[1:33]Imam Hussein TV, your gateway to Kbala.
[1:39]Hey, hey, hey.
[2:02]Where are in the name of God the most beneficent the most
[2:17]merciful.
[2:17]All praise is due to Allah, master of all the worlds.
[2:22]And peace and blessings be on all his prophets and especially the
[2:26]final prophet, the prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi.
[2:29]My respected brothers and sisters, why did I im Ali name his
[2:37]son Omar?
[2:39]a contentious issue and indeed one that has been the subject of
[2:42]some controversy for the past two decades when it comes to pmical
[2:46]discussions.
[2:47]You will see that many speakers, many lecturers, many muis, many scholars
[2:53]have come together to discuss this issue that if IM Ali had
[2:59]a problem with Abd and they had a clear difference of opinion
[3:02]as we have seen in numerous episodes, especially after what had happened
[3:06]at Sakifa, the pledge of allegiance, the difference between Imam Ali Zuber
[3:11]and Abu Bakr's government, the issue of FedE, and of course later
[3:18]on Abbas, the uncle of Im Ali Ali am coming in the
[3:20]middle between Imam Ali and Omar as we saw in Bkari and
[3:24]Muslim clearly there were many differences that they had after the holy
[3:27]prophet peace be upon him's family had passed away and of course
[3:30]in the narrative Omar Katab is responsible for the death of Fat
[3:36]Zaham he famously threatens as we have seen in the Sunni narrative
[3:39]as well to burn over the house of Fatham and in the
[3:43]Sunni world no one believes that he continued to do that and
[3:46]in the Shia world of There is a belief that that threat
[3:49]actually resulted in her death.
[3:53]So then why would I im Ali have a son named after
[3:56]Omar and then we see even within Shia literature that Im Ali
[4:02]Alisam also has a son who is named.
[4:04]And then to add to that, you'll see in Shia literature that
[4:09]one of Imam Ali Alisam's sons actually has the title of the
[4:14]first khalif and that is Abu Bakr.
[4:17]So therefore when Ashia is asked this question you'll find that two
[4:22]answers emerge.
[4:21]One answer is that some are quite surprised that Imam Ali has
[4:28]these sons with those names because most people know Imam Ali's sons
[4:34]as Hassan and Hussein and Muhammad Hanafi and for example Abd these
[4:39]are arguably the most famous sons of Imam Ali Ali in many
[4:46]Shia households.
[4:45]Very rare would anyone have heard that Imm Ali has a son
[4:51]called Omar or a son called man or a son called with
[4:53]the title or the ka Abu Bakr and so from one angle
[4:58]you'll find that the majority of the Shia would probably have not
[5:01]necessarily heard of this and then you'll find another angle that there
[5:05]might be some who actually even within the Shia school could say
[5:10]well if he has named these names maybe it is not an
[5:12]extreme situation that we have for for example, crystallized in our tradition
[5:17]or in our theology that Imam Ali and the Califfs were enemies
[5:22]of one another and that rather they got on with one another
[5:26]and that some of this is just from extremists of the Shia
[5:31]who tried to form this narrative.
[5:32]Now of course a person how do we reconcile this because there's
[5:35]no doubt that when one opens early Shia literature one doesn't just
[5:41]have to open something quite recent.
[5:42]If one was to open early Shia literature, you'll see that even
[5:46]within early Shia literature, there is already a discussion of the names
[5:49]of the children of Imam Ali Alisam.
[5:52]And quite clearly, not only does Im Ali Alisam have a son
[5:58]called Omar, but also a son called Oman and a son called
[5:59]with the title of Abu Bakr.
[6:03]Let's come over here and arguably one of the most famous early
[6:06]Shia works taking us back over a thousand years.
[6:10]Come with me my dear brothers and sisters.
[6:14]Here you will see of of course the book of guidance into
[6:18]the lives of the 12 imams by who?
[6:22]By muid one of the greatest scholars that we've had in our
[6:29]history.
[6:27]If you look over here, translated as you can see by IKA
[6:34]Howard, lecturer in Arabic and Islamic studies at the University of Edinburgh
[6:40]with a preface by with a preface by said Hussein Nas.
[6:43]If you come over here, you'll see that this is published by
[6:51]Ansarian publications as you can all see quite clearly and the year
[6:55]is of course going back to 2004 and the fourth reprint in
[6:59]2007.
[7:01]So if we come to about page 268, you'll come over here
[7:08]and you'll see chapter 8, the children of the commander of the
[7:12]faithful, the children of al-man.
[7:14]This is an account of the children of the commander of the
[7:19]faithful peace be upon him, their numbers or their number and names
[7:22]and a selection of reports about them.
[7:24]The commander of the faithful peace be upon him had 27 children.
[7:30]Okay.
[7:31]So the Imm had 27 children according to the work of Sheh
[7:38]Mufi.
