[0:17]so we are in the fourth session on the and we did
[0:28]the Salah we did the s we did the Haj and today
[0:34]we are doing the zakat inshallah in the next session we will
[0:38]do the so the zakat and the they are two types of
[0:45]Islamic Financial expenses or obligations when it comes to finances so the
[0:51]zakat can you go to the next slide please the zakat is
[0:58]the alms the alms the tax so it is one of the
[1:03]it is one of the um Five Pillars that Islam is built
[1:05]on and it is also one of the one of the 10
[1:10]so there there are narrations when it comes to the pillars this
[1:14]is separate from the there are there are some narrations that say
[1:20]Islam the main obligations in Islam are Salah zakat Haj and that
[1:29]is one of them but it is also one of the 10
[1:30]and Allah subhah wa tala says in the Quran inah verse 103
[1:35]to 104 zakat is from the is is means to purify so
[1:48]when you when you Allah subhana wa tala says take money from
[1:53]them let them donate let them give sodak let them give charity
[1:58]and this is how it will purify them so Allah subh says
[2:11]and in another Hadith aith from says that the prayer may not
[2:20]be accepted from the worshipper who withholds zakat he says Allah the
[2:26]most high has decreed that you pay zakat the same way he
[2:28]has decreed that you pray your daily prayer so there are some
[2:31]Muslims they come and they look at the obligations as some are
[2:37]more important than others prayer is important fasting is important but is
[2:41]not important Z and are not important they're all obligations it's something
[2:47]that Allah subala expects from us and in a from IM he
[2:51]says that on the day of judgment Allah subhanahu wa taala shall
[2:57]resurrect some of the dead from their graves with their hands glued
[3:00]to their neck so much that they cannot move them and they
[3:06]will be taunted by the angels and then he say he says
[3:12]those were the ones who were meager and they did not give
[3:14]their zakat they are the ones who withheld the right of God
[3:19]to be taken from their property so they didn't give their zakat
[3:22]there's a portion of our wealth there's a portion of our money
[3:26]there's a portion of what we have it does not even belong
[3:32]to to us it does not even belong to us it it
[3:34]belongs to Allah subhana wa tala and to the poor and to
[3:39]the needy this is why Allah subhana says in the Quran in
[3:42]one verse a portion of my money does not even belong to
[3:50]me just like right now if a person in the United States
[3:55]fails to pay taxes what's the government going to do they're going
[3:58]to go and chase you run after you until you payum and
[4:02]they say that a portion of this money belongs to the government
[4:06]that's your living here you have benefits you have the streets you
[4:12]have the roads you have all of these things so a portion
[4:14]of that belongs to to the benefits that you're receiving similarly a
[4:19]portion of our money needs to go to the poor needs to
[4:24]go to those who are in need it needs to go to
[4:28]these projects in our community and this is is how a Muslim
[4:31]Community is built through the zakat through the and through the now
[4:38]when we talk about zakat there are can you go to the
[4:44]next slide please when we go to the when we talk about
[4:46]the zakat there's a general and specific meaning of zakat the general
[4:50]meaning of zakat is s any type of giving in the way
[4:58]of Allah this includes the I put money in a box this
[5:03]includes the for example on the day of we have to come
[5:08]and give this includes the this includes any types of any type
[5:14]of giving charity in the way of Allah sometimes Allah subhana tala
[5:17]just refers to it as zakat because it purifies you so this
[5:22]is the general meaning however there's a specific meaning to the word
[5:30]zakat so when Allah talks about the zakat and General those who
[5:35]uphold prayer and and and give zakat this is General but then
[5:39]sometimes it's talking about the specific meaning of zakat and there are
[5:44]two types of zakat that are specifically obligatory upon people and what
[5:55]are those what are those types of zakat you have the zakat
[5:58]that's given on the day of the zakat that's given on and
[6:03]you have the zakat that is given based on some of the
[6:09]things that you have for example if you have gold if you
[6:11]have silver if you have cattle if you have wheat we'll mention
[6:16]that so everyone knows the zakat that's given on the day of
[6:19]that's called Zak and then there is another zakat which we will
[6:23]explain so can we go to the next slide please Z Zak
