[0:00]the first of a series of sessions on and we will be
[0:09]discussing certain misconceptions against Shia Islam so we've done a series of
[0:16]Crash courses and sessions in the past we did for example which
[0:22]is building the foundations of Islam as a religion and then we
[0:29]did the where what are the what is wag and what is
[0:32]obligatory upon a Muslim the 10 the 10 branches of Faith however
[0:41]this would probably go a level further that was probably at a
[0:44]basic level now this is building on top of what we have
[0:47]already established especially in the and when you know the in the
[0:57]we discussed that one of the is belief in the IM the
[0:59]fourth one is the belief in the and is it opens the
[1:09]chapter and it opens the door for sh the belief in shm
[1:13]but the belief in shm is not just believing in the IM
[1:19]it's believing in the and the infallibility the issue of the issue
[1:23]of many many different beliefs and as we know the Shia are
[1:29]a minority within the Muslims and there are many many misconceptions there
[1:35]are many accusations uh about shiism about and here the reason for
[1:43]these misconceptions there are several reasons for these misconceptions one of the
[1:46]first reason reasons for misconceptions and this is not only misconceptions about
[1:52]shiism but this could be also misconceptions about Islam or misconceptions about
[1:58]anything anything right now for example I think of a group of
[2:02]people I think of of a country I think of a a
[2:06]type of anything I might have beliefs that are wrong about that
[2:10]so one of the first reasons is ignorance because there's a lot
[2:15]of ignorance regarding Islam there's a lot of ignorance regarding shiism that
[2:20]is one of the reasons why there are many misconceptions and today
[2:25]if you go to for example any of the Muslim world the
[2:29]Sunni countries go to Morocco go to Algeria go to Malaysia go
[2:35]to Indonesia and tell them what do you know about Shia and
[2:39]they will tell you certain things that you have never heard of
[2:47]um some things that are strange if if if what they were
[2:49]saying about the Shia some of what they're saying is true then
[2:51]I we would not like that either so this comes from ignorance
[2:57]this is one and unfortunately there's a lot of ignorance within the
[3:02]religious community as well people that practice people that pray but they
[3:07]have that that the fact that they're ignorant and they don't know
[3:11]that they're ignorant see there's two types of ignorance there's one person
[3:15]they're ignorant they don't know if I don't know about something healthwise
[3:19]who do I go to I go to a doctor if I
[3:25]don't know about um something with regards to engineering who do I
[3:28]go to I go to an engineer this is when you this
[3:35]is healthy because you know that you don't know and you go
[3:38]and you seek experts but sometimes there's something that is worse than
[3:43]J ignorance and that is called what does that mean that means
[3:48]I'm ignorant of something and I'm ignorant of the fact that I'm
[3:55]ignorant of it so what does this mean the first example I
[3:57]don't know anything about the heart so who do I go to
[4:01]and I have a heart problem I go to the doctor the
[4:05]other one I don't know about the heart but I think I
[4:08]know about the heart and I start treating myself and I start
[4:12]treating other people I start giving out medicine I start becoming the
[4:15]doctor but in fact I don't know anything so I will cause
[4:18]not only pain and suffering for myself but I will cause it
[4:22]for others and this is something that happens a lot in religion
[4:25]because for someone to come and speak about religion you don't need
[4:31]any credentials right now if you're a doctor you're an engineer you're
[4:34]a plumber whatever you are you need to have credentials no one's
[4:37]going to give you a license but for someone to speak about
[4:39]religion give their opinion about religion anyone could come and give a
[4:43]opinion about religion it's like those political commentators anyone is a everyone's
[4:48]a political commentator these days so it's um it's a issue that
[4:56]is very dangerous and today if you go and you ask the
[4:59]Muslim world what do you know about about shm a lot of
[5:02]them have no clue a lot of them don't know many things
[5:04]and there are many misconceptions I'm going to mention a list of
[5:08]them and maybe later on we want to make this an interactive
[5:10]discussion if anyone has anything that I did not mention we could
[5:14]uh also mention that so from amongst the misconceptions is um the
[5:23]false claim that that chose IM when they were normal people just
[5:27]like all other good Muslims today some Muslims they come and they
[5:32]say okay what's the the prophet did not choose IM Ali they
[5:34]did not choose the the they were just like all the other
[5:39]Muslims why do we make such a big deal this is one
[5:41]to throw that out there and to come and say theit are
[5:45]normal people they're just like anyone else whereas when we look at
[5:47]the Quran we see the Quran has given them their special status
[5:51]during the in the life of the Prophet they have that special
[5:53]status and that is a Divine status that Allah has given them
[6:01]one accusation and misconception is sh are why did D Isis go
[6:05]and wage war and kill so many so many sh they come
[6:10]and they said these sh are these are Idol worshippers why because
[6:13]they do because they do because they worship the graves of the
[6:17]imams and they come and they say they're Idol they're kafir they're
[6:22]mush they're they're the worst type of kufur even kufur has levels
[6:26]for example the people of the book they are kuf but they're
[6:29]a a better level than a mus a polytheist they come and
[6:33]they say the sh are the mus meaning they associate partners with
[6:39]Allah subhah third sh rever IM Ali and the IMs above the
[6:43]prophet and they believe that J was supposed to go to IM
[6:48]Ali but instead went to the prophet so they come and they
[6:50]say the sh they come and they sit together and they say
[6:55]what does means it means Al he betrayed instead of going to
[7:04]instead of going to IM Ali he went to the prophet they
[7:05]come and they say that this is the Shia belief and the
[7:11]Shia's believe that the imams and and and and IM Ali is
[7:14]above the prophet fourth sh accused the wife of the prophet of
[7:17]committing Zena so this is something you always hear it they come
[7:22]and they say oh the sh attack the wives of the prophet
[7:24]and they accuse them or accuse one of them of Zena sh
[7:29]has cursed the sah was made by a Jewish man who wanted
[7:34]to divide the Muslims and cause a f so the whole origin
[7:36]of sham it has to do with a Jewish man he came
[7:40]in the Muslim Community and we will address this today in by
[7:43]the name of Abdullah Sabah he came and he wanted to cause
[7:48]division the Muslims they were all cuddly cuddly they were all very
