[0:02][Music] I begin in the name of the almighty God the compassionate
[0:22]the merciful the one who has created everything in utmost Perfection and
[0:29]May the peace and blessings of the almighty God be upon his
[0:34]pure and beloved messenger the peak of his creation the symbol of
[0:40]humanity the holy prophet Muhammad s and his Immaculate progeny of the
[0:54]peace be upon them especially the leader of our time the awaited
[1:00]Savior Al IM may God hasten his reappearance and make us all
[1:08]amongst his sincere and dedicated servants Allah subhah waala states in the
[1:13]Holy Quran and the satisfaction of God is greater illuminate your hearts
[1:32]and Minds with a very loud salawat indeed the human being if
[1:44]not the greatest of God's creations is one of the most interesting
[1:49]and greatest of God's creations when we examine the complexity of the
[1:56]human being when we examine the complexity of our emotions of our
[2:02]feelings no evolutionary theory that attempts to exclude God out of the
[2:10]picture can explain to you the origin of these feelings and emotions
[2:17]the depth of these feelings and emotions the complexity of these feelings
[2:25]and emotions indeed the human being is nothing short of a miracle
[2:31]one of the emotions and feelings that we all experience some of
[2:37]us every once in a while some of us we experience them
[2:44]on a daily basis is the feeling of boredom the feeling of
[2:50]being bored every once in a while we experience this feeling for
[2:55]some of us it's constant it's a permanent feature of Our Lives
[3:00]and this evening let us examine the topic of boredom by shedding
[3:07]light on these following points number one what is boredom number two
[3:17]what causes it why does this feeling visit us every once in
[3:26]a while number three what are the dangers and harms of boredom
[3:31]number four what are some solutions what can we do to protect
[3:38]ourselves from being bogged down by boredom number five when it comes
[3:45]to our ritual acts of worship such as praying such as Salat
[3:51]what can we do to avoid these acts boring us because for
[3:58]many people these repetitive Acts they get boring what can we do
[4:05]to protect ourselves from boredom in Acts of worship and finally and
[4:10]this is an interesting one what about on the day of Judge
[4:14]judgment and Paradise as great as it will be for the Believers
[4:18]there but since it's going to be Eternal infinite there is no
[4:26]ending to it won't we get bored there as good as it
[4:28]will be there W they human being be bored in Paradise on
[4:33]the day of judgment let's examine these points so what is boredom
[4:38]this state of feeling bored what exactly is it some describe it
[4:46]as a plague on life it plagues your life it ruins your
[4:50]life boredom is when you have this need for something exciting to
[4:59]happen something new to happen the urge to do something boredom is
[5:06]when you want some more drama around you something just to go
[5:10]on around you boredom is also defined as the inability to accept
[5:19]life around you for what it is you no longer see the
[5:24]beauty of this life when you're bored you cannot accept your current
[5:29]state date when you're bored you lose that contentment everything's perfect around
[5:36]you the creation of Allah is perfect around you but you simply
[5:41]fail to see it you simply fail to accept it this feeling
[5:47]of not accepting your life and the world around you not being
[5:54]content not finding exciting for you this is called boredom it's lack
[6:02]of contentment lack of acceptance and many people they experience these feelings
[6:10]this is actually a normal part of our daily lives that at
[6:16]some points we do experiences this is very common boredom is also
[6:23]defined you know as this very annoying feeling this annoying phenomenon which
[6:29]sets in when you're just about to relax you're just about to
[6:34]relax everything around you seems to be going well there is no
[6:41]specific problem that's bugging you you sit there you're about to chill
[6:44]you're about to relax you feel bored you don't know what to
[6:49]do with yourself you don't know what to do with your life
[6:53]boredom is found everywhere it can strike you at home at work
[6:59]at school everywhere there was a study done in 2007 amongst school
[7:06]children high school children in 26 US states when they interviewed them
[7:14]they realized that 2third of these high school students they get bored
[7:19]in class every single day it's something that strikes us everywhere and
[7:26]it can come at any time any time of during the day
[7:32]during the night it can come at any age youngsters Elders men
[7:36]women it does not discriminate so this is what boredom is now
[7:42]what is the cause of boredom why do people get bored what
[7:48]is it with this feeling what's it triggered by now if we
[7:53]look at boredom from a scientific perspective you know from a neurological
[7:59]iCal perspective boredom occurs when dopamine levels go down in the brain
[8:07]you know dopamine that reward chemical in the brain when you get
[8:12]bored or people who are prone to always getting bored they actually
[8:16]have lower levels of dopamine it's these lower levels of dopamine that
[8:24]neurologically scientifically makes them bored gives them this feeling that they're not
[8:30]satisfied they're just not happy with what they have with what's going
[8:36]on around them they're not happy with time that's going by this
