[0:01][Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] your brothers and sisters illuminate your
[1:11]over the past two nights we have been discussing the various economic
[1:17]policies and strategies of imam alibn peace be upon him to increase
[1:23]economic growth and reduce poverty now the last two nights we've been
[1:28]discussing governmental strategies and policies that the imam would employ tonight the
[1:34]subject of our discussion will be advice and counsel that the imam
[1:39]peace be upon him offers individuals on how to increase personal prosperity
[1:47]and avoid poverty in our lives a dear brother from the community
[1:56]came up yesterday after the program and they had an observation they
[2:02]said that here in canada the welfare system is actually quite strong
[2:07]however one problem that this poses is that a strong welfare program
[2:13]incentivizes what laziness people don't want to work if you can make
[2:21]in some circumstances more money not working than you do working then
[2:26]what happens naturally people will be incentivized not to work however you
[2:30]see this was not a problem at the time of imam al
[2:35]ibn abi why because of the culture that imam ali created within
[2:42]his governance and inshallah we will discuss various elements and features of
[2:48]this culture but before that number one making a lawful living in
[3:06]islam is considered an obligation it's not recommended it's not optional making
[3:14]a lawful living is an obligation in islam and in fact according
[3:19]to a hadith imam assad peace be upon him narrates from his
[3:25]grandfather rasulullah he states seeking your sustenance your livelihood is an obligation
[3:37]after the obligation meaning what prayer the number one obligation after prayer
[3:40]is what seeking out your livelihood through what means obviously through working
[3:46]right but within the parameters of islam it has to be lawful
[3:52]livelihood so under the governance of amir al-mu'min unless you had a
[4:00]valid excuse you were differently abled you were for some reason unable
[4:07]to work unless you had a valid excuse everyone was expected to
[4:10]work there's no excuse for networking if you're young you're fit you're
[4:14]healthy and you're not working this was unacceptable during the time of
[4:16]amir al-mu'min this was considered a sin you are neglecting a fair
[4:23]an obligation that allah has placed upon you we have a hadith
[4:27]from imam muhammad who strives toward a halal livelihood is the same
[4:45]one in the eyes of allah is equivalent to the one who
[4:50]does jihad for the sake of allah the one who struggles for
[4:53]the sake of allah these two are equivalent so islam places a
[4:58]high emphasis on priority on seeking your your livelihood through your own
[5:02]hands through your own hard work we have various other hadith that
[5:07]earning a lawful living is a form of worship in fact we
[5:12]have a hadith from imam ali he narrates from rasulullah peace be
[5:15]upon him rasulullah during his ascension during the mirage where he ascended
[5:21]to the skies and he saw the angels he saw the heavens
[5:24]he saw hell rasulullah reports this rasulullah during the ask he says
[5:33]my lord which deeds are the most beloved to you o allah
[5:37]what deeds do you love the most what did allah respond prayer
[5:42]fasting allah responds worship has ten parts and nine of those parts
[5:55]are in earning a lawful living allahu akbar earning a lawful living
[6:02]comprises a majority of worship why you find that people who have
[6:08]unlawful earning they engage in illicit professions and behaviors not only is
[6:15]your income source haram right the food that you consume is haram
[6:18]the prayers that you pray in your house are not accepted and
[6:24]many professions require you to cheat to lie to defraud others a
[6:31]bunch of vices are bundled in one that's why a lawful living
[6:35]comprises nine out of ten parts of worship and then allah continues
[6:44]therefore if your food and drink come from a pure lawful source
[6:46]then you will be in my protection and in my sight this
[6:50]is the guarantee of allah subhanahu ta'ala as long as the food
[6:55]that you consume the drink that you eat comes from a lawful
[6:58]source you will be under the safety of allah subhana what more
[7:02]can we ask for we have a hadith from the bait that
[7:07]the one who eats from the fruits of his labor from the
[7:11]fruits of his hands crosses this the bridge on the day of
[7:18]judgment that many of us unfortunately may allah never show any of
[7:23]us failing crossing the bridge right if your bad deeds outweigh your
[7:26]good not all of us will make it through that bridge and
[7:28]inshallah all of us attending this message tonight will make it through
[7:32]the hadith states that the one who earns who eats food from
[7:36]the labor of his hands crosses the sirat like a flash of
[7:40]lightning you get that priority pass right when you go to disneyland
[7:47]you have the is that what it's called priority pass or the
[7:50]speed ticket whatever it's called on the day of judgment crossing the
[7:53]sarat you will have that priority pass if you what you ate
[7:57]and what you drank came from the fruits of your own labor
