[0:01][music] [music] Respected brothers and sisters, this past I was with a
[0:30]group performing the zara.
[0:31]When we arrived in Baghdad to visit Almis and Al Jawadam, I
[0:41]was sitting with a few brothers at the hotel.
[0:45]We were either having breakfast or lunch.
[0:48]We were having some nice discussions.
[0:50]One of the brothers, a very dear brother who lives in Toronto,
[0:55]he asked me about my grandfather.
[0:58]said Kazwini may Allah bless him who's in Kbala now he asked
[1:05]me about my grandfather's age I told him my grandfather is 97
[1:12]years old may Allah prolong his life and prolong all of your
[1:17]lives he asked me an interesting question he told me say what's
[1:20]his secret to longevity we know that our lives and our ages
[1:29]are in the hands of Allah.
[1:30]But what is his secret that he's lived so long?
[1:34]Does he have any habits, anything that he does such that he's
[1:38]made it to 97 and counting?
[1:40]Alhamdulillah.
[1:42]So I started reflecting as I was eating with them.
[1:47]I started reflecting on my grandfather's life and the habits that he
[1:50]had and I was able to come up with several reasons why
[1:59]my grandfather has such a long life.
[2:02]And tonight in my discussion I would like to share that with
[2:05]you because this is really relevant and important for us.
[2:10]At the end of the day, we humans, we pursue longevity.
[2:15]We all want to live a long life.
[2:19]And not just any long life, a long life that is meaningful.
[2:22]If someone lives for a 100red years in corruption, in deviation, causing
[2:29]harm, causing destruction, this long life is a curse.
[2:32]If someone lives a hundred years, but they're crippled, they can't take
[2:39]care of themselves.
[2:38]They also feel humiliation.
[2:41]They don't feel quality of life.
[2:44]So we human beings, we pursue a long life and we spend
[2:51]trillions of dollars on longevity.
[2:53]Statistics show that human beings spend around the world $6 trillion dollar
[3:03]on general well-being from anti-aging products, diet, health, medicine.
[3:12]We spend $6 trillion a year in order to increase our life,
[3:17]in order to live longer.
[3:20]So this is something that human beings really care about.
[3:23]This is something that human beings spend a lot of money on
[3:29]and we're just trying to discover a magic pill, a magic discovery
[3:33]in the lab that allows us to live long.
[3:36]So what are my grandfather's secrets?
[3:39]My grandfather does not use any anti-aging unusual products.
[3:45]He doesn't pay any monthly subscription.
[3:48]He doesn't go to the gym, but alhamdulillah, he's 97 and counting.
[3:53]So, what's his secret?
[3:53]In analyzing his life, I come to these eight habits that my
[4:03]grandfather has that I truly believe have helped him age this long.
[4:08]He was born in 1929.
[4:12]So, he is 97 years old.
[4:13]Now the first habit that I will share with you my grandfather
[4:17]I've noticed this about him he's constantly mentioning the name of Allah
[4:25]and he remembers Allah in when I have lunch with him or
[4:30]dinner or breakfast you know it's to say before you eat my
[4:38]grandfather he says bismillah with every single bite how How many times
[4:43]do you bite your food when you're eating?
[4:46]30, 40, 50 times.
[4:50]I don't know.
[4:49]Many, many times.
[4:51]With every single bite, he says, "Bismillah, bismillah." Throughout his day, he
[4:59]constantly remembers Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[5:03]And from a scientific perspective, this is proven to prolong your life
[5:09]and improve your health.
[5:11]How?
[5:11]Do you know that the number one killer today in many societies
[5:15]like the US is stress?
[5:17]People die because of stress.
[5:20]People who are under stress, whether it's work related stress, family related
[5:25]stress, any type of stress, the chances of them dying is 50%
[5:35]more when they're under stress.
[5:36]Stress causes inflammation in the body.
[5:38]It overburdens your organs.
[5:42]It stresses the heart.
[5:43]Many heart attacks and strokes occur because of stress.
[5:47]One way to destress is by constantly remembering the name of Allah.
[5:55]It gives you positive energy.
[5:56]It reminds you to calm down.
[5:58]It's okay.