[8:41]is now from a scientific perspective but what does it what is
[8:46]it that causes boredom when we examine our life what are the
[8:52]factors that lead to human beings going into this state of feeling
[8:57]bored let us take a quick look at some of these factors
[9:03]and some of these causes so we can understand this feeling better
[9:08]and so we can tackle it better the first reason is that
[9:14]in our brain sometimes there's too much activity some people have too
[9:20]much activity in their brain and they simply don't know how to
[9:24]release that energy your brain is in active mode overactive mode Overdrive
[9:30]and you're looking for something to keep up with this increased activity
[9:38]in your brain but you simply can't find it this increased activity
[9:41]in the brain causes you to lose focus you can't concentrate it
[9:51]distracts you because there's too much activity going on in your brain
[9:55]and you couldn't find something to satisfy that extra energy to channel
[10:01]into that extra energy you start getting distracted you cannot concentrate and
[10:08]you are aware that you cannot concentrate now sometimes you can't concentrate
[10:14]but you're not aware of that that's not really a feeling of
[10:17]boredom boredom is when you cannot concentrate and you're aware of yourself
[10:23]not being able to concentrate that's the worst feeling when you know
[10:28]that you're distracted and you're bored and you're not able to concentrate
[10:34]so one factor that leads to boredom is this increased activity in
[10:40]the brain number two we see that we have two types of
[10:46]people and this is very interesting one type of people they are
[10:50]bored obviously because they don't see what's going on around them even
[10:57]with this busy life hect to Clive with all that's going on
[11:03]around the world these people nothing's just satisfying them not too much
[11:08]is going gone for them so life gets boring now on the
[11:11]other hand you have a second type of people because there is
[11:17]so much going on in the world they actually experience this feeling
[11:23]of fear they're afraid of all the events of all the things
[11:29]that are going on around the world and in their society because
[11:33]of this fear they retreat they shut down they're no longer able
[11:39]to operate and function properly because of that they experience this feeling
[11:44]of boredom they don't know what to do everything around them is
[11:49]just overwhelming them it's just too much for them and so this
[11:54]leads to a state of boredom this was the second the third
[11:58]cause that the third factor that leads to boredom is our technology
[12:04]our modern tech technology makes you bored as much as it entertains
[12:10]you you know our phones our gadgets our tablets we're used to
[12:19]we're addicted to them we're addicted to having them constantly stimulate us
[12:25]get that instant gratification everything is at the tips of your fingers
[12:30]when you are used to that you quickly get bored because after
[12:37]a while you see that nothing stimulating you our technology has played
[12:44]a significant role in US experiencing the feeling of boredom we're constantly
[12:50]bombarded with all this technology there's always something to do with your
[12:55]Gadget with your tablet and this stimulates you in the beginning but
[12:58]then after a while for many many people you're no longer stimulated
[13:03]everything seems lame nothing's really stimulating you and that causes a feeling
[13:10]of boredom that's number three number four and this is extremely important
[13:14]and This concerns our youth more than others a fourth cause of
[13:22]boredom is having too much time when there's too much time on
[13:28]your hands you're going to get bored you see our ancestors back
[13:34]then before the Industrial Revolution people didn't really get bored with life
[13:41]why they did not have free time to spare they had to
[13:43]work all day long from morning till night just to make a
[13:49]living just to bring food and put it on the table these
[13:52]days we've got too much free time look at our youth out
[13:57]of the 24 hours a day that they have how much of
[13:59]it are they using how much are they using Okay 6 7
[14:07]8 hours sleeping several hours a day going to class studying eating
[14:11]doing some activities doing their assignments what about the 8 6 5
[14:19]hours That Remains What happens you see that most of our youth
[14:23]they've simply got too much time on their hands they're not using
[14:26]their time properly they get bored and this is a problem that's
[14:35]why one important measure one important way to fight boredom is to
[14:41]keep yourself busy from morning till night yes exhaust yourself the more
[14:48]you exhaust yourself believe me and you can trust me on this
[14:51]one the more not only productive your life will become but the
[14:55]less bored you will be the more you will enjoy your life
[15:00]you the more you will taste the beauty of life don't let
[15:05]those hours go to waste brothers and sisters Allah subhana tala has
[15:09]given these moments he's given us these seconds and minutes as Treasures
[15:15]for us and these Treasures will never ever come back to us
[15:23]never every moment that's gone is gone for good if you spend
[15:27]a trillion dollars you cannot gain that hour back yes you can
[15:33]have another hour but that hour that you wasted you can never
[15:38]ever reclaim it so we see that these are some causes of
[15:43]boredom why human beings tend to feel bored in their lives there
