[0:18][Music] say [Music] Imus did not only go with his family tobala
[0:47]but also his companions and most of them are not directly related
[0:53]to but rather those that have seen the prophet sallallahu alaihi Al
[0:59]wasallam as an example like and some of those that didn't but
[1:04]saw and like mus and also some others that only saw IM
[1:10]Hassan and IM Hussein regardless all of them IM Hussein said about
[1:18]them so I have not seen any companions to anyone that are
[1:25]as sincere and as truthful so I think today is very befitting
[1:29]for us to talk about friendships and the linkage between human beings
[1:34]that is established because of that the human being because of his
[1:37]nature he has to have a social construct around him and whether
[1:43]it be dictated by his Lord or whether it be self-made by
[1:46]humans either way all humans all cultures regardless of the amount of
[1:52]knowledge that they have all of them do have social constructs they
[1:58]have certain marriages as I said before maybe decreed by Allah how
[2:01]to do it and what's the exact wording and what are the
[2:06]roles and responsibilities or sometimes self-made such as many sorts of marriage
[2:11]that weren't and aren't going to be accepted by Allah subhanahu wa
[2:14]taala such as uh same gender marriages for instance it's a social
[2:17]construct that was made up by humans and they set their own
[2:23]rules Etc anyway so all in all social constructs is something that
[2:27]is very important for humans as humans and they count for function
[2:30]without them hence why the Quran and Islam were Keen to talk
[2:37]about how Islam fits into social structures because social structures were there
[2:40]since the dawn of time and Islam only recently was revealed by
[2:45]the prophet Muhammad sallam 15 centuries ago so there has to be
[2:51]some sort of compromise there has to be some sort of linkage
[2:57]between both of uh them and Islam indeed revived many Dead social
[3:02]constructs and removed many Li living ones at that time so that
[3:07]the human life would revolve around Allah subhah wa tala instead of
[3:13]being around lusts and selfish wants so now one of the most
[3:17]important social constructs is that of friendship the Quran even referred to
[3:22]it and it said very very clearly that many of those that
[3:29]would be severely let's say regretful and thereafter are those that befriend
[3:35]bad people so that they would be affected by them and hence
[3:38]will lose their chance into going into heaven it says the Quran
[3:44]I wish I didn't take person X which is fulan in Arabic
[3:50]person X is just fan it's a sort of madeup name that
[3:52]is a placeholder and it's very clear that it's a madeup name
[3:58]uh it's just like Laura meum so that is fulan so we
[4:02]always use it in colloquial phrases and in the way we talk
[4:05]we always use we use fulan for example anyways so I wish
[4:10]I didn't take person X as a friend and then it goes
[4:16]on explaining how that the friends in this world will be Fen
[4:19]the thereafter if their friendship is not built upon Solid Ground of
[4:23]belief in Allah subhah wa tala and also in the solid ground
[4:28]of doing good so sometimes you may befriend someone that is not
[4:31]Muslim but both of you befriend each other for the right reasons
[4:33]this will be a good friendship and it may actually Aid that
[4:36]non-believer into going into heaven that is always a possibility Allah subhana
[4:44]T is all merciful and is all Bountiful so there is no
[4:47]limits to Allah's uh cherishment for his creation so anyways now the
[4:54]verses say that the friends would be foes at the thereafter I
[4:59]can't remember the exact wording of the verse so I won't quote
[5:05]it in Arabic but it says that exactly that everything will change
[5:10]into the realistic form it was uh in the world so in
[5:13]the world you may see a good friendship realistically it is a
[5:17]bad one or vice versa so the truth will be exposed at
[5:20]the thereafter so Islam pays huge attention to befriending others and how
[5:26]to and when to and why to and it also Focus is
[5:31]on the intentions not even that also in marriage you may marry
[5:35]for the right reasons you may marry for the wrong reasons regardless
[5:38]if it is the right person or not so sometimes it's the
[5:41]right person but you married for the wrong reason and so the
[5:46]result will never be correct and will never be truly 100% solid
[5:50]hence why many for example divorces happens uh many feuds between friends