[5:59]You have a Lord.
[5:59]He's with you.
[6:02]That's so beautiful that I see in his life.
[6:05]And Allah mentions this in the Quran.
[6:06]This is no secret.
[6:11]Through the remembrance of Allah subhana wa ta'ala, your heart will be
[6:17]at rest.
[6:16]Meaning stress is not going to kill you so soon in your
[6:24]life.
[6:22]One of the benefits of the of Allah remembering Allah is that
[6:28]it allows you to de-stress, to calm down.
[6:31]Look at Prophet Musa.
[6:34]He was faced with the tyrant of his time who was powerful.
[6:41]He had the strongest army just like today these tyrants who have
[6:45]very powerful armies.
[6:48]You think you can overcome Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala when he cornered
[6:57]Musam and his big army chased prophet Musa to the sea.
[7:01]You know what people said?
[7:05]Even some members of Benny is you know what they said?
[7:07]Game over.
[7:10]That's it.
[7:11]Mah, what do you want to do now, please?
[7:13]You promised us all these years that God is going to save
[7:18]us from the Pharaoh and now he's mobilized a massive army.
[7:21]They're behind us and in front of us there's the sea.
[7:26]What?
[7:24]Where?
[7:25]What do you want us to do now?
[7:26]Game over, Ms.
[7:29]Sorry, you lost.
[7:30]MS may not know exactly what's going to happen next, but he
[7:35]knew one thing.
[7:40]He says, "No, Allah is with me.
[7:45]He'll find a way.
[7:45]He'll find a path for me.
[7:46]How?
[7:47]I don't know.
[7:48]I know that Allah has promised me victory.
[7:51]How that's going to come, I don't know, but he will guide
[7:56]me." And that's when Allah revealed to Musa Alisam to split the
[7:59]sea.
[7:59]They passed and Allah drowned the pharaoh.
[8:02]When you remember Allah and his power and you're able to zoom
[8:10]out, you destress.
[8:09]The problem why the main reason why we sometimes get caught up
[8:17]in stress and we lose hope is that we're not able to
[8:19]zoom out.
[8:20]We get stuck in the details of life and the difficulties of
[8:23]life.
[8:24]Once you zoom out, believe me, you will feel at peace.
[8:28]How many of you when you get stuck on traffic on the
[8:30]highway?
[8:31]How many of you feel road rage?
[8:33]You feel angry.
[8:35]You feel tired.
[8:37]You just want to go home, especially Toronto.
[8:40]I was there two weeks ago.
[8:42]It's terrible.
[8:40]You don't want to get stuck on Toronto's freeway during rush hour.
[8:47]Trust me.
[8:46]Halifax.
[8:47]Alhamdulillah.
[8:48]Much better.
[8:49]Much better than Toronto.
[8:51]Those poor guys stuck in the traffic.
[8:54]They're going through a rough time.
[8:58]But now if you zoom out and you get an aerial view
[9:00]of the traffic like you're in a helicopter and it's around sunsets,
[9:04]it's at night.
[9:06]What do you see?
[9:07]Do you see something chaotic or beautiful?
[9:10]You see something beautiful.
[9:13]On one side you see these red lights.
[9:16]On the other side you see yellow white lights.
[9:20]That's why on postcards usually they'll have a freeway in the background
[9:23]of a downtown with these lights.
[9:25]It's beautiful.
[9:27]See, now that you were able to zoom out and you see
[9:29]the bigger picture, it's beautiful.
[9:30]But once you're stuck inside, you're on the road, you struggle.
[9:36]So this habit that I've seen from my grandfather has helped him
[9:42]live 97 years old so far.
[9:44]He's always remembering the name of Allah.
[9:46]Even when he's eating, with every bite, bismillah, you know how much
[9:52]positive energy that gives you?
[9:52]This keeps your organs alive.
[9:54]It keeps your cells healthy.
[9:57]It keeps your heart healthy.
[9:58]And not just the even the Quran.
[10:02]Years ago, I had the honor of spending the month of Ramadan
[10:05]with him in Kbala.
[10:06]He was at the time maybe like 88, 89.
[10:10]This is almost 10 years ago.
