[73:48]foreign foreign if I can ask my brothers if it's okay if
[75:07]you guys can come as forward as much as you can over
[75:10]there it helps me if you come forward I feel like I'm
[75:13]talking to you more thank you so we've come towards the latter
[75:29]days of Muharram and we often ask that question how is it
[75:37]that we can maintain a level of proximity to Allah what we
[75:41]like to call spirituality after the fiery nights after the month of
[75:48]morning because it's normal that our spirituality fluctuates as time goes on
[75:52]and what I wanted to talk about was how the halat the
[76:02]states that we feel are based on the way that we see
[76:08]the world more so than it is about how we feel in
[76:09]a certain moment so it's something that is within our control it's
[76:14]not something that is just up in the air and then it
[76:18]comes and goes when we don't know what it is that we're
[76:19]feeling so sometimes I feel really good and I think I feel
[76:24]close to Allah sometimes I don't feel so good I think I
[76:26]feel far from Allah really how do you know how do you
[76:30]know if you're feeling far from good if you're having really bad
[76:32]day or a bad week you caught up further away from God
[76:35]what tells you it's farther away from God there's a measurement stick
[76:38]so we can't just jump and say I feel far from Allah
[76:43]based on me not feeling like I feel close the feeling is
[76:45]not as reliable as the thought the world view foreign did what
[76:52]he did with yazid for a certain reason and yes Justice was
[76:56]a part of that and yes truth was a part of that
[77:01]and yes was a part of that standing up to the oppressor
[77:03]was a part of that all of that is true But ultimately
[77:07]the number one reason why ABBA Abdullah sacrificed everything that he sacrificed
[77:12]and why we come every year and we commemorate every year is
[77:18]because he did it for Islam that's why yeah and it is
[77:20]an intention in which he emerged and he sacrificed everything for Islam
[77:24]that might sound very basic to you right now but I'm going
[77:28]to flesh out and show you how that isn't basic at all
[77:31]the number one principle in our religion is the intention the Nia
[77:38]if you pray and you don't make your knee here before your
[77:41]prayer the prayer is bottom it's the first drukun if you fast
[77:46]and you don't make your Nia before fasting the fasting is bottle
[77:49]it's the first principle it's the first pillar as in if this
[77:55]is not part of your aibada there is no any better because
[77:58]ibada must be preceded by the intention of coming close to Allah
[78:04]what happens in karbala isn't just a sad story here's the point
[78:11]we're not crying for a sad story or for such a tragedy
[78:17]it is a very great tragedy and it's one of the worst
[78:19]things that's ever happened to anyone but is that why we cry
[78:23]or is it because who it happened to and why it happened
[78:27]who it happened to and why is actually more important than what
[78:37]the representative of the Deen of the mission of rasulullah of Islam
[78:43]of why we're here why we exist it happens to this person
[78:46]this symbol the portal The Rock Between Heaven and Earth happens to
[78:49]him because he's trying to open up the portal to heaven so
[78:54]it's a rebellion against God it's an absolute disaster the worst thing
[78:59]that could ever happen because of who it happened to and why
[79:02]he said I emerged foreign he wanted to reform the religion after
[79:10]had been corrupted it's been completely corrupted no one recognizes what this
[79:15]is anymore Islam Islam when we say Islam Islam didn't start with
[79:21]rasulullah when we say Islam what does Islam mean one who submits
[79:26]is submission and a Muslim I submit it I submit I gave
[79:28]myself to God Muslim I completely gave myself that's what it means
[79:35]So Adam was a Muslim Noah was a Muslim Brahim was a
[79:41]Muslim Aisa was a Muslim Musa was a Muslim they were all
[79:46]Muslims they were Muslims they all submitted and gave themselves to God
[79:50]Islam is giving yourself to Allah believing and monotheism is the gate
[80:05]that seals prophethood cements the religion and then the appointed successor of
[80:14]the message continues to God that message and take us by the
[80:21]hand towards God and then that person who's supposed to take us
[80:25]by the hand he gets massacred by the very same people that
[80:28]are claiming to be Muslims after they just prayed and after they
[80:32]just said so it's not a thing that you say on your
[80:35]tongue something that you have to live and see in the world
[80:41]before you notice Imam Hussain before he goes to kufa the people
[80:48]in Medina and Mecca tell him don't go to Iraq they're going
[80:53]to betray you when you go there don't go to kufa they're
[80:59]going to betray you you know what he replies I know that
[81:05]they are the ones that are going to kill me Iraq however
[81:12]there is no other Avenue except to go to Iraq what does
[81:16]he mean I have to go to Iraq why kufa was the
[81:23]place that had worked on kufa was the place that the people
[81:30]loved Imam Ali the most it was the center of the kufa
[81:34]however the toshayor was not complete the people that were in the
[81:43]Army on the day of karbala right at the back they're from
[81:45]kufa they're the ones that send the letters to Imam Hussein saw
[81:49]them and he told them you sent me the letter they would
[81:53]deny it they stood at the back they didn't want to fight
[81:55]they would stand at the back and they would pray for him
[81:59]they were in the Army but they wouldn't do anything about it
[82:03]and they had invited him but they got scared because they were
[82:05]basically threatened that kids were threatened their families were threatened and so
[82:08]they felt like they were in between a rock and a hard
[82:12]place they weren't willing to give their lives knew that was going
[82:15]to happen he went there for a reason that place was the
[82:21]most fertile land for tashayor to grow and be complete there were
[82:25]no lovers in Medina there were no lovers in Mecca but kufa
[82:30]had lovers but they weren't that brave yet you blood was going
[82:35]to be spilled but it had to be this fertile land it
[82:39]had to be spilled in a place where it could be taken
[82:43]in and used to complete that we believe in right now is
[82:48]it to show you all where watch how they as much as
[82:50]they kill us around the world over the centuries as much as
[82:55]they come after us everything that they do we keep respawning what's
[82:58]wrong with these people they keep coming back as much as you
[83:02]do to them as much as you oppress them as much as
[83:05]you tried to ostracize them and kill them and threaten them they
[83:09]keep coming Stronger Every Generation more of them and stronger because of
[83:15]Carabella and because of madawiya we have hope ultimately we always have
[83:21]hope things always get worse for everyone else for us we're just
[83:24]like oh it's getting closer we know that ah it just means
[83:28]it's getting closer we know the end what happens the only question
[83:32]is if I'm going to be part of the main characters for
[83:35]the end of the story am I going to be one of
[83:37]the main people but we already know what happens the Iman comes
[83:40]back and everything in the prophecy is fulfilled but am I going
[83:42]to be with him or am I going to be at the
[83:46]backyard Allah help him working against him and karbala because we're willing
[83:51]to give everything up makes you detached karbala makes you have complete
[83:57]Hussain knew this he knew that only few Generations later in a
[84:03]time of Emma Salaam there were 900 within kufa each one of
[84:12]them were saying Muhammad so they were now narrating of Albert in
[84:16]kufa it became the Hub of the show even till now it's
[84:20]the Hub of the show and that's where the Imam is going
[84:22]to return to there's a reason why his blood was built on
[84:26]that land for that reason but what what does that mean why
[84:28]am I explaining this I'm explaining this because he was looking towards
[84:34]a world view in Islam we have something called who knows the
[84:43]difference between you guys know the difference that's not okay we should
[84:48]know the difference is okay it's what we're supposed to do and
[84:53]what we're not supposed to do wajib Muharram if this is okay
[85:01]it's not okay that's fair laws who do we get from if
[85:04]I told you right now how do you know how to pray
[85:06]how do you know it's correct how do you know your fasting
[85:08]is correct how do you know anything you do what do you
[85:10]base on when you guys call us at 3am and you ask
[85:13]us is this I fell on the floor and there was water
[85:14]there and what do I do and this is you follow a
[85:20]merger right you do taklit I do take lead you do talk
[85:25]lead either you become an expert and you derive from what the
[85:27]herald date said and what Allah said in the Quran or I
[85:31]follow an expert it's normal right we all have a mother like
[85:33]anyone else you're going to go for brain surgery you want the
[85:39]best brain surgeon it's just basic common sense I want to know
[85:42]my religion I go to the expert no problem is different Akida
[85:47]is your belief system it's what you believe as in why am
[85:54]I here what's the purpose of life who created me how do
[85:59]I know he's real where did I come from where am I
[86:03]going what's the afterlife like what that's Akida it means your beliefs
[86:07]why is it called it comes from the word comes from the