[6:30]is the the zakat that is given on the day of when
[6:35]is that due it is due at the time of sunset on
[6:40]the eve of so the last day of Ramadan the last day
[6:46]of Ramadan after you um when you're breaking your fast or as
[6:49]soon as you break your fast or before that it's it's due
[6:55]upon the person who is B person who has gone through the
[6:58]age of puberty they where everything is they go to the age
[7:03]of everything is waj on them they are not they have to
[7:05]be sane remember we as we we talked about the as one
[7:10]of the conditions for all obligations and this person cannot be unconscious
[7:14]say the month of Ramadan came and I was in a coma
[7:19]the whole time then that does not apply this person needs to
[7:21]be aware this person needs to be alert of what is waj
[7:25]on them this person should not be poor if they are poor
[7:28]if they don't even have an income if they don't have the
[7:32]money then they are not required to give zakat they receive zakat
[7:35]so not poor and not a slave and it must be given
[7:41]on his behalf this person this person is the owner of the
[7:44]money they have money they give on their behalf and they give
[7:49]on the behalf of anyone in the family so who does this
[7:51]apply to this applies to the head of the household so if
[7:55]there's a head of the household the one that covers the expenses
[8:00]the one that works the one that pays the bills sometimes it's
[8:04]the father sometimes it's the mother different different different families have different
[8:09]circumstances whoever is the one who provides for the family this is
[8:14]Zak it is wag upon them to give zakat on behalf of
[8:21]themselves and on behalf of anyone in that family so say a
[8:27]father and then there's a wife and then there are three kids
[8:30]so that means this person has to give zakat on behalf of
[8:35]five people five people and this must be given in the morning
[8:39]on the day of and this is why Allah subhana says give
[8:46]zakat and then go and pray what what should be given how
[8:52]much is given a it's called one is about three kilograms of
[8:59]food and this is basically the staple food such as wheat barley
[9:03]dates raisins rice or something similar if I'm for example if I
[9:07]eat meat every day then I consider the meat the value of
[9:11]the meat if I can't afford eating meat every day then I
[9:13]consider something less dates are a little bit more expensive some things
[9:17]are a little bit cheaper some things are a little bit more
[9:21]expensive every year here for example in America they release the mosques
[9:24]they release a pricing for the local community last year I believe
[9:28]it was about $15 per person some people said 10 to around1
[9:34]to15 per person so if you have five people if you want
[9:39]to go with the 10 you you give $50 if you want
[9:40]to go with the 15 you give more so so this is
[9:45]it needs to be given on behalf of every person and it
[9:50]could be given in a monetary um monetary value instead as long
[9:53]as you give it to them for this person to go and
[9:57]they buy food with it you're giving them basically you're telling them
[10:00]I'm giving you this money so that you buy food so this
[10:05]is regarding Z this is the zakat that we all on the
[10:09]day it's waj upon every person the head of the household gives
[10:14]even for the younger even for the children they need the head
[10:17]of the household needs to give for them on the day of
[10:21]this is one day out of the Year any questions regarding okay
[10:25]now we'll go to the next slide and this is the annual
[10:30]zakat which is basically the zakat that is given for special items
[10:40]and things that a person may own now someone probably during our
[10:44]time for many of us this does not apply to us many
[10:49]of us this does not apply to us this is why we
[10:54]give instead but if this applies to you then you have to
[10:59]give this zakat and and you have to give thees so the
[11:02]annual zakat alms is given on the following things the two coins
[11:10]silver and gold minted coins it's basically the coins that are used
[11:16]for before the currency that people used to have they had DIN
[11:20]and Durham the dinar is the gold coin and the Durham is
[11:26]the silver coin so if someone has the din that means they
[11:29]actually own gold they actually own gold uh coins and they used
[11:36]to use that as a transaction so this is um this is
[11:39]one of them and then if you have crops so in the
[11:45]P right now how many of us have gold silver and gold
[11:49]coins probably not many people have silver and gold coins you have
