[0:01]foreign [Music] foreign brothers sisters and respected Scholars I would like to
[1:10]begin by first spending my piecing blessings on the family of the
[1:13]holy prophet and his progeny and to congratulate all of you here
[1:18]and the Imam of our time on the Blessed birth of these
[1:21]three amazing figures these three Nur that are in our history for
[1:32]surely these are three characters in which in the Quran when we
[1:38]read Allah we know that it applies to rasulullah but it also
[1:43]applies to these figures as well and what do we mean by
[1:46]Allah he says indeed in the messenger of Allah you have an
[1:54]excellent example so we want to make sure that during these nights
[1:57]where we see the walada of figures such with such respected figures
[2:01]such as these we want to take an understanding a deeper dive
[2:07]or a modern look into their lives to be able to use
[2:09]it and to be able to understand how we can use these
[2:14]characters and apply them into our everyday lives and one of the
[2:21]important discussions in which we can see their effects and how we
[2:24]want to use them is in one of the most fundamental aspects
[2:29]in our and this fundamental aspect is and tonight I want to
[2:37]look into this specific discussion of um for this is a discussion
[2:44]that sometimes it leads people away from Islam it is wrongly understood
[2:47]and sometimes wrongly applied for sometimes you think you're doing your if
[2:52]you're calling people to good or you are forbidding people from evil
[2:57]but what you're actually doing is making them away from religion or
[3:02]you make them move away from Allah so we want to look
[3:06]at how we can positively impact other people through um through enjoying
[3:11]good and forbidden evil and how not to do it negatively and
[3:15]first of all we want to begin by understanding that Islam in
[3:20]itself is a religion that has a very societal aspect a social
[3:25]aspect around it that Islam is a religion of community how Islam
[3:30]wants us to be in our society and be helpful to our
[3:35]society to enjoin good upon others to forbid others from doing evil
[3:37]and this is one of the main Concepts and the main philosophies
[3:40]behind why we have Salat al-jamara when we pray together towards one
[3:47]way towards the hebla there is a sense of community is very
[3:51]important in this aspect it is an obligation upon us to into
[3:59]effect and we can see the importance of this he says all
[4:04]of the righteous actions including Jihad in the way of Allah in
[4:07]relation to an active can be compared to water in one's mouth
[4:13]and water that is in the Deep oceans so through this one
[4:18]Hadith we can clearly understand the impact of um and why it
[4:21]is so important into our life so inshallah I want to dissect
[4:26]this topic more thoroughly and we look neat to look at it
[4:28]through five different dimensions inshallah we'll go through them tonight on the
[4:33]First Dimension we want to understand what are our manners when we
[4:36]call others to Islam to do good and enjoy evil on the
[4:41]second dimension how do we respond to those who say why don't
[4:46]you mind your own business on the third dimension we want to
[4:53]look at the conditions of doing um if we don't follow these
[4:57]conditions we will cause ourselves to be astray and others as well
[5:00]and on the fourth dimension how can we Implement and on the
[5:08]final Dimension we want to look at the relation to our imams
[5:12]and karbala so on the first hand when we discuss our manners
[5:15]in which we do we need to look at the Quran to
[5:22]see what the Quran says about about this and the Quran says
[5:32]in so what does this verse say invite all to the weight
[5:47]of your Lord with wisdom he's he puts two specific conditions here
[5:52]invite people to your lord through wisdom and invite them through kind
[5:56]advice and only debate them in the best manner so we want
[6:04]to debate only in the nicest manner in the Best Manners which
[6:10]make them interested in Islam and interest in Allah and like I
[6:17]said before when we do not do in the correct way if
[6:19]we do not use and we don't use our kind advice this
[6:25]is causes others to be led away from Islam and we've seen
[6:30]this many times when people try to tell others not to do
[6:33]something through anger many of you might have heard this for example
[6:36]you did this wallahi are going to jahannam we might have heard
[6:41]this before from someone right someone who for example prays five times