[86:12]meaning of a not in a rope because it's tight that's why
[86:17]we call a contract foreign because it's a contract between them it
[86:25]means it tied them okay it means a knot in a rope
[86:32]we say that means belief system why because your beliefs should be
[86:35]like her not in a rope in your heart it should be
[86:39]knotted to your heart that's how much you believe it's part of
[86:42]who you are it became you it's called within hakida there's no
[86:48]merger you can't have a merger in Akida there's no taklid you
[86:52]can't follow anyone it's not allowed you or your own merger when
[86:59]it comes to akhida it's wajib on you to answer all those
[87:01]questions I just mentioned right now you need to be able to
[87:06]prove to that God exists yourself without asking anyone else you need
[87:13]to be able to do that now you can do that for
[87:18]yourself you don't have to do that theologically or intellectually it's always
[87:21]better if you can you can do it a different way through
[87:23]Dua you can do it but you need to get to that
[87:27]point where you believe in God for real deep in your heart
[87:31]not because your parents told you to you need to believe in
[87:34]the prophet for real that the Quran wasn't just something written by
[87:37]a man one thousand four hundred years ago and then if you
[87:39]go to Speaker's Corner they can make you forget everything and doubt
[87:42]in your whole religion because they told you five minutes of different
[87:45]fluff that's not either you're working on yourself you're reading you have
[87:56]a world view so you're able to understand the world within a
[88:01]certain lens you understand what happens in your life and we say
[88:06]it makes sense there's a reason behind this it makes sense what's
[88:10]Allah trying to tell me this is the sign what do we
[88:13]mean when we say these things we're saying that this is based
[88:17]on the way that I see the world here's the problem a
[88:20]lot of the time when we're growing up in London then the
[88:23]people that we're growing up with in our workplace and at school
[88:26]we've become a lot more like them and the only difference is
[88:31]the way that we look so have a nice bid and I
[88:35]have these rings and I wear hijab and whatever else I might
[88:40]move up and down five times a day I don't eat pork
[88:42]and that's the difference oh yeah no whiskey too no whiskey no
[88:48]pork that's the difference that's what Emerson died for so you don't
[88:52]eat Porky don't drink whiskey because if I ask you about the
[88:57]way you see the world and the way that you live in
[88:58]life and know what you're doing and everything else it's just like
[89:02]any Tom Dick and Harry in how they see the world and
[89:06]I'm not even saying like what you're doing at work sure we
[89:10]might be all doing the same thing but the intention behind everything
[89:14]the intention you have when you wake up in the morning and
[89:17]when you raise your kids and when you marry and when you
[89:21]come home to sleep everyone does those things but the intentions are
[89:25]different some people do those things for themselves some people do it
[89:30]with Allah that's the difference that's what a Muslim is but Muslim
[89:34]still lives life we still enjoy we still go through whatever people
[89:37]go through we have our pleasure and we have our pain but
[89:41]we have Pleasure and Pain with God that's the difference that's a
[89:44]monotheist if I don't have that in my life what am I
[89:49]really doing then what am I really saying when I say I
[89:52]don't feel close to God what is it about me and God
[89:56]that isn't close right now is it just the way I feel
[90:00]it's not reliable how often do you feel differently than you did
[90:05]before every week every month we go for different phases you look
[90:10]at the way that you wrote on Twitter or on Facebook a
[90:15]couple years ago to the way you are now you're so different
[90:16]you can't believe it's the same person likewise your States change you
[90:22]grow up you change you have different friends different people you're constantly
[90:25]growing you can't rely on how you feel to measure that to
[90:30]measure your relationship with Allah it's not based on how you feel
[90:37]sometimes God makes you feel really good and that's a blessing and
[90:40]we should take that when it comes but sometimes you don't feel
[90:42]so good does that mean when I don't feel so good I
[90:46]don't feel God in my life that means it's not in my
[90:50]life I have to rely on actual reliable evidence and proof and
[90:53]if I've done that with my akrita I know God's there even
[90:55]in the dark times actually the dark times at times I have
[90:59]to understand it the most and this is the point of why
[91:03]I wanted to speak about what I wanted to speak about today
[91:05]today was supposed to be a discussion Circle I wasn't supposed to
[91:07]give a lecture today was supposed to be 20 guys we're going
[91:11]to sit down we're going to talk but it told me a
[91:14]lot of people came alhamdulillah love to see you all they said
[91:16]can you give a lecture I said sure he said what about
[91:19]he said I'm going to speak from my heart and this is
[91:22]what came out right now and there's a reason why I'm saying
[91:26]all of this everyone guys every single person in this world is
[91:34]going to leave you everyone that's why you really need to get
[91:42]with before it's too late everyone is going to leave you everyone
[91:48]you love do you know that by the time you're 16 years
[91:53]old you would have spent 80 percent of the time you would
[91:57]ever have spent with your parents by the time you're 16.
[92:01]some of us here are 16 you guys already spent 80 is
[92:06]20 left you're about to start that but now you're busy You've
[92:09]Got A Levels you've got uni you've got work you want to
[92:13]get married you're going to have kids you're not going to see
[92:15]your parents often you might see them once a week you might
[92:16]see them a few minutes a day right because you're so busy
[92:20]it's normal we grow up we get busy but once upon a
[92:24]time our parents were the people we saw the most every single
[92:26]day we come home from school Mom and Dad she made food
[92:30]same with Dad I watched a match I'm close with my parents
[92:32]my siblings they were the main characters in my life if my
[92:35]parents were the main characters in my life then one day they're
[92:38]not one day you leave everyone goes to this and then you
[92:44]have new characters you find someone that you fall in love with
[92:47]and you get married and then you have kids and then your
[92:50]time is spent with them and then they grow up and they
[92:51]leave you constantly that's just a circle of life that's what happens
[92:59]we live together for several years every moment we ate together we
[93:04]prayed together and then what happened how often do we see each
[93:10]other now man once a year we were together every single day
[93:15]I couldn't imagine my life without Hassan and now we don't see
[93:19]each other just I got married you got married move on life
[93:23]it's just life sometimes I tell my wife I wonder what's going
[93:27]to happen the day when me and you are not in each
[93:30]other's lives anymore one day you're going to die or I'm going
[93:33]to die and hopefully that's the way that we split up hopefully
[93:39]not before that something's gonna happen one day we're gonna split either
[93:44]you're gonna die or I'm gonna die the other person is left
[93:49]over it's how it is you know the only one that doesn't
[93:57]leave the only one no one doesn't leave let me say it
[93:58]better the only one that doesn't change is Allah the only constant
[94:05]the only permanent being Allah Fanny you're the only one that stays
[94:20]in all of us we're perishing and I'm perishing and I just
[94:24]keep changing I'm not constant I keep changing I keep finding out
[94:27]new things about myself but Allah is the same but you'll always
[94:34]find something new and different because he's never ending and he's Unlimited
[94:39]but Allah is the only constant he's the only permanent the only
[94:45]real or haq the only objective truth so if I'm going to
[94:49]invest in something if I'm going to invest in a relationship shouldn't
[94:52]it be this one what does it mean to invest in that
[94:56]relationship that I give myself to Allah completely I become Muslim not
[95:06]Muslim by quickly standards we're all Muslim by 50 standards you want
[95:11]to get married you want to get married to a Christian man
[95:16]you make him say and it becomes okay to marry him oh
[95:20]she's Muslim she's Muslim now she said the shahada yeah has it
[95:25]become artist though in her heart no you can say this person
[95:35]is Muslim as long as they say shahada they're Muslim that's the
[95:39]that's the fifthly standard is not that you must actually believe in
[95:48]Allah and that means you live with God and when you live
[95:56]with God it's different than understanding words coming from here from the
[96:00]member it's different than reading about him about Islam let me give
[96:04]you the example right now the knowledge that we're all receiving or
[96:08]exchanging ideas and receive it from the outside these are just triggers
[96:15]this knowledge is just a trigger I'm just triggering something in you
[96:21]right now I'm triggering some ideas in you you gain that knowledge
[96:24]you understand it you form it you reform it you try to
[96:26]digest it that's the way we receive knowledge externally but there's a
[96:32]difference between that kind of knowledge and knowledge that you have of