[15:51]are several causes as well but these are the primary causes now
[15:55]let's talk about the dangers and harms of boredom now you could
[16:03]think so what what's the big deal if you get bored no
[16:05]big deal the world's not going to end if we get bored
[16:10]every once in a while if you get bored just you know
[16:12]grab some popcorn and watch a movie it's not the end of
[16:19]the world well in reality it's much more complicated than that it's
[16:22]much more serious than that yes for some people or for many
[16:26]people boredom is not an issue especially for people who are productive
[16:31]they're working they have a successful life every once in a while
[16:37]we all get bored that's natural that's normal but for many people
[16:41]for a good percentage of the population boredom is actually becoming a
[16:49]permanent feature of their life and it comes with many risks it
[16:55]comes with many dangers it comes with many harms let's go through
[16:59]some of of these harms number one it's a painful feeling it's
[17:04]a frustrating feeling people who are bored and they're constantly bored with
[17:09]their lives they don't know what to do nothing is fulfilling them
[17:17]nothing satisfying to them they're agitated people they quickly get angry they
[17:21]quickly get frustrated and this leads to a number of problems such
[17:29]as over eating do you know that one of the leading causes
[17:34]of overeating is boredom not knowing what to do you're just bored
[17:38]so how do you satisfy yourself how do you distract yourself how
[17:44]do you keep yourself busy you keep overeating binge eating and that's
[17:49]why we see there's so much obesity in our society one primary
[17:52]reason is not just unhealthy Foods yes obviously it's unhealthy Foods however
[17:59]at the same time it's the feeling of getting bored you know
[18:04]how sometimes when you're bored and you don't know what to do
[18:07]you go and you open your fridge and you keep opening it
[18:11]again and again and again as if something's amazing going to happen
[18:15]in the fridge right people get bored or sometimes at work you
[18:19]know a lot of people they overeat and they binge on food
[18:27]when they're at work you're in your work you're bored you're not
[18:32]concentrating on what you're doing so you binge on that dessert on
[18:35]that food or whatever you can get your hands on and this
[18:41]is a problem in society one of the leading causes of overeating
[18:45]and obesity is boredom people simply are bored they want to change
[18:50]their state so how do they change it instead of doing something
[18:54]productive doing an activity for example they go and eat but this
[19:01]eating is destroying their health so if you find yourself in a
[19:05]constant state of being bored or being bored too often realize there
[19:11]are risks you need to do something about it this is ruining
[19:14]your health it's ruining your life that's number one the second harm
[19:18]and danger Studies by scientists and researchers have shown that people who
[19:24]are always bored they are more like likely to be depressed to
[19:32]be under stress and to be addicted to drugs one of the
[19:39]leading factors to drug addiction is the state of feeling bored especially
[19:43]many of the youth around the world they don't know what to
[19:47]do with their time they're bored or whatever circumstances they're in they're
[19:53]not happy with those circumstances they resort to drugs it's a way
[19:57]for them to distract them themselves to get them out of this
[20:00]boredom but it end UPS ruining it ends up ruining them even
[20:05]more so this is a serious issue in our society it's leading
[20:09]to depression many of the depressed people in our society many of
[20:14]them what triggered their depression is this feeling of boredom and this
[20:21]is problematic we need to do something about it and even those
[20:24]people who went on drug rehabilitation you know they were addicted to
[20:30]drugs and they recovered after a while those who were prone to
[20:33]getting bored they were more likely to go back to drug to
[20:42]drug addiction this is the second danger that it poses the third
[20:46]one is that it reduces productivity at work this feeling of boredom
[20:53]will not make you so productive at work in fact it leads
[20:56]to accidents at work for example example those people who work in
[20:59]the in construction truck drivers when they're bored and their mind is
[21:04]constantly wandering and distracted that leads to injuries that leads to accidents
[21:11]and number four it shortens your lifespan scientists have demonstrated through research
[21:20]that people who are prone to boredom actually have shorter lives so
[21:24]we see that this is a serious issue that we are are
[21:32]dealing with we should not underestimate them the fifth danger that it
[21:38]presents is that one of the leading factors to sins is also
[21:41]AB boredom many of our youth why do they sin yes we
[21:46]all have desires obviously it's because of our desires and temptations that
[21:51]many people sin but one leading factor that leads to disobeying Allah
[21:58]subhah wa tala and leads to sinning is this feeling of boredom
[22:03]it ruins a human being's faith it leads to evil habits negative
[22:11]habits because especially when our youngsters they don't know what to do
[22:16]they're bored they resort to sinful acts to get them out of
[22:21]this state to keep them busy with something most of the sins