[7:39]This probably second in the number I think the Imam with the
[7:47]most children is of course I imam where we have reports going
[7:52]into the 30s.
[7:51]But here she mued says that Im Amir alis he had 27
[7:58]children and these 27 children of course are coming from a number
[8:03]of uh different mothers.
[8:03]So we could say that Imam was married possibly seven times in
[8:06]his life.
[8:08]Of course historians differ but if we see over here the command
[8:13]of the faithful peace be upon him had 27 children male and
[8:16]female.
[8:17]Al Hassan, Al Hussein, Zanab the Elder, Zanab the younger who was
[8:24]given the okay so this over here this is like a a
[8:27]title that is given sometimes you'll see like in our communities for
[8:35]example here IM Hussein TV we have Abu Amir Abu Amir means
[8:37]he has a son by the name of Amir sometimes you'll find
[8:42]in the Arab communities that this of Abu It can refer to
[8:46]somebody and their eldest son.
[8:48]It could refer to somebody and what they've been known as for
[8:53]a while inq.
[8:52]If your name is, for example, Ahmed, they call you Abu Hab.
[8:58]And if your name is Falah, they'll call you Abu Hassan, for
[9:01]example.
[9:01]And someone like me, someone might call me, for example, because my
[9:05]name is Amar, they'll say Abu Yaser.
[9:07]Of course, Abu Yaser is not my name.
[9:11]My name is Amar.
[9:13]uh we're talking over here and I think this is very important
[9:15]for us to understand when we're discussing this issue.
[9:18]So if we come back here command of the faithful peace be
[9:21]upon him had 27 children male and female.
[9:23]Al Hassan al hussein zanab the elder and zanab the younger because
[9:26]sometimes zanam is known as kubra and is known as who was
[9:34]given the kaum.
[9:34]Their mother was Fat Zah, the blessed mistress of the woman of
[9:39]the worlds, daughter of the master of those sent by God and
[9:41]the seal of the prophets, the prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam.
[9:45]Number five of their children, Muhammad who was given the Abasim his
[9:49]mother was daughter of Jafar.
[9:55]Okay, that's the famous Muhammad Khan.
[9:58]Okay.
[9:57]Then number six, as you could see, Imam had a son called
[10:03]Omar.
[10:04]Number seven, they were twins.
[10:06]Their mother was daughter of Then of course you have over here
[10:12]Abbasman and Abdah.
[10:14]The last four were martyrs with their brother Al Hussein in the
[10:17]plains of Kbah.
[10:19]Their mother was banim daughter of bin Khaled.
[10:24]Then number 12 Muhammad the younger who was given the Abu Bakr.
[10:28]Okay.
[10:28]So now we have Abu Bakr as a title here.
[10:33]Previously we had Omar and we had over here in the brothers
[10:35]of Abbas if we go back here in the brothers of Abbas
[10:42]we'll see that had al Abbas Jaffar and Abdullah so we have
[10:47]an if we circle over here and we have Omar we circle
[10:55]over here and then number 12 we have Muhammad but who's given
[10:59]the title of Abu fall back.
[11:00]And then of course the rest of the names and then of
[11:06]course I suppose those are nice names for everybody out there who
[11:20]might be having a child very soon.
[11:23]All of these different names.
[11:23]Now when we come to it therefore when we look at this
[11:29]list of names within sheh mued we see that not only does
[11:33]Imam have a son called Omar but also the other califfs their
[11:36]names are mentioned over here and that's why you'll see videos everywhere
[11:39]saying that look the imam had no issue with the califfs he's
[11:43]even got children named after them what's wrong with you causing all
[11:46]this tension issues now of course we did say that the there's
[11:48]more than enough evidence of major problems between the imams and their
[11:52]worldview and of course the califfs and their worldviews and I've discussed
[11:56]it at length in the previous episodes but if I just begin
[12:01]by focusing on let's say those who say that Imam had a
[12:03]son by the name of Abu Bakr as I said earlier Abu
[12:06]Bakr is not the name of somebody rather it is a con
[12:13]as you can see over here Muhammad the younger that the boy's
[12:17]name was let's say Muhammad algar Muhammad the younger who was given
[12:21]the ka Abu Bakr.
[12:24]However, his name is what?
[12:25]Muhammad.
[12:26]Because even Abu Bakr, the first Khalifa, his name is not Abu
[12:29]Bakr.
[12:30]That's his title.
[12:33]That's the Ka.
[12:33]His actual name, we'll see, is completely different.
[12:38]Let's play clip number one.
[12:40]And you'll see this explanation of the original name of Abu Bakr.
[12:49]A lot of times I taught or spoke about Abu Bakr Sadik
[12:51]when I was teaching books of Sahabah and a lot of times
[12:54]I'll tell people what is his name and a lot of times
[12:55]people will come and they'll say Abu Bakr very few people know
[13:02]what his name was.
