[0:05]audhu billahi min as-shaytan ar-rajim bismillah r-rahman r-rahim al-hamdu lillahi rabbil alameen
[0:16]wa sallahu allah sayidina muhammadin wa ala nabina Tajin la sala allah
[0:25]mohammed mohammed we continue our journey into the exploration of the role
[0:36]of the intellect the aachen how significant it is how the religion
[0:41]of god and the reward of god are both based on the
[0:49]level of intellect and how can we develop our intellect we continue
[0:54]our discussion of tradition one point one point twelve which is one
[1:01]of the longest traditions in the book of coffee it's a wonderful
[1:10]narration it's a wonderful narration by al imam al karim salawatullahi on
[1:19]e in which he talks to his student Hisham abdel hakim and
[1:32]he shows him practical ways to actually develop the intellect so we
[1:41]continue our journey into this amazing hadith and if you turn to
[1:47]page 73 we see that the Imam Ali in Salam is showing
[1:53]him ways to develop the intellect and the previous course we examined
[1:59]about five ways so far in which we can develop our intellect
[2:04]let's examine a sixth way yaa Hashem in Nanak unleash a in
[2:14]the leland waddell illa llah Kalitta Oh Hashem there is a guide
[2:23]for everything everything has a guide and the guide for the intellect
[2:31]is contemplation if you want access to your intellect and to develop
[2:37]the intellect one of the keys is contemplation to think contemplation and
[2:44]thinking is one of the most important acts of worship and the
[2:50]religion of Islam as the hadith states one hour of contemplation has
[2:56]more value than 70 units of prayer or 70 years of prayer
[3:05]according to one narration that's because if you pray for 70 years
[3:10]without contemplation without the use of the intellect without really knowing God
[3:16]and the system of God that prayer does not have much value
[3:24]but one hour of contemplation which allows you to see the secrets
[3:29]of God's system the glory of God's creation how to worship the
[3:34]Almighty God how to save yourself and achieve salvation that's very valuable
[3:39]Abu Dharr one of the great companions of the Holy Prophet peace
[3:48]be upon him and his family was truly a man of intellect
[3:50]he used in his intellect to achieve such a high status you
[3:57]remember abou that when he was a young man when he was
[4:00]a youth he had not such a good history he came from
[4:07]a tribe that was known to loot the caravans you know like
[4:11]those thieves that you find in the middle of the desert raiding
[4:18]caravans eluding them he came from that tribe and when he first
[4:22]heard the message of the Prophet he said to himself let me
[4:28]go and meet this man it he is saying the truth I'll
[4:33]listen to him maybe I'll accept his message if not I'll just
[4:37]kill him and save everyone from this big headache he went with
[4:44]the intention of potentially harming the Prophet yet when he found the
[4:51]Prophet and his amazing words and those words unlocked the barriers that
[4:57]had surrounded his intellect and he engaged in deep contemplation he became
[5:03]one of the best companions of the Prophet an imam in baccarat
[5:06]Eason I'm the fifth amount of alien bait he says a Buddha
[5:13]would worship God all day and most of his worship was too
[5:18]fickle most of his worship was contemplation most of his day he
[5:27]would engage in serious important contemplation thinking about his status in this
[5:33]life thinking about the temporary nature of this world thinking about the
[5:40]permanent Hereafter thinking about how to restrain his desires how to tame
[5:45]his soul and prepare it for the day of judgment so the
[5:53]Imam Mahdi's salam says one of the keys to unlocking the potential
[5:57]of your intellect is to engage in serious contemplation meditation serious critical
[6:04]thinking every person who possesses a high level of intellect you will
[6:11]find that an important part of their life was based on contemplation
[6:18]we have stories many stories from our great scholars and Moraga in
[6:23]which they have stated that the knowledge they've achieved the status they've
[6:31]achieved was more from contemplation the reading you read that's very important
[6:36]to because we need the knowledge we need the data right but
[6:39]then they would engage in serious contemplation so that's one of the
[6:44]key is to unlocking the potential of your intellect and ask yourself
[6:50]how much time do you spend the day seriously thinking about these
[6:55]issues engaging in serious contemplation it's difficult or requires concentration we're not
[7:03]used to it but that's how we unlock the potential of the
[7:08]intellect analyst panatela has endowed us with then the amon-ra sallam says
[7:13]after saying that contemplation guides you to the intellect what God you
[7:21]contemplation the amantani sallam says what daily note effect core assigned and
[7:28]the guide for contemplation is silence silence in the religion of Islam
[7:34]is highly encouraged highly praised and has a special status exercising silence
[7:40]one of the qualities of intellectual people people of the intellect are
[7:46]those who engage in silence frequently they're good listeners one of the
[7:56]qualities of true leaders are good listeners most people don't know how
[8:00]to listen yes we can hear but we don't listen even when
[8:05]we're engaging in a simple conversation right oftentimes we're just concerned about
[8:08]getting our points across proving that you're right what matters to you
[8:17]we're not really listening to the other side we're not really looking
[8:22]deep into their eyes into their soul to see the point they're
[8:25]trying to make or maybe the struggles and the challenges that they're
[8:30]sharing with us very few of us are good listeners but one
[8:37]of the qualities of people of the intellect of true leaders is
[8:41]that they have the ability to listen that's why some companies today
