[0:58]Z [Music] in the name of God the most beneficent the most
[1:22]merciful all praise is due to the Lord master of all the
[1:26]worlds and peace and blessings be on All His prophets and especially
[1:33]his final Prophet The Prophet Muhammad s my respected brothers and sisters
[1:41]congratulations to each and every one of you the celebration of and
[1:46]congratulations to each and every one of you on the celebration of
[1:51]and many of us on these occasions want to make sure that
[1:56]we remember the blessings of God and we all have different ways
[1:58]of celebrating and then the question arises are we allowed to read
[2:03]nids what type of poetry can we read how many different types
[2:09]of musical instruments may we be allowed to play are there musical
[2:13]instruments which are Halal are there some which are completely forbidden and
[2:17]this whole discussion therefore takes on a different tangent when it comes
[2:23]toid especially in the Muslim World cuz I remember growing up on
[2:26]the day of there are many people who for example in the
[2:28]whole of the month of Ramadan they've been fasting and then there
[2:33]would be a party or a rave or there would be an
[2:35]event at a club when it came to the day ofid and
[2:39]I used to always wonder how How could somebody go on to
[2:46]commit a prohibited act having been in a period of complete submission
[2:50]to God and then we open and we seem to understand why
[2:55]because when one looks in Ali one finds some very interesting Traditions
[3:00]concerning music dancing dances around the holy prophet Muhammad sallallah alai now
[3:08]someone will turn around say hold on hold on hold on yes
[3:11]maybe I don't know maybe someone had read a Nashid like we
[3:13]hear about these Nashid such as and we hear about these different
[3:19]nids or different pieces of poetry that were read no no it
[3:23]goes further than this there are actually people dancing in the vicinity
[3:26]of the prophet and on the basis of that many people began
[3:31]to ask the question that a would the prophet Muhammad s Al
[3:36]allow musical instruments to be played around him B what was the
[3:40]reaction of the companions at the time cuz we all know very
[3:44]well that many occasions where you'll find the prophet you'll always hear
[3:48]Abu Bakr and Omar giving their opinion as well and they'll always
[3:51]give their opinion as to whether they believe that what is happening
[3:55]at that moment is something which is acceptable or it's something which
[3:59]is prohibited now you look at this and indeed you find that
[4:03]different groups emerge with their different opinions so I find for example
[4:07]today in the Muslim World there are Muslims who recently in Beirut
[4:09]were very happy to go to am diab's concert a lot of
[4:13]these by the way are people who love the prophet Muhammed s
[4:16]alai they adore the as well but they'll be very happy to
[4:22]go to an Egyptian single or a Lebanese singer or an Iraqi
[4:24]singer biggest concert and some of them may be in hijab and
[4:29]others may not be and some of them may even turn around
[4:30]and say but hold on if in there is evidence that the
[4:35]prophet didn't mind dancing and singing on the day of then what's
[4:38]your issue with us going to concerts then there's other groups that
[4:42]emerge with this as well so you've got those groups who emerge
[4:46]and say that we want to dance but we'll remember Allah subhana
[4:49]wa tala in our dancing how many times have you heard the
[4:53]sufis and the way that they do and the way that they
[4:54]remember God in some cases they'll go around in circles chanting the
[4:59]names of God and if a person says to them why are
[5:04]you dancing dancing is not allowed they may turn around and say
[5:07]well in bukari the prophet has dances around him when you look
[5:10]at that therefore you find that different groups may look at the
[5:16]day ofid as a day where everything is acceptable why because the
[5:22]biography of the Prophet one of its sources is and and Abu
[5:31]Muslim all of these are sources for us when it comes to
[5:36]the life of the Prophet peace be upon him and his family
[5:39]now we know it's a really vague area Muslims always ask the
[5:42]question what music can we listen to and what music can't we
[5:45]listen to did the prophet used to enjoy music what if it
[5:50]was cultural music what if it was abian what if it was
[5:54]Arab and therefore when they ask these questions we need to be
[5:58]able to understand where to come from with the answers on the
[6:01]one hand you'll find therefore that the majority of the Muslims will