[7:59]from your own hands we have another hadith the disciples of jesus
[8:04]right and who is greater than the disciples of jesus peace be
[8:09]upon them they came to jesus whenever they would get hungry they
[8:12]would ask jesus oh rasulullah o messenger of god oh jesus we
[8:17]are hungry the hadith states jesus would tap the ground whether in
[8:22]a flat or a mountainous region and loaves of bread would come
[8:25]for them to eat whenever they were thirsty they would come to
[8:28]him they would say oh rasulullah oh messenger of god oh jesus
[8:31]we are thirsty he would tap the ground and a spring would
[8:36]emerge so one day you know this is an impressive sight they
[8:39]came to jesus they said oh jesus who is better than us
[8:42]whenever we seek food you provide it for us from allah whenever
[8:47]we seek drink you provide it for us from allah what did
[8:52]jesus say he says there's someone who is better than you he
[8:56]says better than us we're given the direct sustenance of allah heavenly
[9:02]food heavenly drink jesus said the one who eats and drinks from
[9:06]the fruits of his own labor is better than you all the
[9:10]disciples ever since that day took an oath to always eat and
[9:15]drink from their own labor and they all began to take on
[9:18]jobs requiring manual labor never again did they ask jesus for food
[9:21]or drink this is the importance of our work rasulullah states that
[9:27]when adam descended from the skies from the heavens where he was
[9:31]blessed and all kinds of neraman blessing allah instructed him to start
[9:36]cultivating the land to start working with his own hands and cultivating
[9:41]the land it's as if the point of us being here on
[9:46]earth is to work the first instruction allah gave him after arriving
[9:50]is you have to work in heaven you would get doordash right
[9:55]whenever you needed anything allah would send but here on earth the
[9:59]metrics are different whatever you want to eat whatever you want to
[10:03]drink anything you would like to earn has to come from your
[10:07]own hands from your own work so there's no point in trying
[10:10]to get out of work trying to take the easy way out
[10:15]allah does not want that in fact we have a hadith from
[10:19]imam ali peace be upon him in his will to his son
[10:20]muhammad he tells him avoid baseless wishes you know some of us
[10:27]we don't want to work right we have baseless wishes we hope
[10:34]that we can live our lives gain our sustenance based off the
[10:38]government we want to invest in some stocks and hopefully we make
[10:40]it big and we don't have to work anymore they say in
[10:45]2020 according to the website cnbc 26 of americans started investing for
[10:50]the first time right you have these baseless wishes that i can
[10:55]live off my parents off the government off of stocks off of
[10:58]whatever i don't want to work and maybe i'll make it big
[11:00]i'll make it big one day i'll be rich and i don't
[11:02]have to work no islam says imam ali says this is baseless
[11:08]thinking baseless wishes in order for you to strive and thrive in
[11:11]this life you have to work there's no way around it another
[11:18]excuse or justification people like to offer is you know what i'll
[11:23]do a minimum amount of effort right i'll do the bare minimum
[11:26]and then allah subhanahu wa will provide why do i have to
[11:32]work so hard this is incorrect this is a fallacy my dear
[11:34]brothers and sisters yes allah is the one who provides sustenance but
[11:39]what does the hadith from albeit say the hadith says work then
[11:45]rely on god you have to put in your part right there's
[11:47]two sides to the equation you put in your work your effort
[11:52]and then after you've done your part you've given it your best
[11:55]and you're all allah subhan allah takes care of the rest so
[11:59]to think that i don't do my part i do the bare
[12:02]minimum or i don't even work and allah will provide me sustenance
[12:04]this is not how the equation works this is incorrect not only
[12:12]is lawful living and lawful earning an obligation the imams taught us
[12:19]through their own lives that earning a living with your own hands
[12:25]is in fact honorable there's nothing wrong with that during the jahalia
[12:29]days they had this misconception that a few tilled the earth if
[12:32]you worked with your own hands this was seen as very lowly
[12:36]a prominent person in society would have servants working for them and
[12:41]they just sit all day ordering them around right this was the
[12:44]arab jahilia mentality rasulullah imams they came and they combated this mentality
[12:49]this is wrong my dear brothers and sisters in one hadith ali
[12:54]bin hamza narrates that his father entered the residence of imam musabnil
[12:58]kardon imam musel peace be upon him he answered he went inside
[13:04]the yard he saw the imam himself with his own hands working
[13:07]shoveling working in the yard so he says may my life be
[13:12]ransom for you oh my dear imam why are you working where
[13:15]are the servants the imam looked at him he wanted to teach
[13:19]him and teach us a lesson dear brothers and sisters says i
[13:26]saw the imam drenched up to his feet in sweat he tells
[13:32]me that someone greater than me and my father would engage in
