[4:03]total of three hundred and sixty thousand pounds make sure the name
[4:10]of imam hussain alayhi salaam shall continue to echo throughout the ages
[4:14]of time help spread the message of imam hussain alaihi salaam be
[4:17]a part of the movement and be a part of the legacy
[4:21]of imam hussain alaihi salam today [Music] hmm [Music] [Music] is [Applause]
[5:27][Music] is [Music] [Music] [Music] be [Music] and to the shrine and
[7:17]the grave of imam al-hussein alaihissalam has no doubt become a symbol
[7:22]for many of the followers of him in the past 15 years
[7:30]or so indeed one of the greatest honors that anyone could ever
[7:35]have is to be able to walk and visit the shrine of
[7:37]imam al-hussein one of the wishes which many people hope for in
[7:45]their life to come true is to be able to visit the
[7:49]shrine of the imam and to visit the shrine of abel and
[7:53]the shrine of the rest of the martyrs of the tenth of
[7:57]muharram and did you find millions upon millions of visitors who come
[8:03]together in this period the period of the 40th in mourning imam
[8:09]hussain alaihissalam indeed no doubt this is the largest gathering in the
[8:14]islamic world one would assume normally that hajj would be the largest
[8:18]gathering in the muslim world but we know very well that hajj
[8:23]has a few million people who are able to visit the house
[8:26]of their lord whereas when it comes to kerbal sometimes the nimbus
[8:30]that are brought together and the numbers that are estimated are between
[8:35]15 to 20 million people over the period of a month and
[8:39]these people aren't just visitors to the shrine of imam al-hussein who
[8:43]have come from najaf for example or have come from baghdad for
[8:49]example you may find people who have come from the southern part
[8:51]of iraq from basra for example or from talafa for example or
[8:57]you may find a plethora of nationalities who have come together to
[9:00]visit the imam for example when you are there walking towards imam
[9:04]al-hussein you may be walking next to someone on your right-hand side
[9:10]from senegal on your left-hand side from thailand in front of you
[9:14]from kenya behind you from australia it's unbelievable the number of nationalities
[9:19]that come in the period of the 40th of imam al-hussein to
[9:24]honor him to honor his family members and to honor his companions
[9:28]as in anyone who has walked will tell you that you'll see
[9:33]a number of flags these flags represent the lovers of imam al-hussein
[9:37]who have come far and wide they've come from far and wide
[9:41]to honor the message of imam al-hussein and show their respect to
[9:48]the imam and unfortunately you find that the media has not covered
[9:53]this in the way that this deserves to be covered while many
[9:56]times when islam has an event with negative connotations will go straight
[10:02]on to the media when it's an event with positive meaning and
[10:05]a positive message hardly ever do you see this in the world
[10:10]media as in you find for example if there's a terrorist attack
[10:13]automatically it's in the media suddenly muslims are labeled as fundamentalists as
[10:21]radicals but when it comes to such a gathering a peaceful gathering
[10:23]a gathering where for example one sees patience and generosity and sacrifice
[10:30]hardly ever do we see this in the world media sometimes that
[10:33]may be our fault that we don't have enough people in the
[10:36]world media who give us a voice the reality is that there
[10:39]are many of us who go into the medical profession there are
[10:43]some of us who may go into the legal profession others who
[10:46]may go towards the world of finance or engineering but how many
[10:49]times do you hear from our communities that there are journalists for
[10:52]example or filmmakers for example alhamdulillah in recent years we've seen the
[10:58]rise of channels for example imam hussain tv and other channels who
[11:02]are doing fantastic work in order that such a walk is shown
[11:07]to the whole world but the reality is that next week for
[11:10]example when everybody gathers around the shrine of imam al-hussein you'll still
[11:16]find that there are many millions in the world who don't know
[11:18]about this walk they may know for example at the time of
[11:21]hajj there are a few million people who go to mecca but
[11:25]when you tell them that there are 15 million muslims or 20
[11:28]million muslims who go towards karbala and might i add non-muslims because
[11:34]imam al-hussein message and principles are not just for muslims imam al-hussein's
[11:39]message is the message which every human being can relate to i've
[11:46]seen priests who have come to karabella i've seen members from the
[11:50]hindu faith for example come to karbala i've seen people of different
[11:54]paths come towards karbala and each and every one of them speaking
[11:57]about just how inspirational the walk on the 40th to imam hussein
[12:03]was for them how it affected them how it influenced them and
[12:07]how they wish that more people in the world would know about
[12:10]this walk to karbala so they will find that there are people
[12:13]who come from different nationalities people outside of the religion of islam
[12:18]who just want to have a taste of what's happening when people
[12:23]come all the way to imam hussain but sadly there remain those
[12:29]who either don't have a clue about this walk to imam al-hussein
[12:33]or there remain those who are skeptical about walking to imam al-hussein
[12:38]on the one hand you have those who don't know about the
[12:43]walk to imam al-hussein there are many non-shia muslims in the world
[12:48]today who haven't got the foggiest about the walk to imam of
[13:05]course we adore him we admire him then when you tell them
[13:08]do you commemorate what took place on the 10th of muharram do
[13:13]you know what happened after the 10th of muharram to the family
[13:17]of in rasulallah and all the way to sham you find that
[13:22]there are many who are oblivious to this there are many who