[5:55]happen their friendship if that happens or their let's say um marriage
[6:02]is based on something that is not entirely Godly for instance or
[6:09]it may be sometimes it so this is not always 100% of
[6:11]the case but most of the cases it's the way that the
[6:16]world Works in some cases you do everything right but circumstances Subhan
[6:20]Allah the decree of Allah and the destiny that you're written it
[6:25]just uh let's say overrides anything that is um that you have
[6:30]tried it overrides your effort to establish a good friendship or a
[6:38]good marriage so you can't truly ever look at someone and their
[6:42]relationship with another and judge truly whether it was their fault or
[6:47]not unless it is very very clear that the reasons for example
[6:50]are wrong that's the only case so Islam focused on this area
[6:55]when the reasons are wrong to befriend a person or to marry
[6:58]him because friendship is a marriage of sorts and marriage is a
[7:01]friendship of sorts so these social constructs that have been present since
[7:06]the dawn of time Islam came to regulate the relationship between the
[7:12]two parties so that it will be a bountiful friendship leading to
[7:16]something like the companions of IM hus in which he said that
[7:20]there are no companions to any person other than me on this
[7:24]Earth that had such a good group and so you may ask
[7:28]what about the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam didn't he have good
[7:33]companions around him yes of course he had good companions but also
[7:37]had some very very very bad ones and that is very prevalent
[7:41]from the chapter of the Hypocrites and it says there are from
[7:51]the people of Medina that claim to to love you and to
[7:56]be your friends that are very hypocritical we know them and you
[8:00]do not so essentially what what would in comparison let's say Al
[8:07]IM Hussein sifted through his companions very well to the extent and
[8:12]you may not have heard that before but it is something that
[8:15]is very let's say obvious from looking at the narration betweenus and
[8:20]his friends which is that he actually refused most of the people
[8:28]that came to Aid him for several reasons one reason may be
[8:32]that they have uh for example debts to pay and no one
[8:37]else to pay it for them they have some responsibilities that no
[8:41]no other than them could carry on um and some of them
[8:44]were actually ready to give their riches for Al Hussein to help
[8:49]him in war but he said there was actually this guy I'll
[8:51]just say the narration so a guy came to IM Hussein and
[8:55]told him that I can't go with carala to you but my
[9:00]for my horse is equal to a th horses and uh my
[9:04]sword is equal to a th so take them it may Aid
[9:05]you in war so he said if you don't come we don't
[9:08]need your horse nor your sword and so he's looking for people
[9:13]that are sincere because he knew that that person actually did not
[9:16]want to go out of fear only while the issue of fear
[9:21]actually is something that we need to tap into and see the
[9:24]reasons behind because fear the problem with it is that it is
[9:28]a very strong tool to move people around towards things and away
[9:34]from others towards the Dynasty and away from as an example that
[9:38]happened inala so fear-mongering and the the propaganda that uh the umay
[9:44]had done at that time caused many people to sdes you've heard
[9:47]about Muslim just recently and um I mean of course you've heard
[9:53]about him before but within the lectures um in the previous days
[9:57]you've heard about musl and that he had a strong Army of
[10:02]about 4,000 people and when you're talking about 4,000 people at that
[10:05]time it's not like 4,000 people at this time and you see
[10:07]year by year the amount of humans is exponentially increasing and getting
[10:12]more and more enlarged and and inflated uh to an extent that
[10:20]many of the scientists let's say and the researchers and analysts say
[10:24]that the whole system of the world will implode under its own
[10:28]weight the financial system namely and that maybe we may refer to
[10:32]in in other lectures talking about how riba or um taking let's
[10:38]say um um an amount and percentage extra to the debt uh
[10:43]interest essentially caused the the inflation that we have today anyways so
[10:48]going back to this issue Imus with his friends he sifted them