[96:36]your own self for example when you're hungry how do you know
[96:42]you're hungry how do you have knowledge of your hunger you don't
[96:45]think about that you just know that you're hungry right you just
[96:49]say I'm hungry but before you said that you were hungry you
[96:54]knew it you came to know about your hunger that's why you
[96:59]went to eat that knowledge of your hunger is different than the
[97:02]knowledge that you're gaining from me right now because you're gaining this
[97:06]knowledge from the outside but you gain knowledge of your hunger from
[97:10]yourself you can tell me you're hungry and then now I understand
[97:13]that you're hungry I understand it because it came to me from
[97:15]the outside but do I feel your hunger I don't feel your
[97:20]hunger I just know that you're hungry but you have a different
[97:24]level of knowledge of your own hunger you feel the hunger you
[97:27]feel pain in your knee you go to the doctor you say
[97:30]I've got this pain in my knee I can't I'm trying to
[97:33]explain it properly I can't move to this side to that side
[97:35]he diagnoses you and he says this is what's wrong with you
[97:40]he understands it because he studied it so he gives you the
[97:42]recommendations that a doctor gives you but does he feel the actual
[97:47]pain in your knee you're the only one that feels that pain
[97:50]in your knee he understands it he diagnosed it he doesn't feel
[97:57]that pain this is the difference in the level of knowledge that
[98:01]we're trying to acquire imagine you had level of knowledge of Allah
[98:06]in the way that you know about your hunger think about that
[98:11]for just a minute think of the way you know about when
[98:16]you're sad when you know you're sad or when you know you're
[98:20]happy or when you know you're hungry or when you know you're
[98:25]in pain that knowledge of your pain and your sadness the way
[98:27]that you know about it so you respond to it what if
[98:31]that was knowledge of God you feel God close to you through
[98:34]knowledge not based on some feelings but based on knowledge I know
[98:41]God's with me the way I know I'm hungry I know God
[98:47]exists the way that I know that I'm hungry you can't make
[98:50]me doubt in my own hunger I'm hungry bro as much as
[98:55]you try to make me doubt about it nah I'm still hungry
[98:58]you can't make someone doubt in Allah's existence when they feel Allah
[99:03]when they know Allah is there with them he's with you wherever
[99:07]you are you can't make someone doubt anymore because now yes he's
[99:11]closer to me than my Jackie Levine he is always just that
[99:16]I am not close to myself so I can't recognize it because
[99:21]I constantly think about things on the outside externally when it was
[99:24]always inside me these are what I'm talking about right now these
[99:30]are all philosophical concepts by the way that I'm just trying to
[99:34]talk about in a normal conversation these are all philosophical Concepts knowledge
[99:37]is split into different parts these are all different types of knowledge
[99:40]the knowledge that I'm talking about is called knowledge by presence knowledge
[99:44]by presence when you feel Allah with you not based on feeling
[99:51]based on knowledge by presence the way that you know that you
[99:58]are you when you wake up in the morning you don't need
[100:00]anyone to remind you of Who You Are it's you you wake
[100:03]up you go you brush your teeth you brush your face you
[100:07]don't need to recount who you are it's that level of knowledge
[100:09]that's the highest level that we want to get to we're using
[100:13]all the external methods right now to get to that these are
[100:18]just triggers reminders this lecture is a reminder and the best way
[100:24]to do that to use all the different faculties that you have
[100:27]to use your intellect to lose your imagination and to use your
[100:32]senses we're using our senses right now to listen we need to
[100:36]use our intellect to reflect and our imagination to try to relay
[100:40]and empathize and put ourselves in those situations like for example look
[100:44]at our ages right now these are small little imaginary questions that
[100:49]we can ask ourselves to start to get us to go on
[100:54]to a higher plane for example I was with the school the
[100:56]other day in Sydney and I went to the school and I
[101:00]sat with them it was the the day before the 10th and
[101:03]I want to speak to these kids about ashora and the best
[101:04]way to do it is to start to use their imagination to
[101:07]get them on the plane they're all around 12 13 years old
[101:10]boys and girls so I said guys if you and Carabella who
[101:14]would you be and they said qasim and sukena and I said
[101:19]yeah now imagine that you're Carson and imagine yourself and think about
[101:23]that and then she would imagine her father about to leave her
[101:25]and he would imagine that there's no one left and he has
[101:29]to go on defend and go on a battlefield and say goodbye
[101:32]to his mom and and their kids and then I spoke to
[101:38]my friend he's around 27 28 and I'm 33.
[101:40]and I said and my teacher's around 60s and then we put
[101:49]ourselves in that situation and it became so real we just used
[101:55]our imagination though why because then you start to feel the burden
[101:59]of that character in karbala as if you were the one now
[102:03]so I felt like all right what if everyone was thirsty and
[102:05]I was the only one that could get the water and there's
[102:07]no one left and I made a promise and then you start
[102:11]to feel like in your heart a big burden on your on
[102:12]your chest on your shoulders likewise everyone in their own position start
[102:17]with imagination take yourself to a higher plane then intellect your intellect
[102:24]which differentiates between truth and falsehood and starts to set a foundation
[102:29]of knowledge like for example with the intellect in which we come
[102:32]towards the traditions of other bait after we believe in them and
[102:36]when we come to understand that life is always going to throw
[102:43]these curveballs at you and it's better that you do that you
[102:48]do life life is something you do if you do life with
[102:51]Allah by your side when you look at the narration in the
[102:56]when Allah loves his servant he gives him a trial he gives
[103:02]him a trial if he loves him my cousin once asked me
[103:06]she said is this true if Allah loves someone he gives them
[103:08]a trial I said yep so the closer I get to Allah
[103:13]I'm going to go through some tough times I said yep said
[103:15]I don't want to get too close I said that's okay you
[103:19]know it's that's your level it's okay not everyone wants to get
[103:23]too close because they're scared but life is going to come at
[103:26]you anyway like I said everyone's going to leave you so why
[103:29]not get with Allah program right now while you still can in
[103:33]your heart because there's not enough to say on your tongue those
[103:35]guys in the Army and karbala said it on their tongues so
[103:39]we have to have it in your heart that means you have
[103:42]to work on it and so when you see the hardships of
[103:46]Life coming at you imagination can really help you because when the
[103:52]real tragedies occur in your life you're going to have to Channel
[103:57]all of that which you call spirituality to make the right decision
[104:00]in that moment when the real tragedies occur then you have to
[104:06]make a choice and you Channel it the beginning of that is
[104:08]Imagination the end of that is intellect last year in Muharram I
[104:14]was in Toronto and a good brother of mine that I know
[104:19]the amazing guy beautiful man he's been married for a while and
[104:22]him and his wife couldn't have a child for the longest time
[104:26]and on one of the nights he invited me to his home
[104:28]and we sat down in the basement he said I have news
[104:31]for you and I said what is it he said no I
[104:34]was five months pregnant and he was so happy he had teeth
[104:36]in his eyes and I became teary because I know what it
[104:37]meant to him and we hugged for a long time and was
[104:41]so happy because he had been really waiting and asking Allah for
[104:44]this and only a few days later it was on the 10th
[104:47]his wife had the miscarriage and I remember we spoke and I
[104:56]cried and he didn't cry until we bought he cried he channeled
[105:01]it he was able to channel it for real life for his
[105:11]daily life for a tragedy that he's living and was able to
[105:14]be patient with that because he had a through his belief and
[105:19]his heart do you see that's the real spirituality because life's going
[105:26]to come at you and you have to make a choice that's
[105:29]what I mean by choice the choice you make is when you
[105:31]say why me or you say Allah take you say Allah are
[105:43]you satisfied oh you say why me I'm a good person why
[105:46]do bad things always happen to good people I'm done with this
[105:50]it doesn't work and all the other things that we say life
[105:55]comes out all of us it comes out all of us and
[105:58]it's a lot easier to speak about right now than when it
[106:01]actually happens because when it happens you're in the dark and it's
[106:03]very hard to listen to anything it's very hard to to listen
[106:08]to reason when you're in the dark it's very hard to see
[106:12]I'm going to share one more tragedy the tragedies are real and
[106:16]this was my first year of marriage we had just gotten married
[106:20]and we were in Lebanon and one night I was home I