[8:47]when they're hiring someone for an important position one of the very
[8:53]important qualities that they're looking for is one not only someone who
[8:58]can been saying who knows how to talk who's got skills that's
[9:02]very good but they're also looking for listening skills is this person
[9:09]good at listening proper true genuine listening or no that's a very
[9:15]important quality they put multiple questions in one question to test whether
[9:24]you're listening or not so the Emiratis setup says one of the
[9:28]guides to the 2v2 contemplation is silence to actually listen to be
[9:38]a good listener that helps you to train yourself to contemplate to
[9:45]see the reality of things to be able to decipher good from
[9:49]bad not to be fooled by this life therefore you'll find in
[9:59]the religion of Islam being talkative you know as tempting as it
[10:03]is for many people being talkative is highly discouraged allah subhana wa
[10:10]ta'ala despises people who are talkative unless you're doing that for a
[10:14]good cause like you're giving a speech for example you're counseling you're
[10:18]helping someone that's different but just engaging in a lot of talk
[10:21]that is very negative in the religion of islam it comes with
[10:27]many negative consequences let me share a few consequences with you first
[10:32]of all people who tend to talk a lot because when you
[10:35]have the habit of talking a lot in reality you're looking for
[10:41]attention a lot of us look for attention that's human nature it's
[10:44]very normal for us to want attention now because you want attention
[10:49]you want to attract others to you you're talking and in the
[10:56]process of talking you will tend to exaggerate a lie to grab
[11:01]more attention to attract more listeners because if you're just talking about
[11:07]normal things you're not exaggerating you're just sticking to the facts it's
[11:13]not interesting sometimes right how do you make something interesting either by
[11:16]exaggerating or lying so the more we talk the more we exaggerate
[11:24]and the more we lie and these are sins so in the
[11:26]religion of Islam it's highly encouraged to keep it short don't have
[11:34]the habit of talking a lot that is one of the enemies
[11:36]of the intellect one of the soldiers of the intellect is silence
[11:43]and one of the enemies of the intellect is what being loquacious
[11:47]or talkative talking too much it's discouraged in the religion of Islam
[11:53]that's number one secondly a second consequence of talking a lot is
[11:59]that people who have the habit or nature of talking a lot
[12:04]they tend to reveal a lot of facts and secrets about themselves
[12:06]and they're not even aware of it you're talking and you're talking
[12:10]right and you have that habit or nature in reality you're revealing
[12:15]a lot about your own self that's not good remember not everyone
[12:20]in society wishes you well some people are jealous envious some people
[12:24]are your enemies some people are waiting by the second to bring
[12:28]you down so the more the more you reveal about yourself you
[12:32]tell others about yourself the more you're potentially endangering yourself and your
[12:39]family so it's always safer to talk less because then you'll give
[12:43]less information about yourself about your family about your secrets about sensitive
[12:48]aspects of about your life because a lot of times we're just
[12:52]not aware I don't remember people like to hear personal facts so
[12:58]when you want to attract attention a good way of attracting attention
[13:01]is what to reveal information about yourself but that's not good that
[13:08]almost always proves to be damaging maybe not today maybe not tomorrow
[13:13]maybe a year from now maybe five years down the line maybe
[13:18]ten years down the line we see this happening every day in
[13:21]society people have said things five years ago ten years ago now
[13:24]there are trouble now there you know experiencing a problem because of
[13:31]that so that's the second negative consequence the third negative consequence of
[13:37]talking a lot is that the more you talk naturally the more
[13:41]you the more you'll be gossiping backbiting accusing and all of these
[13:45]major sins in Islam that's why the hadith says the tongue is
[13:55]the key that unlocks all other sins this tongue it's a small
[14:00]organ right it's one of the smallest organs we have in the
[14:05]body yet it is the most organ that sins and hence interestingly
[14:08]scholars say Allah subhana WA Ta'ala has taken this time he has
[14:13]imprisoned it behind your teeth that look like prison bars right and
[14:21]then behind your lips seal it imprison it don't use it don't
[14:25]be so generous with your tongue and your words and your speech
[14:33]be very careful with every word that you utter in fact one
[14:36]hadith says every single day all of your body parts and organs
[14:43]they beg the tongue symbolically they speak to the tongue they say
[14:46]Oh tongue have mercy on us if you don't sin if you
[14:54]behave well we'll all be well today if you misbehave will all
[14:56]suffer and pay for the consequences this is an actual hadith so
[15:03]the Imam Ali Salaam in this hadith he says one of the
[15:05]guides to contemplation as silence so so far the Imam Ali said
[15:12]I'm in one beautiful small sentence he has shared with us two
[15:18]tips to develop the intellect one is contemplation in Arabic we call
[15:30]it tefik KO and the second silence in Arabic we call it's
[15:38]and also Sukkot what you'll find that sunt is more positive Sukkot
[15:47]is just general silence but slammed is a positive type of silence
[15:56]because not all silence is good right sometimes you have to speak
[15:59]the truth sometimes you have to say something slam doesn't want Muslims
[16:03]you know to be just silent people not saying anything no you