[22:27]most of the sins in our society one leading factor is boredom
[22:32]you know those for example people who are addicted to or backbiting
[22:38]right isn't this a problem in our everyday life one reason is
[22:43]because you're bored you're bored you don't know what to do you're
[22:48]not doing something productive so let's just sit chat and talk about
[22:52]who did what what happened here what happened to this person to
[22:56]that person and then we start you know attacking the dignity and
[23:00]reputation of other people why if you're not bored and you have
[23:07]a fulfilling life and you have something productive to do it will
[23:10]be much less likely for you to engage in G sessions in
[23:17]backbiting sessions number two is music we see that many of our
[23:20]youngsters they're addicted to unlawful types of music why because they're bored
[23:24]they've got free much time on their hands they're bored they don't
[23:28]know what to do so they resort to music and many many
[23:35]other negative habits harmful habits are caused by a feeling of boredom
[23:40]and so this is a problem the six harm and danger that
[23:47]it presents to us is that it reduces creativity it staves off
[23:51]creativity when you're bored and your mind is distracted you are less
[23:59]likely to be creative and this is a problem many people when
[24:02]they examine themselves and their lives and why they're not creative one
[24:06]possible cause one possible reason is that they're bored when you're bored
[24:11]your mind can not simply function properly you cannot concentrate it significantly
[24:20]reduces your creativity and by the way one important thing about creative
[24:27]creativity when it comes to our children many parents these days of
[24:32]course it's out of their compassion and concern for their children you
[24:37]see that they treat their children like robots every single minute of
[24:42]the day has been planned out for you're having them do something
[24:46]every part of the day yes it's good to be concerned it's
[24:50]good to have a good healthy schedule for your kids but do
[24:54]you know that when you treat them like robots and you have
[24:58]this rigid schedule that they have to stick to this reduces their
[25:01]creativity then they'll act like robots too let a child be creative
[25:08]give them some room for creativity don't figure out everything for them
[25:14]give them you know a full schedule which has been predetermined for
[25:19]them give some creativity for themselves let them decide from 4: to
[25:24]6:00 p.m.
[25:25]once they've done their assignments let them decide what they want do
[25:29]let them explore let them discover what interests them that helps them
[25:33]in becoming creative but many PE many parents these days you find
[25:40]them they don't give room for creativity for their children they want
[25:44]to design everything program everything determine everything and this is wrong this
[25:48]reduces a child's creativity allow your children to be creative encourage them
[25:55]to be creative tell them you have have a couple of hours
[26:00]you figure out what to do brainstorm you figure it out let
[26:05]a child figure it out it's much more beneficial for for that
[26:09]child than you figuring out everything for your child so one problem
[26:14]of boredom is that it reduces creativity now there's also an interesting
[26:20]side to this while chronic boredom you know this permanent boredom reduces
[26:29]creativity some level of boredom a small level of boredom actually creates
[26:34]creativity it leads to creativity you know for example scientists tell us
[26:41]evolutionary scientists they tell us that our ancestors you know in those
[26:46]primitive societies and hunting and Gathering societies what led them to explore
[26:54]and discover what led them to explore so many things you know
[26:57]what led them to to try that if you rub a stick
[27:01]against another stick in a certain way you could create fire what
[27:05]led them to Explorations and discoveries this feeling of boredom because they
[27:11]were doing their daily activities but then they realized you know what
[27:15]this is getting a little bit boring let's try something new let's
[27:19]explore something new and that led them to many types of Explorations
[27:22]and we see thek the wisdom of the system of Allah subhana
[27:28]wa tala some level of boredom is necessary for you to be
[27:31]creative you know that curi Curiosity that we have where does it
[27:35]come from why do human beings have this feeling of curiosity you're
[27:44]curious you're always wondering about everything around you this feeling of curious
[27:53]curiosity is actually fueled by boredom when you get bored with what's
[27:57]going on around you in a healthy way of course that pushes
[28:04]you to go and actually do something differently try something new because
[28:08]you get bored with the same old thing it pushes you to
[28:12]do something new so boredom is really interesting when it's at a
[28:18]low healthy level it encourages the human being to be healthy but
[28:22]when it when it becomes excessive it starts distracting you it reduces
[28:27]your concentration and it reduces your creativity as well so these are
[28:33]some dangers and harms that are associated with boredom now what's the
[28:37]solution what can we do about this now if you're single go
[28:42]get married and if you're married try a second one that's a
[28:49]good way to keep yourself not bored for the rest of your
[28:51]life but don't get me wrong it's not the second one that