[10:14]Every day he would read two, two chapters of the Quran.
[10:17]Even we struggle to do that.
[10:21]We are who are young and energetic.
[10:22]We come up with excuses and say I don't have time at
[10:25]that age despite his busy schedule two of the Quran every single
[10:30]day in the month of Ramadan and outside of Ramadan throughout the
[10:35]year every day he completes one ju this keeps you alive brothers
[10:39]and sisters this gives you an infinite source of spiritual energy of
[10:45]spiritual and religious fuel that keeps you going.
[10:49]So this is one beautiful habit that I've seen my grandfather observing
[10:56]throughout his life.
[11:00]The second habit my grandfather normally is awake before.
[11:04]This is called sah time.
[11:07]You know those two three hours before he's always awake during a
[11:12]portion of that to pray salat.
[11:14]He does not skip.
[11:17]And 20 years ago in Los Angeles in California, something happened that
[11:21]affects me until today.
[11:25]About 20 years ago, 23 years ago, he had open heart surgery.
[11:31]So he came back home from the hospital and he needed help
[11:37]to get up and go and use the bathroom or do woo.
[11:42]So I went into his room to sleep in his room so
[11:44]that if he needed to get up to go to the bathroom,
[11:47]he would call me, I would help him.
[11:49]So I remember one night it was around 4:00 a.m.
[11:53]I felt there was a movement in the room.
[11:57]So I woke up, I saw him coming back from the bathroom
[12:00]and he was in pain.
[12:03]He was struggling to walk.
[12:03]So I got up.
[12:06]I told him, "Jut, why didn't you wake me up?
[12:08]I came here and I'm sleeping here in your room so I
[12:12]can help you.
[12:11]You were supposed to call me so I help you get up
[12:15]and go to the bathroom.
[12:15]He's like, "No, I didn't want to disturb you.
[12:18]I saw you sleeping." I said, "Haram." Then here's what I noticed.
[12:23]He got up to do woo.
[12:26]And then he went he stood at a table because of the
[12:30]surgery.
[12:31]He can't do a full and sujud.
[12:33]He started praying salat and I can sense he was in pain
[12:42]because even standing for like 20 minutes on your feet at that
[12:45]age he was like 75 at the time he was in pain
[12:50]and the doctor told him don't sit in your bed and you
[12:52]know do your salah but he refused he says no I want
[12:59]to get up on this night and pray to my lord even
[13:01]that night he was in pain after the open heart surgery he
[13:07]did not skip salat that is one of the factors one of
[13:13]the habits that has given him a long life so this is
[13:15]the second one the third one brothers and sisters when I analyze
[13:19]the life of my grandfather and why he's lived this long my
[13:24]grandfather never overeats sometimes if I'm invited somewhere and there's like six
[13:30]types of foods and I have some favorite foods we eat until
[13:35]we stuff ourselves, right?
[13:37]Occasionally, we'll do that.
[13:38]We're all guilty of that.
[13:38]My grandfather, never in my life did I see him overeat.
[13:43]Even if they bring him his favorite food, even if they put
[13:47]six foods in front of him.
[13:48]Let's say there's an invitation, there's six types of foods, he eats
[13:52]the same portion every single day, you can tell exactly what his
[13:57]portion is.
[13:58]And that really keeps you healthy because when we overeat, you stress
[14:04]the body, the organs, it impacts your health.
[14:05]It impacts your cholesterol.
[14:08]It impacts your heart.
[14:09]It impacts your brain.
[14:09]So this is a very beautiful habit to have.
[14:13]Eat.
[14:14]He eats.
[14:15]It's not like he, you know, denies himself the pleasure of halal
[14:19]food.
[14:19]No, he does eat, but he has the same portion size.
[14:24]He refuses to overeat and he's satisfied with that.
[14:27]This brothers and sisters has really kept him alive.
[14:31]And in the morning he also has a secret which keeps him
[14:36]alive.
[14:34]I know there are a lot of healthy foods but in the
[14:38]morning he has some honey and some pistachios or walnuts.
[14:43]You know how healthy this is.
[14:45]It's mustab to start your morning with some genuine real honey.