[16:07]have to voice your opinion you have to defend the truth and
[16:11]join the good forbid the evil establish good ties establish friendships that's
[16:16]all required but just be careful say only that which is necessary
[16:20]because if you're not chances are you're tripping and making mistakes violating
[16:26]other right the rights of others and violating your own self so
[16:30]we see that contemplation is key and the path to contemplation one
[16:35]path is silence no religion invites us for its followers to engage
[16:41]in contemplation like the religion of Islam there is this amazing emphasis
[16:48]on contemplation and the Holy Quran is a book that invites you
[16:56]to contemplate about pretty much everything about the universe the stars and
[17:00]the galaxies and how the universe was created about your own biology
[17:04]and how you were created even these stages of embryonic development the
[17:10]Quran tells its followers and readers to think about that past civilizations
[17:16]dictators the rise and fall of civilizations and empires the Holy Quran
[17:21]tells us think about that so about pretty much everything history science
[17:28]your society your family relationships all of that is something that you
[17:36]need to engage in contemplation so the Quran actually invites us to
[17:41]think and the religion of Islam gives us amazing freedom when it
[17:46]comes to thinking you have freedom to think the Holy Quran encourages
[17:54]thinking about every subject there's nothing you cannot think about and question
[18:01]the Holy Quran welcomes us to think about pretty much every topic
[18:09]now yes some thoughts while we are free to think but some
[18:14]thoughts can have damaging effects of course not all thoughts and all
[18:18]thinking and all contemplation is good you have negative complete contemplation negative
[18:25]thinking that's why the Holy Quran says in a bottle of oneness
[18:28]some of your thoughts and speculations they lead you to sin because
[18:34]when you develop negative thoughts you tend to act upon those thoughts
[18:40]what precedes our actions usually it's our thoughts first you have a
[18:44]thought then you act upon it that's a very good point a
[19:19]lot of the thoughts that we have they spring from our own
[19:23]ego from our own personal interests and later we'll kind of examine
[19:27]that as well how to distinguish between good thoughts and bad thoughts
[19:32]so yes when it comes to our thoughts the people of the
[19:37]intellect when they're engaging in serious contemplation they try to be objective
[19:43]to take their thoughts put them on a scale and judge whether
[19:47]these thoughts or good thoughts or bad thoughts are they based on
[19:54]the truth or their pay based on ego or my own personal
[19:56]interests or on falsehoods or on ignorant so yes that's a very
[20:01]good point that we have to be able to differentiate between good
[20:04]thoughts and bad thoughts because bad thoughts will lead to bad actions
[20:09]everybody in society who does bad actions it started with bad thoughts
[20:16]so bad thoughts will lead to bad actions and we have to
[20:19]be very careful with our thoughts now generally speaking allah subhanaw taala
[20:24]will not hold you accountable for thoughts if you don't act upon
[20:28]them as long as I don't act upon them allies merciful he'll
[20:34]forgive us even our bad thoughts as long as we don't act
[20:36]upon them but that's very hard whenever you have thoughts chances are
[20:39]you will act upon them you know there's a hadith from prophet
[20:47]s Ali's Salam he says in that hadith my brother Moses he
[20:51]used to tell his people don't sin you know like the ten
[20:58]commandments don't do them don't steal don't kill don't commit adultery and
[21:02]so on and so forth a sadist and I'm says I don't
[21:07]tell you don't sin that's a but I tell you try not
[21:15]to think of thing of sins try not to think of these
[21:20]things because thinking of those sins will lead you to those sins
[21:24]and we have this beautiful example of fire and smoke sins are
[21:28]like fire they burn when you commit a sin you're burning yourself
[21:33]and burning others and the last mount of toilet can punish us
[21:37]for sins however bad thoughts are like smoke they don't burn meaning
[21:43]God will not punish you for them if you don't act upon
[21:48]them but they're like smoke they pollute your mind right smoke does
[21:53]not burn smoke just pollutes the environment in the same way that
[22:01]smoke pollutes the environment negative thoughts bad thoughts pollute the mind and
[22:06]sometimes they can be so severe they could suffocate you right there's
[22:12]a lot of smoke around you you could suffocate and die so
[22:15]bad thoughts can do a lot of damage and we have to
[22:20]be careful what kind of thoughts were engaging in and if you
[22:23]train yourself to go through the process of contemplation you will learn
[22:28]how to expel negative thoughts from your mind and focus on thoughts
[22:35]that please Allah subhana WA Ta'ala this comes with practice and remember
[22:40]that allah subhanaw taala when he sees his servant really trying spending
[22:47]time to really contemplate for the sake of God for the sake
[22:51]of truth allah subhanaw taala will also help you the hadith says
[22:54]true knowledge lay sellin vachetta tal no true knowledge is not just
[23:04]by reading books reading books getting information yes that's an important way
[23:10]to achieve knowledge but the hadith says well I can ll maneuver
[23:14]on yoga for laughs it'll be minutia true knowledge is a light
[23:20]that allah subhanaw taala instills in the hearts of those whom he
[23:25]chooses so a lifespan asada also gives you guidance he will train
[23:28]you how to engage in proper contemplation when he sees that you're
[23:33]making the effort so contemplation is actually very very important it really