[6:04]turn around and say no way the prophet would allow dancers around
[6:09]him especially dancers of the opposite gender others will say there's no
[6:13]way he'd allow dancing in his mosque in Medina but what happens
[6:16]tonight if I show you that the prophet Muhammad peace be upon
[6:19]him and his family had people playing music and dancing not just
[6:26]in his house but also in his mosque and that is sometimes
[6:30]why we need to scrutinize his in Sunni literature and his in
[6:36]Shia literature now someone might say to me this is a bit
[6:40]farfetched there's no way the prophet would allow such a thing and
[6:43]is there any way that his companions would have narrated this and
[6:47]see it as acceptable join me tonight as we open up the
[6:53]discussion on music dancing dances in the life of now where shall
[6:59]I begin well let's begin with let's get straight toari and see
[7:02]how did the prophet celebrate because for us last week this week
[7:08]coming up we've got we're going to have celebrations and you know
[7:11]all of us we're going to be having people who are going
[7:14]to be clapping and we're going to have people who are going
[7:15]to be reading an aid and people who are going to be
[7:19]reading from all walks of life for those in the Muslim World
[7:22]you'll hear all these different people who are reciting and the ladies
[7:27]will recite in the ladies Gathering the men and the men but
[7:30]is there a possibility that in bukari ladies were even dancing around
[7:33]the prophet peace be upon's family join me over here let's go
[7:36]toari I'd like to go to this particular section if everyone at
[7:42]home can please join us over here let's see what it says
[7:44]as you all know very well the translation of the meanings of
[7:53]Sahari Arabic English volume 2ith 876 to 1772 translated by Dr Muhammad
[8:00]msin Khan you all could see over here my dear brothers and
[8:03]sisters formerly director University Hospital Islamic University Al okay that is notala
[8:11]nor is it Naf nor is it nor is it Sam no
[8:14]MH no no sham Al and you move on over here my
[8:18]dear brothers sisters let's see what it says as you could see
[8:21]very clearly that this is printed in July 1997 printing supervised by
[8:26]ABD mik mujahed King fad National Library cataloging in publication data it
[8:32]can't get more clear than that let's open and see the prophet
[8:36]sallallah alai enjoining music or whether he prohibits it let's see over
[8:42]here come with me to page 56 over here all of you
[8:48]could see page 56 and this book is of course the book
[8:54]of the the two so we want to understand how did let's
[8:58]say celebrate for example for example we come over here I want
[9:05]you to all come to the bottom over here Hadith number 949
[9:10]narrated okay Allah's messenger came to my house while two girls were
[9:21]singing beside me the songs of what of bath what are the
[9:24]songs of bath it is a story about the war between the
[9:31]tribes of the ANS the and of course who and of course
[9:34]the and all of you could see over here before Islam the
[9:42]prophet Sall laid down and turned his face to the other side
[9:46]then Abu Bakr came and spoke to me harshly saying musical instruments
[9:55]of Shan near the prophet Sall Allah's messenger turned his face towards
[10:00]him and said leave them when Abu Bakr became inattentive I signal
[10:08]to those girls to go out and they left so what do
[10:09]we have over here we have the house of and another very
[10:15]interesting Moment In The House of the Prophet peace be upon him
[10:17]and his family what's this interesting moment Al enters upon the house
[10:24]and the narration clearly says to us that there were two girls
[10:28]singing the songs of bath to mother of the Believers these two
[10:34]girls are singing in her house no problem when we come a
[10:40]bit further what does it say you notice that the word is
[10:41]mentioned over here just in case someone says that this might be
[10:46]a or this might be a a okay all of you could
[10:52]see over here when it mentions is normally the word most associated
[11:01]with music if you ask most people who speak the Arabic language
[11:07]some might bring in the phrase others will bring in you'll see
[11:11]very clearly my dear brothers and sisters that these two were singing
[11:14]when at this moment Abu Bakr enters and he speaks harshly to
[11:20]his daughter AA now something very interesting here and that is that
[11:25]Abu Bakr can speak harshly to AA without people cursing him without