[14:48]Not the fake ones.
[14:51]Try to get the raw real honey with some walnuts or pistachio
[14:54]with it.
[14:55]You know how healthy this is.
[14:57]This gives you a lot of positive energy.
[14:59]This gives you a lot of strength.
[15:03]So this is one category of habits that I've seen with him.
[15:09]He does not overeat and he tries to have a healthy breakfast.
[15:15]This really keeps you going.
[15:16]The next habit that I'll share with you and this is why
[15:22]I believe my grandfather is still alive today.
[15:26]My grandfather never retires.
[15:28]You know, sometimes when we're discussing retirement, he's against retirement.
[15:32]He hears this person, okay, I've retired.
[15:35]I'm going, you know, he one of his friends, he told him,
[15:39]I'm going to this country and just, you know, chilling in a
[15:42]farm and I don't know, doing what?
[15:43]He's like, why?
[15:45]He's like, I'm retiring.
[15:45]I'm like, I'm almost 80 years old.
[15:48]My grandfather says, my retirement starts in my grave.
[15:53]As long as I'm alive and I'm able to breathe, I will
[15:59]not retire.
[16:01]And until today, he does not retire.
[16:03]At 97, he doesn't retire.
[16:04]He's still fasting.
[16:06]I know the doctor tells him not to, but he says, "I
[16:08]feel better when I fast.
[16:11]I know this is better for me." And 20 years ago, he's
[16:14]almost 80 years old.
[16:17]Have you Do you know people almost 80 who start big projects
[16:20]in their life?
[16:22]That's when people settle down and they retire and they go to
[16:25]Florida and enjoy the warm weather.
[16:26]My grandfather, he was almost 80.
[16:30]He established one of the most important charity hospitals in Iraq and
[16:35]an orphanage.
[16:37]Our dear brother, he visited the hospital.
[16:39]Do you know how much hard work that is?
[16:43]Believe me, I would sometimes go on Zara to Iraq day and
[16:46]night.
[16:47]He's preoccupied.
[16:48]you know, for years, every single day, he would go to the
[16:51]hospital, check on the workers, and he would motivate them, work harder.
[16:55]This is for, you know, the people.
[16:59]This is a charity hospital.
[17:00]He would motivate them.
[17:00]He would check on things.
[17:03]He even developed some experience with the construction because he would go
[17:09]there every day.
[17:07]Who at age 85 does that?
[17:10]Who has the energy to go every single day and check on
[17:16]the orphanage and check on the hospital?
[17:17]He never retires.
[17:19]Never retires.
[17:20]Every single night he goes to the haram of Im Hussein.
[17:24]He leads Jama and he gives a lecture, a sermon in the
[17:30]haram of Imam Hussein.
[17:31]Yes.
[17:31]Last few months he did the surgery.
[17:33]He's not able to go.
[17:36]But up until the surgery, he would do that every single night.
[17:39]I don't know of a person in my lifetime.
[17:43]I don't know of a person who's given a speech every night
[17:49]of his life for 30 years.
[17:51]Every night.
[17:53]Every night.
[17:52]Even the best speakers, we we get tired.
[17:55]There's just, you know, a time that you want to take off.
[18:00]Every single night since 2003, he's been giving a sermon in the
[18:03]haram of Imam Hussein.
[18:05]And he says, "This keeps me alive.
[18:09]When I'm active, I feel better.
[18:11]I feel stronger." And this has contributed to his long life.
[18:14]Today in our society, we're being told otherwise.
[18:18]No, you've got to rest all this much.
[18:20]You have to sleep eight hours.
[18:21]If you don't sleep eight hours, you're going to die.
[18:26]You have to retire at, I don't know, age 65.
[18:27]My grandfather proves all of this is wrong.
[18:30]Yes, don't kill yourself.
[18:34]Don't overexhaust yourself, but be active.
[18:35]Stay active.
[18:36]Have a purpose.
[18:38]Have a goal.
[18:38]Do something in your life.
[18:41]You're 80.
[18:39]work on a project.
[18:42]This is good for your mental health.
[18:44]It's good for your physical health.
[18:46]And when anyone gives him advice, say it, don't put yourself through
[18:54]pain.