[106:26]got a call it was my wife's number I picked it up
[106:27]and then it was a man on the phone and he said
[106:32]is this sin and I said yes who's this he said your
[106:35]wife's been in a car accident I said where he told me
[106:38]so I ran out it was raining it was night time I'm
[106:40]running running around 15 minutes and then I saw a bunch of
[106:46]people gathered around and I'm in denial I'm like that's not that's
[106:49]not me I'm looking somewhere else because that can't be my car
[106:52]and I saw my car it was completely sandwiched totaled and I'm
[106:58]still in denial I can't believe it until I come forward and
[107:00]all these people on the ambulance is there and I saw my
[107:05]wife played on the ground blood everywhere and I couldn't believe what
[107:07]I was seeing and I sat next to her and trying to
[107:09]speak to her she's not responding to me and I'm I'm in
[107:14]a different zone right now I'm thinking of her mother her parents
[107:16]what am I gonna do what was happening and I really thought
[107:20]I was going to lose her we put her on the ambulance
[107:23]I'm sitting down I remember the whole ambulance ride I kept thinking
[107:26]of say the zainab how she did this again and again and
[107:31]again and again on the same day except for her they were
[107:37]mutilated and it was a war and it kept happening and she
[107:39]kept saying to Allah except from me and then after that she
[107:44]was able to gather the children chains whipped to kufa to Sham
[107:50]still telling yazid you will never erase our memory man real belief
[107:56]system there's no time to think Allah is different Allah is far
[107:58]from me close to me there's no time for that I have
[108:03]to just stay with Allah the whole time I'm living with him
[108:06]like I'm living with all my other states like my hunger and
[108:08]my pain and my fear I had to make a decision Allah
[108:15]why'd you do this or Ya Allah Hussain said was in his
[108:25]arms I can only go through this because you are watching me
[108:29]you're with me you can see me I'm living with you you're
[108:34]here with me so you have to live with God Islam is
[108:41]to live with Allah Hussain for Islam means Allah to give yourself
[108:55]to God to channel all the different pain that you feel through
[109:01]the tragedies of life to God to feel him with you wherever
[109:06]you are you when he went through all that he went through
[109:10]was exiled and he was sick and he lost his children and
[109:14]he had everything he lost everything you know what he says to
[109:18]Allah I love this Ayah in the Quran he says Lord hardship
[109:22]and trial has befallen me then he says it doesn't say take
[109:33]it away he says trial has befallen me and you are the
[109:38]most merciful what does that tell you I trust you and I
[109:43]trust you Ya Allah I'm going through this you see me I
[109:48]trust you that's it when yunus was in the whale he said
[109:56]he's inside the whale in the middle of the sea look a
[110:01]real whale ate this man in the middle of the sea he
[110:04]has nowhere to go and Allah says he believed that we won't
[110:08]leave him inside the whale yunus wouldn't disbelieve that we won't let
[110:16]him go we won't leave him to himself so he called down
[110:25]in the darknesses if the darkness of the whale the darkness of
[110:28]the Sea The Darkness of the sky it's just complete back Darkness
[110:34]they called out there is no Lord but you I am one
[110:42]of those who have oppressed myself where do we recite that all
[110:46]the time that because he recited it in deep desperation he's in
[110:49]the middle of the whale and then he recites why do we
[110:53]say that every year later and and health and health that's where
[111:03]it comes from we use what we call thicker yonos is the
[111:08]thicker of prophet yunus the care of the whale because it's a
[111:13]Decor of desperation calling on to Allah when you have nothing left
[111:15]it's just flipped around and here's the answer Allahu Allah says so
[111:25]we answered him and we saved him from the darkness and that's
[111:35]how we save the Believers we save the Believers those who believe
[111:42]we always come back we always save them my servants who have
[111:55]transgressed against their own selves not Allah you messed up but you
[112:02]messed up with your own self you only ruin it for yourself
[112:04]a lot of doesn't gain and lose you messed up for your
[112:08]own self Allah doesn't want you to mess up for your own
[112:09]self and he doesn't say yes he says so he's using a
[112:19]comforting tone here when he's calling us he said my servant my
[112:23]servant my devotee if you messed up against your own self don't
[112:33]despair of the mercy of God don't give up don't let go
[112:38]as hard as it gets don't ever say I won't be with
[112:43]you don't ever say I left you I don't leave you I
[112:45]never leave you if you don't feel me there's something that's blocking
[112:51]you you are taking this bottle to the ocean and you get
[112:54]this much water get a new bottle man this is this is
[112:59]a really small bowl and I'm quite thirsty I remember this bow
[113:08]you have to take a larger container to the ocean look at
[113:14]that though is Hamilton thank you he says me what's the difference
[113:47]didn't say Lord increase my knowledge then say Robbie is it the
[113:53]hell me it doesn't say increase my knowledge he said increase me
[113:56]in knowledge Robbie Alma increase me I expand when you give me
[114:09]knowledge do you understand the difference you grow you yourself when knowledge
[114:15]is poured into you you grow you become you as a person
[114:17]is asking for himself to be expanded through knowledge he's expanding knowledge
[114:28]expands you know Islam says he said every container becomes full with
[114:38]whatever you fill it up with once it reaches the limit it's
[114:41]full except the container of knowledge it expands it keeps growing you
[114:48]and I are containers of knowledge we expand Alma look at the
[114:55]way the prophet spoke to Allah look at the way Allah spoke
[115:00]to us constantly giving us hope constantly giving us a way constantly
[115:06]giving us a rope and then we say things like I feel
[115:09]far from God I don't even know what I'm talking about when
[115:13]I say I feel far from God it means there's something different
[115:14]I've got a small bottle right now I need to get a
[115:18]bigger bottle because Allah is giving me non-stop he's abundant I'm just
[115:22]not accepting so let me accept Allah is not going to hold
[115:25]back from me why would Allah hold back he is all generous
[115:28]and he has everything and nothing to lose why would he ever
[115:32]hold back Allah doesn't hold back Allah says don't despair of the
[115:39]mercy of Allah so if I'm not receiving I need to ask
[115:45]myself why what am I doing let's not allow myself to receive
[115:48]am I am I my own God who's Allah in my life
[115:54]who's the Allah that I'm worshiping and devoting myself to is it
[115:59]Allah or is it some different Idols in my heart what are
[116:03]my attachments am I addicted to a certain sin is that my
[116:09]Lord am I devoted to someone that's against Allah what is it
[116:13]in my life that I know I should be doing better that
[116:17]I'm not doing what is in my life that I know I
[116:18]shouldn't be doing that I keep doing let me remove those let
[116:27]me gain those that's all it is it's not your feeling sometimes
[116:32]it feels good sometimes it doesn't feel good it doesn't matter that's
[116:36]irrelevant when it comes to what you believe when it comes to
[116:41]what you believe you do the right thing when you're anxious when
[116:43]you're tired when you're happy when you're whatever it is you're disciplined
[116:46]with your belief it's not based on how you feel and if
[116:52]it comes to any point and feeling at the very least we
[116:58]never feel despair no despair from the mercy of Allah I want
[117:01]to take some time to talk to you guys I don't want
[117:04]to talk at you the whole time so inshaallah will open the
[117:07]opportunity for us to have a little conversation foreign does anyone have
[117:28]any questions about the lecture would anyone like to start off oh
[117:33]don't be shy in in the West knowledge tend tends to be
[117:49]quite positive is quite centered around your senses and testament to your
[117:55]senses and it's a little bit more difficult to open yourself up
[118:01]to uh intellect and Imagination more so than than in other other
[118:06]parts of the world especially in school with you know you getting
[118:11]taught that it has to be seen or believed you know tested
[118:14]to the senses for you to understand it and know about it
[118:18]so how do you so what do you advise on opening yourself
[118:24]up basically to more than just your senses and and opening yourself
[118:30]up to your intellect in your imagination so this is a really
[118:37]good question I'm going to try not to bore you guys because
[118:39]this can go really I can already fall with this this is
[118:43]uh what we call epistemology epistemology and this is based on how
[118:50]do you know anything or what value is there to any knowledge
[118:52]so the knowledge that the brother is speaking about where something has
[118:56]to be seen and observed and experimented on as a scientific method
[119:00]which they call empirical which is right now the main form of
[119:05]knowledge that everyone relies upon and values and it's something that slowly
[119:12]we incorporate into our own life too so we see something in