[6:45]a day he gives his clumps he gives us zakat but how
[6:49]does he call others to Islam when someone does something wrong he
[6:52]makes an error foreign because this leads others to be turned away
[7:04]from Islam these actions cause people to dislike Islam dislike Allah and
[7:09]this like but we want to be very very kind and when
[7:15]we do it in a very respectful and kind manner we should
[7:18]make sure not to be harsh or not to judge others we
[7:23]remember we should remember that we're all human beings and many of
[7:28]us tend to make mistakes we are not masoon so when someone
[7:30]makes a mistake our Nia our heart should be pure in the
[7:35]way we do um when we enjoined when you ask when you
[7:38]tell others to do good and we stop them from doing evil
[7:41]we should have a pure heart that we want to help them
[7:43]not in a way to embarrass them not to show them in
[7:48]a bad light maybe set someone aside and you tell you say
[7:51]this you call to them and this story we can see from
[7:57]as well as and this is a very very famous story call
[8:04]people to good we see that there's a story when they're at
[8:07]a young age they see an old man doing so he starts
[8:11]doing wudu and he's doing it in a incorrect manner when they
[8:15]see their he's doing in an incorrect manner they don't want to
[8:17]embarrass him they don't want him to see that these children know
[8:19]more than him about what he's doing so here's what they do
[8:24]they come to the old man and they say can you please
[8:29]tell us between us too which of our wudu is better so
[8:35]they both start doing wudu and they do it in the most
[8:40]perfect Manner and upon seeing this all the old man he realizes
[8:42]his mistake he realized that he has been doing wudu incorrect the
[8:48]whole time he says you both are correct and it is I
[8:51]who was wrong so just with this simple action they're able to
[8:54]call him to enjoy good to help him fix his through not
[9:00]shaming him or not embarrassing him or not telling him your will
[9:04]do is incorrect your prayers aren't going to be accepted but in
[9:07]a way that's the man the old man would be able to
[9:12]understand this topic so this is the first dimension of trying to
[9:16]be doing our America when we call people we want to have
[9:19]the best manner we want to have a very respectful Manner and
[9:23]the imams themselves when they call people we don't have any stories
[9:27]about rasulullah or the imams who called in a harsh manner who
[9:30]called with anger but rather it's in a very beautiful way that
[9:34]they call people and that was just one story and one anecdote
[9:37]of their life we can see many of these in the lives
[9:40]of the Allah on the second dimension how do we respond to
[9:49]those who tell us to mind our own business so it's a
[9:52]correct point when you try to tell someone okay let's go pray
[9:57]Salah or let's do this or don't do that someone might come
[10:00]up to us and they might say why are you being so
[10:04]nosy in our affairs why do you care so much about it
[10:08]mind your own business go on your own day and I will
[10:09]go on mine we need to Be watchful that it doesn't come
[10:12]to this first of all because when we call people in a
[10:16]kind manner it doesn't lead others to say something like this but
[10:19]if they do we need to understand how we need to respond
[10:24]to something like this and then important aspect we need to understand
[10:31]is how we return to how Islam is a religion that emphasis
[10:36]our emphasizes on Society on the community when Islam views all of
[10:43]mankind or a community like a boat if one person starts sinking
[10:47]the boat or they put in Holes of course everyone else's ship
[10:53]is gonna drown it's going to sink so we want to make
[10:56]sure that our society in itself doesn't go astray and this is
[11:01]by doing by simple things to only where you can do it
[11:03]you don't need to look at other people to how they're doing
[11:07]but on a personal aspect you want to make sure that when
[11:10]you call people you call it in a correct way so you
[11:14]can do what you to the best of your own abilities and
[11:18]if we act in such a way that we don't call people
[11:22]and we mind our own business it comes to a time where
[11:24]Society is ruled by Wicked acts by those around us do wrong
[11:30]actions and no one says anything about it if things are completely
[11:36]against Islam and we don't decide to do anything about it to
[11:40]our potential to what we can do then we haven't done enough