[28:56]will keep you company the first one will make sure sure you'll
[28:58]never ever get bored to the rest of your life now on
[29:02]a serious note on a serious note what is this solution this
[29:09]feeling of boredom that plagues all of us some of us more
[29:13]than others what do we do about it what is the solution
[29:20]to it researchers have demonstrated that one of the most powerful solutions
[29:25]to boredom is meditation could you imagine that meditation now in Islam
[29:31]what is meditation it's Salah these acts of worship when you turn
[29:38]to Allah subhana wa ta'ala when you know that you have a
[29:40]Creator to interact with a Creator to speak to Allah is always
[29:47]there he's there for you when a Believer is in that feeling
[29:53]of getting bored and you find life is just not exciting and
[30:00]fulfilling you turn to Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala the source of all
[30:04]goodness in the universe that feeling for the believer is so sweet
[30:12]and exciting it gives you an amazing energy to continue with your
[30:16]life it's truly amazing decades ago there was a group of people
[30:23]who were imprisoned in Algeria in a political problem that occurred there
[30:33]they imprisoned them and they put them in solitary confinement now we
[30:38]don't know what solitary confinement is we can't even imagine it yes
[30:42]we know what it is obviously you know they put you in
[30:47]a Cell all by yourself no interaction you can't see anyone you
[30:51]can't talk to anyone we know what it is but we really
[30:52]cannot grasp it it's one of the worst types of punishment that
[31:01]a prisoner can experience solitary confinement so they put them they put
[31:06]them in solitary confinement there's no sound there's nothing to do and
[31:11]and after a while these people were starting getting crazy you know
[31:16]it's been mentioned that when they would see an ant just an
[31:22]ant walking they would they would feel happy they would feel excited
[31:24]there's an ant there's some movement in the room besides me there's
[31:29]another creature besides me here in this prison cell and you know
[31:33]what the prison guards would do Subhan Allah look at their cruelty
[31:39]when they would walk to for example give them some food or
[31:43]check on them they would wear silencing boots boots that make no
[31:47]noise silencing boots to not make any noise because they know that
[31:55]these people in solitary confinement they're so desperate to hear something even
[32:01]if someone is walking they're so desperate for that they even deny
[32:05]them that look at the cruelty of the human being now there
[32:08]were a group of people all of them after a while about
[32:13]a year or so they gone they they went mad they became
[32:16]crazy when you lock someone up for an entire year no interaction
[32:23]no movement nothing of that sort what do you think happens what
[32:27]do you think happens this person becomes crazy and they did actually
[32:32]become psychologically ill except for one of them he had memorized the
[32:38]book of Allah subhah wa ta'ala he had memorized the Holy Quran
[32:45]and every day in his solitary confinement cell he would re read
[32:49]verses of the Quran and contemplate on them it's the Quran and
[32:53]him talking to Allah subhana tala that kept him say an entire
[32:59]year of solitary confinement what kept Him sane what saved him from
[33:04]this boredom that made others crazy and insane is him memorizing the
[33:11]Holy Quran and speaking to Allah subhanahu wa taala what do you
[33:18]think Al IM did 14 years in prison 14 years what do
[33:21]you think the Imam did in fact he was thankful to Allah
[33:25]oh Allah I thank you for giving me this opportunity to Worship
[33:30]You day and night because when he was in his Society he
[33:34]had many obligations and responsibilities now that he's in his prison cell
[33:40]there are no distractions these were Sweet Moments for the Imam to
[33:46]turn to his Lord to turn to Allah subhanahu wa taala so
[33:53]researchers are saying that one powerful remedy one one powerful solution to
[34:00]boredom is meditation it's praying supplicating to Allah subhah wa taala it
[34:08]generates the sweet and exciting feeling in your spirit in your heart
[34:12]that keeps you very close to the almighty God that's one number
[34:16]two the second solution get out in your Society brothers and sisters
[34:23]and be active in your community center and your mosque meet people
[34:27]our technology has isolated us it has made us indiv relistic people
[34:33]many of our people today you look at them in society they're
[34:38]isolated they live their own lives they have nothing to do with
[34:42]anyone else they don't have any social bonds real social bonds with
[34:50]others this creates depression this creates anxiety and this creates boredom why
[34:55]is it that our youth youth in this society and other societies
[34:59]they're not as active as they should be take advantage of this
[35:05]opportunity that Allah subhana tala has given you a blessed place for
[35:09]you to gather especially in these holy nights where are our youth
[35:14]we need to encourage them to come and participate going out meeting
[35:19]people engaging in activities this reduces boredom this is one very important
[35:25]solution try try something you know those people who are bored let
[35:32]me tell you let me tell them the world is much bigger
[35:35]than you think many people think that's it there's nothing for me
