[1:34]of sin the epital mode when a Muslim dies the question that
[1:47]obviously arises is a question concerning how do you bury that Muslim
[1:51]how does one go about with the burial rites of the Muslim
[1:57]male or female in their community no doubt the religion of Islam
[2:01]places a major emphasis on maintaining the sanctity and the honor and
[2:07]the dignity of the body of all human beings but especially members
[2:11]of the Muslim community where there is a responsibility upon a member
[2:18]of the community to ensure that if there is a body that
[2:22]needs burying that they undertake this task each and every religion in
[2:26]the world today has their own rights their own rituals when it
[2:30]comes to burying the dead and yes while we're slowly moving from
[2:35]dar al Bella to Donnell Jezza from the world of trial to
[2:38]the world of reward in these next few nights and focusing on
[2:43]the soul we cannot forget about ensuring that we look after the
[2:47]body that is now died the body that is now dead cannot
[2:53]be forgotten because the person simply wants to focus on the journey
[2:58]of the soul yes the soul does taste some of the anguish
[3:00]of death by the same time Islamic law sought to stress that
[3:05]each and every one of us has to make sure that we
[3:07]are there to take a responsibility for our fellow Muslim brother or
[3:13]sister who has died a person cannot simply know about a death
[3:19]that has happened in the community without recognizing the obligation upon them
[3:22]known in Arabic as why job cough ie but at least one
[3:27]or more have to have undertaken the responsibility of ensuring that that
[3:33]body for example is washed or that body is shrouded or that
[3:37]body is eventually buried and you find therefore that every school within
[3:43]the religion of Islam has their own perspective on how exactly the
[3:49]Muslim body should be treated upon death we know that in the
[3:53]Muslim world today there are a number of legal schools we are
[3:55]known as the jack for a school there are others who are
[4:00]known as the Hanafi school named after Naaman bin thabit abu hanifa
[4:03]others who are known as the Maliki school named after Malik bananas
[4:08]others which are known as the shaft school known as Muhammad bin
[4:13]at least the Schaffer a hiss tool the Schaffer school as well
[4:16]as the humbly school the school of Mohammed will humble that's not
[4:19]to forget other schools who have their own understandings of the rites
[4:22]and rituals of burial this miley's the Zaidi's within the Shia for
[4:29]example the e bodies as well all of these different schools of
[4:32]law seek to find an understanding of how to look after that
[4:35]body when it's died that's a Muslim in their understanding of death
[4:41]and the hereafter cannot forget the importance of looking after the body
[4:45]of ensuring that body dies and is dignified in that period and
[4:54]the process of death and this without a doubt has become even
[4:56]more important with the rise of the coronavirus if you ask many
[5:01]Muslims we were used to that's when we'd hear a piece of
[5:05]news of someone passing away we're always used to a particular burial
[5:09]committee in our mosques in our mosques there would be a burial
[5:12]committee who would be looking after that dead body that has now
[5:19]got into their hands they will look after the shrouding they'll look
[5:22]after the washing and they'll look after the burial process but how
[5:27]about now with the coronavirus a number of questions have arisen and
[5:32]indeed these questions have bought about a lot of discussions in the
[5:35]Muslim community because the Muslim community used to pride itself that it
[5:40]was a community that would always ensure that it looked after the
[5:44]dead body a community that would always ensure that it would protect
[5:51]the rights of the family of the deceased and now we are
[5:54]told that we have to wear certain equipment we are told even
[5:59]that one may not necessarily be necessary when there is a danger
[6:04]involved that we move towards the world of say Imam and that
[6:07]same moon may not even be necessary and that there may be
[6:13]a situation where a Muslim dies without having gone through what many
[6:17]before them have gone through does this therefore have an effect on
[6:21]them in the hereafter what do I want most to about this
[6:25]because there is an emotional connection with the dead person who's just
[6:30]lost their father and has been to many funerals for example would
[6:34]be somebody who'll turn around and say that wait everybody else I
[6:40]heard about their fathers having a hostel having a calf and having
[6:45]for example the different waters which were used to wash him having
[6:49]the burial take place with the ocean being the basis of it
[6:54]and now you're telling me that my father will not go through
[6:57]all of this so some people without a doubt have had an
[6:59]emotional reaction to this in the sense that some of these people
[7:04]what have they said they've said very clearly that why is this
[7:08]happening and what are the opinions of our manraja on this and
[7:11]that's why you find that many of the followers of the Maharaja
[7:15]in the world today especially the followers of Ayatollah Sistani may Allah
[7:20]lengthen his life straightway began to ask that with coronavirus how do
[7:24]the laws of the burial of the dead change how do we
[7:27]adapt the laws of the burial of the dead to the context
[7:31]that we're in and how much does one consult the health authorities
[7:34]was on the one hand and the legal manuals I see for
[7:40]example Qatar masala ok Tabata Hara pocketable Jannah is these chapters on
[7:45]prayer or impurity or on death all have a section which discuss
[7:53]the burial process but I also see the world health authorities and
[7:56]organisations as well as local government giving their opinions about what is
[8:02]to happen with a body with corona so therefore how do we
[8:07]approach this now because the world has changed in more ways than
[8:11]one not economically not only spiritually but also legally now with the
[8:17]dead body of a Muslim male or a Muslim female how do
[8:20]the laws then evolve or what are the laws in such an
[8:27]emergency situation let's seek to dissect this topic in depth tonight and
[8:31]I'd like to do this in the following stages which famous she
[8:37]a scholar was the one who highlighted to us that make sure
[8:41]the person you're burying has actually died and you don't want the
[8:45]mistake of them being alive while they're under the ground number two
[8:49]which animal taught us how to bury a human being and how
