[5:21]by the dawn and by ten nights and by the even and

[5:26]the odd and by the night when it passes is there not

[5:29]in all that an oath sufficient for one of perception have you

[5:33]not considered how your lord dealt with ahad with imran had lofty

[5:40]pillars the likes of whom had never been created in the land

[5:42]and with namood who who carved out the rocks in the valley

[5:46]and with farahun owner of the stakes all of whom oppressed within

[5:53]the lands and increased therein the corruption so your lord poured upon

[5:59]them a scourge of punishment indeed your lord is an observation and

[6:02]as for man when his lord tries him and thus is generous

[6:06]to him and favors him he says my lord has honored me

[6:10]but when he tries him and restricts his provision he says my

[6:14]lord has humiliated me no but you have you do not have

[6:19]the honor no but you do not honor the orphan and you

[6:23]do not encourage one another to feed the poor salah muhammad muhammad

[7:07]i want to give another salawat for the beautiful recitation of abdul

[7:16]rahman and subscribe and now help me welcome to the podium sister

[7:21]man almighty with a short poetry recitation after a loud start for

[7:50]the love of imam hussain the very loudest of your salawats my

[7:59]dearest sisters and brothers the poem i'll be reciting to you today

[8:06]is entitled revolutionary revolutionary the taste of the word as it takes

[8:13]flight off of my tongue satisfying vying to fight for the good

[8:17]and rid of the evil notions that set my face ablaze with

[8:21]purpose but easy do words come into emptiness many vows to come

[8:29]revolution after revolution friends and foe peace from amidst uproar but neverlasting

[8:34]always quick ending a cycle of standing and falling where do i

[8:41]find a revolution undying the sands of karb and bala echo a

[8:47]reply drenched in the tears of millions one name i can hear

[8:51]them cry hussain hussain to whom tolerable was all pain and of

[8:54]little importance was worldly gain hussein hussain to whom tolerable was all

[9:00]pain and of little importance was worldly gain in the face of

[9:03]the love of the infinite all was insignificant the bounds of place

[9:09]in time his sacrifice to defying a revolution in his name i

[17:58]and sisters now we will have another round of poetry uh please

[18:02]help me welcome sister father najdi to the podium after a loud

[18:13]start can everyone hear me well inshallah yeah okay if i can

[18:36]please ask for allah muhammad [Music] foreign inshallah this poem is about

