[1:56]day of celebration that Allah subhana WA Ta'ala has given this Ummah
[2:03]and the religion of Islam we have four aids one is a
[2:10]10 foot which marks the end of the month of Ramadhan the
[2:14]second was last week ADA navaja the tenth of the Nadja the
[2:23]third is every week on Friday it's a day in which we
[2:26]see closeness to allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala therefore it's a day of eid
[2:34]we gather with family members friends it's a wonderful day the fourth
[2:41]and the greatest of all aids is reading a deal because on
[2:45]this day allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala completed the religion for us on this
[2:52]day Allah subhana WA Ta'ala accepted the religion of Islam for us
[3:00]human beings it is the greatest aid that Allah subhana WA Ta'ala
[3:06]has given humanity on this day Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala commanded his
[3:13]messenger the holy prophet peace be upon him and his family to
[3:18]appoint the leader who would lead this Ummah to appoint a man
[3:29]who completed the religion of god the holy quran says on this
[3:33]day the religion was completed completed with what with the authority and
[3:37]the leadership and the will ayah of imam ali IBN ABI talib
[3:40]alehissalaam this amazing leader whom we have neglect neglect it for 14
[3:51]centuries the world has not done justice to this amazing leader whom
[3:55]Allah subhana WA Ta'ala has appointed for humanity the commander of the
[4:03]faithful Emir on minion Salam Allahu Allah on that day on the
[4:08]day of Eid or the 18th of the Hodja the Messenger of
[4:15]God made a very important prayer he said o Allah befriend whoever
[4:23]befriends him support whoever supports him and be the enemy of the
[4:28]one who is an enemy to Allah even a butte on it
[4:33]it is our goal in this life to make ourselves respected brothers
[4:41]and sisters included in the dua of the Prophet because he prayed
[4:47]for everyone who supports Imam Ali o Allah support the one who
[4:52]supports Elizabeth on it how does this journey of supporting the Iman
[4:56]begin first it starts by knowing the Imam do I really know
[5:04]my leader the significance and position of my leader the qualities of
[5:08]my leader what he represents what he symbolizes do I know this
[5:12]or not does my family know this or not do my children
[5:18]know this or not the first step is to know the Imam
[5:23]to know his contributions we the followers of a debate we speak
[5:27]of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib on his Salam so proudly he's
[5:32]a man of accomplishments and contributions to humanity but ask the average
[5:38]person what are the contributions of the Imam what did he offer
[5:44]to humanity unfortunately because some are not educated about the position of
[5:51]the Imam they're clueless they have no idea 14 centuries later how
[5:58]do i benefit from the path of ali IBN ABI talib what
[6:03]did he offer for Humanity many people are not aware of the
[6:06]achievements and the contributions and the accomplished judgments of imam ali IBN
[6:12]abu talib al salam and we've done a great act of injustice
[6:16]against the imam by neglecting his contributions and not using them today
[6:24]to solve our modern global problems ma'am not even have you thought
[6:31]about his son I've had many contributions but this evening respected brothers
[6:36]and sisters I would like to share with you one significant and
[6:40]important aspect in which the Imam Ali Salaam offered an invaluable contribution
[6:50]to humanity one that we really need today we are in a
[6:59]dire need for this contribution that Imam Ali may be Lalibela Salaam
[7:04]presented to humanity this contribution is the Imams strategies in combating poverty
[7:12]this is very important the Imam Ali Salaam developed an amazing strategy
[7:20]to eliminate poverty to minimize poverty to deliver a solution to this
[7:30]historical global problem that every society suffers from a mammal even a
[7:37]banana Bonnie Salam when he speaks of poverty he makes us realize
[7:42]that there are two types of poverty because when you hear about
[7:45]the word poverty what do you think immediately your mind goes to
[7:52]Africa and you picture a child who's starving right or some homeless
[7:57]person begging on the street these are the images that come to
[8:01]our mind when we hear the word poverty but is this the
[8:07]only type of poverty that exists what does Imam Ali have never
[8:11]thought about Islam say about poverty before we examine what is solution
[8:16]was in eliminating poverty in my money of navya Taliban in Salem
[8:21]brings to our attention that there are two types of poverty you've