[35:40]I'm done with this life I'm done there's nothing exciting for me
[35:45]Habibi the world is much bigger than that there's so much for
[35:51]you to do go out and explore your Society explore your community
[35:54]see how you can help see how how you can volunteer and
[36:00]one powerful remedy is volunteering give an hour two hours of your
[36:05]time if you can every day if not once a week if
[36:09]not once a month go and volunteer in your community center and
[36:13]your Masjid and your mosque this is a powerful way to keep
[36:20]you away from boredom muham Muhammad mad so that's a second solution
[36:33]a third solution is to increase your knowledge when you read when
[36:38]you increase your knowledge you will never get bored there's always some
[36:44]knowledge that will Intrigue you that will keep you interested unfortunately our
[36:49]youth these days they're not really interested and increasing their knowledge during
[36:52]the weekends sit by the fireplace or go to a nice park
[36:58]on the bay and read take an hour take two hours three
[37:04]hours educate yourself you know there's a beautiful Arabic phrase that says
[37:11]books are The Gardens of Scholars you know Everyone likes to go
[37:18]to a nice beautiful garden enjoy their time there the garden for
[37:22]Scholars is their books I remember once about 10 years ago one
[37:29]of the scholars one of the late Scholars may Allah shower his
[37:35]soul with Mercy he was very busy with all of his activities
[37:37]and work and his classes I remember one day he said something
[37:43]very beautiful he says my dream what is what is your dream
[37:46]what is your dream everyone has a dream this scholar says my
[37:50]dream is for me to be in a room with 10,000 books
[37:56]and nothing nothing to distract me this is my dream can you
[38:00]imagine this is my dream this is what intrigues me this is
[38:05]what interest me the more you elevate yourself in terms of Education
[38:10]in terms of knowledge the less you will be bored the more
[38:16]you will protect yourself from the dangers and the harms of boredom
[38:20]so these are some solutions now let's get to this important Point
[38:25]what about acts of worship you see many people when they repeatedly
[38:31]engage in these acts of worship they get bored yesterday we talked
[38:37]about the importance of repetition to protect our F it's important for
[38:42]us to repeat these acts of worship because that's how our subconscious
[38:48]mind works but the reality is you'll find many people in society
[38:53]all of us all of us experience this to different degrees of
[38:57]course you'll find many people saying look I got bored of my
[39:02]Salah I've prayed thousands of times every single day the same routine
[39:07]I'm bored of my prayers I'm bored of reading the Holy Quran
[39:15]these acts of worship are boring me I'm not interacting with them
[39:18]I'm not enjoying them I read the Surah once okay I understood
[39:22]the story being said and that's it enough now many people won't
[39:28]say this to your face you know in this way so bluntly
[39:33]but in our hearts that's how we think many people are like
[39:40]that they get bored of these acts of worship that are repetitive
[39:42]so what do we do about this before I mention some solutions
[39:48]or how we can address this I'll share with you three important
[39:52]points that cause boredom in Acts of worship number one is being
[39:56]attacked Ed with the materialistic aspect of your life when your heart
[40:04]is attached to this D to this world to money to your
[40:07]cars to your gadgets to your whatever it is that's materialistic you
[40:13]will not enjoy the sweetness of worship and I it it it
[40:19]it places a barrier on your heart so if you if you
[40:25]find yourself not interacting with your Salah not enjoying your Salah quickly
[40:30]getting bored with your Salah inspect your heart see how much are
[40:34]you attached to this materialistic world do something about that remind yourself
[40:41]that everything I'll have to leave behind me nothing will remain with
[40:46]me and death is certainty I cannot escape death if I can
[40:52]escape death somebody would have before me no one can escape death
[40:57]I have to leave everything behind keep reminding yourself the more you
[41:03]remind yourself of that brothers and sisters the more you will enjoy
[41:08]your acts of worship that's number one number two sins sins sins
[41:13]brothers and sisters our sins they take the sweetness from our acts
[41:18]of worship and Salah and they don't allow you to interact with
[41:23]your Salah you quickly get bored in FL in fact they deflate
[41:29]your desire for worship especially especially sins that has to that have
[41:37]to do with our Chastity sins that have to do with one's
[41:41]Chastity they deflate your desire from worshiping Allah and you understand what
[41:50]I'm saying here we need to be aware especially our youth brothers
[41:54]and sisters try it once you repent repent from these sins you
[41:59]will find new energy to worship Allah subhah wa ta'ala but as
[42:02]long as we're addicted to some of these sins to some of
[42:08]these evil habits we will not have the desire to worship any
[42:12]types of sins sins that have to do with our Chastity or
[42:17]for example music do you think someone who's just listened to music
[42:20]and has been dancing around you think this person can stand and
[42:24]pray and offer a beautiful Salah to Allah subhana wa tala you
[42:30]think this person can come on a Thursday night and recite Dua