[10:56]and sifted through them and chose them very carefully so that he
[11:00]will not have except for those that are very very very sincere
[11:03]to him and this comes to show when Zam came to Al
[11:09]IM Hussein and told her I want you to test your companions
[11:12]would they stand with us if push comes to shove or will
[11:16]they run away and flee so then they came they heard her
[11:21]they came and they promised and pledged Allegiance and said if they
[11:25]were to kill us a thousand times and crucify us and then
[11:28]burn us and then throw our ashes all over the world for
[11:33]and then they would do that a thousand times again we would
[11:37]never leave IM Hussein IM Hussein several times within carala he went
[11:42]to his companions telling them that the night has come and it
[11:51]is a veil for you so go and consider it as your
[11:53]ride away from carala and your ticket to freedom and your ticket
[11:59]to living for many years to come after this day so they
[12:02]refused and they said that in the time of Peace we seek
[12:08]you wherever you are how could we leave you in the time
[12:11]of War so now when we befriend people and when we marry
[12:17]people there has to be conditions to this uh marriage or to
[12:20]this friendship to this relation let's call that first of all it
[12:24]needs to be based on Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala so it's not
[12:30]only for seeking benefits it's not only to have a good time
[12:37]and pleasure it's not only for you to be someone that has
[12:40]a large amount of people around him but the centerpiece of your
[12:43]relationship needs to be Allah and his Commandments and this will safe
[12:50]keep you from being pulled towards things that you wouldn't peer pressure
[12:54]is a huge thing and the strongest peer pressure is not from
[12:59]siblings it is actually from friends because we always want to accommodate
[13:04]to them and essentially we think and we'd like to think that
[13:08]we each have one personality and we're all uh always just geared
[13:13]toward keeping pace and being in the same lines of our personality
[13:19]that is entirely not true the reality of this is actually that
[13:23]we have a different personality for each certain person that we meet
[13:27]it is involuntary and you see the effects in which you treat
[13:32]people differently sometimes without any reason at all it's just the way
[13:36]you feel about them and so there are let's say sometimes minute
[13:40]sometimes great differences um in your relationship with those that are around
[13:44]you but it is accommodated by uh let's say the way that
[13:47]you got got to know this person the circumstances around that the
[13:53]reasons for it what you have seen from them what they have
[13:55]seen from you previous experiences um your own upbringing that all comes
[14:00]into a weird mix that is wired and then interacted with interactive
[14:05]with um each other you know each part of what I just
[14:09]said it interacts with the other part and formulates then the personality
[14:12]that you meet them and greet them with and the personality that
[14:21]they meet and greet you so regardless of the many personalities that
[14:25]we have friends will always sway us and so there are actually
[14:29]narration that says that say don't befriend someone except if he is
[14:34]better than you in your eyes so that you would benefit from
[14:38]him and he would uplift you towards better levels whether it be
[14:43]um let's say Financial religious any way shape or form and obeying
[14:50]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala in your relation with the others is the
[14:54]greatest part of what formulates a good relationship sometimes we may know
[14:58]what Allah subhana wa tala is asking for from us but we
[15:00]don't necessarily follow suit so following suit in Allah's plan is Paramount
[15:06]so that we would actually live a life free of stress think
[15:12]about the stressful relationships that you are in whether it be a
[15:16]marriage or whether it be a friendship or otherwise think about it
[15:21]and think about this issue is Allah subhah wa ta'ala and the
[15:26]love of Allah and the love of his religion and the following
[15:29]of his Commandments is that or was that the base for this
[15:34]relationship is that relationship governed by religion or is religion out of
[15:38]the equation it's just two minds just constantly communicating with each other
[15:43]and making up plans and enjoying their time so IM Hussein and