[13:29]purposely have people around them who don't want them introduced to this
[13:33]walk of lovers to this walk of the passionate why because they'll
[13:37]recognize the message of imam al-hussein the reality of the message and
[13:41]just how many millions are attracted to it so on the one
[13:45]hand there are those who don't know about asiyara to on the
[13:48]other hand there are those even within our school those who are
[13:53]shira who will say to you that why should we walk to
[13:57]imam al-hussein what is this people walking from najif to karbala or
[14:02]from basra to karbala or from baghdad to karabella or from even
[14:08]parts of iran crossing the border all the way to karbala or
[14:12]there are people who may even come from further they say what
[14:17]is this now we've made this a culture which is a form
[14:19]of an innovation this is a bidder this was never part and
[14:22]parcel of our practice that we honor somebody for example by walking
[14:30]towards them or we honor someone who may have gone on such
[14:33]a journey of walking to karabella you'll find that even there are
[14:38]those who may take groups to karabella but will purposely tell the
[14:41]members of their group that we don't enter such walks we don't
[14:45]participate in such walks we'll take our bus from najef towards carabella
[14:50]and that's the vision for us we've got a hotel waiting for
[14:53]us in kerbela this idea that if you walk to imam al-hussein
[14:58]then this is a spiritual act and an act which is rewarded
[15:05]by allah they say that no such traditions exist that there isn't
[15:09]any mention of walking to imam al-hussein and therefore you'll find them
[15:23]actually telling their people that we don't need to participate in such
[15:26]things we get to iraq we'll visit the shrine of imam alayale
[15:29]we'll visit the shrine of imam al-hussein alaihissalam we may go for
[15:32]example but there's no need for any of you to stop at
[15:38]what are known as mawakib or different stops serving food to people
[15:42]sitting down with people talking to people holding flags walking this whole
[15:46]journey this is not something which the bait would have wanted us
[15:52]to have done rather they pushed them away from such a tradition
[15:55]therefore tonight i'd like to examine this this particular walk to imam
[16:03]al-hussein and the walk to karabakh by the millions and i'd like
[16:05]to see whether this is grounded in tradition whether such things are
[16:09]grounded within the quran or within the world of a hadith and
[16:14]within rational convention and i'd like to do this in the following
[16:20]stages number one which ladies walk from one mountain to another became
[16:24]a ritual within islamic law and an obligatory practice number two how
[16:29]do all the schools in islam agree that the more footsteps taken
[16:34]towards the house of god the more sins are erased by god
[16:38]number three ever mention of the arab and walking to the shrine
[16:50]of imam number four what did they mention about each step that
[16:54]is taken and how do they mention that you become amongst the
[17:00]muslim and you become amongst those who are the moon jahan on
[17:05]the day of judgement and what are these categories that they speak
[17:09]about number five did any of the companions of rasulullah go to
[17:17]the grave of imam al-hussein on the 40th of imam hussain and
[17:22]can their action be taken as a hood by us number six
[17:26]on the day of judgement will allah ask us about every step
[17:31]we've taken on this earth shouldn't we then make sure that our
[17:33]feet walk towards halal and not towards haram number seven is it
[17:38]rational convention for people to walk towards a particular target is this
[17:44]seen as something meritorious that the longer the walk to a certain
[17:48]place the more honorable in society and how can we see this
[17:52]in society around us number eight and of the utmost importance how
[17:56]did saddam hussein seek to stop the walk to karabella and how
[18:01]did he execute those who walked to imam al-hussein from 1977 until
[18:10]the re-emergence in 2003 and finally how does imam assad especially those
[18:19]who have faced difficulty on that ziara and how would he always
[18:23]remember what his great progeny and his forefathers went through in karbala
[18:31]kufa and sham let's examine this and dissect the topic in complete
[18:36]depth can a walk by a particular figure in history really be
[18:40]seen that high by allah as in can someone walking from one
[18:46]place to another become part of islamic heritage no doubt if a
[18:49]person was to look at the act of hajj they'll find that
[18:53]within the act of hajj there is a particular walk which all
[18:57]of us have to honor otherwise our hajj is incomplete which walk
[19:00]the walk of bibi the wife of nabi ibrahim and the mother
[19:08]of ismail as we know she reached a certain trial in her
[19:16]life that trial that she faced was a trial where she had
[19:19]her child and her child was thirsty at the end of the
[19:23]day no mother wants to see her child thirsty and in a
[19:28]difficult moment you find that allah subhanahu wa ta'ala tested abraham's wife
[19:32]with her baby boy with ismail salam when the pangs of thirst
[19:37]began to affect isma'il hajjal wandered in this barren land where am
[19:44]i going to get any water as then i look around me
[19:47]and i see this barren land known as mecca where can i
[19:51]find any water in this barren land it's not like today where
[19:56]we had a certain flow of water in the land at that
[19:58]time you didn't have that flow of water and so hydra wandered
[20:04]from one mountain to another a small mountain or hilltop by the
[20:08]name of suffer and the other one by the name of marwa
[20:11]she went from one to the other walking from safa to marwa
[20:17]at a certain juncture she even jogged a little bit she continued
[20:21]walking came back walked again came back how many times did she
[20:26]do this she did this on seven occasions from safa marwa safa
[20:30]marwa safa marwa safa when she did this therefore what do we