[11:30]people saying how dare you speak to the wife of Al and
[11:36]the mother of the Believers in this way if a wants to
[11:39]examine A's actions straight away we're told CF filthy dog mush ra
[11:48]true Abu Bakr himself is Harsh according to bukari in the way
[11:52]that he speaks to Abu Bakr doesn't come in and say oh
[11:56]mother of the Believers he doesn't come in and say because you
[11:59]are the wife of Al I have to be very careful in
[12:04]the way that I talk to you no he speaks harshly very
[12:06]clearly where thei says what does he say musical instruments of how
[12:26]could you even think that you would noice for us or let's
[12:35]suggest for example let's smise even that doesn't know the law and
[12:42]doesn't know what's and how could you even think that you are
[12:47]able to give guidance to in the world of if you are
[12:55]giving him guidance then what is the need for him to be
[13:00]the prophet you might as well be the Prophet you're the one
[13:01]who is now at that moment talking about how musical instruments are
[13:05]Froman you think doesn't know about this but Abu Bakr finds it
[13:12]normal to be the one who's trying to enjoin the good and
[13:14]forbid the evil to the very man who we have trusted has
[13:20]come to us with guidance Allah's messenger turned his face towards him
[13:25]and said leave them when Abu Bakr became inattentive I signal to
[13:29]those those girls to go out and they left it's very interesting
[13:33]howu enters a house his house his wife's house and there are
[13:40]these girls who are singing whether he is pleased or not pleased
[13:43]he enters a house where such a thing taking place now either
[13:51]this thing is prohibited or it is allowed if it is something
[13:53]which is allowed then why would Abu Bakr become so angry he
[13:58]should be of the opinion that he knows that such things are
[14:01]allowed clearly Abu Bakr has an issue with the behavior that's taking
[14:05]place in the house of so here what do we have we
[14:12]have very clearly my dear brothers and sisters that in the house
[14:16]of it was normal for there to be these dances according to
[14:21]this Hadith it is what it is for example normal because it
[14:25]is a celebration and that is the celebration of what the celebration
[14:29]of if you look for example over here before I come back
[14:34]to this tradition I remember in mab ma all of you come
[14:39]over here sunb Ma look over here the sixth correct tradition of
[14:43]the prophetic Sunnah sunb ma translated by Muhammed English Arabic text volume
[14:51]two let's see where is it published printed in Lebanon year 2008
[15:01]translator Muhammad M Shar in four volumes if you all come with
[15:04]me my dear brothers and sisters to page 186 of this book
[15:09]there's an interesting section over here and the section is for all
[15:12]of you to use okay all of you look at this section
[15:16]what about singing and beating the tambourine okay Hadith 1897 if I
[15:24]move to Hadith 1898 come here Hadith 18 98 it is narrated
[15:34]on the authority of AA that she said Abu Bakr came to
[15:41]my home while two small Ansari girls were singing beside me the
[15:47]stories of the ansar concerning the day of B they were not
[15:55]professional singers Abu Bakr said protestingly musical in instruments ofan are in
[16:04]the home of just the pause over here so who are you
[16:08]attacking for his lack of knowledge or your daughter for her lack
[16:14]of knowledge Al for his lack of God Consciousness or your daughter
[16:17]for her lack of God Consciousness I'm just saying that it's Abu
[16:21]Bakr who puts the attack not a sh if it was a
[16:23]sh you'd be putting comments all over the place insulting and cursing
[16:26]but when he's the one who's putting the this comment it's something
[16:30]amazing come again musical instruments of Shan imagine look what it says
[16:40]in the Arabic imagine he himself says at this moment musical instruments
[16:52]of Shan are in the home of the messenger of Allah s
[16:56]it happened on the day of so this would be just after
[17:05]sh Ramadan and the messenger of Allah said this is a very
[17:11]important line for those who want to enjoy or whatever his name
[17:15]is well I don't know if even I'm pronouncing the guy's names
[17:18]properly or any of these other Arab singers on the day of
[17:24]because if you go to Lebanon or you go to uh Egypt
[17:25]or you go to I don't know parts of the gulf it's
[17:28]very normal on the of to have men and woman not hijab
[17:33]sh not sh all singing and dancing and enjoying life with these
[17:36]singers look at this Hadith what it says it says that the