[19:14]imam alibn and he's in the heavens watching the events of karbala

[19:18]unfold before him if i can please ask for one loud unified

[19:20]salawat allah muhammad ali muhammad there are ten nights that pass yearly

[19:33]each paints a picture for me they are all infested with hurt

[19:37]in the end hussein is in dirt i cry but never alone

[19:42]i hear ali's roar that breaks bone in the heavens i hear

[19:46]him scream he is watching hussein's bloodstream in the heavens i hear

[19:52]him scream he is watching hussain's bloodstream his roar is known to

[19:55]be a wait know that it is ali who is the great

[19:57]if he battled with valor i tell you he screams with honor

[20:01]i hear his roar ali's made my ear soar a father wailing

[20:05]over his son a picture my heart and mind have stolen there

[20:10]is no sound that competes ali's roar can break mountain peaks ali

[20:14]roared and i saw the air thicken cracked of the skies of

[20:19]heaven the sound of his roar took me back to when i

[20:21]heard the rib of fatima crack hussein died and ali was ignited

[20:25]as if the sun falls and earth is blasted no whale or

[20:29]scream is stronger ali's roar was karbala's anchor hussein has fallen and

[20:33]scorching sand so ali yearned to buy him stand i hurry i

[20:39]hear his roar ali's made my ear sore a father wailing over

[20:41]his son a picture my heart and mind has stolen the heavens

[20:46]that carried ali that day held on to god's throne so it

[20:50]wouldn't sway we see wood burn from a simple flame so picture

[20:54]ali screaming hussein's name what breaks and what has not zainab finds

[20:58]comfort and why ali brought ali roars just as a volcano erupts

[21:02]and the peace within the earth's core disrupts there was no moon

[21:06]that didn't shake there was no moon that didn't shake all is

[21:08]broken if ali is in heartache when i heard his roar thunder

[21:11]i stood in a flood of ali's anger i hear his roar

[21:15]ali's made my ear sore a father wailing over his son a

[21:20]picture my heart and mind have stolen let hussein's enemies be afraid

[21:25]let hussein's enemies be afraid if with ali's wrath all have decayed

[21:31]imagine what will happen from god's anger on that day of reckon

[21:32]if with ali's wrath they all shook what will be one to

[21:37]god's wrath they look if with ali's wrath they all shook what

[21:39]will be when to god's wrath they look ali stood proud of

[21:43]hussein but has hurt the depths of oceans can't contain nothing can

[21:47]imitate his roar nothing can imitate his roar tell me can anything

[21:51]imitate khaibar he is one of a kind just like his son

[21:57]so as for his roar there can only be one i hear

[21:59]his roar ali's made my ears soar a father wailing over his

[22:04]son a picture my heart and mind have stolen nothing withstood ali's

[22:09]hurt nothing withstood ali's hurt this sight breaks even heaven's comfort everything

[22:12]mighty is disrupted all eyes wish they were blinded is there a

[22:17]moment heavier does another moment conquer ali watch the events unfold screaming

[22:21]where is my blindfold and to come and aid him ali had

[22:26]wished but by the same animals he was abolished ali roars and

[22:29]thunder is jealous ali roars and thunder is jealous there is no

[22:35]help this roar is furious did pain make ali scream or did

[22:39]ali make pain scream did pain make ali scream or did ali

[22:43]make pain scream his roar brought unity among nature to survive everything

[22:48]held on to each other hussein is welcomed into the heavens by

[22:53]the grand roar that deafens they should have taken note of ali's

[22:55]might before attacking his son's light and the angel of death the

[23:01]angel of death was envious of ali the angel of death was

[23:05]envious of ali because when those men died who did they see

[23:08]the angel of death was envious of ali because when those men

[23:14]died who did they see when hussein's enemies died ali's roar they

[30:22]lecture on islam he is a graduate from the university of colorado

[30:26]with a degree in molecular biology and psychology hajj hassanine recently moved

[30:33]to dearborn from new york where he founded the tophate institute and

[30:36]ran a successful internet company called netsite corporation which specializes in e-commerce

[30:42]and e-business is also the director of camp taha the world's first

[30:46]muslim-owned camp located in columbia michigan he is currently the founder and

[30:51]director of wise academy a private college prep school which i personally

[30:57]did attend please help me welcoming our dear brother muhammad muhammad this

[31:15]is too much in my face i'm not that tall i begin

[32:37]in allah's name the beneficent of the merciful all praise belongs to

[32:40]allah for granting us this life and giving us the opportunity to

[32:46]represent him on this earth as moral upright individuals and the main

[32:51]impetus for our existence is purely because allah is merciful he created

[32:56]us because he is merciful there is no other reason why we

[33:03]exist allah in the quran says allah has enjoined upon himself mercy

[33:09]and mercy is a very powerful reality you know when we look

[33:15]at the asma al-husna which are the divine names of god which

[33:19]are the characteristics that we define this infinite being for we can

[33:26]rationally come to an infinite being but we need to understand the

[33:30]function of the infinite being the function of infinity it's the only

[33:36]way this universe can exist is because there has to be an

[33:39]ever living being the question we ask in science is is this

[33:42]a being is it a force is it a cognitive being is

[33:47]it a being that has intentions goals or is it just a

[33:53]force and it's a force that doesn't communicate with us you know

[33:59]some people believe in that idea the deistic idea necessarily or even

[34:02]those who don't believe in god say that there is a force

[34:07]but it's not god but we know that the reason we know

[34:11]allah exists not only from a rational position that there has to

[34:15]be a being to create this universe but we are all grounded

[34:19]within the moral argument of cause and effect and we are highly

[34:23]intentional beings in fact in the court of law if a person

[34:27]commits murder even if you have all the evidence of the act

[34:33]you can still not incriminate or necessarily pass a judgment that this

[34:36]person is guilty unless there was a willful intent to commit the

[34:42]act so if the act is committed but the intent wasn't there

[34:46]then they may be set free or they may have a lower

[34:53]sentencing so intention in the at your deeds are built on your

[35:01]intentions and that everything has a goal [Music] he creates makes it

[35:11]complete gives it direction you know and guides it to its intended

[35:16]direction so we can never say that we're a fluke creation meaning

[35:22]we came accidental we can never say that the purpose of this

[35:26]life is simply to live and to die and become nothing that's

[35:29]absurd and the only rational answer we can give is that we

[35:38]have a greater purpose to eternity if we remove the eternal argument

[35:43]the infinite argument into this equation then our existence on this earth

[35:49]becomes absurdly useless and good and evil has no connotation thereafter that