[8:53]did that humble those at the time at the beginning of creation
[8:56]number three what exactly is the stage by stage process in which
[9:04]a Muslim marries another Muslim and how do we understand the wisdom
[9:08]and the meaning behind this process number four with kovin 19 say
[9:13]I have personal protective equipment must I and is it obligatory upon
[9:20]me to then wash the body or do I move on to
[9:24]tear mum and what are the different conditions that apply number five
[9:31]is anyone allowed to exhume a body or to open a grave
[9:34]and watch are the conditions related to this number six does a
[9:39]person for example wash the body other miscarried fetus in the womb
[9:47]of the mother and for example when does the salat and may
[9:50]it or the prayer for the deceased begin what age does it
[9:55]begin from number seven which famous grand scholar in his will highlighted
[10:00]that when he dies and when you're about to bury him make
[10:07]sure that the following are included with him in his grave and
[10:10]all these allowed to be included and what is the basis of
[10:15]what he said and finally which great personalities can we empathize with
[10:21]in this day and age who may not have had many at
[10:22]and their funerals may not have had many attend their burials and
[10:29]may not even have had hot the fastest of processes when it
[10:33]came to burial let's examine this and dissect the topic in complete
[10:36]depth imagine you bury someone and place them under the ground six
[10:43]feet under only for you to realize that they're not actually dead
[10:46]that probably would be one of the worst moments that you could
[10:50]ever face in your life what we would probably call the fleshly
[10:53]in our community and an absolute embarrassment and I don't think that
[10:57]the person who would be under the ground would be necessarily somebody
[11:01]would be too happy with you but when it happened to one
[11:06]of the great scholars in Shia history then no doubt you found
[11:11]that this scholar made a vow that if he came out from
[11:16]under the ground he would write a particular text which scholar of
[11:20]the greatest scholars that we had in shia history born in the
[11:28]fifth century around the year 468 after hijra and died in the
[11:32]year 548 after hijra was the famous scholar by the name of
[11:39]his father ben hassan al de Bercy yes hassan babar see without
[11:42]a doubt was one of our great scholars you always will hear
[11:48]his name mentioned in relation to many of the greatest text that
[11:52]we have you found that this scholar born in Mashhad was a
[11:55]scholar who had left a great legacy in his community at the
[12:00]bar sea until today many people read his texts he has had
[12:04]a heart attack and the people around him had thought that he
[12:07]had passed away so when they thought that he had passed away
[12:09]they show that there were no signs of him communicating back with
[12:15]them of course maybe the medical equipment at that time was not
[12:18]necessarily as sophisticated as the medical equipment that we have now so
[12:22]what did they end up doing they actually ended up burying him
[12:24]now you know that's within Shia law when a person for example
[12:29]makes the hole in the ground for the person to be taken
[12:31]six feet under for the deceased to be taken under the ground
[12:38]they so make a small let's say hole or room on the
[12:40]side there may be some air which they're able to breathe from
[12:45]that small area that area is almost a hub but some people
[12:47]make that small room on the side they Fatah bar see when
[12:53]he was buried you found that when he was buried everybody had
[12:57]assumed that he had died everybody had assumed that he had passed
[13:01]away and he had been there unto the ground imagine all of
[13:06]a sudden when he woke up he's looking around and thinking hold
[13:09]on a minute what's going on over here where is everybody and
[13:13]then he realized that they had buried him and he hadn't even
[13:18]died when this was realized by him you can imagine what was
[13:21]going through his head but that moment he did something he said
[13:27]I make a vow Yallah that's if I find a way out
[13:32]of this grave which they buried me within then I'm going to
[13:35]write that's f seer of the holy quran now he's thinking this
[13:40]is most precarious situation anyone can ever find themselves in buried under
[13:44]the ground definitely no one's gonna be walking around the graveyard unless
[13:50]you're someone who had a particular job stealing the shrouds because in
[13:55]those days there used to be some people used to hang around
[13:58]the graveyards they'd wait until someone's got buried the moment they've got
[14:03]buried then what would they do they'd come when nobody's looking and
[14:07]they'd steal their Caffyn and then they'd go and sell their Kevin
[14:13]in the market so therefore when Bob RC had turned around in
[14:17]his grave and said that he are Allah I promised that I
[14:23]will write its FCN of the Holy Quran if you find a
[14:25]way for me o Allah that I'm able to get out of
[14:30]this grave then that SEFs here will definitely be written so what
[14:34]took place that person who was walking around he's thinking you know
[14:39]what who's been buried today and he saw that they had just
[14:42]left the grave of the great scholar so he came to the
[14:46]grave started digging it all of a sudden he saw a hand
[14:48]pulling now you imagine that you at that moment see a hand
[14:54]come out from the grave you're thinking what's going on gets frightened
[14:57]he says no no wait wait and you know that these people
[15:02]who would steal the shrouds they would be people from the local
[15:06]community so you would find that he would know charitable see he
[15:10]would know his voice so straight away he told him that look
[15:16]I'm the squalor babar see he heard his voice and when he
[15:18]heard his voice he straightaway thought to himself that's hold on that
[15:24]is his voice it's him he said well how are you talking
[15:26]you're buried under the ground he said to him because they thought
[15:34]that I had died but on the contrary I had had that
[15:35]heart attack but I managed to regain consciousness Allah subhanAllah Silas the
[15:40]giver of life and he caused his death they thought that he
[15:43]had died so he said oh please let me come out of
[15:48]this grave the person of course said well hold on I come
[15:53]here to steal the shrouds and people find out and I'm in
[15:54]trouble so if I saved you people are gonna be asking what's
[15:56]happening said listen don't worry about it I'll let you have my
