[0:00]Respected scholars, my dear brothers and sisters, [clears throat] Muhammadu.
[0:45][sighs] Foremanch.
[1:20]For the love of the Imam of our time, with the loudest
[1:25]of our voices, first and foremost, my dear brothers and sisters, lovers
[1:38]and the followers of we thank Almighty Allah for gracing us with
[1:50]this moment.
[1:48]to celebrate the birth anniversary of our beloved the awaited savior.
[1:57]I take this moment to express my congratulations to each and every
[2:06]one of you on this beautiful and auspicious occasion.
[2:11]The verse I've just quoted from the Quran no doubt is a
[2:20]known verse if not to all of us but to most of
[2:25]us is surah verse 62.
[2:29]Allah in this beautiful verse asks a rhetorical question.
[2:41]is he responds to the desperate when he calls upon him removes
[2:54]evil and makes you the inheritors of the earth.
[3:00]Now departing from this beautiful verse, the topic we'll discuss tonight inshallah
[3:07]my dear brothers and sisters is the birth of the awaited savior
[3:14]Imiu Sharif and the unity of the Abrahamic faith.
[3:25]Our examination of tonight will be of the following three stages.
[3:34]The first stage will look at our beloved awaited savior or the
[3:40]concept of mechanism in the holy Quran and the traditions of our
[3:45]beloved prophet and second stage of the examination we look at imi
[3:56]or the concept of mehism in both the new and the Old
[4:05]Testament.
[4:04]And then the last stage of our examination of tonight will inshallah
[4:10]focus [snorts] on some of the elements of Mahawia from the Islamic
[4:19]perspective and from the Christianity and Judaism perspective.
[4:24]Aim my dear brothers and sisters of tonight's discussion is to go
[4:31]out inshallah appreciating that indeed the imam of our time is a
[4:38]unifier and that indeed I im mahadi is not only for us
[4:50]as she us.
[4:48]Imam is for the entire mankind.
[4:52]Imam is for the entire humanity.
[4:56]Aim behind tonight's discussion is to go out appreciating that indeed imam
[5:06]is coming for all and not to say for this group and
[5:09]not the other group.
[5:12]First stage of our examination im Sharif in the holy Quran and
[5:21]the traditions of our beloved prophet and a bait.
[5:22]Here what I seek to do briefly is to look at two
[5:29]main verses of the holy Quran and try to appreciate the concept
[5:34]of mehanism in the lens of these two verses.
[5:38]Yes.
[5:38]No doubt there are so many other verses but I just want
[5:44]to focus on these two verses for I and you to appreciate
[5:47]indeed the concept of Mahadawia is deeply rooted within the teachings of
[5:55]the HOLY QURAN.
[5:58]THE FIRST VERSE is the verse I quoted earlier on surah verse
[6:04]62.
[6:04]We all familiar with this beautiful verse.
[6:08]Most especially when someone is ill, we are all often requested to
[6:13]recite five times of this holy verse.
[6:26]One thing comes to mind which is there is a particular dua
[6:36]that Allah accepts and that is dua the dua of the distressed
[6:44]or the desperate.
[6:46]Now the question is who is mut?
[6:53]Who is the desperate?
[6:56]Here there are two opinions that I would like to share with
[7:01]you to appreciate who is mut.
[7:03]The first opinion is what discusses in his taps of man under
[7:15]this beautiful ayah where he says al-m is someone who tries everything
[7:20]to bring about solutions when it comes to his or her challenges
[7:24]in life and then eventually resort to Allah and according to there
[7:31]are two verses in the Holy Quran.
[7:34]When you appreciate these two verses, you will then come to that
[7:37]realization that here refers to someone who resort to Allah.
[7:42]The first verse 60 where Allah says and your Lord says call
[7:55]on me and I'll RESPOND TO YOU.
[7:57]HE SAYS ALLAHALA IS saying that when you call on him, HE
[8:04]WILL RESPOND TO YOU.