[20:35]find we find that when she did this stopping at marwa suddenly
[20:40]we found an emergence of water that came to her that emergence
[20:44]of more water what was it called zamzam emerged for her the
[20:50]moment it emerged there was this spring of water that was there
[20:54]for her baby moving from that mountain to another one would think
[21:00]that this lady is only walking from one area to another there's
[21:04]no way that her walk would become an act which is wide
[21:07]for each and every one of us yet subhanallah when you look
[21:12]at islamic law and you look at every school in islamic law
[21:15]you find it's obligatory for them to do say don't you agree
[21:20]i said when you go to hajj or umrah after you've done
[21:24]tawaf and you've done the units of prayer after tawaf where do
[21:26]you go next towards safa and marwah to honor by walking from
[21:34]one mountain top to another not just walking there are moments where
[21:39]you may have the where you will jog for example walk a
[21:42]bit faster in the middle you ask allah allah that lady all
[21:48]she did was walk her walking from one place to another why
[21:51]did you have to make this an institution for us why did
[21:55]you need to make it a tradition for us one level was
[22:00]highlighting to us the struggle that every human being faces that if
[22:04]you look at your life and recognize there are certain moments where
[22:08]a struggle will take place eventually you can meet your target as
[22:11]long as you can persevere in that struggle on the one hand
[22:16]there's the spirituality of her walk meaning the struggle that was undertaken
[22:20]by her then on the other hand what did you have on
[22:24]the other hand that wanted us to likewise walk in the way
[22:30]that she walked in the same way that she had to walk
[22:33]from one place to another part of our empathy with her struggle
[22:38]and our recognition of the difficulties that she was facing was it
[22:43]easy for you knowing your baby any second you will not hear
[22:46]their voice again any second they're gonna die from thirst was it
[22:50]easy for her no it wasn't okay it wasn't easy for her
[22:53]she passed the test yeah allah why do i have to go
[22:57]through that allah wanted to build within me a sense of empathy
[23:00]build within me a sense of gratitude build within me a sense
[23:07]of recognition of sacrifice i could easily just look at the two
[23:10]mountains and hajj i could look at them for example that's safar
[23:13]that's marwah oh that's where hajjal walk no walk like she walked
[23:18]honor what she honored empathize with what she went through god wanted
[23:24]to build within us a sense of empathy that i look at
[23:28]my life i may not face these trials but let me for
[23:32]a moment taste the feeling of walking from one to another if
[23:36]i don't do this is my hajj complete of course it's not
[23:42]complete my hajj is incomplete if i don't do the same between
[23:44]safa and but ya allah has just to walk i all i
[23:49]could also just for example shed some tears for her i could
[23:52]for example read a ziada for her no walk where she walked
[23:56]honor what she honored i want you to show reverence to that
[24:00]area because you know if a person intentionally does not do the
[24:07]psy then what they are doing in terms of hajj and umrah
[24:10]may be incomplete whereas if a person for example unintentionally then they
[24:14]may do it for example according to different schools later on for
[24:18]example but what you have here is that that lady allah decided
[24:24]to mention her movement in the quran in surah 2 verse 158
[24:36]these two mountains are from the signs of allah not just the
[24:44]signs i want you to move between these two mountains yes you
[24:47]go towards one come back towards another move again come back move
[24:51]again come up be careful that you don't do it 14 times
[24:53]we had someone who came with us hajj once and he was
[24:57]getting a bit out of breath and he was saying that you
[24:58]know i don't know what the problem is we said to him
[25:01]it's only seven he said hold on a minute i think i've
[25:05]done 14.
[25:03]no it's only seven times but those walk that step every step
[25:08]you take is a step recorded by the angels for the day
[25:12]of judgment isn't it i'm moving from two mountains literally how about
[25:17]if i move towards two mountains one called hussein and the other
[25:21]called abbas are there true mountains like abba al-fatlan when i walk
[25:27]towards them every step if the steps for safa and marwah are
[25:30]recorded by allah you're telling me that my steps between say this
[25:37]are not recorded by allah therefore you found that for us in
[25:43]the quran allah highlighted that don't dismiss the steps that a lady
[25:50]took if hajar was the lady at that time zainab became hajjan
[25:53]from karbala to go for sherman back to karbala in the same
[25:57]way that hajjar saw a baby in front of her with the
[26:01]thirst and the pangs of thirst did not zaynab see babies with
[26:04]the pangs of thirst without water being given to them in the
[26:09]same way hajjar taught us struggle likewise therefore when my intention is
[26:17]what my intention is that i'm honoring hajjar i'm performing an act
[26:22]which is obligatory with that i'm recognizing that every step that she
[26:26]took is a step which is rewarded by allah when i take
[26:32]it at hajj therefore on the first level islam and the quran
[26:35]have already highlighted that walking from one place to another can be
[26:39]seen as one of the most meritorious acts of worship in the
[26:42]religion number two and that's why you find in shii and sunni
[26:48]literature the steps that you take to the mosque are praised by
[26:52]allah but the further you walk the more praise you get by
[26:54]the lord in which way because you know some people what will
[26:57]they say they say listen these traditions about ziyarah ziyarov imam we
[27:02]all agree on and the idea of walking okay you walk from
[27:06]your hotel to imam hussain that we all agree on no one's