[11:54]silver and gold coins are they are they like type of jewelry
[11:59]or are they you you actually buy and sell with them The
[12:04]Collector ones this does not apply unless unless it's it has it
[12:08]has a specific weight it might apply to it but we're talking
[12:13]for example this does not apply to Gold uh jewelry that a
[12:16]lady has for example maybe she has a whole kilogram a whole
[12:19]five pounds of of uh gold this this would not apply this
[12:26]only applies to the coins that people have and they use and
[12:29]as a transactional item okay so this is one only tah has
[12:36]silver go gold and silver coins no no one else has second
[12:40]if you have crops such as wheat barley dates and raisin how
[12:46]many of you have crops how many of you are farmers no
[12:52]one's a farmer here okay so um wheat barley dates and raisin
[12:59]and they call these the four so this is one third is
[13:08]if you have a camel camels or cattle like cow Buffalo sheep
[13:17]and goats if you have if you also have those then zakat
[13:20]would apply to those so this is the third item and the
[13:25]fourth item is revenue from trait in silver and gold coins only
[13:28]not cash or any other currency so if you're making trade with
[13:33]with um silver or gold coins say for example someone has a
[13:38]lot of those those collectible items and then they they trade with
[13:41]them they trade when the market is hot they come and they
[13:48]sell they buy this one um if the conditions apply for example
[13:51]the quantity of gold should not be less than so is a
[13:57]coin or a bullion it's a unit of weight equivalent to 4.68
[14:02]gram so if it's more than that or it should not be
[14:08]less than that the percentage is 2.5% for every three mthal increase
[14:13]thereafter the same percentage must be paid so every three mythal you
[14:17]go up you give 2.5% as for the silver the quantity should
[14:21]not be less than 100 and five myal the percentage due is
[14:27]2.5 for every 21 SCS thereafter the same percentage should be paid
[14:32]so these are the four times that zakat is given and we're
[14:37]not talking about Zak we're talking about the waj zakat on the
[14:44]silver and gold coins on the crops on the cattle and on
[14:47]the revenue from trade can we go to the next slide please
[14:51]okay so we said that if you have gold and silver coins
[14:58]you have to pay Z however there's a criteria one is that
[15:04]11 months have to pass leading to the 12th month while you
[15:07]have ownership of it so you have to have this for a
[15:12]while a year if you have it for less than a year
[15:17]it would not apply second the silver and the gold should be
[15:20]of the minted type used as a means of monetary exchange so
[15:26]that means jewelry is Exempted I have probably I have silver in
[15:29]my house I have silverware in my house um but it's not
[15:34]the coin or I have jewelry there's necklaces and and earrings and
[15:40]and all these things Rings probably there some of them have gold
[15:43]even though gold is Haram for men for women it is allowed
[15:49]but here if you have gold and jewelry it would not apply
[15:54]zakat would not apply to it it only applies to the coins
[15:59]that you have and uh a third condition or criteria is that
[16:02]the ability of the owner of these metals to use them freely
[16:06]all year round so if I have property but I don't have
[16:11]control of it right now for example maybe someone has um something
[16:14]in a country and they don't have access to that country they
[16:18]have no control of it whatsoever there's a war there's something they
[16:22]have no control of it uh zakat would not apply and another
[16:27]criteria is that the person who it's waj upon them has to
[16:33]be an adult has to be and they have to have a
[16:39]sound mind so say for example a child you have a child
[16:41]and they have a lot of these gold coins they have hundreds
[16:45]of them that zakat would apply to them zakat does not apply
[16:51]because this person is still a child now it's must for the
[16:54]parents to give but this would not apply right now okay so
[16:59]go to the next slide please okay criteria for zakat to apply
[17:04]on crops we we said the the criteria for the gold and
[17:10]silver what's the criteria for the crops the wheat The Barley the
[17:13]dates and the raisins one is that the minimum weight taxable of
[17:19]any of these crops when it is dry shall be 300 S
[17:25]so that means a cubic measure equivalent to approximately 847 kg so
[17:32]it means you have a lot so right now in the Middle
[17:38]East you go to some people they have Farms they have these