[17:42]prophet said oh Abu Bakr every nation has their festival and this
[17:46]is our Festival meaning that every nation has a Christmas they enjoy
[17:55]Christmas and they merry making Christmas and others have Han and they
[18:01]marry Mak Hanukah and others have diali and they enjoy diali this
[18:05]is our there's two girls in the house who are dancing or
[18:13]singing professional or not good voices or not break the glass or
[18:17]not this is our look what he says over here in the
[18:24]Arabic what does he say every nation has their and this is
[18:37]our why are you complaining Abu Bak can't believe the behavior of
[18:40]the Prophet because he's like musical instruments in the house of Shan
[18:44]I I think there's a reason if you want to defend him
[18:48]I think there's a reason why he's confused because he's heard the
[18:54]prophet saying that listen instruments these are from the wor of Acts
[18:59]if you come to bukari come back to bukari here the translation
[19:04]of the meanings ofari Arabic English Volume 7 5063 to 5969 okay
[19:10]so we're on Volume 7 translated by Dr Muhammad M Khan printed
[19:15]in July 1997 printing supervised by Abdul Malik mujahid King fad National
[19:20]Library cataloging in publication data come with me over here I think
[19:26]when Abu Bakr says musical instruments and the Hasan because he sees
[19:29]this Hadith or he knows this narration he's heard I should say
[19:32]this narration and he's baffled come with me over here look at
[19:37]this narration page 29 uh 286 okay if you come to this
[19:44]particular chapter the book of drinks what is said regarding the one
[19:47]who regards alcohol etc etc and then you'll see here what is
[19:50]said regarding the one who regards an alcoholic drink lawful to drink
[19:55]and calls it by another name this Hadith is narrated by who
[19:57]by Abu Malik that he heard the prophet saying from amongst my
[20:00]followers there will be some people who will consider illegal sexual intercourse
[20:05]the wearing of silk the drinking of alcoholic drinks and the use
[20:12]of musical instruments as lawful and from them there will be some
[20:15]who will stay near the side of a mountain and in the
[20:16]evening their Shepherd will come to them with their sheep and ask
[20:19]for something but they will say to him return to us tomorrow
[20:21]Allah will destroy them during the night and will let the mountain
[20:26]fall on them and he will transform the rest of them into
[20:28]monkeys and pigs and they will remain so till the day of
[20:30]Resurrection Abu Bakr knows that musical instruments there's a major problem he
[20:34]now enters the house of his son-in-law the holy prophet Muhammad sallallahu
[20:38]alaih Al and his daughter AA to see singing going on asks
[20:44]the prophet what's going on Shan's here and the prophet says listen
[20:48]everyone's got their you know you got to give us a break
[20:53]like Shah Ramadan us guys have been doing so manyal acts and
[20:59]and duas and you know we've been staying up late nights and
[21:03]we've been trying our hardest to be like as religious as possible
[21:06]and now you're coming up to me and you're saying to me
[21:09]what's going on every nation has a imagine this sometimes by the
[21:20]way happens in our houses you'll always have someone who's like Bubba
[21:24]religion religion let's have some fun why can't we go and for
[21:27]example you know let's go and enjoy a nice Bollywood song at
[21:31]home you're so boring you're like a molana now you don't even
[21:34]you've heard that and then Allah com says don't worry on everything
[21:38]goes and that's why those were the days in leester square those
[21:42]were the days um in central London where you could have Raves
[21:50]called Eid party night and people used to wonder bro the promoters
[21:53]are Muslims and by the way I only know this cuz I've
[21:58]heard from people the promoters are Muslims you say everyone's got this
[22:00]is we got to let our hair down come on we've been
[22:04]doing Salah those who've been doing they've been doing the whole month
[22:08]and those who've done 19 21 and 23 they've been doing the
[22:10]whole month Prophet said let your hair down come on look at
[22:16]the next Hadith in MA come back to the next Hadith again
[22:19]1899 it is narrated on the authority of an Malik that he
[22:24]said once the messenger of Allah sallah alai Al Came Upon some
[22:26]place in Med in Medina and behold there were some girls beating
[22:32]the tambourine and singing We are girls belonging to the sons of