[15:51]you you may find this very splendorous and it is he actually
[15:55]seek out some people that didn't know him as well and befriended
[16:01]them and took them for martyrdom to give them the greatest gift
[16:05]of all because being a martyr of the Hussein is something that
[16:09]you couldn't buy with all the money in the world you could
[16:11]only buy it with or with good let's say uh Fortune from
[16:17]Allah subhah wa tala I can't call it luck because luck is
[16:19]based on pure coincidence and we as Muslims we believe in destiny
[16:25]not coincidence even let's say you walking out and then having a
[16:29]good or a bad thing good thing like meeting a friend bad
[16:33]thing like having an incident to your car God forbid that is
[16:38]all from what what Allah subhah wa T has written upon you
[16:41]in Fai so Al IM Hussein for instance went to wahab which
[16:48]was a Christian at time and wahab was living actually in the
[16:52]deserts with his mother and with his wife so when im Hussein
[16:55]went to him when he actually went went to call him into
[17:01]the ranks of the martyrs of carala the greatest Martyrs of all
[17:04]time he went and he didn't see him but he saw his
[17:11]mother so he told her if your son returns back tell him
[17:16]that the son of the Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaih wasallam called Hussein
[17:18]came for him and we will be in such and such place
[17:22]so he left and when Imam Hussein went there was a miracle
[17:28]which was that the ground turned from B desert into Lush greens
[17:32]and that was something that they were all astonished from so because
[17:36]of that when wahab returned he actually didn't know where his house
[17:41]was there were even Springs of water to Spring out of the
[17:44]earth just because of the coming of the of Al IM Hussein
[17:49]so when he went to his mom she said oh son there
[17:50]was a person that carries the hugest resemblance to Isa Jesus and
[17:56]when he came the ground FL flourished under him and the water
[18:02]sprung and he said that he wants you with him and he's
[18:07]in such such place so he said Subhan Allah I need to
[18:12]go right now and I will go with him and get martyred
[18:16]with him he knew just basic knowledge regarding Hussein this may be
[18:20]the first meet between them two but he knew what im Hussein
[18:22]stands up for and not only did he go but he took
[18:27]his mother and he took his wife and they went with the
[18:32]Caravan um from the place that they were in until close to
[18:35]kufa then to carala then to the 11th and then back to
[18:40]al- Medina and Al IM Hussein several times would talk to his
[18:43]mother or his wife or or talk to wahab himself and telling
[18:48]them about the great Bounty that Allah subhana tala has hid for
[18:52]them and they of course became Muslim they reverted and after that
[18:56]he was martyred in carala and his mother was actually very happy
[19:00]that that had happened this is the caliber that IM Hussein was
[19:05]looking for in those that are going to be his companions and
[19:10]so choosing a companion choosing a spouse choosing someone that is close
[19:17]to you shouldn't be taken lightly if it is going to be
[19:19]taken lightly then the result of that is that we will be
[19:21]forever restless and as I said think of the bad relationships that
[19:27]you have the toxic relationships that you have and you'd see that
[19:30]Allah subhana T does not accept them especially toxic relationships uh Imam
[19:35]Ali peace be upon him has said that love whoever you want
[19:42]and you will be his slave this is a metaphor because slaves
[19:45]do exactly what their masters want except uh and if they don't
[19:51]do that then they will be severely punished um and that is
[19:55]a general thing that slaves were subjugated to in Arabia and also
[19:59]around the world before Islam read Arabia and read uh the Muslims
[20:05]from slavery so he says this so if you love someone you
[20:10]are handing him the keys to your heart they could either help
[20:16]it FL flourish or poison it until it dies so my advice
[20:20]my true advice if someone is passing through something like that whether
[20:24]it be with his child I mean there is no let's say
[20:31]connection and true um let's say kin between a son and his
[20:34]mother or father they have to deal with this as soon as
[20:38]possible even by going to Specialists like um a relationship for example
[20:43]C uh counselers or you know things like that but any way