[18:55]You know what he says?
[18:57]You you'll like this one.
[18:57]He always says, he always says, "My comfort, my rest is in
[19:06]my torture." When I torture myself, figuratively speaking, meaning I put myself
[19:12]through diff difficulty and struggle, I feel better, that's when I sleep
[19:16]well, that's when I'm good, that's when I'm okay.
[19:20]So, he really does not retire.
[19:24]He's always doing something productive.
[19:26]And that increases your life, brothers and sisters.
[19:28]That puts baraka in your life.
[19:31]Another habit that I've seen in my grandfather that has kept him
[19:37]well, alhamdulillah, every single day on average he reads 6 to 8
[19:48]hours.
[19:47]6 to 8 hours.
[19:49]I remember since I was a child, since I was young, anytime
[19:54]I would go to his room, there's a book in his hand
[19:56]he's reading.
[19:57]You know what that does to your brain?
[20:00]It keeps your brain healthy and alive.
[20:03]That's why at 97, alhamdulillah, he has no dementia, you know, no
[20:09]Alzheimer's, none of these mental diseases.
[20:11]Why?
[20:12]One reason is because he keeps his mind always busy and active.
[20:17]When you're reading 6 hours a day, eight hours a day, you
[20:21]keep your cells active, you keep your neurons active, and this really
[20:26]has helped him stay this long.
[20:27]So having mental effort every day is important brothers and sisters.
[20:31]You you you're working, you come back home, read a book with
[20:37]your family, your children sleep, get a book, read a chapter.
[20:40]You know how healthy that is for your brain, for your mind.
[20:44]So this is something that I was able to beautifully see throughout
[20:49]his life.
[20:47]Even now at age 97, he reads a book and he always
[20:52]calls his book his sleeping pill because he has a fixed bedtime
[20:58]which is another habit by the way why he has a long
[21:00]life.
[21:01]Every night since I remember since I was a child at 10
[21:07]p.m.
[21:08]he goes into his bed at 10 p.m.
[21:09]He goes he opens the book he reads.
[21:11]He reads he reads until he falls asleep.
[21:13]He says that's my sleeping pill.
[21:14]I don't need any sleeping pill.
[21:16]He doesn't he never takes sleeping pills.
[21:18]You know sometimes some people there are some times in your life
[21:23]you're traveling you don't feel well whatever you can't sleep.
[21:26]His sleeping pill is in his book.
[21:28]So he sleeps at the same time every night.
[21:32]Let's say around 11 p.m.
[21:33]And then he wakes up like 3:00 a.m.
[21:37]He does some goes back to sleep wakes up for but he
[21:39]has a fixed bedtime.
[21:42]Our life today it's chaotic.
[21:43]One night I sleep at 11, one night three, one night two,
[21:48]one night four, one night 12.
[21:49]When you have a chaotic schedule, you keep surprising your body with
[21:54]a new schedule, right?
[21:54]Your body gets stressed.
[21:58]But once you try to have a fixed schedule, yes, sometimes emergency
[22:02]things happen, unexpected things happen.
[22:04]Yes.
[22:04]But try to have a fixed bedtime, brothers and sisters.
[22:10]This has been proven.
[22:10]I've seen a few people who are old and alhamdulillah they're healthy.
[22:16]They have a fixed bedtime.
[22:18]When you have a relatively fixed bedtime, you live longer, you're healthier.
[22:24]And he also takes a nap, you know, the that midday nap.
[22:30]Studies have shown that if you take even a short nap, 20
[22:33]minutes, 30 minutes, your brain refreshes, you get new energy and that
[22:38]keeps you healthier.
[22:41]And since I was young, I I remember he always has to
[22:44]have his midday nap, even if it's very brief.
[22:47]So these types of habits, they are really really important and effective
[22:54]in giving you a long life.
[22:56]Another habit that I see in my grandfather's life that has kept
[23:05]him, you know, alive until this age, he always remembers death and
[23:10]he always feels as if he's dying.
[23:15]Meaning he has no hope in this world.
[23:17]The last 20 years, literally the last 20, anyone who knows him
[23:20]can testify to this.
