[1:13]at various universities including Park University Northern State University eastern New Mexico

[1:18]University the University of Virginia and Ivy Tech where he is currently

[4:26]holy household islam is a tree the existence of which is undeniable

[4:31]its seed was sown by the creator its roots are the Quran

[4:35]the Syrah and the Sunnah its trunk is mainstream traditional Islam it's

[4:43]beautiful branches represent its multifarious interpretations schools of jurisprudence philosophy theology and

[4:53]spirituality a scientist or a scholar will study the roots study the

[5:03]trunk study the bark study the buds and study the leaves in

[5:07]order to better understand this magnificent living organism imagine a man or

[5:14]a woman who hates the tree who despises the tree who loathes

[5:20]the tree whose hearts ease with rage smolders with fury and boils

[5:25]with anger against the tree a person who hates this glorious and

[5:31]awe-inspiring creation from root to treetop a person who is incensed at

[5:36]the trees very existence a person who dreams of saws chainsaws and

[5:45]paper mills on the one hand you have the scholar who is

[5:49]a tree hugger he wants to understand the tree he cares for

[5:57]the tree he nurtures the tree he fertilizes and prunes the tree

[6:02]he wants the tree to be healthy to grow strong and to

[6:08]live long on the other hand you have the scholar four dollars

[6:13]the intellectual intelligent intelligence agents the betrayer the backstabber the double-crosser the

[6:22]renegade and the fifth columnist who is a tree hater he or

[6:27]she feigns to specialize in the tree however she or he is

[6:34]hell-bent on destroying the tree and how does one destroy the tree

[6:39]by destroying its roots the only way we will understand the tree

[6:44]is by uprooting the tree the only way we will understand the

[6:49]tree is by cutting down the tree chopping it into logs sighing

[6:52]it into wood and turning it into toilet paper shame on those

[7:01]who would shred a sequoia rest assured have no doubt these people

[7:07]are not arborists they are arsonists out to set the whole fire

[8:39]the true teacher is the one who can distill complicated matters and

[8:45]make the essence understandable to anyone and everyone so remember the story

[8:51]of the tree the tree lover and the tree hater the one

[8:59]who is hell-bent on destroying its roots as scholars of Islam whether

[9:05]we are academics clerics or both we have an obligation a divine

[9:11]duty to protect and defend Islam at all times and in all

[9:15]places using the best of means possible there are plenty of Muslim

[9:25]professors who specialize in Islamic studies but who approach Islam according to

[9:32]Western methodology for too many operate on the basis of Western interpretations

[9:37]or should I say miss interpretations of Islam this poses a problem

[9:44]on the other hand we have plenty of Muslim clerics bellomo who

[9:49]are only familiar with the traditional Eastern approach to Islamic studies and

[9:55]who are not necessarily current with the developments both positive and negative

[10:02]that have taken place in Western scholarship this also poses a problem

[10:08]what we need is a convergence between both approaches we cannot and

[10:14]must not allow non-muslim orientalist and their Muslim agents to dominate the

[10:20]discourse we must engage stern academia from within and from without we

[10:27]must be at the forefront of an intellectual jihad against infidel intellectuals

[10:33]this is not to say that all Western scholars of Islam or

[10:41]enemies of Islam there are some who are friends and sympathizers there

[10:44]are some who are seriously enamored with the subject however there are

[10:51]others who are violently hostile to Islam and who have agendas agendas

[10:56]we need to expose and agendas we need to oppose can we

[11:07]truly know Muhammad yes absolutely beyond a shadow of a doubt we

[11:11]can know him we do know him and we can get to

[11:15]know him more and in even greater depth with every passing day

[11:18]how can we know Muhammad through the Quran although the Quran is

[11:23]not a biography of the messenger of allah muhammad is in the

[11:30]Quran and the Quran is in Muhammad if the messenger of allah

[11:34]was the quran walking and the quran talking then we can know

[11:41]him understand him and appreciate him by means of the Quran it

[11:46]may not be much of an outer biography but it is the

[11:52]most beautiful and sublime inner biography the Quran descended upon Muhammad permeated

[11:57]Muhammad and saturated Muhammad the Quran therefore emanated from Muhammad in all

[12:04]of its radiant and resplendent glory you do not know a person

[12:08]simply on the basis of their date of birth and death physical

[12:16]description and minor and major life events how many times have we

[12:19]seen a wife remark that after 50 years of marriage she didn't

[12:22]know what type of a person her husband truly was there are

[12:27]people who to outward appearances are beautiful charming intelligent kind and loving