[13:37]this work says who someone greater than you and your respected father
[13:40]he says yes my grandfather amir menin would engage in this kind
[13:46]of work there is absolutely nothing wrong with it working with your
[13:49]own hands my dear brothers the sisters is honorable it builds character
[13:53]it builds your strength your patience in fact working with your own
[13:59]body builds your physical health prevents diseases teaches you patience and humility
[14:04]that's allah subhana allah is truly the one who provides i with
[14:09]my minimal amount of effort i just plant the seed right i
[14:12]irrigate the crops allah is the one who provides for me teaches
[14:16]us many lessons through working with our own hands imam ali peace
[14:21]be upon him has a beautiful hadith in which he says the
[14:25]one who sets out early in the morning for the way of
[14:27]allah is not greater than the one who sets out early in
[14:32]the morning to provide sustenance for his family these two are equivalent
[14:37]the one who strives in the way of allah and the one
[14:40]who strives to provide for their family provide shelter provide food provide
[14:46]an education to their children these two are equivalent in another hadith
[14:52]he says after you finish the morning prayer go out and seek
[14:58]your sustenance you find some people 1 pm it's the time and
[15:00]they're still asleep the imam says after morning prayer finish your morning
[15:07]prayer do your tactibat no problem but as soon as you finish
[15:09]going seek your sustenance go and work and then find in fact
[15:14]you find many of the super wealthy right the ultra wealthy in
[15:18]our communities they abide by this commandment according to a study done
[15:23]by the author thomas corley he interviewed 177 self-made millionaires he said
[15:29]over half of them wake up before the sun even comes out
[15:33]and in fact many figures that you all know tim cook jeff
[15:38]bezos jack dorsey right all billionaires richard bradson what's a common element
[15:43]between these four they all wake up before 5 am why they
[15:50]should teach us a lesson the imam says for the sake of
[15:54]your family for the sake of your halal livelihood wake up in
[15:57]the morning wake up early pray your morning prayer and then go
[16:00]out and seek sustenance a third piece of advice and counsel that
[16:14]imam peace be upon him offers is that as much as you
[16:23]can avoid being employed and try to become an entrepreneur yourself now
[16:27]why is this the case now of course this is not a
[16:30]religious injunction in the sense that there's anything wrong with being employed
[16:34]in fact many sectors of society i mean doctors engineers various other
[16:40]sectors of society right you need employees in order to thrive there
[16:43]needs to be a balance however as a general word of wisdom
[16:47]and advice the imam says try to avoid being employed if you
[16:51]have the option to and try to become a businessman a businesswoman
[16:54]become yourself an entrepreneur why imam ali states in a beautiful hadith
[17:03]he says bring yourself to do business for it provides your richness
[17:07]from needing what people have being self-employed or having your own business
[17:11]or being an entrepreneur has a variety of benefits number one you
[17:17]have flexibility in your own schedule in your own time you can
[17:22]set time aside for prayer for family for worship for recreation right
[17:25]the time is in your hands you have a certain sense of
[17:31]job security in the sense that when you're employed any minute at
[17:33]least in the united states we have at will states meaning 12
[17:38]31 right you're employed 12 32 your boss can come and fire
[17:43]you no severance no nothing where i'm from michigan that's an at-will
[17:47]state 1232 you could be fired whereas if you're self-employed if you
[17:53]own a business you don't run that risk you're not at the
[17:58]mercy of someone else especially here my dear brothers and sisters allah
[18:04]has given us the opportunity to live here in the west so
[18:07]many opportunities for innovation for investing for business are out there we
[18:11]just have to go and seek them out we don't have the
[18:16]laws and restrictions that we have back home there should be no
[18:18]excuse for us to say that we're not able to according to
[18:24]forbes the basketball player michael jordan throughout his whole career all his
[18:28]years and years of playing earned how much his career earnings according
[18:33]to forbes are around 93 million dollars i mean that's that's no
[18:38]few sense right that's a lot of money but after he left
[18:42]the nba he once and became a businessman right he started his
[18:47]own brand jordan's he did partnerships and sponsorships with other companies his
[18:49]net worth today is over according to forbes 1.7 billion dollars so
[18:56]you find in all the decades of him working right playing for
[19:01]the nba and the past 10 years he's made over 10 times
[19:06]the amount through being a businessman through being a merchant an entrepreneur
[19:11]see entrepreneurship opens opportunities that being an employee doesn't and so that's
[19:14]why the imam recommends go find opportunities for you to invest in