[23:42]protects you from falling into the dangers of this life then the
[23:48]Imam Ali Salaam at the end of this paragraph he says walk
[23:54]a far bigger Jalan enter kabamaru heeta and it is enough foolishness
[24:00]for someone to commit a sin that you've been prohibited from committing
[24:06]that's a type of foolishness because the one who uses his intellect
[24:11]knows that these sins are harmful these sins are damaging they damage
[24:20]you and they damage others yes there's a veil that does not
[24:24]allow us to see the damage instantly but the damage is done
[24:30]so a person of intellect once he knows that something is a
[24:35]sin this person will use his intellect to suppress his desires and
[24:40]to say no to that sit the Imam says the one who
[24:45]gives in to his desires and commits that sin this is an
[24:50]act of foolishness this person is not making use of his intellect
[24:56]then if we go to page 77 to continue this hadith we've
[25:01]mentioned this before but just to briefly summarize in this paragraph the
[25:07]imam ali salam says god has two pieces of evidence for you
[25:15]or against you one is the messengers the prophets and the imams
[25:21]room heaps sent we call them external pieces of evidence external haja
[25:29]external proofs Allah subhana WA Ta'ala uses the prophets messengers and Imams
[25:37]as proofs against us such that if we did the wrong we
[25:43]took the wrong path while having seen the path of the messengers
[25:47]that will be used as evidence and proof against us on the
[25:53]day of judgment to incriminate us a last panel today will say
[25:56]I sent you these proofs you did not take them so now
[26:01]you're liable now you're at fault this is the meaning of Hajin
[26:04]Hagia is proof for evidence that you use either for yourself or
[26:12]against yourself if you took that path then you're equipped with that
[26:16]proof on the day of judgment even if a last panel to
[26:18]Allah questions you you're safe you know that you took the right
[26:24]path that evidence that proof will help you so this is the
[26:27]external proof then the hadith says there's the internal proof which is
[26:31]the intellect the internal Hodja's the intellect that God has equipped you
[26:36]with God will use this intellect that he's given to the human
[26:40]being against the human being on the day of judgment for not
[26:46]using the intellect Allah will tell us what differentiates you from other
[26:51]creations from the animals physically you're not so different in fact many
[26:56]animals are stronger than you physically what is it that differentiates you
[27:00]it's the intellect and you did not use it and you have
[27:05]no excuse for not using it many people who do wrong they
[27:10]really don't have an excuse they know what they're doing is wrong
[27:13]but they simply don't care just like you know those people who
[27:17]smoke right they know it's bad yeah sometimes maybe if you corner
[27:20]them they'll come up with arguments and say yeah that's not that
[27:24]bad you know I know somebody who's been smoking for 80 years
[27:26]and he's healthier than me right you get these arguments sometimes or
[27:33]I remember once you know a guy who was smoking and there
[27:36]was a group who were trying to talk him out of it
[27:41]and you know they told him that if you smoke then every
[27:44]time you smoke you lose three minutes of your life he's like
[27:49]I know I know and the joy I get from smoking five
[27:52]minutes to my life so once you do the you know equation
[27:57]the addition and subscription I'm actually gaining two minutes right even if
[28:02]they come up with arguments like that they know it's bad they
[28:05]know it's bad it's clear to them yet they just simply don't
[28:11]care it's not important for them it's the same with the intellect
[28:15]people know what's right or wrong believe me most people know except
[28:19]someone who has a deficiency in their intellect a mental problem that's
[28:24]different somebody isolated in some Island who has no clue no knowledge
[28:28]that may be different but most people know exactly what's right and
[28:34]what's wrong but they just don't care they're just distracted by this
[28:38]life they're pulled by their temptations they want to justify their positions
[28:42]and stances so they will ignore the truth Allah says this hidden
[28:46]proof because the hadith says well I meant bad linen as for
[28:50]the hidden proof or evidence that's the intellect say hidden proof that
[28:57]our last panel Tata has equipped you with if you use that
[29:01]proof then you're protecting yourself if not Allah subhana WA Ta'ala will
[29:05]use this hidden proof which is an intellect against you on the
[29:08]day of judgement so therefore we have two proofs the internal ones
[29:14]and the external ones the internal one is the intellect the external
[29:18]one is the signs that God has sent us the prophets the
[29:20]Imams the Holy Quran The Book of God all of that is
[29:26]external proofs then if we turn to the following page on 79
[29:32]we see the imam ali said i'm giving us further steps practical
[29:36]steps to develop the internal to the intellect to safeguard the intellect
[29:44]and to remove those veils that block the intellect yah Hashanah en
[29:50]a la la la vie la la la la la la chakra
[29:54]beautiful Oh Hashem the person of intellect is the one who never
[30:03]is distracted from thanking God and being grateful to Allah even if
[30:11]what he is doing is halat the pleasures that he is engaged
[30:17]in are all halal and permissible but that never distracts him from
[30:22]being thankful to Allah one of the signs of the people of
[30:25]the intellect is that they're constantly thanking the Almighty God for his
[30:30]blessings not only on their tongue but in their heart and through
[30:38]their actions their actions reveal that they are thankful to Allah their
[30:44]heart is always in a thankful state first of all when you