[119:16]the Quran or we see something from date or we see whatever
[119:18]it is and then we don't believe it as much as when
[119:22]we see a scientific experiment or scientific evidence like oh it has
[119:27]now been discovered that these clouds are shown whatsoever and then it
[119:30]brings you an eye from the Quran Allah knew this 1400 years
[119:33]ago the prophet Muhammad How could a man doesn't know that you
[119:35]know and you feel so happy and you share it everywhere especially
[119:38]your mom shares it all over WhatsApp right and then right and
[119:42]it might not even be a correct correct experiment but because it's
[119:47]scientific and that's what the day and age values we find it
[119:50]that's more valuable whereas science is very valuable in its own field
[119:54]however it should never enter fields that has no business entering into
[119:59]like fields of imagination like dreams there's only so much empirical data
[120:05]you can gather on dreams you can let's say with psychology to
[120:11]an extent and Carl Jung has done that but not everyone accepts
[120:14]his work there's a lot that I can bring up right now
[120:18]that empirical data cannot help you in like for example you know
[120:22]that feeling we all get when you think of someone and then
[120:26]they call you and you're like I'm just thinking of you okay
[120:29]that happens look the reason that I'm bringing it up is because
[120:33]we all feel it everyone's not in their heads is that a
[120:38]coincidence so what is that how come we all feel that and
[120:40]how can people all over the world relate to that based on
[120:44]empirical data there has to be some sort of connection because there's
[120:47]enough people that's happening to so are we saying there's something called
[120:51]telepathy Is that real can science go into that field it can't
[120:56]if you're interested in this topic I would recommend a book called
[120:59]The Science delusion by Rupert sheldrake where he debunks science and says
[121:06]that science has become its own religion so science has become what
[121:08]it claims to be against because it has a set of principles
[121:11]that are not actually scientific now because if you say science is
[121:17]the basis of all knowledge prove that scientifically you can't even do
[121:21]that so it's the law of non-contradiction you can't even prove that
[121:24]scientifically that science is the point of one knowledge anyway that's going
[121:27]to scientism that's a different discussion I don't want to digress too
[121:30]far well I'm trying to prove right now is empirical data is
[121:34]not the be all and Endor there are other forms of knowledge
[121:37]for us to use for us to gain knowledge through like for
[121:43]example intellectual type of knowledge and for that mathematics is the first
[121:47]thing that anyone would suggest maths is a whole different world there's
[121:51]no your truth and my truth when it comes to two plus
[121:53]two equals four there's just truth there's no I respect you and
[121:59]pronouns and all that it's just four if you say I really
[122:03]I feel like it's five and I'm offended if you say fourth
[122:05]day I don't care it's four it's maths that's intellectual so mathematics
[122:11]actually a lot of philosophers they would have mathematics as a prerequisite
[122:15]for philosophy because it's that's the way you calculate within intellectual knowledge
[122:22]its principles use principles logic is a whole field on its own
[122:27]and the way that you begin here is actually how you know
[122:31]anything there are certain so there's something that we call axioms axioms
[122:35]are things that you can't deny but that can't even be proven
[122:39]because they're self-evident when something is self-evident it doesn't have a proof
[122:44]it's an axiom it's something that we start from so for example
[122:49]in Arabic we call it um the mother of all knowledge because
[122:52]if you don't have this you can't know anything and the mother
[122:55]of all knowledge is the law of non-contradiction in Arabic the law
[123:02]of non-contradiction is this this box can't be it's one one of
[123:10]them has to be true it's done this which we all know
[123:15]is true this is a law we start to add new knowledge
[123:17]it starts from here though I can only I can't prove that
[123:21]that's the case it's just self-evident you guys know that or for
[123:24]example the whole it's always greater than the part that's another Axiom
[123:29]that all knowledge comes from any sound minded individual has to accept
[123:33]that the whole is greater than the pot if you see the
[123:37]part is greater than the hole I can't prove you wrong it's
[123:42]just something you're crazy basically you know or oh we're all Living
[123:45]in a Dream right now those kinds of people that come and
[123:48]they say I'm living I'm living a dream like one guy once
[123:51]told me I was having a debate with him and he said
[123:53]had we don't know anything is true we might all just be
[123:57]in a dream and you don't even know what you're saying is
[123:59]real and I don't know what I'm saying is real and we're
[124:02]not even sure about anything and then I said are you sure
[124:08]about that and he said no I'm like brother I can't talk
[124:12]to you because you're not even sure about what you're saying do
[124:14]you see what I'm trying to say so there's no meaning to
[124:18]what he's saying all these like funky philosophies that they come up
[124:20]with is it's all nonsense it's all ridiculous this is all debunked
[124:26]with axioms just base principles these need to be studied as you
[124:32]can see right it's not some easy like weight I can just
[124:34]talk about it but actually it's Common Sense we all use this
[124:37]every single day of Our Lives we just don't know where they're
[124:42]called cause and effect I know that this book didn't just create
[124:44]itself I know there was someone who compiled it I just know
[124:49]that because it can't just appear out of nowhere you don't just
[124:53]get an iPhone on its own someone designed that so cause and
[124:57]effect these are laws and principles so this is how you exercise
[125:03]your intellect you study logic in mathematics and Logic for intellect meditation
[125:11]meditation helps a lot with imagination to get under control through breath
[125:19]work and all sorts of meditation to be able to practice focus
[125:22]and being present in the moment allows you to understand more about
[125:27]your imagination your dreams your visions all comes back to a practice
[125:35]it's all them practice but if we're not doing that we're not
[125:39]living there we're constantly living in the sensual world then yeah that's
[125:42]going to be very difficult for us and that's what most people
[125:45]are living in the sensual world and people don't meditate they don't
[125:50]do maths they don't study logic and we watch we watch a
[125:54]lot of TV and we don't read notice how when you read
[125:57]Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter it's different than watching Lord
[125:59]of the Rings in Harry Potter when you watch Harry Potter the
[126:04]story is told for you it's all visual when you read it
[126:10]you have your own concept of Harry and Hagrid and Hermione but
[126:14]when you watch it it's done for you so your imagination becomes
[126:21]lazy but when you don't do that that's why these films never
[126:24]never make it to the level of the book the book is
[126:26]always superior because you are the Creator your imagination so it's important
[126:34]to allow your imagination to be nourished through fantasy sometimes you know
[126:41]but if you're not reading then it's not going to happen so
[127:01]sisters so it says some of us including yourself are traveling to
[127:16]arak foreign what sort of prep do you think we should do
[127:21]when we are there and doing the walk what should our motivation
[127:24]be and what should we remember foreign anyway since 2017 so it's
[127:50]been a while but our bahin is different to the others after
[127:54]the last arbain and you get to spend time in the shrine
[127:58]different intimate time because of the walk because of the significance of
[128:08]going back on that day in a way that you're pledging Allegiance
[128:11]after what happened in karbala taking the footsteps of the survivors of
[128:16]karbala and you're taking that walk there's a lot of time to
[128:22]reflect and it's painful time when you're walking you're not very comfortable
[128:27]and you're in pain but the whole time if you do it
[128:33]right you build Brotherhood Sisterhood you might get married happens a lot
[128:38]every other main trip will get people married alhamdulillah [Laughter] it's the
[128:49]reflection the reflection through the pain really because you're going to want
[128:52]to give up a lot you're going to see all those taxis
[128:56]moving by no one sees you jump in the taxi you're getting
[128:58]incredible that but if you keep pushing through and you reflect on
[129:04]the last year you reflect on the last 10 years you're affecting
[129:07]your whole life you're not going to get that intimate time in
[129:09]the shrine don't expect that but you're going to have intimate time
[129:12]with the Imam during the whole walk and that moment when you
[129:20]see the shrine that first moment after you have been walking for
[129:23]so long and you have been waiting the whole year or however
[129:27]long you've been waiting to to come together to that land everything
[129:30]comes full circle I would say take all your troubles take everything
[129:35]you've been going through take all your hopes and dreams and your