[8:26]got the material physical poverty when someone lacks basic necessities someone who's
[8:33]poor who's financially in trouble let's say who does not have money
[8:38]that's one type the second type of poverty that the imam ali
[8:50]salam speaks about is spiritual poverty non material poverty non physical poverty
[8:59]and the imam ali salam points out to three types of non
[9:04]material poverty the first type of poverty that the imam ali salaam
[9:10]addresses in his sermons through his actions is intellectual poverty we see
[9:20]that imam ali bin abu talib on his salaam famously said la
[9:28]Xena can Adam what a I can jam Ramon ELISA Lam says
[9:33]there is no richness like the intellect and there is no poverty
[9:42]like ignorance someone can have billions of dollars could be the richest
[9:47]person but if this person is not intellectually rich intellectually mature according
[9:53]to the Imam Ali Salaam this person is what this port he
[9:58]really doesn't have anything you know that's why they say if you
[10:03]think education is expensive try ignorance ignorance is very costly you could
[10:12]have all the resources around you but because of ignorance because of
[10:20]the lack of intellectual maturity you're actually poor the Amana Aslam brings
[10:28]our attention to this fundamental point too advance to progress to enrich
[10:35]yourselves your families you need to develop your intellectual capacity you need
[10:41]to seek knowledge from the cradle to the grave not to waste
[10:46]a single minute any of your life not advancing intellectually and subhanAllah
[10:53]today when you have for example economists psychologists sociologists when they examine
[11:05]the roots of poverty the causes of poverty they've come to the
[11:10]conclusion that the biggest factor or one of the biggest factors that
[11:15]contribute to poverty is ignorant it's lack of education one reason why
[11:21]Western nations are so advanced is because of their educational system because
[11:26]of the schools the colleges the universities here in the United States
[11:30]we have over 7,000 colleges and universities this gives you development this
[11:37]gives you a strong economy the man honey salaam focuses on this
[11:44]and this is extremely important on the other hand the imam ali
[11:50]salam says that there is no poverty like being unwise like foolishness
[11:59]akbar own and hunc foolishness is the worst type of poverty it
[12:05]destroys one's life you see for example a father who's not responsible
[12:11]who's foolish he ruins his life the same could apply to a
[12:17]mother to a community leader to a head of state we've had
[12:20]heads of states Prime Minister's leaders Kings whatever you want to call
[12:29]them who ruined their entire society because of foolishness see what's going
[12:35]on in some parts of the world see what's going on in
[12:38]some parts of the Middle East absolute foolish no respect for knowledge
[12:46]no respect for the intellect many of the decisions are based on
[12:51]foolishness and you see what's happening there they're burning the whole region
[12:58]with that foolishness so this is one type of poverty that the
[13:02]imam ali salam speaks about the second type of poverty the imam
[13:10]ali salam speaks about we're talking about a material poverty poverty that's
[13:15]not physical or material it's the poverty of the self or the
[13:21]poverty of self-esteem what does the imam ali salam say in one
[13:32]hadith he says shall rule or Neffs the most evil wretched type
[13:39]of poverty is the poverty of the self what does that mean
[13:43]how can someone self be poor there are some people in this
[13:51]life they have a rich self they deal with everything with a
[13:55]positive attitude with a good positive attitude with good Aslam when they
[14:05]look at other people in society they wish well for them they
[14:09]want the goodness for everyone they want to see everyone successful around
[14:13]them they have a rich self they're generous on the other hand
[14:17]you have some people in society the exact opposite if his friend
[14:26]advances he's envious and he doesn't feel good about it if his
[14:31]neighbor has something which he does not have that upsets him and
[14:35]disappoints him they have a poor self they don't want goodness for
[14:46]other people they don't have a big heart a big chest one
[14:49]of the signs of the believers is that their big hearted when
[14:57]it comes to the difficulties of lives hardships dealing with others they
[15:00]have a big heart they're gentle they're sweet they're generous and they
[15:07]want goodness for everyone some people unfortunately they're inflicted with the poverty