[16:00]shroud just get me back I beg you so he took him
[16:03]he placed him on his back and he went back towards the
[16:07]community of course everyone was in shock everyone was thinking hold on
[16:10]a minute what's happened on the first level that person who steals
[16:13]the shrouds that person who steals the shrouds admitted and said listen
[16:17]I repent I'll never be stealing any more shrouds that moment taught
[16:24]me a lesson that when I saw a hand coming out of
[16:26]the grave and I heard a voice that's when I knew you
[16:29]know what enough is enough I'm not going through this ever again
[16:31]Tamar C ended up writing the famous Tessier of the Holy Quran
[16:39]known as ma Albion Madame Alba and alongside the TV on a
[16:43]long silence fzero alumina brahim and furiten cofee these are classic books
[16:48]of tafseer of exegesis interpretation of the verses of the holy quran
[16:53]of course he wrote two other books which were also forms of
[16:59]tafseer you had Jamel Joe Hamer and Alois fee but the most
[17:03]famous one until today is which one the most famous one until
[17:06]today is matcha man behind so therefore you found that's on the
[17:12]first level when we Muslims want to marry someone first make sure
[17:15]that that person has died then the moment you know they've died
[17:21]on which basis the humanity realize that they buried that body under
[17:25]the ground from the story of habil and by being that story
[17:28]of Abel and Cain which is mentioned within the Bible it's also
[17:33]mentioned within the Holy Quran because you can imagine that all of
[17:37]us have seen us or that inmates all of us have seen
[17:41]a janitor all of us have seen all of these different funerals
[17:44]but what happens if you saw the first-ever death in humanity what
[17:49]then happens how would you know necessarily what to do at that
[17:55]moment so you had these two brothers fabian and happy they weren't
[17:59]people who had lived with millions of others and had seen different
[18:03]texts revealed these were two brothers who were living with their father
[18:08]and you found that these two brothers one of them had an
[18:12]Envy to the other Kabir could not take the fact that habil
[18:16]was appointed by God to represent Nabi item alayhis-salam should be the
[18:25]success of Nabi item so when i b1 trade that position he
[18:27]told his brother he said to him and highlighted just what envy
[18:33]can do to you because no doubt that Envy devours faith like
[18:37]fire devours wood the first lesson we ever learnt in the history
[18:42]of humanity about burying the dead came from Clavel in habil that
[18:49]I will sit reveal pile actually neck he said I will kill
[18:52]you and happily replied back to his brother highlighting the softness of
[18:56]the heart of habil and the fact that habil did not want
[19:01]to resort to killing as the progress for Humanity he said Jim
[19:05]Lane Bassets ala had occurred it's actually nee mana be Basel Tony
[19:10]ah da la clé actually if you put forward your hand to
[19:14]strike me I will not forward my hand to strike you why
[19:19]in a half allah rabbul aalameen not because I'm scared of you
[19:22]what do you think I am I'm scared of you I'm not
[19:25]scared of you but I fear a day where I have to
[19:30]answer to my lord when my prophet has said to me that
[19:31]I am his successor then that's appointment as an appointment from allah
[19:35]subhanaw taala I'm not the one who has appointed myself and further
[19:39]than that you're my brother and I wouldn't expect you to be
[19:45]someone who shows this type of hate towards me eventually die being
[19:49]killed hobby when Camille killed hobby in Crabbie's did not know what
[19:54]to do it's not like us today we have all of the
[19:57]chapters all of the hadith all the traditions and that time didn't
[20:00]know what to do unless of Hannah what's a ila how did
[20:03]he teach him what to do Allah subhana Allah sent a Crone
[20:08]and I mean I just killed this brother is baffled what do
[20:12]I do my brother's body is there and he looked around and
[20:16]he saw this scroll when he saw the crow he saw the
[20:19]crow burying another crawl and in that moment he said woe be
[20:26]unto me that's how arrogant am i that I've killed not only
[20:29]my brother I've killed a fellow human being but also I didn't
[20:32]even know what to do with the body and if that body
[20:36]was just there lying on the ground what exactly do I do
[20:41]when he saw the crow burying the other crow he realized that
[20:43]that was the method to be undertaken that you take that body
[20:51]and you bury it in the ground low enough so that two
[20:53]things become principles number one the animals could not come and eat
[20:57]that body and number two there is no smell that comes from
[21:02]that body basic principles when it comes to burying the dead in
[21:06]Islam is that normally we hear the phrase Six Feet Under yes
[21:09]five six feet is the average height of the human being that's
[21:14]how low you go down enough someone might argue okay what if
[21:18]it's a bit higher even if it's just a bit higher than
[21:22]that but make sure that it's enough that no animal can go
[21:24]into the ground and that the smell of the deceased body in
[21:28]no way affects the people are and that's why the intricacies within
[21:31]the religion of Islam when it came to marrying the dead can
[21:36]be found from the traditions of the Prophet peace be upon his
[21:39]family all the way until the Imams of our time you'll find
[21:45]that each and every one of them came with an example provided
[21:48]us with an example as to how is it that we bury
[21:52]the dead body it's sad that's in the Muslim community today there
[21:56]are many who have never attended a class to understand the way
[22:00]burial takes place if you sit with many of the Muslim community
[22:05]and you ask them they might say to you okay loosen kapphahn
[22:08]defin but you ask them tell me further tell me the intricacies
[22:15]many assume that they'll never have to take up a position where
[22:19]they have to be responsible for example of the dead or for
[22:22]example of looking after the deceased the reality is that we could
[22:27]find ourselves in a situation where one day we have to emigrate
[22:32]and we have to establish a place for us where we bury
[22:34]the dead of our community as I mentioned sahaja bie and al
[22:40]hamdulillah in our communities since the 70s since the 80s so many
[22:45]members of our communities established places where a person was able to
[22:52]see that their family members were washed and they were shrouded and
[22:57]they were buried but there is a need for more of us