[22:36]a Nar it's better for us to have Muhammad S alaih as
[22:40]our neighbor on that the messenger said Allah knows that I like
[22:43]you as well as you like me so the girls are beating
[22:48]okay the tambourine the most interesting thing about beating you know these
[22:52]tambourines this is of course called the dof yes because you will
[23:00]see in the Arabic you will see here very clearly as you
[23:05]could see this is the do so you've got this tambourine and
[23:10]these girls are singing and is like I like you guys the
[23:16]way you like me so what we have now is that in
[23:17]his house we have girls singing and Abu Bakr is really angry
[23:23]with this by the way he's like musical instruments cuz how many
[23:26]mananas have told you it is Haram to play music instruments Shan
[23:31]is musical instruments yet in the prophet is like you know and
[23:34]now we've got these girls who are welcoming and there's no issue
[23:42]the prophet doesn't really have much issue over here and therefore you
[23:47]will find that this is mentioned all over this particular chapter in
[23:53]and the ma come to Hadith 1900 over here again you will
[23:59]see the this time on the authority of Abbas I said supervised
[24:01]the Affairs of the marriage of a girl from her kinship belonging
[24:04]to the ANS the messenger of Allah Sall Al came and asked
[24:08]have you sent the girl to the house of her husband she
[24:10]answered in the affirmative he asked have you sent with her some
[24:14]girls to sing for her look in the Arabic look over here
[24:40]what did he say come back over here said the are a
[24:45]people who have a tendency towards Words of Love Words of Love
[24:54]next page so would that you should send with her some girls
[24:58]who might say what while singing we've come to you we've come
[25:03]to you yes that they come in with that girl and they
[25:09]are form someone who's giving her support for example and when they
[25:13]come with her they say we've come to you we've come to
[25:17]you greeting be for us as well as it be for you
[25:18]then Hadith 1 1901 it is narrated on the authority of mujah
[25:23]that he said I was in the company ofb Omar when he
[25:25]heard the sound of drumming thereupon he got his fingers into his
[25:30]ears and moved aside and did so Thrice and said so did
[25:34]the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaih Al that's very interesting over here
[25:39]tambourine seemingly is acceptable woman dancing is acceptable but what's interesting is
[25:43]that them dancing in front of alai in his house or even
[25:49]in the streets is seen as something which is acceptable but the
[25:52]companions are confused Abu Bak comes in and speaks to his daughter
[26:00]har and as we know Abu Bakr will always offer an opinion
[26:03]and if Abu Bakr offers an opinion then Omar has to offer
[26:08]an opinion as well there is no way that we will ever
[26:10]hear Omar remaining silent on such an issue Omar will always give
[26:18]his true Sense on these issues and his opinion on these issues
[26:23]as well and that's why when we look Inari we find Omar
[26:29]giving his opinion as well so we had mentioned earlier this particular
[26:34]section of if we come back to it again we see volume
[26:38]two okay ofar 876 to 1772 translated by Dr Muhammad M Khan
[26:49]again where is it printed in July 1997 Abdul Malik mujahid all
[26:52]of you will see over here my dear brothers and sisters that
[26:56]it is from the King Fahad National Library cataloging we came over
[27:00]here to this particular section the book of the two AIDS we
[27:04]saw that Abu Bakr was very angry at what was happening he
[27:06]speaks harshly to his daughter AA how could there be musical instruments
[27:14]in the House ofas s we then see over here my dear
[27:20]brothers and sisters again if you come to this particular Hadith you
[27:24]will see Hadith 952 narrated Abu Bakr came to my house while
[27:27]two small girls who were singing beside me the stories of the
[27:32]ANS concerning the day of Abu Bakr said protestingly musical instruments ofan
[27:38]in the house of it happened on the day of and Allah's
[27:42]messenger said oh abak there is an Eid for every nation and
[27:49]this is what and this is our Eid you then see that
[27:55]on top of that the continuation is there that the opinion was
[27:58]given by those around and that opinion was that this is something
[28:06]that should not be acceptable if you look within the narrations what
[28:10]do you find you look again in J over here my dear
[28:18]brothers and sisters join me J over here you will find English