[8:06]BUT HE'S NOT TELLING YOU HOW DO YOU CALL HIM?
[8:10]WHICH TYPE OF A CALL YOU SHOULD OFFER FOR HIM to respond
[8:13]to you?
[8:14]He said 62 respond to this.
[8:20]HE SAID THE DUA THAT ALLAH ANSWERS IS.
[8:25]So that's one opinion.
[8:27]SECOND OPINION IS the most celebrated opinion THAT THE DESPERATE IN THIS
[8:39]AYAH IS NOT SOMEONE who resort to Allah but rather refers to
[8:50]and we have two traditions here.
[8:53]THE FIRST tradition is Muhammad Muslim companion of Imam Bakr narrates from
[9:02]our beloved imbak that imbak mentioned in this verse refers to IN
[9:13]THE SENSE THAT WHEN HE REAPPEARS HE WILL OFFER TWO next to
[9:21]Mam.
[9:22]One narration says between and I THEREAFTER HE WILL RAISE HIS HAND
[9:28]and make dua that dua IS DUA and Allah will answer to
[9:37]that call and that dua.
[9:38]So per this tradition of imbak refers to who?
[9:46]The im of OUR TIME.
[9:48]SECOND TRADITION FROM from that refers to who?
[10:00]Our beloved the awaited savior.
[10:01]Narration tells us from imam WHEN HE REAPPEARS HE WILL OFFER TO
[10:10]NEXT TO THEREAFTER HE WILL CALL out and he WILL MAKE A
[10:19]DUA and immediately THE DUA WILL BE ANSWERED BY ALLAH AND HIS
[10:24]dua is dua mean what the im of our time is the
[10:31]one The ayah refers to as in other WORDS WHENEVER I RECITE
[10:41]THIS AYAH I am doing it on behalf of who?
[10:44]The im of my time.
[10:45]MOREOVER, IF YOU GO FURTHER looking at the ayah 62 towards the
[10:53]end, Allah says, "And he makes you the inheritors of the earth."
[11:02]Here, please pay attention to this my dear brothers and sisters.
[11:07]When you go to Quran, SOMETIMES YOU'LL come across A VERSE WHERE
[11:11]ALLAH use but SOMETIMES ALLAH WILL NOT say he will use the
[11:23]viceant on the earth or the viceant of the earth as a
[11:31]direct translation.
[11:29]What's the difference between these two?
[11:36]For example, Allah says and the ayah in question simply MEANS WHAT?
[11:53]ANYONE WHO MAKES GOOD use of this earth the dictator of Allah
[11:57]that person becomes But without fear, no refers to someone whom Allah
[12:09]made this earth subservient to him.
[12:14]SO SCHOLARS WHEN THEY ANALYZE IT THEY said and he MAKES YOU
[12:23]THE INHERITTOR OF THE EARTH.
[12:23]HERE IS referring to the im of our time and they're linking
[12:31]with the ayah which I'm sure you all know.
[12:38]SO THE SECOND PART OF THE AYAH WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS
[12:43]context is still again refers to the im of our time.
[12:46]So that is one.
[12:48]The next ayah BEFORE WE LOOK AT the new and the old
[12:54]testament is again another known ayah if not to all of us
[12:57]but to most of us here verse 86 what remains of Allah
[13:10]is better for you if you would be believers.
[13:14]Now again there ARE TWO OPINIONS AS TO What is the remains
[13:23]of Allah?
[13:22]What is it?
[13:25]You go to he discusses this.
[13:30]HE SAID HE SIMPLY means what profit one makes out of his
[13:34]or her own business.
[13:35]You go to work, you invest, you make profit.
[13:39]According to it refers to and this reason is that if you
[13:46]look at verse before this verse meaning verse 85 of you prophet
[13:51]was talking to his people regarding transactions and business so this verse
[13:57]falls within that context and so it refers to the prophet.