[13:00]So his name is Abdullahbn was his father.
[13:07]His father's was Abu Abdahbn and man's was Abu Tamen and he
[13:21]meets the prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam in the lineage of Mur
[13:25]he meets the prophet Muhammad sallallahu alaihi wasallam that's where their lineage
[13:31]comes together and he was the tribe of Alqur al Qur So
[13:36]therefore when a person says that Abu Bakr that Imam names his
[13:41]son after Abu Bakr no Abu Bakr's original name is Abdah.
[13:44]So if IM Ali Alisam was going to name his son after
[13:47]let's say after the first khalif then Im should have named him
[13:53]Abdullah Abu Bakr as the title.
[13:55]And as we can see again Mu explains even more clear that
[13:57]Abu Bakr's original name is not Abu Bakr but rather a different
[14:03]name.
[14:04]Please play clip number two.
[14:05]>> But some of us may not be aware of the fact
[14:09]that his real name was Abdullah.
[14:14]Abu Bakr was a pet name or a pen name something known
[14:16]as a kuna in the Arabic language.
[14:19]Soik was also a title given to him later on.
[14:25]Abdullah his father's name was man known also as Abu Kua.
[14:32]So he was known as Abdullahbn Abi Kufa or Abdullahn.
[14:39]So there again you see my dear brothers and sisters that we
[14:43]have Mu saying that Abu Bakr's name is Abdullah.
[14:46]Therefore those who say Imam Ali named his son after Abu Bakr
[14:48]no you would have to name him Abdullah because that's the name.
[14:50]Titles are everywhere in the Muslims.
[14:52]Some even have many titles.
[14:55]Abd Hassan for Imam Abd Hass Abb Hussein so many titles can
[14:58]be given but as for the first khalif his original name is
[15:03]Abdullah now how about Omar because when it comes to Omar there
[15:09]is this question that Im Ali named his son Omar and you've
[15:12]seen the literature that mentions the name Omar however when you open
[15:16]a lot of the traditions you'll find that actually the son's name
[15:23]in a number of traditions I'm going to show you is and
[15:26]I can show this quite clearly because one Shia opinion which has
[15:32]been posited by scholars is that Omar who is mentioned for example
[15:36]by al- Mu they say that this Omar is named after Omar
[15:43]bin Mr the son of Salama that was the opinion of one
[15:46]group of Shia scholars if you were to actually look in the
[15:49]literature you'll find that this son of Im Ali in a lot
[15:57]of the hadiths is not called Omar but rather known as if
[16:01]I look over here all of you join me over here my
[16:03]dear brothers and sisters of course um in the hadith and the
[16:10]of the famous Abi okay all of you can see over here
[16:17]this is the seventh volume of the maf of Abi if we
[16:19]look over here as you can See my dear brothers and sisters
[16:24]all of you can see over here that this is from Beirut
[16:29]and the year that this is published is when is in 2017.
[16:33]If we go to a couple of the hadiths that are mentioned
[16:38]over here you'll see my dear brothers and sisters that we don't
[16:42]actually see that the name is Omar rather the name is look
[16:49]over here.
[16:50]So you've got this hadith over here hadith number 36,012 in the
[16:56]maf of Iba the chain of the narrations as you can see
[17:02]Muad and he's taken it from MS who's taken it from Muhammad
[17:08]bin Ali and Ali okay so we have over here Muhammad the
[17:13]son of Amu the son of Ali now here it's interesting Interesting
[17:19]that we see that what's being mentioned is rather that his name
[17:25]is and not Omar.
[17:26]And again if you continue my dear brothers and sisters if you
[17:32]come over here to hadith number 37,000 if we go over here
[17:35]okay we go to hadith number 37,234.
[17:40]Again this accusation that he is named Omar you'll see over here
[17:49]in this chain hadith number 37,234 in the maf of Ibisha Abu
[17:57]from Abdah bin Muhammad bin bin Ali Abdah bin Muhammad bin Ali
[18:08]doesn't say Abdullah has taken from Muhammad bin Omar bin Ali rather
[18:17]says Muhammad bin bin Ali and therefore for years many who had
[18:20]tried to defend this idea or many who had to try and
[18:25]find different ways actually the name of that boy is rather than
[18:28]Omar is a plausible explanation when I look at these chains I'm
[18:31]seeing that says Amu the son of Ali and not Omar the
[18:36]son of Ali now someone could say well that's just the maf
[18:40]of Ibish That's only one reference that's given that says the son
[18:45]of Ali why don't you just stick to Omar son of Ali
[18:50]even though it says Ali but then again when I looked in
[18:52]which work I looked in the j of we know very well
[18:58]that the jam of is one of the sixkari come with me
[19:04]over here the English translation of jammedi compiled by imafa muhammad ib
[19:11]Volume 4 from hadith number 1897 to 2605 translated by Abu Khalil.