[30:48]are thankful to Allah you're constantly reminding yourself look don't be arrogant
[30:54]I did not achieve what I achieved through my own personal efforts
[30:58]it was through allah subhana wa ta'ala this helps you be humble
[31:03]and we said before one of the paths to becoming a person
[31:06]of intellect is to be humble to humble yourself because people have
[31:10]humbleness they're willing to accept the truth thankfulness humbles you it doesn't
[31:19]allow you to create claim credit for everything everything belongs to Allah
[31:24]Spano Tana it really instills that amazing humbleness in your heart number
[31:30]two when you're thankful to God and you're constantly thanking Allah Spano
[31:36]Tana you're much less likely to sin deviate and abuse your intellect
[31:45]let me give you an example let's say you just thanked Allah
[31:49]Spano to Allah for giving you your eyes and your eyesight remember
[31:53]there are fifty sixty million people around the world who are blind
[31:57]5060 million right that's a lot I could have been one of
[32:04]them when you thank God for the blessing of the eye of
[32:10]sight will you use this sight an hour later two hours later
[32:14]that day to send very unlikely when you've just thanked God for
[32:20]this blessing it is less likely that you will use this blessing
[32:27]against him because then you've internalized this concept in your mind that
[32:32]I have this blessing from God right and I just thanked him
[32:34]is it befitting now for me is it appropriate for me to
[32:39]use the very blessing that he is giving me he's given me
[32:42]to sin to disobey Him the people of the intellect through constant
[32:49]thankfulness they keep themselves in check they make sure that they used
[32:55]the gifts that allah subhanaw taala has given them for his path
[32:59]for his obedience and that's extremely important so we see that another
[33:06]tip that the imam and in salam gives us is thankfulness but
[33:12]most people they're not thankful as the quran says what allele or
[33:22]manera body and shakur very few people are truly thankful to allah
[33:29]subhanahu wata'ala so the artist the person of the intellect he will
[33:32]not allow this life the temptations of this life even if they're
[33:36]Halong the pleasures of this life to distract him from thanking Allah
[33:40]subhana WA Ta'ala so if I want to develop my intellect one
[33:45]of the items I have to put in my daily schedule to
[33:47]constantly thank God develop a habit where you're constantly thanking God believe
[33:54]me this will help you stay away from sins from evil habits
[34:00]from wasting time and it will help you significantly to use the
[34:05]resources that you have the blessings that you have to obey allah
[34:10]subhanho to Allah and to prepare yourself for the ocula it's a
[34:15]very powerful way and remember that whenever you're thankful to allah spano
[34:20]to allah allah subhana WA Ta'ala will not only elevate your status
[34:24]but he'll give you more land Shekhar - lazy Danakil Allah subhanAllah
[34:28]Allah says in the Holy Quran if you're grateful and thankful I'll
[34:32]give you more one hadith says protect leash your Nana's your blessings
[34:43]with shook because the hadith says the blessings of God they tend
[34:50]to run away that's their nature right they escape so you need
[34:54]to put them on a leash to keep them around you what
[34:59]is that leash shook to thank the Almighty God being thankful to
[35:02]Allah that is a great way to keep those blessings and have
[35:09]Allah spano to honor increase them and always remember that whenever you
[35:15]thank God you can never do justice to the blessings that he's
[35:20]given you he can never pay God back and Arafah imam hussain
[35:26]hani salaam he says o allah if you give me an eternal
[35:30]life an eternal life millions billions of years and I used that
[35:38]entire life to thank you for one blessing that you've given me
[35:43]I cannot thank you for that blessing not even one not even
[35:50]one of those blessings the hadith says if you recognize this that
[35:54]no matter how much you thank God you can never really thank
[35:58]you and do justice to what he's given you then you've actually
[36:03]done justice to allah subhanho wa taala then you've observed that right
[36:11]if you recognize in your heart that i can never thank god
[36:15]no matter how much I try and do I can never pay
[36:19]him back for a single number if you recognize that and admit
[36:22]that and if you've internalized that Allah says I consider you as
[36:27]if you've really thanked me and you've done justice to me and
[36:32]that's from the rock mobile app a note on one beautiful way
[36:35]of thanking the Almighty God is through said Judah to shook some
[36:40]of you have heard about it the prostration of thankfulness you can
[36:45]do it anytime but the best times are right after your obligatory
[36:50]prayers where you going to see Jude and you thank allah subhanahu
[36:57]wata'ala the sajda to Shakur has very very high significance one hadith
[37:02]states from the Imam and it's Allah when someone does such that
[37:06]to sugar goes into sujood and says chakra nila a number of
[37:12]times three times or nine times is highly recommended Allah subhana WA
[37:19]Ta'ala tells the angels what should I give this person they say
[37:24]oh Allah forgive his sins Allah says no more that's a given
[37:28]I'll forgive his sins reward him of course I'll reward him more
[37:34]I will not take him to paradise of course I'll take him
[37:37]to paradise more they say o Allah you tell us what will
[37:42]you give him the hadith says that Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala will
[37:47]tell the servant if he's done such that to Shakur just as
[37:54]you have thanked me I will personally thank you and when the
[37:59]king of the universe personally thanks you no one can describe to