[23:01]to understand this what are the stages involved that if say for
[23:03]example when my parents died and I need to know what are
[23:10]the stages for burying the dead as we said Christianity or Hinduism
[23:14]may for example at certain times talk of cremation others like Judaism
[23:19]may have rituals similar to us what are there for our rituals
[23:26]or our laws when it comes to burying the dead and the
[23:29]regime Islam fundamental in our understanding of death first and foremost that
[23:33]dead body when you receive it you obviously recognize that you need
[23:38]to wash it at the beginning to clear away any stool that
[23:43]may be there may be feces there there could be vomiting there
[23:47]they could be blood there so you from the outset will make
[23:53]sure that you try and give that body a wash a person
[23:54]wears gloves because you know that one of the hustles which becomes
[23:59]why chip for us is the whole when a person has touched
[24:05]that cold body if you have touched the warm body for example
[24:08]that's just passed away it is not the same as when a
[24:14]person touches the coldness of that dead body rustle becomes why Jim
[24:19]on that person who has touched that cold deceased body but if
[24:24]they wear gloves for example then at that moment as long as
[24:28]they know that for example they're wearing their clothing and they're wearing
[24:34]those gloves and that if there is no splashing of that water
[24:37]for example that touching that is there then that whistle does not
[24:40]become why jump on them so person wears gloves and there may
[24:44]be a few people who are undertaking that goes on when they're
[24:48]undertaking that washing of that dead body we find that these few
[24:54]people who are there the one who is going to begin with
[24:56]the pouring of the water has to be the one who makes
[25:02]the near they make the intention that they're beginning the stages of
[25:06]the washing of the deceased at the beginning when that person has
[25:09]died of course you put them up their feet face Babla so
[25:13]that's when they gets up they face Babla straight away you bring
[25:17]them towards the whole room when you bring them those people who
[25:20]are in charge the one who's in charge of pouring the water
[25:24]will make his intention when they make their intention of course men
[25:29]wash the bodies of men and the female washes the body of
[25:32]the female a husband can wash his wife's body and the wife
[25:41]can wash her husband's body of course the only school that does
[25:45]not allow the husband to wash the wife's body is the Hanafi
[25:52]school of law they're the ones who stipulate that the husband cannot
[25:56]wash the wife's body but the wife can wash the husband's body
[26:03]why because they say the husband when he died when for example
[26:06]that wife has died the husband now the marital bonds are broken
[26:11]so the husband cannot touch his wife but the wife can wash
[26:19]the husband's body because she's still in her i death of being
[26:23]a widow we know that the idea period for a widow is
[26:28]four months and 10 days so that lady is not going anywhere
[26:30]she's gonna make sure she makes full use of that otherwise male
[26:36]will wash male female washes female and you find therefore of course
[26:41]if it's a young child then these laws will change someone for
[26:45]example under the age of three it will not apply but generally
[26:49]of course in the laws of Mahamaya the male will wash the
[26:52]male and the female will wash the female when for example this
[26:56]group of males are there and they're washing that body the person
[27:03]who's washing made their intention and when they made their intention they
[27:07]will come with the washing they will use three different types of
[27:10]waters or the liquids they'll have that water which is mixed with
[27:15]siddur yes the berry leaves and they'll have that water which is
[27:22]mixed with the camphor and they'll have that water which is pure
[27:25]water when I say mixed we don't want to reach a stage
[27:27]where we cannot tell that this is water any more there is
[27:31]a slight mixing so enough of that sitter or enough of that
[27:33]camphor is there and they bring it together and when they bring
[27:40]it together they begin with the washing of course the private parts
[27:43]have to be covered by a piece of cloth that private part
[27:48]cannot be exposed and everything that happens within the washing of the
[27:55]dead body in Islam those who are washing cannot ever say anything
[28:00]outside about what they saw because there is a sanctity to that
[28:04]dead body yes the bodies die and decay and the soul continues
[28:07]to go on its journey that doesn't mean that a person disrespects
[28:11]that dead body that dead body is to be respected with honor
[28:19]that dead body is not to be a body which is ripped
[28:20]up or destroyed or even when you come to certain discussions about
[28:25]post-mortems Islam say is gonna ask for other bodies if they are
[28:34]available before a person takes your body that is with you ask
[28:37]for other bodies if they want to find for example new scientific
[28:40]material there are other bodies that they can use the whole idea
[28:46]of ripping up a body for scientific knowledge while Islam does not
[28:49]dismiss this outright says that there has to be a particular sanctity
[28:52]to the body of the human beings so therefore when these people
[28:57]are washing of course in some cases when you're washing you'll find
[29:01]then maybe some nails will come up with some hairs you bring
[29:04]them all together with the body you don't throw these away or
[29:06]you'll find for example that someone who's had a head injury their
[29:11]body may be bleeding profusely you get a plastic bag for example
[29:15]and you cover the head of that person to ensure that this
[29:21]blood for example is that blood which a person is able to
[29:24]control because while that bleeding is there you may even have to
[29:26]put a plaster on that bleeding and a person therefore continues they
[29:32]make sure that what have they done they make sure that they
[29:35]have wash this body from every direction they're delicate with that body
[29:40]Islam wanted us to show respect to that body a person doesn't
[29:43]just move it around from the right side to the left side
[29:47]on the left side to the right side without care no even
[29:50]when they want to let the fingers out or they want to
[29:52]let the arms out the feet out everything is done with care
[29:58]everything is done with respect even the washing that is done softly
[30:02]a person recognizes that when someone's died there is still a feeling