[17:40]large Farms like right now in carala for example there's a close
[17:46]to the shrine of Imam Hussein there are some people they have
[17:48]farms in their home they have a lot of farms in their
[17:50]home and they have uh date trees palm trees so if for
[17:57]example at the end of the Harvest they have a lot of
[18:02]dates there's hundreds of trees and they come and they collect these
[18:04]dates and when they're dry not wet because when they're wet they're
[18:07]heavier when they're dyy they weigh more than 847 kilg which is
[18:14]possible because it adds up then they would have to give zakat
[18:18]they would have to give zakat so this is one um another
[18:25]condition is that the crops should be owned by the person who
[18:27]M so this person has to have ownership it's not that I
[18:33]went and I bought for example something or I um I went
[18:35]and I uh found it or something it's not I need to
[18:40]I need to be the owner okay there are conditions if the
[18:43]land is cultivated with these crops if the land cultivated with these
[18:51]crops is irrigated by either rain or river water that does not
[18:55]call for great effort the zakat shall be 10% so here you
[19:00]you see there's the system of equality in Islam it shows that
[19:03]if you went and you for example you used your own source
[19:09]of irrigation then you would pay less zakat than if you just
[19:12]relied on the rain and the river water because this is coming
[19:14]easy for you it's coming from Allah subhana tala but if you
[19:19]went and you exhausted yourself you would give less so here are
[19:23]the rules if the land cultivated with these crops is irrigated by
[19:26]either rain or river water that does not call for for great
[19:31]effort the zakat shall be 10% so you give 10% of every
[19:33]847 kg and then um if it is irrigated by hand a
[19:40]pump or or or or that like zakat payable shall be 5%
[19:46]okay so that means this required more effort you had to pump
[19:51]and you had to come and carry the water so you give
[19:52]less you get 5% if the source of irrigation varies using both
[19:58]the ways mentioned mentioned in A and B payment of of the
[20:03]zakat shall be 7.5% so it's somewhere in between so you used
[20:06]a little bit of the river little bit of the rain and
[20:10]you also had to kind of supplement it then it would be
[20:12]7.5 so so basically you look at how much effort did you
[20:20]put in it and this is regarding these type of crops so
[20:25]say for example I had orange trees I had a lot of
[20:27]orange trees do I pay zakat h no zakat is wheat barley
[20:37]dates and raisin so these are the and this is why a
[20:42]lot of people ask why do we have to pays because zakat
[20:47]is very limited for example right now how many of us are
[20:50]paying zakat on the gold and the silver no one how many
[20:53]is paying zakat on the wheat barley dates and raisins only the
[20:57]farmers those who have a lot and those who are growing this
[21:04]so so B um basically it does not apply to many people
[21:06]next slide please okay the criteria for zakat to apply on sheep
[21:12]goats and cattle camels and buffaloes so here when it comes to
[21:22]the the cattle the Sheep the goats the cattle and the camels
[21:26]and the buffalos you see that there are tax brackets you know
[21:29]right now when you go and you file for taxes there are
[21:33]tax brackets if you are high income you fall in the in
[21:37]this tax bracket whichever tax bracket you fall in you have to
[21:43]give some type of tax in zakat it also has the same
[21:47]so if you have camels so say a person he owned many
[21:53]camels people in the desert back then in the Middle East and
[21:58]and many other places they have a lot of camels they have
[22:01]other things even here not only in the Middle East so if
[22:07]you have a minimum number of five camels if you have five
[22:10]camels how many sheep do you have to give for zakat you
[22:16]give one sheep in zakat so this is basically the tax this
[22:23]is the the they call it the N the word in Arabic
[22:25]isab so if you have five you give one for every five
[22:32]extra camels thereafter and up to and including 25 the rate is
[22:37]one sheep for every five camels so if you have 10 camels
[22:41]you give two sheep if you have three camels you give uh
[22:44]if you have 15 you give three up to 25 you give
[22:50]five and then after um if you have 25 camels five sheep
[22:54]is the number that should be given in zakat however if you
[23:00]own 26 camels the zakat do shall be one two-year-old she camel
[23:04]basically a baby camel and 36 would warrant one three-year-old she com