[19:20]A hadith edited and referenced by Haf Abu Taher Ali final review
[19:24]by Islamic research section Dam.
[19:25]If we come over here my dear brothers and sisters first edition
[19:29]November 2007 supervised by Abd Malik Mujahid head office Riyad Saudi Arabia
[19:38]Dar Salam global leader if you come over here let's go to
[19:43]2000 hadith 2210 again I want to see is there an Omar
[19:51]son of Ali in the chain or is it or is it
[19:51]let's come again over here hadith 2210 10.
[19:56]Come with me over here.
[20:00]Chapter 38.
[19:59]What has been related about the signs of the occurrence of the
[20:06]transformation and the collapse of the earth?
[20:09]Okay, this is of course the chapter.
[20:14]Hadith number 2,210.
[20:32]Now I find this very interesting.
[20:37]Here it's written Muhammad bin Omarb Ali.
[20:40]In the other tradition you'll see it was Muhammad son of Amu.
[20:47]Here in this edition of you'll find that again they've gone back
[20:53]to Omar.
[20:56]In another edition why is this the case?
[21:00]Why is this the case?
[21:01]There is a big difference between Omar and for what reason does
[21:07]the Maf of Iba have am?
[21:08]And this edition has Omar.
[21:10]And that's why even in another edition of I saw that was
[21:16]written and not Omar.
[21:16]Why is it that there is this play going on with the
[21:25]spelling of Omar just to push further the idea that his name
[21:29]was Omar and not Am.
[21:32]And so you see here in Termi we have over here again
[21:38]I come back and Muhammad Omar whereas in the maf of Ibisha
[21:41]if we come back to the maf again my dear brothers and
[21:45]sisters I want to put these side by side when you come
[21:47]back to the maf of iba you will see how there is
[21:53]a clear difference in spelling in both those hadith if I just
[21:56]pick one of them for example now 37,234 look at the difference
[22:03]if we can bring the difference together on the camera my dear
[22:06]staff behind behind the scenes.
[22:10]If you try and zoom in as much as you can over
[22:11]here.
[22:12]Okay.
[22:13]So, you see over here Omar all of you can see Muhammad
[22:21]Omar.
[22:22]Everyone can see Muhammad Omar Ali.
[22:27]Whereas over here, what does it say?
[22:35]and Abdullah ib Muhammad bin Amu bin Ali and I showed you
[22:40]two chains in the Mah of Iba where we have the name
[22:41]Amra or Amu because some even said that even that name Omar
[22:48]some said that this is rather than Omar others said but look
[22:51]even in these different additions the idea that it's Omar why are
[22:56]there traditions and chains therefore with the name rather than the name
[23:01]what rather than the name Omar.
[23:02]So what you can see is something quite interesting here and that
[23:06]is that sometimes these things are political play.
[23:09]Sometimes you'll have people who will sell their souls.
[23:13]They want to push a certain idea and in pushing this idea
[23:15]even if they seem in front of them but because they want
[23:20]to push the idea that Imam Ali has a son called Omar
[23:21]and we want justify in every way they're willing to even change
[23:25]part of the text.
[23:26]And it happened before with the Jews and the Christians in terms
[23:30]of what the Quran says they may have done to their literature
[23:33]in doing for alteration of the text.
[23:36]What I found also very interesting is that also this happens with
[23:40]Imam Hassam.
[23:42]Sometimes you'll find people will say that Im Hassan also had a
[23:45]son by the name of Omar.
[23:48]So they say Imam Ali has a son by the name of
[23:49]Omar.
[23:49]Imm Hassan has a son by the name of Omar.
[23:52]And again I investigated this.
[23:53]I wanted to see that if I open say Bkari or Muslim
[23:56]to see whether a son of IM Hassan has narrated from him
[24:02]and whether his name is Amu or no.
[24:03]Come with me over here my dear brothers and sisters alkari the
[24:07]translation of the meanings of sah bkari Arabic English over here we
[24:12]have this particular edition which is edition number volume number one I'd
[24:16]like to go to first the translation of the meanings of albkari
[24:18]Arabic English volume number one a hadith 1 to 875 translated by
[24:28]Dr.
[24:25]Muhammad Musin Khan Dar Salam publishers and distributors printed in July 1997
[24:33]printing supervised by Abdul Malik Mujah all of you can see over
[24:41]here Bkari volume number one if we go to hadith number 560
[24:44]in Sah Bkari let's all go to hadith number 560 in Bkari
[24:48]again I want to see this chain that people who say that
[24:53]Im Hassan also had a son called Omar let's see in this
[24:57]chain in Bkari about this.
[24:58]Come with me over here.
[25:00]Now when we see over here hadith number 560, the chapter is
[25:04]as you can see at the top here, the book of the
[25:09]times of salah.
[25:08]Hadith 560.
[25:22]But here's what we have.