[30:06]there and there is still an attachment there with the soul so
[30:12]a person is delicate with what they're doing so once we've done
[30:16]all of this we've made sure that we've washed every single section
[30:19]we made sure that even areas the areas of the private parts
[30:25]all of them have been washed then we will take off those
[30:27]cloths we'll keep on changing those cloths and we will make sure
[30:34]that's at the same time we have what about that car for
[30:37]when we bring that car for replace that's where we place it
[30:42]on the seven places of sujood yes there are seven places where
[30:46]it's obligatory for us the so Jorge on the forehead of course
[30:52]when it comes to our hands the palms we have our knees
[30:55]and we have our toes all of these areas for sujood are
[31:00]obligatory will place it on each of those areas and then we'll
[31:04]make sure that when that is done that that kafon is placed
[31:10]that Kevin which is placed those cloths have to be placed three
[31:14]different cloths of course some might talk about more to ensure that
[31:18]a full covering has taken place but normally the belly button the
[31:23]navel area and from the neck down and the covering of the
[31:27]whole shirt the longer shirt on the body that Kevin therefore is
[31:34]to be placed that Kevin is to be placed and of course
[31:37]you find that this Russell and Kevin applies even to that four
[31:43]month old baby that may have been miscarried selected may get on
[31:46]the other hand will apply to the child when they're above the
[31:49]age of six but before that the whole is to be given
[31:54]if it can be done even to the baby so what you
[31:58]have therefore is that once the Russell has been done and once
[32:01]the Kevin has been done so we've had the was all done
[32:05]and we've had the Kevin done likewise if someone says okay what
[32:08]if I never had water then I am mum is to be
[32:12]done yes and tell mom how is it to be done is
[32:16]to be done that when the person for example comes in the
[32:20]same way that there are certain areas where tayammum takes place because
[32:23]we know that the earth has been made a place of prostration
[32:26]and purity for us as the Holy Prophet peace be upon him
[32:32]and family said God What did he say in a majority a
[32:34]loud masculine wat ahora the earth has been made place of frustration
[32:39]for me hence we pray on a table or on the more
[32:43]on the surge the god oh the and the earth has been
[32:44]made a place of purity for me purity in which way that's
[32:50]when we perform tayammum in the same way that we perform tayammum
[32:52]and we come to the forehead bring our hands down go to
[32:56]wiping the hands likewise a person does that on that dead body
[33:02]if they could not do her son you'll make sure that you
[33:06]touch the areas of the forehead the areas of the right and
[33:12]the left hand that is to be done for them as well
[33:16]so when somebody now has completed what they've come Universal they've completed
[33:19]the calf and where do they go now they go towards the
[33:25]burial when we go towards the burial okay the defin we go
[33:29]towards that barium and we have someone who will lead the salah
[33:35]salat in May it somebody will come and lead it's one of
[33:38]the Milano's or one of the scholars of the community when they
[33:44]come towards leading for us with this salah there are a few
[33:47]points which are to be noted what are they first and foremost
[33:52]within the salon a person does not need to do over for
[33:58]them to take part in salat in me secondly you can even
[34:01]wear shoes when taking part in salat in me it's in the
[34:04]genesis of the maids and that prayer thirdly you find that there
[34:09]is some sort of cool and there isn't to sujood there's no
[34:13]bowing and there's no prostration within the Salah for the dead fourthly
[34:18]there are certain acts that the Mawlana will perform or that he'll
[34:22]recite of course in front of him will be the person who
[34:28]has died he'll stand in the middle behind that person and if
[34:31]it's a lady he'll stand by for example behind the chest area
[34:37]of the lady and you'll find that he will come and this
[34:40]Salah at the beginning like Salah chelate will hear a solid a
[34:46]solid a solid three times Allah till May it and then he'll
[34:50]come to a distance where if the wind blew for example the
[34:53]thigh or the abhayam that he's wearing it would touch that particular
[35:00]casket or that coffin let's say in certain situations and that's where
[35:07]he will stand and then he will do the Salah when he
[35:10]performs the Salah within GE law we have five Jack be right
[35:16]for the Salah other schools in Islam you'll see that they have
[35:20]four check be right for the Salah we have five so therefore
[35:25]we say Allahu Akbar five times the mallanna will lead some of
[35:28]what he says is why some of what is said is loose
[35:33]to happen so the maulana will come and stand for example what's
[35:39]his why jim allah mohammad rasool allah allahu akbar allah allah muhammad
[35:47]wa ala muhammad allahu akbar then he'll move on to a llama
[35:51]phenomena when women are 12 Muslim you know when Muslim arch allahu
[35:58]akbar allah ma certainly hasn't made that person who is buried there
[36:02]he'll mention their name or if he doesn't know their name is
[36:05]a llama fur Laden marriage and then allahu akbar and the salah
[36:11]is complete that is the watcher portion of watch of the salat
[36:16]in marriage otherwise some more learners will recite more mastaba there's no
[36:21]problem there from there we'll go towards burying that person will take
[36:27]them under the ground therefore that was seen as being the burial
[36:31]process within the muslim graveyard many have purchased areas within non-muslim graveyards
[36:37]but are areas for the Muslim community that's what's seen as the
[36:42]method but now covert 19 what about a change and we know
[36:46]but sometimes there are emergency situations where Islamic law makes an exception
[36:53]but above all else is what above all else is to provide
[36:55]protection for the life of the human being for example we know
[37:01]that eating pork in Islam is completely prohibited it's Haram for a
[37:05]person to eat pork does not matter small amount of pork small
[37:11]amount of bacon it is completely forbidden for a Muslim change same
[37:15]way flesh of the swine was spoken of in the faiths before
[37:18]Islam likewise in Islam you find that a Muslim it is prohibited
[37:25]for them to eat pork say this Muslim is in an area
[37:30]where there is absolutely nothing that you can eat there's nothing there's