[7:51]cute and and good with one another he came and he wanted
[7:56]to destroy the umah and he came and and he converted to
[7:59]Islam uh supposedly and he and he caused that division within the
[8:04]Muslims um this is one another one is seven sh don't actually
[8:11]follow the true teachings of IM Ali IM Hassan IM Hussein and
[8:14]the imams IM Ali did not have a problem with the establishment
[8:18]IM Hussein did not have a problem with anyone IM Hassan did
[8:21]not have a problem with anyone they were just killed for no
[8:23]reason for you know so so they come and they say Shia
[8:28]are not even following the imams because the had no problem with
[8:31]the establishment number eight sh killed IM Hussein and they cry for
[8:37]him now out of regret for what they did to him so
[8:40]you know they call that gaslighting where where they come and they
[8:44]say sh are the ones who killed Imam Hussein but now they're
[8:49]they're blaming others and now they're crying for what they did for
[8:52]to IM Hussein and they hit their chest so uh number nine
[8:56]all sh practice self mutilation and self liation this is also a
[9:01]misconception she has born out of wedlock as many practice mut marriage
[9:06]and that is not a valid form of marriage so they come
[9:10]and they say you guys are born out of mut and and
[9:14]mut is according to them is not a valid form of marriage
[9:16]so basically sh are sons of Zena um sh worship a rock
[9:22]a turba when we pray to the turba they come and they
[9:27]say you are worshiping that sh have weird beliefs like IM Mahi
[9:30]was born over a thousand years ago and is still alive and
[9:34]hidden from the eyes and disappeared in a basement so this basically
[9:37]when you come and you say it like that but then when
[9:41]you come and you break it down you come and you see
[9:45]that this it could be thrown as a misconception but when you
[9:47]come and you look at the ad you come and you look
[9:50]at the proof and inshallah we'll address all of these as the
[9:56]time comes um on all Surplus ass and assets which sunnis don't
[9:59]and Muhammad did not collect anys instead he collected zakat so they
[10:04]come and they say sh are having this form of income that
[10:09]is basically out of nowhere it they made it up to fool
[10:11]people um sh always go against the Muslim Greater Community and always
[10:16]cause division so always you hear this look at the Shia they're
[10:21]always dividing they're always causing division within the Muslim umah um sh
[10:25]believe in the of the imams and um and and they believe
[10:32]that certain imams are going to come back and this is a
[10:35]weird belief um sh have their own Quran and thei you hear
[10:40]all of these all the time of course you're not going to
[10:43]hear it with the moderate and mainstream Sunni Muslim but you will
[10:50]hear it with those that have an agenda against shm against against
[10:54]your beliefs so these are some that I was just you know
[10:58]I was just writing down they're probably others does anyone have any
[11:02]in mind that I might have uh not mentioned yes okay okay
[11:15]so this will cover when it comes to IM Al M the
[11:20]belief in IM Mahi that n didn't exist um yes that's a
[11:25]good one so these are all misconceptions in Arabic what do you
[11:28]call a misconception no B is innovation Innovation is adding something to
[11:36]the religion it's and basically what it is it's an argument that
[11:46]sounds very close to the truth it sounds close to the truth
[11:52]but it's not the truth this is why it's called because he
[11:56]says because it resembles it means it's something that resembles it resembles
[12:03]the truth that is why people fall for it if someone comes
[12:09]and tells you something that is very far from the truth right
[12:11]away you're going to say I don't believe in this but you
[12:12]come and you say something that is is close to the truth
[12:18]it resembles the truth it makes people believe it so here has
[12:22]the IMs of the they have several on and how you deal
[12:27]with a and what do you do to strengthen yourself because we
[12:30]want to build the foundation before we go and we address these
[12:36]issues one after the other he says the is referred to as
[12:48]a a misconception because it looks like the because it looks like
[12:54]the so basically the Imam he says that those who are they
[13:17]are Guided by their Y is always stronger than doubt today when
[13:24]you have y in something could someone come and take that when
[13:26]you have certainty in something could someone come and take that away
[13:30]from you they can't because you have certainty in it so he
[13:34]says the the true believers they have strong faith they're not shaken
[13:38]they don't give up on their faith easily and we find every
[13:43]day in our life our faith is tested sometimes it's tested through
[13:47]trials sometimes it's tested through a professor sometimes it's tested through a
[13:52]movie or someone might come and say something oh why do you
[13:54]believe in IM sad why do you believe in IMI you believe
[13:58]in the you believe in this why believe in God everything was
[14:00]created Darwinism all of these they come and they throw it at
[14:06]you it looks similar to the truth but it's intended to come
[14:08]and bring you away but the and they're always they're always um
[14:18]Guided by the pursuit of the truth and pursuit of hi the
[14:25]pursuit of guidance they don't want to follow their desires they don't
[14:27]want to follow what other people are saying they say I want
[14:32]to follow the H I have to follow the H and this
[14:33]is something very important today for example you find some people they
[14:40]come and they say tell me tell me what makes it easy
[14:42]for me I want religion to be easy for me is that
[14:46]is that the mindset that we're supposed to have always go after
[14:48]what's easy or do we have to find what's H do we
[14:52]have to find the truth sometimes the truth is not easy sometimes
[14:55]the truth is very easy I have to have that pursuit of
[15:00]following the truth truth however but the the enemies of God they
[15:10]are they're not Guided by hiah they're not Guided by Guidance they're
[15:13]not in pursuit of the truth they're in pursuit of meaning taking
[15:17]the many paths the many deviated paths and here's what's hard today
[15:24]why do we look at most people are doing wrong and only
[15:27]a few people are doing the good because the path to good
[15:32]is one but the path to bad is many Allah talks about
[15:34]this in the Quran is plural but n is one what does
[16:18]that mean that means the paths the paths of deviance are many
[16:22]as soon as I get off course I'm driving from point A
[16:26]to point B as soon as I take a right I'm lost
[16:29]as soon as I take a left I'm lost as soon as
[16:30]I leave the navigation system I'm lost there are many roads that
[16:36]are wrong but the path of the H is one so the
