The Adhan, or the call to prayer is an integral tradition that's recited before the commencement of Muslim prayers. Sayed Mohammed Baqer Al-Qazwini examines the origins of Adhan, and how this beautiful act was initiated, in addition to the benefits and eloquence of its words.

Furthermore we learn about the additions and emissions that happened with the Adhan, and why the followers of the Ahlulbayt (a.s.) mention the name of Imam Ali (a.s.) in it.

[0:16]the name of the Almighty God the compassionate the merciful the one

[0:22]who has created everything in utmost perfection and may the peace and

[0:27]blessings of the Almighty God be upon his pure and beloved messenger

[0:34]the peak of his creation the symbol of humanity the holy prophet

[0:42]muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa honor and his immaculate progeny of the and

[0:48]in beit peace be upon them especially the leader of our time

[0:52]the awaited Saviour and Imam al-mahdi allahu ta'ala firaga may Allah haste

[1:01]in his reappearance and make us all amongst the sincere and dedicated

[1:05]servants Allah subhana WA Ta'ala states in the holy quran allah rahmanir

[1:11]rahim yeah you had Lavina i'm a new stage evil allahu allah

[1:16]rasool Dada come lemon your vehicle and this holy verse allah subhanaw

[1:25]taala states o you who believe when Allah and the messenger calls

[1:32]on you when allah subhanallah calls on you when the messenger calls

[1:38]on you then respond to their call heed their call because they

[1:43]are inviting you to that which gives you life lamahieu he come

[1:51]bare when Allah calls on us that gives us life so that

[1:58]Allah al aliy you love him illuminate your hearts and minds with

[2:02]a very loud Salah what Allah subhana WA Ta'ala has completed and

[2:11]perfected the religion of Islam for us when you examine and analyze

[2:19]the various dimensions of the religion of Islam you will see that

[2:24]the religion of Islam is truly complete from all aspects from a

[2:28]spiritual aspect from an educational aspect from a social aspect and even

[2:34]from an aesthetic aspect the aesthetic beauty that you find within the

[2:42]religion of Islam especially in some of the rituals is truly amazing

[2:48]for instance when we stand in Salah to pray it is recommended

[2:52]for us to stand next to each other without leaving any gaps

[3:00]some people ask why why is it that when I stand in

[3:02]Gemara I should not leave any gaps between me and the brother

[3:07]who is standing next to me or for the sisters the sisters

[3:11]standing next to them Allah subhana WA Ta'ala wants you as you're

[3:16]observing your Salah to be aesthetic and organized when you look at

[3:24]the lines of Prayer and everyone is standing right next to each

[3:28]other side by side without any gaps that look in itself is

[3:35]pleasant to the eye it shows you organization the beautiful aesthetics of

[3:40]the religion of Islam I tell you that for me one of

[3:46]the greatest scenes and sites that I've ever seen in my life

[3:49]was in Masjid al-haram when you go to the upper floor and

[3:55]you look down at the Kaaba and you see the pilgrims forming

[3:58]beautiful lines right next to each other praying to Allah to the

[4:06]cabin it's so aesthetically pleasing to the eye it's beautiful even the

[4:12]Salaf Jamaa you required to follow the prayer leader the Imam of

[4:17]the Salah knot before him not too much after him so you

[4:24]find this beautiful system within the religion of Islam now one of

[4:28]the beautiful and aesthetically pleasing rituals that Allah subhana WA Ta'ala has