[14:02]No, we have other traditions from Imik from Zah that a man
[14:16]came to im and he SAID TO HIM, "OH MY BELOVED IM,
[14:20]YOU ALWAYS TALK TO US ABOUT HOW DO WE SEND SALAMS OR
[14:27]how do we salute the do we salute him by Do we
[14:36]say or is there any other way we say to the Ali
[14:44]MUHAMMAD in a known tradition responded to them saying the title refers
[14:53]to one and only Ali Ab but when IT COMES TO HOW
[15:00]YOU SEND YOUR SALUTATIONS to the we should say.
[15:10]Then immediately quoted this ayah.
[15:23]And even if YOU LOOK AT THE LAST PART OF THE AYAH
[15:26]inum meaning profit whether a believer or not believer profit from every
[15:32]business is good.
[15:34]SO WHY WOULD ALLAH SAYS PROFIT IN WHAT MEANING?
[15:39]Definitely Allah is talking of something way higher than the profit we
[15:45]make in our businesses.
[15:47]So another ayah to go away and reflect on is this.
[15:54]So this is the first stage of the examination.
[15:57]Second stage of the examination in the spirit of the topic of
[16:03]discussion.
[16:02]Imam Mahadi in the unity of the Abrahamic or Abrahamic faith.
[16:13]Here I seek your indulgence and permission to go to the new
[16:23]and the old testament to look at the concepts of mechanism.
[16:28]Thereafter I andu will appreciate that the imam of our time is
[16:36]indeed a unifier.
[16:37]It's not just for Shia.
[16:40]is not just for Muslims.
[16:43]It's a source of hope for all and sunundry.
[16:47]THE WAY HIS BELOVED GRANDFATHER WAS AL CURRENTLY alamin is the imam
[16:57]of our TIME AND WHY I FIND THIS VERY INTERESTING BECAUSE WHEN
[17:01]I did my masters this was my dissertation I im mahadi in
[17:09]different civilizations it's not just in Islam it's not just in Judaism
[17:17]it's not in Christianity is everywhere.
[17:22]And so I seek your indulgence for me to quote few verses
[17:27]from the Old Testament and then we look at few verses from
[17:34]the New Testament.
[17:33]thereafter will come up with a resolve to say you know what
[17:39]I and you do not have any excuse but to go out
[17:41]there and take Imm Zaman as central to the unity of mankind.
[17:48]So first is to look at the Old Testament.
[17:51]As I said please pay attention to this.
[17:55]There are so many verses in the Old Testament discussing the end
[18:03]of the time and what will happen during the end of the
[18:10]time.
[18:08]The first one and I quote, we read the following in the
[18:15]prophecy of Habacook, chapter one verse 6.
[18:23]and I quote, "For behold, I will raise up the Caladians, a
[18:33]better and swift nation, marching upon breath of the earth, to possesses
[18:41]the dwelling places that are not their own.
[18:53]will make them inherit.
[18:56]If you look at this quote from the Old Testament, Caladians are
[19:02]going to be made to possess this land.
[19:05]In Psalm of David, we read and I quote, "Brothers and sisters,
[19:12]for the wicked shall be cut off, but those who wait for
[19:16]the Lord shall possess his land." That's what Quran says and THAT'S
[19:27]WHAT THE TRADITIONS OF OUR BELOVED PROPHET SAY.
[19:32]IN THEY WILL INHERIT.
[19:36]WHO WILL INHERIT?
[19:39]THE GOOD ONES HERE IN THE PSALM OF DAVID WE read for
[19:42]the Lord shall possesses the land.
[19:45]Then it continues yet a little while and the wicked will be
[19:54]no more.
[19:52]Though you look well at his place, he will not be there.
[20:01]wicked will not be there.
[20:04]We always get taught by our great scholars when it comes to
[20:09]invar to be good person to be a person of unbelievable consciousness
[20:16]to be a person of goodl to be a person who lives
[20:22]his mark when it comes his and this is what the old
[20:24]testament is telling us but his will in the law of the
[20:30]lord and on his law he shall mediate day and night.