[11:43]because we didn't do American the righteous doers are less it's led
[11:48]someone to go astray it lets leads our brothers to go astray
[11:53]it leads a friend to go astray so to the best of
[11:55]your own capabilities you want to try to help them enjoy good
[11:59]and forbid evil in the correct manner in the kind and respectful
[12:04]manner anymore says it perfectly he says You must practice [Music] because
[12:11]if you do not you will be ruled upon by evil people
[12:15]and if the righteous ones among you will supplicate their supplications shall
[12:22]not be granted so in this aspect we can understand that if
[12:26]we don't do enough Society itself those around us it will cause
[12:32]ourselves to be corrupted those that are around us when they're corrupted
[12:36]it causes ourselves to go astray as well so this is a
[12:39]very personal aspect to this as well indeed the almighty has cursed
[12:48]those who have come before you firm neglecting thus there is a
[12:53]curse upon the ignorant Sinners of course we know that the ignorant
[12:56]Senators have are cursed upon but what he also says and the
[13:01]intelligent people who neglected those who knew about it those who had
[13:07]the knowledge and the wisdom but they chose not to do and
[13:12]there is a curse upon that so that is our second aspect
[13:17]and our second dimension that we want to look at and now
[13:23]we say okay so now I wish to do let's say you
[13:27]want to do it now what are the conditions for me to
[13:31]do um and this is the third dimension and the conditions are
[13:35]for the four main conditions that our Scholars have said about is
[13:40]one that you have the knowledge of Good and Evil and that
[13:43]you're already implementing it in your own life for the Quran says
[13:54]all you who believe why do you say something that you do
[13:58]not do if you're saying something that you're not trying to implement
[14:02]in your own life then you're being very hypocritical at its core
[14:05]you're not trying to do good for when you don't know enough
[14:10]or you don't have enough knowledge in this certain subject and you're
[14:14]doing wrong you this leads other people to go astray and the
[14:18]second condition of enjoying good and forbidding evil is that you know
[14:22]it proves beneficial so if you see someone in the street for
[14:25]example what are the odds of this being beneficial to them if
[14:32]these odds are close to none we don't want to do for
[14:34]them we waste our own time and we ask this person's time
[14:37]and maybe he might curse upon us after on his way leaving
[14:41]he might say something bad to us so we want to make
[14:43]sure that this is beneficial so for example if it's your friend
[14:49]if it's your brother it's your sister this is where you might
[14:51]find it beneficial to implement this a third condition is if it
[14:57]doesn't lead to your loss of wealth the loss of your health
[15:01]or loss of your honor if this is going to cause you
[15:06]to get hurt if this is going to cause you to lose
[15:09]money a large sum of money if this caused you to get
[15:15]embarrassed in front of many people it's not obligatory on this specific
[15:19]condition we want to make sure that it doesn't cause us to
[15:24]lose our health to lose our wealth to lose honor in front
[15:26]of people and the fourth the last condition is if a person
[15:34]has repented and they are seeking change if they if this person
[15:37]has realized Ya Allah I've done wrong I want to change and
[15:43]he's on his path to changing if this person has done wrong
[15:50]let's say he's drunk before he drunk alcohol but now he knows
[15:55]Ya Allah I've done wrong I want to change myself and you
[15:58]to come here to him in front of him and say yeah
[16:02]why'd you drink this is this is pointless it causes someone to
[16:08]be angered it's bringing this kind of topic towards someone who's already
[16:13]repented and always is already towards the right path it is incorrect
[16:17]for us to do um on this time so our four conditions
[16:22]our knowledge of Good and Evil proving beneficial no not causing the
[16:26]loss of your wealth your health or your honor and the fourth
[16:28]condition of course if this person has requested or this person has
[16:36]repented we should not do um and on the second last Dimension
[16:41]we want to look at how we want to do um because
[16:43]there's not specific one specific way to do it and we can
[16:47]see through the imam's lives that they have implemented it through different
[16:53]ways on the first level of show that you're displeased with your