[4:34]given us and the religion of Islam is the Adhan we call

[4:37]to prayer and then in arabic means an announcement the Adhan is

[4:44]a daily announcement that is inviting us to reconnect with allah subhanahu

[4:51]wa'ta'ala in our discussion tonight we will examine the oven first we'll

[4:55]examine the origin of it how did allah subhana wa ta'ala legislated

[5:00]for muslims then we'll examine some additions that were made or some

[5:05]omissions that were made to the event then we'll examine the philosophy

[5:13]of it the beautiful impact that it has on our lives and

[5:17]we'll examine some benefits of the Adhan we first by begin by

[5:24]examining the origin of this ad on this beautiful call to prayer

[5:27]that we have this call to prayer which interacts with our souls

[5:31]sometimes they Adan you will find it so interacting with your soul

[5:39]it's even mesmerizing to you it truly prepares you for the Salah

[5:43]the Salah that you offer after hearing the Adan and listening to

[5:47]the Adan is different than the prayer that you just jump into

[5:53]without the Adan the Adan truly prepares you for that spiritual experience

[5:57]with allah subhanaw taala what's the origin of this Adan how did

[6:02]it start in Muslim history you will find that when it comes

[6:07]to the origin of the Adan Sunnis and Shias have very different

[6:11]views let's examine the Sunni belief about the Adan as reported in

[6:17]many books such as Muslim Adam and hanbin such as at-tirmidhi Sunan

[6:26]Abu Dawood and a number of other books today if you ask

[6:29]a suddenly scholar how did the advance start this is the in

[6:32]response you get so you are told that the prophet sallallahu alayhi

[6:38]wa island when he migrated to Medina in that first year he

[6:41]consulted his companions he told them we get together every day for

[6:49]salat l-jamaa how do we announce to the people to know that

[6:52]the time for the salah has come so the Prophet consults his

[6:56]companions some of them suggested using bells like the Christians do at

[7:04]their churches some of them suggested some other methods but the Prophet

[7:08]was waiting for a better method then on that night after the

[7:12]Prophet had this discussion with his companions that same night one companion

[7:18]by the name of Abdullah ibn Zaid ibn Abdullah he sees a

[7:24]dream in his dream he sees a person who's wearing beautiful clothes

[7:30]and he is holding a bell you know like those bells you

[7:37]see in churches he's holding a bell abdullah bin zaid asks him

[7:41]can you sell this bell for me that person in his dream

[7:46]tells him why do you want this bell for what purpose what

[7:47]do you want to do with it he says I wanted to

[7:52]inform the Muslims of the time of Prayer I wanted to serve

[7:54]as the call to prayer he tells him I'll teach you something

[8:00]better and in his dream he teaches him the Adhan he tells

[8:03]him if you want to call Muslims to pray this is how

[8:08]you do that than say Allahu Akbar Allahu Akbar four times and

[8:13]then a shadow al Ilah and a lot of the end of

[8:14]the Adhan he gets up from his dream he goes and meets

[8:19]the prophet sallallahu alehiwassallaam be honest Allah I had this vision I

[8:23]had this dream what do you think the Prophet loved the idea

[8:26]he said yes perfect that's what we've been waiting for i authorize

[8:32]you to make this the call to prayer then he tells Abdullah

[8:36]bin zaid go to banal Balad has a more suitable voice tell

[8:41]him to say this call to prayer and that's how the first

[8:48]time in Islam people heard the Athan now these same narrations in

[8:52]sunni books tell us that allah rabbun allah table had the same

[8:55]vision but abdullah bin zaid he raised him to the prophet and

[9:03]he was the first to tell the Prophet so for 20 days

[9:08]Omar doesn't say anything he doesn't admit that he had seen that

[9:11]vision after 20 days he meets the prophet he tells me honest

[9:14]to Allah that same dream that abdullah bin zaid had I also

[9:21]had that dream and I heard the Athan in my dream the

[9:24]Prophet first becomes very happy he says you know all praises due

[9:29]to Allah thank God that you also saw this dream but Rahman

[9:31]why did you wait 20 days why didn't you tell me he

[9:36]said you know I felt embarrassed because i'm d'lai bin zaid he

[9:39]had already told you about that dream and it felt awkward embarrassing

[9:42]for me to come and say I saw the same dream this

[9:46]is how they advanced started according to many many Muslim schools of

[9:51]thought what is the position of an idol bait the amount abandon

[9:56]bait peace be upon them were asked how did the advance start

[9:58]is it true what these people say that abdullah bin zaid or

[10:03]some other companion he had a dream and that's how allah mandated

[10:07]that the imam alehissalaam became very disappointed and disturbed he says do

[10:14]you really believe in this allah subhanho wa taala would give us

[10:17]the Adhan they call to a prayer through the dream of a

[10:23]companion since when does God communicate religious rituals to us through the

[10:26]dreams of people that's impossible the religion of Allah is greater than

[10:33]it to be received or communicated through the dreams of some people

[10:37]some camp companions the Imams of any debates rejected this idea so

[10:41]how did we get the Adhan the Imams of Anna Bates made

[10:46]it very clear that's when the Prophet sallallahu aleyhi went on the

[11:22]sallam with the other prophets of god with the souls of the

[11:29]other prophets of god and jibra eel teaches the prophet the Adhan

[11:33]and one of the angels makes the call to prayer another hadith

[11:38]states this happened again in the fourth heaven when allah united his

[11:43]messenger prophet muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa honor with other prophets and he