[27:10]stopping you if you want to get to karbala for example buy
[27:14]car or buy bus or even if you want to land one
[27:18]day at the airport of carabella when it's built eventually then you
[27:21]could do that there's no problem but you found that in all
[27:24]the different schools in islam there was a recognition that the further
[27:28]you walk to one of the houses of allah the more reward
[27:34]you received and the higher your status in the eyes of allah
[27:37]if you look for example in sahih muslim let's see other schools
[27:42]in islam in sahih muslim you have traditions from abu hurairah and
[27:45]from abu musa that if you want to see your sins forgiven
[27:55]look at the relationship when i come to the hadith of a
[28:00]liberate on walking to imam al-hussein if you want to see your
[28:03]sins erased many of us have many sins that we've collected i
[28:07]hope that these sins are erased before i die muslim the tradition
[28:12]from abu huraira mentions that your sins being erased allah will erase
[28:18]your sins raise you to a higher status if you do three
[28:23]things what are those three when you do in difficult circumstances you
[28:28]know sometimes there are circumstances when a person becomes lazy when it
[28:32]comes to doing what the weather might be cold or you're making
[28:34]excuses why you can't do although oh you know what i've woken
[28:37]up i don't want to lose my sleep you'll hear some people
[28:39]even say things like this there may be difficult circumstances for example
[28:43]where you are in a position of difficulty maybe even your life's
[28:47]under threat other laws may come in so he says number one
[28:49]when you're you're doing it in difficult circumstances number two when you
[28:55]are waiting to pray after having performed a previous prayer or another
[29:00]prayer and number three the steps the number of steps that you
[29:05]take towards the mosque so he says therefore that it's not just
[29:09]about going to the mosque your sins are erased for each step
[29:12]that you take in walking towards the mosque then abu musa ash
[29:18]ali mentions no not just the number of steps he says the
[29:24]one who gets rewarded the most is the one who's taken the
[29:31]furthest distance to come towards the mosque if i live next door
[29:33]to the mosque and i wake up for fajr is it the
[29:36]same as the person who's walked 15 minutes i live next door
[29:39]to the mosque i can just wake up alarm clocks opened up
[29:41]for me it's reminding me all of a sudden i walk into
[29:44]the mosque that person who walks 15 minutes you found that he
[29:50]says the ones who have walked the furthest distance are the ones
[29:57]who are rewarded the most by allah logically that makes sense if
[30:01]someone's near is pure that person has walked such a long distance
[30:04]to the house of god easily shaytan can make you have certain
[30:08]excuses that you know what not today maybe tomorrow i'm not sure
[30:11]i'll just pray at home for someone to walk from street to
[30:15]street from avenue to avenue from road to road just to come
[30:19]into the house of allah when someone now goes on a long
[30:23]journey to your house you appreciate that these people have come from
[30:26]far and wide you want to show them the best hospitality likewise
[30:30]for his own creation if they've taken this long distance you found
[30:37]that even a non-shia tradition the longer that you've walked the more
[30:43]reward you get from allah subhana wa therefore on the second level
[30:47]you have this that on the first the walk of hajjar safa
[30:52]marwah on the second the longer you've walked to the house of
[30:55]allah and we know that the shrine of imam al-hussein is one
[30:59]of the houses of allah so i who's walked from najaf to
[31:03]karbala for i've done a three-day walk you know anyone can do
[31:08]three days but then there are those who've done 10 days there
[31:10]are those who've done 15 days there are those who are double
[31:12]my age with walking sticks who teach me the meaning of strength
[31:19]and perseverance and teach me the meaning of patience and the meaning
[31:23]of sacrifice look at how many wonderful spiritual traits emerge in the
[31:28]human being when you're walking these long distances to imam hussain question
[31:36]therefore did the weight comment on doing this did they comment on
[31:40]walking to the shrine of imam hussain did they comment on what
[31:44]happens to the one who walks to the shrine of imam al-hussein
[31:47]if one studies books such as you'll find numerous traditions from imam
[31:57]assad where the imam elaborates on all of these what are these
[32:02]traditions on the first tradition when someone says that they even mentioned
[32:06]ziyarat al-arab because normally we talk of the masoor ziara we talk
[32:09]for example 15th of shaman we talk of arafah and we talk
[32:17]of the arby's imam tells safwan jamal about visiting imam al-hussein on
[32:24]the arab of imam al-hussein and saying assalamualaikum when you get there
[32:33]on the 40th by saying salams on the guardian of allah's message
[32:37]and the son of his so we have on the first level
[32:47]discusses walking and the steps and the number of steps taken and
[32:55]what reward you receive because i don't mind if someone says to
[32:57]me that listen this year i'm not going to walk to imam
[33:02]al hussein necessarily from a long distance i want to go towards
[33:05]a hotel and then go to the shrine there's no problem in
[33:10]that at all no one's stopping you but don't mock those who've
[33:14]decided to walk to say this because they want to empathize with
[33:17]what he went through like we empathize in the hijra with what
[33:20]hajar went through when you see for example imam assad he tells
[33:27]his companions and you'll find this within kamil ziyarat and other traditions
[33:31]when his companions ask him about ziyarat al hussein he answers them
[33:38]what does he say he says and if you are walking to
[33:44]imam hussain for every step that you take allah rewards you allah