[20:35]Meaning this person when he comes, he's going to lead.
[20:40]He's going to govern.
[20:40]He's going to mediate day AND NIGHT CUZ GOD ALMIGHTY is going
[20:47]to make him the inheritor of the land.
[20:49]Let me read the last one from the Old Testament, then we'll
[20:53]move forward.
[20:53]We also read from the Psalm of David.
[20:58]My dear brothers and sisters, for those blessed by the Lord shall
[21:06]possesses the land, but those cursed shall be cut off.
[21:10]It's all about linking with the Lord and doing what the Lord
[21:18]wants and you will rejoice towards the end.
[21:19]Now let's go to the New Testament and read few things from
[21:26]the New Testament which is also of great importance.
[21:29]In the New Testament it SAYS WHEN THE SON of man comes
[21:37]in his glory and all the angels with him then he will
[21:41]sit on the throne.
[21:44]before him will be gathered all the nations and he will separate
[21:48]them one from another as a shepherd separate the sheep from the
[21:53]goats.
[21:57]It's referring to it's referring to the coming of Imi.
[22:08]And the last one from the New Testament says, "Thus you to
[22:15]be prepared for the son of man will come at a time
[22:20]you do not expect.
[22:23]IMAM WILL SUDDENLY APPEAR.
[22:26]WE HAVE IN OUR OWN TRADITIONS and again here in the Bible
[22:29]he said that he WILL COME AT A TIME you do not
[22:34]expect and we also read but father no one knows of that
[22:41]day and hour not the angels and not even the son.
[22:43]So stay alert and supplicate because you do not know when the
[22:51]time will arrive.
[22:51]So here we have in both the new and the old testament
[22:58]discussing the coming of our beloved Imam.
[23:02]And that indeed my dear brothers and sisters highlight unity when it
[23:11]comes to our belief in the coming of Imam Mahadi and that
[23:17]of the people of the book.
[23:18]NOW LAST STAGE of the examination the elements of Mahadawya in both
[23:26]Quran the sunnah of the prophet and then the new and the
[23:35]old testament.
[23:34]THE FIRST ELEMENT OF MAHADAWIA my dear brothers and sisters from the
[23:41]Islamic perspective is what is hope.
[23:43]Believing in mahadawia is believing in hope.
[23:52]Allah without this belief many of us would have lost hope long
[23:59]time.
[23:58]We remain hopeful BECAUSE WE KNOW VERY WELL SOONER OR LATER REGARDLESS
[24:06]OF how long it takes something good is going to happen.
[24:12]And if you look at Quran, Quran invites us not to lose
[24:20]hope is to remain hopeful.
[24:21]Look at verse 5 and six.
[24:29]Indeed, with difficulties comes easiness and EASINESS IS ALWAYS WITH difficulty and
[24:38]the other way around.
[24:39]Again there's a very beautiful ayah of the holy Quran verse 53
[24:46]Allah says say to my servant Allah instructing our beloved prophet who
[24:58]have wronged themselves on earth DO NOT DESPAIR FROM THE MERCY of
[25:03]Allah.
[25:04]SO THE CONCEPT OF MAHADAWIA ON A FIRST level is about hope.
[25:10]We cannot lose hope UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.
[25:14]REGARDLESS OF MY SITUATION, REGARDLESS OF what is going what is happening
[25:20]in the world, the concept of mahadawia should inspire me to remain
[25:28]hopeful.
[25:28]THAT'S FIRST ELEMENT.
[25:30]SECOND ELEMENT OF THE CONCEPT OF MAHADAWA is what we all know
[25:36]is justice.
[25:37]That image is all about fairness, is all about justice.
[25:47]AND THERE ARE SEVERAL VERSES OF THE HOLY QURAN INVITING US TO
[25:54]BEGIN ADMINISTERING JUSTICE WAY BEFORE EVEN THE COMING of our beloved Imm.