[11:48]prayed and he led them in his sunnah jibra eel showed the

[11:52]Prophet to the Adan this is the adhan unless - Allah is

[11:58]not going to communicate it through a dream of a companion since

[12:01]when did God do that since when did the prophet sallallahu alayhi

[12:06]wa consult his companions about religious rituals how come we don't see

[12:11]the same thing when the Prophet was waiting for a new Qibla

[12:16]from Allah subhana WA Ta'ala the tablet of Muslims was north towards

[12:20]Jerusalem the Jews started marking the Muslims o you follow our of

[12:23]tibula you don't even have your own table and your religion and

[12:28]this this disturbed the Prophet and many Muslims do we see the

[14:12]the first two are clear changes that have been made to the

[14:17]Adhan first of all in the event there is a phrase that

[14:22]the followers of a debate state today around the world that other

[14:25]schools of thought don't see and that is how ya laughs carolallan

[14:33]no god but Allah and the prophets of Allah Allah is the

[17:10]Khalifa he omitted it from the Adhan that's one piece of evidence

[17:14]another piece of evidence is that al baiy happy who is a

[17:21]scholar and his book as soon and al-kubra he narrates a hadith

[17:25]from abdullah bin ahmad the son of a monolith on he says

[18:48]his philosophy but no one has the right to tamper with these

[18:55]rituals my dear brothers and sisters we take it as we receive

[18:58]it from the holy prophet muhammad sallallahu alayhi wa if at the

[19:01]time of the Prophet there was a phrase that was part of

[19:05]the Adhan we have no right to omit that these are our

[19:10]rituals determined by Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala so this was one change

[19:15]that was done to the other on let's examine a second change

[19:19]now why are they deleted haya ala al al-amin from the Adhan

[19:25]they added another phrase which is called the teeth web in arabic

[19:29]for the morning idan for Salah and fetch you see other schools

[19:36]of thought they add the following phrase a salade to say iran

[19:43]the Imams made it clear that this is a bitter innovation that

[27:33]the name of the Prophet is mentioned will mention Imam Ali bin

[27:37]Abi Talib will mention the family of the Prophet because other Muslims

[27:42]marginalized Imam Ali and the family of the Prophet they sidelined them

[27:51]on very firmly to the name of Ameer al-mumineen audience Allah that's

[27:55]one point the second point we have narrations from the Prophet sallallahu

[28:00]alayhi wa and the Imams of a debate that encourages whenever you

[28:04]mention the name of Allah and the name of the prophet mentioned

[28:07]the name of REM have you thought about his Sunnah one hadith

[28:11]from the prophets of Allah Allahu Allah he talks about the rewards

[28:14]of saying a shadow a la ilaha illallah then he talks about

[28:19]the rewards of saying ashhadu anna muhammadan rasulullah la manana then he

[28:28]talks about the reward of saying a shadow Analia when he Allah

[28:33]the one who says it Allah Subhan Allah Allah will forgive them

[28:36]their sins so this is an encouragement from the Prophet that whenever

[28:39]you hear my name mentioned the name of Ali ibn ABI Talib

[28:45]as well we have hadith from an imam sadiq ali salam in

[28:48]which the imam ali salam States whenever you bear witness to God

[28:55]that there is no god but him and whenever you bare witness

[28:58]that Prophet Muhammad SAW Allah for Allah he wanna is the messenger

[29:01]of god then always say after that a Leon amirul mumineen wali

[29:08]Allah this is a command so we're taking these general commands and

[29:13]we are implementing it in the Adhan so the Shahada for Imam

[29:16]Ali bin Abi Talib in the Adhan it's a recommended add-on to

[29:22]the Adhan it's an optional recommended add-on yes we recognize that it's

[29:28]not a necessary component of the Adhan but it's a recommended add-on

[29:32]now you may ask me but how do we have the right

[29:38]to add something even if it's mustahab or desired no scholar will

[29:42]all will argue with you that there are recommended add-ons that you

[29:46]can add to the other I'll give you a few examples when

[29:51]the more evidence as a shadow a la ilaha illaallah that's the

[29:55]necessary part of add-on that's the juzu after that can you say

[30:01]jalla jalaluhu can you say when the Marvin says a shadow Allah

[30:08]Allah and Allah I bear witness there is no god but Allah