[35:55]means if you're machiavellian and you say that i'm going to steal

[35:59]and cheat so that i can become rich there's nothing wrong with

[36:03]that versus a person who struggles hard in an honest way and

[36:06]makes their wealth both have no difference and we know as rational

[36:12]human beings it's absurd so allah is telling us in the quran

[36:16]i have made obligatory on myself mercy and i think mercy of

[36:22]all the asmal hosna all the divine qualities of god the best

[36:26]that we can understand allah is through this word which is when

[36:32]allah says you know even in the quran when we recite every

[36:36]surah besides one we start with in the name of god the

[36:39]beneficent to the merciful rahman r-rahim the root is raham rahma it

[36:45]has many meanings as you know the rahmah the cradling the protection

[36:50]the guidance the love when we say a person is merciful all

[36:55]the good qualities fall into the equation and it's very hard to

[37:01]imagine a negative connotation with the term mercy my introduction tonight is

[37:08]you know i'm presenting for three nights it's a blessing i'd like

[37:14]to really discuss because i see the outcome and the effects and

[37:19]we need to talk about this the geopolitics of the world the

[37:25]apathy the lack of faith in allah the lack of desire to

[37:29]want to do the duties allah has placed upon us the easiness

[37:36]with which we take life where we take shortcuts we complain quickly

[37:41]when problems come in our ways we cause so much chaos within

[37:48]our lives our disbelief in god or our two what we call

[37:51]parallel lives you know the dichotomy where we are religious on one

[37:56]side but we have a dark side on the other the non

[38:00]what we call um we're not consistent in what we say in

[38:04]what we do and it creates this compounded chaos in society and

[38:10]our next generations pick up from that and it leaves this momentum

[38:15]going in the wrong direction which ultimately causes our own destruction unless

[38:20]we understand what are we on this earth for what's our objective

[38:25]and why has allah instituted all these rules and regulations though they're

[38:30]not much and why has he even created us why does he

[38:36]why does he even bother and is my prayer really important when

[38:41]i fast my modesty my hijab is it really important or is

[38:47]this all going to vanish if we don't come to terms with

[38:52]these philosophies and ideologies and realities what happens is the spirit within

[38:56]ourselves slows down it's like the ambition the goal slows down it's

[39:02]like a business if you don't see your goal passionately you slow

[39:05]down in your business and as soon as there's a small problem

[39:08]generally we quit this is what life is about and we need

[39:12]to talk about that so allah has blessed us to create us

[39:18]on this earth we need to talk about this blessing versus not

[39:23]existing we need to talk about eschatology which is the day of

[39:28]judgment we need to talk about paradise in hell who goes to

[39:31]paradise we are very good within religion to damn everybody to hell

[39:34]did you notice that we love to send everybody else to hell

[39:40]except ourselves right you go to christians you hear this you go

[39:45]to muslims you hear this you go to jews you hear this

[39:47]we're very judgmental and oh my god you do a little wrong

[39:54]thing you're going to hell as children why do they pray the

[39:56]ones who do they're afraid of going to hell because their parents

[39:59]told them if you don't pray allah you go into jahannam the

[40:03]child is terrified he better wake up because this whipping god you

[40:08]know the ever desirous god who wants to throw us all and

[40:13]burn us in hell eternally is ever so willing to do so

[40:18]should we fail even for a little bit of one of his

[40:23]commandments right is this real is this really how allah system works

[40:26]or is it something else have we hijacked islam have we hijacked

[40:31]religion have we caused something wrong within the system that has put

[40:35]gunk into the engine of god's mercy when allah says you know

[40:49]allah completes and perfects what is this complete and perfect system that