[26:03]One ayah, my dear brothers and sisters, Allah makes it crystal clear
[26:11]that justice is the core objective of the coming of the prophet
[26:15]and the messengers of Allah.
[26:25]Indeed, we sent our messengers with the book and THE BALANCE.
[26:34]WHY?
[26:35]So that people stand for justice.
[26:38]So that people administer justice.
[26:39]So I im what is he coming to do?
[26:46]is coming to administer justice.
[26:47]So never think there will be no justice.
[26:53]We believe in the coming of our beloved Imm because we believe
[26:57]in justice.
[26:58]AND THEN THE LAST BUT CERTAINLY not the least element of Mahadawia,
[27:06]a struggle against oppression in whatever way or shape.
[27:13]Imam is not going to come if I and you don't play
[27:18]our part when it comes to struggle against oppression.
[27:21]LIKEWISE, WHEN YOU GO TO BIBLE, be it the Old or the
[27:29]New Testament, you'll come across the concept of hope, the concept of
[27:36]justice, AND THE CONCEPT OF STRUGGLE against any form of oppression.
[27:42]TO HIGHLIGHT THAT ABRAHAMIC FAITH OR ABRAHAMIC faith as you may say
[27:49]we share a lot of things in common my dear brothers and
[27:57]sisters WHAT WE SHARE IN COMMON are more than what do us
[28:02]apart and if I seek your indulgence we go to Bible again
[28:06]and look at how Bible talks about hope in both New and
[28:14]Old Testament AND HOW BIBLE TALKS ABOUT JUSTICE in both New and
[28:18]Old Testament to appreciate that indeed we share a lot in common.
[28:22]One look at Old Testament from the Judaism perspective when it comes
[28:29]to hope.
[28:29]Deuteronomy 16 verse 20 says justice justice shall you pursue JUSTICE JUSTICE
[28:46]shall you pursue that's what Islam is saying let people rise for
[28:55]justice and fairness and we read that in the old testament Again,
[29:00]my dear brother, if you look at Deuteronomy AGAIN, HE SAYS, "DO
[29:07]justice and love mercy." We're not saying different things.
[29:13]GO DO JUSTICE.
[29:15]GO HAVE MERCY.
[29:17]DON'T GIVE JUSTICE A MISS.
[29:20]IF YOU LOOK AT EXODUS 23:6, it says, "Do not deny justice."
[29:28]Don't deny justice.
[29:31]Whether it is for you or it is against you, do not
[29:39]deny it.
[29:39]Now, let's come to Christianity in the New Testament.
[29:43]One verse we look at it.
[29:48]Matthew 5:6.
[29:47]It says, "Hunger and thirst for righteousness." DISCUSSES JUSTICE.
[29:55]IT'S ALL about righteousness.
[29:59]AND YOU HAVE TO STRIVE IN WHATEVER WAY POSSIBLE FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
[30:04]NOW LOOK AT THE CONCEPT OF hope in both New and the
[30:11]Old Testaments.
[30:13]In the oldest of Jeremiah 29:11, a future and a hope that's
[30:20]what he says a future and a hope.
[30:23]MEANWH IS THE FUTURE AND THAT IS WHERE THE HOPE IS.
[30:30]HOPE FOR THAT HOPE FOR HIS COMING.
[30:33]Now if you look at Romans 8:4 in the New Testament, it
[30:38]says in hope we were saved.
[30:43]So the concept of hope is deeply entrenched in these two holy
[30:51]books.
[30:52]And lastly, brothers and sisters, struggle against oppression.
[30:55]Both new and the old testament discuss this also.
[30:59]For example, if you look at Old Testament in Exodus 3 and
[31:05]7, he says, "I have seen the affliction of my people." He's
[31:10]talking about what?
[31:10]Struggle against oppression, against injustice.
[31:15]And in the New Testament, Luke 4:18, FREEDOM FOR THE OPPRESSED.
[31:21]WHY ALL THIS BROTHERS and sisters is to I share a lot
[31:30]in common.