[23:10]so the older the camel is the more expensive it gets so
[23:15]this is basically you know this is not something that we are
[23:18]really worried about because not a lot of people have this but
[23:25]those who who own camels and sheep and livestock they know these
[23:28]numbers because this is something that is very familiar with them but
[23:30]if you come and you ask me for example I have 70
[23:33]camels what's what do I have to give I don't know I'm
[23:37]going to have to look it up but if if you go
[23:40]and you ask the the experts those who this this this is
[23:43]something that is basically their life revolves around this they know the
[23:46]numbers very well when it comes to sheep what are the brackets
[23:52]the minimum on which zakat is due is 40 so if you
[23:54]yes sister no they don't give they only give up to the
[24:03]five once it hits the next bracket then they then they um
[24:06]give more yes so if they have sheep the minimum on which
[24:12]zakat is due is 40 so say someone has 39 sheep do
[24:14]they have to give zakat no um one sheep should be given
[24:20]away in zakat for that number of sheep so if you have
[24:23]40 you give one two sheep for 121 so if you have
[24:30]121 then it goes to two sheep three sheep for 2011 four
[24:38]for 31 any number of sheep exceeding 400 and the rate is
[24:41]one sheep for every 100 of them without a ceiling basically you
[24:44]keep one for every 100 so in the beginning you see at
[24:50]40 and then after that it hits 100 so it's not every
[24:53]40 okay uh next next slide please when it comes to the
[25:01]cattles and the Buffalo meaning the cow and buffalo these are all
[25:05]the same the minimum that is taxable is 30 of either zakat
[25:12]zakat payable on that number is a calf so if you have
[25:16]30 the minimum 30 um C uh cows or Buffalo you give
[25:25]one calf for every 30 and that has just entered the second
[25:30]year of its life so you have to give one that's a
[25:33]little bit bigger it's entered its second year of its life if
[25:38]the number was 40 zakat do shall be one twoyear old Shea
[25:42]Buffalo so these are some of the conditions further conditions and this
[25:47]applies to the camels the sheep and the and the cattle is
[25:54]that livestock M must be of the kind that Grays in the
[25:59]fields so they go and they eat from the from God basically
[26:02]it rains and they eat should it need to be fed by
[26:07]supplements even during part of the Year there shall be no zakat
[26:09]so if you feed your own you feed your own cattle you
[26:14]don't give zakat on see how Islam is very easy going if
[26:16]you come and you spend money at parts of the year because
[26:20]of there there was drought there was no rain you went and
[26:23]you gave you had to give it food then you don't give
[26:27]zakat this zakat is applies for those who basically they go and
[26:30]they they her their sheep and their cattle and they eat from
[26:35]the grass outside so they ate their RIS came from Allah they
[26:38]grew then you give back to Allah subhana wa tala this is
[26:44]one condition second is that the owner or his Guardian should have
[26:48]the right of disposal over his livestock throughout the year so you
[26:52]need to have access to these if you don't have ownership you
[26:55]don't have access to them it does not apply and a third
[27:01]condition is that a minimum of 11 months so you need to
[27:07]have them for 11 months to a year so if you have
[27:09]them for seven months you don't give should have elapsed under the
[27:13]ownership of the same person before any zakat becomes du any questions
[27:20]yes sister you don't give zakat no no because you had to
[27:30]feed you had to spend from them you had to spend on
[27:33]them so this is God's way of being just with everyone Allah
[27:36]subh says since you had to give then you don't you had
[27:39]to feed it then you don't need to give but if your
[27:41]your animals they they they they went and they were grazing and
[27:46]they ate from what the rain the the food that Allah subhana
[27:48]T has PR them give back to the PO but usually in
[27:54]the past people would people would um with cattle they would just
[27:58]go out those who had a lot of cattle they would go
[28:01]out of the city and the cattle they eat the food that's
[28:02]outside and they survive yes yes sister okay this is the next
[28:12]this is the next slide inshallah did anyone have their hands up
[28:15]here you got you had your hand up okay go to the
[28:20]next slide please who take who takes the zakat so Allah subhana
[28:23]waa says inah Surah chapter 9ahba verse 60 so Allah says in