[129:38]pain and put that in a little basket and put that on
[129:44]your back and walk with that the whole way to karbala and
[129:48]I promise you with his sincere intention once you get there the
[129:55]basket is going to be empty of all that pain the basket
[129:59]you're going to have formed the bond let's say a bond that
[130:06]wasn't there before with the muscle with the gate the gate to
[130:11]God that's what you're going to do you're going towards the gate
[130:16]to God that's how you should see it so you're forming a
[130:18]bond with the gate so when you get there you can finally
[130:21]knock on the door say you're an orphan they never turn away
[130:26]to orphans they always open a door for their time so you're
[130:28]going there but you're going there as someone who is devoted you
[130:32]know go in there in a five-star ride [Music] you go in
[130:37]there as a devotee as a you as a team you know
[130:43]it's going to take you in they'll take you in um so
[130:59]my question is that so as we all know Allah he's um
[131:06]as he said he's a constant he's he doesn't like change and
[131:14]um like so so the question I have is that his will
[131:16]so you see in Leila when when we say that he can
[131:22]uh like our animal can like change our Allah can change our
[131:25]destiny and like for example when we die um so he's changing
[131:32]basically like what's written which is his will but if Allah is
[131:36]not changing how does his will like how does it yeah and
[131:42]son I mean so it's really good question and here here is
[131:59]the amazing point Allah first of all I want to clarify something
[132:05]Allah doesn't change in the way that we change but Allah a
[132:11]set thing either we can't fathom Allah okay so let's not even
[132:16]try but what we want to say is always going to be
[132:20]Rahman he's always going to be Rahim that's what I mean it
[132:22]doesn't change Annie he's always going to be who he is now
[132:28]if Allah willed us will in Arabic is what we're talking about
[132:36]the Divine will Allah creates with Divine will the question is actually
[132:41]a very deep question because what we're saying is if Allah is
[132:44]one and never changes and he willed us into existence how come
[132:48]he will the second time and overrid his first will isn't that
[132:54]a contradiction it's true it would be a contradiction actually it would
[132:58]be a contradiction for Allah to have two Wills anyway forget what
[133:01]they were even if they were the same even if they were
[133:06]the same thing how can he have two Wills or three Wills
[133:08]or four Wills because he's one Allah is one Allah actually has
[133:16]one will one irada it's infinite it's never ending and it was
[133:24]only ever been one only one will has ever been and that's
[133:28]what created everything and continues to do whatever it does what that
[133:34]means my brother is this and this is what's so amazing and
[133:40]this is the idea of soul mates in Islam as well when
[133:43]Allah created Iblis it was the same time Allah created Dunya it
[133:48]was the same time Allah created the Angels it was the same
[133:50]time Allah created the mountains it was the same time Allah created
[133:53]everything that ever was and it came out in chronological order but
[133:58]there was one will for everything and that means the will that
[134:05]created the same world that created you and I the same all
[134:08]that created your parents and so your parents were always supposed to
[134:12]meet each other because you were always willed to be so they
[134:16]were always supposed to meet likewise I was always supposed to meet
[134:19]my wife because my daughter was always meant to be you were
[134:24]always all of us here were always meant to become we were
[134:26]always meant the same will that created the Stars created you and
[134:33]I in this time so we were willed to live together in
[134:38]a generation how beautiful is that we were all meant to be
[134:41]at this time and we can't ask why wasn't I with the
[134:45]prophet Muhammad because we weren't willed to be in that time I
[134:47]was supposed to be the son of the son of the son
[134:49]of the son of the son of the guy that lived that
[134:52]time my ancestor whoever it was I couldn't be me without him
[134:54]that's like saying why couldn't there be seven without six or five
[134:58]five and six just come before seven numbers you know you can't
[135:03]get to 10 before all the others so these this idea about
[135:11]the will of Allah being one then give us another question that
[135:16]what happens when I pray what happens when I ask what happens
[135:20]when we say Allah changed my destiny actually what happens here is
[135:26]something we call Bada that's the word that we're asking about and
[135:30]there are chapters written about this in Akida but ultimately bro I'm
[135:33]never going to go there what I'm gonna say is this Allah
[135:37]already knew it was going to change and he already knew you
[135:40]were going to make and he knew you were going to pay
[135:43]and he knew that you were going to escape the car crash
[135:46]and he basically yes everything that you did affected your destiny but
[135:51]Allah knew your destiny that does not mean that you don't have
[135:54]anything to say though because right now I know that I'm doing
[135:59]this and no one's forcing me I know no one's forced me
[136:01]to do it God didn't just force me to do this because
[136:04]then someone can say oh then how come I go to heaven
[136:06]or hell or whatever else I'm not responsible for my sins if
[136:09]Allah designed me to commit them I'm not saying Allah is making
[136:11]you commit your sins I'm responsible for my action but Allah already
[136:14]knew I was going to do this one day from the beginning
[136:17]of time when Allah created the angels and he knew I was
[136:19]going to do this on a Civic moment he knows everything it
[136:23]didn't come to him later on he knew it all he's always
[136:29]known it he's over he's known it he's always known everything and
[136:32]everything was always wilt it's only one will that doesn't mean you
[136:39]shouldn't pray because there is a metaphysical effect it's the same way
[136:44]that let me give you an example you go to the gym
[136:45]you got Hench Allah knew you were going to do that does
[136:49]that mean you shouldn't go to the gym and not get hint
[136:52]anymore oh but he already knew I was gonna do it so
[136:54]I'm not gonna go to the gym but you can only get
[136:55]Hench if you go to the gym but Allah knew that was
[136:58]going to happen so if you want something that's physical right there's
[137:03]a metaphysical cause and effect too when I make Dua I receive
[137:07]something just because Allah knew is going to happen should I not
[137:12]do it but then I don't get the result do you see
[137:14]so I still have to make the door I still have to
[137:17]pay the charity for the narrative to go the way it's always
[137:18]meant to be and if you don't Allah already knew you weren't
[137:22]going to do it Allah has knowledge of all things here's the
[137:26]two principles because it gets very confusing Allah has knowledge of all
[137:32]things and I'm not forced to do anything just stick to those
[137:34]two principles because that's where it takes you I'm responsible for my
[137:39]own actions and Allah doesn't force me to do anything I'm responsible
[137:43]but Allah already knew everything and all the alternate timelines and all
[137:48]the different times that I gave charity and made Dua and that
[137:51]was all known too but I still have something to say about
[137:54]it yeah it's about this you're gone yeah yeah go on yeah
[138:13]so just like I'm struggling with Spin and cycle I'm saying I'm
[138:19]struggling Allah has Wills to everybody yes does Allah have a will
[138:23]for everybody one will that Allah attributes or so for example yazid
[138:32]is going to tell and rasulullah is going to heaven he already
[138:35]knows that from beforehand so is that just or but he knows
[138:43]that beforehand that's yeah that's what I'm saying I just explained it
[138:51]through Priscilla you see it doesn't change anything if someone goes to
[138:55]heaven will help is responsible for his actions there's no trouble that's
[138:59]what that's what no one is forced into any soul yazid actually
[139:17]asked by the way he asked Imam said is there a way
[139:20]that I can get forgiveness for this and I'm suggested yes I'll
[139:25]tell you but you're not going to do it I already know
[139:28]so forget about Allah knowing Imam said Jed knew that he wouldn't
[139:33]do it because he's just not that kind of person but yes
[139:35]it was and I'm not case he destroyed the Kaaba this guy
[139:39]was cooked it's not even uh you know it's a get a
[139:43]better example okay so this is a little paragraph sometimes we go
[140:07]through difficult times in our life and it's hard and we are
[140:09]patient and in the end things get better but certain things are
[140:14]really hard to maintain hope for it's not a bad thing that
[140:18]passes for example as a girl waiting for Allah to send her
[140:22]no sleep can feel so painful I assume myself growing older and
[140:28]the girls around me too and God has not sent us the
[140:30]right person are we meant to maintain endless hope um but what
[140:35]if our prayers never get answered first of all the prayer is
[140:50]always answered Allah will answer in different ways the prayer being answered
[140:55]doesn't always mean that it will be the result that we want
[140:57]I remember me praying to get married when I was like 20.