[33:55]writes for you a reward for every step you take and erases
[34:04]sin for every step you take imagine look how merciful allah is
[34:11]for every step i take allah rewards me and erases my sins
[34:16]because i've gone towards the shrine of imam al-hussein alaihissalam he then
[34:24]says that when you get to al-husseini say you get for example
[34:27]around the hussain around the sari you get near there and say
[34:35]you recite for example ziara of imam al-hussein by the shrine the
[34:38]moment you have done this you become of the muffle and the
[34:46]moon who are these people the people of and the people of
[34:50]najaf because you could both terms could be translated as the successful
[34:53]ones but there's a difference one of them you become successful in
[34:58]your act in dunya the other you've captured dunya and akhirah when
[35:03]you're a person of niger a person for example in jabalem tihan
[35:07]you have an exam you passed that exam you might for example
[35:11]be successful with your home life you might be successful with your
[35:14]work life dunya areas you have now been victorious in your dunya
[35:19]there was a particular target and you passed the test of that
[35:23]target fella no that is when you have passed the test of
[35:28]understanding the very meaning of your creation when imam assad says those
[35:35]who reach the area so for every step you've taken allah look
[35:48]how merciful allah is and look how ungrateful i am how many
[35:52]doors does allah open for me to be given forgiveness to be
[35:57]given reward even visiting imam hussain and then he says after that
[36:02]they are of the muffle and of the moon imam makes it
[36:07]clear that you become of the successful one successful in your dunya
[36:10]and successful in your achara when you then finish these mana sick
[36:15]and you leave the shrine you know how when we enter the
[36:20]shrine of imam islam we go towards his grave we recite ziyarat
[36:23]and hussein we then turn around we may for example recite turok
[36:28]of salah then we walk outside when we walk outside we may
[36:32]then at that moment have completed he said the moment you then
[36:34]have finished your monastic you become of the faizine of the victorious
[36:40]ones now i am successful in dunya now i'm successful in sha
[36:44]allah and my achara now imam assad says and they become of
[36:50]the fire is in isn't that what i want we wish that
[36:57]we were alongside you for that is the greatest victory imam assad
[37:00]says you know how you say you wish you would be next
[37:04]to imam hussain go do his siara for every step that you
[37:06]take allah writes for you a reward and allah erases a sin
[37:13]for you all the sins are then removed then at that moment
[37:17]you are of the people of don't we and adhan always come
[37:26]towards that which brings you success in this world only no in
[37:30]the hereafter likewise in the sense it's one of the acts that
[37:36]brings you success so now i've come towards imam al-hussein shrine i've
[37:41]walked for every step that i've taken allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala is telling
[37:47]those angels reward for every step the one who has walked from
[37:52]their hotel to the shrine of saying alhamdulillah many of their sins
[37:57]are forgiven and at the same time they are rewarded the one
[38:00]who decided you know what i want to empathize a bit more
[38:03]with zainab and the sisters of zainab then what then i'm just
[38:09]gonna come back maybe i'll start from let's say paul 1 200.
[38:14]let's say then there may be others who will say no i
[38:17]want to start by who by visiting imam then going to imam
[38:23]hussain then there may be those who say no no no i'm
[38:26]going to come all the way from basra or from austria or
[38:29]from samara or diwani or wherever they want to come from there
[38:32]are others no there are others from the moment they've left home
[38:36]they've made a near that i'm going to say this wherever they're
[38:41]walking from already allah is rewarding them why because the moments i've
[38:46]got to that shrine the moment i've got there imam says you
[38:50]finish the monastic around the hussaini you walk away you are of
[38:57]the muffler of the moon of the pharisee and then he says
[39:01]at that moment allah orders an angel to come and say what
[39:08]and say that i have come with salams from rasulullah for you
[39:14]imagine assalam from the holy prophet peace be upon him and his
[39:20]family because i have done ziyarah till hussein is there a bigger
[39:24]honor in life than having a salam and that rasulullah happens when
[39:29]allah sends the angel and that angel comes to the prophet the
[39:32]prophet says to the angel i want you from this day onwards
[39:39]to forgive them and that they start with a fresh blank slate
[39:43]again just because they've come for ziarat and hussein and they've undertaken
[39:49]this journey in order to get closer to allah then my salams
[39:55]are sent two he told us for every step we take what
[40:13]is happening our sins are being erased and allah subhanahu wa ta'ala
[40:18]is rewarding us and the angels are now all around us look
[40:23]at the spirituality when they therefore tell us about something it becomes
[40:36]not just culture it becomes part of the religion yes i cannot
[40:41]force you that if you don't walk this year that means you
[40:44]haven't felt ziados and everyone is entitled to do what they want
[40:47]to do if a group of you want to walk all the
[40:48]way let them walk if a group of you don't want to
[40:53]walk everyone and their knee is with allah you cannot force people
[40:56]that if you don't walk with us you are not in our
[40:59]group or in our cafe not at all but the imams would
[41:03]say for every step taken you are forgiven so maybe a person
[41:06]may want to make use of such hadith other schools in islam
[41:09]say the act of a companion of rasulallah we say the act
[41:18]of the imams of ahil bait for us and we have certain
[41:23]companions as well whose actions may be a hajj for us but