[42:35]K and cry in Dua no these sins they remove our desire
[42:42]to worship Allah subhah wa ta'ala so the number two is sins
[42:45]number three is overeating yes and this is a problem for some
[42:51]of us in the month of Ramadan when you go forar enjoy
[42:54]the delicious food it's wonderful excellent food here you will not find
[42:59]anywhere else good food like you do here but don't overeat don't
[43:05]overeat when you overeat and you stuff yourself and you become heavy
[43:10]you think you can read du no you become lazy your soul
[43:17]becomes lazy your spirit becomes lazy you will not enjoy you will
[43:21]quickly get bored you're sitting in Du and it's torture for you
[43:25]when is this going to end you're not interacting why because you've
[43:30]made your soul lazy people who overeat according toi and according to
[43:34]science they become lazy their soul becomes heavy and they cannot interact
[43:39]with I so now let's get to the question of how what
[43:48]can we do in order to make our IAS more enjoyable number
[43:54]one and we will discuss this in when we start our series
[44:01]on Salah sometime next week first of all understand what you're saying
[44:05]and what you're doing many of us don't know the meaning of
[44:08]our acts in Salah if I don't know Arabic learn Arabic at
[44:13]least learn the meanings of the verses the tap of the verses
[44:18]know what you're doing many of us pray but we do not
[44:20]what we're doing and one of the nights will explain the significance
[44:23]behind every act in Salah so that's number one number two you
[44:33]need a constant incentive muhamad see not only you know adults get
[44:42]bored kids get bored too and they find creative ways to keep
[44:49]themselves busy mashallah mamuh amen may Allah bless all of your children
[45:00]so the second way for us to fight this boredom when it
[45:06]comes to acts of I is what I call a system of
[45:13]rewards and punishments we need a constant incentive you know psychologist Colberg
[45:17]he has this interesting theory about moral development people in society why
[45:23]do they act the way they act citizens why do they obey
[45:27]the laws you know this sounds childish but the number one incentive
[45:31]and driving force behind people being good citizens and not breaking the
[45:37]law is fear of punishment imagine if Canada tomorrow says no more
[45:43]ticketing we're not going to find anyone we're not going to give
[45:49]ticket to anyone who speeds who doesn't stop at the stop sign
[45:52]who crosses a red light what do you think will happen all
[45:56]these good citizens what will happen to them overnight it works it's
[46:01]childish I know because you think that if you threaten a child
[46:04]it'll work no it works more with adults than children most people
[46:10]most people do what is right because they're scared of the consequences
[46:15]it's this fear so that's number one keep this in mind when
[46:20]you're praying keep in mind the punishment of Allah subhah wa ta'ala
[46:24]the scenes of the day of judgment what will happen in the
[46:27]grave make this an incentive every time you stand to pray picture
[46:35]when you're put in your grave picture the day of judgment this
[46:38]sometimes will give you an incentive and it will reduce your distraction
[46:42]and it will you it will make you enjoy your I more
[46:48]that's one number two is the rewards for some people many of
[46:52]the things that they do is not because they're scared of punishment
[46:55]they're at a second more higher level it's because they want a
[46:59]reward either to have a good reputation or to achieve some sort
[47:07]of reward in society and we see this with our kids sometimes
[47:10]you threaten them it doesn't work right you have to lure them
[47:14]if you do this I'll buy you this toy I'll take you
[47:19]to this place and this does actually work when it comes to
[47:22]brothers and sisters just try to imagine the reward that Allah subhana
[47:29]ta'ala has prepared for us imagine that if someone tells you I'll
[47:34]give you $110,000 every time you pray how will you pray be
[47:38]honest with yourself just ask yourself now how will you will you
[47:43]get Bard $110,000 for every Salah you know what the Hadith by
[47:50]the Imam says he says when every time when you stand up
[47:52]in prayer and you recite the Holy Quran Alat or the following
[47:56]Surah for every letter Allah subhana tala gives you 100 100 Good
[48:06]Deeds how many letters is it 19 letters is 19 letters you
[48:15]do the math for saying 19 letters and each letter 100 Good
[48:23]Deeds how many is that that's 1,900 just for saying and your
[48:28]Salah keep this in mind this is a motivator that's fine yes
[48:34]there are higher levels of worshiping Allah but this is also acceptable
[48:38]so okay to worship Allah subhana wa ta'ala in hopes of getting
[48:42]this reward let this motivate you number three and this is very
[48:48]important and this is where IM Al says and there are some
[48:53]people who worship Allah not because they're afraid of hell not because
[48:56]they want to go to heaven no but because they have found
[49:03]Allah worthy of being praised when you stand to worship Allah subhanahu
[49:08]wa ta'ala try this brothers and sisters be thankful to Allah every
[49:13]single day and this is something practical for us every single day
[49:20]choose one blessing that Allah has given you let's say today Monday
[49:27]June what's today June 12th I will dedicate this day to thank