[16:40]m is the one that is in pursuit of the H but
[16:41]the or the the the enemies of God and they're Guided by
[16:52]blindness they're not Guided by true and another Hadi he says be
[17:01]very careful of the of the misconception because it's there to cause
[17:06]a FNA it's there to derail you to test your faith in
[17:11]another he says when God wants to guide someone don't be quick
[17:20]to make a decision when you're not sure and this is where
[17:24]a lot of people fall in the I have all sometimes people
[17:28]they come and they're like yeah I heard a Professor he said
[17:30]something and now I don't believe in religion they made a decision
[17:35]right away because they heard one one Professor or they they watched
[17:39]one YouTube video they heard one lecture the m is the one
[17:43]who does w if I'm not sure let me wait until I
[17:47]make a final decision don't be quick to make decisions uh in
[17:52]another Hadith IMI he says the best type of meaning not falling
[17:58]in the sins having that ability to control yourself is to control
[18:02]yourself in falling in the and as we said it resembles the
[18:10]truth it's something that many people are susceptible to falling in am
[18:14]I immune from falling in a shha am I immune from being
[18:15]misled no I'm not every single one of us look at look
[18:20]at and those who are with him the sahaba they were with
[18:25]the prophet they saw the prophet every day they used to pray
[18:27]behind the prophet everything but then many Muslims they deviated look at
[18:34]those who were with IM Ali some of them they deviated from
[18:35]the h those who were with the IMs of the they deviated
[18:40]so this is why we should not believe that we have a
[18:42]guaranteed protection from and we have to know what it takes in
[18:48]time if someone comes and throws a throw you see a Hadith
[18:52]that doesn't make sense to you you see a verse in the
[18:54]Quran that you don't understand the of does that make you to
[19:00]make quick conclusion I no so our duty and I say this
[19:11]to myself even though for example right now I'm a Shia I'm
[19:13]a Muslim and I'm a sh but does this mean that I
[19:19]should not question my faith no I question my faith because how
[19:22]do I make my faith become strong how do I make my
[19:26]faith become solid if I don't test it so this is why
[19:33]it's healthy sometimes and this happens all the times parents they come
[19:36]to me they're like please talk to my son talk to my
[19:40]daughter this happened a few days ago with me a mom she
[19:41]comes and she brings her daughter please talk to my daughter I
[19:45]said why she said because my daughter she asks hard questions she
[19:49]comes and she says Where's God she comes and she tells me
[19:52]why why do we have to do this as Muslims why do
[19:55]we have to believe in this I told the mom I told
[20:00]told her what your daughter is doing is very natural how is
[20:03]someone supposed to strengthen their IM if they don't ask these questions
[20:11]yes there's a difference between asking this question and ignoring it and
[20:16]leaving your faith and asking your question and coming to a scholar
[20:19]or coming to someone who could answer you picking up a book
[20:20]trying to find the answer it's perfectly healthy to put yourself in
[20:28]this situation so that when you are faced with a difficult time
[20:31]you know how to answer otherwise how do I believe in God
[20:34]if I don't question I don't come and bring myself to the
[20:37]conviction how do I believe in the prophet how do I believe
[20:39]in the imams how do I believe in the how do I
[20:42]believe in everything that I believe in I have to come and
[20:46]question it but the important thing is that we have to number
[20:49]one resort to facts some people they want to find the truth
[20:53]but they go and they say oh I saw this in a
[20:56]dream I saw this in a magazine I saw this here and
[21:00]there no you resort to facts when you resort to the fact
[21:03]then you're not going to be misled but if you don't resort
[21:07]to fact then yeah there's people there's voices everywhere telling you to
[21:12]do to do certain things and there's no room for when it
[21:18]comes to religion what does mean arrogance meaning I can't come and
[21:24]say oh I told you so oh she you told me I
[21:25]told you I have to begin where I I accept the possibility
[21:32]that I might be wrong that's how I build my faith so
[21:36]it's not an issue of I told you so and I told
[21:39]you so it's an issue of I want to find the truth
[21:41]if this is the truth then I will follow the truth we
[21:46]have to follow the truth and we should not make the H
[21:48]be basically oh this is what I want so this is how
[21:52]I'm going to change religion this is what I want this is
[21:56]how I'm going to make the religion I have to conform to
[21:57]the way the religion is not I not I make the I
[22:03]change the religion around because of me Allah says in the Quran
[22:23]basically the meaning the truth is what you need to follow you
[22:28]you have to follow the truth and you cannot come and say
[22:33]oh I want to follow this because my cousin follows this I
[22:35]want to follow this because my family follows this no I have
[22:37]to follow the truth and in the face of shat we have
[22:42]to always make sure that Y and certainty and the is what
[22:47]we follow not what our desires tell us or what we we
[22:49]want or what we see the majority of people today one of
[22:54]the misconceptions against shm is they come and they tell me but
[22:57]you're a minority right now no how how does it make sense
[23:03]that all the Muslims 70% 60% of the Muslims they're on the
[23:05]wrong in the minority are on the truth this is something argument
[23:12]that you always see but just because you're a majority does that
[23:14]mean you're with the truth today right now you look what's going
[23:16]on in America the majority of people are okay with you know
[23:21]LGBT marriage or something like that does that mean that that's good
[23:24]the majority of people don't have a moral compass when it comes
[23:27]to political issues that are going gone does that mean that that's
[23:30]good no the just because you're a majority that doesn't mean but
[23:35]see sometimes that is one thing that comes and tricks people no
[23:37]no don't follow this because the majority believe in this who cares
[23:40]about the majority my job is to follow the truth and we
[23:46]need to be very careful not to add to the religion and
[23:51]change to the religion because of what we want is this something
[23:53]that has happened in the history of religion yes look at Judaism
[23:57]look at Christianity and look look at Islam as well there were
[24:02]many manipulations and fabrications when it comes to religion this is one
[24:10]so always follow the truth second is I need to accept the
[24:13]possibility in order to reach the truth I have to humble myself
[24:20]and that means that I have to accept the possibility that I
