised truly then
[20:35]he is able then uh he would be relieved the moment that
[20:40]the hands would fly off and so when he saw Al Hussein
[20:53]looked to his right and his left and was saying alarm [Applause]
[21:22]he was calling on his dead Companions and telling them why do
[21:30]I call upon you and you don't reply is there anyone to
[21:37]Aid us is there anyone to stand with us so Al abas
[21:42]looked to Al Hussein's right and he saw the children just thirsty
[21:52]and crying out of their pain and their misery so Al Abbas
[21:55]came to those children and told them that insh will be getting
[22:01]you the water all I need is permission from my brother Hussein
[22:05]and when Al Hussein was faced by Al abas and Al Abbas
[22:13]was telling him oh brother I seek your permission so that I
[22:21]would be able to go and fight and bring the water for
[22:27]your orphans so Al Hussein cried loudly and said oh Abbas you
[22:36]are the r of my Battalion and if you go then I
[22:45]shall go very quickly after you do you intend to be the
[22:49]reason why my Army falls down and so we would think what
[22:57]arm Hussein they're all just dead bodies and carcasses on the land
[23:02]of carala being baked under the Heat and so Al abas told
[23:05]him oh brother I've grown sick of this life and I would
[23:12]like to go to my ancestors in the great there after so
[23:16]give me my permission so Al Hussein's eyes were locked with Al
[23:25]abas and he embraced him and he started shaking and crying and
[23:30]Zab says I don't know how much time they spent saying their
[23:38]goodbyes and then Al husse let Al abas go and he told
[23:40]him oh Abbas go and say your final farewell to our sister
[23:49]Z and to the ladies of Hashim and to the children oh
[23:56]my brothers and sisters so entered the tent for them and saw
[24:07]them gathered around he said I am taking my leave so Zab
[24:11]stood up and she ran towards Al abas embracing him and soon
[24:16]followed all of the sisters of Abbas and his nephews and all
[24:24]the children all of them saying Oh don't leave us Abbas but
[24:28]he said this is what Allah has wanted and so he embarked
[24:36]on his on his horse and went towards the river he kept
[24:41]striking the people in front of him to the right and to
[24:47]the left and he was going inside the ranks while he was
[24:57]saying in poetry yeah and then when he entered into the water
[25:07]and felt the cool of the water under his feet he then
[25:14]looked at the water and and and was seeing that it was
[25:22]moving like silver snakes and then he said I shall never drink
[25:25]from this water until I reach my grandfather father Muhammed until I
[25:33]reach my father Ali [Music] [Music] and then Al abas exited the
[26:17]water and went into the forest of palm trees oh brothers and
[26:26]sisters and while he was going through an enemy of Allah was
[26:33]hiding behind the palm tree so he lifted his sword and he
[26:41]struck Al Abbas on his right hand where are the people that
[26:47]would call so he said in 4 three [Music] [Applause] [Music] and
[27:15]then he continued trying to hold the sachet of water with his
[27:23]remaining hand and holding the flag so it wouldn't fall and trying
[27:27]to reach to the soul and when he was still in the
[27:34]forest then another enemy of Allah head behind one of the pals
[27:39]and he struck severing his [Applause] [Music] [Applause] left and so [Applause]
[28:00]also said in his [Music] poetry hugged the saet of water with
[28:28]his hands keeping the flag in his arm it and he was
[28:31]moving as fast as he could so while he was moving there
[28:38]was an arrow that struck his right right right [Applause] ey and
[28:52]then they started FL flying all these arrows against Abbas until his
[28:57]body was like a hedgehog and when abas looked at the saet
[29:08]of water the bag was caught from everywhere with the arrows and
[29:12]this is when abas knew that he wasn't to get to return
[29:19]so he [Applause] said and then tried to remove this Arrow from
[29:32]his eye so he bent over lifting his knees on the saddle
[29:39]so that he ledge the arrow and remove it from his eyes
[29:43]as he has no right nor left and at that moment one
[29:54]enemy of Allah came to him with a big Iron rod and
[30:04]he struck on his head until he fell on the lands of
[30:16]and the nation say when Abbas fell down he had no right
[30:23]nor left and he faced his chest when falling so all the
[30:27]arrows were ingrained into his skin and muscles and then he [Applause]
[30:40]said and so husin started running towards him and and Zab was
[30:51]exclaiming and crying until he reached him and so he said Al
[30:54]Abbas said I ask you whoever you are by the right of
[31:00]the god that you follow only give me one hour to see
[31:04]my brother Hussein and so Al Hussein told him oh brother this
[31:11]is me and then husin said may God kill those that killed
[31:18]you and may God avenge [Music] you for