[40:54]should bring harmony upon us should bring goodness towards us not the

[40:58]isis kind that causes people to go into chaos beheadings killings it's

[41:07]repulsive by any standard even if you didn't believe in god it's

[41:10]repulsive even if you believe in if you believe in allah certainly

[41:15]it's repulsive yet people in the name of god misquoting the scriptures

[41:19]of allah to suit their own whims are causing so much harm

[41:25]and discord in the world and you know we shrug our shoulders

[41:30]in comfort zones like the united states which is shielded go to

[41:33]yemen go to gaza go to syria my god see what's happening

[41:39]go to lebanon the kind of chaos more so in syria in

[41:42]yemen today afghanistan where you don't know if you will live for

[41:47]the day if you don't know you'll come back with all your

[41:49]limbs intact for the day you don't know if your children will

[41:53]be alive for the day imagine waking up in the morning thinking

[41:55]am i going to be alive today we look at the newspaper

[41:58]and ask about the weather how's the weather today right who's causing

[42:04]this why is it happening we need to in a cursory way

[42:09]discuss this and fundamentally of course we are commemorating as you know

[42:13]the greatest moral event where good met evil in the highest platform

[42:20]of the history of the human race to establish clarity for the

[42:26]human being's purpose on what they need to do to live in

[42:30]this world when imam was saying are they men humans out there

[42:39]to help me he wasn't asking them to join his army he

[42:41]was asking us to be moral and upright to not allow evil

[42:46]to be pervasive the way that many umayya wanted it to be

[42:50]that's what he was asking and we say we wish we were

[42:56]with you the imam says you are be upright be moral promote

[43:01]good we need to talk about it why should i be moral

[43:05]how about if i'm not bad and i'm not really good what

[43:09]if i'm neutral is that good enough can i just live surviving

[43:14]in this rough sea as long as i'm bopping on a plank

[43:18]until i find land which is death right is that good enough

[43:25]will god reward me then we need to talk about this so

[43:28]my respective sisters and brothers in islam i'm honored to be in

[43:33]this program especially in the commemoration of the greatest event in history

[43:36]sadly though look outside millions and billions of people don't know this

[43:42]alhamdulillah there is a sector of the muslim ummah that knows this

[43:45]look at karbala today millions of people are flocking around the grave

[43:50]sites of imam hussein al-assam and his family and abbas alayhi but

[44:00]often i think about it masha'allah it's great millions are going what

[44:05]are we accomplishing i'm not saying it's a bad thing ziyarah of

[44:09]al-bait is mustahab highly recommended it's very good for the spirit and

[44:14]in it's it's in itself an elixir as we say it's a

[44:19]bomb that kind of soothes us within our hearts and gives us

[44:22]direction to understand so visiting these graves highly recommended but so let's

[44:27]say 10 20 million people are going to give respect to imam

[44:32]hussain what's the result of this great tragedy of karbala holistically on

[44:38]a global scale in the sense of what you and i are

[44:42]doing to commemorate this event is it a cycle you know karl

[44:46]marx says that religion is the opium of the masses he's not

[44:52]entirely wrong when he says that it is partially opium of the

[44:59]masses and are we going to keep feeding ourselves this opium and

[45:02]get high and feel good that on judgement day god will take

[45:05]me into paradise because i was cyclically high in his way unfortunately

[45:09]a lot of our kids today are getting high in the wrong

[45:14]ways and it's becoming very prevalent with drug abuse marital abuse you

[45:18]know divorces are taking place as quickly as they are put together

[45:23]you know in terms of marriages what's happening with our society why

[45:28]is this coming about and i think it's time to discuss it

[45:31]not that it's not being discussed but we need to reflect upon

[45:35]it you know allah they sit reflecting standing sitting lying on their

[45:54]sides about the purpose of this creation when the human being stops

[45:58]thinking this way then all these problems become very common drug abuse

[46:03]becomes common sexual abuse becomes common marital abuse becomes common domestic abuse

[46:08]becomes common lack of faith becomes common lack of belief in god

[46:13]becomes common and living a parallel lifestyle of two faces becomes very

[46:19]common because on one side we have to fulfill our social obligations

[46:24]whereas the other side is our real obligation but allah sees you

[46:30]see so i'm honored to be here my respective sisters and brothers

[46:41]as you know the commemoration of ashura commemoration that follows after the