[38:04]you what that thanked will be and what form it will come
[38:10]what blessings that will carry in this world and on the day
[38:14]of judgment Allah says I will personally thank him that's truly amazing
[38:18]what opilio ilayhi before my last panel Tata says I will go
[38:25]towards him you know we go towards Allah right when you worship
[38:29]God you repent you're going towards Allah the hadith says when you
[38:33]are thankful to god allah subhanho to anna comes to you the
[38:40]king of the universe who doesn't need us he doesn't need anything
[38:45]but he's so generous he's so merciful he will come to you
[38:51]what we hear are emitting and I will personally show him my
[38:55]mercy so one of the keys that we have to develop the
[39:02]intellect protect the intellect unlock the potential of the intellect is what
[39:09]thankfulness that's why the Imam Mahdi's Iran says in Aladdin the true
[39:14]person of intellect and let Elias Valhalla do chakra he who employs
[39:20]his intellect is never distracted from giving thanks by the things that
[39:25]are lawful he never is distracted that's the first part what's the
[39:31]second part voila yesterday bull Haram Oh Sabra and the Haram the
[39:38]sins the prohibited desires they never overwhelmed his patience once you are
[39:46]a person of intellect and you've taken the steps that we've mentioned
[39:50]and one of them is to be thankful then you will not
[39:57]be overwhelmed by your desires many people ask this question they're trying
[40:01]to be good they're trying to change but it's hard they keep
[40:05]falling they come and say I'm trying but then suddenly after a
[40:11]few days I realized that I fell to my desires I lost
[40:16]that status that interest in worshipping God I lost it it is
[40:25]these desires that overwhelm me why because we have not taken these
[40:30]steps to develop the intellect the steps that we've previously discussed and
[40:35]the steps that were discussing today this is a comprehensive program once
[40:41]a person implements this program this person will be a person of
[40:46]the intellect and then you're empowered to use your intellect to always
[40:50]rein in your desires to tame your desires so a person of
[40:59]intellect never allows his desires to overwhelm his patients he's stronger than
[41:06]his desires he has that patience and one hadith states there's nothing
[41:12]more beloved to God when he sees a person being drawn by
[41:19]his desires pulled by his desires but he has patience and he
[41:23]says no the hadith says this instant is so valuable in the
[41:30]eyes of God it's more valuable than some other acts of worship
[41:35]then the fasting then the Hajj then the prayers this this moment
[41:39]is so valuable in the eyes of God when you've remained patient
[41:45]and you said no to your desire when you were being pulled
[41:48]by that desire and the hadith says then and there Allah spano
[41:53]to Allah will compensate you because you let go of a desire
[41:58]then and there Allah will compensate you and the first way in
[42:03]which Allah Spano to Allah will compensate you he will give you
[42:07]the taste of Iman you'll taste the sweetness of faith the agent
[42:12]hallouwe tell even that's something many people are denied from experiencing to
[42:18]taste the sweetness of faith one criterion for tasting the sweetness of
[42:24]faith is to not allow a sin to overwhelm your patience and
[42:30]to say no to it and to let go of so these
[42:35]are some of the signs of the intellect that the Imam Mahdi's
[42:39]salam is examining let's go to page 80 any questions about this
[42:45]so far before we go to page 80 on page 80 the
[42:50]imam ali salam continues and he mentions three important points regarding the
[42:57]intellect yaja Xiong men Xalapa Salathe Allah Allah anima anna anna had
[43:03]me ugly the imam in this hadith is explaining that there are
[43:07]three ways which destroy the intellect we're talking about developing the intellect
[43:14]right there are some acts some habits some ways that destroy the
[43:19]intellect o rashaam if a man releases three traits upon three it
[43:25]is as though he has aided the destruction of his own intellect
[43:29]and this is something many of us engage in daily number one
[43:33]man avila maneuver at effect Cory bitterly Emily we said one of
[43:39]the soldiers of the intellect is what tefik cool right contemplation contemplate
[43:48]contemplation illuminates your mind and heart it's a light that it gives
[43:54]you to see without contemplation the world is dark it's as if
[44:00]I'm blind I can't see what's out of me contemplation gives you
[44:04]that light to see well there is something that takes away this
[44:13]light you illuminate your heart and mind with contemplation but then something
[44:17]comes along and destroys it what is it Lululemon having long hopes
[44:25]or as we see in another translation far-fetched hopes when one hadith
[44:35]Imam Ali bin Abi Talib Ali's salaam says one of the things
[44:42]that I'm most concerned about for this Ummah is Buddha lemon is
[44:47]to have very very long hopes having long hopes means that you're
[44:52]so fixed on this life it's as if this life will continue
[44:59]for eternity and you disregard the ocula it's good to plan there's
[45:04]a difference between planning for the future and being wise and between
[45:07]having long hopes in this life you just have so much hope
[45:14]in this life so much hope and the pleasures of this life
[45:17]and the positions of this life and the status of this life
[45:24]this takes away that light and your heart this ruins that light
[45:28]which you've lit through contemplation the Imam says you will destroy your
[45:34]intellect through long hopes far Fetchit hopes which are false hopes don't
[45:37]have too much too much hope in the like you know some
[45:43]people they sit and they plan for their future they plan everything
[45:47]how they want to enjoy their lives in the future how much