[141:02]and I was praying my heart out to get married and it
[141:05]didn't work out and I'm so glad it didn't work out now
[141:06]but at the time I was so upset and I thought that
[141:10]oh my prayer wasn't answered my prayer was answered it was just
[141:12]it was really good that it was answered in that way alhamdulillah
[141:16]there's a reason why these things happen so no it's not always
[141:20]be all end all the way that we think what's best for
[141:23]us Allah knows what's best for us saying that yeah right now
[141:25]it's hard when it comes to marriage especially because this generation this
[141:31]is about the society though it's not about us as people I'll
[141:36]see the best boys and girls all over the world and I
[141:42]really think it's gone to a level of a crisis it's actual
[141:44]crisis now of us not getting married and with the men it's
[141:50]a lot easier because they have more time so they can be
[141:55]20 or 30 years old 40 years old they can still get
[141:59]married for a sister it's a lot more limited than that doesn't
[142:01]have as much time as men because of that it feels like
[142:07]we're going towards a place where in about 10 years time a
[142:13]lot of sisters in our community are not going to be married
[142:18]that's the way it's looking in Canada that's the way it's looking
[142:21]in America that's the way it's looking in the UK that's the
[142:26]way it's looking in Australia I can see it in more so
[142:28]in Australia because they're an older community than us so I can
[142:34]see the future in them it's mad over there yeah not only
[142:36]is it so many unmarried so many single mothers as well more
[142:41]than anywhere else so the way Society is built now it's not
[142:43]built in a way that it's very easy to get married and
[142:46]once we do get married it's not very easy to sustain that
[142:48]marriage there's no reason to like before there was a reason to
[142:55]take each other's I don't want to say the bad word but
[142:57]to you know put up with each other [Laughter] there was a
[143:02]reason to pull up with each other because we relied on each
[143:08]other more to live but right now men don't need women women
[143:11]don't need men like they used to just based on society I'm
[143:16]saying a woman used to need men in civilizations past because of
[143:19]security and financial reasons they don't need that anymore they a lot
[143:23]of time make more money than the man and the government can
[143:27]keep them secure for a man it was mainly for purposes of
[143:33]mating and pleasure and that's why he'd have several women and even
[143:38]concubines and now the internet has taken men's souls and Ai and
[143:43]VR goggles and whatever you want makes you look like you've got
[143:48]a girlfriend that you created and she has a voice and just
[143:51]like that movie Her it's a real thing now you can make
[143:54]your own girl and you can put headache level and so like
[144:00]you know what I'm getting what I need and I don't need
[144:03]anyone tell me what to do likewise the girl is saying I
[144:05]don't need this guy tell me what to do and whatever I'm
[144:08]safe and I've got money so why should we get married except
[144:12]if we fear Allah if we're really God conscious people and we
[144:15]believe in family values and bettering ourselves as people and not just
[144:19]being with people temporarily but actually building a family unit and bringing
[144:24]children to the world that I want to raise on a part
[144:28]of a date that's a sacrifice now that used to be a
[144:32]basic basic normal life standard it's not a life standard anymore you
[144:34]really have to be a focused person now to want to get
[144:36]married and stay married because a lot of people that get married
[144:39]they tell you yo marriage is the worst thing ever so not
[144:43]only is about getting married it's getting married to the right person
[144:46]and that's getting harder and harder it's not because of who you
[144:50]are though that's the problem here that I really want to highlight
[144:53]this doesn't Define who you are getting married not getting married the
[144:58]most amazing people that I know right now are not married especially
[145:01]when it comes to Sisters I know so many gems that are
[145:06]not married and for them to Define themselves based on that is
[145:10]not is not accurate but the the world that we're in right
[145:15]now unfortunately we're in a time where we're getting tested with all
[145:19]sorts of tribulations that haven't been haven't been around before you know
[145:22]right now people don't even know where they are if they're a
[145:25]man woman or lizard they just they are what they'd say they
[145:30]are right so it's upon Allah that's the test of the age
[145:32]that's the test of the age right now and there are so
[145:37]many options as well so so many of us have commitment issues
[145:42]we might come across the best person and we don't feel like
[145:44]that's the person for us because we are thinking of some other
[145:47]ideal person the internet makes us compare whoever it is that we're
[145:55]talking to to all these celebrities and Attractive people so we have
[145:59]to be realistic and we have to understand what we want from
[146:03]Life what we want in a spouse and be proactive about that
[146:05]so what I would say is when we say nasib I'm waiting
[146:09]for minor sleep waiting for minor C doesn't mean I'm waiting for
[146:12]it just take some guys gonna come to me and knock on
[146:17]my door okay there's ways to do this and I'm going to
[146:20]say a few things here and I'm you know I don't want
[146:24]to push any buttons or poke the bear but just I really
[146:26]think you should be proactive about trying to get married and it's
[146:30]easier for the man for sure it's easier for the man but
[146:33]it's not wrong for a sister to also approach the man and
[146:38]that doesn't I would always recommend that it's just to do it
[146:40]through a third party just to safeguard her honor and dignity because
[146:43]if he says no it's going to hurt a little bit so
[146:46]drove or not say that to the girl's face um to do
[146:50]it through the third party is always better but that's what I'd
[146:54]recommend I'd recommend through a third party through Uncle Auntie mom dad
[146:58]maybe not mum dad but a friend a scholar you know I've
[147:01]got a whole database by the way I'm like I'm like proposing
[147:04]every day man Allah like this guy that girl this guy that
[147:08]go all the time yes no maybe yes no me you know
[147:11]and I always ask the guy before the girl because he can
[147:15]take it I'll say are you interested in her if he says
[147:19]yes and ask her she says no it's cool like you gotta
[147:21]you gotta Soldier up but I don't ask her first because I
[147:25]don't want her to get rejected you know so the girl is
[147:29]more delicate but um yeah I've got a whole database of this
[147:32]I don't know not only me but I love other public people
[147:34]uh have that too and we're trying to we're trying to sort
[147:37]something out at the moment right now we're working on hopefully a
[147:40]little app that we can use but you know those are embarrassing
[147:42]and even though we don't want to use them like the other
[147:46]day we had a marriage course over here we called it a
[147:48]marriage course but we were just trying to get people to know
[147:50]each other but we made them come because if we say it's
[147:53]like they're getting to know each other they're not going to come
[147:55]you know but we made a marriage course and then we had
[147:59]like groups where men when women were in a group and then
[148:00]I'll tell them who's going to do the chores debate and they'll
[148:04]debate and they can kind of see what a person is like
[148:06]and then afterwards I said to them tell me who you like
[148:10]and you know but here's the problem when I got them all
[148:12]they all told me who they liked who didn't like and no
[148:15]one accepted the other person I'm like okay I'm trying you know
[148:21]but the standards are high standards are high so we have to
[148:26]be realistic I'm not saying settle I'm saying know what you want
[148:30]from Marriage be realistic find the right person for you there are
[148:33]so many things I can talk about here like culture and languages
[148:35]and background and how to approach and you know sure I like
[148:40]the story sure I not like the story you know is that
[148:44]the way to do it but like we're in a modern era
[148:45]where that's not so bad it's not such a bad idea as
[148:52]long as as soon as you start talking you make your tensions
[148:54]very clear you know but yeah a lot of us are going
[148:56]to meet each other online it's not bad we shouldn't be embarrassed
[149:01]about that we shouldn't be shy about that that's going to happen
[149:04]but of course always be very clear about intentions you know if
[149:07]anything starts going sideways and flirtation and parents aren't involved and there's
[149:12]no third party involved there's a problem always have a third party
[149:14]involved especially the sisters because the guy is going to say he
[149:18]loves you and everything like that but don't tell your dad yet
[149:22]and whatever and then that's it he disappears you know all even
[149:29]worse so always have a third party there's so much I can
[149:30]say here this is a whole like three lectures that I can
[149:34]give but I'm just trying to give a little rundown that it's
[149:38]okay to be active about this this is important marriage is important
[149:41]don't just think about nasib as something that falls on your doorstep
[149:45]you have to you have to make it known that you exist
[149:48]I'm not saying post your pictures and be out there like that
[149:55]I'm saying like volunteering a mosque you know let someone know that
[149:59]you're there it's not a problem it's not it's not such a
[150:03]bad thing and I think that um if we if we can