[15:15]of the self their self is very low they can't handle anything
[15:19]they don't want to see anyone progress and succeed except themselves the
[15:25]Amana asylum says this is the most evil type of poverty first
[15:29]of all such people don't really enjoy their lives they're always you
[15:36]know going through difficulties and they're on their nerves when someone gets
[15:41]married someone has a child someone buys a house everything agitates them
[15:46]everything disappoints them they just can't be happy for other people first
[15:53]of all these people themselves they're not really happy they're always concerned
[15:56]about others secondly these people in the long term they will harm
[16:05]others in society they talk about them they ruin the reputation of
[16:09]others whenever they get the chance to destroy someone's life they'll take
[16:13]that chance because they don't want to see anyone achieve progress so
[16:18]this is the second type of poverty and the third type of
[16:25]poverty that the imam ali salam speaks about which is not material
[16:31]the a man speaks about religious poverty the one who has abandoned
[16:37]his religion who's abandoned his religious obligations in the eyes of i
[16:43]did not be upon about insulin this person is poor he could
[16:48]have all the money in the world but if he's abandoned god
[16:50]he doesn't have a good relationship with god he's not obeying the
[16:55]commands of god this person is poor what does he have what
[16:59]has he prepared for his oxalá for the hereafter what does he
[17:06]have this sinners poor and the hadith Imam Ali Salaam says and
[17:11]Kurosawa do what chief it during the Imam a nice Aram says
[17:15]the real poverty is to be miserable in this world and on
[17:22]the day of judgement and the one who neglects religious values believe
[17:26]me brothers and sisters this person will be miserable in this world
[17:30]and on the day of judgement our religious values enrich us they
[17:44]enrich our spirit one day a poor man walked to visit an
[17:48]imam asada fan in Salaam his face was gloomy he was upset
[17:53]the Imam realized this man there's something wrong with him the amani
[17:56]salaam asked him what's wrong with you he was one of the
[18:01]companions of an imam sadiq ali Silla he told him Oh Imam
[18:03]you know I'm poor financially I'm struggling I'm going through problems and
[18:08]I'm just not in a good mood not in a good state
[18:12]the imam ali salaam asked him an interesting question the imam told
[18:19]him this faith that you have the Eman that you have the
[18:25]will ayah that you have are you willing to sell it if
[18:28]you could theoretically are you willing to sell it for one hundred
[18:32]thousand golden coins Dean arms are you willing or no now he
[18:40]was a faithful man a good believer he said no of course
[18:46]not I'm not willing the Imam and he said I'm tells him
[18:48]are you sure he says yes I'm sure I'm not willing the
[18:52]Imam Hani Salaam tells him how can you claim that you're poor
[18:56]when you own something that's worth one hundred thousand golden coins and
[19:02]you're not willing to sell it you're poor when you own something
[19:10]so valuable he learned his lesson he realized the lesson that the
[19:14]Imam and his salam was teaching him sallou ala muhammad wari Muhammad
[19:23]the Hani Salaam explained to him you're rich don't consider yourself to
[19:31]be poor you're very rich if you have the love for allah
[19:35]subhanaw taala di handle bait and the proper belief you're very rich
[19:39]because that's what richness is to have faith in allah subhana wa
[19:50]ta'ala and the idol bait peace be upon them and to be
[19:53]only in need to allah subhana wa ta'ala and one interesting hadith
[20:00]prophet ISA audience Allah Jesus peace be upon him he speaks about
[20:04]how humble he is how he doesn't really own anything he says
[20:12]my mode of transportation is what a nice Mercedes no my mode
[20:19]of transportation are my two legs that's how I travel he did
[20:22]not own a horse or a mule to travel he would travel
[20:28]on feet he says my pillow is not a comfortable pillow that
[20:32]we use it's the earth the rocks my bed is the earth
[20:39]my blanket is the sky I sleep under the stars he really
[20:47]didn't own anything he was very very humble but then he says
[20:51]something interesting he says however there is not someone on the face
[20:56]of the planet who's richer than I am there's no one richer
[21:04]than a sadist said I'm during its time because everyone else is
[21:09]in need to this materialistic life except him he was the least
[21:15]one who was in need and that's the true richness and therefore