[41:26]the beige we value higher and we see them higher theologically other
[41:30]schools say no even hajar for example says that the acts of
[41:34]the companions of rasulallah are okay did any companion of rasulallah visit
[41:42]imam al-hussein of imam hussain was there any who came all on
[41:49]a long journey not on a plane ride didn't go and checking
[41:52]into a hotel in kerbela at that time no he left for
[41:56]example the lands of the hijaz and came all the way to
[42:03]karbala where were their meetings of their meetings was on the arb
[42:35]when jabber undertook the journey from the land of the hijaz all
[42:40]the way to where and we think we are something special walking
[42:44]from najaf was born around the time of imam imam if i'm
[42:58]not mistaken even named him he was like a gift from allah
[43:03]his name was he was with jabbar ben abdullah ansari they were
[43:08]the ones who came on the arb what a journey what a
[43:11]distance i ask you how many days does it take in those
[43:14]days for a person to go from medina let's say for example
[43:18]from mecca let's say towards canada is it an overnight thing not
[43:23]at all why would jabber do this unless jabber [Music] i don't
[43:40]ask from you anything except love for my family number three if
[43:45]jabber felt there was no need to come on these long journeys
[43:47]then he could have said because you know we could do ziara
[43:53]from the rooftops of our houses if you live in london for
[43:56]example or you live in newport for example or you live in
[43:59]birmingham for example or you live in bradford for example from the
[44:02]roof of your house or from your house from your mouth from
[44:04]a part of your imam you say salaam why have you gone
[44:09]all the way for what reason if the act of a sahabi
[44:15]is jabber bin abdullah not one of the sahaba bin abdullah with
[44:19]on the arabian atletico i'll be discussing in the forthcoming nights was
[44:24]it one year and 40 days or was it 40 days after
[44:28]karbala i'll discuss the different opinions as to whether they came back
[44:33]to karabella a year later or 40 days later but suffice for
[44:36]me that jabra comes towards the grave of muhammad islam he knows
[44:40]that every step he's taken is a step rewarded by allah subhanahu
[44:45]wa ta'ala for you have gone to the land of the lovers
[44:48]and you've come towards that land where the blood of said shahadah
[44:53]spilt on the earth and the blood of his companions and jabber
[44:57]comes and shows emotion not just i've gone on ziara so that
[45:01]i go on a walk and i chill with my friends and
[45:04]i take selfies nonstop and then we chill again and then we
[45:08]just talk about dunya we affairs rather i come towards the grave
[45:13]of imam i may come disheveled i'm in tears i feel a
[45:17]bit of the pain the same way i feel hajjar's pain from
[45:21]safa to marwah i feel the pain of hussain the pain of
[45:24]abbas the pain of qasim the pain of akbar the pain of
[45:29]rabbah the pain of other ladies your surcanas and your rokayas and
[45:33]all those who went i feel some of that pain i want
[45:37]to empathize with some of that pain jabar abdullah also recognizes that
[45:42]the earth of karbala has a barakah when he throws the earth
[45:44]on his face he also wants to shout out habibia hussein because
[45:48]he wants to show the love he has for imam al-hussein that
[45:52]even if my house is far say this there is nothing too
[45:57]far for you say this wherever you are wherever we are we'll
[46:01]travel far and wide so that we're able to come towards your
[46:04]grave and say la bay hussain with our heads not necessarily held
[46:09]high sometimes i come on that ziara as a purifier for me
[46:12]so that i may repent and that's why mama says every step
[46:18]you take allah writes a reward and erases a sin he knows
[46:21]that this is a spiritual act that you are performing and we
[46:27]know further than this that in the quran allah makes something very
[46:30]clear for us these feet will speak on the day of judgment
[46:35]these feet and these hands they'll all speak on the day of
[46:40]judgment about how we use them did we use them in halal
[46:44]or in haram how many of you have read the eye on
[46:45]surat yahya see in surah 36 verse number 65 on that day
[46:59]their mouths was all locked up all sealed what's going to speak
[47:05]these will speak and these will speak either i use them in
[47:08]the way allah asked me as the trust used them in halal
[47:12]or i use them in haram my hands i could use and
[47:18]met him and i look forward to meeting allah and saying that
[47:22]i beat my chest remembering the chest that was trampled on by
[47:28]the horses on the 10th of muharram i could use them in
[47:29]this i could use them in serving food look at the service
[47:34]of food and the way food is given when people walk to
[47:39]imam some people who have no money i promise you there are
[47:44]people who have begged us to eat with them little do we
[47:46]realize that in some cases they've managed to save up the whole
[47:51]year just to serve us and of course that's the generosity that
[47:56]continues from imam al-hussein when he purchased karbala and said this is
[48:01]for my zwar that my zorah will come here one day i
[48:04]want to purchase this land look at the generosity from paul to
[48:09]paul please come and eat fruits his fruits dates his dates rice
[48:13]and curries here's rice and curry to the extent that people just
[48:19]want to use that to massage your feet they just want to
[48:22]use their hands to massage your feet because they recognize that if
[48:26]these hands are going to speak let me say that i massage
[48:32]the feet of one who was going to honor the son of
[48:38]the quran says your hands will speak and what else does the
[48:43]quran say the quran then says likewise your feet will speak how
[48:46]many times have these feet walk to a place of haram walked
[48:49]into an area of clubbing went and took drugs with friends these
[48:54]feet walk towards an area where i ended up drinking with others