[45:52]money they want to make how they want to you know every
[45:54]vacation they want to go to okay it's okay to have fun
[45:58]in this life every once in a while occasionally but don't have
[46:02]too much hope some people they live in their own imagination 20
[46:07]years from now I'll have the status in my society right everyone
[46:09]will look up to me everyone this everyone will talk about me
[46:13]and my status and my achievements and my success and my wealth
[46:19]and so on and so forth we all have that it's built
[46:23]in because Allah wants to test us this is called food and
[46:26]Emin having long hopes a person of intellect while he plans well
[46:31]he calculates properly but he's never taken over by these false far-fetched
[46:37]hopes that's why the imam ali said i'm in one hadith he
[46:45]says live as if you'll die tomorrow don't have false hopes because
[46:49]a lot of the sins that we commit are based on these
[46:55]false hopes that we'll live 20 30 50 70 years and this
[47:00]is how we're going to live a lot of the Haram income
[47:02]for example that me people make the unlawful sources of income that
[47:06]people used to make money a lot of it is based on
[47:11]false hopes if he really believed that he could leave tomorrow he
[47:15]could depart this life in a week next month he would not
[47:21]take that haram route that unlawful income he would not go after
[47:24]it but the reason why we go after unlawful income as an
[47:29]example and in the process we violate the rights of others is
[47:32]because we have this false hope so this is the first thing
[47:40]that the imam mahdi his salaam mentions if he obscures the light
[47:45]of contemplation with far-fetched hopes this is destructive to the intellect train
[47:51]yourself as much as you can too dispel these far-fetched hopes always
[47:59]believe that you could leave any minute this is serious just like
[48:05]others left I can leave to see we all know this this
[48:07]is not something that we don't know we all know this who
[48:12]doesn't know this who thinks he's gonna stay here for eternity but
[48:14]our actions don't reveal that our actions say otherwise we all know
[48:20]theoretically we're gonna leave what our actions reveal that we're not acting
[48:28]on this knowledge so we need to constantly remind ourselves and to
[48:33]expel these hopes these false hopes far-fetched hopes so that's the first
[48:40]item that the imam mahdi said i'm mentions over here the second
[48:45]one huama hapara if a Hekmati he before Lully Kalama and he
[48:50]expunges kicks out wondrous wisdom with excessive talk we've talked about talking
[48:57]and being talkative the Imam says when you become talkative you expel
[49:01]the wisdom from your intellect and that destroys your intellect so this
[49:10]is actually a continuation of what the imam ali sanam said when
[49:13]he talked about contemplation and the path to contemplation the guide to
[49:20]contemplation is what silence the imam is just telling us here that
[49:24]being talkative unnecessary talk faloona Kalama unnecessary talk this destroys the intellect
[49:32]it's one of those things that will destroy a person's intellect we've
[49:37]talked about that what's the third one well opt for a new
[49:42]Arab bra t he be Shahada in Ephesus and he extinguishes his
[49:47]willingness to learn from life's lessons with his carnal desires our animalistic
[49:53]materialistic desires why is it that we don't learn many people you'll
[49:59]see them falling into the same sins into the same mistakes why
[50:04]because of these carnal desires these animalistic desires that takes away our
[50:12]wisdom from learning from our experiences so see these are three that
[50:16]the Imam Mahdi's Saddam mentions which destroyed the until like tense you
[50:19]see the Imam Ali said I'm saying then it is as though
[50:23]he has aided his corners soul in destroying his own intellect and
[50:28]he who destroys his own intellect has ruined this world and the
[50:33]hereafter so it's very important that we don't destroy the intellect that
[50:40]allah subhanahu wa'ta'ala has given us and we have a number of
[50:45]hadith you know about these about silence and you know being talkative
[50:50]about the first one through the m/l having long hopes I'll share
[50:58]with you one hadith here from the Holy Prophet Muhammad sallallahu alayhi
[51:04]wa in this hadith the Prophet says if you see a believer
[51:10]who maintains silence stay close to him for he shall emanate wisdom
[51:16]such a believer will give you wisdom even though from the outside
[51:22]this person seems silent right it's not talking much but this person
[51:27]is actually giving you wisdom and another part of the hadith we'll
[51:33]examine one of the traits of the intellectual people when everyone is
[51:39]silent and they don't know the truth and where the truth is
[51:44]then they speak so it's not like they're always silent they speak
[51:48]but generally speaking one of their qualities is that they are silent
[51:53]let's end with this section 19 of the hadith the imam ali
[52:02]salam says yeah Hashanah a subbro idol wada a lama to do
[52:06]what Allah oh hey Sean do you want me to tell you
[52:11]one sign that your intellect is strong it's not a weak intellect
[52:19]what is that sign to endure solitude loneliness solitude if you have
[52:27]the capacity to endure loneliness and solitude that is an indication of
[52:36]a strong intellect because people who cannot endure solitude they have a
[52:39]weakness often times they will compromise their religion to avoid solitude to
[52:46]go with the flow to be around those people whom they want
[52:53]to be around to fit in right the Imam says tests yourself
[52:57]do you have the patience to endure solitude if your friends abandoned
[53:04]you because of the truth and religion your society abandoned you do