[24:23]was wrong that doesn't mean that if I'm doing that then I'm
[24:28]I'm I'm going against my faith right now for example they come
[24:31]and they tell me you're a you believe that IM Ali was
[24:33]the IM after the prophet I say yes okay tell me let's
[24:39]come bring yourself a step back before you come and you become
[24:42]very strong staunch believer in this come to the idea that the
[24:45]prophet didn't or during the time of the prophet and you don't
[24:49]know anything yet give the others the benefit of the doubt and
[24:51]give IM Ali the give them all equal equal status and then
[24:56]look at the proofs and look at the ad all of them
[25:00]and then later on make the decision don't start off by making
[25:04]that decision accept the possibility that I may be wrong am I
[25:08]AUM no I'm not AUM that means I could be wrong so
[25:10]what was I born with full knowledge no my knowledge is increasing
[25:15]every day so here we understand that we we understand that um
[25:23]we need to we need to basically humble ourselves and that's how
[25:29]we find the truth is it is it very possible um were
[25:34]others wrong before us for example did others come and make wrong
[25:37]decisions yes so why do I come and believe that everything I
[25:40]believe in is the truth I need to question I need to
[25:44]question not that I'm questioning so that I leave the religion I
[25:47]question so that I strengthen my faith and this is why this
[25:51]is this is very important even addressing addressing beliefs because this is
[25:57]how we strengthen our faith and our our belief so here the
[26:04]path to conviction begins with questioning beliefs and you have to try
[26:09]to convince yourself to believe in that and I always tell people
[26:11]sometimes people they come and they want to convert to Islam I
[26:15]tell them listen before you convert ask any question and try to
[26:17]debate try to prove me wrong not only me try to prove
[26:24]what what the argument is is wrong so that later on when
[26:26]you oh I didn't feel like getting up and praying I didn't
[26:30]feel like believing in this I heard something here and there you
[26:33]have no room to fall away from the h so try to
[26:37]try to look for all the holes and and the argument and
[26:40]try to come and see where the issue is with your faith
[26:44]if you do that and you do it with genuine sincerity with
[26:46]good intention to find the truth then Allah subhana T will take
[26:51]you to the truth but if you have and arrogance and pride
[26:53]or no I'm doing this because my people are following this I'm
[26:57]following this because of this then you won't find the truth then
[27:00]you're following and arrogance and this is the attitude that we should
[27:04]have towards seeking knowledge and this is why in Islam there is
[27:09]no knowledge that Islam comes and tells you be afraid of tells
[27:13]Muslims seek knowledge even if it's in China what does that mean
[27:18]that means if I am sincere in my intentions towards seeking knowledge
[27:21]all types of knowledge will guide me to the truth all types
[27:26]of knowledge will eventually guide me to the H so but we
[27:29]have to look at all the data today there are some Scholars
[27:34]some she some speakers they come and they tell people no no
[27:36]no don't go and sit with this people don't read this book
[27:38]don't do that because you're going to you're going to leave what
[27:43]you're believing in we come and we say no let's come and
[27:45]look at everything and this is why one thing beautiful that strengthens
[27:47]the sh argument is that the sh proof the proof of shm
[27:52]is all and most of it is in the Quran and in
[27:57]the books and the history that is written by so we have
[28:01]nothing to worry about you come and you look at the you
[28:05]come and you look at the proof and you find it it
[28:06]is all there so this is the second point so we mentioned
[28:12]the first point is that we need to resort to the facts
[28:17]always have the the navigation B finding the H and second we
[28:20]need to accept the possibility that we are wrong because that's how
[28:25]we strengthen and third and I I I want to insist on
[28:27]this this is very important important when we are getting in these
[28:29]topics especially shni topics are we doing this to come and Bash
[28:35]sunnis and talk about sunnis in a bad way and negative way
[28:37]of course not our whole purpose is to strengthen our beliefs our
[28:41]whole purpose is to come in strengthen our own AA and if
[28:46]anyone is asking us questions there are some people they come and
[28:50]they they take these arguments but they do it in an insulting
[28:55]way where they're insulting the others the others maybe they don't know
[28:58]or maybe they heard something this is what they believed in so
[29:01]we have to be very careful and very respectful and we have
[29:03]to follow the manh the curriculum of the Quran Allah says in
[29:09]the Quran Allah says in the Quran invite for the sake of
[29:22]your Lord with wisdom and good admonishments meaning if I'm coming and
[29:29]I'm talking to an atheist I'm talking to a non-believer I'm talking
[29:33]to anyone who's different from me whether this is a Sunni whether
[29:38]this is a Hindu whether this is a a sh that is
[29:39]doesn't believe in all the imams even there are sh that are
[29:43]for example zi sh there are sh that believe up to the
[29:45]seventh IM or whatever so you have to deal with them with
[29:52]wisdom maybe I could attract someone to the religion by being kind
[29:56]by be by inviting in them in a very reasonable way using
[30:01]using wisdom rather than I come and I tell this person you're
[30:04]going to hell you're you're going to hell this is wrong and
[30:10]unfortunately there are people that follow the other method where they come
[30:13]and they push people away rather than they invite them use wisdom
[30:18]speak out of the heart how did manage to bring all of
[30:24]these people they were KU they were mus they were Idol worshippers
[30:27]Allah attracted why because he spoke out of love he spoke out
[30:32]of compassion he wasn't using hate language he wasn't using any of
[30:36]this type of language that brings people away if they're debating debate
[30:45]in the best way possible your Lord knows who is astray and
[30:56]your Lord knows who is who on the right path who am
[31:00]I to come and say you're going to heaven and you're going
[31:02]to hell Allah is the one who knows who is the one
[31:06]who is on the truth and who is the one who is
[31:10]on the wrong path my job is to follow the proofs that
[31:14]I have I follow the Quran I follow the Hadith I follow
[31:16]the prophet so I try to be on the H it's not
[31:19]my job to come and say you're going to heaven and you're
[31:22]going to hell I say they tell me then why are you
[31:23]doing this I say because this is what the Quran says and
[31:26]this is what the Hadith says so this is something very important