[28:21]translation of J compiled by IM Muhammed volume six from Hadith number
[28:32]3291 to 3956 translated by Abu a Hadith edited and referenced by
[28:37]Abu Al final review by who by the Islamic Research section which
[28:43]is of course Dar Salam again come over here first edition is
[28:47]where first edition is in November 2007 supervised by ABD Malik muah
[28:54]and when you come over here you'll see if we come to
[29:01]Hadith number 3690 my dear brothers and sisters and we'll see exactly
[29:06]what takes place again with this scene put over here on page
[29:14]368 the chapter of and the chapter has a very interesting title
[29:20]you guys are going to enjoy this title his statement indeed Shan
[29:28]is afraid of you oh Omar is afraid of omaran with all
[29:41]of his clientele and all of his exploits in his life ends
[29:47]up being scared of the same Shan who is destroyed who is
[29:51]manipulated who is deceived is scared of of all people no problem
[29:55]I think Shan already had quite a good track record in Omar's
[30:00]early life with Omar slapping his daugh his sister with Omar being
[30:04]involved in the torture of the early Muslims and so on and
[30:09]so forth but saidan is afraid of Omar let's see why isan
[30:12]afraid of let's see everyone join me so we see this over
[30:21]here 3690 the Hadith is from b b said the messenger of
[30:24]Allah s Al went out for one of his expeditions then when
[30:30]he came back a black slave girl came to him and said
[30:36]oh messenger of Allah I took an oath that if Allah returned
[30:38]you safely I would beat the doof before you and sing yeah
[30:43]if Allah returned you safely from the Expedition what would I do
[30:48]the tambourine yeah I'll be tapping the tambourine and then I will
[30:58]sing for you w I think some Muslims are more conservative in
[31:02]the way they live than the way bukari depicts Allah with random
[31:07]Ladies If now today for some Muslims the idea of someone in
[31:13]their Community coming and playing a drum for them from who's not
[31:16]Maham to them what would happen straight away we'd be believe you
[31:19]me if that happened with me it will be all over the
[31:21]internet will be all over YouTube and people will say that I've
[31:23]left the religion of Islam and I'm no chance of coming back
[31:27]but no if it's then we have to enjoy what it says
[31:32]and we have to trust wholeheartedly let's go and see what happens
[31:36]so that lady she said what she came and said if you
[31:41]read the Arabic over here I took an oath I done another
[31:57]that I would do what my was that if Allah returns you
[32:01]safely I'm going to play that tambourine for you and I'm going
[32:06]to sing for you how many of us were told ladies and
[32:09]gents cannot be in the same room you're not Mah hijab must
[32:13]be observed you canot even look lower your gaze and here I've
[32:16]got someone who's ready to play the tambourine for my Prophet but
[32:20]the prophet some may argue has to deal with these Customs that
[32:23]exist anyway let's go back so the messenger of Allah said to
[32:25]her if you have taken an oath then beat it and if
[32:30]you have not then do not okay if you've taken an oath
[32:35]then beat it and if you've not then don't come back so
[32:41]she started to beat the doof and Abu Bakr comes and enters
[32:45]while she was beating okay here we have Abu Bakr coming and
[32:52]entering again let's see what happens then Ali entered while she was
[32:56]beating it now IM Alam also enters this wonderful scene then entered
[33:04]while she was beating it lovely history just put all four calips
[33:09]in one place no one else then Omar entered so she put
[33:16]the do under her and sat upon it the lady doesn't care
[33:24]is there but when is around she has to stop firstly are
[33:33]we saying Omar has more ta than here or is it just
[33:39]Omar probably ready to Lampo one if she doesn't you know that
[33:44]came towards the religion of Islam by slapping his sister and he
[33:49]could get quite angry with woman it's nothing really stops him let's
[33:53]go back then Omar entered so she put the do under and
[33:59]sat upon so the messenger of Allah said indeed Shan is afraid
[34:02]of you oh Omar I was sitting while she beat it and
[34:07]then Abu Bakr entered while she was beating it then Ali entered
[34:11]while she was beating it then entered while she was beating it
[34:15]then when you entered oh Omar she put away the door I
[34:26]don't know do I elaborate or do I not elaborate what do
[34:30]you think is it worth elaborating a lady is playing this Abu