[53:09]you have that patience to endure solitude or no that's a sign
[53:17]of a strong intellect that you have a powerful intellect so we
[53:23]see that in this hadith the Imam Hani Salaam is telling us
[53:32]that naturally in this life you're surrounded with people who are materialistic
[53:38]who are all about this life temptations of this life sometimes you
[53:41]have to cut off yourself from these people it's not easy not
[53:44]everyone who is around you is good not everyone that you spend
[53:51]time with has positive influence on you a believer is one who's
[53:54]willing to make that sacrifice that I will cut myself off from
[54:02]this negative influence but then yes I have to endure some level
[54:06]of solitude can I handle that solitude or no a lot of
[54:09]people can and that scares them that solitude scares them there are
[54:18]so many people in the world and sometimes you hear about their
[54:22]stories they don't come out with the truth because of the fear
[54:24]of solitude some people for example in many parts of the Muslim
[54:30]world they know where the truth is it lies with the path
[54:32]of a debate but they have a status they could be a
[54:37]religious leader a leader of a mosque a leader of a party
[54:39]right if they come out with the truth and they embrace the
[54:46]truth they'll have to enter solitude they lose all of that they're
[54:50]not willing to make that sacrifice yes they will lie and fabricate
[54:56]yes to keep that position they know where the truth is but
[55:03]they'll fabricate to justify their position because they know they try to
[55:08]avoid that solitude they don't want that solitude and that's dangerous one
[55:12]of the signs of the intellect inspect yourself can I handle solitude
[55:16]or no for the sake of Allah and there's a beautiful hadith
[55:22]by Imam Ali ibn ABI Taleb alehissalaam he says never feel anxious
[55:29]or lonely or abandoned because very few people are working in the
[55:36]path of righteousness don't let that make you feel lonely because when
[55:41]you look at the world and those who are really going into
[55:46]the path of righteousness there very few that makes you feel lonely
[55:50]it's very natural one of the qualities of the believers is that
[55:53]they do have this loneliness and solitude don't let this scare you
[56:01]make you anxious or make you feel lonely this is actually a
[56:04]good sign that you're on the right path then the Iman alayhis-salam
[56:09]says the one who truly knows Allah subhana WA Ta'ala will cut
[56:17]himself off from this you know Mitch excessively materialistic aspect of this
[56:22]world and the people of the world people whose only concern in
[56:26]life is the world they will cut themselves off from that what
[56:30]are you about FEMA and Allah you only care about what Allah
[56:34]spano Ta'ala has for you and this is the sign of the
[56:36]people of the intellect Hakan allahu unser - washa your comfort in
[56:45]solitude will be allah subhanho wa taala that's what gives you comfort
[56:50]to know that Allah Spano - Allah is with you you know
[56:52]there's a beautiful hadith from an imam al-mahdi allah - allah forages
[57:01]the hadith says we know that the imam is lonely of course
[57:05]he's abandoned he's lonely there's all discussion on that but the imam
[57:10]ali salam says don't think that because the people have abandoned us
[57:15]than we're lonely because we have the truth and we have God
[57:21]how can we be lonely and that's the believer when you recognize
[57:25]that you have the truth you've got something so valuable you've got
[57:30]allah subhana wa ta'ala on your side how can you feel lonely
[57:35]even if your loved ones abandon you the world abandons you everyone
[57:39]betrays you you have who allah subhana wa ta'ala that gives you
[57:45]comfort so his company in times of solitude will be Allah Subhanahu
[57:50]WA Ta'ala and his wealth in times of poverty will be what
[57:54]unless upon Owatonna Allah will be the source of your wealth even
[58:01]in times of poverty one day one of the companions of an
[58:04]imam as-sadiq peninsula he was poor financially struggling we referred to this
[58:09]before he told the Imam or Imam I'm poor the Imam realized
[58:15]that this person is not well he's depressed he's down he told
[58:18]him I am poor the Imam and he said I'm told him
[58:23]are you were willing to sell your faith for 100 thousand golden
[58:27]coins he's like no I'm not willing to sell my faith even
[58:33]for that money the Imam says how dare you consider yourself poor
[58:36]when you own something so valuable you're not willing to sell it
[58:45]for 100 thousand golden coins that's true richness it has been mentioned
[58:52]that Othman sent money a lot of money to a Buddha the
[58:55]Buddha was poor he didn't have much earth man was very wealthy
[58:59]abu dawood constant the expose of man for some of the things
[59:02]he do so one of the ways in which earth man wanted
[59:06]to quiet abou the you know to stop him was to entice
[59:12]him with money once he sent a good amount of money with
[59:15]one of his messengers to a Buddha about that didn't take it
[59:21]that messenger when he looked at a booth out on his humble
[59:23]house and his clothing he told him look you're so poor why
[59:26]don't you just take it for God's sake just take it look
[59:31]at yourself you're so poor he says no with the Iman that
[59:35]I have and the will ayah that I have for Imam I'll
[59:37]even have you thought about his Salaam I am rich don't think
[59:42]I am poor on the outside I import so this is what
[59:44]this hadith is indicating that the people of their of the intellect
[59:51]their richness even in times of poverty will be Allah Subhanahu WA
[59:55]Ta'ala and Allah will be his honor when he lacks skin when
[59:58]you've got no tribe no family to support you then you have
[60:03]Allah Subhanahu WA Ta'ala misil Allahu Allah Muhammad while employ you being
[60:09]up by hearing