[25:26]Muhammad Ami or Muhammad Hassb Ali.
[25:34]Those who say that Im Hassan has a son called Omar.
[25:41]I'm looking over here again and I'm seeing that there is not
[25:44]Omar over here either.
[25:46]Am all of you can see over here this word.
[25:50]You can see therefore again here we have this idea that's pushed
[25:57]that the imams are naming their sons Omar I've seen in the
[26:01]maf of Abisha in Bkari in this chain okay this particular chain
[26:05]from hadith number 560 so again we have why is it then
[26:23]we saying that his son is Omar from Abi saying that Im
[26:26]Ali's son called Im Hass again when it comes to him they
[26:31]push the idea that Im Hassan has a son called Omar and
[26:33]again here I'm seeing in Bkari that his son's name is and
[26:38]I thought well is it only Bkari would Muslim also agree that
[26:41]Imam Hassan's son's not called Omar but rather Imam Hassan's son's called
[26:45]Amu come with me over here my dear brothers and sisters let's
[26:49]go over here so if We come to Sah Muslim.
[26:50]My dear brothers and sisters, we come to Sah Muslim and we
[26:54]come to volume two of Sah Muslim compiled by Imam Abdul Hussein.
[26:59]Muslim volume two from a hadith number 1161 to 2262.
[27:07]A hadith edited and referenced by Abu Zub translated by Katab in
[27:15]Canada.
[27:14]Final review by who?
[27:17]By Abu Khalil.
[27:16]First edition June 2007 supervised by Abd Malik Mujah as you can
[27:23]all see over here translated by Nas.
[27:25]If we go ins Muslim to around page 143 look over here
[27:36]my dear brothers and sisters okay if you come over here you
[27:39]will see my dear brothers and sisters the massagid and places of
[27:46]prayer that's the chapter page 143 of Muslim 1460233 646 Abu Bakrnu
[28:05]Next.
[28:06]Who's next in the chain?
[28:16]Hassi.
[28:18]Now again it is not Omar the son of Im Hassan.
[28:22]Again we have here there's a difference between and Omar Omar amu
[28:34]even there is a big difference between the two in Bkari and
[28:43]Muslim IM's son is not Omar in the maf of Iba Im
[28:46]Ali's son is Amu and not Omar so therefore when This idea
[28:53]is pushed that Imm Ali has named his sons after Omar.
[28:56]In Sunni literature, you're seeing very clearly that Imam Ali's son is
[29:03]not Omar.
[29:02]And I've given two of the most important early texts.
[29:06]We all know the maf of Iban Abi Sha and of course
[29:11]Bkari and Muslim.
[29:11]We're going back over a thousand years.
[29:12]We're going back to the first couple of hundred years of the
[29:15]history of the religion of Islam.
[29:18]So therefore when someone comes and tells you Imam Ali named his
[29:21]son after Abu Bakr say Abu Bakr is a title Abu Bakr's
[29:23]original name is Abdullah you have to prove to me that Imam
[29:27]Ali named his son Abdullah after as for Omar I've shown you
[29:30]am now how about we saw in the it was mentioned that
[29:39]Imam also named his son what also named his son and this
[29:43]has been of course something which has always been pushed and Even
[29:46]when we give the lectures in Muharam people like myself when we
[29:53]come to the m of fbam and his brothers we say that
[29:57]got killed and marted on the 10th of Muharam and his brother
[30:00]and his brother and his brother Abdah or his brother Jaffar.
[30:03]So we mention this and sometimes someone in the crowd might listen
[30:07]and say hold on Abd Abbas's brothers called and Im Ali clearly
[30:11]there's tensions clearly there's issues so how would Im Ali name his
[30:17]son there's an interesting section which actually explains this if you join
[30:22]me let's go to okay so if we go to my dear
[30:28]brothers and sisters to okay all of you can see over Here
[30:34]uh the work of said of course the is being done by
[30:40]as you can see if you just go back to the book
[30:45]please let's just go to front cover please at the beginning if
[30:47]you just look here the just there just there just scroll down
[30:53]a little yeah just there the byhmed and of course you can
[30:57]see okay all of you know it very well in Beirut, Lebanon.
[31:02]If we just scroll a little bit, my dear brothers and sisters,
[31:05]let's scroll a little bit and you'll see the year of the
[31:12]addition.
[31:09]Okay, so if you just go over here, you'll see that over
[31:15]here, if you just go up a little bit.
[31:19]Yeah, just there.
[31:17]The year is 2006 of this edition of I just want to
[31:24]go to about page 89.
[31:27]If we could just move to page 89.
[31:29]Okay, join me on page 89, my dear brothers and sisters.
[31:30]is just over here.
[31:33]If you see over here this particular part, if you just scroll
[31:38]down a little just there.
[31:43]All of you can see this particular name.
[31:48]And Imm is explaining here.