[37:34]not even shrubs on the ground barren piece of land no one's
[37:37]gonna pick up rocks and eat them so say for example you
[37:40]are in that moment and you're absolutely starving your moments away from
[37:45]dying and the only thing in front of you for example is
[37:48]that you can only eat that pork is the person allowed the
[37:55]Quran even mentions that although eating the flesh of the swine is
[38:00]that which is prohibited except in a situation where you are compelled
[38:03]yes that situation where you're compelled only then may a person for
[38:09]example eat that which normally is prohibited what's happening here a law
[38:13]which is established in relation to our dietary habits something which we
[38:20]in the community are used to all of a sudden now we
[38:23]can't why because of the emergency situation we have to give it
[38:28]a different application sometimes even there is a clash between two areas
[38:35]of law let's say for example my neighbor in their swimming pool
[38:38]they have a swimming pool in their garden and I see their
[38:40]child is drowning in the pool I'm in my garden and I
[38:47]see their child drowning their child is going to die I face
[38:53]a clash of legal principles here on the one hand I'm not
[38:56]allowed to enter somebody else's property without their permission you can go
[39:00]to the laws of gossipy and other laws on the other hand
[39:02]Islam tells me that I have to look after and save the
[39:06]life of the human being what takes precedence here yes and the
[39:11]laws of Amorim will hem you'll find that the life of the
[39:16]human being the safety of the human being all takes precedence why
[39:20]do we say this because when it's come to the issue of
[39:23]the coronavirus and covet 19 we have this situation that's arisen where
[39:32]now if a person wants to do hustle like you would normally
[39:34]do in washing the body of the deceased we have the danger
[39:40]of the virus affecting us and us affecting others in our households
[39:43]and in the community as then we look around us and we
[39:46]find that there are doctors and hospitals and those in the NHS
[39:51]who are doing amazing work but you find that they'll tell you
[39:53]blatantly that listen I have had it and I've been working in
[39:55]there are others who definitely have been affected by the corona virus
[40:02]so then you had what's known as personal protection the equipment which
[40:06]is personal protective equipment which a person has to wear so the
[40:11]guidelines then emerge for us what do we do say someone in
[40:13]our community now has died does what's will become obligatory on them
[40:19]in normal cases yes but in this case we have to see
[40:26]is their PPE in the center is the rumor room which is
[40:29]disinfected is the area and area where the ventilation is enough for
[40:34]us to say that we are safeguarding those who are performing the
[40:40]whole yes in this moment if Ayatollah Sistani malar legs is in
[40:44]his life gives us a ruling about those who have died Ayatollah
[40:51]Sistani gives the Sarah a ruling then we have to look at
[40:53]our particular area yes I was raised on this issue is that
[40:59]we have to look at the area where we're living what is
[41:02]the guidelines that are being given and how do we bring about
[41:07]a discussion between those guidelines and what our merger has said to
[41:11]us in relation to looking after the dead because we know that
[41:17]Islamically death is a moment where a muslim has to make sure
[41:19]they honor that dead body so I don't want to be in
[41:24]a situation where I come on the day of judgement my Lord
[41:26]looks towards me and my Lord saves to me that's why did
[41:31]you not give us all when I had made it obligatory upon
[41:36]you I told Isis Danny tells us and makes it very clear
[41:39]if you have that personal protective equipment and the people their life
[41:45]is not in danger who are performing it you have all of
[41:49]the means necessary then Hasan is to be performed however if you
[41:55]see that the situation you are in is a difficult dangerous situation
[42:02]where for example you may have all the equipment that covers you
[42:05]let's say from your belly button up and all the necessary vices
[42:09]and all the necessary masks but still you recognize that there may
[42:14]be a difficulty then you move from Hassan to Tay a mum
[42:20]don't worry and be anxious that you know what yeah Allah that's
[42:23]my mother I want to make sure she's given what everyone else's
[42:28]mother received your own mother would probably turn around you and say
[42:32]son save God your household safeguard your life safeguard yourself Ayatollah Sistani
[42:37]therefore provided us with these guidelines so therefore some mosques in the
[42:42]UK they have the personal protective equipment and they've gone ahead with
[42:46]telling the people that we will perform the hustle and they've performed
[42:52]what so graciously and they've done a wonderful job others it's at
[42:58]their discretion if they feel that there is a danger in the
[43:01]area they're in a danger that some of the people they're participating
[43:07]don't have the training a danger that they may not have enough
[43:10]people then they can move from horse Allah towards Taylor mom someone
[43:14]says okay if I move from Hassan towards Taylor mom let's say
[43:21]I do this there's no problem but how do we do take
[43:23]a mum on this body that has been affected by the coronavirus
[43:30]because one school said but look at that body it's not gonna
[43:33]infect you at the corner - we haven't reached the conclusion on
[43:38]this medicine is still finding out so now if I move on
[43:40]to tell you mum there is no problem if your Islamic center
[43:43]moves on to take a mum if they feel that even with
[43:48]the PPE there are still dangers involved risks involved there is a
[43:52]terrace that has to be done on this area a merger may
[43:56]give you a fatwa for example and you may have your own
[43:58]cash piece on a particular area where you discuss this area with
[44:03]your community you've got for example some hospitals who say that body
[44:07]doesn't come out of that body bag so therefore what would you
[44:13]do exactly what I said earlier with Tam mum if say you
[44:15]had a normal case not one with coronavirus what did we say
[44:20]you said the same way the area's you do tell mum um
[44:22]for example those areas which you do it on you will do
[44:28]the same on the top of that body bag so you've got
[44:33]the body bag on top of that body bag you will make
[44:35]sure that the person's hands and their forehead for example that area