[19:20]for you to find new avenues of business however this requires a
[19:24]lot of creativity and the imam says you need to develop your
[19:27]creativity as the verse we mentioned earlier comes from unexpected places if
[19:35]you always think inside the box as they say you're not going
[19:38]to get anywhere you have to think outside of the box you
[19:41]have to develop new formulas new methods you have to experiment with
[19:43]new things you find amazon started off as what it was an
[19:51]online bookstore right if they didn't have that evolution in thinking to
[19:54]where they said you know what if we can ship books to
[19:58]everyone why not ship all kinds of household items if they're if
[20:01]that jump in thinking didn't occur well amazon would not be you
[20:06]know over a trillion dollars in value today and jeff bezos would
[20:09]not have been the richest man on earth netflix started off as
[20:14]what you go on a website and two weeks later they sent
[20:17]you a cd or a dvd now it's the largest streaming website
[20:21]on earth facebook you've all heard of facebook how did facebook start
[20:29]it was just a way for college students to connect but now
[20:32]over the years they found ways to monetize it they found ways
[20:37]to connect to the globe and that's how it's a i mean
[20:39]i don't know what it's worth six or seven hundred billion dollars
[20:42]so this requires thinking outside of the box thinking with a certain
[20:48]set of creativity there's a fascinating story that i heard a while
[20:54]ago i had heard a while ago but a few days ago
[20:56]i went and checked and made sure the source is correct apparently
[20:59]in 1890 a man by the name of almond brown stroger he
[21:05]was an undertaker in a city inside the united states i think
[21:09]in illinois perhaps what's an undertaker basically he takes people and he
[21:13]buries bodies according to the story in a city of 50 000
[21:18]right very small city there was him and another undertaker two guys
[21:22]in the business the problem is whenever anyone would call the local
[21:28]city office to ask for the service for the service of undertaking
[21:32]the wife of the other guy right the other undertaker she worked
[21:35]at the local telephone office so whenever they would ask for his
[21:38]service she would reroute them to her husband's services so the problem
[21:44]is after a while he's losing business he's not able to gain
[21:46]sustenance but look at what a genius this guy is he didn't
[21:51]just sit down idly not doing anything right he used his mind
[21:53]and he came up with an ingenious invention so what's the problem
[21:59]the wife of the other undertaker is rerouting all the calls well
[22:03]why does this need to happen because back then you would have
[22:07]to call the local city center they would reroute you to wherever
[22:10]you want to go he invented the first automatic telephone service where
[22:14]you can automatically call the person you want and it could operate
[22:19]with 99 people at a time this is in 1890.
[22:22]in order to circumvent this issue he came up with a new
[22:25]invention and started a company and later on during those days he
[22:30]sold his patents for ten thousand dollars which those days was probably
[22:33]if you adjust for inflation probably seven figures right so he used
[22:40]his mind he used his creativity and he arrived at from where
[22:44]he had never expected as the quran says imam ali peace be
[22:51]upon him and a beautiful hadith he states be more expectant for
[22:54]what you do not expect than what you expect basically saying expect
[22:59]the unexpected for moses son of imran set out to find fire
[23:03]for his family but he came back a prophet he came out
[23:08]looking for one thing he received something else the queen of sabbath
[23:14]bathsheba departed her kingdom looking for riches but she ended up submitting
[23:17]to allah with the help of prophet sulaiman and then he continues
[23:22]the sorcerers of pharaoh set out to find glory for him and
[23:25]yet at the end of the day they found glory in allah
[23:28]so you should always expect from allah to send the unexpected your
[23:34]way don't always get stuck in the same routine same line of
[23:38]thinking attaining your risk is the same you need to think outside
[23:41]of the box however sometimes that requires a little courage right you
[23:46]need to take certain risks and the imam what does he say
[23:50]in regards to this and hadith he says the cowardly businessman is
[23:54]deprived while the audacious businessman is given sustenance you have to be
[23:59]audacious be brave you have to take risks sometimes right as they
[24:02]say no pain no gain you have to be willing to take
[24:07]those risks you have to be willing to try new techniques new
[24:11]methods however these risks have to be calculated you need to study
[24:14]the market you need to study consumer behavior you need to see
[24:17]guidance from those who are successful in the endeavor you're trying to
[24:22]seek in that way allah subhan allah will endow you with his
[24:26]mohammed the imam peace be upon him begins to offer even more
[24:39]financial advice subhanallah the imam as we mentioned several nights ago is
[24:45]not only a master he's a master in economics and even financial