[31:29]and Allah describes in another verse the true they're humble they don't
[31:47]look up look down on other people when an ignorant person speaks
[31:55]to them in a derogatory way they say Salam they say peace
[31:57]so this is is something very important so inshallah we will be
[32:00]addressing some of these misconceptions with these three points in mind seeking
[32:05]the truth beginning with the basis and Foundation that I might be
[32:12]wrong so I don't come and hold prior prior Notions and prior
[32:16]beliefs and then the third is um we try to do it
[32:23]in the best and the best way possible okay muham muhad so
[32:29]the first to come and later build up slowly the first is
[32:35]the the idea of the origins of shiaism today you come and
[32:42]you see some individuals who have no knowledge about Islam they come
[32:46]and they tell you that shiaism is something different there's no they'll
[32:50]come and they'll tell you there's no sh and Sunni in Islam
[32:52]everyone follows the prophet and where did this word Shia come from
[32:58]everyone is a Muslim why why are the Shia different from the
[33:00]Muslims and they'll come and they'll tell you shiism started after shm
[33:05]started during the time of IM sad some people they'll come and
[33:10]they'll tell you shis started aftera some people they'll come and they'll
[33:14]tell you shis started after the safs came and they they come
[33:17]and they bring all of these different arguments to throw them in
[33:22]there and someone who has no knowledge somewh and and the narrative
[33:25]is not controlled by the sh right now in the majority of
[33:28]the Muslim world who controls the narrative it's not the sh so
[33:30]a lot of people they'll believe all of this without questioning without
[33:34]using the basis of seeking knowledge so from amongst the misconceptions against
[33:41]Shia Islam is that um shiaism started by they'll come and they'll
[33:50]tell you of course not all not all sunnis will say this
[33:53]this is an extreme view where you find some people they come
[33:58]she they they'll come and they'll tell you shiism started by a
[34:05]Jewish convert to Islam a Jewish man he converted to Islam and
[34:10]his name is Abdullah Sabah Abdullah Sabah this man he converted and
[34:16]he saw that the Muslims everything was you know everything was all
[34:20]Jolly and there was no problems whatsoever so what did he do
[34:25]he came and he wanted to divide them because there's always a
[34:29]conspiracy there's always foreign intervention uh blame it and say there's Jewish
[34:34]man he came and he he decided to divide the Muslims so
[34:41]the idea of this man he came to stir political and religious
[34:45]strife and cause division within the umah and the the idea the
[34:50]allegation is that this man came during the time ofman and he
[34:55]riled up people against and he told people go and turn against
[34:59]and they went and they protested against ended up getting killed he
[35:05]came and he told people follow ALB they followed Al Talib and
[35:08]he came and he started exaggerating the merits of alali and that's
[35:12]how sh was built um this is the whole story of Abdullah
[35:20]Sabah but today Sunni Scholars many of the moderate Sunni Scholars when
[35:26]they come and they look at the whole idea of of um
[35:28]Abdullah sabat they see that this is a fabrication perhaps there was
[35:33]no man named Abdullah sabat it's a made of fictional character whether
[35:39]whether he actually existed or not is in question And even if
[35:45]he existed you there's a huge sense of exaggeration to come and
[35:51]blame everything all of the division all of the Grievances that Muslims
[35:56]have had all of the TR trouble and problems that have occurred
[35:59]you come and you blame it on a a Jewish man this
[36:04]is a very convenient answer to come and say oh there's no
[36:10]problems nothing nothing has happened this is a very lazy answer to
[36:12]come and say no one wants to do research no one wants
[36:16]to come and see oh there were there problems why did the
[36:20]Muslims revolt against was there a source to shm was there origin
[36:24]to shis were there groups of people that were called sh during
[36:27]the time of the prophet this is all there but you come
[36:31]this is a convenient scapegoat to come and blame everything on outside
[36:35]uh on a foreign entity and you come and you don't take
[36:40]any responsibilities and don't throw any blame to the suffering to the
[36:48]division on the early Muslims that existed so here um of course
[36:52]the the funny thing is until today until today they'll come and
[36:56]they'll tell you the Shia they work hand inand with the Jews
[37:01]and they'll come and they'll tell you you hear this on you
[37:06]know many channels they'll come and they'll tell you Shia and the
[37:09]Jews they work hand inand with one another and it's very ironic
[37:11]today that uh you see those governments and those mindsets the wahhabi
[37:18]the salafi the extreme not all sunnis say this the extreme those
[37:24]who do of the sh they are the ones who are normalizing
[37:26]ties with the Z ists and they come and they say sh
[37:31]are the ones who are doing this and Sh and this is
[37:33]the this is the um this is basically the source and the
[37:40]origins of shiaism so when we look at when was the origin
[37:43]of shis let's let's look at this right now when did sham
[37:50]begin with IM Ali on the day ofad okay what else does
[37:57]anyone else say something else what is it during the life of
[38:04]prophet Muhammad so a lot of people when they think of sects
[38:08]when they think of usually they'll imagine during the life of the
[38:15]Prophet there was no sects there was no M everyone was one
[38:20]then after the death of the Prophet M emerged for example in
[38:25]the Sunni School of Malik sh these they came these understandings these
[38:36]are Juris Prudential M sect they emerged 200 years um 250 years
[38:44]after the Hijra of the prophet and these sects were created after
[38:49]the prophet when they imagined shm they imagine that shis also came
[38:56]to existence after the death of the Prophet how however the truth
[38:59]and the fact of the matter is that sham did not start
[39:02]after sham did not start during the time of Imam sad sham
[39:07]did not start by the saf sham did not start during the
[39:12]ABI era sham started with Islam because the holy prophet sallallah alai
[39:17]wasam he taught people while he was telling people say and say
[39:26]at the same time during his life at the same time told
[39:32]people that IM Ali is the leader after him there was no
[39:35]separation from that to come and create a separation to come and
[39:41]create a gap between and and IM Ali this is an injustice
[39:47]against and an injustice against IM Ali and there are many proofs
[39:54]that the holy prophet from day one he when he told people
[39:57]in fact the first time when was the first time gathered his
[40:05]family and he told them about Islam what was that event called