[49:35]Allah for the blessing of Health When you pray today keep this
[49:38]in mind oh Allah you've given me Health if I were sick
[49:43]what kind of life I would have had remember others who are
[49:45]sick in your Society every day choose a blessing whether it's your
[49:49]health whether it's your house it's your parents if it's your family
[49:55]it's your work it's the opportunity to be educated choose one of
[49:59]these Blessings by Allah subhah wa ta'ala in your Salah think of
[50:03]that blessing and be thankful to Allah subhah wa tala you think
[50:08]you'll get bored if you do this every day be creative and
[50:12]choose one blessing at the same time while you're praying dedicate some
[50:18]days to repent from particular specific sins today oh Allah I want
[50:26]to repent from this sin that I have committed in your Salah
[50:29]remember the sin that you committed and ask Allah for forgiveness while
[50:34]you're praying yes while you're praying because see the heart you've inflicted
[50:39]a wound on your heart through that sin now this wound has
[50:46]to heal the best time for this wound to heal is in
[50:50]your Salah while you're praying repent to Allah subhana wa ta'ala from
[50:55]the sin if you do the if you do these practical steps
[50:58]this will help you from being bored in your Salah and always
[51:04]brothers and sisters do something new in your Salah don't read the
[51:07]same Dua every time in your read a new Dua when you
[51:13]reigning a Surah at home memorize several verses and suras from the
[51:17]Holy Quran and every Salah you read a new chapter this will
[51:22]help you stay focused and it will protect you from being bored
[51:24]in your act of Salah now let's get to the final Point
[51:30]very briefly what about on the day of judgment in Paradise as
[51:35]good as it gets some people object especially you'll find some atheists
[51:39]objecting they're saying you know you Believers you worship God so that
[51:44]he'll take you to heaven okay as good as Heaven gets and
[51:48]the Eds is going to be boring everything that's new is interesting
[51:53]in the beginning right but that then after trillions and trillions and
[51:57]trillions of years it's going to get boring in Paradise so how
[52:02]do we address that of course the real knowledge is with Allah
[52:06]subhana wa tala but very briefly number one what by far the
[52:13]greatest pleasure in Paradise is what the Quran mentions in one verse
[52:18]Allah mentions all the pleasures of paradise then Allah subhana says the
[52:26]satisfaction of Allah that he's pleased with you that is greater than
[52:31]all of these other blessings of paradise being with Allah being with
[52:43]Allah the king of the universe that in itself is an infinite
[52:47]pleasure for the people of paradise why because Allah is infinite Allah
[52:54]is infinite so getting to know him is infinite every single day
[53:02]in paradise Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala will reveal a new dimension there's
[53:06]a Hadith from IM he quotes the prophet Muhammad s in which
[53:18]the prophet says in Paradise every Friday all the Believers in Paradise
[53:23]will visit Allah subhanahu wa tala now this is symbolic they don't
[53:27]physically visit him this is symbolic and every time they visit him
[53:36]Allah subhana will reveal a new dimension of his infinite self to
[53:42]them every Friday Believers visit God they get this new experience now
[53:46]why is it that you'll never get bored of this because when
[53:52]we human beings when we have a need we never get bored
[53:54]let me give you a quick example have you ever got bored
[53:58]of quenching your thirst especially now that you're fasting you're all thirsty
[54:04]I'm very thirsty you can tell after speaking for this time after
[54:08]18 hours you're thirsty every time you drink that cold pure water
[54:14]you quench your thirst there's a pleasure in it right do you
[54:18]get bored of it why if a trillion times you get thirsty
[54:23]and you quench your thirst do you get bored of it no
[54:26]you don't why because you have a need now this is a
[54:33]physical need the soul also has needs and the greatest need for
[54:36]the soul is to know Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala that's the greatest
[54:41]need that's why every day in paradise when Allah subhah wa ta'ala
[54:47]gives us gives us knowledge of him and his Essence for us
[54:55]that day will be an amazing joyful day and Allah is infinite
[54:59]so these blessings are also infinite that's the first point the second
[55:04]Point very briefly is that Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala his powers are
[55:10]unlimited every day in paradise Allah subhana tala will create a new
[55:14]pleasure doesn't the Hadith from the IM say Paradise there are Pleasures
[55:28]that no eye has seen you have not heard about it no
[55:30]mind has been able to think it by the way this is
[55:35]also mentioned in the Bible in 1 Corinthians chapter 2: 9 and
[55:41]10 this exact Hadith that the IM mentions is mentioned in the
[55:43]Bible that Allah has prepared for those who love him something that
[55:48]has not reached our imagination so on the day of judgment Allah
[55:53]T is infinite and and he will create infinite ways to keep
[56:03]the inhabitants of Paradise in a joyous State we ask Allah subhah
[56:10]wa ta'ala to open our hearts to give us the to brothers
[56:13]and sisters so that on the day of judgment we will be
[56:18]blessed with all the other [Music] believers [Music] a