[24:52]advice the imam says in order to be successful if you want
[24:57]to be a businessman you want to be employed you have to
[25:01]find partnerships with those who are already successful the imam says maxim
[25:05]2 30 become a partner with the one who has abundant sustenance
[25:11]one who is already successful for is more likely to bring about
[25:14]richness and make one fortunate i mean this is only common sense
[25:17]right when you want to find a business partner are you going
[25:21]to find someone who's inexperienced who has no experience dealing with this
[25:27]issue they've never proven themselves or are you going to try to
[25:29]find a partner and someone no they know what they're doing they
[25:32]know the market they've studied consumer behavior it only makes sense that
[25:37]you choose the latter and not the former the imam says when
[25:41]you do business try to delete and omit any middlemen any brokers
[25:46]any intermediaries hadi states he would go in the market of kufa
[25:50]and he would gather all the merchants and he would tell them
[25:54]this he says bring the buyer and the seller close to one
[26:00]another don't have a middle man separating them because why what's the
[26:04]job of the middle man literally inflation the job of the middle
[26:07]man is to increase the price ceiling so that they can get
[26:13]their share so this is a burden on what the economy on
[26:15]the average citizen they increase costs whereas when you omit this middleman
[26:19]this broker what happens you as the businessman as the employee make
[26:24]more profits and as a consumer you see reduced costs it's a
[26:30]win-win situation back then you know 20 30 years ago you would
[26:32]have to call a travel agency you know you'd have to connect
[26:35]with someone they'd have to find you a ticket now you go
[26:37]on orbits you go on expedia within five minutes you can book
[26:41]from here to hawaii right and it's much cheaper than it used
[26:46]to be the imam says if you're stuck in an area where
[26:48]there are no job opportunities no economic opportunities and you've exhausted all
[26:55]avenues of creativity risk-taking well one option that is available is traveling
[26:59]allah subhanahu alaha states and whoever travels for the sake of allah
[27:07]yajit whoever travels in the sake of allah will find there to
[27:14]be much abundance in the land this is what allah has to
[27:19]say a new environment dear brothers and sisters offers new opportunities you
[27:22]can try out things that weren't available before in fact travel itself
[27:28]makes you go through certain struggles that develop your character they sharpen
[27:32]your skills so if you've tried every avenue and you find no
[27:35]success one potential avenue is to travel another beautiful piece of wisdom
[27:45]from rasulullah you've all heard the phrase location location location right if
[27:51]you want to buy a house if you want to buy a
[27:53]business especially you want to set up your store the place the
[27:56]area in which you place it could make it or break it
[27:59]if you have a store you sell cookies but it's 40 minutes
[28:01]away from the city and you don't offer delivery services well probably
[28:05]you won't have any clients no consumers you need to think strategically
[28:10]about where to place your business or wherever you work and one
[28:14]hadith rasulullah peace be upon him is walking in the market of
[28:18]medina he sees a man wanting to sell some merchandise rasulullah tells
[28:21]him go and stand in the beginning of the market so that
[28:26]whenever anyone walks in you're the first person they see and thus
[28:28]they're more likely to buy from you even one thousand four hundred
[28:32]years ago rasulullah understood marketing the dynamics of location and this is
[28:36]an advice we should take to heart the imam peace be upon
[28:43]him states it's very important not only to make money while that's
[28:48]important no doubt pursuing your halal livelihood is very important he says
[28:52]you should pursue positive dreams whatever you do in life should be
[28:58]within the framework of a certain dream a certain end goal that
[29:01]you have the hadith of imam ali states if one of you
[29:06]wants to wish for something then wish for a lot of goodness
[29:12]for allah is generous and munificent if you want to wish for
[29:15]something you want to be the best doctor in the nation wish
[29:17]for that don't just say you know what i want to be
[29:21]the best doctor in nova scotia ask him for the greatest that
[29:28]he has to offer if you want to be a good engineer
[29:30]don't just say i want to be an above average engineer say
[29:34]i want to be the greatest engineer in all of the west
[29:37]and strive towards that entrepreneurs who have a big vision not only
[29:43]are motivated by just chasing money those are the ones that are
[29:48]going to be successful in fact one person once came up to
[29:54]sheikh mufid right one of the great scholars of islam a great
[29:57]jurist so he was praising him he was telling him you've attained
[30:00]the status that many other people can't reach like being such a
[30:02]grand scholar so sheikh says calm down brother calm down i when
[30:11]i was young wanted to be like imam jafar peace be upon