[31:30]But there are some out there who are trying to sew the
[31:37]seed of divisions amongst us.
[31:39]Who?
[31:42]The Muslims and the people of the book.
[31:47]Now it's time to conclude with call to action.
[31:53]After all this, what do I do?
[31:57]As a she, as a lover, and the follower of the 12th
[32:07]Imam who awaits the reappearance who realizes that indeed when it comes
[32:14]to believing in the coming of the imam, I am not alone.
[32:19]Others also share this with us.
[32:21]I'm going to share some few practical tips brothers and sisters and
[32:26]let us all try as much as we can to take this
[32:32]as a reminder.
[32:32]If you have implemented it before, go out there enhance these tips.
[32:39]Number one is to invite the people of the book to our
[32:47]places of worship.
[32:50]I'm trying to highlight on the importance of interfaith programs or interfaith
[33:02]dialogue.
[33:01]Invite them.
[33:04]Show them around.
[33:06]I'm sure you've done it before, but we need it even more
[33:11]in this day and age.
[33:12]Explain to them each and every symbol of worships that we have
[33:19]within our centers.
[33:19]within our mosques.
[33:22]Don't ever think most of them know what we do.
[33:29]Some have no clue.
[33:32]They only listen to media and other stuff.
[33:36]So inviting them to your places of worship is OF GREAT IMPORTANCE.
[33:40]YOU as an individual, universities, workplaces, you've got alab that you work
[33:49]with, your colleagues at work.
[33:51]Your duty is not to make them Muslims, but to expose them
[33:57]to the beautiful message of Islam and to the beautiful message of
[34:02]Muslim.
[34:03]So that is number one.
[34:06]Invite them, talk to them.
[34:07]Sh Ramadan is coming.
[34:09]Expose them to the beauty of Shah Ramadan.
[34:12]The holy month of Muharam is coming.
[34:14]Expose them to the beauty of the holy month of Ramadan.
[34:16]That's one.
[34:19]Second practical tip.
[34:22]Visit their places of worship.
[34:23]Visit them.
[34:26]Go visit them when they open their doors for you.
[34:33]Get to know how they do things.
[34:37]understand some of their symbols of worship.
[34:43]Number three, which is of great importance because today when people do
[34:48]interfaith, they only go and massage each other.
[34:55]But number three, what is important is what?
[34:56]Explain to them what you believe and practice with the aim of
[35:04]making them aware of who you are.
[35:07]And likewise learn from them what they practice with the aim of
[35:17]trying to understand what they do is of great importance.
[35:20]But if you look at Quran, Quran invite us to invite the
[35:27]people of the book to that common word.
[35:30]And this common word brings all of us together.
[35:35]that is God is one and we do not associate anyone with
[35:38]Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[35:40]You know we had interfaith discussion back home last year when they
[35:46]came to our mosque I'm talking of the Christians and one of
[35:52]our shes I was sitting there he explained to them the concept
[35:58]of Mahawya and he said to them you believe in the coming
[36:02]back of Jesus and we believe Mahadi will reappear and we do
[36:10]not believe Jesus is dead.
[36:14]We believe Jesus and Mahi are both in occultation.
[36:17]THEY WILL ALL REAPPEAR.

[36:25]leadership OF MAI.
[36:26]THEY WERE SURPRISED AND THEY WERE SHOCKED.
[36:30]THEY SAID, "WE DIDN'T KNOW SOMETHING LIKE this is there in Islam."
[36:34]So therefore, brothers and sisters, let's engage them.
[36:38]The world we live in is a different world.
[36:42]It requires a lot of engagement.
[36:43]It requires a lot of interfaith dialogue.
[36:47]It requires a lot of discussion.
[36:50]And once we do that, inshallah we'll be able to bring about
[36:53]harmony and peaceful coexistence.
[36:58]We pray to Allah to expedite the reappearance of the im of
[37:04]our time.
[37:04]Alhamdulillah.