[21:19]we see imam ali IBN ABI talib al salam beautifully making this
[21:24]door and supplication when he says allah humma listen to the dr
[21:30]amir minion artists and I'm it's truly amazing the words that he
[21:39]uses the meanings that he conveys Allah homogeny been lifted re awake
[21:48]he says o Allah enrich me how by making me in need
[21:57]of you oh allah enrich me by impoverishing me to you and
[22:02]do not make me poor by making me not needing you beautiful
[22:10]doll from the imam you want to be rich be only in
[22:13]need to allah subhana wa ta'ala connect yourself with the source of
[22:19]all richness in the world and you'll be the richest person to
[22:22]be in need only to God not to this materialistic life to
[22:30]your wealth to be gadgets that you own to your car to
[22:34]your house to your bank account only truly feel and need to
[22:37]allah subhanho wa taala that's the true richness imam ali bin ABI
[22:45]talib on his Salam beautifully addresses this type of poverty but this
[22:50]is the first time how about the second type of poverty where
[22:55]someone lacks basic needs is there anything that we can learn from
[23:02]imam ali of nabi Lyla - Salam in this regard and secondly
[23:05]is this really relevant to us I'm sure some of you are
[23:10]wondering okay I don't think there's someone here who's starving who's really
[23:15]poor who's homeless does this really apply to us is this really
[23:19]relevant this is relevant for two reasons mothers and sisters the first
[23:25]reason is that today we have a global challenge of human beings
[23:31]suffering and honestly most of us don't care and we're not doing
[23:40]anything there are 2.8 billion people who live on less than $2
[23:48]a day $2.00 a day 2.8 billion people it's almost like half
[23:53]of the world's population for us $2 is nothing right it's just
[24:00]pocket change but there are people who live on $2 and there
[24:03]are 1.2 billion people today who live on less than $1 a
[24:14]day $1 $30 a month for a whole month all that they
[24:17]can earn is $30 you go to Starbucks or Tim Hortons and
[24:23]you spend easily 3040 dollars with your friends and these people an
[24:30]entire month all they get an urn is $30 every single day
[24:34]brothers and sisters 30,000 children died because of poverty and malnourishment we
[24:44]don't have a responsibility several years ago I read an article in
[24:50]The New York Times about some woman in some of the villages
[24:57]of India in Bombay specifically and it mentioned that in one specific
[25:04]area of bonding 300 woman had to share one bathroom 300 can
[25:10]you can you just imagine that can you imagine these living conditions
[25:17]people are suffering we have a responsibility on the day of judgement
[25:22]Allah subhana WA Ta'ala will hold me accountable what did you do
[25:31]to alleviate the suffering you were busy with your own life comfortable
[25:34]and you didn't care about these people Allah has made us responsible
[25:37]so this is one reason why need to why we need to
[25:43]bring our attention to this point the second reason why this is
[25:46]relevant and this is more important than the first many of us
[25:49]when we think of poverty and people suffering around the world we
[25:54]tell ourselves I'm not responsible I don't make these decisions I'm not
[26:00]running the country I'm not in charge of the World Bank it's
[26:03]not my business I didn't put these people into that situation many
[26:10]people think that but when you analyze your life our consumption our
[26:17]lifestyle we come to the conclusion that all of us brothers and
[26:21]sisters are responsible for the suffering because of the way in which
[26:26]we use our resources we're all responsible with his ancestors Americans spend
[26:34]ten trillion dollars a year shopping when there are people starving around
[26:40]the world we spend ten trillion dollars on shopping and most of
[26:47]the shopping we do we really don't need these days shopping has
[26:51]become a leisure activity you don't go shopping because you really need
[26:55]it you're bored on the weekend you call your friends let's go
[26:58]to the mall and then you end up spending your money there
[27:02]and there are people suffering we're wasting a lot of resources Americans
[27:08]every year spend 91 billion dollars on beer we spent 65 billion
[27:16]dollars on soda and soft drinks 37 billion dollars on gambling 17
[27:24]billion dollars on video games kids playing video games 17 billion dollars
[27:31]just on Valentine's Americans spent 13 billion dollars and just for the
[27:41]flowers of Valentine's Day how much do you think Americans spend just
[27:45]for the flowers forget the candy and other things 1.7 billion dollars