[30:15]him that was my goal but unfortunately i became sheikh al-mufid so
[30:20]when you set goals when you have dreams make them positive make
[30:26]them grand and pursue them and be allah with the power of
[30:28]allah you will be able to attain them muhammad in one hadith
[30:41]states there is no possession which eradicates poverty like contentment to be
[30:49]content as a way to eradicate poverty how so dear brothers and
[30:55]sisters many of us partly our economic struggles our financial struggles is
[30:59]not because of a low income or we don't have enough it's
[31:04]because our demands are too high every three years i want to
[31:07]buy a new car this watch that i wear on my wrist
[31:12]has to be a very fancy watch i want a really big
[31:13]house 4 000 square feet we have to be content with subhanahu
[31:18]ta allah provides us yes seek greatness see grand goals as we
[31:21]just mentioned but whatever you find yourself whatever situation try to be
[31:30]content for as imam states contentment is the best way to eradicate
[31:34]poverty in our lives according to one study in 2010 by princeton
[31:38]university your happiness does increase with your income however only to a
[31:45]certain extent after seventy five thousand dollars your happiness begins to plateau
[31:50]the more you make your happiness does not correlate and in fact
[31:54]in 2018 five years ago or four years ago a study by
[31:59]the university of purdue found not only did it authenticate the studies
[32:03]of princeton it said that after 105 000 not only does your
[32:10]income does your happiness plateau your happiness begins to decrease why because
[32:14]once you break that big that barrier right six figures your desires
[32:19]are going to grow too initially once you reach 75 000 you
[32:24]say i want a nice house i want to have a car
[32:25]i want to provide for the education of my children but once
[32:28]you start making those six and seven and eight figures what happens
[32:31]well i wanna have the biggest house in the city right i
[32:36]wanna drive the fanciest car on the street so you start comparing
[32:40]yourself with the others it's a game of catching up with the
[32:42]jones well the problem with that is once you're always comparing yourself
[32:46]with others your happiness will decrease as the study found if we
[32:51]are to abide by the aforementioned advices that's rasulullah that amir al-mu'manin
[32:56]offers we would find our economic prosperity to grow and poverty in
[33:02]our lives to decrease now dear brothers and sisters before i conclude
[33:08]states a few causes of poverty that might not initially make sense
[33:14]to us right we might hear this and say this doesn't really
[33:17]make sense a western economist might look at this and say this
[33:21]has no bearing on economics on your personal finances however we know
[33:26]that the economics the equation of allah is different we believe that
[33:31]this world is not only a material world there are spiritual influences
[33:35]that affect our lives there is the divine influence one example this
[33:41]might seem very counter-intuitive a hadith from the ahlulbay states if you
[33:49]encounter abject poverty meaning you're dirt dirt poor you have not even
[33:53]a dollar to your name what should you do fattah an economist
[34:06]would say how does this make sense this hadith states if you
[34:12]find yourself an abject poverty then do business with allah in charity
[34:16]basically if you're poor gift charity how does that make sense you
[34:19]might ask if i'm poor i'm deserving of charity but dear brothers
[34:22]and sisters the laws of allah are different than the laws of
[34:26]men and women they're different and let me ask you a question
[34:30]dear brothers and sisters is there a better business partner than allah
[34:35]does allah defraud you does allah cheat you the best partner to
[34:43]do business is with allah so allah states if you want to
[34:48]do business with me give sadaqa imam sadiq he says my grandfather
[35:04]amir al-mu'min would cultivate the land with the shovel and with his
[35:08]hands and from the fruits of his labor he would free one
[35:15]thousand slaves him personally freed during his lifetime one thousand slaves this
[35:20]is a prime example of doing business being a business partner with
[35:24]allah subhanahu ta'ala what's another example keeping ties with your kin and
[35:34]spending on your kin dear brothers and sisters is an issue that
[35:39]allah does not take lightly the imam states in nejal belar behold
[35:45]if any one of you finds your near ones in wants or
[35:50]starvation if you have some relatives family members who are poor who
[35:53]are going through starvation then do not desist from helping them with
[35:59]that which will not increase him if this help is extended nor
[36:01]decrease him thus by spending it what's the imam trying to say
[36:05]he says the money that you allocate to spend on your relatives
[36:09]to aid your relatives if you spend it on your relatives it
[36:13]won't decrease from your sustenance how so allah subhanahu ta'ala has divine
[36:20]core lives in our life if that money you were to spend
[36:24]it somewhere else and not aiding your relatives allah would bring you