[23:23]the last 20 years he keeps saying you know it might be
[23:26]my last year it might be my last time meeting you so
[23:30]keep me in your duas every single day he thinks of death
[23:32]he thinks that he could seriously leave this dunya any moment and
[23:38]he's been saying that for over 20 years and when you remember
[23:43]death you get closer to Allahh and Allah puts baraka in your
[23:47]life he teaches us how to be prepared for death He's always
[23:52]prepared for death.
[23:55]He longs for death.
[23:55]He asks Allah subhana wa ta'ala to take him back to him.
[24:02]Especially in shahada.
[24:02]He asks Allah subhana t for martyrdom.
[24:04]And a few times he almost got martyed.
[24:07]20 years ago he finished his sermon in the haram of Imam
[24:13]Hussein in Kbala.
[24:15]He was going back home.
[24:16]Armed gunmen came.
[24:16]They shot him.
[24:18]They shot his hand.
[24:21]They shot his legs.
[24:21]He almost died.
[24:23]Subhan Allah.
[24:22]You know that handle in the car that you hold?
[24:26]He was holding the handle.
[24:27]The bullet was coming to his face.
[24:30]But because of his hand in that moment, Allah protected him.
[24:35]The bullet basically smashed the bones of his hand until now he
[24:38]has pain in his hand.
[24:42]It smashed the bone of his hand.
[24:43]But Allahh protected him.
[24:44]Many times throughout his life, he was imprisoned in Iraq.
[24:49]In some other countries he there were multiple assassination attempts but Allah
[24:54]subhana wa ta'ala kept him alive.
[24:57]He always thinks of death in a positive way.
[25:00]Not someone who's suicidal and depressed.
[25:01]No, someone who looks at death positively.
[25:05]He constantly thinks about it.
[25:06]Rarely have I seen someone in my life who thinks of death
[25:11]as much as he does, who mentions death as much as he
[25:14]does.
[25:14]And this really prolongs your life.
[25:17]Another habit that I'd like to share with you that I see
[25:21]in the life of my grandfather, he is one of those unique
[25:28]people that I've seen who always keeps ties with his family members.
[25:32]He never cuts off anyone.
[25:36]Even if some of his relatives would give him a hard time,
[25:42]he would never cut any of them off.
[25:44]In one hadith is narrates this from imamad says we were not
[25:54]aware of anything that prolongs your life and increases your age as
[26:01]much as as much as keeping ties with your family and relatives.
[26:06]Then the imam says someone is supposed to live only for another
[26:11]three years because of Allah extends that by 30 and you live
[26:20]33 years to the opposite.
[26:22]Someone is supposed to live 33 years from now.
[26:26]They cut ties with their family members.
[26:26]Allah shortens it to three.
[26:29]You lose 30 years because you cut ties with your family members.
[26:33]Throughout his life, my grandfather always made his best to contact his
[26:39]relatives to send them assistance if they needed assistance.
[26:43]If sometimes some of them would give him a hard time, you
[26:46]know, sometimes there are relatives, you know, they just troublemakers, they backbite,
[26:52]they create fna, never would he backbite.
[26:54]Not one day did we sit with him and he would say,
[26:56]"Oh this cousin of mine, this person of mine, this relative of
[27:01]mine, you know, he does this, he does that." Never.
[27:02]He never would backbite them.
[27:06]He would always be positive.
[27:07]And even those who would give him a hard time, even those
[27:10]who would give him a hard time, he would give them regularly,
[27:14]he would give them assistance on Eid.
[27:16]He'd give them a gift throughout the year.
[27:19]He would give them gifts that prolongs your life.
[27:21]So if you're looking for Allah to prolong your life, I know
[27:26]there are these means stay healthy, your diet, your gym, but believe
[27:30]me is stronger than all of this.
[27:33]It's more effective than any of these means because now you're under
[27:37]the protection of Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala.
[27:40]Be able to forgive your family members, not just your, you know,
[27:47]friends, but your family members as well.
[27:49]And Allahh has really given my grandfather the capacity to forgive.
[27:53]I'll share this with you.
[27:54]You know, after the fall of Saddam, he went back to Iraq.