[16:56]heart with your heart you want to show a Muslim brother show
[17:03]a friend show a relative that you do not like what they
[17:07]are doing when they do wrong you might frown you might be
[17:12]disappointed you might leave the premise in which something wrong is being
[17:16]done if you're friends for example or they decide to do something
[17:26]Haram you don't need to stay in that premise you can with
[17:28]your heart show your displeased with this action he says he represented
[17:35]some of his followers for neglecting he told them why he these
[17:43]people did not do nothing they neglected this calls upon him he
[17:47]said they say we tried to stop them we tried to restrain
[17:52]them but they did not listen to us the Imam says in
[17:55]response to this he says the messenger of Allah has said avoid
[17:58]their company and do not participate in their assemblies if you know
[18:02]that someone is doing wrong and that they will not change it's
[18:05]best for you to show you're unhappy with them and leave these
[18:11]people to leave the premise not to stay where something Haram is
[18:14]being done so this is the first level in which you want
[18:19]to try to call others to good and on a second higher
[18:21]level we want to use our words for the Quran says speak
[18:33]to him gently the Quran does say gently so perhaps he may
[18:40]be mindful of me and he might be fearful of My Punishment
[18:45]so when we speak in a very gentle tone we speak in
[18:47]a kind manner we can cause others to change for them to
[18:53]understand that what they're doing is wrong and to go towards good
[18:55]and this is the second level in which we want to do
[19:00]Amer Madoff and on the highest level in which we don't want
[19:03]to go to from the beginning but if we're forced to it
[19:07]is when we have to use our hands if we have to
[19:11]get physical if you see someone getting hurt you want to stop
[19:14]this wrong action from happening so this is where we want to
[19:19]use our hands on the final level and we can see this
[19:25]final level being shown and where in karbala so this goes to
[19:28]our final aspect our final Dimension that I want to discuss tonight
[19:33]and this Dimension is of that of it is of that of
[19:40]um it is the way that we can see in joining good
[19:42]and forbidden evil father when the Imam is going to karbala he
[19:49]says oh people don't you see that truth is being neglected truth
[19:53]is not being followed and no one is stopped from falsehood instead
[19:56]falsehood is being made customary don't you see that good deeds have
[20:00]been neglected and the poison of wrongdoings is assimilated into the human
[20:04]blood in such circumstances an honest person person should prefer death over
[20:10]such a life it's very straightforward in how he calls people and
[20:16]we see from Muhammad before he leaves from Mecca to go to
[20:21]karbala he gives this short uh Testament he writes this to his
[20:30]brother half brother Muhammad and he gives his reason he says I
[20:36]am not leaving I am leaving Medina not to create sedition not
[20:39]to create corruption Not to cause problems I'm leaving with the soul
[20:47]objecting of guiding the ummah of my grandfather the holy prophet I
[20:51]shall enjoin the good I shall do um and forbid the wrong
[20:56]I follow the footsteps of my grandfather and my father Ali Eminem
[21:02]if anyone wants to respond to my righteous call it is better
[21:04]in the eyes of God on the other hand if anyone has
[21:09]any objection I shall be patient and seek God's arbitration between me
[21:13]and the people for God is the best judge and this summarizes
[21:18]our discussion tonight our discussion how does he say it he says
[21:24]he wants to call people he goes to he's going to karabala
[21:26]for the sake of in joining good and forbidding evil if they
[21:32]do not listen he tries to do it in a kind manner
[21:33]but if they do not listen if they have any objection he
[21:39]shall be patient and seek Allah's habitation so we should always to
[21:43]end off our discussion our final Point here is that we should
[21:46]always try to do our model in the way that those has
[21:51]done those that are the best examples have done and we should
[21:55]do it in a very respectful and kind manner we should lead
[21:59]by our example and we should work together as a community in
[22:01]all aspects to do what is right and prevent what is wrong
[22:05]inshallah may Allah guide us among those who strive to enjoy good
[22:11]and forbid evil