[36:28]a calamity your tire would puncture and you would have to replace
[36:31]your tire the same money that you would have given your relatives
[36:33]you would have eventually had to spend it somewhere else allah would
[36:36]have created a calamity in your life such that you would have
[36:39]to spend it somewhere else so if you don't give your money
[36:41]to your relatives when they're in need that money won't help you
[36:44]and what does that what does the hadith state what does imam
[36:48]ali say the money that you do give your relatives allah subhanahu
[36:52]ta'ala will replenish you with that he will recompensate you that wealth
[36:57]so if you don't give your relatives don't think you're saving out
[37:02]no no no allah would have taken that money anyway now are
[37:05]you going to get ajar and hasanat and rewards with that money
[37:09]or is it just going to get taken away from you the
[37:11]decision is ours in islam it's haram dear brothers are absolutely haram
[37:17]to sever your ties with your kin with your relatives no matter
[37:22]how bad your relationships are with your siblings with your parents with
[37:26]your children with your cousins with your uncles with your aunts never
[37:29]let it get to such a situation such that you sever ties
[37:34]meaning you never have contact with them again this is absolutely haram
[37:38]according to hadith by imam ali he states calamities befall upon you
[37:42]when you sever your ties with your kin allah will send calamities
[37:47]your way if you engage in this behavior now what happens if
[37:50]you keep your tithes with your kin and you spend on them
[37:53]if they're in need and one hadith attributed to imam peace be
[37:56]upon him he states keeping ties with one's kin improves one's attitude
[38:02]and morals number one number two makes one's hand more generous you
[38:05]develop the trait of generosity makes oneself good and pure it purifies
[38:13]your soul increases one's sustenance by spending on your relatives you increase
[38:18]your sustenance those are the laws of allah and number five it
[38:21]prolongs your life you want a long life you want to lift
[38:24]till 100 spend on your kin this is the methodology of allah
[38:28]subhanahu ta'ala the bait would highly emphasize spending on their kin the
[38:33]bait you find they had very strong family ties between them unbreakable
[38:37]bonds and the strongest example of these bonds we find on the
[38:44]day of ashura in kerbala what family is more loyal is more
[38:52]loving than the family of abba abdullah despite facing all kinds of
[39:00]danger despite faith despite facing death itself they stood loyal to abba
[39:05]those bonds were unbreakable you find abil abbas on the day of
[39:13]would even go as far as sacrifice his life to do what
[39:17]to bring some water for the daughters of abba abdullah to bring
[39:20]some water for the daughters of bani hashem the day before ashura
[39:29]the cursed enemy shemr he approached abel abbas because they had some
[39:35]kind of kinship he approached him and he offered him protection he
[39:38]said if you leave the camp of abba abdullah i personally will
[39:41]guarantee your protection i won't let anyone harm you when he heard
[39:48]that he got angry and he began to curse shimmer he says
[39:51]may allah curse you you want me to leave my brother never
[40:00]was the moon of benihashem and in fact on the day of
[40:06]this moon this moon shined brighter than ever before the night of
[40:23]ashura the night before the day of ashura was occupied with guarding
[40:26]the tents of the ladies and the children of the woman and
[40:32]the children he was on guard throughout the night he hears a
[40:36]noise coming from the distance he unsheathes his shoulder his his sword
[40:40]ready to fight however once he pays attention he sees it's just
[40:44]sister lady zainab so he asked her lady zainab why are you
[40:47]here she says i can't sleep tonight and i have something very
[40:55]important to share with you he says what is it she tells
[40:58]him i need to tell you the reason why you were born
[41:02]she tells him that after our mother lady fatima passed away our
[41:08]father amir al-mu'min looked to mary a wife a lioness from the
[41:15]arab why when akel asked why he said so that i can
[41:17]have a strong son who would defend my son on the day
[41:22]of kerbala she told him oh my dear brother abel abbas i
[41:25]want to remind you that tomorrow on the day of ashura you
[41:28]have to defend my brother hussain and make us proud the hadith
[41:34]states placed his hand on his sword he placed his foot in
[41:38]the sand he says you're trying to motivate me when i'm the
[41:46]son of allah will make you proud tomorrow this is the oath
[41:58]of us the night passes and the day of ashura arrives all
[42:02]abul fall abbas here's the daughter of abba abdullah sukhena she comes
[42:09]she tells them my uncle we're dying from thirst you see my
[42:13]baby brother abdullah he's dying from thirst we need some water so
[42:19]abel abbas he goes to his master and his imam abba abdullah
[42:24]he tells him do you give me permission to go get some
[42:28]water for the woman and the children at first abba abdullah says
[42:34]no and you're my flag bearer if you fall we all fall
[42:38]i can't let you go.