[48:58]these feet went towards areas where i went against the commands of
[49:01]allah and the obedience to my parents who have brought me up
[49:05]with the love of imam allah instead what can i do i
[49:09]could say i use these feet to walk to imam al-hussein wouldn't
[49:12]you look forward to death knowing you walked and used these feet
[49:16]to go to imam hussain because there are many they always say
[49:20]don't talk about death or lectures on death because death is scary
[49:22]if i've used my feet to walk to imam al hussein and
[49:26]i've used my hand in the service of imam and said why
[49:29]should i fear death for what reason at the end the quran
[49:32]is telling me that on the day of judgment your feet will
[49:35]speak and your hands will speak ya allah these hands don't matter
[49:39]hussain and these people walk towards the shrine of imam hussain and
[49:41]that's why it saddens me that there are many for example in
[49:45]the communities in london you ask them have you been to kerabana
[49:49]they haven't in the uk there are many if you tell them
[49:52]dubai straight away i'm on it if you tell them somewhere in
[49:54]europe i'm on it you tell them a far resort they're on
[49:59]it ask them have you done ziyarah till hussain when i say
[50:02]this why because you're missing out on the treasures if your mind
[50:07]is purely business you know imam ali says there are three types
[50:10]of worshipers the one who worships you oh god out of fear
[50:13]of hell that's the worship of a slave the one who worships
[50:15]you because they want heaven it's the worship of a businessman and
[50:18]the one who worships you because they found you worthy of being
[50:21]worshipped that's the worship of a free human being okay be a
[50:25]businessman business man of the verilies that recognize that you have a
[50:29]chance to go to one of the houses of allah and the
[50:31]rewards are there that the angels pray for you and that your
[50:36]prayers are multiplied by thousands depending on your marathon of the imam
[50:40]when you visit him it's so sad when you see that there
[50:43]are many members of the communities here in the uk and around
[50:48]the world you tell them have you been saying have you been
[50:54]scared many of these will say to you is dangerous you ask
[50:57]them what other countries they've been to they've been to half the
[50:59]axis of evil and they find going to iraq as dangerous why
[51:02]we have to be there in numbers how many of us are
[51:06]disappointed that we could not be in kerbela this year if you
[51:10]don't feel disappointment reassess your spirituality i ask you this and i
[51:14]say this to you sincerely if you find it normal that you're
[51:18]not at karbala at least once a year you must reassess your
[51:21]spirituality for karabella what is it the greatest table spread of generosity
[51:26]is the arab of imam hussain and the greatest hospital for one's
[51:34]soul is the hussain so therefore if you find it normal that
[51:37]you know what i income i'll buy and go fifteen shaban come
[51:41]fifteen shabban go out of uh the day of arafah comes day
[51:44]of alpha goes i don't really miss karabella there's a major problem
[51:50]there because the lover of say this never ever is in that
[51:53]position imam assad is asked how many times should we visit imam
[51:56]al-hussein he says twice a year someone said mawla but it's expensive
[52:01]he said then save up on other things and visit imam hussain
[52:06]because he was trying to tell us that you want your soul
[52:11]to be purified go to the hospital of say this sit next
[52:14]to him and gaze towards and feel feel the emotion but feel
[52:22]the energy feel the spirituality and for a moment think of akbar
[52:27]and then reminisce about qasim and then open your heart to zainab
[52:32]we take photos with our phones take the best photo you'll ever
[52:37]take is with your soul in front of the shrine of imam
[52:39]al-hussein therefore you found that some may turn around and say but
[52:44]this walk you know what it's not a culture that we want
[52:48]this is not something that we want in our traditions walking najaf
[52:51]karbala serving why not take me to a non-muslim in the uk
[52:56]say to them that we're gonna walk from one part of the
[53:00]uk to another we're gonna cycle from one part of the uk
[53:02]to another for charity wouldn't they say that's an unbelievable thing you're
[53:04]doing how many people walk london marathon boston marathon when they walk
[53:11]these does anyone tell them why you guys walking there's no need
[53:13]to walk they said no we're doing it for charity so that
[53:15]children are remembered who are facing difficulties so that the children are
[53:20]on it don't people say i'm doing the marathon can you sponsor
[53:22]me and they send you an email or a whatsapp please sponsor
[53:27]me i'm walking from this place to this place or a rational
[53:30]convention there is no issue on the first level when a person
[53:33]is saying that why are you doing all of these things we
[53:36]reply by saying that on the contrary we look around us rationally
[53:40]speaking nobody thinks that this is number two what's emerging from this
[53:42]walk is something beneficial for humanity don't you always talk humanity humanity
[53:48]isn't serving food humane isn't sitting in brotherhood with one another humane
[53:54]isn't help carrying each other humane is it helping the poor humane
[53:59]everything that comes from this walk is positivity and if there are
[54:05]negativities we can work on those negative issues and for example someone's
[54:07]but have you seen how much people throw trash away let's teach
[54:10]each other to that cleanliness is a part of faith we can
[54:14]all do ahmad will marrow and join it upon each other doesn't
[54:18]mean you have a negative outlook because one year you saw trash
[54:20]on the side someone says but you know what the iraqi people
[54:23]instead of looking after their families they save up the money for
[54:27]this yada okay so we can work on both these are people
[54:28]who have seen volume from which year from 1977.