[150:07]be more proactive about this and get people in our community especially
[150:09]within the community to get to know each other because they're not
[150:13]there's not too many of us there's not too many of us
[150:18]so it's important that within the community we know each other and
[150:21]and to intermarry to know people from other communities I'm not saying
[150:30]that's necessary it might be your preference to marry into your own
[150:33]culture and that's completely understandable it's like your preference for anything else
[150:40]but you'll notice that your community might not have such a wide
[150:44]pool of people and if you were to open up your horizons
[150:48]a little bit to other communities you might find the guy or
[150:50]girl you're looking for I'll be they speak a different language and
[150:53]eat different food and wear different clothes you know that might be
[150:56]something that you like it might be something that you don't but
[150:58]you have to sacrifice but you will definitely widen your pool though
[151:02]and I know our parents are gonna have a little thing to
[151:04]say about that but hey this is your whole life right now
[151:08]this is your whole life in store right now you know it's
[151:11]not about what's preferred only it's about you want to have get
[151:15]married and have children and you have to be quite active about
[151:18]that so it's a lot but hey look the chain of the
[152:04]chain is the real question is basically okay so there's two I'm
[153:02]just gonna have them ask yeah all right cool so um um
[153:06]my question is um what you mentioned in the beginning about intention
[153:10]um so a lot of people they have intention to do something
[153:16]and people I speak to they're more often now using intention as
[153:20]an excuse to avoid doing certain things so like oh I have
[153:26]you know Allah won't refuse my Salah if I don't follow the
[153:28]rules for Salah because my intention is there so they're using intention
[153:31]or they're near as as a as an excuse and using um
[153:38]kind of abusing their intention um as a way to justify them
[153:44]not doing actions so for example like they won't pray five times
[153:47]a day but but I'm close to Allah you know I have
[153:50]this relationship with Allah it's fine or they won't follow the rulings
[153:55]for willow it's fine Allah won't reject my Salah if I don't
[153:58]have the correct world or um how can you get into a
[154:03]discussion with these with people that think like this um without obviously
[154:06]coming across as more knowledgeable than them because like if we're an
[154:10]average person I don't want to be put in a place where
[154:14]I kind of agree with them but I also don't want to
[154:15]come across as like cocky or um you know act like I'm
[154:19]bigger than them um yeah what's the best way to like conversate
[154:21]with this with these kind of people foreign my question was if
[154:31]mad Affiliates to love so knowledge leads to love then how can
[154:34]we what are little things that we can do every day to
[154:39]increase our knowledge of Allah because we can't just read about him
[154:41]like we read about the prophets so how can we increase our
[154:46]Madison Allah so for the first question this is a common common
[154:58]Trope that people say and and there's a basic way to answer
[155:04]it in a more flesh that way to answer it and the
[155:05]fleshed out way people get bored of it but it's the real
[155:09]answer and the basic way through examples people like examples so you'd
[155:13]say all right I studied all year for the exam I know
[155:18]all the answers they're in my head when the exam came I
[155:20]didn't write down the answers do I pass the exam the answers
[155:24]are in my head though the answer is in my heart I
[155:27]still don't get the cream that's common sense you know that's the
[155:31]example I would use just because people like I can talk for
[155:34]an hour and they'll be like sitting like this then I use
[155:35]that really dumb example like ah you know like it's that's how
[155:42]people are so that's the one I always use for for whenever
[155:44]someone comes with this this question I'm like look you might know
[155:47]everything if you don't write it down on the exam you don't
[155:50]get the grade so if you're saying this is your intention what
[155:53]is it tell me what is your intention tell me you say
[155:58]it's my intent what is this amazing intention of yours and I
[156:01]say my intention uh what is it what is my intention really
[156:06]Austin when I say oh but it's Allah knows my intention be
[156:07]like you know what what is your intention they say you know
[156:11]Allah knows I love him and I will do what he says
[156:14]I'm like all right well he said do it the proper way
[156:15]so how can you intend to do something differently than what he
[156:21]said but the whole point is that you're intending to be close
[156:25]to Allah Allah said I want it to be done this way
[156:27]so how can I intend it differently this whole Allah idea is
[156:33]misused by the way I've got there's a whole article that I
[156:40]wrote against this many many years ago there was um an article
[156:43]that went viral of a sister that wrote practicing Islam in short
[156:46]shorts and she said I smoke weed I drink alcohol I wear
[156:51]short shorts everywhere but Islam is in my heart and Allah knows
[156:54]this and blah blah blah so I said viral and then we
[157:01]were like supposed to be on like some sort of debate thing
[157:04]I wasn't really interested but yeah that thing happened so if you
[157:06]want look for that it's on the Muslim Vibe practicing Islam in
[157:09]short shorts a response to that um so the whole idea of
[157:14]that article was that it was based on intentions and I wrote
[157:16]that well not really based on Islam in one two three four
[157:20]five but people don't really like to read the articles too long
[157:23]and it's boring so just use the whole uh you know exam
[157:26]question thing and that's a better way to to get the point
[157:30]across the beginning of Deen and religion is to know Allah so
[157:39]it should be pretty straightforward endeavor and that's why that's where you
[157:49]start he who knows himself knows his Lord so if you want
[157:56]to know Allah if you want to know about Akida if you
[157:59]want to know more about God and increase your mind if you
[158:04]need to increase modify of yourself because you are a mirror my
[158:06]sister you're a mirror you are created as a mirror to mirror
[158:13]the names of God in what you do in your forgiveness and
[158:16]in your anger in your happiness and in your sadness and in
[158:20]your grief that's why so much about his journey is to do
[158:22]with us this is why I mentioned knowledge being something by presence
[158:29]is of much more convincing value to you than reading about him
[158:35]on the outside when it's within and if you want to know
[158:40]more about that I would really recommend yeah not because it's me
[158:44]but I've given a series on this last year's Muharram series and
[158:47]this year's Muharram series was all about this last year was about
[158:51]he who knows himself knows Allah and this year too if you
[158:54]want watch my lectures just write in Al Iman Australia and my
[158:59]name and then the lectures will come up because I didn't I
[159:01]didn't post them I didn't make I didn't advertise them so no
[159:06]one knows they're there but if you type in Australia al-iman and
[159:09]Hussein Mackie there's 10 lectures on this on knowing god through knowing
[159:15]yourself and increase in that and there's a certain practice about that
[159:18]you find it within yourself so I would begin there and there
[159:24]are books written on this it's just that they're hard to access
[159:28]in the Arabic language but they're there and they're books that not
[159:31]tell you what to think they're books that trigger what to think
[159:35]because it's supposed to be coming from you so when you start
[159:39]to see for example for example after I had my daughter I
[159:44]found out so much more about Allah because when I saw my
[159:49]daughter how needy she is of me and how when I hold
[159:53]her the way she responds and how she sees me as someone
[159:54]she has hope in that's going to feed her when she's hungry
[159:59]and clean her when she's dirty and put her to sleep and
[160:01]when she's ill she stepped on my chest the whole night she
[160:04]wouldn't let go and I learned so much more about me and
[160:09]God and how much hope I have in Allah and how needy
[160:10]I am of him and your Allah this is how I am
[160:13]to you this is how you see me and this is how
[160:15]when when I ask you this question think of how you feel
[160:19]do you feel loved by Allah do you feel loved by God
[160:24]you do good good that probably means you had really good parents
[160:30]because people who grow up not being loved by their parents find
[160:34]it very hard to feel loved by Allah notice how these small
[160:40]little relationships in our lives reflect the bigger relationship it was always
[160:44]to do with me so when I don't feel Allah loves me
[160:46]but I'm a good person I do everything right why is that
[160:49]that's to do with me the more I find out about myself
[160:52]through my mirrors my relationships with my spouse my children my parents
[160:59]my friends myself my relationship with my own self as in when's
[161:03]the last time I said I don't know why I said that
[161:06]when's the last time that I was alienated from myself when I
[161:10]didn't know what I was saying why why am I alienated why
[161:11]is it by myself I don't understand when I understand that I
[161:14]get to know more about God and it's an infinite infinite puzzle
[161:17]by the way you keep going into deeper deeper layers and then
[161:20]you just have so much certainty and God knowledge by presence thank
[161:37]you guys for coming thank you so much for having me inshallah