[42:40]but abel abbas begins to insist he insists and he insists he
[42:46]says i can't handle hearing the cries of the children until finally
[42:49]he gets the blessing of abba abdullah and his permission to go
[42:53]he says under one condition oh do not engage with the enemies
[42:57]just go get some water for the woman and the children he
[43:00]wears his armor he mounts his horse and he begins to head
[43:05]towards the euphrates river now the enemies when they saw the scene
[43:09]the son of the lion of allah is scattered like ants who
[43:16]dares face head-on the enemies say wallah it's as if we saw
[43:24]alibi facing us and they all scattered now when abil fatal abbas
[43:33]arrives at the bank of the euphrates he dismounts from his horse
[43:37]he bends to get some water place it inside the cup the
[43:41]container he brought with him he feels the coolness of the water
[43:45]now three days had not had a sip of water a single
[43:54]drop of water he takes some water in the cup of his
[43:59]hands you bring it close to his lips but whenever he looks
[44:02]inside that water he doesn't see himself in the reflection he sees
[44:06]his brother he sees the harsh lips of imam al-hussein he remembers
[44:12]the cries of the woman and the children the hadith states [Music]
[44:19]he threw the water back towards the water and he begins to
[44:25]rebuke his nephs he begins to counsel himself what does he say
[44:31]look at the words of abba of abu fateh what a loyal
[44:38]brother nowhere in history would you find a brother more loyal than
[44:44]him he begins to recite [Music] [Music] [Music] do not let this
[45:29]world distract you how can i drink from this cool water when
[45:32]the lips of hussein are forged so abel abbas throws the water
[45:39]back to the water he fills his container the one meant for
[45:44]the woman and the children with water he mounts on his horse
[45:48]and he heads straight back towards the camp of abba abdullah but
[45:53]oh believers these wicked enemies that could not have the courage to
[45:58]face ability a evil enemy from behind a palm tree sneaks up
[46:12]behind him and dear believers he strikes his right arm he severs
[46:17]the right arm of abel abbas cries [Music] he says even if
[46:36]you sever my right arm by allah i swear that i will
[46:40]forever defend my master my imam abba abdullah are saying he transfers
[46:45]the bucket of water to his left arm and he's heading towards
[46:49]the camp of abdullah yes oh believers another wicked enemy sneaks up
[46:57]from behind abbas and he suffers his left arm he takes the
[47:04]bucket of water and he starts to hold it with his teeth
[47:06]he carries it with his mouth he's heading he's nearing the camp
[47:12]of abba abdullah when all believers a wicked enemy strikes an arrow
[47:16]and it punctures the container all the water spills out the hadith
[47:23]says he stood not knowing what to do he can't go back
[47:30]to the camp because he promised zucchini water he has no water
[47:34]and he can't fight the enemies because do you fight enemies with
[47:42]no arms how do you fight enemies with no swords oh believers
[47:46]was in this state he was in the state of tahayo he
[47:51]was confused one enemy struck an arrow that pierced this chest another
[47:57]enemy struck him from that pierce design the strike was so powerful
[48:18]he fell from his horse no believers usually when you fall from
[48:23]your horse when you fall down you use your hands to break
[48:25]the fall but how does heaven fall in that bus when he
[48:31]has no hands he has no arms he falls on his face
[48:37]with an arrow in his eyes he falls on this all he
[48:46]can think of is to look towards the camp and he says
[48:53]peace be upon you oh my brother i'm saying my master abdullah
[48:59]imam al-hussein was waiting in the camp he was waiting for the
[49:04]moment his brother would arrive with the water all of a sudden
[49:06]he hears his brother reaching out for him yelling and crying for
[49:11]him he begins to rush towards the battlefield what does he find
[49:16]he arrives by the body of his brother but what kind of
[49:24]scene greets him an arrow in his chest an arrow in his
[49:28]eye and both his and he says words despite the man being
[49:40]a mountain of patience he says all my options are filled my
[49:55]back has broken and the enemy because his eyes were filled with
[50:12]blood he tells him oh man please don't kill me what are
[50:16]you waiting for he says i want my brother he says i'm
[50:23]your brother [Laughter] i only have two requests the imam says what
[50:44]are they he says the first request is leave my body here
[50:47]don't bring my body back to the tents because i don't want
[50:52]sakaina to see me i don't want her to see that i
[50:56]did not bring any water with me and i don't want my
[51:00]sister's hand up to see my body like this all bloodied and
[51:04]bruised and without arms he says my second request he says when
[51:13]he saw him he placed his head in his lap would squirm
[51:18]around he didn't want his head to be placed in his lap
[51:20]he says my brother what are you doing he says my brother
[51:26]abdullah please don't place my head in your lap because now i
[51:28]have you but in a few moments when they come the enemies
[51:32]after you when they murder you who will be there to place
[51:37]your head in their lap [Music] a foreign [Music]