[40:17]the holy prophet when when when the religion of Islam came down
[40:23]upon him when the Quran came down upon him the first three
[40:26]years the holy prophet it was was him khad and IM Ali
[40:31]and probably a handful of people that were believing in the prophet
[40:35]no one else then after three years Allah subhah wa tala tells
[40:38]the prophet and warn your family go begin with your family so
[40:46]go and look up the Hadith now because this is uh we
[40:51]we're going to go through this a little bit quicker we don't
[40:53]we can't come and bring all the sources but you go and
[40:58]you look up the Hadith of this ver the of this verse
[41:00]inni books and in books you find it and you find it
[41:11]in many other sources you come and you see that the first
[41:14]time told people about Islam he gathered his family Abu was there
[41:18]Abu Talib was there abas the uncle of the Prophet many of
[41:23]the family members they were there Hamza was there at that time
[41:27]no one believed him no one publicly believed in him except IM
[41:31]Ali he the prophet he cooked food and then he comes and
[41:35]he tells them who will believe in me who will support me
[41:39]who will follow me this person will be myif and my and
[41:42]my after me the the vice jant the one who is after
[41:46]me they all no one said anything except IM Ali who was
[41:48]young at that time he said me and this is mentioned he
[41:57]tells them and therefore you are my my and my after me
[42:04]so what does this mean this means the prophet while he's telling
[42:09]people at the same time he's telling people IMI is the leader
[42:14]after me so is there a separation is there a gap between
[42:16]sh and Islam there's no Gap believing in IM Ali is believing
[42:22]in the prophet the way the prophet wanted you to believe rejecting
[42:25]IM Ali is not fully accepting the Sunnah of the prophet and
[42:29]not fully accepting that which Allah subhah wa tala came down with
[42:34]in the Quran and here um in another verse in another verse
[42:43]in this term sh when was this term created and who coined
[42:52]this term sh today also you might find many people they come
[42:55]and they say oh the word Shia did not exist it came
[43:00]into existence many years later go and read the verse the of
[43:04]this verse inah 98 in the Quran this verse those who have
[43:17]IM and they do good deeds they are the best the best
[43:19]of the creation one of the Sunni scholars in his book in
[43:37]HISD also another scholar he narrates thisi fromd he says he says
[43:49]we were with the [Music] prophet came he says we were sitting
[43:54]with the prophet Ali walked in he says the prophet he said
[44:01]in front of in front of others he said by the one
[44:06]who my soul is in his hands meaning by God him and
[44:16]his they are the Victorious on the day of judgment so who
[44:22]used the word Shia who is the first who used the word
[44:25]Shia the holy prophet and this verse came down this is what
[44:35]jab is saying while he says while we were sitting with the
[44:39]prophet a verse of the Quran came down those who have IM
[44:48]and they do good deeds they are the best of God's creation
[44:52]this is the this the commentary of Ja he says the companions
[45:00]of the Prophet when comes in a room what would they say
[45:05]they they would say the best of God's creation entered so here
[45:23]in another says you and your the Shia are the best of
[45:30]God's creation so what is the definition of Shia the prophet used
[45:38]this term the prophet multiple times he told people about IM Ali
[45:41]what is the definition of sh follower of Imam Ali and someone
[45:51]who not only follows but someone who believes that IM Ali is
[45:55]greater than the other sahabah and more worthy and more qualified to
[45:58]be followed this is the definition of Shia so today the Shia
[46:02]they believe that IM Ali is is their leader and he is
[46:07]more worthy than the others that doesn't mean that we have a
[46:09]problem with others we have no problem with others but that we
[46:15]just believe that IM Ali is more worthy than being followed because
[46:18]of certain qualities that he had because he was the first to
[46:20]join the religion of Islam because he was the most knowledgeable because
[46:27]of the many qualities that he had now where there sahab from
[46:30]this is to answer the point that sh just came and ex
[46:36]came into existence many years after the prophet were there the the
[46:39]the term sh was coined during the life of the prophet he
[46:44]said were there sh during the life of there were sh during
[46:51]the life of the Prophet right yes there were Shia how could
[46:58]they be Shia while they're Muslim what's the answer to that to
[47:07]be a Muslim you have to be a follower of alali because
[47:12]that is what the Quran ordered and that is what told people
[47:18]so there were Companions of R Companions of that were known to
[47:29]be the sh of during the life of the Prophet they were
[47:31]known to be the sh ofb the the group of alali yes
[47:44]okay who were those companions that were known to be the Shia
[47:50]of does anyone know any Abu was one of them who else
[47:58]AR Amar okay who else Salman mikdad jabber perhaps yes but those
[48:07]were the known ones Salman Abu mdar and then in fact today
[48:18]there's misconception a that only a few people followed alali and the
[48:22]majority of people right away they switched the majority of people did
[48:25]not believe in alibali that is wrong that is a that's what
[48:31]they want you to believe they want you to believe that only
[48:33]a small group of the sahab believed in Al Talib and the
[48:36]majority they said move on don't worry about Al Talib they didn't
[48:41]see that Al Talib was qualified they didn't see that alali was
[48:46]worthy of being followed this is wrong this is very far from
[48:54]the truth in fact the majority of the S of those who
[48:56]were close with the prophet they could be labeled as the sh
[49:03]of alali until polit politics came into play and they were forced
[49:08]to accept something else and this is what historians have pointed out
[49:13]so there were it's not just these four salar MD and ab
[49:19]in fact there were many others Abbas all of Beni Hashim all
[49:23]of Beni Hashim they believed that Al Talib hadah Al Talib was
[49:29]more qualified and hash are not something nothing they were with the
[49:36]prophet they're the family of the Prophet Abbas abdah in fact there
[49:41]is a Muslim historian by the name of and Muslims the one
[49:44]of the first sociologists by the name of IUN you've probably all
[49:49]heard of IB khalon he used to travel and he used to
[49:53]write down about the beliefs and soci he used to stud societies
[49:57]he says a big group of the sah saw that was favorable
[50:05]was greater and they were the sh ofb except when matters changed
[50:14]when politics came into play they they only showed disappointment and did
[50:19]not go too far for the sake of Muslim Unity so what