[54:33]see the 77 here when i have 77 people ask me what's
[54:39]the 77 on your hand that you have 77 announcement made saddam
[54:44]hussein tells people of iraq anyone who walks to karabella will be
[54:50]killed and a group of lovers of imam al-hussein al-assam said no
[54:57]you're not going to stop us and even if it means we
[55:02]walk to imam hussain with our backpacks and we go towards that
[55:07]shrine never will we allow imam al-hussein to be left alone the
[55:11]same imam al-hussein who called out why do you think muhammad is
[55:34]there any helper to help us 77 and a group of them
[55:39]set out they were ready some of them were 13 years old
[55:45]some of them were in their 60s of them my uncle jason
[55:49]who passed away who had been executed because he was of those
[55:53]people of them who's with us in london many of you know
[55:57]in majulas al-husseini who does the walk on the 10th of muharram
[56:00]from marble arch all the way to trafalgar square ask him about
[56:07]77 ask him tell him what's happened in 77 saddam hussein knew
[56:13]stop this walk then you defuse the shia and if you defuse
[56:17]the shia then you can maintain your power and if it means
[56:20]you have to kill them kill them because the shia realized one
[56:25]thing we hold on to imam al-hussein more than any other school
[56:31]in islam we hold on to rasulullah there are many schools in
[56:35]islam who love imam hussain but don't do anything for him the
[56:38]whole year nothing for him but we love him he's the grand
[56:40]kid we look at the grandson we don't see grand kid that
[56:46]mentality of grandkid is not what we see we see grandson we
[56:52]see mama hussein as a young boy we see the 57 year
[56:57]old who said hey never will we be humiliated 77 and they
[57:00]went out and they got executed and others got executed in the
[57:05]80s they got executed in the 90s they got executed they had
[57:08]to take roots from the side just to get to the shrine
[57:10]of imam hussain why if walking from one mountain to another became
[57:15]part of islamic heritage then how about the man who saved that
[57:21]heritage we would never know safa and marwa the way imam zain
[57:24]labidin would say i am the son of mecca and minna zamzam
[57:27]and safa imam said when he would say this why would he
[57:30]say this because if it wasn't for my father none of you
[57:34]would know what safa marwah is imam saying abedin himself would be
[57:40]of those who would stand in front of yes he'd and when
[57:43]he'd stand in front of yazid he would make it clear to
[57:48]him i'm the son of mecca and mina and zamzam and safar
[57:50]and when he would say that jim why would he say that
[57:53]to make it clear that my father and what he did at
[57:55]carabella saved this religion and therefore you found that imam assad would
[58:02]always focus that you don't know how much reward you get for
[58:06]walking to say this and that's why you see muawiyah the son
[58:13]of wahab says i was one day with imam assad salaam and
[58:18]i saw him in his sujood crying and crying and crying he
[58:23]said when i saw him crying the way he was crying i
[58:27]asked him moala what were you reciting he said i was doing
[58:30]a dua forza hussain he said to him can you say the
[58:46]words to me he looked at him and he said yes and
[58:48]mother moon from the who spent money to go and see him
[59:13][Music] and they put their bodies in danger they put their bodies
[59:23]in danger knowing bombs could go off at any second just out
[59:26]of their love for us on the face of your prophet peace
[59:45]be upon him and his family mercy on those faces burned by
[60:02]the sun when you go to karbala that sun burns you imam
[60:04]assad says oh allah have mercy on those faces burned by the
[60:08]sun and have mercy on those eyes that shed their tears out
[60:19]of love for us have mercy on those hearts that burn when
[60:27]they remember us doesn't your heart burn when you remember the arrow
[60:30]in the neck of the six month old doesn't your heart burn
[60:34]when you remember akbar's fall or abbas arms or shimmer on the
[60:38]chest of hussein it burns each of us then he says is
[60:57]mercy on those cheeks and that rub themselves on the grave how
[61:06]many of us missed how many of us wish that we could
[61:14]rub our cheeks on the shrine of imam al-hussein how many of
[61:20]us wish we could sit next to babel our edge next to
[61:23]our belfast and he'd remember the plight of the daughters of rasulullah
[61:42]when we walk to karbala alhamdulillah we don't have chains around our
[61:48]hands we don't have chains from one neck to another i ask
[61:51]you about rukaiya the daughter of imam hussain i ask you about
[61:57]i ask you about the face of zainab i ask you about
[62:04]the cheeks of umukul zoom imam was living there with his wife
[62:19]and his daughters the abbasids wanted to end the time of imam
[62:24]assad so they burned the house of imam assad while it was
[62:29]on fire was picking up one daughter holding another going from one
[62:33]part of the house to the other he was trying to bring
[62:37]all the children of the house the grandchildren he had one daughter
[62:42]scream another cry a couple of days later the shia of the
[62:47]imam came to visit imam one of them came and said to
[63:06]him imam it's been a couple of days since the fire in
[63:09]your house and you all muhammad have the greatest of sabor why
[63:13]is it that you cry about what you saw in your house
[63:20]the imam looked towards him he said to him because when i
[63:27]saw my daughters running from one part of the house to the
[63:33]other and when i saw their dresses on fire my thoughts went
[63:37]baggy to karabella and that moment i remembered the daughters of rasulullah
[63:46]running from one to the other and that moment i remembered the
[63:52]cries of abbas that moment we remember the earrings that were pulled
[64:03]and that moment we remember the cheeks that were slapped at that
[64:09]moment we remember um of 1977 and all those who lost their
[64:35]lives in honor of the imam in honor of all of our
[64:41]homies of the originators of this medjlist in honor of imam hussain
[64:45]tv not their stuff we pray to allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that
[64:49]allah raises them and gives them the intercession of muhammad [Music] wherever
[65:13]you are with your children raise your hands let's continue to inculcate
[65:18]the love of imam [Music] [Music] [Music] yahushua [Music] hussain