[12:32]between a reality are ugly rude idiotic selfish and cruel there are

[12:40]people with beautiful outside but with hideous insides this reminds me of

[12:46]a hadith from our Blessed imam ja'far asada khali salam once when

[12:54]he was performing the pilgrimage his companion exclaimed what a great number

[13:03]of pilgrims the Imam responded that the noise was greater than the

[13:07]number of true pilgrims he then touched the eyes of his companions

[13:13]and said see for yourself his companion then saw that there were

[13:17]few human beings among the multitude the rest were beasts donkeys pigs

[13:22]and dogs revealing their true inner selves in the case of Muhammad

[13:27]peace and blessings be upon him in his holy household we have

[13:34]a beautiful outside and a beautiful inside The Messenger of Allah was

[13:39]the recipient of Revelation consequently the Holy Quran is a reflection of

[13:45]the prophets heart and soul and a reflection of his actions wallahi

[13:49]if all we had was the Quran in all our books of

[13:55]Hadees syrah Teddy were to vaporize all our books of prophetic traditions

[13:59]biography and history went up in smoke we would still know Muhammad

[14:04]understand Muhammad love Muhammad and emulate Muhammad peace and blessings be upon

[14:10]him and his holy household Sunnah wat and yes as I have

[14:21]been accused by right-wing fascist anti-islam ID and anti-muslim mites I am

[14:29]completely and totally enamored with Mohammed I am madly in love with

[15:22]donkeys laden with books if we can know the Prophet peace and

[15:31]blessings be upon him by means of the Quran let me be

[15:33]precise by means of the true traditional interpretation of the Holy Quran

[15:41]we can also know him by means of the authentic sunnah i

[15:45]repeat myself by means of the authentic suna although the genuine nature

[15:51]of the Quran is not generally subject to dispute in many prominent

[15:56]orientalists acknowledge its prophetic provenance the same cannot be said of the

[16:02]hadith literature as a whole if the Quran should be understood according

[16:09]to its traditional interpretation the study of hadith must also be guided

[16:14]by scholarship and reason if it agrees with the Quran and makes

[16:18]logical sense you can accept it however if it contradicts the Quran

[16:23]or authentic narrations makes no logical sense or attributes anything improper to

[16:29]the Prophet it must be rejected categorically we are not people of

[16:35]blind faith we are people of critical thinking this is not to

[16:41]say that there are no problems with our sources there are plenty

[16:47]of problems the problems being presented by professional polemicists are not new

[16:53]they have not presented anything novel they are bringing up issues that

[16:59]Muslim scholars have been dealing with for 1400 years by and large

[17:03]there are questions that have already been answered I have studied the

[19:53]you should stick to the city park limit yourselves to authenticated traditions

[19:57]transmitted by trustworthy sources and read the covenants of the Prophet Muhammad

[20:05]with the crew and read the covenants that the Prophet Muhammad peace

[20:14]and blessings be upon him concluded with the monks of the Sinai

[20:17]the Christians of Naja on Egypt 11 Syria Armenia Persia in the

[20:23]world the covenants he concluded with the Jews of Medina the Yemen

[20:26]in northern Arabia as well as the covenants he signed with the

[20:29]Zoroastrian community these documents provide a blueprint for the umma they provide

[20:38]the lenses through which we can see the global vision of Islam

[20:41]they are primary documents that allow us to truly know Muhammad alayhi

[23:19]hadith in books of theology in books of commentary two types of

[23:27]Islam one that is beautiful just an edifying and the other that

[23:31]is hideous unjust and dehumanizing we have an Islam that gives rights

[23:35]and an Islam that deprives people of rights we have an Islam

[23:41]that honors women and an Islam that degrades and debases women we

[23:45]have an Islam that is tolerant and an Islam that is intolerant

[23:50]we have an Islam that is merciful and in Islam that is

[23:55]devoid of mercy we have an Islam of life and an Islam

[24:01]of death and destruction so long as we have freedom of expression

[24:06]we must voice our concerns we must reject and repudiate the Islam

[24:12]of yazid and reaffirm and reassert the Islam of Hussain salawats and

[24:23]when I say so I speak not in terms of Sunnis and

[24:29]Shias I seek not to divide I seek to unite to unite

[24:34]all Muslims around the personality of the Prophet peace and blessings be

[24:39]upon him to bring them back to Muhammadan Islam to the Islam

[24:43]that was practice prior to the fitna to original is land the

[24:50]one and only Islam together Sunnis Shiites and Sufi must join forces

[24:56]to reclaim the narrative so that we and the world can all

[25:00]truly know and remember the Prophet Muhammad peace and blessings be upon