[34:39]Bakr is like and she sees IM Ali no let's hide because
[34:52]is here now either that's because the other four that are mentioned
[34:56]are a lot more soft in their approach with people and not
[34:58]just want to smash people around men or woman or it's because
[35:05]Omar seemingly evokes more and reminder of and that's why it doesn't
[35:12]surprise me and I say this over and over again Islam's two
[35:18]pillars are as much as you want to say it's you know
[35:22]very well that the two you cannot touch in Sunni Islam are
[35:28]and Omar if they are root tool Allah If they raise their
[35:31]voice against rasol Allah if they fight the family of rasol Allah
[35:34]riding a camel you have to find a way of making excuses
[35:37]for them this is unreal we gotas s Al with a lady
[35:42]saying I want to play the drums for you he like okay
[35:44]cool and then we've got who are around who seemingly have no
[35:50]issue with this we're the ones Muslims 1400 years later told musicam
[35:54]Haram musical instruments Haram Haram n Haram dancing Haram everything's Haram but
[36:01]for why don't you continue to play the tambourine so we've got
[36:14]has dances at home Allah has people dancing for him outside companions
[36:22]protesting about this butas Allah say listen make an excuse for this
[36:28]but then even further than that we've now got that Omar evokes
[36:35]more of a response if the lady is doing nothing wrong why
[36:38]does she need to stop and if she is doing something wrong
[36:44]how is watching something being done wrong and allowing it to continue
[36:50]House of the Prophet there's dancing on the streets people dancing for
[36:56]him men and woman let's not just say it's men women as
[37:00]well then in his mosque there are people also playing their own
[37:04]dances now this I'd like to stop at this point because if
[37:09]we could play clip number one it'll give us some insight into
[37:12]a particular scene that's happening in the mosque of which I'd like
[37:21]all of you to be aware of the clip is in Arabic
[37:25]those of you who understand Arabic will try and understand some of
[37:28]the context let's please play clip number one for [Music] for for
[39:37]those who speak Arabic will understand that particular clip that clip is
[39:42]saying that on the day ofid a group of Ethiopians had their
[39:51]own particular cultural dance ritual and that they were dancing in the
[39:56]mosque of this was a particular particular type of dancing relating to
[40:05]their culture a folk particular dance and that is there and he
[40:11]wants to also be in the driving seat so that she could
[40:17]see what's taking place now there's a number of repercussions in relation
[40:22]to this Hadith I want to read the Hadith and then I
[40:27]want to relate it to our celebrations when it comes to very
[40:31]shortly come with me over here my dear brothers and sisters you
[40:38]all can see we are at all of you could see compiled
[40:42]by iMed volume 6 ofi number 3291 to 3956 translated by abui
[40:50]edited reference by final review by Islamic Research section daram when was
[40:59]this first edition November 2007 supervised by ABD mik mujah head office
[41:04]where RI okay all of you come here to Hadith 3691 okay
[41:09]if you look at the comments of course of the previous Hadith
[41:13]very interesting Allah had given Omar the distinction that even Shan was
[41:17]afraid of him and diverted his way whatever he saw him wherever
[41:19]he saw him she was only a slave girl and she was
[41:23]so afraid of Omar that she hid her do that was the
[41:26]Hadith before now come to this Hadith please 36 line one AA
[41:29]narrated that the messenger of Allah sallallahu alaih was sitting and we
[41:33]heard the scream and the voices of children so the message of
[41:38]Allah arose and it was an Ethiopian woman prancing around while the
[41:41]children played around her so he said OHA come and see so
[41:50]I came and I put my chin upon the shoulder of the
[41:53]messenger of Allah s and I began to watch her from between
[41:57]his shoulder and his head and he said to me have you
[42:01]had enough have you had enough she said so I kept saying
[42:07]no to see my status with him then Omar appeared she said
[42:11]so they dispersed she said so the messenger of Allah said indeed
[42:14]I see the amongst men and Jin have run from Omar she
[42:19]said so I returned I don't understand who's the prophet Omar or
[42:27]you have to help me here of the in run away from
[42:36]but when is there they're just chilling yeah this is in your
[42:40]right mind you accept this look for the sake of the fact