[27:51]now when you factor in the other types of spending that we
[28:02]have the candy the parties the events it's truly mind-boggling now if
[28:06]we were using all these reefs or okay fine at least we
[28:13]could say we're putting it to good use a lot of this
[28:18]is wasted brothers and sisters Americans annually every single year they waste
[28:23]180 billion dollars of food 180 billion do you know how much
[28:33]that is the GDP of tens of countries is not one hundred
[28:36]eighty billion and we're wasting all this food fifty percent of all
[28:45]the food the produce in the US and ZUP in the trash
[28:48]its wasted 30 percent of the food that we buy from the
[28:54]grocery store from Walmart from Meijer wherever you shop from 30 percent
[28:59]of edible food food that's fresh I'm not talking about rotten food
[29:05]that you throw in the trash though we're talking about perfectly fresh
[29:10]food 30 percent of it ends up in the trash don't tell
[29:18]me we're not responsible everyone is responsible when there are millions of
[29:27]people suffering and starving and 30 percent of the food that we
[29:30]buy ends up in the trash a less panettone is not going
[29:37]to hold us accountable if we want to honor the path of
[29:42]amirul mumineen alayhis-salam this man who was so concerned about poverty and
[29:48]he did what he could to eliminate poverty from society then how
[29:53]can we be truly followers of the imam Allanson on this day
[29:59]let us make a commitment with our imam om i'm on this
[30:03]day a lot declared you as a leader for Humanity and you've
[30:08]had so many contributions on this day I will honor your contributions
[30:13]by following into your footsteps the Imam Ali Saddam what he did
[30:20]was nothing short of a miracle within four years he eliminated hunger
[30:24]and starvation in his society more than four years and what four
[30:29]years worthy civil wars attacks everyday controversy controversies and conspiracies every single
[30:41]day against them yet the amantani said I managed to solve the
[30:45]problem of severe poverty we need to introduce him am i leaving
[30:52]ABI talib on Islam to the world what the world to know
[30:55]how the Imam eliminated poverty I will share with you very briefly
[30:59]some steps that Imam Ali bin Abi Talib and his son took
[31:05]in his government during those four years when he ruled the Muslim
[31:10]Ummah to eliminate poverty the first step is very simple the Imam
[31:16]Ali Salaam simply implemented the laws of allah subhanaw taala such as
[31:20]which law allows vanity allah says in the holy quran tell italicum
[31:28]my fill out of the jamia and allah has created for you
[31:32]everyone jemmye and every human being not one royal family every human
[31:39]being Allah has created the resources for everyone all the resources that
[31:47]you find on earth or for people not for a group to
[31:49]hoard them in the government of imam ali IBN ABI talib al
[31:54]salam when it came to the natural resources and even the lands
[31:58]and territories the Imam did not own them he made them available
[32:03]for everyone because the Prophet peace be upon him said Allah Allah
[32:08]Allah Allah monomer AHA land belongs to God and the one who
[32:11]develops it anyone who would go develop a land and the government
[32:17]of the Prophet and imam ali IBN ABI talib on his son
[32:20]he would own this land imagine if today this law would be
[32:23]implemented and it is implemented in the west by the way that's
[32:28]why we see so much economic advancement in the west to an
[32:31]extent this is implemented here but look at the Middle East a
[32:36]country like Saudi Arabia which lives on an ocean of oil and
[32:43]wealth 50% of Saudis they don't own their lands or homes 50%
[32:47]because this law is not implemented and the government of the Imam
[32:54]Hani Salaam this was implemented the Imam would simply oversee that someone
[33:00]would not take more than what they deserve imagine how this could
[33:06]solve the problem of unemployment so many of our youth these days
[33:14]they can't get married they can't own a house imagine if today
[33:17]in many parts of the world the government issues a decree that
[33:21]if you develop a piece of land it's yours you're entitled to
[33:28]it by developing it you think anyone would stay unemployed this will
[33:34]give the youth motivation and an incentive to call and build a
[33:38]house because the land is free it's made available by allah subhanho
[33:44]wa taala and subhanAllah when you go to some V some of
[33:48]some of these countries and cities the city itself is so overpopulated