[46:46]40 nights how important is this and i have a philosophy i'd

[46:51]like to share inshaallah but i think fundamentally let's understand the purpose

[46:56]of why we were created and see why did imamu alayhi salam

[47:01]go to karbala in my opinion from a historical perspective the moment

[47:06]of the massacre of our blessed imam and his family and his

[47:09]companions the few was a momentous event that set the stage forever

[47:14]for humanity never to have confusion as to where huck and battle

[47:20]is where truth and falsehood lies first and foremost but i believe

[47:24]that the greatest moment in the revolution of imam hussain alaihi salam

[47:32]was when imam zain al-abidin was on the pulpit reciting the famous

[47:37]khutbah in the palace of yazid and i will discuss it in

[47:44]the other nights what this was what this luck speech was it

[47:49]was a wonderful presentation not very long it was actually rather short

[47:53]but very deep but we need to dissect it why is the

[47:56]imam the fourth imam speaking this way why is he using these

[48:00]connotations what does he mean in this momentous moment where yazid is

[48:07]in the audience the people of syria at that time who were

[48:10]confused by the mayhem empire about what real islam was to them

[48:16]and what the islam that allah sent was that the imam now

[48:19]is talking in the belly of the beast and i think that

[48:24]moment was momentous in history we need to understand it and take

[48:30]an example from that as to what you and i need to

[48:32]do in the modern era salah first let's discuss the verse that

[48:44]i started in chicago verse number singular so allah is talking a

[48:59]universal message addressing the human being is o man kind in formula

[49:10]struggle upon struggle till you meet your lord this verse is profound

[49:16]to me there are many like this in fact surat yunus from

[49:21]the seventh chapter which i'll discuss later to the 10th chapter allah

[49:26]discusses this principle once again in the quran and the reason i

[49:29]love the quran as the scripture as a revelation from allah among

[49:36]all these revelations that are prevalent in the world today that claim

[49:38]to be revelations is that it's consistent in its moral message it's

[49:44]consistent in the purpose of why we were created and it's consistent

[49:49]in its instructions of how we human beings should function optimally in

[49:55]this world unfortunately when we have a myopic vision and we just

[49:58]know a few verses and we do not look at the broad

[50:02]picture of the quran we become extremely dangerous in what we interpret

[50:08]in the quran which is why we find the prevalence of people

[50:11]of religion especially in islam who have a very narrow vision about

[50:16]the religion of allah let me give you a broad expression you

[50:22]will see the rahmah i told you allah is merciful he created

[50:27]us because of his mercy and therefore we are being tested we

[50:30]say was it any creators to test us now that's the secondary

[50:36]reason the primary is rahma and because we exist the only way

[50:38]possible for us to improve our standards is to be tested without

[50:44]tests we cannot improve that's why allah says the test you see

[50:53]we created man from a clot to test this being we gave

[51:03]it the ability to hear and to see the sensors are essential

[51:09]to be tested but the purpose of my existence is mercy and

[51:13]we are all under test there is no human being on earth

[51:16]that is not on the trial but i as a muslim say

[51:19]to myself okay so i have my fundamental religion which is the

[51:25]usual the roots of my religion is tauheed oneness of god which

[51:28]is the axis of all and then of course i believe in

[51:32]the messengership and the protectorship which is nubuwa and imam and then

[51:36]i know that i'm going to meet my lord and before i

[51:40]do and when i do i'm going to be tested and questioned

[51:43]for my deeds on this world therefore are part of my existence

[51:48]this is fundamental principle and then when we take the pragmatics the

[51:51]day-to-day the issues as we say the furu i know i have

[51:56]to say my prayers i have to fast do hajj maintain you

[52:04]know chastity etc etc all my pragmatic rules so we know this

[52:07]is the whole construction of the religion called al-islam but if you

[52:12]look at the human population today there's seven and a half billion

[52:14]people on earth that's an astronomical number relative to just two decades

[52:20]three decades ago we were in the four to five billion today

[52:22]we are seven and a half billion and we're going to double

[52:27]exponentially as we move forward but let's look at where we stand

[52:31]today 7.5 billion roughly 2 billion people on earth are muslims don't

[52:35]accept this number 1.2 billion 1 billion muslim is rubbish please don't