[31:59]I have named him after who?
[32:04]I have named him after my brother bin M.
[32:09]Go back to it again one more time.
[32:15]Why did I imi name his son?
[32:16]You could see it clear.
[32:20]My dear brothers and sisters, the hadith is there.
[32:25]Who is his brother?
[32:28]Come back to me.
[32:30]Who is Osman bin M?
[32:33]Bin M was one of the earliest converts to the religion of
[32:36]Islam.
[32:36]He was one of the first people to convert.
[32:40]And there is a hadith about him that this man was a
[32:44]person who in the days of Jah, no Islam has been spread,
[32:49]no Islam has been announced anywhere.
[32:51]In the days of Jahalia, this person never drank alcohol while everyone
[32:57]else did.
[32:58]This person never committed shik while others were worshiping idols.
[33:06]This person never lied in any of his transactions, public or personal,
[33:11]while everybody else did.
[33:13]And this person never committed zs.
[33:17]This man when I imam has a son called he has named
[33:24]him after as you can see in of that imam is saying
[33:32]I named him after my brother he doesn't say my companion rather
[33:36]he names him as his brother why sayman mad was say 12th
[33:41]or 14th or 15th convert to the religion those early days those
[33:44]sahaba who converted early these people went through the most severe persecution.
[33:49]Those Sahaba who are amongst the earliest to convert are completely different
[33:53]from those who even converted five six years after Islam was announced.
[33:56]They are the ones who face faced trial and tribulation.
[34:01]And amongst them was thisman bin which shows us another thing.
[34:04]There's not just one man in Islamic history who as soon as
[34:10]you hear the name, it has to be them.
[34:13]I love M and at the end of the day I could
[34:20]love Omar M.
[34:16]I do not have to say that orban have a free hold
[34:23]on their names and that nobody else can have those names except
[34:27]them.
[34:28]There are companions of the holy prophet peace be upon him's family
[34:35]who had those names who the b loved and so what's wrong
[34:37]if I now remember and I want to name my son after
[34:43]him as we see in so what I have over here is
[34:48]that for all of these names of these califfs the sh scholars
[34:51]came forward with their research and their opinion so as I said
[34:55]one group said these names are not owned by someone as the
[35:00]freehold and that nobody else is allowed to have those names.
[35:02]At the end of the day, you can have somebody who is
[35:07]named after someone amongst those people who had that name.
[35:10]Could be a good person or a bad person.
[35:12]Someone once said that you Shia you'll never name after people who
[35:20]are bad.
[35:22]That will never happen to you.
[35:23]I give you an example.
[35:26]I know someone called Hashem.
[35:26]If I know someone called Hashem, does that mean that they're named
[35:30]after Hisham bin Abd Malik or they could be named after Hisham
[35:33]Abdakam?
[35:34]Hisham, the name by itself is not necessarily the bad name.
[35:39]We're not talking a name like the hyena or the dog that
[35:45]barks or or or we are talking Hashem.
[35:47]Hasham could be Hashb or it could be Hashbik.
[35:53]There are Shiawa called Hashem.
[35:57]No one owns the freehold on that name.
[35:59]Okay.
[35:58]Someone says, "Give me another example.
[36:00]I know Shiawa called Harun.
[36:03]Does that mean he's named after Harun Rashid or Nebi Harun?" Someone
[36:09]says, "Give me another example.
[36:10]I know Shia called Mansour.
[36:14]Does that mean he's named after Mansour or just the name Mansour?"
[36:20]I also know Shia by the way who are named Maruan and
[36:26]Ziad.
[36:25]There are Shia I've met personally who are called Maruan and Zad.
[36:31]That name by itself is not a bad name who it's associated
[36:37]with because of the incident of Israel.
[36:40]And that's why you may have certain acts even in Islamic law.
[36:43]Some people will say this is haram because of what happened in
[36:47]this context.
[36:46]Yes, if you don't want to do it, don't do it.
[36:50]But that particular context is not the only moment that makes that
[36:53]thing become awful or bad.
[36:56]So if I meet someone called Marwan, am I going to name
[36:59]my child Marwan?
[37:01]No, I'm not.
[37:00]But if I see someone has named their child Marwan, the name
[37:06]by itself is not an issue.
[37:07]But Marwan Hakim dominates it because in our narrative we saw what
[37:11]he did to the religion of Islam or Zad for example.
[37:15]So therefore there are Shia who are named after personalities who may
[37:21]have been the worst in a particular context but that doesn't mean
[37:28]the name is necessarily an awful name.
[37:30]So you had this second third some of the as I said
[37:33]they said it's not Omar it's Abu Bakr is a title it
[37:39]is not a name his name is Abdullah fourth again they gave
[37:45]justifications in different ways but ultimately ultimately there is no way through
[37:50]names that you can justify someone's behaviors because at the end of
[37:54]the day there is too many points to may be made about
[37:57]a man who calls the prophet delirious when the prophet asks for
[37:59]a pen and paper.