[44:41]all of it or from the top of the body bag is
[44:44]done someone says what about these other areas where I want to
[44:48]splash the water and so on no because this is an emergency
[44:50]situation and there are exceptions and let me make it clear if
[44:54]we find dangers with Rochelle and difficulties would say a mom I
[45:01]shall assist Annie even reaches a stage where the only thing to
[45:03]be done at the end is the Salah of the make it
[45:06]that's it someone will say but will Allah punish why would Allah
[45:10]punish you don't be too pedantic with Islamic law the religion of
[45:14]Islam has its norms but it has its exceptions and this is
[45:19]exception the people's lives may be in danger they may go home
[45:22]they may infect others therefore when I follow my Marja what's my
[45:28]mother telling me he's telling me that you are the one who
[45:31]knows about this religion alai you have studied or I I'm the
[45:35]one who's given you the general ruling duties of the ruling to
[45:38]your particular centre to your particular environment and then come with a
[45:43]conclusion as to what should be done when he says this therefore
[45:46]to us those were the guidelines to be given to us today
[45:49]therefore with our local centers alhamdulillah may Allah bless all of our
[45:54]senses in the UK and around the world for their diligence for
[45:58]their hard work and for their sensitivity in these times these are
[46:05]not easy times when it comes to burial of the dead and
[46:08]that's why normally you'll find that our Genesis Allah tell me it
[46:10]so many people will be there when it's restricted to five or
[46:14]six is for our safety I wish there could be thousands there
[46:18]but it's for our safety someone asks that is there any possibility
[46:26]in Islamic law that someone has died and you're all able to
[46:29]for example exhume the grave or you're able to open the grave
[46:35]in terms of exhuming the grave for a particular exceptions you find
[46:38]that the shear in the Maliki school allow it in terms of
[46:41]opening the grave these exceptions can be given by the ruling authorities
[46:47]for a particular reason I remember there was a group that had
[46:50]come from Kuwait they had come for Sierra of Emir and mina
[46:55]a salam one of them their sister died when she died you
[46:58]found that they had to perform the salah and salat and marry
[47:04]it and the burial where they had to perform it and why
[47:08]did salam what is salam may allah bless all of us to
[47:11]visit why this salaam that graveyard and the vicinity of Ameer al-mumineen
[47:15]salawats Allah is Allah male when people talk of the souls which
[47:20]go too wide about who and why this Salam which will come
[47:22]true when discussing the world of Bursa found this person buried his
[47:26]sister because there was a number of people the Jana's are from
[47:31]the group while they were burying a sister he had gone down
[47:33]in the grave when he had left he realized that his passport
[47:40]had fallen where in the grave went to see Ayatollah Roy may
[47:43]Allah bless his soul when he went to see I too like
[47:48]Hawaii he said to him Mawlana I buried the dead like the
[47:50]religion of Islam taught me we did everything the Hassan the calf
[47:56]and the shrouding the washing everything was done salat in May it
[48:01]was done Mawlana I have just realized that my passport has fallen
[48:05]within the grave can an exception be given where I can ask
[48:09]those within the graveyard to go and on the take literally the
[48:17]task of getting that possible school with them this exception but please
[48:21]make sure they don't open it up entirely he says I went
[48:23]there and he says when I went there I began to realize
[48:27]that as they were opening it I saw the passport but I
[48:32]had seen that what I thought would be a Kevin on or
[48:35]a shroud on my sister's body was no longer there I didn't
[48:40]want to see any more I straight to a took the passport
[48:43]they covered the grave I went back to I to La Jolla
[48:48]I said to him Mawlana this happened that my sister only just
[48:51]got buried I came to you came to your office and it
[48:55]was a exception that you allowed me to get my passport Noland
[48:58]but now I realized something I realized that that Kevin was no
[49:05]longer there Mawlana we only buried her a few hours back and
[49:07]he says Allah who I put his head on the ground towards
[49:13]the ground and then he looked towards me and he said that
[49:15]sometimes these things happen he said Mawlana what do you mean he
[49:21]said that there is a moment when the Angels that after you've
[49:24]just died they look towards you and say o you who did
[49:28]not cover herself above the ground why now be concerned about the
[49:32]cover below the ground when we look at some of these like
[49:35]the shrouding i cover myself as i'm about to enter the grave
[49:42]why not cover myself before I get to the grave when I'm
[49:46]under the grave now the questioning will begin and we're going to
[49:49]begin very shortly can the dead understand and hear us and then
[49:54]we'll begin discussing tell pain and we'll begin discussing the squeezing of
[49:58]the grave in the forthcoming nights but some truly if you look
[50:02]at a burial process look at the burial when it takes place
[50:04]ask yourself that this person is gonna be me one day will
[50:10]I be ready to answer that covering that they have did I
[50:16]cover in that way that purity that they have was i purified
[50:19]in my lifetime these are all questions we have to ask ourselves
[50:23]the reality is that there many don'ts but there are certain things
[50:27]that you can help the dead when you're burying them for example
[50:32]make sure that Dodge Ocean al-kabir is there make sure of course
[50:38]the Holy Quran I shall courtesy these all have a beneficial effect
[50:43]but also try and follow what Ayatollah almanach in Najaf II has
[50:48]been guiding us with as you know many of you know 20
[50:53]minutes every night 20 25 30 minutes we talk about Italian maraschino
[50:56]cherry in the evening at the Haider Islamic centre and these are
[51:00]available you can listen to them live 20 minutes 30 minutes this
[51:05]man was a grand scholar in poem and he knew that his
[51:08]death was coming and he wanted to make sure that in his
[51:14]will he wanted to make sure that it was clear that before
[51:19]he dies he gives instructions to his son said Mahmoud about what
[51:23]is to be done and what did he say to his son
[51:28]he said to his son that's all my son when you undertake
[51:31]the burial rites firstly I want you to make sure that you