[50:22]does this mean this means that the majority of the sahab of
[50:27]they saw the Al Talib was more qualified the majority of the
[50:30]sahabah of the Prophet they saw that alib Talib was the one
[50:35]who was most fit to be the leader but then politics came
[50:38]then they saw that it was a life and death issue they
[50:42]saw that a political establishment have has come to power and they're
[50:48]using Force they're using violence and is there proof that they're used
[50:54]for force and violence yes there is uh one of the leaders
[50:59]of the ANS he was killed and they blamed his murder on
[51:04]the Jin um f a few days after the death of the
[51:07]Prophet a perfectly healthy young lady why would she die why would
[51:12]she why would her house be um why would they threaten her
[51:15]house why did why would alali be dragged out of the house
[51:21]so then once force was put into play then a lot of
[51:22]these they said okay you know what I'm not going to do
[51:25]anything why did they not do anything because they saw also wasn't
[51:27]doing anything for the sake of Muslim Unity for the sake of
[51:30]keeping the umah together there is a a scholar by the name
[51:36]of he has a book on the history of sh he says
[51:41]he he writes down he says 133 of were labeled as of
[51:47]so this goes against the misconception that a lot of people have
[51:50]today today even some of the sh they come and they say
[51:54]only a few people believed in Al Talib the majority did not
[51:57]believe in Al that's not true in fact the majority of the
[52:04]sah they saw and for in fact if we want to go
[52:12]with this definition of if you saw that had more knowledge and
[52:15]was more qualified to be a leader then even Abu Bakr andar
[52:20]would fall in this category because they also believed IM Ali was
[52:24]more knowledgeable didn't they he says so even they believe that IM
[52:38]Ali was more knowledgeable but then power it blinds people power it
[52:42]makes people do certain things where even they know that this person
[52:45]has more this person is more is close is more uh qualified
[52:52]but they don't follow this person yes sister so this is an
[53:04]argument that is made does this argument has a foundation no it
[53:06]doesn't IM Ali yes he was in his 30s when the prophet
[53:10]died he was in his 30s but did not make age a
[53:19]criteria the Quran tells us Isa became a prophet when he was
[53:22]a newborn uh IM he was they knew he was more knowledgeable
[53:30]than them they would they would testify to that they knew that
[53:34]he has a longer history of Islam he never worshiped an idol
[53:37]in the Jihad and the knowledge and the all of that and
[53:44]then that argue the argument of age a few days before the
[53:47]death of the prophet he he put out he asked the Muslim
[53:53]Army to go out and join the army of Usama join the
[53:59]army of Usama Usama was the son of Zade Zade was the
[54:05]adopted son of the Prophet Zade was killed Zade died Usama he
[54:07]was a young teenager Usama was a teenager tells the sahabah those
[54:16]sahabah who are in their 50s and 60s Abu Bakr and Omar
[54:19]and all these people he comes and he tells them you have
[54:24]to be under the command of Osama Osama a teenager what is
[54:27]the prophet trying to prove the prophet is trying to prove that
[54:31]age is not an issue if you're qualified you're qualified if you're
[54:34]not qualified then you're not qualified no matter how old you are
[54:37]so so this is an argument this is a misconception that is
[54:41]thrown out there they come and they say Talib was too young
[54:44]that's why they they did not accept Al Talib no this is
[54:50]just an excuse to derail from the truth so even going back
[54:53]to what we were saying there were many Shi and for those
[54:58]who regarded the the definition of Shia as those who saw ALB
[55:01]as qualified then this even applies to Abu Bakr and Omar because
[55:05]they saw that he was more qualified in knowledge and understanding in
[55:11]history of Islam and however the the reality of this D is
[55:15]that people will make decisions that go against the truth that go
[55:20]against morality that go against and this is what happened time and
[55:23]time again until today it happens don't we see it happening that
[55:26]people they know this is the truth but they make another decision
[55:28]we see this all the time we see it happen with the
[55:32]closest of the sahab even those who were sh during when they
[55:38]say that when the attack on the house of fat Z happened
[55:41]one of the first people who took out his sword and told
[55:44]him put your sword away was a Zu Zu he took out
[55:50]his sword and he was ready to defend the house of fat
[55:53]Z fast forward 30 years what happened to Zu Zu waged the
[55:59]war against IM Ali and he was killed in the Battle of
[56:03]Jamal of course IM Ali convinced him and he he left the
[56:05]battle but he did not tell them no he left and then
[56:09]someone came and went and killed him some so people just because
[56:15]I'm sh Now does not mean I'm sh forever sh means I
[56:20]have to constantly prove my I have to constantly prove my Iman
[56:23]just like I'm a Muslim right now but if I if I
[56:26]wake up tomorrow I stop praying and I stop doing what makes
[56:28]me a Muslim I'm not going to be a Muslim anymore so
[56:33]you need to remain with the truth but if we were to
[56:35]if we were to use that argument that whoever saw that Al
[56:40]Talib was more that definition that they saw alali was more qualified
[56:44]than this applies to many people and why were the sh of
[56:50]Ali during the time of the Prophet shouldn't they be following the
[56:54]prophet well being a follower of the Prophet is being a sh
[56:59]of Al and being a sh of alali is being a follower
[57:00]of the prophet and this is why right now when we say
[57:03]we are the sh of IM Ali We are following Imam Ali
[57:06]because we believe he was the closest to the prophet that's the
[57:09]only reason otherwise we're not following something different that IM Ali has
[57:14]that is different from the prophet and and to be fair sunnis
[57:17]they say we follow the sahabah because we believe the sahabah will
[57:21]bring us to the prophet but unfortunately you see that here is
[57:27]where the discrepancies and the problems occur where we come and we
[57:31]say some of the sunnis are actually following the sahabah and not
[57:35]the prophet because the sahabah they did certain things in the religion
[57:39]that are different and that's why today you find different uh Muslims
[57:44]not all Muslims pray the same way why the prophet did he
[57:48]one day pray like this and one day pray like this or
[57:51]as some people say one day he prayed like this it's supposed
[57:53]to be a joke the prophet never did that so what is
[57:58]what is the what is the um the prophet he prayed in
[58:03]one way the prophet he showed them the religion of Islam in