[38:01]A man who's rude to the prophet on so many occasions and
[38:04]a man who was rude and abrasive towards the holy household after
[38:09]the death of the prophet.
[38:10]That's more than enough for us.
[38:10]So when we look at all of these, these are enough points
[38:15]to take on.
[38:14]Now someone might say that sometimes I might see for example some
[38:21]of the companions of the imams of who have names such as
[38:28]Muawia such as man okay and so on and so forth and
[38:32]yes that's true and again then how do we explain that because
[38:35]if somebody for example if I bring out over here a work
[38:38]such as the monumental work of over here as you can see
[38:45]the monumental Work of S.
[38:46]Hussein al-Mudi tradition and survival a bibliographical survey of early Shia literature
[38:53]volume one.
[38:54]If I come over here, of course, published by one world Oxford.
[38:58]If I continue over here, my dear brothers and sisters, Hussein Mudarasi
[39:03]2000 and three.
[39:07]When we look at the contents of all of Imam Ali's companions
[39:11]and the early Shia which we have over here especially those who
[39:14]had books um and books of narrations and books of law and
[39:19]so on and so forth and theology you will see over here
[39:22]that you've got all of these classic names such as such as
[39:28]and so on and so forth and then you might come across
[39:33]certain names of the companions of the B if I to pick
[39:37]one.
[39:36]For example, let me pick over here number 67b.
[39:41]Okay, if you go to on page 231, this person is known
[39:50]as one of the most prolific narrators in the Shia school and
[39:57]he's one of the names mentioned by you come over here 67
[40:03]Omar auith transmitter who was appointed by Harun Rashid as the judge
[40:11]of the eastern half of Baghdad in 177, a position he held
[40:14]for two years.
[40:15]He was then appointed as the judge of Kufa and served in
[40:18]that position for 13 years.
[40:21]He died in 194 at the age of 77.
[40:22]Okay.
[40:23]Notwithstanding his anti-imite rhetoric, some of which are recorded in sources, he
[40:29]had certain pro- Ali sympathies as attested by his transmissions on the
[40:33]virtues of Imam Ali Alisam and was a transmitter of hadith from
[40:35]Jaffar and a number of the Imams Imami scholars such as Abu
[40:41]Hazami.
[40:41]He was also a main source of material from Ali Alam on
[40:44]legal matters in Sunni tradition.
[40:45]Havs was born in 117.
[40:49]Okay.
[40:48]Thor's assumption that he met Muhammad Bakam is therefore wrong.
[40:52]HS in fact always called Muhammad Bak through intermedi such as Abisha.
[40:57]Now my point is that his name is Abu Omar and okay
[41:05]reports that Habs quoted some three to 4,000 hadiths in Kuf Baghdad
[41:11]from memory without using any written record.
[41:14]He also had a notebook of reports he heard from Imam Assam.
[41:17]It was this material that made Shia as scholars interested in this
[41:21]transmitter.
[41:21]A notebook of some 170 reports that Haps had heard from Saddak
[41:25]related from the author by a number of transmitters including his above
[41:28]mentioned son Omar Sunni sources to quote some of H's transmissions.
[41:35]Okay.
[41:34]quotations from Jaffing Sunni and Shia works on authority all obviously derived
[41:38]from notebook in question including the following works from the Sunni works
[41:42]you have all of these zi works imi works the mahass of
[41:45]course of um all of them are taking from this particular narrator
[41:55]now when I see some of those companions like him like Muawi
[41:59]okay bin Amar for example um and others a person might say
[42:05]well how comes these people have these names some of these were
[42:08]converts you have Christian converts who became Shia you have Sunni converts
[42:12]the word Sunni of course I use with a small s at
[42:16]that time you can't say it was always sunni necessarily had all
[42:18]crystallized clearly as um as that particular dichotomy for example what you
[42:23]have is that some of these are converts from Christianity to Islam
[42:29]and some are from Sunni to Islam okay and so therefore they
[42:31]are coming from a particular world where these names were normal for
[42:35]their parents to name.
[42:35]Others may have been done in as well.
[42:37]Some people to survive.
[42:41]I remember reading that some people would not name Ali because of
[42:45]the hate to Im Ali Alaiam.
[42:46]So they would say Ole they would actually call somebody instead of
[42:52]Ali and many of the scholars have always mentioned the hatred to
[42:55]the narrator who brings the merits of Ali let alone to someone
[42:58]whose son is called Ali.
[43:02]So therefore sometimes even in Shiaism when somebody had these names that
[43:06]was a period of dissimulation as well on the first level no
[43:09]one has a free hold on that name on the second level
[43:12]it was a period of dissimulation and that's why when we look
[43:15]over here we'll see my dear brothers and sisters if you come
[43:20]back over here you'll see that these other names also emerge again
[43:24]so if I look over here and I go to Muawibar all
[43:27]of you can see Muawi Amar And all of you can also
[43:32]see over here bin wahab.