[33:52]jammed with traffic and pollution and the population density is so high
[33:59]you would think that this country's so small they don't have land
[34:03]the minute you go on the freeway and you leave three minutes
[34:08]later you're in the desert you don't see a single building upon
[34:12]Allah what's going on Allah is giving you all this land and
[34:20]you've jammed yourselves in a small city and now the youth and
[34:24]many people they can't afford to buy property so the Imam Hani
[34:27]Salaam he implemented this the second way in which the imam ali
[34:37]salam combatted poverty when you examine the letter he wrote to his
[34:42]governor Malik Ashtar mallika Lester was the governor where in Egypt the
[34:48]Imam appointed him he writes in a beautiful letter teaching him how
[34:52]to deal with the people and how to run his government he
[34:56]tells him Oh Malik it's a beautiful letter I urge everyone to
[35:02]study this especially our students and college students study the words of
[35:06]your Imam we studied the words of everyone all the scientists psychologists
[35:12]we study them Freud we know all about him and what he
[35:17]said Durkheim in the field of medicine we know all the theories
[35:23]and scientists but when it comes to him I'll even have you
[35:25]thought about it soon and we have no clue what his teachings
[35:30]are study this brothers and sisters the Imam Ali Salaam he tells
[35:36]him Oh Malik Walia Cannavaro kaffir a marital Arif a beloved woman
[35:42]Navarra Kepha stage lab al Hajj he says Oh Monica be more
[35:51]concerned with the development of land then you are concerned with taxing
[35:57]the people yes the government needs to tax the people in order
[36:01]to offer services for the people but Manik don't make that your
[36:07]major concern help the people develop and cultivate their lands because once
[36:11]people develop their lands and they cultivate them automatically you will get
[36:17]tax revenue from the people but don't go oppressing the people and
[36:22]suffocating them and stifling them with high tax and therefore you would
[36:31]stop or slow development if this rule was only implemented brothers and
[36:36]sisters in some parts of the world we would have no issues
[36:38]you would see the economy flourishing so this is the second strategy
[36:43]the third strategy that the Imam Hani Salaam used in combating poverty
[36:49]was the amazing welfare system which he instituted the West is proud
[36:56]for the welfare system that we right especially in some European countries
[37:02]where health care is free to everyone Imam Ali bin Abi Talib
[37:09]and Salaam established the welfare system 14 centuries ago in his letter
[37:15]to Monika Lester he tells him all Malik I want you to
[37:17]focus on a group of people and he mentions them there are
[37:23]three there four or five groups number one religious minorities if someone
[37:29]comes from another religion and they have no support system Oh Malik
[37:33]I want you to give that person income from the muslim treasury
[37:40]you've all heard the famous story of the imam walking and seeing
[37:43]that christian man begging and the imam is asking his companions what
[37:46]is this they tell him oh this is just a christian man
[37:50]begging who cares no big deal the Imam says I did not
[37:54]ask who is he I said what is this and my government
[37:56]someone begs why is he begging there like he's unemployed he's jobless
[38:02]and he has no one to support him the Imam says no
[38:04]that's not how you treat him now that he's grown old and
[38:07]weak and he can't help himself now you abandon him and he
[38:15]instructs them to give him a wage from the public funds religious
[38:18]minorities number two the disabled people you know these days were very
[38:24]proud of the services offered to people with disabilities Imam Ali I've
[38:31]never thought of 14 centuries ago he tells my little Ashtar all
[38:35]those people who are disabled they have a medical condition they can't
[38:41]work they're struggling I want you to give them income from the
[38:47]public funds who else a woman who's either divorced and has no
[38:52]one to spend on her as a widow her husband died or
[38:56]she's married but she's got a bad husband who's not spending on
[39:01]her the Imam Mahdi's salam tells Malik Oh Monica make sure that
[39:08]you go and investigate in society and if there is such a
[39:10]woman I want you to give her a salary from the public
[39:16]funds if there is someone who is in debt he's stuck in
[39:20]debt and he can't get himself out of debt help him Oh
[39:25]Manik this is the welfare system that the Imam Annie's Salaam implemented
[39:30]so this is this third strategy the fourth strategy that the Imam