[42:45]that we have to respect all opinions and you know we don't
[42:47]want to hurt anyone's feelings you know we do live in a
[42:49]snowflake Society everyone gets hurt really quickly so for that sake I'm
[42:54]going to say this is your literature and this what you follow
[42:58]what we see is that in the mosque of there are these
[43:06]people who are finding it very normal to dance Ethiopians have their
[43:14]own song and AA has been told by the Prophet come and
[43:18]watch and the reference that's given is that this is a cultural
[43:24]dance or chant that they have if we can play clip number
[43:26]two you'll see another scholar who comments on the prophet and aa's
[43:31]relationship at this moment watching dancing take place in the MOs of
[44:26]was Allah for AA had that special position where she's able to
[45:36]see what's happening on the chest from the shoulder of and for
[45:45]them this is seen as being something of a compliment and you
[45:52]will see therefore that it's narrated within the Traditions everybody could see
[45:58]very clearly we have it right in front of us that these
[46:00]people are dancing around now it's interesting that Al has no problem
[46:05]with the Ethiopians who are dancing around in the mosque of because
[46:12]why because this is a celebration and it's related to their culture
[46:17]when therefore other Muslim groups have their particular celebrations why is it
[46:25]that automatically it is seen as an innovation why is it automatically
[46:30]seen as a negative for us the sh for example this week
[46:34]we celebrate and when we celebrate we are celebrating with for example
[46:40]men only in the crowd there's no Aban girls dancing around us
[46:45]we are not for example having people sitting there and playing the
[46:49]tambourines someone is reciting poetry in memory of Muhammad and Al Muhammad
[46:57]the holy household in remembering the blessings of Allah subhana wa ta'ala
[47:03]on that particular day and you'll find that some in our communities
[47:06]find it difficult to even enjoy this they're worried what others will
[47:10]think of them in celebrating but why are you worried when in
[47:17]the books of the Sunni school let watch the Ethiopians dance in
[47:25]his mosque without having having a single issue with this why because
[47:29]it's a day of Celebration why because it is their cultural practice
[47:33]and not going outside sh so why is it then when it
[47:38]comes to us the sh in our M and our and our
[47:43]IM Bargas and our maim what would be the issue if we
[47:50]have our particular cultural chants and cultural methods of remembering say someone
[47:55]for example now in the stands up and recites Ali Al and
[48:00]everybody is there and one person brings a tambourine and plays it
[48:05]if you want to come forward and say you are performing a
[48:08]or this is not allowed but I am seeing all over the
[48:12]place that you had Al sitting while people were either singing for
[48:17]him or people were dancing without coming forward and objecting on the
[48:24]contrary the would run away when would come in not when alai
[48:29]and that goes to show you that Omar has one point of
[48:34]view in this world and that alh has another point of view
[48:37]but for us suffice for us to say my dear brothers and
[48:43]sisters that we do not take this that puts Allah with dancers
[48:45]around him and thatas Allah sits at home with while there are
[48:51]girls singing and that asks for people to come and sing for
[48:54]him that is something that the other school has to clear with
[48:57]their and the other school has to clear with the image of
[49:03]where his image can be tainted so looks like the one whoan
[49:10]is afraid of but when it comes to maybe he could be
[49:16]affected at that moment inshallah join me next week as we continue
[49:20]to delve deeper into the heritage of the religion of Islam and
[49:24]the sear of the holy prophet peace be upon him and his
[49:28]family [Music] put a finger down if you have access to fresh
[49:46]water put a finger down if you have food in your fridge
[49:52]put a finger down if you have access to health care put
[49:55]a finger down if you have never lived in a water war
[49:59]zone put a finger down if you have family around you put
[50:03]a finger down if you have a warm bed to sleep in
[50:04]put a finger down if you have clothes in your wardrobe put
[50:10]a finger down if you have a roof over your head put
[50:12]a finger down if you have access to education put a finger
[50:18]down if you want to be part of changing the world oh