[20:47]and shape and form of a solution would be plausible and acceptable
[20:52]as long as it abides by the rings of Allah subhah wa
[20:54]ta'ala so one must Tred as much as possible especially if the
[21:00]problem between him and the other person is a a blood relation
[21:03]and and there is a problem even though that then this needs
[21:06]to be fixed but if it is not a blood relation then
[21:10]there are many friendships that we're really much better off cutting out
[21:14]and there are many spouses that will never ever come to terms
[21:21]I mean going to marriage counseling is excellent and them trying to
[21:25]resolve it between themselves is excellent however there are some marri that
[21:31]are doomed and the only thing that is standing between the breakage
[21:34]of the bond is the actual acceptance of the two parties that
[21:40]we can't ever make this work so Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala not
[21:44]only tells us that we must maintain a good relation with others
[21:47]but also a good relation with self so we can't always be
[21:52]the ones to be the down uh let's say the the the
[21:54]the lower part of the relationship and the part that is always
[21:59]noten listen to the part that always doesn't get a word in
[22:02]or doesn't get um his wants supplied and actually the worst sort
[22:10]of relationship ever is the relationship in which you are always giving
[22:14]and never receiving always giving love giving attention giving peace giving but
[22:19]you're receiving problems um the other way this could never be salvaged
[22:25]and almost 99.99% of these sorts of relationship are doomed look for
[22:32]example at soad had a choice to join yazid or not and
[22:39]he actually was reluctant believe it or not to go because he
[22:42]knows who Al Hussein is he's a good guy why would I
[22:43]fight him even bad guys you know people as pure as husse
[22:48]they wouldn't want to fight them so he said um he's was
[22:55]contemplating between himself um let me remember it so promised him that
[23:12]he will give him government ship of R which is an area
[23:14]between Iraq and current Day Iran and that was enough for him
[23:22]to contemplate actually fighting hus but then he went you know like
[23:28]head first into the fight and and you know was very terrible
[23:30]at treating Al Hussein so he's not a good guy at all
[23:35]he's a really bad guy so he befriended yazid and yazid befriended
[23:38]him only to kill Al Hussein and he befriended Hussein sorry and
[23:42]he befriended yazid only to get the government ship of Ray and
[23:47]the result that after he killed Hussein yazid did not give him
[23:50]Ray and he fell badly away from yazid and and their friendship
[23:56]and their relation broke entirely so if you look at carala it
[24:00]gives you a good example of both parties I imagine in these
[24:04]nights that the companions of Al IM Hussein would come to him
[24:11]consoling him and telling him oh Hussein we will forever be with
[24:18]you for you are the daughter for you are the son of
[24:21]the daughter of our savior Muhammed and when went to her brother
[24:35]telling him oh Hussein please ask your companions if they would stand
[24:41]with us or leave us when they attack us so then El
[24:47]Hussein called upon those that are aiding him from his companions and
[24:55]he told them and so they said oh Hussein we will forever
[25:06]be with you so take us as a sword you take to
[25:09]battle and indeed those companions went and they attacked the enemies until
[25:21]no one was left from them so imagine Al Hussein calling upon
[25:31]them and telling them oh Lions of the battle oh Spears of
[25:41]my fight why do I call upon you and you don't reply
[25:44]did Death stop between me and you if that's the case then
[25:57]imag with no companion around him and only his family members remain
[26:12]remembering Habib z b and all those that aided [Music] alusin and
[26:27]in one situation when John the slave was martyred or about to
[26:39]be martyred and Hussein came to him and told [Applause] him and
[26:46]so he said [Music] so he said oh Hussein have intercedes between
[27:10]me and Allah so he so Hussein cried and bent over him
[27:20]looking at him as a body that is slashed from head to
[27:23]toe with wounds gushing all around and he put his cheek upon
[27:32]his cheek and said oh Allah have mercy on your slave that
[27:37]has aided me in my battle Grant him J and so John
[27:43]passed [Applause] away for