[27:58]So the Iraqi government at the time which was headed in that
[28:06]interim government by Ibraim Jaffari he sent him the file that the
[28:13]Iraqi intelligence had on him during the days of Saddam.
[28:17]You know the M ministry of intelligence they have a file especially
[28:21]if you're someone important or active or a speaker.
[28:25]So after the fall of Saddam, they got access to that file,
[28:28]a very thick file, like a thousand pages in it.
[28:31]So he sent it to my grandfather.
[28:34]He's like, "Here, this is your file.
[28:35]Look at it." So he would spend weeks looking at the file
[28:38]and see, you know, what was written against him, what they were
[28:44]planning against him.
[28:44]And then one day he shared with us something interesting.
[28:47]He said there is someone who comes in the haram and he
[28:56]prays behind me every night.
[28:57]In the files I see that he's one of the people who
[29:01]regularly would write reports against me.
[29:04]We told him jidu who is it.
[29:07]He's like no.
[29:07]You think I'm going to expose him?
[29:08]Never.
[29:09]Maybe he's repented.
[29:10]Maybe he was under pressure.
[29:12]Maybe they threatened him.
[29:13]He started making excuses for him.
[29:15]Even though those reports could get you killed during the time of
[29:21]Saddam and indeed there was a death sentence issued against my grandfather
[29:25]but subhan Allah with the blessings of Allah he fled Iraq within
[29:28]a night.
[29:29]The next day he went to Kuwait.
[29:31]The next day at noon the death sentence came.
[29:34]The death sentence came.
[29:36]The governor of Kbalah his name was Shabib Maliki.
[29:39]He was a bathi but he was a moderate bai not one
[29:44]of those bloody baisies.
[29:43]So, one night he summons my grandfather.
[29:46]He tells him, "Come." At 10 p.m.
[29:48]they go, the guards, his uh home was right in front of
[29:54]the shrine of Abu Fbasam, right across from it.
[29:57]So, at night, they summon him.
[30:00]And during the Ba'ist time, if you get summoned at 10 p.m.,
[30:03]you're probably gone.
[30:06]It was serious.
[30:07]You probably may not see your family ever again.
[30:10]So, he goes to the governor.
[30:12]He kicks out the guards.
[30:14]He tells them, "Leave privately." He tells my grandfather, he tells him,
[30:19]"Say Mortal, I know we have our differences.
[30:22]You know, I'm a Ba'ist and you're critical of us.
[30:23]You're of a different path, but you're a good man.
[30:27]You're a man of faith.
[30:27]I respect you.
[30:28]I have advice.
[30:30]I shouldn't be doing this.
[30:31]I have advice for you.
[30:33]Leave." He told him, "Okay, let me see what I can do
[30:36]in the upcoming weeks or days.
[30:37]I'm going to see where I can go." He told him, "What
[30:41]are you talking about weeks or days?
[30:43]Leave.
[30:44]I'm [clears throat] telling you, leave.
[30:46]He's like, "Okay, give me a few days." He's like, "What do
[30:48]you mean a few days?
[30:48]Leave tonight because I've been told, my informants have told me a
[30:55]death sentence has been issued against you in Baghdad.
[30:59]It hasn't reached Kbala.
[30:59]If it reaches Kbala, I have no choice but to execute it
[31:04]because if I don't, I'll get in trouble with Saddam.
[31:06]So, don't put me in that situation.
[31:08]Please leave." Imagine 11:00 p.m.
[31:13]You go back.
[31:12]You wake up seven of your children.
[31:15]We have to leave right now.
[31:17]Like you're leaving for good.
[31:21]How difficult that is.
[31:21]He finds a car.
[31:23]They go into Kuwait.
[31:24]At noon time, alhamdulillah, they arrive the border.
[31:25]They enter Kuwait.
[31:28]That next day, noon time, the death sentence arrives from Kbalat to
[31:35]Baghdad.
[31:34]The governor says, "Yeah, go y Allah, see where he is.
[31:38]Go to his house and bring him." Now he knew my grandfather
[31:40]had escaped.
[31:42]He told them, "Yeah, go bring him." They stormed into his house.