[28:52]the Quran zakat expenditures are only for the poor and for the
[28:56]needy and is the person who's really poor m is the needy
[29:03]they're a a level a little bit less meaning they're better than
[29:06]the but they're still in need they're still in need and we're
[29:12]and we'll explain who is the poor person NE the poor and
[29:15]for the needy and for those employed to collect zakat so there
[29:20]were people the prophet he would send them to go and collect
[29:23]zakat they that that was their job their job was to go
[29:29]and collect zakat they would take a portion Bas of course not
[29:32]whatever they want whatever Allah subhah wa tala gives them that's called
[29:36]because they would have to travel and they would have to take
[29:41]these camels and they would have it was a hard job so
[29:42]they would take a small portion and then and for bringing hearts
[29:55]together for Islam there were people during the the time of the
[29:59]Prophet like Abu sufyan and many others at the end after the
[30:06]the prophet fought many wars and battles with them later on they
[30:09]saw that everyone had become Muslim but they still needed some type
[30:16]of motivation to become Muslim so what did Allah do Allah came
[30:20]and he gave them these camels and he gave them these cattle
[30:24]and he came and he told them you could have it you
[30:25]could have it some of the some of the believers they said
[30:30]y Allah you're giving these guys and you and you didn't give
[30:33]us told them they are in a special category called meaning their
[30:41]hearts are kind of on the on the basically the on the
[30:47]edge they haven't really made up their mind sometimes you have to
[30:49]just give them something they'll come they'll they'll be they'll join the
[30:52]religion of this is how some people are some people they join
[30:54]out of their heart has fully joined other people they have to
[30:58]come and give them some money to encourage them so this applied
[31:01]to them so would give Zak to those people and for freeing
[31:10]captives or slaves so if you have a you have a slave
[31:12]and you want to free the slave you could give zakat to
[31:16]free the slave and and for those in debt say someone during
[31:21]the time of R he comes to he tells I'm in death
[31:26]he tells IM Ali I'm in death I'm they're going to take
[31:29]away my house I don't have food I have something would come
[31:33]and give them and for the cause of Allah and for those
[31:45]who are stranded Travelers is for example say someone was passing by
[31:49]they're traveling and they lost all their wallet they lost all their
[31:53]money this person is called this person you give them you give
[31:59]them and and this is an obligation imposed by Allah and Allah
[32:09]is knowing and wise so Allah tells us who to give the
[32:15]zakat to of course during the time of Al during the time
[32:18]of the IMs who is the one who collects the zakat and
[32:22]theams they're the ones who would send people they say okay you
[32:26]give this person zakat you give that person the zakat after the
[32:29]death of the Prophet who started collecting the zakat the IM is
[32:35]supposed to be but was the IM did IM Ali was he
[32:39]given permission was he given the ability to rule he wasn't so
[32:43]the governments they started collecting the khif yazid and mua and harun
[32:49]and M they started collecting the zakat and they made it they
[32:53]built their Empires off of the zakat that the Muslims have to
[32:59]give so this is why tomorrow we're going or or the next
[33:01]time we meet Monday we're going to talk about this the today
[33:07]sunnis don't give or there's a difference in opinion regarding the the
[33:12]prophet during his time he did not collects except uncertain things later
[33:16]on the imams they started telling people you have to give if
[33:22]had told people to give then when the was taken away from
[33:27]IM Ali and the IMs the would have collected the and nothing
[33:29]would would remain for the IMs so there was a there was
[33:38]a strategic delay in the order of um making the obligatory for
[33:41]this reason we will talk about it later but basically the zakat
[33:45]also needs to be spent by the permission of the Imam by
[33:49]the permission of the Imam right now the Imam is not around
[33:54]so we look at the we look at the scholars if they
[33:56]have given permission for zakat to be spent in a specific place
[34:01]or the to be spent in a specific place then we give
[34:03]it to that location so another another very important question is when
[34:10]I if I see a poor person if I see a poor