[39:36]alehissalaam used in combating poverty brothers and sisters and I'm going through
[39:41]these very briefly is that the Imam alayhis-salam he equally distributed the
[39:50]resources of his government something no government has been able to do
[39:55]in history except his government and the government of the Holy Prophet
[40:02]Muhammad sallallahu aleyhi wa it's the justice of imam ali if not
[40:09]be a taliban in salaam when it comes to distributing the resources
[40:15]of society and this is why alia be upon him was fought
[40:20]because not everyone wants justice there are some groups who believe they're
[40:28]superior to others they want more Oh Ali how dare you equate
[40:34]us with others and you give us the same no this is
[40:37]not acceptable it's the justice of Imam Ali have you thought about
[40:41]a is Salaam that created enemies for him people who were concerned
[40:46]about their selfish interests they rejected the justice of Amir al-mumineen alehissalaam
[40:54]now unfortunately the leaders and the caliphs who ruled before Imam Ali
[41:00]admire be upon the bodies Salam they created social stratification and they
[41:08]made certain groups more privileged than others and so when the a
[41:15]man came and he changed that many groups were upset yes when
[41:18]you look at the life of the second Khalifa Omar abdul-fattah we
[41:22]see that in his government he did not destroy the money equally
[41:27]no there were some people he would give them special attention the
[41:33]Prophet had several wives nine wives or twelve wives he singled out
[41:40]two of them I shan't Hafsah he gave them a salary more
[41:45]than others wine what was this based on is it his father's
[41:48]money for him to decide whom he should give more than others
[41:53]mom an even have you thought about Islam rejected this he says
[41:57]no all the wives of the Prophet they're equal they get the
[42:02]same salary some didn't like it this was a problem but has
[42:05]obey Abdul Rahman even Alf why do you think these companions turned
[42:09]against him I'm Ali because when Earth man was in power when
[42:14]Rama was in power they would get more they had a larger
[42:17]share of the resources and the money that was being distributed when
[42:22]imam ali IBN ABI talib and his salaam came he ended them
[42:26]they came to him o ali so-and-so would give us more but
[42:29]you're equating us with others you're giving me as much as you
[42:34]give that african slave the Imam says in God's eyes you're all
[42:37]equal you're all humans why should I give you more based on
[42:44]what should I give you more and this agitated many of them
[42:48]and they rejected the Justice of Imam Ali Maradona bodies but in
[42:55]doing so the Imam made sure that no one sleeps hungry he
[43:00]eliminated severe deprivation starvation and poverty another strategy that the Imam alehissalaam
[43:12]used in combating poverty was that he was very careful the government
[43:18]employees that he would bring to his government the Imam had very
[43:23]strict standards not anyone could work first of all one of the
[43:26]qualities the Imam Ali as salaam had stipulated for those who would
[43:32]work for the government is that you had to be generous the
[43:34]Imam does not want stingy people coming to power because he knows
[43:38]when you bring someone who stingy to power he'll hoard everything for
[43:43]himself and he'll deny the people number two they should be qualified
[43:48]educated when you look at some countries today in the world they've
[43:55]got a lot of resources a lot of money but what's their
[43:58]problem lack of qualifications people who are not qualified not educated they
[44:04]don't know what they're doing they're running the country the amount eliminated
[44:09]that in his government number three we see that one of the
[44:13]qualities the Imam and a Salaam made sure that he imposed on
[44:16]government employees is that they should not lean towards a group or
[44:24]look after the interests of a specific group and he would outlaw
[44:28]any form of bribery you know today it's interesting in our Western
[44:36]society yes bribery is illegal if you bribe a politician and the
[44:43]you know officials find out about it it's illegal but we have
[44:47]another type of bribery with a different name and that's what's running
[44:52]our country what is it lobbying and campaign contributions subhanAllah we just
[44:59]changed the word bribery to campaign contributions you know not this last
[45:04]election but the previous one Americans spent six billion dollars on campaign
[45:12]contributions on the elections what do you call that if that's not