[58:06]one way but today we see differences so somewhere along the lines
[58:11]someone made a mistake someone dered the um we follow IM Ali
[58:17]because we believe he's the closest to the prophet yes sister so
[58:24]we are praying five times too so there is proof there's Del
[58:34]from the prophet and from the Quran as well Allah talks about
[58:37]when Allah talks about the times of prayers Allah mentions three times
[58:54]there are five prayers but are we allowed to join them sometimes
[58:56]times the prophet during his life he joined sometimes he didn't now
[59:00]doesn't mean that we always have to join you do the you
[59:04]do the prayers you could take a break and then you do
[59:07]the other one yesl not all no all Muslims are followers of
[59:19]the prophets but many of the sah they saw thatb was more
[59:23]qualified they saw that he was the most knowledgeable yes well at
[59:37]least 10 years because say the Salah became waj in Mecca in
[59:43]the later years in Mecca how is it possible that IM Hussein
[59:51]the grandson of the Prophet was killed there's when people deviate from
[59:57]the truth they deviate from the truth they say after the battle
[60:00]of Jamal IM Ali he came to Bas and he prayed in
[60:05]the Masjid in Bas so when he entered some of them were
[60:08]sahabah but they did not join him these guys they prayed with
[60:14]the prophet but how many years over 20 something years ago they
[60:19]prayed with the prophet they saw IM Ali praying they say they
[60:24]remembered this is how used to Pray when they saw IM Ali
[60:28]praying it's very easy for people to deviate it's very easy for
[60:35]people to change and is this something that is impossible to happen
[60:38]no look at the Quran the Quran tells us what happened to
[60:40]bani is M leaves them for 40 days he came back he
[60:44]saw they were worshiping a golden calf and Allah had given them
[60:49]all of the Miracles all of the blessings food was coming from
[60:52]the heavens and they started worshiping a golden C is it easy
[60:54]for people to Dev of course he keeps telling them to worship
[61:00]God to believe in God then they started worshiping him and they
[61:04]totally changed the religion why does the Quran talk to us about
[61:07]deviations that happen in religion because this is something that we are
[61:10]susceptible to it's very easy to deviate from the it's very hard
[61:15]to hold on to the truth Allah says there's one path of
[61:26]the truth and you have to follow it so being a follower
[61:28]of IM Ali is being a follower of the Prophet because IM
[61:32]Ali did not deviate from the prophet one of our great Scholars
[61:35]by the name ofd Hussein sh and this book has been translated
[61:38]into English he has a book by the name of meaning means
[61:48]there's a clear order of a ruling this is how you pray
[61:54]this is how you do wo this is what you do and
[61:57]then there means I do meaning God told me to do this
[62:05]but I will do something else said don't pray he clearly told
[62:10]people that but then when comes to power he comes and he
[62:12]sees Muslims this one praying here this one praying here he comes
[62:16]and he gathers them together and he says I'll pray together and
[62:19]then he says this is a this is a beautiful Innovation this
[62:23]is meaning that there's a order and then someone else is giving
[62:30]their own opinion now we someone might come and say okay we
[62:34]have much we have Scholars cannot be meaning that if you have
[62:37]a clear order you can't do when you don't have an order
[62:42]then you try to do isad and figure out what God wants
[62:45]from you what God wants not what I want what I think
[62:48]God wants so here we believe that IM Ali is his path
[62:53]being the sh of that's the path of the truth and and
[62:56]that sh existed during the life of the Prophet what are the
[63:00]proofs the verse of Purity the verse of the verse of verse
[63:27]of the verse of completion of Faith um the verse of the
[63:36]verse of these are all proofs in the Quran that prove the
[63:40]of then you go to theith of the Prophet you are to
[63:47]me like what har was to and many other Hadith many other
[63:56]Hadith from the life of the Prophet sallallah alai so we will
[64:04]come to a stop here and inshallah uh in the next session
[64:11]we will build off where we are stopping and we will talk
[64:13]about the who are the are the wives of the Prophet included
[64:18]in the bit this is one misconception today people come and say
[64:21]the wives of the Prophet are a part of the bit and
[64:24]and um what is our position position towards the wives of the
[64:27]Prophet what is our position towards the sahabah of the prophet and
[64:30]many other misconceptions that exist there so um we will take a
[64:37]stop here if anyone has any questions feel free to ask yes
[64:41]T sounds like right yeah but don't criticize me just kidding no
[64:49]it's always good is there a point where like yes so sometimes
[65:13]sometimes there's something that no benefit comes out of it or they
[65:18]right now for example I come and I bring a a book
[65:24]of atheist argument and I come and I give it to little
[65:29]kids young people who are not at that level of understanding to
[65:32]be able to debate it so our Scholars they come and they
[65:37]say that some books are Haram but those Scholars before they come
[65:39]and say say it's Haram they've actually read those books and they've
[65:43]de defeated those books and they've argued those books but they know
[65:46]that if you throw this out in in the in because you
[65:50]have to be very careful and this is the Hadith I've mentioned
[65:54]this many times the Hadith of IM on the of this verse
[65:59]let every insan look at their food what does the of the
[66:05]IM say like your knowledge where you're taking your knowledge from you
[66:15]have to be very careful so yes for me I'm an adult
[66:16]I know I'm not going to go and eat unhealthy junk food
[66:21]but if I come and I put Haram food in front of
[66:24]a young child he's a Muslim he's a good person I put
[66:26]it in front of him what's that child going to do maybe
[66:29]the child is going to not know they don't know and they're
[66:31]going to come and eat it so yes sometimes it's good to
[66:38]draw the line to put a distinction and not not have 100%
[66:41]access or unmonitored access for everything out there if you're giving access
[66:47]you need to also give give um the proof for it and
[66:51]the and and strengthen them in dealing with the solution dealing with
[66:55]the problems yeah but sometimes some someone might not know better right
[67:11]now as a father as a mother don't you make sure that
[67:14]your children are eating healthy food so there are some people they
[67:19]have will there are some people they have authority over you when
[67:22]they have authority over you they have a duty to protect you
[67:26]yes sister yes that's one of them we'll talk about that next
[67:37]week inshallah yes you're very anxious mallah yes anyone else okay