[34:14]follower of the this person is poor I could give this person
[34:18]my zakat because the Quran says how do I know who is
[34:25]poor yes sister so here is to bring them to Islam I
[34:43]don't think it I don't think it would apply Scholars they say
[34:47]the W zakat it should probably go towards a Muslim but the
[34:52]the non zakat which we talked about in the beginning Sak right
[34:56]now I have a box in my house put this is must
[34:59]this is recommended this is not W this one I could give
[35:03]it to anyone I want yeah so different Scholars have different opinions
[35:10]on this because some of it needs to be go needs to
[35:15]go to a m and needs to go to a Believer um
[35:18]other they say like right now I I drive and I see
[35:22]a homeless person I don't need to ask this person I take
[35:24]money out of my wallet and I give this person money this
[35:28]is good and this attract them but the W we're talking about
[35:31]the obligatory zakat the IM is the one who tells us how
[35:38]to spend that yes so but we know that the IMs of
[35:39]the they used to give for example IMI um when he was
[35:47]ruling kufa he was walking in the market and he saw an
[35:52]old man begging he saw an old man begging and IM Ali
[35:57]he asked he didn't didn't ask man he didn't ask who is
[36:01]this guy he asked what is this what does that mean that
[36:07]means seeing someone begging is a strange phenomenon in the government that
[36:12]IM Ali is ruling he says M what is this they tell
[36:14]him this is a Christian man he became old so he is
[36:20]begging in the street now he can't work so he tells them
[36:23]he tells them you used him when he was young and now
[36:28]that he's old you don't you leave him out to beg like
[36:33]this give him from they gave from the of the Muslims so
[36:36]yes there are conditions there are circumstances where it is allowed there's
[36:41]different types of zakat um for example zakat it needs to go
[36:45]to one group of people this type of zakat it could go
[36:48]to anyone the it needs to go to specific people but in
[36:51]generally speaking the the must charity it could be given to anyone
[36:58]anyone who's in need yes giving what that means you pay the
[37:13]government so they give them or you give directly to the poor
[37:16]person well when you give the government does the government ask you
[37:22]to do volunteer or they take it from you without you knowing
[37:26]they take it from you so you have no choice they already
[37:32]they already took it out of your salary before you even got
[37:34]the money in your bank but if you have the choice to
[37:38]give to the government or not then you should not give because
[37:42]a lot of it goes to to things that are not basically
[37:47]you should choose how you want your money to be spent you
[37:49]you shouldn't just give it to some lobbyist they come and they
[37:56]send it to make bombs and bomb little kids so uh um
[37:58]don't you don't choose to give but if you can if you
[38:02]don't have a choice then yeah it's okay but it's not you
[38:06]don't deduct it from your zakat sometimes I have people they ask
[38:09]me they say say I the government they take they take tax
[38:11]from me at the end of the year or I have property
[38:15]tax can I consider that my and my zakat of course not
[38:19]this is going in the government's pocket you need to give it
[38:21]to you need to give the and zakat it needs to go
[38:26]it has its own cause so this is where the zakat is
[38:30]spent um basically through the zakat the Muslim government is able to
[38:37]finance itself it's able the philosophy behind it is that there should
[38:42]be no poor people in society there should be no poor people
[38:46]in the community and the says the one who sleeps with a
[38:56]full stomach and his neighbor or her neighbor is hungry this person
[38:59]is not from my um this means that Allah subhana wa ta'ala
[39:02]wants us just as we focus on our prayer we focus on
[39:07]our fasting we focus on our Hajj we have to also think
[39:11]about the person next door think about people in our community if
[39:14]they are in need and we have to give them so this
[39:18]is all that I had for zakat in the next session we
[39:20]will talk about does anyone have any questions about zakat no questions
[39:27]yes sister no so basically once you have it for 11 months
[39:43]the animals the cattle um there there are conditions but everyone has
[39:49]their own day their own day that they give the zakat yes
[39:53]just like thees everyone has you choose your own date and you
[40:00]choose that to be the date of your H yes okay M
[40:18]if you could share the