[31:45]They couldn't find him.
[31:46]They searched for him everywhere.
[31:47]They couldn't find him.
[31:49]Allah subhana wa ta'ala really did protect him.
[31:53]All of this is partially because of he would always think of
[32:01]his relatives, of his family members.
[32:03]He would not cut ties with them.
[32:05]Even someone like that, as I mentioned, he's writing reports against you
[32:09]that could get you killed.
[32:10]He says, "I don't want to expose him.
[32:11]I've forgiven him." When you have that type of spirit, then Allah
[32:20]subhanahu wa ta'ala will truly put baraka in your life.
[32:25]He will put blessings in your life.
[32:27]So these are some habits that I wanted to share with you
[32:30]that I've seen from the life of my grandfather.
[32:33]And truly if you are seeking longevity, a long life in health
[32:37]inshallah in faith inshallah a prosperous life, a productive life, these are
[32:45]all some habits that we can all apply to our lives.
[32:49]And so we ask Allah subhana t to give us a long
[32:56]life in his obedience on his path.
[33:14]Brothers and sisters, these are the last days of the month of
[33:20]Ramadan.
[33:21]And we've gathered as believers to supplicate with one another.
[33:24]Allah has promised if 40 and we have more than 40.
[33:29]If you have 40, they supplicate to Allah.
[33:32]Allah will not say no to them.
[33:34]Brothers and sisters, we are going through difficult times.
[33:36]Our brothers and sisters around the world are suffering.
[33:40]Millions of our brothers and sisters now in Iran, in Lebanon, in
[33:46]other parts of the world, they're suffering.
[33:50]Every single minute you have shuada falling, martyrs falling.
[33:52]I'm sure last week you all saw the tragedy of the school
[33:57]children, the girls in Minab, Iran who were mercilessly killed.
[34:03]And until today, the shameless Trump administration has not apologized for that
[34:08]strike.
[34:08]Initially, they tried to blame it on Iran.
[34:11]Then they blamed it on some other country.
[34:13]Then all the indications were that they were responsible for it.
[34:19]over 150 girls die and you don't have the decency to even
[34:24]apologize for that.
[34:25]You know how many families are grieving right now in Lebanon and
[34:31]in Iran?
[34:31]This is the time when we pray, brothers and sisters.
[34:35]We pray Allah protects them.
[34:36]Those who have lost shuada and family members, we ask Allah to
[34:42]give them patience on these very difficult times.
[34:44]This is the month of Ramadan at the time ofar.
[34:48]You know, just a brother right now told me most of the
[34:51]strikes happening in Lebanon are at the time ofar.
[34:56]They chose the month of Ramadan and they're choosing the time ofar.
[35:01]Look at the hatred they have for the religion of Islam for
[35:04]many of these believers in you strike at the time oftar.
[35:09]You w you wage an illegal war.
[35:11]The United Nations, the first day when the US waged this war,
[35:14]the first day the United Nations said, "This is an illegal war."
[35:21]By all standards, this is a crime.
[35:22]But we don't lose hope, brothers and sisters.
[35:24]We resort to Allah.
[35:28]We resort to our dua.
[35:29]We ask Allah to these tyrants and these enemies.
[35:33]We ask Allah subhanahu wa ta'ala to bring an end to the
[35:37]aggression of the Zionists.
[35:37]We ask Allah subhanana wa ta'ala to support our brothers and sisters
[35:44]who are grieving, who've lost their loved ones.
[35:45]All those civilians being impacted.
[35:49]We ask Allah to protect them, to give them patience, and to
[35:53]give those who are injured, who are in the god knows how
[35:56]many, tens of thousands are injured right now.
[35:59]We ask Allah to bring them a speedy recovery.
[36:02]Raise your hand in dua.
[36:03]Let's recite this holy verse five times together.
[36:06]Everyone together.
[36:10]Amen.
[36:23]Amen.
[36:30]>> [clears throat] >> A man Allah.
[36:50]Ya Allah.
[36:52]Ya Allah.
[36:55]Ya Allah.
[36:58]Ya Allahoo.
[37:05]Allah.
[37:19]for Allah.
[37:50]Hussein.