[45:17]bribery than what is bribery if there's someone who comes to a
[45:21]government official and he's donated a million dollars you think that official
[45:25]can say no if any corporation comes and donates ten million dollars
[45:30]you think those government officials elected officials they can say no to
[45:34]them and I might even have you thought about he said I'm
[45:38]outlawed all of that this was unacceptable in his government and one
[45:43]of the beautiful fantastic things that the Imam implemented in his government
[45:49]is that he would recruit spies yes spies righteous truthful spies on
[46:01]who under citizens the poor miss keen citizen on whom the Imam
[46:07]tells Malik Ashtar I want you to go and find qualified competent
[46:11]truthful spies and I want these spies to spy on my government
[46:18]officials not the people in the government of Imam Ali no government
[46:23]official had the authority to spy on people this was outlawed in
[46:29]his government the spies were used to monitor the government officials and
[46:35]employees to make sure that they were not oppressing the people this
[46:40]is Ali of navya Thani Bani his Sinha and finally brothers and
[46:44]sisters we see the frugality the humbleness of the Imam and not
[46:53]wasting any resources you know the Imam wrote a letter to all
[46:56]his governors and government employees he told them sharpen your pens see
[47:02]how specific the Imam is today we talk about the environment and
[47:06]being green and not wasting my money on your son I did
[47:10]it 14 centuries ago he tells them sharpen your pens so you're
[47:14]writing because back then you know to get a piece of paper
[47:20]was very costly even pens were costly the Imam told them sharpen
[47:24]your pens so that your writing would be small and you could
[47:27]fit more writing on the paper and the lines in which you
[47:33]write and make sure their clotheslines don't leave any gaps these were
[47:38]the instructions of Imam Ali bin Abi Talib and his son to
[47:43]his government officials a typical a Kalama comb what are abou bein
[47:47]a suit or a comb what are they for underneath for luenell
[47:51]Koran and the Imam tells them when you write a letter for
[47:56]me get to the point no need for an introduction no need
[48:01]for anything that's not necessary get to the point tell me what
[48:04]you need communicate to me what's going on in your Terry taury
[48:07]the Imam and his Salaam that's how he eliminated poverty by not
[48:15]wasting any resources this is Amir al-mumineen alayhis-salam who would stand on
[48:22]the member on the pulpit on Friday and he would hold his
[48:25]cloak and he would flap it and flutter it with the wing
[48:31]a young boy was sitting was a with his father he tells
[48:32]her father what does not even have you tired of doing why
[48:35]is he waving his clothes like that he said I don't know
[48:39]let's ask him when the sermon is over they go to a
[48:42]meal and many non Eason and they ask him Oh commander of
[48:45]the faithful my son is curious he wants to know why you're
[48:48]doing this as you were speaking you were waving your clothes fluttering
[48:56]them waving them why the Imam honey Sinan told him oh man
[49:01]I have one garment and today is Friday I washed my garment
[49:09]I did not have time for my garment to dry so I
[49:11]wore it while it was still wet and I was as I
[49:16]was giving the sermon I was drying my clothes this is a
[49:22]leave never thought it this is why we follow him on the
[49:24]other hand history marriage this I'm not making this up history narrates
[49:31]that when the third Khalifa was killed when he died he left
[49:35]behind him in his personal account they didn't have a bank account
[49:39]then but in his personal Treasury he left 8 million golden coins
[49:45]back then with a golden coin you could buy a sheep you
[49:50]do the math that's about half a billion dollars in today's value
[49:53]and today's currency who am i going to follow someone who left
[50:00]8 million golden coins or the one who had one garment this
[50:07]is our leader this is our Imam brothers and sisters we ask
[50:11]allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala to bless us on this day by bringing us
[50:18]by bringing us closer to the path of any romanian salawa to
[50:22]lie money to give us the trophy for the success to implement
[50:27]the teachings of the imam ali salaam especially the strategies of the
[50:33]imam in combating poverty once again I congratulate you my dear brothers
[50:38]and sisters on this blessed occasion of Eid al-adha dear may Allah
[50:42]bless all of you all of your families keep you all safe
[50:49]o sallallahu aleyhi na Mohammad in WA Elliot by hearing [Music]