[43:33]Okay.
[43:34]So you've got muawya amongst those who are the companions of the
[43:38]some of these are converts.
[43:39]Some say well nobody deserves to have that name by themselves and
[43:42]so on and so forth.
[43:45]Here we have for example Omarbazidi.
[43:47]Imagine you put that combination together and you'll see that a lot
[43:52]of people will not understand how these names are being used.
[43:55]Again there are converts there are people in this was there at
[43:58]that time and again we don't know how many of these have
[44:02]even been changed in all honesty like we saw earlier calls him
[44:05]Omar the other calls him all of these are open to question
[44:08]and another interesting aspect which Shia scholars have put forward as to
[44:14]why the B would never name their names or name their children's
[44:17]names after these particular personalities is because you see traditions even from
[44:23]the B about ensuring that your kids aren't named after those who
[44:27]cause difficulty or trouble to the followers of I remember meeting once
[44:31]somebody and they had a really big predicament because they had a
[44:34]um a name it was and of course you might have someone
[44:38]from the companions of Im might have a name like that or
[44:43]you might have bas Hussein and Kabala so sometimes people may use
[44:48]this name and it can refer to two different ways but if
[44:51]you look over here in alki I'd like to look at this
[44:52]hadith in Alkafi Arabic English bilingual translation Abu Jafar Muhammad Kulini all
[44:58]of you can see over here volume six of this particular edition
[45:04]of Al Kafi the year is of course 2024 when this was
[45:06]done as you can see translated by Muhammad Sawar Jaffari propagation center
[45:11]if we go to hadith 4,800 and if we go to page
[45:19]4848 let's go to page 4848 my dear brothers and sisters and
[45:22]you'll see over here this interesting hadith.
[45:25]Okay, so hadith number 12 and the interesting title of the chapter
[45:29]is the book of laws about the newborn.
[45:32]Hadith number 12.
[45:35]Let's come over here and we'll see my brothers and sisters that
[45:38]over here you have imbakis once wanted to visit one of his
[45:42]followers because he was ill.
[45:48]He the im told me to follow him.
[45:51]Okay.
[45:52]So, Jabar Abdal is narrating Jabar who said the following.
[45:54]Okay.
[45:55]This narration as you could see my dear brothers and sisters over
[46:02]here.
[46:02]Jabar is narrating this either Jaffy or Jabdah.
[46:06]I'll come back to it shortly.
[46:08]Jabar who said the following Abu Jaffar once wanted to visit one
[46:12]of his followers because he was ill.
[46:13]He the imam told me to follow him and I followed the
[46:16]imam.
[46:17]When the Imam arrived at the door at his door, his small
[46:23]son came out and Abu Jaffar asked, "What's your name?" He replied,
[46:27]"It is Ali." Abu Jaffar then said, "You have fortified." If we
[46:33]just go back here, just come back here, my dear brothers and
[46:37]sisters.
[46:37]When the imam arrived at his door, his small son came out
[46:39]and Abu Jafar asked, "What's your name?" He replied, "It is Muhammad
[46:42]sallallahu alaihi wasall." He the imam then asked what is your he
[46:47]replied it is Ali Abu Jahar then said you have fortified yourself
[46:55]against shaitan very intensely when shan hears someone calling oh Muhammad oh
[47:00]Ali shan melts like lead until he hears someone calling with the
[47:05]names of our enemies he becomes excited and swaggers very interesting come
[47:12]back again jabber has narrated the following from Imm Bakr.
[47:15]Okay.
[47:15]So, IM Bakar has gone to someone's house.
[47:17]That person was ill.
[47:19]He the Imam told me to follow him and I followed him.
[47:21]When the imam arrived at his door, his small son came out
[47:25]and I im Bak asked him, "What's your name?" He replied, "It
[47:27]is Muhammad." He the Imam asked, "What's your ka?" He said, "It's
[47:30]Ali." Abu Jaffer then said, "You have fortified yourself against Shayan very
[47:34]intensely." When shan hears someone calling, oh Muhammad, oh Ali, imagine you
[47:41]are a father at home and you're like Muhammad Ali Muhammad Ali
[47:48]come here.
[47:47]Listen to what happens melts like lead until he hears someone calling
[47:54]with the names of our enemies.
[47:56]He becomes excited and swaggers.
[47:59]So it's very interesting here on the importance of the names and
[48:02]that's why some scholars said there's no way that the would name
[48:07]after their enemies.
[48:08]Others said no they could name after someone who was good who
[48:11]had that name.
[48:11]Irrespective there's more than enough evidences that are presented that they gave
[48:16]their reasons for the naming.
[48:23]Hey, hey, hey.