[51:39]are of those who buries me with my handkerchief that I used
[51:43]to wipe away the tears for Imam al-hussein alehissalaam imagine he said
[51:48]that I want within my grave the handkerchief that I used some
[51:54]of you may have some tissue next to you some of you
[51:55]may have always used the handkerchief when Messiah Jose analysis Alam were
[51:59]being recited he said my son when I die and when we
[52:03]die we want to make sure that we have everything which shows
[52:08]our identity that I'm a Hosseini in every way possible he said
[52:12]that handkerchief that I used places him there number 2 the black
[52:15]cloth that I used to wear in Muharram when I used to
[52:22]remember say the Shahada and the modulus of say Shraddha put that
[52:24]in there as well yes make use of all of these my
[52:29]dear brothers and sisters in your will to your beloved tell them
[52:33]that this was a handkerchief I used to use when I used
[52:35]to you for example recite a mafia or a casino no ha
[52:39]or a Latvia or a net B yeah I used to wipe
[52:43]the sweat which was them in modulus and Hussein and me remembering
[52:48]say the Shahada so used to say the handkerchief you could put
[52:53]a tissue you say my black cloth and used to always say
[52:55]and on Thursdays sit there and remember the Masai above Imam al-hussein
[53:00]Ali Salaam by my grave after I've died why did he say
[53:07]this because in these moments when some of us have lost our
[53:09]beloved parents or uncles it hurts us when we don't see many
[53:15]at the genisis some of only had five six according to guidelines
[53:17]with a Mawlana leading the Salah it hurts us that we cannot
[53:24]see our beloved yes that our beloved is not around us anymore
[53:27]and that there aren't many who are there who could redraw in
[53:29]these vital moments who could recite the Quran in these vital moments
[53:37]without that it's hurtful for us but there are some greater than
[53:40]us and they only had a handful when it came to their
[53:46]salah tell me it when it came to the janessa as you
[53:48]know for the Shaheed the burial rites are different the Shaheed Hussle
[53:53]does not have to be done for them and they are buried
[53:56]with a very clothing that they die with you find that's in
[53:59]Islamic history there are certain personality is when they died if you
[54:04]think Corona has let Joan Lee of you being in your Janice
[54:09]of your family member I tell you there were only a few
[54:12]at the burial of fatima zahra alaihe salam only a few like
[54:19]salman and abu dharr and the likes of amar and madad alongside
[54:23]imam ali alayhis-salam they weren't many there and she was the greatest
[54:27]lady to have ever lived and walked on the face of the
[54:33]earth likewise Imam Amir al-mumineen alehissalaam only had a fume at his
[54:37]Jenna's because the Huaraz had sworn that if they were to see
[54:44]the Emir then they would make sure that they got his body
[54:47]and bunches who was there in his Jana's a which we honor
[54:53]in a couple of time only a handful but you find that
[54:56]that least there were a handful there for his Jana's one man
[55:01]lay on the plains of Karbala and there was no one there
[55:05]to bury his holy body today we're scampering around for someone to
[55:11]bury the bodies of our beloved ones I ask you say the
[55:18]Shia Imam Husain alayhis-salam who was there to bury his body who
[55:22]was there to place his body softly under the ground and that's
[55:26]why when you hear how he was buried 20 mom's in our
[55:31]body in return to Kara Bela when he returned many I said
[55:37]were thinking of burying him they wanted to but they worried about
[55:40]who would come and see them undertaking that burial how sad Islamic
[55:44]history is that fifty years after a suna Lhasa Allah Allah while
[55:52]he died you find that only fifty years after he died his
[55:56]grandson did not even have anyone to bury his body until the
[55:59]Imam came towards many a said he said to them why haven't
[56:03]you buried all of these bodies what was their reply they said
[56:09]we wanted too much we don't know which body belongs to whom
[56:12]there are some bodies with no arms and there's some bodies with
[56:16]no heads and there are certain bodies with arrows all over them
[56:22]what did the Imam tell them to do nae mam told them
[56:25]go and dig three different holes in the ground they went and
[56:30]dug those three different holes they came back to him they said
[56:33]to him what do you want us to do him he said
[56:37]in the first hole Barry Harby Bible mother in the second all
[56:40]bury the family members in the second hole bury the Companions of
[56:45]imam al-hussein alayhis-salam in the third hole bury the family members of
[56:54]a Barbie dealer they went they buried Habib in mobile that's why
[56:58]in Karbala he has his own grave they will bury the rest
[57:01]of Karbala and then they went to bury the rest of the
[57:05]family of imam al-hussein alayhis-salam then all of a sudden the imam
[57:11]began talk he said now I'm going to bury a body that
[57:18]only I can bury he began the walk towards the holy body
[57:22]Baba for the first time it see the stage of his father's
[57:30]bodies and Shermer was on him when he got closer to the
[57:35]body he sort of finger on the ground what was it one
[57:37]of the men wanted the ring of rasool allah so he chopped
[57:43]the finger of a parabola to get that ring when he got
[57:46]closer its muster up for us to turn the cheek one side
[57:52]when we're burying our beloved I asked you where were those head
[57:58]of imam al-hussein alayhis-salam when imam zain al-abideen go to the body
[58:04]of his father he began to gather the earth of Caravela and
[58:11]began to throw it on himself he gathered the pieces of the
[58:14]father's body then man--why said turn round to him they said to
[58:21]him o man there is a body by the Farraj when we
[58:23]lift one a side of the body the other side of falls
[58:28]on the ground when we live the left side the right falls
[58:34]on the ground he began the walk towards him he begun the
[58:40]war company hashem morning abuzz he went towards the holy body of
[58:53]a man he gathered the pieces of a banana flowers body he
[58:56]went and he gathered all of those pieces yes but there was
[59:00]somebody's that he had to bury later on that's why when they
[59:06]returned to carob allah he put the head of his father Birgit
[59:09]to the body the moments he plays the head back to the
[59:16]body Kurama was given to him by his Lord he had the
[59:19]boys from his father's body what it is further have to say
[59:27]to him the baby the baby place the baby on my chest
